Kicking off our reminiscent ramble through 2017

with his favourite show of the year, it's the one,

the only, Myles and his Christmas jumper. He's wacky.

This year is coming to an end so it's time to take a little

look back. Ah, don't look back.

Time to have a look back at one of my favourite shows this year,

Whoops I Missed The... Horrible Histories.

It's Horrible Histories.

Yeah, Myles here from News.

Why is that your favourite show this year?

Well, person who looks like me,

if I ever find myself at a party making a conversation,

I've actually caught myself just reciting facts

that I've learnt from Horrible Histories,

passing off that information as if it's just,

"Oh, these are just things I just know, I'm a clever boy."

If a conversation just stops and suddenly gets awkward, "Cavemen...

"..do you like them?"

Food, yum. I love food.

Such a foodie.

Erm, that's paint made from charcoal and beetles' blood.

Yeah, and the cave paintings,

they were made from charcoal and beetles' blood so...

Didn't you get that from Horrible Histories?

Er...

No, person at a party, it's Awful Ancient Times.

-My own one.

-I haven't heard of that.

Well, no, cos it's been changed,

they've changed it to A Pretty Poor Past.

-Is that a real one?

-No, it's called The Good Old Days...

..Or Not.

No, yes, I am just telling you things I've learned from

Horrible Histories. Please don't tell CBBC.

This isn't recording, is it? Is that going to them?

I mean, this is art for art's sake.

The first time the nascent human is crying out, look at me.

That did make me wonder what the first-ever conversation

might have been. I imagine it was when a caveman

wanted to address something awkward that had happened

between another caveman and they were just like...

"Can we talk?"

"Er... Yeah?"

-"What?"

-"I don't know what this is."

"Let's just ignore it. Walk that way, walk different ways."

I love the idea as well that even when cavemen were about,

art was being made. Cave paintings were probably like

the first-ever art galleries in a way.

You'd walk around a cave in silence with your arms

behind your back, nodding slowly as if you're taking it all in,

pretending to know what it could possibly all mean.

"Oh, the red strokes here on the cave wall,

"they're vibrant yet hollow, they're loud yet quiet."

"That was a picture of a mammoth I started doing, Steve."

"Well, it's a good mammoth is what I'm saying. Can I buy it?"

"You want to buy the cave wall? You can't buy a cave wall, Steve.

"Are you all right?" "Sorry, I started speaking yesterday

"and it's really confusing. Can I at least sort of buy that printed

"like on a tote bag or a mug? Do you do it on mugs?

"Do it on bookmarks?"

When you go to paint something you may worry,

"Well, what is my style here?"

Even if you don't have a style, maybe that is your style?

At least that's what I tell myself when I'm filming this.

The problem is, there are so many new and unusual styles of art

that it's hard to know which one to choose.

I think that's why Horrible Histories

is my favourite show this year just cos I've learnt a lot.

There's so many different styles of art.

-There's Impressionism.

-That's Mickey Mouse. There's Minimalism. Erm...

Not really much to say about that one.

And one of my favourite art styles, Surrealism,

where I'd have like 12 mouths now

and my arms would be made entirely of apples.

So that was an episode all about art from the past

but I just wonder what art in the future will look like.

But my favourite part of the show, 100%, definitely has to be...

Poo is the most important daily part of daily life at the zoo.

More than two tonnes of poo are produced every single day.

Two tonnes? Wow!

Wait, excuse me, are we still talking about poo?

My favourite part of The Zoo is actually...

But, unfortunately, things haven't ended so well for Jurgen.

Now, this year has flown by faster than that bus does

when I'm late for my tea.

2017 saw some spectacular events and wonderful achievements

and Newsround was there to document it all.

2017 was a great year for some people, including Donald Trump,

who, in a special ceremony called an inauguration,

was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America

in January.

Another winner this year was Adele who scooped five Grammy Awards

in February, including Record of the Year for her song Hello.

In March, Ed Sheeran's Divide became the fastest selling album

by a male artist in the UK ever.

I think Ed Sheeran's popular because he doesn't act like he's a pop star,

he just acts like he's a random person.

In April, Peggy Whitson became the first US astronaut

to spend the most time in space, a staggering 535 days.

Earth, this is Penny Whitson on board

the International Space Station.

When she set off on this mission, she was 56,

making her the oldest woman to journey to space.

What an inspiration.

In May, it was time for lots of flamboyant fun

with the Eurovision Song Contest.

For the first time ever, Portugal were the winners.

Amazing! Amazing! We deserved it.

In June, it was all about politics as Prime Minister Theresa May

called for a general election.

In July, there was big news for Doctor Who fans

as the 13th Doctor was announced.

Jodie Whittaker became the first woman to play the role

of the Doctor, taking charge of the TARDIS on Christmas Day.

Big Ben fell silent in August, as major repairs are taking place

on this iconic clock tower that are expected to last until 2021.

However, it will still chime on special occasions

like New Year's Eve and Remembrance Sunday.

In September, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge

announced that they were expecting their third child.

Buckingham Palace said the Queen was delighted by the news.

An unusual reddish sky and red looking sun

were reported in October of this year.

We had Hurricane Ophelia,

it's bringing in a lot of Saharan dust

and some smoke from forest fires in Portugal.

Children In Need raised over £50 million during their live show

in November, smashing the record for the most money raised on the night.

In December, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their wedding

will be held in May 2018.

And that was the news for 2017.

What a year it was. Well done, Newsround.
