And today we're going on a Western riding adventure.

I'm going to be a cowgirl.

I'm going to be a cowboy.

BOTH: Let's go!

HORSE NEIGHS

Steph knows all about horses and ponies,

so we're in really good hands.

-Hey, how are you?

-Really excited about today!

So, here are your saddles.

-Why do we need saddles?

-The saddles keep you nice and comfy.

You'll be riding for a long time. This is where you sit.

The fenders protect the horse's sides.

These stirrups are for your feet.

-Shall we meet your ponies?

-BOTH: Yes.

-They're this way.

These are your ponies. This is Tilly, this is Honey.

-Now we're going to have to groom them.

-What's that?

Grooming is where we brush the horse's hair and body

to get the dirt off,

so if you pop your helmets on and then we'll get started.

So, when you brush a pony, you brush in nice, firm strokes. That's it.

We're getting all the dirt off

so when the saddle is on, it doesn't rub her back. That's it.

Now that the ponies have been groomed,

we have to get them ready for us to sit on.

This is called tacking up.

We put the saddles on the ponies.

And then the bridles.

And Honey's ready to go.

Jump, and swing your leg over.

Good job!

We're ready to ride our ponies.

Tammy and Ray will show you how it's done. Have fun.

OK. Hi, guys.

So, first thing we're going to do is walk forward.

Give them a little nudge with your legs on their tummy,

and say walk on.

-Walk on.

-Very good.

Walk on.

That's it. Little nudge with your legs. Well done.

OK. So, to make your ponies stop, you're going to lean backwards,

push your heels down, and say whoa!

-OK? BOTH:

-Whoa.

Good job.

Now we know how to stop and start the ponies,

we need to know how to steer.

So, to get our ponies to turn to the right,

you open your right hand out to the side with the rein

so that you turn your pony's nose to the right.

And give them a little squeeze with your left leg.

When we want our ponies to turn left, we do the opposite.

-Let's give it a go.

-Walk on.

So, we're going to open our right hand and leg out to the side.

That's it.

We led them in and out of cones.

-Let's see if we can go backwards. How does that sound?

-Good.

-Good.

We lean backwards slightly,

and push our feet forward like when we stopped.

We take a little pull on our reins, and say "back" to your ponies.

Then we make a clicky noise like... SHE CLICKS

Can you do it, make that noise?

BOTH CLICK That's it.

SHE CLICKS That's it, keep clicking.

HE CLICKS

-That's it, and then tell her to whoa, Dylan.

-Whoa.

Good.
