Hello, Treasure Champs. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
I've just been watching Barry play for his team. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
We lost. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
It doesn't matter, Barry. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
It was my fault, I let all the goals in. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:46
I don't understand why you're so sad, just forget about it. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
I can't. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
Why not? It's just a game. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
BARRY SIGHS | 0:00:55 | 0:00:56
You're not showing a lot of empathy, Kari. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
Empathy? | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
Yes, it's today's treasure. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
Empathy means putting yourself in someone else's shoes. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:07
Er, no, not that. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
I don't mean you actually WEAR someone else's shoes, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
it means you try to feel what it's like being another person. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:20
Oh! That makes sense! | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
# What, what, what, what What do you think? | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
# What, what, what, what What do you say? | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
-# What does it mean? -What do you do | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
# About this treasure? | 0:01:38 | 0:01:39
# It's over to you! # | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
I think empathy means that, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
like, when someone is worried or sad, then you know how they feel. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:52
I felt empathy when my friend's cat died | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
and I went to his house and cheered him up. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
When I see someone else happy, that makes me feel happy. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:01
Empathy is imagining how somebody else feels. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so I'm nice to people. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:10
When one of my friends hurt themselves, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
then I felt sad because they felt sad. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
If you consider someone else's feelings, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
that means you understand how other people feel. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
Don't come near me, I'm feeling sad. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
Hey-hey! | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
KARI LAUGHS | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
Oh, Kari, you just don't understand how I'm feeling. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:36
But I really want to play with you and you're being so grumpy! | 0:02:36 | 0:02:41
It's not very fair on me! | 0:02:41 | 0:02:42
I was the goalkeeper and I let in all the goals. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
Are you still upset about that?! | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
I wish there was a way of showing you what happened. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
Ooh! | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55 | |
A TV remote? | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
How is watching TV going to help? | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
It's a special remote control, it will help you understand how I feel. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:05
I knew it would come in handy. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
Oof! | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16 | |
Ooh! | 0:03:17 | 0:03:18 | |
Ohh... | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
-Oh! Oh, no! -KARI LAUGHS | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
Oh, Barry! You are funny, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
diving around all over the place! | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
Oof! | 0:03:31 | 0:03:32 | |
Oh, no. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37
Poor Barry. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:38
I'm sorry you lost the game. I think I know why you feel sad now. | 0:03:40 | 0:03:44
Thanks, Kari. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:46
I tell you what, shall I just stay with you until you feel better? | 0:03:46 | 0:03:51
That would be nice! | 0:03:51 | 0:03:52
I feel a bit better just knowing that you understand. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:56
Oh, I know what will really cheer you up! | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
-Another funny costume? -No! | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
A story about a Treasure Champ who was brilliant at showing empathy. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:07
Hello, Treasure Champs. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:12
I'm Gemma and we are here to tell you the story of the Good Samaritan. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:16
Go on, you two, run ahead. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
One day, a Jewish man was going on a journey. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
He set off on a path. He was on his way to another town. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:33
But then... | 0:04:33 | 0:04:34
It was going to be a long, hard journey. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
It was a dangerous path, known to have robbers and bandits. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:45
Uh-oh, the robbers spotted the traveller | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
and decided to steal his things. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
Argh! | 0:04:56 | 0:04:57 | |
GEMMA GIGGLES | 0:04:57 | 0:04:59
Ha-ha-ha-ha! | 0:04:59 | 0:05:01
THEY BOTH LAUGH | 0:05:04 | 0:05:07
Ouch! The man was hurt and couldn't walk any further. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:15
He was left at the side of the path, all alone. | 0:05:15 | 0:05:20
But then he saw someone coming. | 0:05:20 | 0:05:22
It was a religious man from the temple. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:25
The traveller thought, | 0:05:25 | 0:05:26
"This man must be good and kind and is sure to stop and help me." | 0:05:26 | 0:05:31
Help! | 0:05:31 | 0:05:32 | |
But the religious man didn't. | 0:05:34 | 0:05:37
In fact, he crossed over to the other side of the path | 0:05:37 | 0:05:40
and carried on walking by. | 0:05:40 | 0:05:42
But then along came another man, a man who was rich and important, | 0:05:42 | 0:05:46
so once again the traveller cried out for help. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:50
Help me, please! | 0:05:50 | 0:05:51
But he didn't stop to help, either. He did nothing - | 0:05:53 | 0:05:57
he just carried on walking by on the other side of the path. | 0:05:57 | 0:06:00
The traveller was beginning to give up hope. | 0:06:00 | 0:06:04
Why was no-one stopping to help him? | 0:06:04 | 0:06:06
But just then... | 0:06:06 | 0:06:08
..another man came along. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:12
"Uh-oh," thought the traveller, "This man won't help me, | 0:06:12 | 0:06:17
"I'm Jewish and he's a Samaritan. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:19
"Jews and Samaritans don't like each other." | 0:06:19 | 0:06:22
But, to his surprise, the Samaritan did stop to help. | 0:06:22 | 0:06:27
He could see that the traveller was hurt and decided to help him. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:32
The Samaritan had empathy for the traveller. | 0:06:32 | 0:06:35
He thought how horrible it must have been | 0:06:35 | 0:06:37
to be attacked and left on the path. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:40
The Samaritan washed and bandaged the injured traveller | 0:06:40 | 0:06:44
and then they both set off, looking for shelter. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:47
Eventually, they found an inn | 0:06:47 | 0:06:49
where the Samaritan paid for the traveller to be looked after. | 0:06:49 | 0:06:53
The Samaritan even said that he would come back another day | 0:06:53 | 0:06:57
and check that the traveller was OK. | 0:06:57 | 0:07:01
Isn't that amazing? | 0:07:01 | 0:07:03
That one man's act of empathy has been told so many times | 0:07:03 | 0:07:06
that now, if somebody does something kind for a stranger, | 0:07:06 | 0:07:10
they are often called a Good Samaritan. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:12
That's a story that Jesus told and it's found in the Bible. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
Thank you for helping me tell today's treasure story. | 0:07:16 | 0:07:19
-We'll see you again soon. Bye. -Bye! -Bye! | 0:07:19 | 0:07:22
That Samaritan was such a Treasure Champ! | 0:07:23 | 0:07:27
Oops! | 0:07:27 | 0:07:28 | |
Oh! Oh! I'm using empathy. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:31
I can feel that you are feeling hungry. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:36
A-hem, maybe. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:37
THEY LAUGH | 0:07:37 | 0:07:40
Let's see how you Treasure Champs show empathy. | 0:07:40 | 0:07:44
# How, how, how, how How do you do it? | 0:07:49 | 0:07:51
# How, how, how, how How does it feel? | 0:07:51 | 0:07:54
-# How does it look? -What you do | 0:07:54 | 0:07:56
# About this treasure? | 0:07:56 | 0:07:58
# It's over to you! # | 0:07:58 | 0:07:59
Hello, I'm Umazara. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:09
Hello, I'm Isai. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:11
We love coming to the canal with our mums. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:15
And today we are visiting a museum. | 0:08:17 | 0:08:19
We are going to find out what it was like | 0:08:19 | 0:08:23
being a child from 100 years ago. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
These are the clothes children wore back in Victorian times. | 0:08:27 | 0:08:33
Look at the blocks of butter! | 0:08:33 | 0:08:35
It's fun looking around and finding out | 0:08:36 | 0:08:40
how people lived a long time ago. | 0:08:40 | 0:08:42
Hello, girls. Come on in. Come and look at my house. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:45
-Do you like it in here? -Yes. | 0:08:45 | 0:08:47
-Have you got a room like this in your house? -Yes. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:50
-What do you call your room? -The living room. -The living room! | 0:08:50 | 0:08:54
Well, this is my parlour and this is where we come to relax. | 0:08:54 | 0:08:57
We haven't got a TV. In the olden days there was no TV. | 0:08:57 | 0:09:01
They don't have even toys? | 0:09:01 | 0:09:03
-They've got some toys, yes. -Have you got some shoes? | 0:09:03 | 0:09:06
We've got some shoes, yes, | 0:09:06 | 0:09:08
but we haven't got anything that plugs in. | 0:09:08 | 0:09:11
So we do songs at the piano, | 0:09:11 | 0:09:12
we'll play songs and sing songs at the piano instead. | 0:09:12 | 0:09:16
Do you want to have a try? Come and have a try on my piano. | 0:09:16 | 0:09:20
Come this way, girls, and I'm going to get you to help me with my jobs. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:28
So, here we are outside, this is my yard. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:33
You can see my toilet in the corner if you want a look. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:36
It's a bit cold in the winter and it might have spiders. | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
-Do you not like the look of it? -There's ants and smell! | 0:09:39 | 0:09:43
Of course there are, it's an outside toilet! | 0:09:43 | 0:09:45
Come on, we'll get this washing done. | 0:09:45 | 0:09:48
Children had tough jobs to do in Victorian times. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:51
That looks like hard work. | 0:09:55 | 0:09:57
Everything was very different a long time ago. | 0:09:57 | 0:10:01
But it's good to find out what it was like. | 0:10:01 | 0:10:04
And how it felt. | 0:10:04 | 0:10:05
-Thank you for coming and for your help with the chores. Bye. -Bye. -Bye. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:10
We had a good time learning about the past. | 0:10:13 | 0:10:16
I'm happy that I live now and not in Victorian times. | 0:10:16 | 0:10:21
I'm Megan and this is Emily and we love coming to Brownies. | 0:10:29 | 0:10:35
# We're Brownie Guides We're Brownie Guides | 0:10:35 | 0:10:37
# We're here to lend a hand... # | 0:10:37 | 0:10:39
We've got some great friends here. We always have lots of fun. | 0:10:39 | 0:10:43
# ..We're Brownie friends We're Brownie friends | 0:10:43 | 0:10:46
# From North, South East and West. # Whoo! | 0:10:46 | 0:10:49
Today, we are going to play some games. | 0:10:49 | 0:10:52
The first game we're going to do is a balloon game. | 0:10:52 | 0:10:55
-OK, here's your balloons. -The first team to get their balloon | 0:10:55 | 0:10:59
to the end of their line are the winners! | 0:10:59 | 0:11:02
Go! Right, come on, over, under! | 0:11:02 | 0:11:06
Move in! | 0:11:07 | 0:11:09
We won! Hooray! | 0:11:18 | 0:11:20
This game is quite tricky. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:25
We have to cross the swamp, which is the floor, without falling in. | 0:11:28 | 0:11:35
Pass that stone down, Elly, pass it down! | 0:11:35 | 0:11:38
The first team to get everyone across wins. | 0:11:38 | 0:11:42
Watch out for the crocodile! | 0:11:44 | 0:11:46
So close! | 0:11:49 | 0:11:50
Emily's team lost that game | 0:11:53 | 0:11:56
and, because she might be feeling sad, | 0:11:56 | 0:11:59
I'm going to give her a high-five. | 0:11:59 | 0:12:02
Look at that! | 0:12:04 | 0:12:07
Yes, Megan is showing she understands how her friend feels. | 0:12:07 | 0:12:12
That's great friendship. | 0:12:12 | 0:12:14
That's great empathy. | 0:12:14 | 0:12:17
Holly is feeling happy and proud because she won. | 0:12:20 | 0:12:23
I know she's feeling like that | 0:12:23 | 0:12:25
because that's how I felt when my team won. | 0:12:25 | 0:12:29
Right, girls, I think you've done really well tonight. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:33
You've worked well within your teams and you've done well | 0:12:33 | 0:12:37
really thinking about the other teams when they haven't won. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:41
It's been great playing with my friends. | 0:12:41 | 0:12:44
It doesn't matter who won the games, we all had lots of fun. | 0:12:44 | 0:12:48
Wow! | 0:12:50 | 0:12:52 | |
You Treasure Champs are brilliant at showing empathy. | 0:12:52 | 0:12:56
Right, let's do some practice for next time. | 0:12:56 | 0:12:59
Ready? | 0:12:59 | 0:13:00
Woohoo! You did it, Barry! | 0:13:08 | 0:13:11
-Thanks, Kari, I feel... -Oh, don't tell me! | 0:13:11 | 0:13:14
I can use empathy. | 0:13:14 | 0:13:17
I can tell that you feel... happy again. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:21
Yay! | 0:13:21 | 0:13:23 | |
THEY LAUGH | 0:13:23 | 0:13:25
Bye, Treasure Champs! | 0:13:25 | 0:13:27
Bye, Treasure Champs! | 0:13:27 | 0:13:29
