Today, we're going wild about animals.

Jake and Grace tell us what it's like to be a park keeper.

Down from the farm, JB and Storm are here with piggy pals.

We'll show you how to create rain clouds in an experiment.

And animal-loving Let's Go-ers create a wildlife corner.

-Hello, I'm Grace.

-And I'm Jake.

-Today we're going to be wildlife keepers.

-BOTH:

-Let's go!

A wildlife keeper is someone who looks after animals

in a wildlife park or zoo.

This is Lauren. She helps look after one really special animal.

Can you guess what they are? They have really long necks.

-Is it a giraffe?

-Giraffe.

-It is a giraffe. I've got a treat for you.

You're going to help pick up giraffe poo today. Here's your spades.

-What do you think it smells like in here?

-Stinky but it's all right.

That's nice. A lot of people think it's really smelly.

-Shall we pick up some poo? BOTH:

-Yeah.

Wonderful. Come this way.

This one's for you, Grace.

It's hard work but it's really good fun.

-'There's so much poo!'

-This is fun!

-Shall we put some nice fresh straw on their bed now?

-Yeah.

-Is it nice and squishy?

-Yeah. It's like a bouncy castle.

So it's nice and comfy for them to sleep on. They're heavy animals.

-Shall we go and do something else? BOTH:

-Yeah.

-Wonderful. Let's go!

-Do you know what these are?

-Stinging nettles.

They are. They love them.

Won't they sting the giraffes?

No, the skin inside a giraffe's mouth is tough.

Why do you put the nettles in metal balls?

In captivity, they don't work as hard for their food.

We put the nettles inside the balls and they have to

get the nettles out with their tongues through the gaps.

It makes them use their tongue like they're supposed to. It's a treat.

-Shall we get them something bigger to eat?

-Yeah.

We're at the plantation, where we get our fresh leaves for giraffes.

What type of trees do giraffes eat?

We're getting silver birch and willow, two of their favourites.

If I cut down trees, will you help me load them onto the vehicle?

-BOTH:

-Yeah.

-Let's go!

We're cutting a willow tree for them now. A favourite.

-Those leaves look tasty for the giraffes don't they, Grace?

-Yeah.

-Now that's done, it's time to eat.

-I'm not hungry.

It's not for you, Grace, it's for the giraffes.

Lauren hung up the nettle balls.

It's amazing!

We're holding the branch for the giraffe to eat.

He's so strong! Oh!

THEY LAUGH

There we go!

-Can you see their tongues?

-They're really long and wiggly.

-Can you see what colour their tongue is?

-Blue.

It's thought to be to protect the tongue against sunburn.

It's hot in the African savanna so they have a blue tongue.

Giraffe. Giraffey!

Have you both enjoyed your day as a zoo keeper at the wildlife park?

-Yeah.

-What's your favourite part?

I really enjoyed feeding the giraffes.

-Feeding the giraffe is much more fun than picking up their poo.

-Yeah.

Now, from the really tall to the very, very small.

We've come outside today to meet fabulous farm animals.

-So, who do we have here?

This is Colleen and these are her piglets.

Wow! Colleen has loads of piglets. Rio, how many does she have?

One, two, three, four, five.

Brilliant. Five. That's loads.

They are just beautiful and JB, Colleen is a special breed?

They're called saddleback pigs because they have special markings.

Who can tell me what colour they are?

-Georgia?

-Black with a white stripe at the front of their body.

Absolutely right.

Can you see them smelling the ground? Why?

To find food.

That's why - pigs have an excellent sense of smell.

They use their noses to smell food that's on the ground.

And their noses are called... Do you know what they're called?

-Snout.

-Snout.

-Absolutely.

-Well done.

-What do they eat?

The piglets drink milk from their mum.

But the mum likes to eat cereal or nut-based meals

and she likes vegetables and apples as a treat.

-Shall we feed her some apples?

-Yeah.

-Grab a piece.

-Rio, do you want to grab a piece?

-There.

-Shall we go and feed them?

-Go over to her.

-Let's go!

Zara had fun getting messy with glitter and paint

And Sophie is happy with carrots she's grown on her vegetable patch.

For me, I'd be a big elephant with a big trunk.

I'd be a dog because I have one and it goes woof, woof!

-I'd be a gorilla.

-Because they're fierce.

-Scary gorilla!

-I like being a cat cos they're soft.

All right. What do you call a camel without a hump?

-Don't know.

-TRANSLATION: My name is Lolulu.

-And my name's Malalua.

-We live in Africa.

-And we're part of the Maasai tribe.

Lolulu and me are going to ride a camel today.

We're riding to a river that's very far away.

We need to cross it cos on the other side, there's food for the camels.

We have to fasten the saddle tightly so we don't fall down.

Oh, dear! I'm afraid!

I've never ridden a camel before.

It's really high.

Look how dry everything is.

We need to go further and further to find green plants.

The sun is so hot. I hope we'll be there soon.

We're lucky because we can ride.

We could never have walked this far.

I'll never walk again, I'll only ride.

We finally reach the river. Now we have to cross it.

Now, we go to the river with the camels.

-First of all, camels should quench their thirst.

-It does them good.

And on the other side of the river, there's some good food for them.

We're lucky the water isn't deep. Camels are afraid of water.

And I hope none of them run away.

-But we like water.

-Yes, it works!

All the camels are able to cross the river.

We did a good job looking after them.

And none of the camels ran away.

And on the other side, they'll find enough to eat.

Great work, Let's Go-ers!

Your camels must be really thirsty after all that hard work

but I've got an excellent experiment to keep them cool.

It's rainbow rain clouds.

To do this excellent experiment,

mix a little bit of food colouring with water.

It's fun to use different colours,

but food colouring can stain so I'm wearing an apron

but you could wear some old clothes.

Fill a large clear container with water...

..almost all the way to the top.

Add a good amount of shaving cream on top of the water.

And this is going to make your clouds.

Put a little bit of the coloured water on top of the clouds.

And watch it rain!

What an excellent experiment! Why don't you have a go?

Now, green-fingered Megan and her friends got in touch cos

they want to say, "We Did This".

I'm Megan and this is my little brother, Luke.

-These are our friends, Poppy and Daisy.

-We like animals.

In the summer, we made a bee house for our allotment.

Mum helped to cut out a plastic bottle.

We filled it with bamboo sticks.

If you like animals, here's something you can do.

-We're making a hedgehog house.

-Let's make it!

We had help cutting out a door in the basket.

Which is normally used for hanging flowers.

-It's made of coconut shells.

-And here's the door for the hedgehogs!

We put this metal frame on to make it stronger.

This straw will make a nice cosy bed for the hedgehogs.

And we're making tasty treats for the birds too.

These are made from lard and birdseed.

And we made them into star shapes!

It's time to take everything to the allotment.

We have to put a bag on top of the house

so it doesn't get wet.

And we put heavy things on it, so it doesn't fly away.

And we put grass on it to make the hedgehogs feel at home.

We put the straw bed down for the hedgehogs too.

Now, our hedgehog house is open for business!

Daisy and Luke put up the bird treats.

I did it!

We love animals and we did this!
