Oh! Oh, hello. Salty and I are just having a bit of a dance. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:03
Here's your treat. Good girl! | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
She loves to dance, you know, Salty does. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:09
I think it's time for a sit-down now. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
Do you know, sometimes it feels like Salty is just my shadow - | 0:01:12 | 0:01:16
whatever I do, she likes to do it too. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
When I have a little dance, she wants to join in | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
and when I sit down and get comfy, she gets comfy too. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
SALTY WHINES What? | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
Oh, you'd like a story now, would you? All right. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:32
Well, Salty, there was a time, quite a long while ago now, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:36
when I danced with my shadow on the beach. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
It all happened when I was a boy... | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
in a twinkly time, long, long ago. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
I used to run down to play on the beach as often as I could, | 0:01:48 | 0:01:53
meeting up with my best friend, Little Sailor Sue. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
One day, we arrived at the beach later than usual | 0:01:57 | 0:02:01
and the sun was quite low in the sky | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
and it made our shadows look very long, like the shadows of giants. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:09
When we waved our arms, our giant shadows did too. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:14
And when we held hands, our giant shadows held hands. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:19
We took giant steps with our giant shadows | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
and it seemed as though they were leading us | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
along the beach, until we came to the rockpools. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
Well, when we reached the rockpools, we were keen to see | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
what wonderful mysteries they held, so we knelt down | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
and peered into them. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
And as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters... | 0:02:41 | 0:02:45
a magical world appeared before our eyes. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:49
On this particular day in the rockpool, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
Sheena the Shrimp was bursting with energy. | 0:02:56 | 0:03:00
"It's a lovely day for dancing," she chortled. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
So she bobbed over to her musical rock and pressed its nose. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:09
PARP! | 0:03:09 | 0:03:10 | |
Some very jaunty music came blaring out of the shell speakers | 0:03:10 | 0:03:15
and Sheena started to dance. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
Well, when a shrimp dances, it really is a sight to see | 0:03:19 | 0:03:24
because everything wiggles, from its tail to its antenna, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
with its legs and its swimmerets in between. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
All the other rockpoolers came to watch Sheena dancing | 0:03:31 | 0:03:35
and to listen to the jaunty music. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:38
"Come on, everyone. Don't stand around. Join in," Sheena cried. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:42
When they saw Sheena having so much fun, | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
the other rockpoolers really wanted to dance too, | 0:03:45 | 0:03:49
but just as they were about to get started, the music stopped. | 0:03:49 | 0:03:53
"Oh, no," said Sheena, disappointed. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:56
"My musical rock must be broken." | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
SALTY YIPS Yes, I know, Salty, | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
it was very sad indeed, | 0:04:02 | 0:04:03
but within minutes, the music started again. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:07
"It's working again now," said Sheena, "Let's get dancing." | 0:04:07 | 0:04:11
She'd just started to wiggle her antenna and flick her tail | 0:04:11 | 0:04:16
when the music stopped again. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
SALTY WHINES You see, Salty, | 0:04:18 | 0:04:20
musical rocks don't always work the way they are supposed to, do they? | 0:04:20 | 0:04:25
SALTY BARKS No, they don't, no. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
"What's wrong with my musical rock?" Sheena wondered. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:31
"I think it wants to play musical statues," said Sally the Starfish. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:36
"How do you play musical statues?" asked Sheena, | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
her eyes growing large with excitement. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
"Well," said Sally, "When the music plays, we all dance, | 0:04:42 | 0:04:46
"then when the music stops, we all have to stay as still as statues." | 0:04:46 | 0:04:51
"And the first one that moves is out," added Buster the Crab. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:56
Sheena the Shrimp loved this idea, | 0:04:56 | 0:04:58
so as soon as the musical rock started playing again, | 0:04:58 | 0:05:02
all the rockpoolers began to dance | 0:05:02 | 0:05:04
and they each danced in a different way. | 0:05:04 | 0:05:07
Sally the Starfish liked to twirly whirl. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:10
She looked like a super swirly firework. | 0:05:11 | 0:05:15
Buster the Crab just stepped from side to side, snapping his claws. | 0:05:15 | 0:05:21
He took his dancing very seriously. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:25
Andrew the Anemone wriggled his tentacles... | 0:05:25 | 0:05:28
..and looked rather like a wild wave, | 0:05:30 | 0:05:33
while Sidney the Snail had a rather nifty way of spinning his shell. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:39
Belinda the Blenny did the shakety shake. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:45
And Bertrum the Butterfish | 0:05:47 | 0:05:49
whizzed about with his hat and his bowtie, spinning. | 0:05:49 | 0:05:53
Suddenly, the music stopped. | 0:05:55 | 0:05:57
"Everybody stand still as statues," cried Sally, | 0:05:58 | 0:06:02
so they did - | 0:06:02 | 0:06:04
all except Andrew, who couldn't stop his tentacles wriggling in time. | 0:06:04 | 0:06:09
"A-ha! I'm out!" he called. "I think I'll have a rest now." | 0:06:09 | 0:06:13
So he disappeared. | 0:06:13 | 0:06:16
The rock blared out music again | 0:06:16 | 0:06:19
and the rest of the rockpoolers burst back into life. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:23
"This is very happy music," chortled Sheena. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:27
"I like your shakety shake, Belinda." | 0:06:27 | 0:06:30
Well, Belinda shakety shook even more. | 0:06:30 | 0:06:34
Just then, the music stopped again. | 0:06:34 | 0:06:37
All the rockpoolers froze - | 0:06:37 | 0:06:39
all except Belinda, who had become a bit carried away. | 0:06:39 | 0:06:44
"Whoops," said Belinda. "I'm out!" | 0:06:44 | 0:06:47
She felt a little sleepy after all that shakety shaking | 0:06:47 | 0:06:51
so she swam off to the seaweed to have a nap. | 0:06:51 | 0:06:54
The music started again | 0:06:54 | 0:06:56
and the rest of the rockpoolers started dancing again. | 0:06:56 | 0:07:00
"When I was a young crab, I used to go to the disco | 0:07:00 | 0:07:03
"every night of the week," called Buster the Crab over the music. | 0:07:03 | 0:07:08
Just then, the music stopped again and there was silence, | 0:07:08 | 0:07:12
but dear old Buster kept sidestepping and claw snapping... | 0:07:12 | 0:07:17
"Oh, snappers! I'm out," he said when he realised the music stopped. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:24
"Oh, well, my claws were getting a bit tired anyway." | 0:07:24 | 0:07:28
So he disappeared off to rest his claws. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:32
One by one, the rockpoolers got caught moving when the music stopped. | 0:07:32 | 0:07:37
Bertrum kept whizzing around, | 0:07:37 | 0:07:39
but he was really rather pleased to sneak off for a rest. | 0:07:39 | 0:07:43
Sidney couldn't stop spinning his shell in time | 0:07:43 | 0:07:46
and, when it eventually stopped, | 0:07:46 | 0:07:49
he disappeared inside it to get his breath back. | 0:07:49 | 0:07:53
Then Sally kept twirly whirling. | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
And twirly whirling, Salty, is not a thing that statues do, is it? | 0:07:56 | 0:08:01
SALTY BARKS No, it's not. | 0:08:01 | 0:08:04
"That's it," said Sally, "You're the winner, Sheena. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:08
"I need to have a rest now." | 0:08:08 | 0:08:10
And Sally found herself a quiet corner | 0:08:12 | 0:08:15
and wriggled down into the sand. | 0:08:15 | 0:08:18
"I'm the winner," chortled Sheena to herself. | 0:08:18 | 0:08:23
But then she noticed another creature in the rockpool. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:27
It had long antennae, just like Sheena, | 0:08:27 | 0:08:30
a curvy tail, just like Sheena, | 0:08:30 | 0:08:33
lots of legs and swimmerets, just like Sheena. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:37
But it was huge! | 0:08:37 | 0:08:40
"Oh," said Sheena, "Hello." | 0:08:40 | 0:08:44
She waved a leg and the creature waved a leg too. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:48
It was a giant leg. | 0:08:48 | 0:08:49
"I didn't notice you there," Sheena told the creature. | 0:08:49 | 0:08:53
"Those are the longest antennae I have ever seen." | 0:08:53 | 0:08:57
Sheena waved her antennae and the creature waved its antennae too. | 0:08:57 | 0:09:02
Well, just then, the musical rock started playing music again. | 0:09:02 | 0:09:06
"Would you like to play musical statues?" | 0:09:06 | 0:09:09
Sheena shouted above the music. | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
"It's easy! Just do what I do!" | 0:09:11 | 0:09:14
Sheena started dancing... | 0:09:15 | 0:09:17
..and the giant creature started dancing too. | 0:09:19 | 0:09:22
It was a fabulous dancer, all long limbed and leggy and wriggly jiggly. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:29
"Oh," said Sheena, "You are a great dancer." | 0:09:31 | 0:09:35
They danced and they danced and when the music stopped, | 0:09:35 | 0:09:39
Sheena's new friend stopped moving at exactly the same time as she did. | 0:09:39 | 0:09:44
"You're really good at this," Sheena chortled. | 0:09:44 | 0:09:49
When all the rockpoolers awoke sometime later, | 0:09:49 | 0:09:52
they could still hear the musical rock | 0:09:52 | 0:09:55
and Sheena was still playing musical statues. | 0:09:55 | 0:09:59
"Aren't you tired yet, Sheena?" Belinda asked. | 0:09:59 | 0:10:03
"Well, yes, I am," squeaked Sheena, "But I've made a giant friend | 0:10:03 | 0:10:09
"who is just as good at being a statue as I am." | 0:10:09 | 0:10:13
At that moment, the music stopped and Sheena froze | 0:10:13 | 0:10:18
and her giant friend stopped at exactly the same time. | 0:10:18 | 0:10:22
"See what I mean?" said Sheena. | 0:10:22 | 0:10:25
Buster, he chuckled. | 0:10:25 | 0:10:28
"I know why your new friend | 0:10:28 | 0:10:31
"is as good as you at being a statue, Sheena." | 0:10:31 | 0:10:35
"Why?" asked Sheena. | 0:10:35 | 0:10:37
"Because your new friend is your shadow and everything you do, | 0:10:37 | 0:10:42
"your shadow does too," Buster told her. | 0:10:42 | 0:10:45
"And when the sun comes out, it makes shadows, look." | 0:10:45 | 0:10:49
"We've all got our own shadow," said Andrew. | 0:10:49 | 0:10:52
Sheena looked around and it was true, | 0:10:52 | 0:10:55
all the rockpoolers had shadows. | 0:10:55 | 0:10:58
"Well, why don't we all dance with our shadows?" Sheena giggled | 0:10:58 | 0:11:03
as the music started again. | 0:11:03 | 0:11:05
So, the rockpoolers danced for the rest of the day. | 0:11:05 | 0:11:10
And Sheena was really very tired in the end, | 0:11:11 | 0:11:15
tired but happy. | 0:11:15 | 0:11:17
Dancing always makes you happy, doesn't it, Salty? | 0:11:19 | 0:11:23
SALTY BARKS | 0:11:23 | 0:11:24
Well, when Sue and I saw all those shadows | 0:11:24 | 0:11:27
dancing around in the rockpool, we wanted to dance too. | 0:11:27 | 0:11:31
Sue shakety shook her arms and legs | 0:11:31 | 0:11:33
and I held my arms high and snapped my hands as if they were claws | 0:11:33 | 0:11:38
while leaping from side to side | 0:11:38 | 0:11:40
and then I went into a giddy spin and I fell over. Ha-ha! | 0:11:40 | 0:11:45
Yeah, and then we danced all the way back up the beach. | 0:11:45 | 0:11:50
And guess who followed us? Can you guess? | 0:11:50 | 0:11:54
Yes, our shadows! Then we waved goodbye to the sea and the sand | 0:11:54 | 0:11:59
and our shadows waved too... | 0:11:59 | 0:12:01
..before the tide started to come in and cover over the rockpool | 0:12:04 | 0:12:09
like a great seaweedy blanket. | 0:12:09 | 0:12:12
JACK SINGS | 0:12:24 | 0:12:27
Ha-ha! | 0:12:27 | 0:12:29
So, the next time you're out and about on a sunny day, | 0:12:29 | 0:12:33
just remember to dance with your shadow. | 0:12:33 | 0:12:36
We will, won't we, Salty? | 0:12:36 | 0:12:38
So, why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time? | 0:12:38 | 0:12:43
Goodbye. | 0:12:43 | 0:12:44
Come on, girl! That's it! Oh, yes! On we go! | 0:12:44 | 0:12:48 |
