/It's Watchdog. The programme you Yes, hello and good evening. | :00:53. | :00:57.
Welcome to Watchdog, we are live from Television Centre. Tonight: | :00:57. | :01:01.
The Vauxhall Insignia, what caused this one to burst into flames? | :01:01. | :01:04.
There were two, maybe three large bangs that could have been tyres, | :01:04. | :01:12.
because a lot of the car was melted to the pave. -- pavement. The Fire | :01:12. | :01:16.
Brigade said two minutes and nothing would have been left. | :01:16. | :01:20.
NatWest, big rates for borrowers, tiny rates for safers. | :01:20. | :01:26.
Plus, ASDA cutting the prices? Or are they breaking the rules? The | :01:26. | :01:30.
rollbacks that don't add up. And Royal Mail that has raised the | :01:30. | :01:36.
cost of stamps. What service do we get in return No stamp of approval | :01:36. | :01:41.
for tonight's rogues, they have charged us thousands to refurbish | :01:41. | :01:47.
roofs, did a rotten job and remove tiles like this. We did get a high- | :01:47. | :01:52.
wire act thrown in, though. My heart is in the hands, standing | :01:52. | :01:59.
on the ridge, precariously balanced, if that is not an accident waiting | :01:59. | :02:03.
to happen, I don't know what is. Yes, TV without a safety net. | :02:03. | :02:09.
Vauxhall, the top-selling family car, the Vauxhall Insignia crowned | :02:09. | :02:13.
European Car Of The Year, 12 months after the launch. | :02:13. | :02:23.
:02:23. | :02:24. | ||
ADVERTISEMENT: The technology, depth, the speed what else can it | :02:24. | :02:29.
do? It can lose power while steering, if you are one of the | :02:29. | :02:35.
unlucky ones. Plus the engines could start to smoke or also burst | :02:35. | :02:39.
in flames, according to some experts. Martin bought his Vauxhall | :02:39. | :02:45.
Insignia in ape, 2010. By May 2011, the 21,000 vehicle looked like. | :02:45. | :02:49.
This I was driving to Dorset for a | :02:49. | :02:53.
weekend away. A car pulled alongside me to they will me that | :02:53. | :02:59.
there were flames coming out of the back of the car. Once the fire took | :02:59. | :03:03.
hold, the front was unGulf in flames. The car began to melt | :03:03. | :03:08.
around the sides and the front. There was two, or maybe even three | :03:08. | :03:11.
large bangs that could have been tyres, because a lot of the car was | :03:11. | :03:16.
melted to the pavement. The Fire Brigade went two more minutes and | :03:16. | :03:24.
there would not be anything left. We are in shock, my wife and I, on | :03:24. | :03:29.
the embankment, head in hands, the thought of what could have happened. | :03:29. | :03:34.
Although Martin and his wife were badly shaken, neither were hurt. | :03:34. | :03:39.
The car, however, was a complete write-off. So what caused this | :03:39. | :03:42.
Vauxhall Insignia to so dramatically burst into flames? | :03:42. | :03:45.
This was the reason given by Vauxhall over the phone. | :03:45. | :03:49.
They said that the pipe on the power steering had come off and the | :03:49. | :03:56.
fluid has dropped on to the diesel particle filter and ignited. | :03:56. | :04:02.
Apparently the filter gets hot. Vauxhall commissioned a forensic | :04:02. | :04:08.
report. It did not find the exact cause of the fire but said it was | :04:08. | :04:16.
fluid-based. It ruled out fuel or oil. Said that the power assisted | :04:16. | :04:20.
steering had escaped, causing the blaze. | :04:20. | :04:27.
There was a device that is to remove soot from the exhaust. | :04:27. | :04:34.
Power steering fluid is a oil, like any oil it is come bustible. It is | :04:34. | :04:37.
delivered under pressure through pipework located close to the | :04:37. | :04:43.
exhaust system. If the pipework fails, then there is the risk that | :04:43. | :04:47.
the pressurised hydraulic fluid, the power steering fluid can find | :04:47. | :04:51.
its way on to the exhaust system. Now depending on how hot that | :04:51. | :04:57.
exhaust system is, that part of the exhaust system is at the time, one | :04:57. | :05:01.
runs the risk of the vehicle catching fire. Martin's car was a | :05:01. | :05:06.
diesel. If there was a leak of power steering fluid from a pipe | :05:06. | :05:11.
carrying that fluid, it could find its way on to the front part of the | :05:11. | :05:16.
exhaust system where the diesel particulate filter is located, | :05:16. | :05:20.
arguably the hottest part of the exhaust system. The results of this | :05:20. | :05:25.
could be very, very serious indeed. Vauxhall now say that their own | :05:25. | :05:30.
investigations are ruled out any fault with the high pressure power | :05:30. | :05:35.
steering hose or fittings, but say that the cause of the fire remains | :05:35. | :05:39.
unknown. Five months after Martin's car was written off, Vauxhall | :05:39. | :05:43.
identified a fault in some other Vauxhall Insignia models, that | :05:43. | :05:47.
according to some experts could result in fire. How do we know | :05:47. | :05:52.
that? Well, we have our hands on this. It is what Vauxhall refer to | :05:52. | :05:58.
as a technical service bulletin. A document that isdies Buted to all | :05:58. | :06:01.
mechanics when something goes wrong with one of their vehicles and a | :06:01. | :06:06.
part needs replacing to fix the problem. This dates back to October, | :06:06. | :06:10.
2011. Is refers to the pipe that carries the power steering fluid. | :06:10. | :06:15.
It seems clear it says that the power steering pressure pipe may | :06:15. | :06:20.
crack or leak. The remedy is to replace the power steering pressure | :06:20. | :06:23.
pipe and clip. The cause, insufficient design. | :06:23. | :06:28.
So, what could be the consequences of failing to remedy this | :06:28. | :06:31.
insufficient design? You are looking at a situation where you | :06:31. | :06:35.
can have a sudden failure of a power steering pipe under pressure. | :06:35. | :06:40.
So that means you are going to lose power assistance to steering, you | :06:40. | :06:44.
could be on.the road, steering to the left, drifting out to the | :06:44. | :06:47.
opposite lane and causing a collision. It could be serious. On | :06:47. | :06:52.
top of that, you have power assisted steering fluid spraying on | :06:52. | :06:59.
to the hot part of the exhaust, the DPF, the diesel part I can late | :06:59. | :07:05.
filter, that can cause smoke in a worst case it could cause a fire. | :07:05. | :07:10.
Vauxhall says if the power steering fluid does escape from a pipe it | :07:10. | :07:14.
leaks out slowly rather than be sprayed across the engine, but how | :07:14. | :07:19.
reassuring is that? This fluid is highly flammable. It is present in | :07:19. | :07:24.
any form or quantityy in the eng yen, it is dangerous then as it | :07:24. | :07:30.
represents a fire hazard. A leak will by its own volition by the | :07:30. | :07:35.
nature the leak in the first place, even a slow leak is dangerous. | :07:35. | :07:44.
Vauxhall says that 6 x 900 vehicles manufactured in Germany, and these, | :07:44. | :07:49.
it said that it could not state that any fluid could come into | :07:49. | :07:53.
contact with a part of the engine where the fire could result. So | :07:53. | :07:58.
they cannot rule out the potential for fire, but it has recalled none | :07:58. | :08:03.
of the vehicles, the stpault being fixed only when owners are put in | :08:03. | :08:08.
for a service. There are two potential hazards. A | :08:08. | :08:12.
leak of power steering fluid can lead to a loss of power steering | :08:12. | :08:16.
assistance. But because of this significant | :08:16. | :08:21.
risk of fire from the leaking power steering fluid which is flammable, | :08:21. | :08:27.
this is a safety issue, it must be sorted immediately. If not, owners | :08:27. | :08:31.
are left in danger. Vehicles have been safety recalled for this | :08:31. | :08:35.
reason. Vauxhall have known about this for | :08:35. | :08:40.
some time. They have not been pro- active. In fact, they have been | :08:40. | :08:43.
putting it on the quiet when vehicles have been in for servicing. | :08:43. | :08:48.
That is not good enough. They should find the vehicles affected. | :08:48. | :08:53.
Bringing them in by issuing a recall and getting them sorted. | :08:53. | :08:59.
Vauxhall confirmed there is a service action in place involving | :08:59. | :09:06.
6,900 diesel Vauxhall Insignia 63% have been re-worked. Some exhibited | :09:06. | :09:12.
no signs of a problem or leaking others only a slow leak. They say | :09:12. | :09:16.
that there are no instances where a fire resulted from a slow leak and | :09:16. | :09:21.
no evidence that engine movement could tkhaus to worsen. Or that | :09:21. | :09:24.
there was evidence that an engine leak could cause rapid steering | :09:24. | :09:30.
loss or a fire. They are handling this as a service action to | :09:30. | :09:34.
minimise inconvenience to customers. Those with concerns should call | :09:34. | :09:39.
their dealer or customer care line. Vauxhall say that they investigate | :09:40. | :09:44.
every fire thoroughly. They stress that Martin's car was not in the | :09:45. | :09:48.
range of the vehicles affected by this action. They have no record of | :09:48. | :09:53.
the content of the telephone call in which he claims that he was told | :09:53. | :09:59.
that power assisted fluid was to blame. Confirming that their | :09:59. | :10:03.
inspections expressed no fault with the high pressure power steering or | :10:03. | :10:07.
fluid. If you would would like to comment | :10:07. | :10:13.

:10:55. | :11:07. | ||
series comes to a close, the only Roofs! Aren't they brilliant? They | :11:07. | :11:11.
keep the rain out, keep the heat in and over the years have helped to | :11:12. | :11:15.
keep us employed. Why? Because there are people out there who make | :11:15. | :11:19.
very bad jobs of them. Like SmartProof Total Roofing Solutions. | :11:19. | :11:23.
Not to be confused with companies of a similar name, they offer | :11:23. | :11:28.
renovations and coating. In fact, total roofing solutions. Gordon | :11:28. | :11:33.
from Wakefield took them up on this, but then he and his daughter, Judy, | :11:33. | :11:42.
needed a long lie down to recover. He said a new roof wound be about - | :11:42. | :11:50.
- would be about 11,000. What was your you are -- what was | :11:50. | :11:55.
your reaction? I thought it a bit steep, but he said that the coating | :11:55. | :12:00.
would help to preserve the roof, that it was a thermal coating to | :12:00. | :12:05.
help the heating bills and prolong the life of the roof. SmartProof | :12:05. | :12:09.
Total Roofing Solutions said they could coat the roof for 5,000, but | :12:09. | :12:14.
only if they could start in four days later. Depriving Gordon of the | :12:14. | :12:21.
cooling off period. When they signed him up, they took 2,500. | :12:21. | :12:25.
Then finished by time that Judy found out that this could be less | :12:25. | :12:29.
than the 5,000. Where did they get the figures | :12:29. | :12:32.
from? Judy cancelled the job to prevent SmartProof Total Roofing | :12:32. | :12:34.
Solutions taking more of her dad's money. | :12:34. | :12:38.
I don't want them to come back. They have ripped him off. | :12:38. | :12:44.
Overcharging is one thing, how about the workmanship? Margaret | :12:44. | :12:48.
knows, following a cold call, the company offered her the same roof | :12:48. | :12:51.
treatment. Had you had a problem with your roof? | :12:52. | :12:56.
Did they give you an idea of how long the job would take? One day | :12:56. | :13:00.
for cleaning and one day for applying the coating. | :13:00. | :13:04.
Unfortunately, for Margaret, the roof now looks like this... But | :13:04. | :13:09.
then looks can be deceptive. The job was worse than it appears. | :13:09. | :13:15.
Six days later I woke up in the morning to find my whole bathroom | :13:15. | :13:21.
like a shower. There was... Water coming through every crack and | :13:21. | :13:27.
orifice along a strip of my bathroom. They sent five people out | :13:27. | :13:34.
on the next five occasions it was a absolute nightmare it was still | :13:34. | :13:38.
flooding two weeks later. They have reduced the life of my roof. I | :13:38. | :13:42.
would need to have it totally replaced now in ten years. | :13:42. | :13:46.
I wonder what the expert would make of it. An expert with binoculars | :13:46. | :13:51.
and lots of letters after his name. This is a pretty poor job. Starting | :13:51. | :13:56.
off at the top, the ridge tiles have been poorly pointed. It will | :13:56. | :14:01.
fall out in a relatively short time. They have coloured the roof tiles | :14:01. | :14:06.
and then changed some afterwards. The soil and the vent pipe is now | :14:06. | :14:10.
on the edge of the roof. It is likely to have rainwater coming | :14:10. | :14:14.
through in a pretty short time. We have also been told by other | :14:14. | :14:19.
customers, that the whole service is apparently approved by Watchdog. | :14:20. | :14:25.
We don't do en doersments. There is no way that they are | :14:25. | :14:33.
getting that. I mean, that is not us. | :14:33. | :14:38.
And they can for get about the circle of trust. | :14:38. | :14:45.
That would be also an endorsement. They can tear up the application | :14:45. | :14:50.
for the roofing specialist, the President of Whom is Dan. Whatever. | :14:50. | :14:57.
The company deny using the Watchdog name. From what we have heard, | :14:57. | :15:02.
Smartproof would have a tough time getting anyone to give them a | :15:02. | :15:09.
thumbs up, but well deal in pictures. | :15:09. | :15:16.
We need a house, with lots of cameras. Action! Hang on, we can't | :15:16. | :15:21.
have action until we ask Barry the big question. Here it comes... | :15:21. | :15:26.
Barry, you have had a look at the roof, what do you think? It just | :15:26. | :15:32.
needs maintenance. Some cracked tiles renewed, some pointing, but | :15:32. | :15:36.
nothing new. There is about 250 millilitres of insulation, that is | :15:36. | :15:42.
the recommended depth. The cost? Top whack, 500. For that | :15:42. | :15:46.
we would get a roof lasting at least another 35 years. | :15:46. | :15:51.
OK. Now you can carry on. Action! Just in time as Smartproof | :15:51. | :15:55.
is on its way in the shape of salesman, Adrian Pickles. Let's | :15:55. | :16:00.
hope he knows his onions, or there will be more pickle-related | :16:00. | :16:10.
:16:10. | :16:24. | ||
references from me. What do you make of that, Barry? | :16:24. | :16:34.
:16:34. | :16:49. | ||
Nonsense. Rubbish! Barry? It is good for 70 years. | :16:49. | :16:59.
:16:59. | :17:19. | ||
Although Adrian Pickles goes on to say that the insulation claim is | :17:19. | :17:23.
not something that they push, the company does not follow suit. | :17:23. | :17:27.
Promising that customers will save 25% on energy bills. Seeing that | :17:28. | :17:32.
the house is already fully insulated, that is nonsense. Wait | :17:32. | :17:35.
until the work starts, though, because that is scary. | :17:36. | :17:41.
And that work will start a little later. Once the persuasive Adrian | :17:41. | :17:44.
Pickles has closed his sale. The prices are through the roof. Will | :17:44. | :17:49.
the workers manage to stay on the roof? The answer... After this cup | :17:50. | :17:57.
of coffee. Thanks, Chris. | :17:57. | :18:03.
My pleasure, I'm coffee boy tonight. How is your's, Annie? I think that | :18:03. | :18:10.
I have the Weakest Drink! Now, I am not just making coffee for the | :18:10. | :18:14.
presenters, but for everybody. Look at how many are in here. I need a | :18:14. | :18:19.
few extra cups. So I have ordered them from Amazon. Here they have | :18:19. | :18:23.
just arrived. I will open the box in front of you. | :18:23. | :18:28.
Amazing. She would make great telly. | :18:28. | :18:33.
Quick! Now, it is a very large box. As I open up all of the bobbings, | :18:33. | :18:38.
right? I find even more boxes. More exciting! Let me sort this out | :18:38. | :18:43.
here. In fact, while I do all of this, let's have a look at a few | :18:43. | :18:47.
other products that Watchdog viewers ordered from Amazon and the | :18:47. | :18:57.
:18:57. | :18:57. | ||
Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds | :18:57. | :19:37.
Stop! We can no longer contain ourselves! That is OK. I've | :19:37. | :19:41.
finished. Look at this, my four lovely cups. | :19:41. | :19:49.
Out of four boxes? Yes, have a look at that. Unbelievable. | :19:49. | :19:51.
This company says it is "committed to reducing packaging and waste". | :19:51. | :19:54.
It is "constantly looking for ways to reduce its environmantal impact". | :19:54. | :20:01.
The excuse? They have said that they aim to ensure that customers | :20:01. | :20:04.
get their products in perfect conditions, but they are working | :20:04. | :20:09.
with manufactures to cut the costs of packaging and add that the | :20:09. | :20:14.
packaging is environmentally friendly as the cardboard is 100% | :20:14. | :20:17.
recyclable. Now, this week nat West raised the | :20:17. | :20:22.
cost of borrowing for homeowners. Did it increase the rate for | :20:22. | :20:28.
safers? No! No new research sthees savings with NatWest and other | :20:28. | :20:31.
banks and building societies are getting a worse deal than ever, but | :20:31. | :20:36.
do we have to put up with it? We asked the man with the huge | :20:36. | :20:41.
calculator! Here he is, Martin Lewis needs no introduction, but he | :20:41. | :20:46.
does have bags of saving tips. You can't put your money in the bank | :20:46. | :20:49.
and expect it to earn a decent interest rate. The way to do it is | :20:49. | :20:54.
to become an active, aggressive safer! But, before you can do that, | :20:55. | :20:58.
you have to find out what rate you are on. With so many different | :20:58. | :21:06.
accounts and interest rates, that is not always easy. Meet inventor | :21:06. | :21:14.
and entrepreneur Mark Searles. He is inventing a product to help | :21:14. | :21:17.
bikes. I would not have time to check the | :21:17. | :21:22.
interest rates. So, in 2001, Mark invested it all | :21:22. | :21:28.
in an online E-saving account account with nationwide. That give | :21:28. | :21:34.
him as healthy 6,000 a year, but it dropped to just 600. He has | :21:34. | :21:41.
only just found out about the reduced rate. Why? I didn't receive | :21:41. | :21:46.
communication from nationwide. It was not clear online. I sent many | :21:46. | :21:50.
online messages over a period of two to three weeks. It took a total | :21:51. | :21:56.
of two weeks before I received the interest breakdown. That revealed | :21:56. | :22:02.
that the interest had gone from 5% to just 0 .4 5% a year. | :22:02. | :22:07.
I had trusted nationwide as the largest building society to keep | :22:07. | :22:11.
the rates competitive and to keep me informed. | :22:11. | :22:17.
Nationwide earns an nick lending out 108,000 of my money, whilst | :22:17. | :22:22.
paying me almost nothing in return. They make it difficult for us to | :22:22. | :22:27.
find out what we are earning. Why is it not printed on statements? | :22:27. | :22:31.
Many will make you click a link and list a range of different accounts, | :22:31. | :22:35.
how do you know which is yours? They will not make it easy as it | :22:35. | :22:39.
means we are less likely to change. Don't let them off the hook. Pick | :22:39. | :22:47.
up your phone and ask them. If it is not good enough. Leave. | :22:47. | :22:54.
Retired gardening enthusiasts, wishes he had left Lloyds TSB early. | :22:54. | :22:59.
He put his money into a saving account in 2001. 2010 the interest | :22:59. | :23:05.
was not too bad. So we thought that the time was here to reinvest a few | :23:05. | :23:08.
thousand and more. With the interest it would make a nest egg, | :23:08. | :23:13.
but it did the not happen. We looked at it, the interest rate had | :23:13. | :23:16.
almost disappeared. David found that the rate had | :23:16. | :23:23.
dropped to just 0.5%. Inspite invests thousands over the years, | :23:23. | :23:30.
it had earned him 11.40. Lloyds said he could open a new account | :23:30. | :23:36.
with a bonus rate of 176%. That lasted 12 months. Then it plummets | :23:36. | :23:41.
to a mere 0 .1%. I would have thought that loyalty | :23:41. | :23:44.
accounts for something. That they would look after my money and give | :23:44. | :23:50.
me the better interest each time. He has fallen victim to what I call | :23:50. | :23:57.
the suck, slap and flog technique. Banks like to suck news with | :23:57. | :24:00.
headlinesline rates of interest. Then slapping the rate down, so we | :24:00. | :24:06.
think that we are earning well, but we are not. Then they flog a new | :24:06. | :24:10.
account with a similar sounding name and you think fantastic, that | :24:10. | :24:16.
is yours, but you are wrong. Get them, set them up, take them while | :24:16. | :24:21.
the bonus is there and then ditch and switch when it ends. | :24:21. | :24:27.
Cash ISAs are seen as a better deal providing tax-free savings but they | :24:27. | :24:32.
are as vulnerable as having interest rates slashed. | :24:32. | :24:36.
Anna from Cheshire is a loyal customer from NatWest. | :24:36. | :24:41.
You know the one ADVERTISEMENT: NatWest, helpful banking. | :24:41. | :24:46.
After paying in this year's maximum allowance, Alan was given unhelpful | :24:46. | :24:49.
news. I received a letter from NatWest to | :24:49. | :24:55.
say that they were dropping the interest rate from 2.01% to 2.7% | :24:55. | :25:00.
for the year. It did not please me. They should have given us the note | :25:00. | :25:05.
fiction of this change before the new tax year came into play. | :25:05. | :25:10.
Whether it is a cash ISA from this year or from ten years ago, never | :25:10. | :25:15.
think once the money is there, it is a done deal. You have a right to | :25:15. | :25:19.
transfer your ISA. Now, don't do this by withdrawing the cash. Then | :25:19. | :25:26.
it is not a cash ISA, you have then lost the tax-free status. Find the | :25:26. | :25:29.
best-paying new provider that accepts transfers and ask it to | :25:29. | :25:34.
move the money for you. Then the cash ISA is in this one, forget the | :25:34. | :25:39.
badly paying one. So, the advice is clear : If your | :25:39. | :25:44.
bank or building society has cut the rate on the savings, look for a | :25:44. | :25:49.
better deal. They are there to be had. As a few shoppers with savings | :25:49. | :25:54.
accounts are to find out. You are getting 27 interest? Yes. | :25:54. | :26:00.
The new rate is 4%. If the rates stay the same you would earn 1200. | :26:00. | :26:10.
:26:10. | :26:12. | ||
I have a tendency not to move them. Wrist... I have an ISA with 3,500. | :26:12. | :26:17.
Everywhere else you are doing well. That is ringing alarm bells. Over | :26:17. | :26:22.
the next year 240 better off. In one hour, in one shopping centre, | :26:22. | :26:26.
Martin met with seven shoppers. He was able to show five of them that | :26:26. | :26:32.
they could earn better rates of interest elsewhere. For one woman, | :26:32. | :26:37.
the long-term benefits of switch pring jaw-dropping. | :26:37. | :26:43.
If you -- pr switching were jaw- dropping. | :26:43. | :26:47.
You could be this much better off... That is a fair few new pairs of | :26:47. | :26:53.
shoes. The Bank of England rate is set at | :26:53. | :26:58.
a record low. Nationwide said because of this they were unable to | :26:58. | :27:02.
maintain the previous rate. They say that rates are cleared on | :27:02. | :27:08.
the website and are on an knew statements. The same is true of | :27:08. | :27:13.
Lloyds TSB. It writes to customers at the end of bonuses or fixed | :27:13. | :27:21.
periods to explain a change of rate. And NatWest said they were sorry | :27:21. | :27:26.
about Alan's changes, it says that it timed this one with the ISA | :27:26. | :27:30.
season so that customers could compare it with similar products. | :27:30. | :27:35.
Royal Mail, the price of a first class stamp up by a third to 60p. | :27:35. | :27:40.
Second class is also up, now 50p, but as the costs increase, so do | :27:40. | :27:43.
the complaints. It may be one of the oldest | :27:43. | :27:47.
services of its kind in the world, but like the most modern go-ahead | :27:47. | :27:51.
companies, the Royal Mail has a vision. It's a big one. | :27:51. | :27:56.
To be the best and the most trusted postal service in the world. If | :27:56. | :28:01.
only it always lived up to it. Take those first class deliveries. | :28:01. | :28:08.
Yes, the ones we are paying 30% more for. Does a first class stamp | :28:08. | :28:16.
ensure you letter will arrive in one or two days? No. | :28:16. | :28:23.
Ask Mr Lawrence Harris. We found a lot of post was not | :28:23. | :28:27.
getting delivered. Or it was even two to three weeks. This caused the | :28:27. | :28:30.
clients great distress and ourselves. | :28:30. | :28:35.
I spoke to the Royal Mail's complaints department. I was | :28:35. | :28:39.
informed that the delivery time for first class post, as far as the | :28:39. | :28:43.
Post Office is concerned is delivery within 15 working days. I | :28:43. | :28:47.
was staggered. Frankly, so was I, but here is the | :28:47. | :28:50.
proof. The Royal Mail's terms and conditions which say that they will | :28:50. | :28:54.
not offer compensation for a delayed first class letter, unless | :28:54. | :29:01.
it still has not arrived 15 working days after the due date. | :29:01. | :29:07.
So, if the 60p first class stamp does not offer a guarantee for you, | :29:07. | :29:12.
you can pay more on a Royal Mail service that promises extra | :29:12. | :29:15.
reassurance. Craig Holden took advantage of that | :29:15. | :29:20.
service in March of this year, but it was a decision to cost him dear. | :29:20. | :29:26.
I'm a keen birdwatcher, I booked myself a trip to China. I had to | :29:26. | :29:31.
send off the passport to the Chinese visa centre. I used | :29:31. | :29:34.
recorded delivery. I sent it in lots of time. | :29:34. | :29:38.
But the passport was lost in the system. Meaning that Craig Holden | :29:38. | :29:44.
was not only in danger of missing his trip to China, but was unable | :29:44. | :29:54.
:29:54. | :29:57. | ||
to go on another holiday in Egypt. He lost on 200 on taking extra | :29:57. | :30:02.
travel costs and the time off work. Royal Mail don't seem interested in | :30:02. | :30:06.
helping out in any way. So that is first class and recorded | :30:06. | :30:11.
delivery. What about Air Sure? That is the fastest international | :30:11. | :30:15.
tracked service, secure and reliable, delivered to 30 | :30:15. | :30:16.
destinations worldwide... Apparently. | :30:16. | :30:22.
Yes, we have had complaints about that too. Lynn Ferguson told us how | :30:22. | :30:29.
she used it to send cash worth 130 to a friend in the USA in February. | :30:29. | :30:35.
Royal Mail aimed to deliver Air Sure packages to the States in six | :30:35. | :30:40.
days, but neither the money or the fridge magnet in the package | :30:40. | :30:44.
arrived. Royal Mail offered only the cost of postage as compensation. | :30:44. | :30:50.
That is not reliable. So what about Parcelforce? A company that is part | :30:50. | :30:57.
of the wider Royal Mail group. It promises: Every single parcel you | :30:57. | :31:02.
entrust us with is a confirmation of your confidence and trust in us. | :31:02. | :31:07.
How we respond is a measure of other success. Why do I getting | :31:07. | :31:13.
feeling thating is bad is about to happen? My brother was playing a ke | :31:13. | :31:18.
in addition Glasgow. There was a mix up. I forgot to bring the pipes | :31:18. | :31:25.
home, they were left in the hotel. I got a delivery for Parcelforce. | :31:25. | :31:31.
The pipes are irreplaceable. Being in the band for 60 years. But they | :31:31. | :31:37.
were not as important for the company. Despite boasting a high | :31:37. | :31:42.
quality, they lost them. They never turned up so we waited a | :31:42. | :31:48.
week and contacted Parcelforce. The tracking details of the parcel | :31:48. | :31:53.
had been collected and gone to a national hub, but they are vanished. | :31:53. | :31:58.
So I went through the lost items process and the claims were ses and | :31:58. | :32:03.
then in December I was told that they had also not only lost the | :32:03. | :32:13.
:32:13. | :32:13. | ||
bagpipes but lost the claims documentation. How can you lose | :32:14. | :32:17.
something like bagpipes? This was unbelievable. | :32:18. | :32:22.
Ricky Boletto reporting there. Royal Mail say that they deliver | :32:22. | :32:27.
15.9 billion item as year. That the overwhelming majority get there on | :32:27. | :32:34.
time. The minimum service standards are 93% for first class and 98.5% | :32:34. | :32:39.
among the second class for Europe, but the mail volume has dropped. | :32:39. | :32:43.
A lot of figures, what about the people? Royal Mail acknowledged | :32:43. | :32:47.
that they sometimes get it wrong and seek to put it right. They are | :32:47. | :32:51.
investigating Lawrence Harris's complaints about slow delivery as a | :32:51. | :32:56.
matter of priority. They have apologised to all the others, | :32:56. | :32:59.
including Craig Holden. They have offered compensation and | :32:59. | :33:03.
discussions are continuing. Lynn Ferguson who sent recorded delivery | :33:03. | :33:10.
items to the USA is in line for a payment as a goodwill gesture and | :33:10. | :33:15.
great news for Glen Ferry, his precious bagpipes have been found | :33:15. | :33:20.
after a further search. Like the music, the address label came | :33:20. | :33:25.
unstuck, the parcel went to the wrong depot and was hidden behind | :33:25. | :33:29.
equipment for safe keeping. They are reminding stpaf about the | :33:29. | :33:33.
correct procedures. Still to come. ASDA, more rollbacks | :33:33. | :33:39.
that do not add up. How many times can they get it wrong? Back to | :33:39. | :33:44.
SmartProof Total Roofing Solutions. The company that offers total | :33:44. | :33:49.
roofing solutions. Now we know what is wrong with our roof, the odd | :33:49. | :33:55.
cracked tile and wear and tear. Nothing that a few hours and 500 | :33:55. | :33:59.
can't put right, but Adrian Pickles has a bigger job and larger figure | :33:59. | :34:08.
in mind. Here is Adrian Pickles trying to | :34:08. | :34:18.
:34:18. | :34:28. | ||
persuade Pauline to have a full refurbishment. | :34:28. | :34:35.
He says that they will re-point the roof, inspect the ledwork and seal | :34:35. | :34:45.
:34:45. | :34:45. | ||
it and afly a fung ul wash. Well, it sounds impressive, but our | :34:45. | :34:50.
expert reckons that the roof needs basic maintenance to add another 35 | :34:50. | :34:55.
years. As for the coating it may look nice and give the roof a few | :34:55. | :35:03.
more years, but as a whole new roof would cost about 4,000, you would | :35:03. | :35:07.
probably not want to spend a whole lotment | :35:07. | :35:17.
:35:17. | :35:23. | ||
That process is 4 ,762. He is prepared to negotiate. | :35:23. | :35:32.
I can to it for 2,795. Pauline says she needs to think | :35:32. | :35:35.
about it, but Adrian is keen to get an answer. | :35:36. | :35:40.
How long are you going to think about it? I am just checking. | :35:40. | :35:46.
Do you go online to check your account? Or is it rummage in your | :35:46. | :35:50.
bottom drawer. Remind us of your business. | :35:50. | :35:58.
He is like a dog with a bone. I will give you a call in an hour. | :35:58. | :36:02.
Let you have a chance to have a look. I have only so much discount | :36:02. | :36:08.
for this area. He leaves, so that is the pitch of | :36:08. | :36:15.
the roof. So to speak! The work, however is a | :36:16. | :36:19.
different matter. Could it be that the selling procedure is flawed and | :36:19. | :36:26.
when the work is carried out it is very professional? It could be. | :36:26. | :36:30.
Then it is important to proceed that in mind. | :36:30. | :36:35.
So we book in the job and Adrian drops the price again. Saying it | :36:35. | :36:42.
will take two full days and tells us to expect a surveyor. We accept | :36:42. | :36:45.
this. Well, the surveyor has not turned up yet. Here are the roofers. | :36:46. | :36:55.
:36:56. | :37:05. | ||
It looks as though they are setting up for the jet-washing equipment. | :37:05. | :37:15.
:37:15. | :37:18. | ||
They have not done any survey work. The surveyor is coming later on? | :37:18. | :37:24.
Now, the thing in front of you is a cart... They have not done a check | :37:24. | :37:28.
in the roof space. We know that the underfelt is torn. There is a | :37:28. | :37:31.
possibility that water will now come through the roof and cause | :37:31. | :37:37.
damage inside the roof space. Let's hope that does not happen. | :37:37. | :37:41.
Meanwhile, here is another possibility, that they cause damage | :37:41. | :37:44.
to themselves. My heart is in my hands. | :37:44. | :37:50.
That must be very, very slippery. At any time he can just go straight | :37:50. | :38:00.
:38:00. | :38:02. | ||
off his feet. Standing on the ridge, precariously | :38:02. | :38:07.
balanced, if that is not an accident waiting to happen, I don't | :38:07. | :38:10.
know what is. I wonder what the other guy is | :38:11. | :38:18.
doing? He is on his second cuppa... This guy does not have tea breaks? | :38:18. | :38:24.
No, it is one long teatime with occasional breaks for work. | :38:24. | :38:30.
So, they finish jet washing the roof, but not without breaking some | :38:30. | :38:34.
tiles, what is next. North to do the pointing properly, | :38:34. | :38:39.
he has to rebed the tiles. All he is doing is filling in where there | :38:39. | :38:44.
are gaps. That is not good enough. The mortar will fall off. He is | :38:44. | :38:48.
smoothing out the mortar with his hands. That is not the way to point. | :38:48. | :38:56.
This is the way to clean a camera, though. | :38:56. | :39:01.
Thanks guys. Danny collects 940 and they head | :39:01. | :39:06.
off. Two hours, after they have arrived, | :39:06. | :39:12.
supposedly, to do a full day's work. Time to inspect the loft. Remember, | :39:12. | :39:21.
there was no survey. We had torn felt so water could get in. | :39:21. | :39:26.
The surveyor has arrive, so I am hiding here. The question is why | :39:26. | :39:29.
has he arrived after the work has been carried out. | :39:29. | :39:34.
It is a quick visit. It does not include a loft inspection. | :39:34. | :39:38.
Just as well for us as Barry is hiding there and using his time to | :39:38. | :39:42.
do the inspection. I'm sorry to say I was right. The | :39:42. | :39:47.
water and some of the debris from the roof has come through this torn | :39:47. | :39:52.
underfelt and it has deposited all over the insulation. It has been | :39:52. | :39:58.
wet through thoroughly. Can you imagine if there had been no | :39:58. | :40:01.
insulation in the roof it could have damaged the ceiling. This | :40:01. | :40:06.
company did not know that as they did not check. That is really | :40:06. | :40:10.
unacceptable. Broken tiles... Broken promises. | :40:10. | :40:15.
It is turning out a bad day for the roof... And the truth. | :40:15. | :40:21.
It is not a great day for poetry, either. The job of the house is | :40:21. | :40:25.
about to go from bad to worse! They may not be the best roofers in the | :40:25. | :40:29.
game, but when it comes to hurling tiles they are champions. When it | :40:29. | :40:32.
comes to charges they take some beating. | :40:32. | :40:35.
Join us later as they present us with their bill and we present them | :40:35. | :40:40.
with our evidence. Thanks, Matt. Now a few of you are | :40:40. | :40:44.
getting in touch about the amount of packaging that Amazon use when | :40:44. | :40:50.
sending items. You are fed up with it. Gemma Heath sent us this photo | :40:50. | :40:56.
when she heard this story, a dog collar, as you can see, the box is | :40:56. | :41:03.
bigger than the dog! Next, ASDA. Now in March, we revealed thou was | :41:03. | :41:07.
breaching Government guidance with the famous price cut slogan, the | :41:07. | :41:13.
rollback. We showed how some items labelled as rollbacks had been on | :41:13. | :41:17.
sale cheaper. A processing error said ASDA, saying that they priced | :41:17. | :41:22.
40,000 products a week, so that sometimes they get it wrong. How | :41:22. | :41:27.
many though? ASDA describe their rollback offers as a permanent or | :41:27. | :41:30.
temporary price reduction. The customers love them. The staff are | :41:30. | :41:36.
proud of them. Just listen : ADVERTISEMENT: You can't beat | :41:36. | :41:40.
saving money. That is what I love about rollbacks. | :41:40. | :41:45.
But you also can't beat honesty. So we love checking supermarket deals | :41:45. | :41:50.
to ensure that they really are what they seem. | :41:50. | :41:56.
Miller genuine draft lager, ASDA are selling a 12-pack claiming that | :41:56. | :42:02.
is it a rollback. But when we checked we found some | :42:02. | :42:09.
of the -- them breaching Government guide lines on pricing. | :42:09. | :42:12.
ASDA admitted we had identified mistakes, but suggested that the | :42:12. | :42:15.
cases were rare. So it us that sounded odd. | :42:15. | :42:20.
Off the tens of thousands of products that ASDA sell, were we | :42:20. | :42:24.
really clever enough to find a few occasional errors? There is only | :42:24. | :42:29.
one way to find out. Over the last few weeks, Watchdog researchers | :42:29. | :42:34.
have been checking the price histories of a larger sample of | :42:34. | :42:39.
ASDA goods, all labelled as rollbacks online. The results are | :42:39. | :42:45.
damning. Out of the 120 products checked 52 failed to comply with | :42:45. | :42:50.
one or more of the Government pricing guidelines. That is an | :42:50. | :42:55.
astonishing 43%! We found several days that the ASDA rollbacks extra | :42:55. | :43:00.
veened the guidelines, but what is key is whether the offers mislead | :43:00. | :43:05.
consumers. So it is time to show our findings to the ones spending | :43:05. | :43:10.
the money. According to the guidelines, if a | :43:10. | :43:14.
retailer like ASDA is promise -- promoting a price cut, the rollback | :43:14. | :43:19.
price should be compared to the immediate previous selling price | :43:19. | :43:27.
unless stated otherwise. So, the Sheba cat food. Was a rollback to | :43:27. | :43:37.
:43:37. | :43:38. | ||
4. So, when was it on sale for 4.94 well, it was on sale for the | :43:38. | :43:45.
period of March, 2011. The rollback price should have been compared to | :43:45. | :43:48.
the immediate previous price, but there have been three other prices | :43:48. | :43:52.
since the one they have used as a xaerson. | :43:52. | :43:55.
This product is not comply -- comparison. | :43:55. | :43:58.
This is not complying with the Government guidelines, as they | :43:58. | :44:02.
state that the comparison is with the immediate past selling product. | :44:02. | :44:06.
That is not happening. So, are you surprised if I told you | :44:06. | :44:13.
it was at 4.94 on the 20 25th of March, 2011? Yes. | :44:13. | :44:22.
It is not a realistic time frame. It should be. If it was 4.94, it | :44:22. | :44:27.
should have been recently, not a year ago. They should give a date | :44:27. | :44:31.
from when it was roll -- rolled back from. | :44:31. | :44:36.
Now a second example. A product on offer should have been available at | :44:36. | :44:41.
the previous higher price for 28 consecutive days or more. So where | :44:41. | :44:50.
does that leave Clairol hair Dye? They put it on rollback at 5. So | :44:50. | :44:55.
here it is at 5 and here it is at 7, but according to the guidelines | :44:55. | :45:01.
it should have been sold at the higher price for at least 28 | :45:01. | :45:05.
consecutive days, but it was not, it was there for a total of nine | :45:05. | :45:08.
days. The pricing guidelines are designed | :45:08. | :45:13.
to ensure that traders don't temporarily increase a price to | :45:13. | :45:18.
then advertise a price reduction. Consumers are being misled in to | :45:18. | :45:23.
thinking that the higher price was the normal proper price of the | :45:23. | :45:31.
product when this may well not be the case. That is not very good. | :45:31. | :45:36.
They are trying to convince you are saving when it was really only 7. | :45:36. | :45:41.
So it is trickery. It was reduced to 5 after only | :45:41. | :45:47.
nine days of being at the higher price? I have no problem. I think | :45:47. | :45:53.
it is leading the customer on. It is very truthful. | :45:53. | :45:59.
So to a third product. Cat food. Here ASDA were breaching another | :45:59. | :46:03.
guideline by continuing to label it as a rollback even though it was on | :46:03. | :46:07.
sale at the lower price for twice as long as the previous higher | :46:07. | :46:11.
price. Confusing, maybe even unlawful. | :46:11. | :46:15.
If a product is advertised as being on offer for a long period of time | :46:15. | :46:20.
it could be misleading. The consumer believes this is a recent | :46:20. | :46:24.
reduction, but the new price has actually become the established | :46:24. | :46:27.
price. If consumers are being misled, | :46:27. | :46:31.
there is a possibility of a breach of the law. | :46:31. | :46:39.
This law, in fact, the Consumers Protection from Unfair Trading 2008. | :46:40. | :46:44.
This forbids traders from presenting misleading information. | :46:44. | :46:47.
It may deceive consumer into buying goods they may not have bought | :46:47. | :46:54.
otherwise. So what about the ASDA rollback deal, could they deceive | :46:54. | :46:59.
people? You do have to trust offers. If they say it is reduced, you | :46:59. | :47:05.
think it is a bargain. I may buy three of them. I think it is | :47:05. | :47:09.
misleading. You think you are getting a good deal, then you think | :47:09. | :47:13.
that you fell for that. It is deceptive. | :47:13. | :47:20.
The implication for the consumers is that they are miss led as to the | :47:20. | :47:24.
reduction of the value advertised. They are not given full, clear and | :47:24. | :47:27.
accurate information. With the research I have seen, I believe | :47:27. | :47:32.
there is more than enough evidence for trading standards or the Office | :47:32. | :47:38.
of Fair Trading to take an interest in how the prices are displayed. | :47:38. | :47:44.
Now, ASDA say they do not entirely agree with our expert's view, but | :47:44. | :47:49.
acknowledge to do better. So this are changing the online system, | :47:49. | :47:55.
switching it from a man ual one, to an automated one. This will take | :47:55. | :48:00.
some time to complete. They have a new procedure in the meantime that | :48:00. | :48:05.
all price cuts are trip-checked before appearing online. An | :48:05. | :48:09.
independent audit team will monitor the prices with the authority to | :48:09. | :48:13.
remove the product if they encounter a problem. | :48:14. | :48:19.
They believe that this will ensure customers that they can shop online | :48:19. | :48:26.
with confidence. Here are a few more stories: Fed up | :48:26. | :48:31.
with sky-high household energy prices, turn the heating down, your | :48:31. | :48:37.
blood may be about to boil. Ofgem, the organisation set up to protect | :48:37. | :48:41.
gas and electricity consumers has paid out more than 1 million in | :48:41. | :48:47.
bonuses to its staff in two years. That is despite energy bills rising | :48:47. | :48:53.
sharply. Nearly 350 staff received bonuses in 2011 and previously, two | :48:54. | :48:59.
lucky employees got pay-outs of 20,000. Ofgem say that they don't | :48:59. | :49:04.
regulate energy prices that the rewards were in line for government | :49:04. | :49:10.
guidesance for civil servants and basic staff pay is frozen. | :49:10. | :49:15.
Fancy a city break? The taxi from the airport may cost as much as the | :49:15. | :49:19.
flight. The website Skyscanner has put together a list of what it | :49:19. | :49:24.
calls the most misleading airport names in Europe. The worth offender | :49:24. | :49:33.
in Britain? London Oxford, 60 miles from the capital, but not as bad as | :49:33. | :49:40.
two destinations advertised by Ryanair. Memmem, 07 miles from the | :49:40. | :49:50.
:49:50. | :49:50. | ||
Munich city, and -- Memmingen Munich West. | :49:50. | :49:56.
70 miles from Munich. Querying your tax bill, it could | :49:56. | :50:01.
cost you time and money, official figures show that taxpayers have to | :50:01. | :50:06.
wait nearly three times longer to speak to HM Revenue & Customs on | :50:06. | :50:10.
the phone than two years ago. The average time on hold is now more | :50:10. | :50:15.
than four minutes. A quarter of callers get so frustrated that they | :50:15. | :50:18.
hang up. HM Revenue & Customs say that they are looking to deploy | :50:18. | :50:22.
more people on the lines during busy periods. There are no plans to | :50:22. | :50:29.
make the service free. It is an 0845 number so callers are paying | :50:29. | :50:35.
up to 40 pence a minute from a mobile phone. The taxman wins again. | :50:35. | :50:37.
Back to SmartProof Total Roofing Solutions. | :50:37. | :50:42.
They are based in Leeds. Not to be confused with other companies of | :50:42. | :50:47.
similar names. They have promised to refurbish the roof of our house | :50:47. | :50:51.
using new technology imported from Denmark. Appropriate enough as they | :50:51. | :50:57.
aim to make a killing. We have had phase one of the job. A bit of a | :50:57. | :51:01.
disaster. Will the sequel turn out to be any better? We are about to | :51:01. | :51:06.
find out. The two boys, Danny and Mark have arrived. Hopefully they | :51:06. | :51:10.
will replace any damaged tiles before the coating, but I don't | :51:10. | :51:13.
think that this is the way to impress Barry. | :51:13. | :51:20.
He has just pushed the tile out and thrown it down on to the lawn. | :51:20. | :51:26.
What are they doing?! Walking across the roof is going to break | :51:26. | :51:31.
more tiles. You know he is doing all of this with tiles on his | :51:31. | :51:36.
shoulder. It is dangerous. They really should have a roof ladder in | :51:36. | :51:44.
as a minimum. The salesman said that they would | :51:44. | :51:50.
go around the flashing and re-set He is painting the flashing, but | :51:50. | :51:55.
not doing anything to it. He is not improving the performance of the | :51:55. | :51:58.
flashing, despite what they promised. | :51:58. | :52:04.
It is cheeky, but Mark replaced some broken tiles and Danny is | :52:04. | :52:08.
making good progress with spraying the first coat. | :52:08. | :52:15.
Now, what is he doing there? He is repairing a broken tile. | :52:15. | :52:19.
Pushing mortar into the crack with his fingers. Concealing the | :52:19. | :52:24.
breakage of the tile. Which presumably will be covered up by | :52:24. | :52:34.
:52:34. | :52:41. | ||
the paint. It is not going to last On to the second coat. It seems | :52:41. | :52:49.
that Mark is busy again, but what about Danny? Oh, right, busy having | :52:49. | :52:56.
a fag and broadening his mind! is the second coating. There is no | :52:56. | :53:02.
attention to the detail. The coating is supposed to have thermal | :53:02. | :53:07.
properties, but it is evident that a thin coating of paint will hardly | :53:07. | :53:09.
create a difference. After two-and-a-half hours, we are | :53:09. | :53:15.
told it is finished and asked to pay the balance. The two-day job | :53:15. | :53:23.
lasted five hours and 25 minutes, the total price, 2,380. So what | :53:23. | :53:29.
did we get for the money? You saw it, it looks good, what do you make | :53:29. | :53:34.
of it? It is a poor job all around. We were supposed to have a | :53:34. | :53:39.
renovated roof. They have simply put a coat of paint on and done | :53:39. | :53:43.
some rudimentary works which does not fit the bill. Amazingly they | :53:43. | :53:47.
replaced some tiles and broke others. We have more broken tiles | :53:47. | :53:51.
than what we started with. That is the outside of the roof? | :53:51. | :53:56.
Yes. On the inside of the roof they caused a quite a bit of damage. | :53:56. | :54:00.
Believe it or not, no-one checked inside the roof before they started | :54:00. | :54:05.
work. Here is a roof starting out with a maximum 500 expenditure | :54:05. | :54:09.
requirement. We have paid nearly five times that amount, it is | :54:09. | :54:14.
pretty poor value, I think. We want to ask sales man, Adrian | :54:14. | :54:18.
Pickles, why he told us all of those lice and why the company did | :54:18. | :54:24.
not -- lies and why the company did not deliver on all of those | :54:24. | :54:28.
promises. Time for a small change, first. | :54:28. | :54:32.
The householder Pauline has said that the next door neighbour may be | :54:32. | :54:36.
interested in having a chat about her roof. She could not have said | :54:36. | :54:41.
that her next door neighbour was a 42 bloke, could she? Oh, no, that | :54:41. | :54:47.
would be far too simp. Pauline answers the door and takes | :54:47. | :54:51.
Adrian Pickles over to meet the neighbour. That is me, in case you | :54:51. | :55:00.
have forgotten. This skirt is very uncomfortable. | :55:00. | :55:10.
:55:10. | :55:12. | ||
Yes, Pauline is really taking the role seriously. | :55:12. | :55:20.
Mary has a problem with facial hair. Alright, love? Yeah, not too bad. | :55:20. | :55:24.
How are you doing, Adrian Pickles, it is Matt Allwright from BBC Rogue | :55:24. | :55:29.
Traders. The way you are selling your roofing solution, as you call | :55:29. | :55:33.
it, is based on lies from what we have seen. What you are doing is | :55:33. | :55:40.
blowing up the cost of a potential roof to 10,000 in that case, when | :55:40. | :55:46.
in fact it would have been close to about 3,500. What that does is | :55:46. | :55:51.
scare your potential customers, that is how you get in touch with | :55:51. | :55:54.
us, Adrian Pickles, they are scared into buying a product that they | :55:54. | :55:58.
would not have bought otherwise. I will pass on the details to the | :55:58. | :56:03.
head office. You are selling this, so you have | :56:03. | :56:05.
to take responsibility. Excuse me. | :56:05. | :56:09.
I am fine. You have to take responsibility for the way you sell | :56:09. | :56:16.
and take thousands of pounds off people, before we even get to the... | :56:16. | :56:23.
The way that the job is actually carried out. | :56:23. | :56:29.
That is Adrian Pickles of SmartProof Total Roofing Solutions. | :56:30. | :56:35.
Demonstrating that they are part of the problem, not the solution. | :56:35. | :56:42.
You will have to excuse me, I have to shave my legs! Well, we have | :56:42. | :56:46.
since put our allegations to the company. They have apologised and | :56:46. | :56:50.
said that the workers have let the customers down and damaged the | :56:50. | :56:54.
reputation. They offered to correct the damage in the cases feature and | :56:54. | :57:00.
to refund customers if they are not happy, including us. They say that | :57:00. | :57:03.
they encourage a soft sales approach and have thousands of | :57:04. | :57:09.
happy customers, they insist that a life-span of a roof like ours is 60 | :57:09. | :57:13.
years and stand by the benefits of Smartproof saying it is cheaper | :57:13. | :57:17.
than paying for a new roof and that the price is competitive. That the | :57:17. | :57:20.
insulation benefits are backed up by independent and respected | :57:20. | :57:24.
research, but have withdrawn the claim that the product will save | :57:24. | :57:31.
25% on energy bills. The roofing contractors featured no longer work | :57:31. | :57:34.
for Smartproof, but these two, along with Adrian Pickles do make | :57:34. | :57:41.
it on to our rogues gallery, joining Rodney Goldson, remember | :57:41. | :57:49.
him? He promised to refund us, 2,500, he has. Well done. | :57:49. | :57:53.
It seems a lot of you are unhappy with the Royal Mail. Many | :57:53. | :57:57.
complaints about the delayed deliveries and the fact that you | :57:57. | :58:01.
cannot get compensation unless items are delivered less than 15 | :58:01. | :58:05.
working days later. Martin's report on low interest rates for safers | :58:05. | :58:11.
has touched a nerve. So report on incredibly low rates. Ian says he | :58:11. | :58:20.
worked out that his savings is 0.01%. You may as well keep it | :58:20. | :58:24.
under the bed. And lots of tweets about you in a | :58:24. | :58:29.
skirt. Keep in touch with us at: | :58:29. | :58:39.
:58:39. | :58:40. | ||
Or write to us at: Great ankles! That is all from | :58:40. | :58:43. |
