Oh, hello. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
Salty and I have just got back from a lovely walk, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
and I've just washed her very muddy paws. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
HE LAUGHS There we are. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:25
You know, Salty likes to watch her boat | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
bobbing around on the water. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Look at that. Hey-hey! | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
There you are, girl. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
Do you know, this boat once belonged | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
to Little Sailor Sue? | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
Yeah. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42 | |
Here, let me tell you the story. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
It all happened when I was a boy, | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
in a twinkly time long, long ago. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
I used to run down to the beach as often as I could, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:58
meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:03
And one day, we were waiting for the tide to go out | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
so we could play by the rockpools. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
Now, to pass the time, Little Sailor Sue was digging | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
a big hole in the sand to sail her new toy boat. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:23
She was digging, filling up her bucket from the sea, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:27
and bringing it back to pour it in. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
Blip! Blop! Blip! Blop! | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
But as fast as Sue could put the water in, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
it just disappeared into the sand. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
Oh, no! The water's going away. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
But she wasn't for giving up. Oh, no. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
I'm going to stay here. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
So, Ernie and I decided to head to the rockpools. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
And when we arrived, we gazed deep down | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
into the glittery waters. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
A magical world appeared before our eyes. | 0:02:56 | 0:03:00
This morning, it was peaceful | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
and quiet in the rockpool. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
Reginald the Great Wise Limpet, sat on his rock | 0:03:12 | 0:03:17
and gazed at the boats far out to sea. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
Sally the Starfish and Andrew the Anemone | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
bobbed up to the surface to visit Reginald. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
"I'd be sad if I was sat on a rock all day | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
"with nothing to do," said Sally. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
Now, Reginald actually rather enjoyed his life on the rock. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:38
He sat there because that's what limpets do, | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
they stick themselves to rocks when the tide goes out. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:46
And what Reginald liked was the peace and quiet, | 0:03:46 | 0:03:49
listening to the sounds of the seaside. | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
In fact, he was a very happy limpet - | 0:03:52 | 0:03:56
not sad at all. | 0:03:56 | 0:03:58
"We need to do something to cheer Reginald up," said Sally. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:02
Andrew thought... | 0:04:02 | 0:04:04
"I know, Reginald likes boats, | 0:04:04 | 0:04:07
"so let's have a boat race for him." | 0:04:07 | 0:04:10
"Oh, yes," said Sally. "He'd love that." | 0:04:10 | 0:04:14
Reginald overheard them. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
"Actually," he said, | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
"I'm quite happy just sitting here | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
"in the peace and quiet." | 0:04:23 | 0:04:26
But Sally and Andrew, they were already gone. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:29
They'd scuttled across the rocks to see what the tide had washed up | 0:04:29 | 0:04:33
on the shore. And they found some old scraps of cloth, | 0:04:33 | 0:04:37
some sticks, and driftwood. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:39
"We can build boats with this!" Sally said. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:43
"How?" asked Andrew. | 0:04:43 | 0:04:45
"Well, driftwood floats, so that can be the boat. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:49
"And the cloth can be the sails." | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
So, the two friends set to work... | 0:04:52 | 0:04:54
Bash! Bash! Bash! Bash! Bang! Bang! Bang! | 0:04:54 | 0:04:57
Reginald tried to close his eyes, but his lovely, | 0:04:57 | 0:05:01
peaceful rockpool wasn't very peaceful | 0:05:01 | 0:05:04
or quiet any more. | 0:05:04 | 0:05:07
Bash! Bash! Boom! Bang! Bing! Bom! Bom! | 0:05:07 | 0:05:11
-Woof! -Yeah, what a lot of noise, wasn't it, Salty? | 0:05:11 | 0:05:15
Anyway, finally, after a lot of hard work, | 0:05:16 | 0:05:19
the two little friends finished their boats. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:23
"Let's race!" cried Andrew. | 0:05:23 | 0:05:25
"You can start the race, Reginald!" shouted Sally. | 0:05:25 | 0:05:29
"First one to that piece of seaweed on the other side | 0:05:29 | 0:05:33
"of the rockpool wins!" shouted Andrew. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:35
"Go," sighed Reginald. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:38
But nothing happened. | 0:05:39 | 0:05:41
What do you think was wrong, Salty? Hmm? | 0:05:41 | 0:05:45
That's right, girl, yes - there wasn't any wind to fill the sails. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:49
Without wind, the little boats weren't going anywhere. | 0:05:49 | 0:05:54
"Don't worry," said Sally. "I'll get Belinda, she can help." | 0:05:54 | 0:05:58
Sally shouted out as loud as she could, | 0:05:58 | 0:06:01
"BELINDA!" | 0:06:01 | 0:06:04
Belinda the Blenny popped her head out of the water. | 0:06:04 | 0:06:08
"Did you want me?" | 0:06:08 | 0:06:09
Sally explained that they were cheering up Reginald | 0:06:09 | 0:06:12
by racing boats, but there wasn't any wind for the sails. | 0:06:12 | 0:06:16
"Oh, no problem, I'll be the wind," laughed Belinda, | 0:06:16 | 0:06:19
and she took a deep breath. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:22
And then she blew as hard as she could at the little boats. | 0:06:22 | 0:06:26
SHE BLOWS | 0:06:26 | 0:06:28
The sails fluttered briefly, but the little boats didn't move. | 0:06:30 | 0:06:34
"Bother!" said Andrew. "Belinda's not got enough puff." | 0:06:34 | 0:06:39
And with a splash, he dived into the water | 0:06:39 | 0:06:41
in search of more rockpoolers. | 0:06:41 | 0:06:44
Sally looked over at Reginald. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:47
"Not long now," she shouted. | 0:06:47 | 0:06:50
"You'll be fun having soon." | 0:06:50 | 0:06:53
"Marvellous," said Reginald, patiently. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:57
Just then Andrew popped up | 0:06:57 | 0:06:59
with Buster the Crab, Sidney the Snail and Bertrum the Butterfish. | 0:06:59 | 0:07:03
"I've brought some friends to blow our boats | 0:07:03 | 0:07:06
"across the rockpool," he smiled. | 0:07:06 | 0:07:08
They all took a deep, deep breath, | 0:07:08 | 0:07:12
and they blew as hard as they could... | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
HE BLOWS | 0:07:16 | 0:07:18
..and the sails of the little boats filled up, | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
and the boats started to move. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:24
But then, they stopped again. | 0:07:24 | 0:07:27
Sally couldn't understand. | 0:07:27 | 0:07:29
"What's wrong?" she said to Andrew. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:31
"I don't know," said Andrew. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:34
"You still don't have enough puff | 0:07:34 | 0:07:37
"to make the boats move," panted Bertram. | 0:07:37 | 0:07:41
"So, we need the biggest, puffiest friend that we know," said Andrew. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:46
"Bluey the whale! | 0:07:46 | 0:07:48
"BLUEY!" he shouted. | 0:07:48 | 0:07:52
"Can I help?" he shouted back. | 0:07:52 | 0:07:55
"YES!" shouted Andrew. | 0:07:55 | 0:07:58
It really was a very shouty day. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
"Can you blow our boats across the rockpool? | 0:08:01 | 0:08:05
"We're cheering Reginald up!" | 0:08:05 | 0:08:08
There was an enormous puff of wind. | 0:08:08 | 0:08:12
Bluey had started to blow. | 0:08:12 | 0:08:16
Now, whales are very, very big, | 0:08:16 | 0:08:20
and their puffs are | 0:08:20 | 0:08:23
very, very puffy indeed. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
Suddenly, the wind from Bluey's blowing | 0:08:26 | 0:08:29
filled the sails of the little boats, and they shot off. | 0:08:29 | 0:08:33
"Woohoo!" shouted Andrew and Sally. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:35
"Isn't this fun, Reginald?" | 0:08:35 | 0:08:38
"Weeee!" said Andrew. | 0:08:38 | 0:08:40
"Uh-oh," thought Sally | 0:08:40 | 0:08:43
as they went flying up | 0:08:43 | 0:08:44
and splashed and landed right beside Reginald. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:49
Andrew and Sally were laughing, | 0:08:49 | 0:08:51
and they made Reginald laugh, too. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:54
REGINALD LAUGHS | 0:08:54 | 0:08:57
Reginald laughed the biggest, boomiest laugh that Andrew and Sally | 0:09:00 | 0:09:05
had ever heard. "Ho-ho-ho, ho-ho-ho!" | 0:09:05 | 0:09:08
Then, it was all very peaceful | 0:09:08 | 0:09:11
and quiet in the rockpool again. | 0:09:11 | 0:09:14
There was a long pause and Reginald, | 0:09:14 | 0:09:18
he blinked for a moment and then... | 0:09:18 | 0:09:20
Then he smiled. A really, really big smile. | 0:09:20 | 0:09:25
"I have had a marvellous day | 0:09:26 | 0:09:30
"just watching the two of you having fun. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:33
"Why don't you ask Bluey to blow again? | 0:09:33 | 0:09:36
"Only, this time, maybe | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
"not quite as hard," he chuckled. | 0:09:39 | 0:09:42
So, that's exactly what Bluey did. | 0:09:44 | 0:09:47
The little boats raced on the rockpool | 0:09:47 | 0:09:50
for the rest of the day, | 0:09:50 | 0:09:52
and each of the rockpoolers took a turn. | 0:09:52 | 0:09:55
Oh! It was brilliant fun. | 0:09:55 | 0:09:58
And Reginald sat peacefully and quietly on his rock | 0:09:58 | 0:10:02
and watched the boats, | 0:10:02 | 0:10:05
a very happy old limpet. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:07
Ernie and I had the same idea at the same time. | 0:10:08 | 0:10:12
"Sue!" | 0:10:12 | 0:10:13
We called Sue, and she ran over to join us to play. | 0:10:13 | 0:10:16
-"Why don't you sail your boat in the rockpool?" -"Good idea." | 0:10:16 | 0:10:20
-Little Sailor Sue's boat set sail... -All aboard! | 0:10:20 | 0:10:23
..bobbing on the water. | 0:10:23 | 0:10:25
It was perfect, and we played and played | 0:10:25 | 0:10:28
until the tide came in and covered the rockpool | 0:10:28 | 0:10:32
like a great, seaweedy blanket. | 0:10:32 | 0:10:34
Here, Salty, | 0:10:39 | 0:10:40
I know somebody else who likes to play with toy boats. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:45
Right. I'm on my way, here. | 0:10:45 | 0:10:49
HE HUMS | 0:10:49 | 0:10:51
ERNIE LAUGHS | 0:10:51 | 0:10:53
I'm on my way! Ha-ha! | 0:10:53 | 0:10:57
And why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time? | 0:10:57 | 0:11:01
Goodbye. Come on, girl. | 0:11:01 | 0:11:03
DOG BARKS Let's go and see Ernie. Come on! | 0:11:03 | 0:11:06 |
