Episode 1 Style Download

Hi, I'm Shannon, and welcome to Style Download.

Harry's 10. He likes playing snooker,

cricket, and he has two cats,

and he loves ice cream.

He's in the Cub Scouts, and he's got a big camping trip coming up,

so I'm here to make sure he's ready for any eventuality.

Oh, and he doesn't know it yet. So let's go and surprise him.

-Hi, Harry.

-Hi.

I'm here to help you with your camping trip.

-Can I come in?

-Yeah.

So, Harry, tell me about yourself.

I'm into sports and I'm part of the Cub Scouts.

-Right, and you've got your big camping trip coming up.

-Yeah.

-So I'm here to make sure that you're 100% prepared, OK?

-Yeah.

I'm good at what to do when camping,

but I'm not really sure with all the practical stuff.

So if you teach me how to put up a tent, I'll help

with everything else. Sound like a good trade?

-Yeah, sounds good.

-OK, cool.

-Well, I'll meet you outside with a tent.

-OK.

There you are! I'm going to need your help with this.

That's my old tent. This is my new one.

Oh. Well that makes it easier.

Time for Stage 2. Let's get inside.

So, if the most important thing about camping is your tent,

then the second most important thing could be a snack.

-Are you a fan of a snack?

-Well, you could say that.

-OK, cool.

-We're going to make something called S'mores.

-What is a S'more?

Well, all you need is a bar of chocolate, a packet of biscuits,

some wooden skewers,

and most importantly, a bag of marshmallows.

-Sounds interesting.

-Watch and learn, Harry. Watch and learn.

And finally, you skewer the marshmallow onto a stick

and hold it over the campfire, with adult supervision, of course.

-Well, there's only one problem. We haven't got a campfire.

-Oh, yeah.

Guess we'll have to throw them away, then. Only kidding!

We can cheat and use the microwave as well. Come on.

Leave in the microwave for about 10 seconds, but make sure

you allow to cool before touching, as they can be very hot.

OK. That's snacks sorted. Now for games.

Up to your bedroom for this one.

Now, you might be wondering why there's a tent in your room.

All will become clear once I give you this and do this.

Come on, follow me in the tent.

OK, so now I'm going to teach you the best game

to play in a tent ever - shadow puppets.

So the aim of the game is to guess what animal

the other person's making with their hand shadows.

-So to do a rabbit, it's like this.

-OK.

And then to do a swan, it's like this.

OK.

-Now you try.

-OK.

Oh, you're a natural. OK, let's get out,

cos I've got one final thing to show you.

Right, OK, so imagine it's pitch black

and you can't find your tent even with a torch.

What do you do?

Sleep on the grass?

Good answer, but wrong. Use these.

Glow-in-the-dark stickers, so you can pinpoint your tent,

-wherever it is.

-Cool.

Right, let's get sticking.

Camping is great fun,

but it can be even more fun if you follow these simple tips.

Find a tent you're comfortable with putting up.

Some of them can be pretty tough to put up,

but a pop-up tent is easy, and costs as little as £20.

Creating S'mores, your campfire snack.

You'll need a packet of marshmallows,

wooden skewers, digestive biscuits and a slab of chocolate.

Once the campfire is going, slide one of your marshmallows

onto a skewer and hold it at a safe distance

over the fire for a few seconds

while supervised by an adult

at all times.

Slide the hot marshmallow

onto one of your biscuits,

being careful not to touch, and place a piece of chocolate on top.

Once cool enough, you can start to eat. Delicious.

And the best part is, if you don't have a campfire,

you can do them in the microwave. Just leave them in for 10 seconds.

A great way to make the most of the dark

is by playing a game like shadow puppets.

Shine a torch against the side of your tent

while making animal shapes with your hands.

Your friends must guess the animal from the shadow,

either from inside the tent or outside.

To make a rabbit, clench your fist

and point two fingers up to make the ears.

Then, using your other hand, wrap it around

and use the knuckle as a mouth.

My favourite part of the day was probably meeting Shannon.

I think I got the better end of the deal,

because I put up the tent,

and that was easy, but Shannon taught me a lot more.

So the good news is,

Harry's ready and packed for his big camping trip.

-The bad news is, it's not till next week.

-Ohhh!
