Hundreds of trainers from all over the UK applied to come on this show,

but I could only pick three to do today's trick.

And it's a very difficult trick today,

so I hope you've chosen some really clever dogs.

Not only have I chosen three clever dogs,

I've also chosen three amazing trainers.

Reef and Fatam, Ellie and Ruby

and Genevieve and Monty Zoom are brilliant.

Let's take a look at their Try-Outs.

At the Try-Outs dozens of dogs and their trainers were hoping to

impress Ashleigh to get to The Dog House.

Wow, well done.

And get their paws on the ultimate prize -

the Top Dog Trainer trophy.

The competition was fierce.

That is amazing.

And Reef and Fatam from Surrey gave it their all to impress Ashleigh.

but made it all the way to the semifinals.

It's Day 1 of Training and time for Ashleigh

to introduce our trainers to dog expert Steve

who will reveal their stunt.

-Hi, guys.

-Hi, gang.

-This is Steve, our expert dog trainer.

-Hello.

Our challenge for you today is a really exciting and fun one.

Today you're going to start teaching your dogs how to stand on two legs.

And...

..push this along also.

Yes, but that's not everything though, is it, Steve?

No, it's a little bit trickier than that.

For this stunt your dogs are going to have to learn how to

stand on two legs,

push the trolley along the course

and fill it with groceries along the way.

At Showtime teams will get points for the groceries

in the trolley at the end.

To start off with you're going to play fetch with your dog,

and rather than bring the toy back to your hand

you're going to encourage him to place it into the basket.

Gradually I want you to raise the basket a little higher each time.

Then you're going to place the basket into the trolley.

Encourage him to pick up the toy.

Toy into the trolley.

And you'll be flying by that stage.

I'm going to shoot off.

When the trolley push trick was revealed

I was a bit nervous cos I knew she doesn't fetch very well.

Ellie and Ruby,

see if you can get it as close as or in the basket as possible.

Ah, now, here's a dog that likes her toys.

Give her a treat for that.

And it might help her a little bit if you pick the basket up as well.

Ellie and Ruby are off to a good start.

Being at The Dog House now is really fun.

When the trick was revealed I wasn't sure about it

because there was fetching involved, but she did better than I thought.

It's Genevieve and Monty Zoom next.

Are they going to be as brilliant as they were last year?

What I would do is for the first time maybe give him

a treat for just dropping it by it.

So he's getting something out of it.

With a challenge as complicated as this, Ellie, Reef

and even Genevieve will need all the practice they can get.

Now, occasionally Pudsey steals food.

Not often, but sometimes.

But these pinching pooches that you're about to see

are really something else.

Some mischievous dogs have a habit of pinching things,

but why do they do it?

I mean, why would a Labrador need gloves?

Now, stealing cake I can understand, but look, he's not greedy,

he's left two for his human.

Stealing a sledge when someone is actually using it is brazen.

And done purely to embarrass his victim.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for this team.

She doesn't want to pick it up or play with it.

She doesn't want to play with anything.

What about going right back to basics,

maybe teaching her to go and touch something?

As soon as she goes sniffs it or checks it out

then you give her a treat.

-Does she do clicker training?

-Yeah.

-Have you got your clicker with you?

-Yeah.

Wondering what a clicker is? Well, listen up.

Dog trainers use a clicky thing to tell their dog

they've done something right.

They click, give a treat

and the dog soon learns that a click means a treat is on its way.

Well, Fatam's showing a bit more interest.

So there's hope this team might learn to fetch after all.

You have to keep doing that over and over again

until she learns what she's got to do

and then you start doing it where she has to figure out

that she needs to put it in her mouth.

Hm, I have a feeling this could take a very long time.

It looks like you are doing absolutely brilliant here.

After the first day of training

Genevieve and Monty Zoom are streets ahead,

but there's still time for the others to catch up

-if they work hard.

-Ruby, in.

Get it.

Fatam, Ruby and Monty Zoom are all small in size.

But let's take a look at their Mutt Measurements

to see what makes them unique in their own way.

Monty Zoom is

a three-year-old Papillon.

Papillon means butterfly in French.

That's because their big fan-like ears

make them look like a butterfly.

Papillons are often

very intelligent

and Monty Zoom knows over

25 commands in English.

And even some in Spanish.

So with brains like that he should

have no trouble with this challenge.

Next up is Ruby,

a four-year-old Yorkshire terrier.

Yorkshire terriers are one of

the smallest breeds.

Ellie is on a mission to prove that

Ruby is more than just

a handbag dog.

Yorkies are usually clever little

dogs with a lot of stamina.

So if Ruby is true to her breed

she could go a long way

in this competition.

Fatam is less than one year old,

and is a cross between

a Pekingese and a poodle.

Sometimes known as a Pekapoo.

She loves to watch TV

and often barks at the screen.

Pekingese are usually plucky little

dogs, and poodles are clever,

so if Fatam is a bit of both

she should have no problems

with this challenge.

It's Training Day 2 and with Showtime just one week

away, our teams have been practising hard.

Ruby's been doing quite well at putting the shopping in

the trolley, but she struggles with the carrot cos it's a bit too big.

I'm feeling quite confident.

Today on my training session I'm going to focus on

putting it all together.

Good boy.

Training's been going really well at home.

My dog's starting to get the toys in the basket,

she couldn't even do that before.

Fatam's fetching toys.

I can't believe it.

Steve, I've been having a chat with these guys

and I've got a little surprise for you.

I've heard that all your dogs are able to push the trolley along now.

Serious?

Push the trolley along?

But they've not even learned that yet.

No way, get out of town. OK, I want to see this.

Reef and Fatam first.

How did you actually get her into the toys?

If I remember correctly,

Fatam wouldn't even go anywhere near the toys, would she?

We first started off by, she was just touching them

and then I gave her a treat.

When I'm picking them up, it was all like a slow process.

What I just want to see is a bit of a trolley push.

Ruby is much better at pushing the trolley than fetching the groceries.

They're miles ahead from where I thought they were going to be.

All I want you to worry about now is

just building those components together.

So it's your fetch, load your groceries into the trolley,

push the trolley and just repeat the process.

the teams are making the most of their last-minute opportunity

to train with Ashleigh.

Ruby, up.

Ellie and Ruby have the most work to do.

While Reef and Fatam are back in the game.

The firm favourites Genevieve and Monty Zoom

are still looking like the ones to beat.

Teaching your dog to do some grocery shopping is not only fun

but useful too.

Here are four steps on how to do it.

Step 1 - play fetch with your dog

and encourage them to drop the grocery into the basket.

Step 2 - raise the basket higher and higher.

Step 3 - place the basket in the trolley

and encourage your dog to drop the grocery into it.

Step 4 - encourage your dog to put two paws on the trolley,

and using a treat, lure them forward so they push the trolley along.

Remember, don't overdo it and give your dog plenty of rest.

Today we're going to be showing you how to teach your dog to touch.

I'm going to be using my touch stick.

I'm going to be using my clicker as well.

Come on then, Puds. Good boy.

Well done, that's good.

Got to make sure that you get your click

and treat in as soon as they just look at your mark.

Ready, steady...

Once they understand that they're getting that click

and the treat for taking an interest in that mark

you can start asking the dog to actually touch it with their nose.

and the treat for making contact with your mark

you can start brining in your command.

Then you can start asking for the duration,

so do one second, two seconds, three seconds.

I have no idea how long Pudsey can go for, but it's pretty long,

so make sure you give it a go at home.

We all know that dogs are often called man's best friend

and best friends do everything together.

But some dog owners take this to a whole new level.

Take a look at this.

Most dogs like to spend their time chasing balls and digging holes.

But not Harry.

Harry prepares to take to the skies for some paragliding.

Yes, you heard me.

Harry the ten-year-old collie is a paragliding pooch.

This daring dog got into his unusual hobby through his owner Tony.

With the help of a special harness,

Tony decided to see if Harry would like to come on a flying adventure.

And guess what? He did.

Tony says that now Harry loves paragliding so much that

when he sees the harness he starts barking with excitement.

Well, that's one way to exercise your dog.

Two weeks of intensive trolley training are over.

And it's time for our three teams to compete

for a place in the semifinals.

With just one place up for grabs the pressure is on.

I don't have many tactics for today.

Just to get through the trick as quick as I can

and as best that I can.

Who will push their way to victory?

I'm quite confident that I can make it through to the semifinal.

I did last year, so hopefully I will again.

And who will be pushed out of the competition?

I'm not feeling that confident because she's a bit unpredictable.

The worst thing that could happen at Showtime is

if she won't do anything.

and this is where it's going to take place.

Our dogs have three minutes to try

and push their trolley along this course as quickly as possible.

Not only that they have these lovely groceries to pick up along the way.

We have some grapes and we have lovely water bottles.

A bit of everything.

The groceries are all worth different points

and can only be collected by the dogs

when all four wheels of the trolley have been pushed into an aisle.

Ashleigh and Steve will be watching very closely

and the team with the most points will be the winner.

First up it's Genevieve and Monty Zoom.

This team have been at The Dog House before

and have been firm favourites to win since training began.

Another solid performance now and victory will surely be theirs.
