Hello, Emily!

0:01:390:01:40

Oh, hello, Jack, dear! How are you?

0:01:400:01:43

Oh, tiptop, tiptop! We're just on our way to the Rainbow.

0:01:430:01:47

To check the nets. What are you up to?

0:01:470:01:49

-Oh, I'm hoping for a rainbow today too.

-Really?

0:01:490:01:53

The paper said there might be one.

0:01:530:01:55

I'd like to try and get a photograph of it for my granddaughter.

0:01:550:01:59

Of course, you need sunshine and showers for a rainbow.

0:01:590:02:02

Oh, I know. It's a tricky combination.

0:02:020:02:05

But I'm hoping the seagulls can tell me

0:02:050:02:08

what the weather will be like.

0:02:080:02:10

-Seagulls.

-Come on!

-Oh, yes.

0:02:100:02:12

Seagulls, seagulls, Salty. Remember that, seagulls.

0:02:120:02:15

The seagulls always predict the weather for me.

0:02:190:02:22

-If a seagull is carrying a flower, you know it's going to shower.

-Oh!

0:02:220:02:28

Oh! There you go! Showers!

0:02:280:02:32

Oh, well, I never!

0:02:320:02:34

-Now, how about some sunshine?

-Yeah.

0:02:340:02:38

-Anything yet, Em?

-Oh!

0:02:390:02:41

-When seagulls dance for money, the weather might be sunny.

-Oh, yeah.

0:02:410:02:46

Oh! There! Sunshine as well!

0:02:460:02:51

-That's amazing!

-Isn't it?!

0:02:510:02:53

Sunshine and showers! I think we're going to see that rainbow, Jack!

0:02:530:02:57

-Come on!

-She's in a bit of a hurry, isn't she, Salty? Wait for us!

0:02:570:03:02

-I'll just wait here for the rainbow.

-Yeah.

0:03:040:03:08

Are you sure the seagulls can help you forecast the weather?

0:03:080:03:11

Yes, every time. Don't you worry about me, Old Jack.

0:03:110:03:15

Oh, all right, then. Well, as I said,

0:03:150:03:17

I better get off and have a look at those nets.

0:03:170:03:20

-Good luck with your rainbow watch.

-Thanks! See you later!

0:03:200:03:24

Oh!

0:03:270:03:29

Seagulls...

0:03:290:03:31

There she is - the Rainbow.

0:03:410:03:43

What have you got for us today, my dear?

0:03:430:03:46

Woo woo!

0:03:460:03:48

He-he!

0:03:480:03:49

Come on, Salty! Deeree-deeree...

0:03:490:03:53

Here we are.

0:03:530:03:55

There you go, in your bed. Good girl, sit.

0:04:020:04:05

I've got to sort out some of these nets.

0:04:050:04:07

And I don't want you distracting me. Oh, look at that.

0:04:070:04:11

You know, I really hope that Emily gets to see a rainbow today.

0:04:110:04:17

Magical things, rainbows, Salty.

0:04:170:04:19

You know, there's tales of pots of gold to be found at the end of them.

0:04:190:04:24

Ha-ha! Wait a minute, didn't we...?

0:04:240:04:26

Didn't we go chasing after a pot of gold once, Salty? Yes.

0:04:260:04:31

Let me get comfortable, I'll see if I can remember.

0:04:310:04:35

Ooh! Oh, yes, Salty.

0:04:350:04:37

Yes, yes. Ha-ha! There you are, good girl. Yes.

0:04:370:04:41

This one will make your ears stand on end. Ha-ha!

0:04:410:04:44

Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:440:04:49

waved goodbye to Whitby

0:04:490:04:50

and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:500:04:53

There was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. Ha-ha!

0:04:530:04:57

"This calls for a singsong!", I cried.

0:04:570:05:01

# Just Salty Dog and me

0:05:010:05:04

# Upon the rainy sea

0:05:040:05:06

# The clouds are grey And the sky is blue

0:05:060:05:08

# The sun is out But it's raining too

0:05:080:05:11

# And a rainbow is shining It's marvellous timing

0:05:110:05:15

# For Salty Dog and me. Whoo! #

0:05:150:05:17

Ha-ha-ha!

0:05:170:05:19

We were just admiring the rainbow's beautiful colours

0:05:190:05:23

when Salty spotted a small dot in the distance.

0:05:230:05:27

I grabbed my trusty telescope to take a closer look

0:05:270:05:31

and, through the telescope's eye, I saw a small hairy man,

0:05:310:05:35

all dressed in green,

0:05:350:05:38

who was clinging to a huge leaf,

0:05:380:05:40

which seemed to be sinking in the choppy waves.

0:05:400:05:44

"It's a leprechaun, Salty!" I cried,

0:05:440:05:47

"And he needs our help!"

0:05:470:05:49

Just in case you've never met a leprechaun,

0:05:490:05:53

it's a small, mischievous, elf-like creature

0:05:530:05:56

who is said to come from the Emerald Isle.

0:05:560:05:59

"Ahoy, seafarer!" we cried, "Come aboard!"

0:05:590:06:03

And the leprechaun scrambled up on deck

0:06:030:06:06

just moments before his leaf sank in the waves.

0:06:060:06:10

"Oh, thank you! Thank you!" said the leprechaun.

0:06:100:06:13

"I was off to find the pot of gold

0:06:130:06:15

"at the end of that rainbow, you see. Diddily-dee.

0:06:150:06:18

"But now, me leaf is sunk and I can't go. Oh, diddily-do!"

0:06:180:06:23

"We'll take you to the end of the rainbow to find your gold,"

0:06:230:06:27

I told the leprechaun, "It'll be an adventure!"

0:06:270:06:30

So we set course for the end of the rainbow.

0:06:300:06:34

The waves were choppy and the wind blew us along

0:06:340:06:37

and the rainbow arched out into the distance.

0:06:370:06:41

And then, suddenly, the wind grew wild. Ooh!

0:06:410:06:45

It whipped up the waves into huge hills

0:06:450:06:47

and it blew our supply of cheese sandwiches

0:06:470:06:50

and dog biscuits overboard!

0:06:500:06:53

"Oh! I wish this wind would stop!" I shouted.

0:06:530:06:57

"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish,"

0:06:570:07:00

said the leprechaun.

0:07:000:07:02

And he did a little dance.

0:07:020:07:04

A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety.

0:07:040:07:07

And sure enough, the wind stopped and the sea became calm.

0:07:070:07:13

"I forgot that leprechauns could grant wishes," I said happily.

0:07:130:07:17

"Thank you!"

0:07:170:07:18

And on we went, towards the end of the rainbow.

0:07:180:07:22

Suddenly, we found ourselves under an inky cloud

0:07:220:07:26

and before you could say wrinkly whelks and winkles,

0:07:260:07:29

it showered us with cold rain.

0:07:290:07:32

"I wish this showery weather would stop," howled Salty.

0:07:320:07:36

"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish," he said.

0:07:360:07:40

And he did a little dance.

0:07:400:07:41

A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety.

0:07:410:07:44

And sure enough, the rain stopped.

0:07:440:07:47

The sun shone and the sky became totally blue.

0:07:470:07:51

"Fantastic!" I cried.

0:07:510:07:53

But then, looking into the distance,

0:07:530:07:56

I noticed the rainbow had disappeared.

0:07:560:07:59

"Without the showery weather, we don't have a rainbow," I groaned.

0:07:590:08:04

But the leprechaun wasn't listening, he was too busy dancing.

0:08:040:08:08

A-clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety.

0:08:080:08:11

I don't mind telling you this clickety-clackety

0:08:110:08:14

was giving me a headache!

0:08:140:08:16

"Stop!", I cried.

0:08:160:08:18

"Well, I'm a leprechaun and I can grant that wish," he said.

0:08:180:08:21

A-clickety-clackety. "Stop!"

0:08:210:08:23

Phew! My wish had come true.

0:08:250:08:27

He had stopped,

0:08:270:08:29

but so had everything else,

0:08:290:08:31

including the Rainbow's engine.

0:08:310:08:34

We were stuck.

0:08:340:08:35

Salty thought it would solve a lot of problems if we just wished

0:08:350:08:40

to be at the end of the rainbow,

0:08:400:08:42

which sounded like an excellent idea.

0:08:420:08:44

"It's too late for that now," said the leprechaun.

0:08:440:08:47

"I'm too hungry to grant any more wishes today."

0:08:470:08:51

Well, we didn't know how we would get to the end of the rainbow.

0:08:510:08:57

But, suddenly, ha!

0:08:570:08:58

Salty spotted a huge fin, poking up out of the water. Ha-ha!

0:08:580:09:03

It belonged to Donnie, our favourite dolphin taxi.

0:09:030:09:07

He roared up beside the boat.

0:09:070:09:10

"Help!" we cried,

0:09:100:09:11

"We're stuck and we need to find the end of the rainbow!"

0:09:110:09:15

"Oh, man," said the dolphin,

0:09:150:09:17

"Your rainbow is probably gone after the sea of showers.

0:09:170:09:21

"Throw a rope around my tail and we'll go find it."

0:09:210:09:25

Once we had dolphin power, we were never so fast!

0:09:250:09:29

"Watch out!" called Donnie when we reached the sea of showers,

0:09:290:09:32

"We get all sorts of unusual showers here."

0:09:320:09:36

But it was true, because suddenly, there was a shower of stars

0:09:360:09:41

that danced around us like fireworks,

0:09:410:09:44

but there was no sign of our rainbow.

0:09:440:09:46

Next came a shower of roses! Oh!

0:09:460:09:50

Which smelt lovely,

0:09:500:09:52

but felt a bit prickly and still there was no sign of our rainbow.

0:09:520:09:57

Well, finally, grey clouds gathered across the sky,

0:09:570:10:01

bumped into each other and started to shower rain.

0:10:010:10:05

Then, the sun shone through the rain and whoo-he-he!

0:10:050:10:09

Our rainbow suddenly burst across the sky.

0:10:090:10:14

"The rainbow ends just here, under the sea," said Donnie.

0:10:140:10:19

"Well, we better take a look," I said.

0:10:190:10:21

And before you could say spindly spider crabs,

0:10:210:10:25

we were strolling on the seabed.

0:10:250:10:28

And there, just in front of us, amongst the thick seaweed,

0:10:280:10:33

was the rainbow's end.

0:10:330:10:34

And there, behind a rock, was a shiny pot.

0:10:340:10:38

"Ooooh! It's me pot of gold!" said the leprechaun

0:10:380:10:42

and he lifted the lid.

0:10:420:10:44

Well, you've never seen so many dazzly, shimmering discs.

0:10:440:10:51

"Gold!" cried the leprechaun.

0:10:510:10:53

"Jiggly jubilations!"

0:10:530:10:56

And, of course, he danced. A-clickety-clackety...

0:10:560:11:00

"These... These are even better than gold coins," I said.

0:11:000:11:05

"They're golden chocolate coins."

0:11:050:11:09

Well, Salty, she sniffed them excitedly.

0:11:090:11:12

"And golden doggie snacks too," she woofed.

0:11:120:11:17

The leprechaun stopped dancing.

0:11:170:11:20

"Miserly miserations!" he moaned.

0:11:200:11:23

"I wanted real gold!"

0:11:230:11:26

And just then, we heard a growl.

0:11:260:11:29

It was the sound of the leprechaun's tummy rumbling.

0:11:290:11:33

"But I am a little bit peckish, to be sure," he chortled.

0:11:330:11:38

"Well, why don't you share them?" said Salty, licking her lips.

0:11:380:11:42

"That will make everyone happy."

0:11:420:11:44

"Oh, that's a brilliant idea, so it is,"

0:11:440:11:47

said the leprechaun.

0:11:470:11:49

So we all had a wonderful feast and you know what,

0:11:490:11:54

as the leprechaun was feeling full again, all his magic came back.

0:11:540:12:01

I wished for our lovely boat to appear in the sea above us

0:12:010:12:05

and, once we were all gathered on board,

0:12:050:12:08

we sailed on the Rainbow

0:12:080:12:12

all the way back to Staithes and home.

0:12:120:12:16

And those chocolates, oh! They were lovely!

0:12:160:12:19

You know that story, Salty? Yeah?

0:12:260:12:29

All true, of course.

0:12:290:12:31

Mind you, my stories always are! Ha-ha!

0:12:310:12:34

Come on, girl.

0:12:340:12:36

Hello, Emily! Any news with your rainbow spotting?

0:12:510:12:55

Nothing all day!

0:12:550:12:57

-Oh!

-I'm so disappointed.

0:12:570:12:59

What am I going to tell my granddaughter?

0:12:590:13:02

I promised her a picture of a rainbow over Staithes.

0:13:020:13:06

Rainbows can be very fussy things, you know.

0:13:060:13:09

Has anybody been looking after you?

0:13:090:13:11

-Oh, yes. Shelly's been bringing me cups of tea.

-Oh, that's good.

0:13:110:13:15

Oh!

0:13:150:13:17

Well, Emily, you were right after all!

0:13:270:13:31

Ha-ha-ha!

0:13:310:13:33

Oh, look at that!

0:13:330:13:35

Isn't it magical?

0:13:350:13:38

Oh, that's made my day!

0:13:390:13:43

Come on, Salty! Let's leave Emily to enjoy her rainbow. Bye-bye!

0:13:430:13:48

-Bye, Jack!

-Ha-ha-ha!
