Today we're finding out all about creepy-crawlies.

Slithery snails and buzzing bees.

These curious bugs have tricks up their sleeves.

Caterpillars, cockroaches, beetles with big heads.

When it comes to mini beasts,

there's a lot to be said.

Let's get to those facts.

First off, butterflies can taste with their feet! Yummy.

A mummy butterfly flies about

looking for leaves to lay her eggs on.

But not any plant will do.

Some have juices that aren't safe for precious babies,

so the butterfly lands on lots of plants,

drumming them with their feet to release the juices.

By tasting the juice with special hairs on the bottom of their feet,

the butterfly can tell which plants are OK.

Then it's time to lay the eggs.

Home sweet home.

Next, the common garden worm

doesn't have just one heart.

Oh, no, it has five pairs of hearts.

A worm's blood has to travel a long way

round its skinny, stretched-out body,

so each pair of hearts swirls up and squeezes

to help push the blood along.

Ten hearts working together to get the job done.

That's a whole lot of love in one little worm.

Next up, spiders can make their own music.

Rock on!

And boy spiders use this tuneful skill to impress the ladies.

When a boy spider sees a girl spider that he likes,

he plucks his web like a guitar

and that makes sweet vibrations to win her heart.

And boys can even play different notes

by changing the shape and size of their web.

Now that's what I call a smooth operator.

And finally...

A flea can speed up faster than a space rocket.

For their size, fleas are the best jumpers in the animal world.

And they can do giant jumps because their bodies contain springy pads.

Fleas use these special springs to give their legs a massive kick.

And at the moment of launch,

they accelerate faster than a rocket.

But unlike a spaceship, fleas can't fly,

so they'll never get to space under their own steam.
