Basketball Twin It to Win It

-And I'm Amelia.

-And we're identical twins!

And we're 11 years old.

This summer, we've been competing in the National Dwarf Games.

Today's the final day and we're going for gold in basketball.

Wow! You're very tall!

This will be our first team event.

And we'll be playing on different teams.

Let's have a match.

-Girls v Boys.

-Two against one.

Pass!

Amelia, pass! Pass!

'The trouble is, teamwork isn't our strongest point.'

Amelia, pass!

'Come on, Amelia, pass the ball, then!

'Shut up, Imogen, it's really hard!'

'I told you to pass!'

Wow, you guys really need to work on your teamwork.

We're going head-to-head at the Games

but, for now, to learn about teamwork,

we are going to have to work together.

Amelia, MY teamwork's fine!

It's YOUR teamwork that needs work.

We've come to meet

some of the best basketball players in the country.

-Imagine being able to play like that!

We need some help with teamwork

-because me and Amelia aren't that good at it.

-So, teamwork is

very important in basketball.

You can't do it by yourself, OK? We're going to work on that today.

What you are going to try and do is try and score against us two.

You can do whatever you want, but you can't pass to your sister.

'No matter how hard I try, I just can't get past them.'

Now, you can pass. So, us two are going to stay marking you,

but your sister is going to be wide open, OK?

'Ah, this seems to be working!'

All right, not bad, not bad, not bad.

But do you guys see how easy that was when you pass to each other?

-So, shall we play a bit?

'You're supposed to be practising teamwork, Imogen!

'What have we just been taught?

'We're not really getting this whole teamwork thing, are we?

'The only way we're going to score...is by cheating!'

We're here to meet Dexter from the 4 O'Clock Club.

Amelia, it's Jason! That's his character name.

Anyway, because he works in a huge TV show,

he knows a lot about teamwork.

Ah, teamwork! After you!

Jason plays Dexter in CBBC's 4 O'Clock Club.

We love that show.

So, I hear you guys need some help with teamwork.

-Do you two ever argue?

-Yes.

-Yes.

-What about?

-Everything.

Sometimes we would argue about who starts the argument.

Really? Wow!

-Amelia, do you start most of the fights?

-No!

No!

-No!

-(Yes.)

No!

-Are you starting a fight right now?

-No!

See, this right here, bad teamwork.

So now it's time for Jason's Cheeky Challenge.

My mate owns this place

and I want you two to help run the shop while he's out, OK?

So I just want you to serve some customers,

give them the ice cream and give them some big, cheeky smiles, OK?

And make sure you work as a team.

Do you reckon we're going to be able to do this?

Whoa! Look at all these customers!

What would you like?

'I don't even know what mint choc chip looks like!

'How are we supposed to find it?'

This is terrible!

-Is this vanilla?

-Oh, no!

'This is chaos, Amelia!

'The orders are piling in.'

-There you go.

-This isn't what I wanted.

It's not what I ordered.

'Imogen, it's a disaster!'

Guys, what are you doing?

Everybody in the shop is absolutely livid.

This is the worst bit of teamwork I've ever seen!

Sort it out! How can you make this better?

BOTH: Work together?

-Working together.

-As a team.

-Listening?

-Yes.

-All right. Do you want me to give you a hand?

-Yes!

-All right, come on, then.

'At last, we've got a plan.

'One of us gets the orders, which was me,

then Imogen gets the ice cream.'

His advice really did work to help us work together.

'Ah, OK, now it's finally starting to sink in

'that working together pays off.'

'Look at all these happy customers!'

So, how do you think that went?

At first, it was, like, bad.

But then we, like, worked as a team

and we got our customers happy.

Ah, good!

I think my basketball team is going to do really well.

No, obviously, mine is.

-No, mine is.

-No, it's not!

We've been competing in lots of sports at the Dwarf Games.

Today is the final event - basketball.

And all of our practice seems to have paid off.

Both of our teams have made it to the final.

But only one of us will be able to take home the gold.

'I was very determined. We need to win this.'

I want to beat my sister.

We are competing against my sister next and we need to beat her.

We need to get a gold medal and beat her.

ALL: Three, two, one, yay!

It was quite a big deal

because I was playing against my sister.

I really, really wanted to win.

'Here goes!'

Right from the start, everyone is really up for it

and our team-mates are great at working together.

My Green team make a fast break.

Score!

When we got our first basket, it was really exciting

because we knew we were ahead.

We were just losing and we knew we had to try our hardest

and we played really well.

An interception puts Imogen's Blues right back into the game.

We are drawing now and it's either win or lose.

Half-time. Things are getting tense.

Right, guys, brilliant.

I want that positive attitude again in the second half.

Very good play, all of you.

You're working as a team and communicating well.

-Everyone is having fun, aren't they?

-ALL: Yes!

Come on, team!

The second half is just as exciting.

First, Amelia's team scores.

Then Imogen's hit back.

Leaving us tied 2-2.

It was so stressful because it was so close.

I tried to remember everything we had been taught about teamwork

and passed to my team-mates.

Result!

That was a pretty good pass, Amelia.

Imogen's Blues fight back.

But we steal the ball.

And it's there!

4-2 as time runs out.

WHISTLE BLOWS

I was quite happy for them, but I was only that much happy for them.

And I was very sad because I just wanted to get the medal.

Silver goes to the Blue team

and gold goes to the Green team.

We've come so far from the beginning of our training.

And now that the Games are over, we both have learnt so much

from everyone we've met.

We're home after the Games

and Amelia's feeling pretty pleased with herself.

Gold medal from the basketball,

just another medal for my discus.

One, two, three.

I've got so many, I can't count them all!

She might have beaten me this year,

but next time, I'll be prepared and I'll be the winner!
