Hello, Emily! | 0:01:39 | 0:01:40
Oh, hello, Jack, dear! How are you? | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
Oh, tiptop, tiptop! We're just on our way to the Rainbow. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
To check the nets. What are you up to? | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
-Oh, I'm hoping for a rainbow today too. -Really? | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
The paper said there might be one. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
I'd like to try and get a photograph of it for my granddaughter. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
Of course, you need sunshine and showers for a rainbow. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
Oh, I know. It's a tricky combination. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
But I'm hoping the seagulls can tell me | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
what the weather will be like. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
-Seagulls. -Come on! -Oh, yes. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
Seagulls, seagulls, Salty. Remember that, seagulls. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
The seagulls always predict the weather for me. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
-If a seagull is carrying a flower, you know it's going to shower. -Oh! | 0:02:22 | 0:02:28
Oh! There you go! Showers! | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
Oh, well, I never! | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
-Now, how about some sunshine? -Yeah. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:38
-Anything yet, Em? -Oh! | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
-When seagulls dance for money, the weather might be sunny. -Oh, yeah. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:46
Oh! There! Sunshine as well! | 0:02:46 | 0:02:51
-That's amazing! -Isn't it?! | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
Sunshine and showers! I think we're going to see that rainbow, Jack! | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
-Come on! -She's in a bit of a hurry, isn't she, Salty? Wait for us! | 0:02:57 | 0:03:02
-I'll just wait here for the rainbow. -Yeah. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
Are you sure the seagulls can help you forecast the weather? | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
Yes, every time. Don't you worry about me, Old Jack. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
Oh, all right, then. Well, as I said, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
I better get off and have a look at those nets. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
-Good luck with your rainbow watch. -Thanks! See you later! | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
Oh! | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 | |
Seagulls... | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
There she is - the Rainbow. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
What have you got for us today, my dear? | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
Woo woo! | 0:03:46 | 0:03:48
He-he! | 0:03:48 | 0:03:49
Come on, Salty! Deeree-deeree... | 0:03:49 | 0:03:53
Here we are. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:55
There you go, in your bed. Good girl, sit. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:05
I've got to sort out some of these nets. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:07
And I don't want you distracting me. Oh, look at that. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:11
You know, I really hope that Emily gets to see a rainbow today. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:17
Magical things, rainbows, Salty. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
You know, there's tales of pots of gold to be found at the end of them. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:24
Ha-ha! Wait a minute, didn't we...? | 0:04:24 | 0:04:26
Didn't we go chasing after a pot of gold once, Salty? Yes. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:31
Let me get comfortable, I'll see if I can remember. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:35
Ooh! Oh, yes, Salty. | 0:04:35 | 0:04:37
Yes, yes. Ha-ha! There you are, good girl. Yes. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:41
This one will make your ears stand on end. Ha-ha! | 0:04:41 | 0:04:44
Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes, | 0:04:44 | 0:04:49
waved goodbye to Whitby | 0:04:49 | 0:04:50
and disappeared over the horizon. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:53
There was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. Ha-ha! | 0:04:53 | 0:04:57
"This calls for a singsong!", I cried. | 0:04:57 | 0:05:01
# Just Salty Dog and me | 0:05:01 | 0:05:04
# Upon the rainy sea | 0:05:04 | 0:05:06
# The clouds are grey And the sky is blue | 0:05:06 | 0:05:08
# The sun is out But it's raining too | 0:05:08 | 0:05:11
# And a rainbow is shining It's marvellous timing | 0:05:11 | 0:05:15
# For Salty Dog and me. Whoo! # | 0:05:15 | 0:05:17
Ha-ha-ha! | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19
We were just admiring the rainbow's beautiful colours | 0:05:19 | 0:05:23
when Salty spotted a small dot in the distance. | 0:05:23 | 0:05:27
I grabbed my trusty telescope to take a closer look | 0:05:27 | 0:05:31
and, through the telescope's eye, I saw a small hairy man, | 0:05:31 | 0:05:35
all dressed in green, | 0:05:35 | 0:05:38
who was clinging to a huge leaf, | 0:05:38 | 0:05:40
which seemed to be sinking in the choppy waves. | 0:05:40 | 0:05:44
"It's a leprechaun, Salty!" I cried, | 0:05:44 | 0:05:47
"And he needs our help!" | 0:05:47 | 0:05:49
Just in case you've never met a leprechaun, | 0:05:49 | 0:05:53
it's a small, mischievous, elf-like creature | 0:05:53 | 0:05:56
who is said to come from the Emerald Isle. | 0:05:56 | 0:05:59
"Ahoy, seafarer!" we cried, "Come aboard!" | 0:05:59 | 0:06:03
And the leprechaun scrambled up on deck | 0:06:03 | 0:06:06
just moments before his leaf sank in the waves. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:10
"Oh, thank you! Thank you!" said the leprechaun. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:13
"I was off to find the pot of gold | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
"at the end of that rainbow, you see. Diddily-dee. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:18
"But now, me leaf is sunk and I can't go. Oh, diddily-do!" | 0:06:18 | 0:06:23
"We'll take you to the end of the rainbow to find your gold," | 0:06:23 | 0:06:27
I told the leprechaun, "It'll be an adventure!" | 0:06:27 | 0:06:30
So we set course for the end of the rainbow. | 0:06:30 | 0:06:34
The waves were choppy and the wind blew us along | 0:06:34 | 0:06:37
and the rainbow arched out into the distance. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:41
And then, suddenly, the wind grew wild. Ooh! | 0:06:41 | 0:06:45
It whipped up the waves into huge hills | 0:06:45 | 0:06:47
and it blew our supply of cheese sandwiches | 0:06:47 | 0:06:50
and dog biscuits overboard! | 0:06:50 | 0:06:53
"Oh! I wish this wind would stop!" I shouted. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:57
"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish," | 0:06:57 | 0:07:00
said the leprechaun. | 0:07:00 | 0:07:02
And he did a little dance. | 0:07:02 | 0:07:04
A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:07
And sure enough, the wind stopped and the sea became calm. | 0:07:07 | 0:07:13
"I forgot that leprechauns could grant wishes," I said happily. | 0:07:13 | 0:07:17
"Thank you!" | 0:07:17 | 0:07:18
And on we went, towards the end of the rainbow. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:22
Suddenly, we found ourselves under an inky cloud | 0:07:22 | 0:07:26
and before you could say wrinkly whelks and winkles, | 0:07:26 | 0:07:29
it showered us with cold rain. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:32
"I wish this showery weather would stop," howled Salty. | 0:07:32 | 0:07:36
"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish," he said. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:40
And he did a little dance. | 0:07:40 | 0:07:41
A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:44
And sure enough, the rain stopped. | 0:07:44 | 0:07:47
The sun shone and the sky became totally blue. | 0:07:47 | 0:07:51
"Fantastic!" I cried. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:53
But then, looking into the distance, | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
I noticed the rainbow had disappeared. | 0:07:56 | 0:07:59
"Without the showery weather, we don't have a rainbow," I groaned. | 0:07:59 | 0:08:04
But the leprechaun wasn't listening, he was too busy dancing. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:08
A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety. | 0:08:08 | 0:08:11
I don't mind telling you this clickety-clackety | 0:08:11 | 0:08:14
was giving me a headache! | 0:08:14 | 0:08:16
"Stop!", I cried. | 0:08:16 | 0:08:18
"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish," he said. | 0:08:18 | 0:08:21
A-clickety-clackety. "Stop!" | 0:08:21 | 0:08:23
Phew! My wish had come true. | 0:08:25 | 0:08:27
He had stopped, | 0:08:27 | 0:08:29
but so had everything else, | 0:08:29 | 0:08:31
including the Rainbow's engine. | 0:08:31 | 0:08:34
We were stuck. | 0:08:34 | 0:08:35
Salty thought it would solve a lot of problems if we just wished | 0:08:35 | 0:08:40
to be at the end of the rainbow, | 0:08:40 | 0:08:42
which sounded like an excellent idea. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:44
"It's too late for that now," said the leprechaun. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:47
"I'm too hungry to grant any more wishes today." | 0:08:47 | 0:08:51
Well, we didn't know how we would get to the end of the rainbow. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:57
But, suddenly, ha! | 0:08:57 | 0:08:58
Salty spotted a huge fin, poking up out of the water. Ha-ha! | 0:08:58 | 0:09:03
It belonged to Donnie, our favourite dolphin taxi. | 0:09:03 | 0:09:07
He roared up beside the boat. | 0:09:07 | 0:09:10
"Help!" we cried, | 0:09:10 | 0:09:11
"We're stuck and we need to find the end of the rainbow!" | 0:09:11 | 0:09:15
"Oh, man," said the dolphin, | 0:09:15 | 0:09:17
"Your rainbow is probably gone after the sea of showers. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:21
"Throw a rope around my tail and we'll go find it." | 0:09:21 | 0:09:25
Once we had dolphin power, we were never so fast! | 0:09:25 | 0:09:29
"Watch out!" called Donnie when we reached the sea of showers, | 0:09:29 | 0:09:32
"We get all sorts of unusual showers here." | 0:09:32 | 0:09:36
But it was true, because suddenly, there was a shower of stars | 0:09:36 | 0:09:41
that danced around us like fireworks, | 0:09:41 | 0:09:44
but there was no sign of our rainbow. | 0:09:44 | 0:09:46
Next came a shower of roses! Oh! | 0:09:46 | 0:09:50
Which smelt lovely, | 0:09:50 | 0:09:52
but felt a bit prickly and still there was no sign of our rainbow. | 0:09:52 | 0:09:57
Well, finally, grey clouds gathered across the sky, | 0:09:57 | 0:10:01
bumped into each other and started to shower rain. | 0:10:01 | 0:10:05
Then, the sun shone through the rain and whoo-he-he! | 0:10:05 | 0:10:09
Our rainbow suddenly burst across the sky. | 0:10:09 | 0:10:14
"The rainbow ends just here, under the sea," said Donnie. | 0:10:14 | 0:10:19
"Well, we better take a look," I said. | 0:10:19 | 0:10:21
And before you could say spindly spider crabs, | 0:10:21 | 0:10:25
we were strolling on the seabed. | 0:10:25 | 0:10:28
And there, just in front of us, amongst the thick seaweed, | 0:10:28 | 0:10:33
was the rainbow's end. | 0:10:33 | 0:10:34
And there, behind a rock, was a shiny pot. | 0:10:34 | 0:10:38
"Ooooh! It's me pot of gold!" said the leprechaun | 0:10:38 | 0:10:42
and he lifted the lid. | 0:10:42 | 0:10:44
Well, you've never seen so many dazzly, shimmering discs. | 0:10:44 | 0:10:51
"Gold!" cried the leprechaun. | 0:10:51 | 0:10:53
"Jiggly jubilations!" | 0:10:53 | 0:10:56
And, of course, he danced. A-clickety-clackety... | 0:10:56 | 0:11:00
"These... These are even better than gold coins," I said. | 0:11:00 | 0:11:05
"They're golden chocolate coins." | 0:11:05 | 0:11:09
Well, Salty, she sniffed them excitedly. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:12
"And golden doggie snacks too," she woofed. | 0:11:12 | 0:11:17
The leprechaun stopped dancing. | 0:11:17 | 0:11:20
"Miserly miserations!" he moaned. | 0:11:20 | 0:11:23
"I wanted real gold!" | 0:11:23 | 0:11:26
And just then, we heard a growl. | 0:11:26 | 0:11:29
It was the sound of the leprechaun's tummy rumbling. | 0:11:29 | 0:11:33
"But I am a little bit peckish, to be sure," he chortled. | 0:11:33 | 0:11:38
"Well, why don't you share them?" said Salty, licking her lips. | 0:11:38 | 0:11:42
"That will make everyone happy." | 0:11:42 | 0:11:44
"Oh, that's a brilliant idea, so it is," | 0:11:44 | 0:11:47
said the leprechaun. | 0:11:47 | 0:11:49
So we all had a wonderful feast and you know what, | 0:11:49 | 0:11:54
as the leprechaun was feeling full again, all his magic came back. | 0:11:54 | 0:12:01
I wished for our lovely boat to appear in the sea above us | 0:12:01 | 0:12:05
and, once we were all gathered on board, | 0:12:05 | 0:12:08
we sailed on the Rainbow | 0:12:08 | 0:12:12
all the way back to Staithes and home. | 0:12:12 | 0:12:16
And those chocolates, oh! They were lovely! | 0:12:16 | 0:12:19
You know that story, Salty? Yeah? | 0:12:26 | 0:12:29
All true, of course. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:31
Mind you, my stories always are! Ha-ha! | 0:12:31 | 0:12:34
Come on, girl. | 0:12:34 | 0:12:36
Hello, Emily! Any news with your rainbow spotting? | 0:12:51 | 0:12:55
Nothing all day! | 0:12:55 | 0:12:57
-Oh! -I'm so disappointed. | 0:12:57 | 0:12:59
What am I going to tell my granddaughter? | 0:12:59 | 0:13:02
I promised her a picture of a rainbow over Staithes. | 0:13:02 | 0:13:06
Rainbows can be very fussy things, you know. | 0:13:06 | 0:13:09
Has anybody been looking after you? | 0:13:09 | 0:13:11
-Oh, yes. Shelly's been bringing me cups of tea. -Oh, that's good. | 0:13:11 | 0:13:15
Oh! | 0:13:15 | 0:13:17 | |
Well, Emily, you were right after all! | 0:13:27 | 0:13:31
Ha-ha-ha! | 0:13:31 | 0:13:33
Oh, look at that! | 0:13:33 | 0:13:35
Isn't it magical? | 0:13:35 | 0:13:38
Oh, that's made my day! | 0:13:39 | 0:13:43
Come on, Salty! Let's leave Emily to enjoy her rainbow. Bye-bye! | 0:13:43 | 0:13:48
-Bye, Jack! -Ha-ha-ha! | 0:13:48 | 0:13:50
