Hello, there. I'm old Jack and this is Salty. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:26
Salty loves living here with me | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
and she often has adventures of her own. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:33
Are you sitting comfortably? Good. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
Then I'll tell you one of Salty's Waggy Tales. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:40
Once upon a twinkly time, Salty found a ball. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:48
It was hidden in a crumbly corner underneath some rocks. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:53
The ball that Salty found was small, it was a little squishy, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:58
and it was stuck. | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
She pushed it with her nose and she rolled it with her paw, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:03
but she couldn't get it out. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
So she woofed. And the ball popped out of the crumbly corner | 0:01:05 | 0:01:10
and rolled off down the street. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
Now, Salty likes to chase balls and she was pretty sure that this | 0:01:13 | 0:01:18
ball wanted to play, so like a streak of lightning, she dashed after it. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:24
The ball rolled off between the lobster pots and Salty chased it. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:29
The ball rolled across the bridge and Salty chased it. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:33
The ball rolled down some wobbly, cobbly old steps - | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
and there are a lot of steps in Staithes - and Salty chased it. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:41
The ball carried on rolling over the big steps and onto the beach. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:47
Salty came to a slithery stop | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
and peeked over the edge of the harbour wall. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
And that's when she discovered something else about the ball. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:58
It was very, very bouncy. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
BOING! | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
The ball was bouncing around from rock to rock. It wouldn't sit still. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:07
"Boing", it went. "Boing." | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
Now you may remember that Salty was almost a biscuit-catching | 0:02:10 | 0:02:16
champion and she thought to herself, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
"If I can catch a biscuit whizzing through the air | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
"I should be able to catch a silly old bouncy ball." | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
So she raced down the big steps and onto the beach | 0:02:26 | 0:02:30
and there in the distance was the ball bouncing on the rocks and | 0:02:30 | 0:02:35
boinging on the boulders. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
Salty dashed over to catch the bouncy ball. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
She tried and tried and tried and tried, but that cheeky ball, it kept | 0:02:40 | 0:02:47
bouncing high in the air and whizzing past her nose. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
Eventually with a mighty boing the ball bounced | 0:02:51 | 0:02:56
so high in the air that Salty lost sight of it. | 0:02:56 | 0:03:01
She heard a distant splash. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
And then nothing. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
The ball was gone. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
Salty looked around but she couldn't see it anywhere. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:12
It had disappeared into one of the many, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
many rock pools that you can find on the beach in Staithes. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:19
Now, rock pools are funny things. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
Half the day they sit doing nothing | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
and half the day the sea comes in and completely covers them. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:30
Salty realised that her bouncy ball | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
might soon be covered up by the mighty sea. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
But if that happened, it would disappear for ever. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:41
But which rock pool was the bouncy ball in? | 0:03:41 | 0:03:44
There must be hundreds and hundreds of rock pools on the beach. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:48
She'd never find it. And then Salty had one of her bright ideas. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:55
She gave a quick "woof" just as she had done in the crumbly corner. | 0:03:55 | 0:04:01
Ha-ha-ha! | 0:04:01 | 0:04:02
What do you think happened? | 0:04:02 | 0:04:04
Yes, there was a distant boing | 0:04:04 | 0:04:06
and the ball popped up from behind a rock. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:11
Salty's woof had given it back its bounce. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:15
Salty skipped over the rocks and the barnacles | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
and rescued the little ball before it could disappear again. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:23
And then she carried it proudly back across the beach | 0:04:23 | 0:04:27
so that everyone could see how clever she had been. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:30
She took the ball back to the crumbly corner where | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
she knew it would be safe. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
And whenever they want to play together again | 0:04:37 | 0:04:39
she knows exactly where to find it. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:43
Clever Salty. She's the best dog in the world. | 0:04:43 | 0:04:47 |
