BOTH: Today, we're finding out what it's like to work on a tram!

Trams are a bit like trains.

They run on tracks and they take people from place to place.

But trams do something extra special.

They travel on streets through towns and cities.

Debbie works on the tram.

We're meeting her at the tram depot.

What happens with trams in the shed?

This is where we look after the trams

and get them ready to go out.

We're getting this tram ready.

I see you're dressed in your safety clothes.

-Are you ready to help?

Maddie, let's put these stickers up. What do you think they're for?

It's a map so people can see where we're going and where they are.

Right, it's all the different lines.

-Where on the map do you think we are?

-Near there.

-That's right.

This one is for somebody who's got a baby in their tummy,

who's got a child with them, and an old man or a lady.

On the window...

Make sure there's no bubbles.

-Not a single bubble.

-This is where we drive the tram from.

-What do all these buttons do?

This switch opens the doors for the passengers.

This one is for the windscreen wipers, when it rains.

And that one lets the sand out.

Why do you need sand?

When it's all slippy on the track, when it's raining,

it slows the tram down safely.

-What do the pedals do?

-They're a horn and a whistle.

Because the tram drives on streets, where there's lots of people,

we have to let them know that we are coming, and keep them safe.

-So can you test them for me?

-WHISTLE BLOWS

We need to clean the tram on the outside.

-Have you ever washed a car before?

-Once, I washed a car with my mum.

We got the sponge and we dipped it in water

and we put soap all on it

and then we dried it.

I go to a car wash.

Well, to wash a tram, it's a bit like going through a car wash.

But it's much bigger.

We're moving!

Look at this big brush!

BOTH: Whoa!

How good is that!

Is the tram ready for our trip now?

-Yes, it is.

-BOTH: Hooray!

If you're having a race with a tram and a car,

which one would go the fastest?

Well, the car would be the fastest.

But a tram can go very fast.

-That track looks complicated.

-It does look complicated!

Now it's Maddie's turn.
