BOTH: Today we're finding out how to look after sea creatures!

These sea creatures live in an aquarium.

We're meeting Joe who looks after them.

What kind of fish do you have here?

We've got over 1,000 fish in this tank.

We've got eight blacktipped reef sharks.

We've got five cownose stingrays and more than 250 porkfish.

How do you look after all the different sea creatures?

There is a lot that needs doing. Do either of you have pets?

-I've got a cat and a dog.

-How do you look after your cat and dog?

I make sure they are healthy and I feed them and give them water.

OK, it's exactly like that with the fish in our aquarium.

We make sure they are well fed all day so we give them lots of food.

We make sure their water is nice and clean and we make sure

they are generally happy and healthy all day.

There is one special animal I haven't told you about.

His name's Ernie and he is a giant green sea turtle.

How long do turtles live for?

Turtles live at least to 100 years old and some people

think they can get to 150.

Unfortunately, sea turtles are endangered. That means there

aren't many of them left so it's important we look after them.

-How do you feel about helping me look after Ernie today?

-Yes!

Excellent. First of all, we need to feed him. Come with me.

How come there is no meat?

Sea turtles do eat meat, but as they get older brains

they prefer vegetables.

-In the wild, they eat lots of sea grass.

-Do turtles have any teeth?

Sea turtles don't have teeth.

They have a beak, like a bird,

so they can bite their food but they can't chew it.

-BOTH: Done!

-Great, let's feed Ernie.

Here he comes. This is where we feed him. These are our tongs.

Pick up a piece of food and put it just next to his mouth.

LAUGHTER AND GIGGLING

Ernie gets fed three times a day. This is his lunch.

-So what did you think of feeding Ernie?

-It was good.

-Did you have fun?

-Awesome.

-Good.

So now we've fed him, we'll get into his tank

and make sure it's nice and clean.

Another important job, as well as making sure his tank is clean,

we make sure the water is warm enough for Ernie.

-Do you want to test the water using this?

-Yes.

-Just drop it in. Perfect.
