-..and a woolly hat.

-Hanging from a peg

-from its left ear...

-..was her best friend -

-Tedi Fflwffyn.

-They would meet on the line

-every week.

-As soon as the back door

-of the house closed...

-..they'd start talking.

-Of course, the sparkly jumper

-was always the first to speak.

-She likes to show off.

-"Oh, dear me. It's so good to be me.

-"Shiny, warm, pretty.

-"That's why Cadi loves me so much."

-"Here we go again," said

-the left sock to the right sock.

-"She wears me almost every day,"

-said the jumper.

-"That's why I'm washed

-in the soft, soft stuff...

-"..before landing here

-with you so often.

-"I'm sure you'll all agree,

-that of all the clothes...

-"..I am the most important."

-"You can say that,"

-said left sock...

-.."but Cadi can't go anywhere

-without us."

-Right sock piped up,

-"No, darling, but she's tried.

-to Nain's house without us.

-"Blisters and cuts on her feet

-like you wouldn't believe."

-"Because she'd worn her shoes

-without us," replied left sock.

-"And so, Ms Jumper,

-I think you'll find...

-"..that of all the clothes in Cadi's

-wardrobe, we're the most important."

-"Hey, hold on,"

-protested woolly hat.

-"Who did Cadi want more than anyone

-during the cold winter weather?

-"Who was there to keep her ears

-and head warm? Me!

-"You're good for nothing

-if your head is freezing.

-"You have no idea.

-"All that's on your mind is,

-'Gosh, I'm cold' and nothing else.

-"But with me on her head,

-Cadi's nice and warm...

-"..out in the cold weather.

-"And so, I think you'll find...

-"..that of all the clothes in Cadi's

-wardrobe, I'm the most important."

-"We can't all be the most important

-in her cupboard," said right sock.

-"Maybe we should ask Tedi Fflwffyn

-what he thinks," said left sock...

-.."Since he is a teddy

-and not an item of clothing."

-Tedi Fflwffyn swung slowly

-towards them...

-.."I've been with Cadi

-since the day she was born.

-"She loves all the clothes she has.

-"Enjoy this fine sunny day.

-"Days like these

-don't last forever."

-"What's wrong with you?" asked

-jumper after the longest pause ever.

-"What kind of answer is that?"

-"There must be a better way

-of settling this."

-"There must be a better way

-of settling what?" asked a magpie.

-"Hold on, my friend,"

-said woolly hat.

-"If you had to choose

-one of us hanging on the line...

-"..who would you say

-is the most important?"

-"Oh, no doubt about it," said

-the magpie, puffing up its chest.

-"The jumper. As you all know,

-I like shiny things.

-"Those shiny gems on the jumper

-would look good in my nest."

-It flew away to steal

-some shiny paper from the bin.

-"See?" said shiny jumper.

-"That's the view of one magpie,"

-replied woolly hat.

-"I think we should ask

-someone else."

-"Ask what?" asked a little mouse

-which was racing through the grass.

-"We were discussing

-which one of us...

-"..is the most important

-item of clothing.

-"The magpie chose me

-for obvious yet tasteful reasons."

-"Hm," said the mouse's brother...

-.."I don't know

-if I agree with that.

-"What do you think, sister?"

-"Well, she's useful,

-but of no use to us.

-"She's too big and woolly.

-"We have our own fur

-to keep us warm.

-"I think," said the brother,

-"Socks are the best for us."

-"I agree," replied his sister.

-"We'd be so warm in winter,

-wouldn't we?

-"They'd be like cosy sleeping bags."

-"You're right, dear sister,"

-said the brother.

-"Let us know

-if you ever get bored of feet."

-Off they went, in a rush,

-to the nearest bush.

-"What do you have to say now,

-shiny jumper?"...

-..asked left sock

-with a contented smile.

-"A magpie or a mouse?

-Let's ask someone else."

-"Ask what to whom?"

-asked a rabbit that was hopping by.

-"We're just having a little

-discussion," said right sock.

-"Which item of clothing is

-the most important?" said left sock.

-"I think I'd choose the woolly hat,"

-said the rabbit.

-"Hoh!" said jumper.

-She wasn't happy.

-"Hoh!" said socks.

-"You see," said rabbit,

-"I collect a lot of food.

-"Carrots, lettuce, cabbage -

-and I take them back to my family.

-"I could use the woolly hat

-as a sack.

-"Perfect! Can I take it now?"

-"What? Now?"...

-..asked woolly hat,

-who was surprised with the offer.

-"Yes, well, thank you,

-but I'm still a little damp."

-"Oh, there we are then," said

-the rabbit, before hopping away.

-"Actually, I don't know if I want

-to be a sack, to be honest with you.

-"I'm happy enough

-keeping Cadi's head warm."

-"And," said left sock, "I'm not

-happy about a mouse inside me.

-"I just want to keep Cadi's feet

-warm. What do you say, right sock?"

-"I agree," said right sock.

-Jumper replied too.

-"I can't see myself at the bottom

-of a nest with a bird's eggs...

-"..cheap gems and sweet wrappers

-on my head.

-"I enjoy being Cadi's

-favourite jumper.

-"That's more important

-than anything."

-Just then, Tedi Fflwffyn turned

-to them in the gentle breeze.

-He said, once more...

-.."I've been with Cadi

-since the day she was born.

-"She loves all the clothes she has.

-"Enjoy this fine sunny day.

-"Days like these

-don't last forever."

-Tedi Fflwffyn had that

-wise, old look in his eyes.

-It was wonderful.

-They understood what he'd said.

-There's no such thing as the most

-important item of clothing.

-They're all important.

-Cadi needs them all.

-Soon, Cadi will grow up...

-..and Tedi Fflwffyn will hang on

-the line with a new row of clothes.

-As the clothes danced together

-in the gentle breeze...

-..they all promised

-to work together...

-..to make sure Cadi would be

-smart and warm and comfortable.

-After all,

-days like these don't last forever.
