And taking a look at when things didn't always go to plan. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:17
SHE SCREAMS | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
Right! | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
We've seen it all on this series of The Dengineers. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
-Hello! -Hello! | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
Mega-surprised faces, check. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
Mind-blowing engineering, check. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
Ta-da! | 0:01:32 | 0:01:33
Magical! | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
That's why an arch is so much stronger. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
Mega-famous celebrities, check. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
-I'm going to come to the ginger den when it's ready. -Yeah. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
And most importantly, we've built loads of amazing dens. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:48
-BOTH: -Check! | 0:01:48 | 0:01:49
Oh, my gosh, it's amazing. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
-Do we like it? ALL: -Yeah! | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
We had thousands of applications for this series. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
That is a lot of wannabe Dengineers. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
And surprising our lucky ten to tell them they were going to be | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
getting their dream den was a tricky job. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
I tell you what, you lot are clever, you know. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
Yeah, there were a few times when we almost got caught, but, luckily, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
we were able to keep the secret and deliver the good news | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
-to our Dengineers. -That's what we do. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Before a Dengineers hit can go down, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
we need to set up our super-sneaky hidden cameras. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
But sometimes, they're not quite hidden enough for our eagle-eyed | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
Dengineers, like when we went to surprise | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
superstar DJ Joshua at his home in Cardiff. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
Oh, Daddy's friend came round this morning, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
he's thinking of doing some security system. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
-Who's in? -I don't know. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
-LAUREN: -Good save, Mum. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:50
And that's not the only close shave we've had on this series of | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
The Dengineers. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
(That was close.) | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
It's fine, it's fine. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
After all the sneaking around is done, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
it's surprise time, and we have had some belters this year. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
-Hello! -Hello! | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
How are you doing? | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
If this series has taught us anything, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
it's that surprised faces come in a range of styles. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
Surprise! | 0:03:15 | 0:03:16
Eleanor, how are you? | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
There's the "smiley surprise" face. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
The "is this actually happening?" face. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
No, this isn't true. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
And don't forget the | 0:03:27 | 0:03:28
"I can't believe Mark and Lauren just popped out of a recycling bin" | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
face. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:32 | |
-BOTH: -Hello! | 0:03:32 | 0:03:33
But the title of most shocked-face of the series goes to Lola | 0:03:34 | 0:03:38
when we surprised her at school. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:40
We're here to tell you - yes, you, Lola - | 0:03:40 | 0:03:44
that you're going to be building your very own | 0:03:44 | 0:03:46
dream Hollywood cinema den. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:48
Oh, I tell you what, | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
it's nice to be able to just sit back and relax sometimes, isn't it? | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
Do you know what, it is pretty good, isn't it? | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
But it's not always like this. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
There has been some serious graft on The Dengineers. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
Yeah, you're right. Hard-working bunch, the old Dengineers. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:08
-Oh, yeah. -Salt or sweet, Loz? | 0:04:08 | 0:04:10
Oh, I'll go for salted please, I think. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:12
Wa-ha-ha! | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
SHE LAUGHS WEAKLY | 0:04:14 | 0:04:16
Our Dengineers team work mega-hard from the second they arrive on-site. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:30
Dengineers have landed. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:31
And when the build gets going, no job is too big for the Dengineers. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:39
We've said "see you later" to a ceiling. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
It's coming. Yes! | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
Woo! | 0:04:48 | 0:04:49 | |
APPLAUSE | 0:04:49 | 0:04:50
We've carried a roof weighing over 220kg around a house... | 0:04:57 | 0:05:02
-LAUREN: -Watch this corner here, though - it's really, really tight. | 0:05:02 | 0:05:05
..through a garden, and up onto the structure of a den. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:10
But the biggest challenge of the series was in Manchester, | 0:05:17 | 0:05:20
when the Dengineers had to dig up not one, | 0:05:20 | 0:05:22
but two sections of a community centre. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:26
The team started by ripping up the ground in one area of the build | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
and digging a massive hole in another. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:31
And the result of all this hard graft was the creation of an amazing | 0:05:34 | 0:05:37
running track and an awesome sunken trampoline. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:41
And the hard work doesn't stop there. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:43
The Dengineers team only have four days on-site to build each den, | 0:05:52 | 0:05:56
so we have to work our socks off every single second. | 0:05:56 | 0:05:59
And there were times this series when we cut it really close | 0:06:03 | 0:06:05
to the wire. | 0:06:05 | 0:06:07
I'm a bit worried, but if Dengineers can't do it, nobody can. | 0:06:07 | 0:06:10
SHE BELLOWS | 0:06:12 | 0:06:13
I'm going to drop it, I'm going to drop it! | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
And the most dramatic finish of the series was in Cardiff, | 0:06:18 | 0:06:22
where it was a race against time to get Joshua's DJ den done for | 0:06:22 | 0:06:26
the Big Reveal. | 0:06:26 | 0:06:27
This was a huge ask and the whole team had to put in a massive shift, | 0:06:28 | 0:06:32
including me and Loz. | 0:06:32 | 0:06:34
That's it. Perfect. | 0:06:34 | 0:06:35
-LAUREN GRUNTS -I'll pull, you pull that. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:39
SHE LAUGHS | 0:06:39 | 0:06:40
-Go! -HE GRUNTS | 0:06:40 | 0:06:42
Joshua's friends and family arrived at the house and, | 0:06:43 | 0:06:46
despite work still being done on the den, | 0:06:46 | 0:06:48
the team had no choice but to set for the Big Reveal. | 0:06:48 | 0:06:51
But Dengineers work hard and never give up | 0:06:55 | 0:06:58
and we all made one final push for the finish line. | 0:06:58 | 0:07:01
And after a monumental effort, the DJ den was complete. | 0:07:03 | 0:07:08
I tell you what, I'm getting a sweat on just watching that hard work. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:15
We did loads, didn't we? | 0:07:15 | 0:07:16
Oh, we did. It was a hard run, but it's safe to say, along the way, | 0:07:16 | 0:07:20
we had a lot of fun. Wahey! SHE YELPS | 0:07:20 | 0:07:23
Us Dengineers work hard, but we also love to have a laugh. | 0:07:26 | 0:07:29
There we go, right? Here's for a ten. | 0:07:34 | 0:07:36
One, two, three, four. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:37
Oh, it's gone over the fence! | 0:07:37 | 0:07:40
-It's not rugby! -No, I know, mate. I know. | 0:07:40 | 0:07:43
What Sege lacks in footballing skills, he more than makes up for | 0:07:43 | 0:07:46
on the dance floor. | 0:07:46 | 0:07:47
Right, I'm starting to dress it up now. | 0:07:47 | 0:07:49
OK. | 0:07:49 | 0:07:50 | |
# Got to dress it up | 0:07:50 | 0:07:52
# Dress it up got to dress it up | 0:07:52 | 0:07:53
# Na-na-na-na Na-na-na-na-na-na-na. # | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
CHEERING | 0:07:56 | 0:07:58
And he's not the only one who caught the Dengineers Come Dancing bug | 0:07:58 | 0:08:02
this year. | 0:08:02 | 0:08:04
We've seen some brilliant Bollywood moves. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:09
-Go on, then. -Ready for this? -Yeah, yeah, go on. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:13
# Never gonna give you up never gonna let you down... # | 0:08:13 | 0:08:15
Oh, dad tune! | 0:08:15 | 0:08:18
Exactly. | 0:08:18 | 0:08:19
We've seen some less-than-brilliant dad dancing. | 0:08:19 | 0:08:22
# Da-da-da da-da. # | 0:08:25 | 0:08:27
This is how all the cool kids dance. | 0:08:27 | 0:08:29
Oh, I've done it wrong! | 0:08:29 | 0:08:31
And, as you can see, I'm not afraid to throw some shapes, either. | 0:08:31 | 0:08:35
SHE LAUGHS | 0:08:35 | 0:08:36
Ooh! | 0:08:36 | 0:08:37 | |
Almost did a fall! | 0:08:40 | 0:08:41
Yeah, I...I've got other talents. | 0:08:43 | 0:08:45
Dancing isn't one of them. | 0:08:45 | 0:08:47
Whilst Lozza was showing her limited skills on the dance floor, | 0:08:49 | 0:08:53
I was showing my prowess with, well, let's just say, a wind instrument. | 0:08:53 | 0:08:57
A lot's been done, to be fair. We got the old chalkboard done. | 0:08:57 | 0:09:00
-Well done. -Um, did you hear that? | 0:09:00 | 0:09:02
I just farted as I said "chalkboard". | 0:09:02 | 0:09:04
It came out by accident! | 0:09:04 | 0:09:05
LAUGHTER | 0:09:05 | 0:09:07
Cor, that's bad. Can you smell that, Jay? | 0:09:07 | 0:09:09
LAUGHTER | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
-That there... -What? | 0:09:11 | 0:09:13
-Don't start. -.. looks... -Do NOT start - I ain't got time for this. | 0:09:13 | 0:09:17
-Mark, I honestly... -HE FARTS | 0:09:17 | 0:09:19
HE FARTS | 0:09:25 | 0:09:27
-HE FARTS -No! | 0:09:27 | 0:09:31
No! | 0:09:31 | 0:09:33 | |
Jen, Mark's doing you-know-what again. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:36
-HE FARTS -Was that what think it was? | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
-That was my foot. -You sure? | 0:09:39 | 0:09:41
'Sorry, Loz, but it is only natural.' | 0:09:41 | 0:09:43
'That, Mark Wright, is one thing I certainly will not be missing.' | 0:09:43 | 0:09:47
Why am I spinning?! Why? No! | 0:09:47 | 0:09:50
'But I have loved dancing, | 0:09:50 | 0:09:52
'laughing and having loads of fun with the best den building team | 0:09:52 | 0:09:55
'in the world.' | 0:09:55 | 0:09:56
-She's out! -Oh! Careful! | 0:09:58 | 0:10:00
And as well as doing all of that really cool stuff, | 0:10:04 | 0:10:06
we met some amazing people along the way. | 0:10:06 | 0:10:09
Oh! Talking about me again, are you, Mark, eh? | 0:10:09 | 0:10:11
Yeah(!) No. We're talking about this lot. | 0:10:11 | 0:10:14
It's been a celeb-fest on this series of The Dengineers. | 0:10:16 | 0:10:20
We've met superstar names from music, radio, | 0:10:20 | 0:10:23
TV and only, like, | 0:10:23 | 0:10:25
one of the biggest authors in the world. | 0:10:25 | 0:10:27
Yeah, budding writer Eleanor got the surprise of her life when she got to | 0:10:29 | 0:10:33
meet her hero, Jacqueline Wilson. | 0:10:33 | 0:10:35
It's lovely to meet you, sweetheart. | 0:10:35 | 0:10:37
-LAUREN: -You are getting an actual signed copy | 0:10:37 | 0:10:40
of Jacqueline Wilson's new book. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:42
-How does that sound? -Sounds amazing. | 0:10:42 | 0:10:44
I don't think Eleanor will forget that experience in a while. | 0:10:44 | 0:10:47
And who can forget Joshua's face | 0:10:49 | 0:10:51
when he found out he was getting | 0:10:51 | 0:10:53
VIP access to his favourite radio station? | 0:10:53 | 0:10:56
What if I told you that we're going to take a little tour | 0:10:56 | 0:10:59
around the Radio 1 studios? | 0:10:59 | 0:11:02
-Really? -Yes. Would you like that? -Yeah. | 0:11:02 | 0:11:05
-Shall we go for it? -Yeah. -Come on, let's go. | 0:11:05 | 0:11:07
On his tour of the Radio 1 studios, Joshua met not one... | 0:11:08 | 0:11:12
Nice to meet you, Josh. I'm Greg. | 0:11:12 | 0:11:14
..not two... | 0:11:14 | 0:11:15
-Hello. -Hello. | 0:11:15 | 0:11:17
-Hi, Lauren. -Matt Edmondson! -Hi, Josh. | 0:11:17 | 0:11:19
..but three mega-famous DJs. | 0:11:19 | 0:11:21
Hi, Joshua. | 0:11:21 | 0:11:23
-Hiya. -Hi, I'm Annie. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:25
One of which was his fave DJ, Annie Mac, | 0:11:25 | 0:11:27
who gave him an extra-special music lesson. | 0:11:27 | 0:11:30
And then, bring this fader down. | 0:11:30 | 0:11:32
MUSIC VOLUME DECREASES | 0:11:32 | 0:11:34
Yes. | 0:11:34 | 0:11:35 | |
DJ! | 0:11:37 | 0:11:38 | |
-You did it! -DJ in the place! -Amazing! | 0:11:38 | 0:11:41
DANCE MUSIC PLAYS | 0:11:41 | 0:11:43
Yes, Joshua! | 0:11:43 | 0:11:45
Did you enjoy that, Josh? | 0:11:45 | 0:11:46
These den day outs were great, | 0:11:46 | 0:11:48
but my fave famous meet of the series has to be when Carrie got | 0:11:48 | 0:11:51
VIP tickets to see Jess Glynne perform at Wembley Arena in London. | 0:11:51 | 0:11:55
# Darling, hold my hand | 0:11:55 | 0:11:57
# Oh, won't you hold my hand? | 0:11:59 | 0:12:01
# Cos I don't wanna walk on my own any more | 0:12:03 | 0:12:06
# Won't you understand? | 0:12:06 | 0:12:08
# Cos I don't wanna walk alone | 0:12:10 | 0:12:12
# I'm ready for this There's no denying | 0:12:12 | 0:12:15
# I'm ready for this You stop me falling | 0:12:15 | 0:12:19
# I'm ready for this I need you all in... # | 0:12:19 | 0:12:23
-Can you believe how close we are? -I know! | 0:12:23 | 0:12:25
# So, darling, hold my hand. # | 0:12:25 | 0:12:27
Wow! | 0:12:31 | 0:12:32 | |
And our Carrie didn't just get to see her favourite artist | 0:12:32 | 0:12:36
perform live, she also got to meet Jess backstage to tell her about | 0:12:36 | 0:12:40
her amazing gingerbread house den. | 0:12:40 | 0:12:43
So, Carrie, meet Jess, Jess, meet Carrie. | 0:12:43 | 0:12:45
-I like the colour of your hair. -Thanks! | 0:12:45 | 0:12:48
What have you got to say about the colour of your hair? | 0:12:48 | 0:12:50
What are you doing with The Dengineers? | 0:12:50 | 0:12:52
-Well, people used to tease me because of my hair colour... -Oh. | 0:12:52 | 0:12:55
so I wanted to, like, do a den to, like, be proud of it | 0:12:55 | 0:12:57
and to be positive and stuff. | 0:12:57 | 0:12:59
-Oh, yeah. Can I come? -Yeah. -Oh, wicked! | 0:12:59 | 0:13:02
-Would you let Jess into your den? -Yeah. -Oh, that's exciting. | 0:13:02 | 0:13:05
-I'm going to come to the ginger den when it's ready. -Yeah. | 0:13:05 | 0:13:08
'Imagine that - | 0:13:08 | 0:13:10
'Jess Glynne popping round your den for a cup of tea?' | 0:13:10 | 0:13:12
Tell you what, Mark, you wouldn't catch any of them lot getting things | 0:13:17 | 0:13:20
-wrong. -I know. Unlike you, Lozza. | 0:13:20 | 0:13:22
Uh, what? I think you'll find you're the person getting things wrong | 0:13:22 | 0:13:25
all the time. | 0:13:25 | 0:13:26
I'll say again - what's my surname? | 0:13:26 | 0:13:29
Wright. | 0:13:29 | 0:13:31
Mark Wright, not Wrong. | 0:13:31 | 0:13:34
It is day one of Whitney's eco-den build and the Dengineers | 0:13:35 | 0:13:38
have arrived. And when they arrive, they arrive in style. | 0:13:38 | 0:13:42
I think I'd better go give them a hand. | 0:13:42 | 0:13:44
Oh, that was not the end of the van! | 0:13:44 | 0:13:46
On this series of The Dengineers, things haven't always gone to plan. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:52
I mean, I think it's great that you're such a good loser. | 0:13:52 | 0:13:55
Oh! Sorry, you've got a line there, haven't you? | 0:13:55 | 0:13:57
Hello, son! | 0:13:57 | 0:13:59
-Out-take. Crash. Let's go again. -There he is. | 0:13:59 | 0:14:02
LAUREN LAUGHS | 0:14:06 | 0:14:08
I like a good quote. | 0:14:08 | 0:14:09
-Makes you feel inspired. -What's your favourite quote? | 0:14:09 | 0:14:11
Um, I like... | 0:14:11 | 0:14:13
-What about...? -What? -..YOLO? | 0:14:13 | 0:14:15
-YOLO's not a quote! -You just confirmed. | 0:14:15 | 0:14:17
That's what you put in a text message. | 0:14:17 | 0:14:19
-Of course it's a... -YOLO?! | 0:14:19 | 0:14:21
Of course it's a quote! | 0:14:21 | 0:14:22
You only live once. | 0:14:22 | 0:14:24
Yeah, put that as the quote - "You only live once" - | 0:14:24 | 0:14:26
-don't put YOLO across the top! -No, YOLO's the short version | 0:14:26 | 0:14:29
of the quote. | 0:14:29 | 0:14:30
So it's the day of Whitney... HE SIGHS | 0:14:36 | 0:14:39
LAUGHTER | 0:14:43 | 0:14:44
So it's the day of Whitney's big den reveal. | 0:14:49 | 0:14:52
'And it's not just me and Mark who struggle with our lines.' | 0:14:54 | 0:14:57
OK, this is the fun bit, this is... | 0:14:57 | 0:14:59
I'll start again. OK, this is another one of those fun... | 0:14:59 | 0:15:02
No, no. Sege! Pow! | 0:15:02 | 0:15:04
All right. | 0:15:04 | 0:15:05
OK, Rufus, what I've got for you now is a really cool upcycle idea. | 0:15:05 | 0:15:09
-Not a hi-dear. -Hi, dear? -No, idea. -CREW: -Hi, dear! | 0:15:11 | 0:15:14
And the thing is, even when we get it right, things can still go wrong. | 0:15:14 | 0:15:19
-I reckon... -SHE SCREAMS | 0:15:19 | 0:15:21
SHE LAUGHS | 0:15:21 | 0:15:23
You'll be wearing goggles after that. | 0:15:23 | 0:15:25
Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. | 0:15:25 | 0:15:27
That couldn't have gone any worse. | 0:15:27 | 0:15:29
Thing is, they're all helping each other, I'm here on me own. | 0:15:29 | 0:15:32
Right. | 0:15:32 | 0:15:33
-DENGINEER: -Yeah, don't touch the plywood. | 0:15:36 | 0:15:38
What am I going to do? | 0:15:39 | 0:15:40
I don't know, Mark, it's broken, mate. | 0:15:40 | 0:15:42
Sege? Sege?! | 0:15:42 | 0:15:45
We do make a good team, don't we, Lozza? | 0:15:49 | 0:15:51
Yeah, we do, actually. We really do. | 0:15:51 | 0:15:53
And it's great that you don't mind that I beat you | 0:15:53 | 0:15:55
-at everything as well. -Uh, what? | 0:15:55 | 0:15:57
Well, I...I think it's great that you, you know, | 0:15:57 | 0:15:59
you're such a good loser. It's amazing. | 0:15:59 | 0:16:01
Seems to me that you've got some kind of, like, selective memory loss | 0:16:01 | 0:16:04
or something, Mark. Better...better get that checked out, mate, yeah? | 0:16:04 | 0:16:07
MARK: One, two... | 0:16:09 | 0:16:11
'Me and Lozza have pitted our wits against each other at, well, | 0:16:11 | 0:16:15
'pretty much everything this series.' | 0:16:15 | 0:16:18
HE LAUGHS | 0:16:18 | 0:16:19
'But, whatever the challenge, you can be sure of one thing - | 0:16:19 | 0:16:22
'Mark likes to think he's the best.' | 0:16:22 | 0:16:25
Beat that! Yes! | 0:16:25 | 0:16:28
'But after months of den building, | 0:16:28 | 0:16:30
'we finally found Mark's Achilles heel.' | 0:16:30 | 0:16:32
There is no better painter on the Dengineers than moi. | 0:16:32 | 0:16:36
Oh. | 0:16:36 | 0:16:37 | |
Olga? | 0:16:38 | 0:16:40 | |
-Olga?! -Yeah? | 0:16:40 | 0:16:42
Quick. I've painted the red. | 0:16:42 | 0:16:43
Unlucky, Marky boy. | 0:16:45 | 0:16:47
Speaking of challenges, | 0:16:47 | 0:16:48
there's been one this series that has been totally | 0:16:48 | 0:16:51
out of our control... | 0:16:51 | 0:16:52
..the weather. | 0:16:54 | 0:16:55
Yeah, we've had our fair share of rain this year. | 0:16:55 | 0:16:59
We had showers in Surrey when building our plane den. | 0:16:59 | 0:17:02
We had bucket-loads of rain in Manchester on our community den. | 0:17:02 | 0:17:06
And in Cardiff, we had torrential rain storms to contend with | 0:17:06 | 0:17:09
when building Joshua's DJ den. | 0:17:09 | 0:17:12
These downpours threatened to wash out our builds, | 0:17:12 | 0:17:15
but it was in Leeds, at Carrie's gingerbread house den, | 0:17:15 | 0:17:17
where we faced our most dangerous weather challenge. | 0:17:17 | 0:17:20
If the wind gets too strong, | 0:17:20 | 0:17:22
we'll have to just stop doing the shingles today, cos it could | 0:17:22 | 0:17:25
genuinely get quite dangerous. | 0:17:25 | 0:17:27
There's stuff we can still be doing inside, | 0:17:27 | 0:17:29
so we've not really thought about that yet. As you can see, | 0:17:29 | 0:17:31
it's really windy. | 0:17:31 | 0:17:32
Fortunately for the Dengineers, though, | 0:17:34 | 0:17:36
the fierce winds eventually died down | 0:17:36 | 0:17:39
and the team were able to push on. | 0:17:39 | 0:17:41
Building complicated dens | 0:17:46 | 0:17:47
comes with loads of engineering challenges too | 0:17:47 | 0:17:50
and this series, we've had plenty. | 0:17:50 | 0:17:52
We've seen the engineering behind a retractable dome in the style of the | 0:17:53 | 0:17:57
Taj Mahal in India. | 0:17:57 | 0:17:58
We've found out how wind turbines work. | 0:18:00 | 0:18:03
And we've seen how a staircase can support the weight of 20 people | 0:18:05 | 0:18:09
despite looking like it's floating in thin air. | 0:18:09 | 0:18:13
But our favourite engineering explanation had to be on | 0:18:13 | 0:18:17
the plane den when Sege used a couple of bricks and some card | 0:18:17 | 0:18:20
to show me why a curved roof is stronger than a flat one. | 0:18:20 | 0:18:22
This is your flat top - that's not your roof, OK? | 0:18:23 | 0:18:26
But if I place that brick on there... | 0:18:26 | 0:18:28
-Yeah. -..you can see what happens to it. | 0:18:28 | 0:18:30
-Yeah, yeah. -Very, very weak. | 0:18:30 | 0:18:31
-Yeah. -It has no support of its own to speak of, so it just caves in. | 0:18:31 | 0:18:35
However, if I take this card and bend it into an arch, | 0:18:35 | 0:18:39
into the shape of a Nissen hut, | 0:18:39 | 0:18:42
and then I place this half-brick on top. | 0:18:42 | 0:18:46
-Ta-da! -Magical! | 0:18:46 | 0:18:48
-You see? -That is really clever. | 0:18:48 | 0:18:49
And that's why an arch is so much stronger. | 0:18:49 | 0:18:52
It's self-supporting. | 0:18:52 | 0:18:54
Ah, that's fascinating. | 0:18:54 | 0:18:55
So that's what it's going to be like on Philip's den. | 0:18:55 | 0:18:58
-Without the half-brick. -Let's take the bricks away. | 0:18:58 | 0:19:00
-We'll take the bricks away. -We don't want the bricks. | 0:19:00 | 0:19:03
-That's magical! -So Philip's den's going to look like that. -Amazing. | 0:19:03 | 0:19:05
We have made some absolutely brilliant dens this series. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:12
-They have been amazing, haven't they? -They've been so, so good. | 0:19:12 | 0:19:15
But imagine one great, big, huge, | 0:19:15 | 0:19:19
ultimate den! | 0:19:19 | 0:19:20
Our dream den would have to have the size and scale of our amazing | 0:19:23 | 0:19:27
community den in Manchester. | 0:19:27 | 0:19:29
Well, there's no doubt about it - it's got to get finished. | 0:19:29 | 0:19:31
We're not even going to consider a backup, | 0:19:31 | 0:19:33
we're just going to get it done. | 0:19:33 | 0:19:34
And for the outside of the den, | 0:19:34 | 0:19:36
we'd have to go for the colourful retro exterior | 0:19:36 | 0:19:39
of Soibi's journalism den. | 0:19:39 | 0:19:41
We'd cover the roof in the stylish shingles from | 0:19:41 | 0:19:45
Carrie's gingerbread house den. | 0:19:45 | 0:19:46
CHEERING | 0:19:46 | 0:19:48
And on said roof, | 0:19:48 | 0:19:49
we'd have the solar panels and wind turbine from Whitney's eco-den | 0:19:49 | 0:19:53
to allow our den to make its own electricity. | 0:19:53 | 0:19:56
The inside of our super den would have the laser effect lighting | 0:19:57 | 0:20:00
from Joshua's DJ den. | 0:20:00 | 0:20:02
The mega-cool hidden desk from Eleanor's magical library den. | 0:20:03 | 0:20:06
And the pilot's chair from Philip's plane den. | 0:20:08 | 0:20:10
This den needs extra seating for when our mates come round, | 0:20:12 | 0:20:15
'so we'd take Aaron's magnificent throne from his Bollywood den.' | 0:20:15 | 0:20:18
Oh, this looks ace! Look at that! | 0:20:18 | 0:20:22
And there would deffo be a place for the | 0:20:22 | 0:20:25
humongous projector from Lola's cinema den. | 0:20:25 | 0:20:27
'And last but not least, | 0:20:27 | 0:20:29
'we'd have the awesome trap door from Rufus' adventure den.' | 0:20:29 | 0:20:33
-Hello, trap door! -Whoa! | 0:20:33 | 0:20:34
Now, that, Lozza, really would be the ultimate dream den. | 0:20:34 | 0:20:39
None of our brilliant dens would have been possible without our | 0:20:43 | 0:20:46
brilliant designers. | 0:20:46 | 0:20:47
Yeah, we've had five of the top creative minds in the world | 0:20:47 | 0:20:50
-working on our dens. -And, boy, did they do good. | 0:20:50 | 0:20:53
Our five awesome designers have been responsible for producing | 0:20:54 | 0:20:58
some of the most complicated and ambitious builds ever. | 0:20:58 | 0:21:02
You just want it to move that way slightly, towards Greg. | 0:21:02 | 0:21:04
And they each bring a unique style and creativity to their dens. | 0:21:04 | 0:21:08
She's a master of designing huge-scale dens | 0:21:13 | 0:21:16
which make her builds stand out from the crowd. | 0:21:16 | 0:21:18
-What do you reckon? -It's fantastic. | 0:21:18 | 0:21:21
-You like it? -Yeah. -You like the colours? | 0:21:21 | 0:21:23
-Yes. -Yes! | 0:21:23 | 0:21:25
And Olga's not afraid to take a risk, | 0:21:25 | 0:21:27
as we saw on the journalism den when | 0:21:27 | 0:21:29
she decided to use a material so delicate | 0:21:29 | 0:21:32
that one false move with a drill would spell disaster for the den. | 0:21:32 | 0:21:36
I'm looking a bit worried cos this is the most important part | 0:21:38 | 0:21:40
of the den. | 0:21:40 | 0:21:42
So, literally, every single screw can damage the acrylic and it can | 0:21:42 | 0:21:45
snap. And if it snaps, we have nothing to replace it with. | 0:21:45 | 0:21:49
And when she's not designing and building dens, | 0:21:49 | 0:21:52
our Olga loves to throw some shapes on the dance floor. | 0:21:52 | 0:21:55
This is the best bit. | 0:21:55 | 0:21:56
Next up... | 0:22:01 | 0:22:02
With over 30 years' experience in the building industry, | 0:22:04 | 0:22:07
he's the daddy when it comes to designing dens. | 0:22:07 | 0:22:09
Easy! Easy! Come on, let's get cracking. | 0:22:12 | 0:22:14
Do you think that one needs to go back...? | 0:22:14 | 0:22:16
Sege's attention to detail is legendary, | 0:22:16 | 0:22:18
as we saw with the plane den, | 0:22:18 | 0:22:20
when he combined Philip's two favourite World War II planes | 0:22:20 | 0:22:23
into the den of his dreams. | 0:22:23 | 0:22:25
-Wow! -You like it? -This looks incredible! | 0:22:25 | 0:22:27
-It's cool, isn't it? -Thank you. | 0:22:27 | 0:22:29
Sege is a busy man on his builds and likes to keep his energy levels up | 0:22:31 | 0:22:35
whenever possible. | 0:22:35 | 0:22:36
-How many of them have you had? -HE GRUNTS | 0:22:36 | 0:22:39
-I love these. -Unbelievable. -Try one. | 0:22:39 | 0:22:41
-I've had one, they're lovely, but that is ridiculous. -I know. | 0:22:41 | 0:22:45
She's an awesome architect who loves to think big with her designs. | 0:22:48 | 0:22:52
I've started looking at your ideas and I've come up with | 0:22:52 | 0:22:56
a woodland theme den. | 0:22:56 | 0:22:58
Maral's got loads of creative flair, as we saw in Lola's cinema den | 0:22:58 | 0:23:03
when she turned a fun photo shoot into personalised film posters | 0:23:03 | 0:23:06
for the outside of the den. | 0:23:06 | 0:23:08
Maral loves getting stuck in, but she also runs a tight ship. | 0:23:11 | 0:23:15
Lauren, you can't be eating all of the popcorn! | 0:23:15 | 0:23:18
Get out! | 0:23:18 | 0:23:19
And last but not least, we've got the tremendous twosome. | 0:23:19 | 0:23:22
The great thing is, it's all made out of recycled materials, | 0:23:24 | 0:23:27
or reclaimed materials. | 0:23:27 | 0:23:28
And the other thing we've done is, we've got a wind turbine | 0:23:28 | 0:23:31
on the corner that captures the wind... | 0:23:31 | 0:23:32
-Oh, yeah! -..so that will help to power it. | 0:23:32 | 0:23:35
These architects and lecturers have over 40 years' experience designing | 0:23:35 | 0:23:39
amazing structures. | 0:23:39 | 0:23:40
These guys love pushing the boundaries of den building | 0:23:41 | 0:23:44
and showed this with their crooked and wonky designs for Carrie's | 0:23:44 | 0:23:47
gingerbread house den. | 0:23:47 | 0:23:48
I think the wonkiness, like, really paid off. | 0:23:48 | 0:23:51
I think it looks amazing. | 0:23:51 | 0:23:52
Proper wonk factor, innit? | 0:23:52 | 0:23:55
As well as designing some amazing dens, | 0:23:55 | 0:23:57
Tony and Satwinder have also given us some mega LOLs. | 0:23:57 | 0:24:01
This naughty little knob won't go on! | 0:24:01 | 0:24:03
-I'm just going to stamp this one. -LAUREN LAUGHS | 0:24:05 | 0:24:07
These five awesome designers all bring different styles and skills | 0:24:09 | 0:24:13
to their work, but they all have one thing in common - | 0:24:13 | 0:24:16
they produce amazing dens. | 0:24:16 | 0:24:18
We have absolutely loved building these fantastic dens. | 0:24:22 | 0:24:26
But it's not what we think that counts. | 0:24:26 | 0:24:27
Let's see what the Dengineers and their friends and family thought. | 0:24:27 | 0:24:31
Guys, are you ready to see your den? | 0:24:31 | 0:24:33
-ALL: -Yes! | 0:24:33 | 0:24:35
CHEERING | 0:24:35 | 0:24:37
Five, four, three, | 0:24:39 | 0:24:42
two, one... | 0:24:42 | 0:24:43
What do we reckon? | 0:24:48 | 0:24:50
It's amazing! | 0:24:50 | 0:24:52
Oh, my gosh, it's amazing! | 0:25:03 | 0:25:05
What do you reckon, Whitney? | 0:25:05 | 0:25:07
Oh, it's so cool, I love it. | 0:25:07 | 0:25:09
-DAD: -Wow! | 0:25:09 | 0:25:12
Whoa! | 0:25:12 | 0:25:13 | |
That is epic! | 0:25:13 | 0:25:16
That's so cool. | 0:25:16 | 0:25:17
Do we like it? | 0:25:17 | 0:25:19
