# Those lovely Rockpool Tales. # | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
Oh, hello! | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
I've just been doing the washing-up. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
I got covered in bubbles, I did. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
HE LAUGHS Look at you, Salty! | 0:01:03 | 0:01:07
You've got bubbles all over you as well. Come here. There's a girl. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:12
Yes, look prettier there. Smell a bit nicer as well. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:16
You know what? | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
Looking at all these bubbles reminds me of the day | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
Ernie brought some bubble mixture down to the beach. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:28
This is a very bubbly story, this. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
And it all happened when I was a boy. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:34
In a twinkly time long, long ago. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:38
I used to run down to play on the beach as often as I could, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:45
meeting up with my best friends Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:51
On this particular day, Ernie and I were playing together in the sand | 0:01:51 | 0:01:55
and Sue was on a blanket nearby, having a little nap. | 0:01:55 | 0:02:00
"Oh," said Ernie. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
"I want to show her my bubbles." | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
He had home-made bubble mixture and a home-made bubble stick with him. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:11
"Can I have a go?" I said. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
So, Ernie gave me his bubble stick and I made a few bubbles, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:18
which floated off towards the rock pools. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:22
"Come on, let's wake up Sue and we can all chase bubbles," cried Ernie. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:27
"No," I said. "She's fast asleep." | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
And then... HE CHUCKLES | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
..I blew a really enormous bubble which floated off into the sky. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:37
We chased the big bubble across the sand | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
and then we watched it as it floated away over the rocks, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:44
before landing with a "bop" on a rock pool. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
We gazed deep down into the glittery waters, and there... | 0:02:47 | 0:02:53
A magical world appeared before our eyes. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
One bright morning, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
Bertrum the Butterfish looked out of the home | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
in the rocky ridge where he lived. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
And, to his surprise, he saw bubbles. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
Great, fat, round bubbles were bobbing past in the sunlit water. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:17
Now, you would think that Bertrum | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
would be happy to see bubbles go past. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
But oh, no. No, no, he was not. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
"Bubbles," he sighed. "They just cause mess and confusion." | 0:03:27 | 0:03:32
And he snuck back inside his house. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
Meanwhile, quiet little Belinda the Blenny | 0:03:35 | 0:03:38
was singing to herself in an upturned shell | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
when she spotted bubbles | 0:03:41 | 0:03:44
coming out of a wibbley crack in the rocks nearby. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:48
She thought they were the most magical things ever. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:52
She loved their fragile shape and the rainbow she could see inside them. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:56
She flitted in and out of them, careful not to touch them, | 0:03:56 | 0:04:01
as she didn't want to burst them. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
She was soon joined by Sally the Starfish | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
and Andrew the Anemone, who both loved bubbles, too. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:10
HE CHUCKLES | 0:04:10 | 0:04:11
They chased each other in and out | 0:04:11 | 0:04:13
of the bubbles coming out of the wibbley crack. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
"Wheeeee!" | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
But just as the fun was really starting, there was a... | 0:04:18 | 0:04:23
tuh! | 0:04:23 | 0:04:24 | |
And one of the bubbles burst. | 0:04:24 | 0:04:27
Tuh! Bop. Another bubble burst. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:30
Bop! Another one. And bop, bop, bop, bop... Another one and another one. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
Bop, bop... And soon, all the bubbles had burst. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:39
"What's happened?" said Andrew. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
And then...they saw Bertrum. | 0:04:43 | 0:04:46
He had a piece of straw resting on a rock | 0:04:46 | 0:04:50
and he was blowing teeny-tiny pebbles through it to burst the bubbles. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:56
"Good, that's the last of them," he said. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:59
He then stuffed some seaweed in the wibbley crack | 0:04:59 | 0:05:02
to stop any more bubbles from coming out. | 0:05:02 | 0:05:05
"Now, perhaps, we can get back to normal. | 0:05:05 | 0:05:07
"Look at all the sand you've managed to whirl around chasing bubbles. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:12
"What a mess." | 0:05:12 | 0:05:13
Sally was very surprised. "Don't you like bubbles?" she asked. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:17
"No," said Bertrum firmly. | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19
"Every so often, out there in the big, wide sea, | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
"a whale called Bluey blows bubbles. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:25
"And sometimes, those bubbles whoosh and wiggle | 0:05:25 | 0:05:29
"through cracks and tunnels in the rocks. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
"They bubble up into our rock pool through that wibbley crack. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:37
"And they discombobulate everything." | 0:05:37 | 0:05:40
"Discombob...? | 0:05:41 | 0:05:43
"What?" said Andrew. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:45
"They make a big mess," said Bertrum. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:48
"But bubbles are beautiful," cried Sally. | 0:05:48 | 0:05:52
"Not to me," said Bertrum, | 0:05:52 | 0:05:54
and he hurried off to do some more of his chores. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:58
HE SIGHS | 0:05:58 | 0:05:59
Sally was really, really sad. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:03
"I feel sorry for Bertrum," she said. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:06
"I wish he could love bubbles the way we do." | 0:06:06 | 0:06:10
Andrew thought about this. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:13
And then he had a really good idea. | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
SALTY BARKS | 0:06:15 | 0:06:17
Yes, almost as good as one of your ideas, Salty, yes. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:20
"Let's make the biggest, bestest, bubbliest bubble ever. | 0:06:20 | 0:06:25
"Then we could show Bertrum how wonderful bubbles are." | 0:06:25 | 0:06:29
Well, Belinda wasn't sure, but Sally could not contain her excitement. | 0:06:29 | 0:06:34
"What do we do?" she asked. | 0:06:34 | 0:06:36
"I'll go up to the edge of the rock pool | 0:06:36 | 0:06:38
"and ask Reginald how we can get a message to Bluey the Whale. | 0:06:38 | 0:06:42
"You take that seaweed out of the wibbley crack." | 0:06:42 | 0:06:46
So, Belinda and Sally set to work | 0:06:46 | 0:06:48
and Andrew floated to the top of the rock pool. | 0:06:48 | 0:06:52
He popped his head above the surface, | 0:06:52 | 0:06:54
right next to Reginald the Great Wise Limpet. | 0:06:54 | 0:06:58
"O Great Wise Limpet," said Andrew. | 0:06:58 | 0:07:02
"How can I speak to Bluey the Whale?" | 0:07:02 | 0:07:05
Reginald rolled one of his big eyes and said slowly... | 0:07:07 | 0:07:12
"There are two ways. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
"You could make an enormous speaking tube out of hollow branches | 0:07:16 | 0:07:21
"held together with pieces of rope, string, old fishing nets | 0:07:21 | 0:07:26
"and pieces of driftwood." | 0:07:26 | 0:07:29
Andrew thought that this sounded a little complicated. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:33
"What's the other way?" he asked politely. | 0:07:33 | 0:07:36
"You shout," said Reginald. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:39
So, that's what Andrew did. He shouted. | 0:07:39 | 0:07:43
"Bluey! Bluey! | 0:07:43 | 0:07:47
"Blow us the biggest bubble you possibly can." | 0:07:47 | 0:07:51
HE PUFFS | 0:07:51 | 0:07:53
And far, far out in the big, wide sea, | 0:07:53 | 0:07:58
Bluey heard Andrew. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
"Coming right up," he laughed. | 0:08:01 | 0:08:04
And with a great, enormous puff, he blew. | 0:08:05 | 0:08:11
And Bluey's puff whizzed through the twisting tunnels | 0:08:11 | 0:08:15
and the crannies in the rocks, all the way into the rock pool. | 0:08:15 | 0:08:19
And right next to Sally and Belinda, | 0:08:19 | 0:08:22
a bubble emerged through the wibbley crack. | 0:08:22 | 0:08:26
It got bigger and bigger and bigger. | 0:08:26 | 0:08:29
It was the most beautiful bubble ever. | 0:08:29 | 0:08:33
"It's wonderful," smiled Sally. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:37
The enormous bubble bobbed and floated away towards Bertrum's home. | 0:08:37 | 0:08:43
Mm. Outside, Bertrum was sweeping up. Again. | 0:08:43 | 0:08:48
"That's a good job well done," he said. | 0:08:48 | 0:08:52
Mm, and just as he was saying it, the enormous bubble appeared. | 0:08:52 | 0:08:59
Bertrum stared at the bubble with wider and wider eyes. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:06
He stopped sweeping. | 0:09:06 | 0:09:08
He stopped everything. | 0:09:08 | 0:09:11
Bertrum then did an unexpected thing. | 0:09:11 | 0:09:15
He smiled. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:19
He looked up at the smooth rainbow surface of the bubble and... | 0:09:19 | 0:09:25
he smiled. | 0:09:25 | 0:09:27
"I have to say... | 0:09:27 | 0:09:30
"that is really a very beautiful bubble. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:34
"I can see myself in it." | 0:09:34 | 0:09:37
And sure enough, there was Bertrum's face | 0:09:37 | 0:09:40
stretched on the surface of the bubble like a strange mirror. | 0:09:40 | 0:09:43
But...as Bertrum happily admired his reflection, | 0:09:43 | 0:09:48
the bubble did an unexpected thing. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:52
It scooped up his hat. | 0:09:52 | 0:09:55
"My hat," squawked Bertrum. | 0:09:55 | 0:09:58
"The bubble's got my hat!" | 0:09:58 | 0:10:00
Andrew knew that Bertrum really loved that hat, so he said, reluctantly, | 0:10:00 | 0:10:06
"Um... | 0:10:06 | 0:10:08
"You'd better use your straw to pop it." | 0:10:08 | 0:10:11
But Bertrum didn't want to. He thought the bubble was beautiful. | 0:10:11 | 0:10:17
He put his straw down. | 0:10:17 | 0:10:19
"No, let's chase it," he said. | 0:10:19 | 0:10:22
"It'll pop eventually and then I'll get my hat back." | 0:10:22 | 0:10:26
And with a "wheeeeee", | 0:10:26 | 0:10:28
the little rock poolers chased after the enormous bubble | 0:10:28 | 0:10:32
round and round and over and over and up and down. | 0:10:32 | 0:10:35
Everything was discombobulated. | 0:10:35 | 0:10:39
But Bertrum didn't mind. | 0:10:39 | 0:10:41
He was having too much fun. | 0:10:41 | 0:10:43
HE CHUCKLES | 0:10:43 | 0:10:45
And, eventually, the bubble strayed too close to a sharp rock. | 0:10:45 | 0:10:51
And with an enormous pop, | 0:10:51 | 0:10:55
it burst. | 0:10:55 | 0:10:57
Bertrum's hat floated safely down onto his head. | 0:10:57 | 0:11:02
"Well," said Bertrum, "I suppose that's the end of that." | 0:11:03 | 0:11:08
SALTY WHINES | 0:11:08 | 0:11:10
He looked a little disappointed. | 0:11:10 | 0:11:13
Andrew looked at Sally. Sally looked at Belinda. | 0:11:13 | 0:11:16
And Belinda looked at Bertrum. | 0:11:16 | 0:11:19
"We could ask Bluey to blow us another one," said Belinda quietly. | 0:11:19 | 0:11:25
Bertrum looked at them and thought hard. | 0:11:27 | 0:11:30
Then a big smile spread across his face. | 0:11:30 | 0:11:35
"Let's do that. | 0:11:35 | 0:11:37
"I like chasing bubbles!" | 0:11:37 | 0:11:40
So, that's what they did. | 0:11:40 | 0:11:43
Bluey puffed, | 0:11:43 | 0:11:44
bubbles shot out of the wibbley crack, | 0:11:44 | 0:11:47
and the rock poolers chased bubbles for the rest of the day, | 0:11:47 | 0:11:51
until it was time to go to bed. | 0:11:51 | 0:11:53
When Ernie and I looked up from the rock pool, | 0:11:54 | 0:11:57
Ernie said, "I'm going to make an enormous bubble right now." | 0:11:57 | 0:12:02
So he did. | 0:12:02 | 0:12:04
Ernie's enormous bubble drifted high, high into the sky | 0:12:04 | 0:12:08
and then it swooped down across the beach. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:11
Down, down it went, until it landed right on Little Sue | 0:12:11 | 0:12:17
and popped. | 0:12:17 | 0:12:18
She sat up, blinking, looking around. | 0:12:18 | 0:12:22
Ernie and I both burst out laughing. | 0:12:22 | 0:12:25
And together, we raced over to join Sue. | 0:12:25 | 0:12:29
And then we played and played until it was time for us to go home. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:35
And the tide came in | 0:12:35 | 0:12:37
and covered the rock pool like a great seaweedy blanket. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:42
HE CHUCKLES | 0:12:42 | 0:12:44
I told you it was a very bubbly tale, didn't I, Salty? | 0:12:51 | 0:12:55
-Do you want to come and blow some bubbles with me, Salty? -Go on, then. | 0:12:55 | 0:12:59
That's only one, Ern! | 0:12:59 | 0:13:01
That's much better! I'll tell you what. Go on. | 0:13:01 | 0:13:04
I'll watch you from here. Go on, girl. You go with him. | 0:13:04 | 0:13:08
So, why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time? | 0:13:08 | 0:13:12
Goodbye. | 0:13:12 | 0:13:13
Oh, lovely, Ernie. | 0:13:15 | 0:13:17
I think you're getting better. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:19
Super! | 0:13:22 | 0:13:24 |
