I'm Lucy Owen. And I'm Rhodri Owen. You are watching X-Ray. | :00:07. | :00:11.
Tonight, parishioners raised tens of thousands to do up this church. | :00:11. | :00:16.
But, 18 months after the builders left, it looks like this. | :00:16. | :00:19.
The tornado that left this woman without a proper phone line for | :00:19. | :00:23.
almost a year. And the free solar panels that | :00:24. | :00:33.
:00:34. | :00:45. | ||
ended up costing one woman 20,000. Tonight, we are in Llandudno. We | :00:45. | :00:49.
have grabbed a little bit of sunshine. The unpredictable Welsh | :00:49. | :00:52.
weather is one good reason why some couples have to glamorous foreign | :00:52. | :00:59.
locations for their wedding. It rained on our wedding day. You | :00:59. | :01:02.
might guarantee the sunshine, but will you get the marriage | :01:02. | :01:10.
certificate? More about that later. We get a lot of calls about | :01:10. | :01:15.
builders but it is not every day the Church in Wales complained | :01:15. | :01:19.
about one. Rachel has been investigating. At their heads of | :01:19. | :01:26.
the valleys, the weather is harsh. To build a church strong enough to | :01:26. | :01:30.
withstand the wind and rain, you need a hard rock like granite. But | :01:30. | :01:38.
the parishioners to build St David's in Abercrave in 1912 | :01:38. | :01:43.
preferred soft Bath stone. 100 years later, this is crumbling away | :01:43. | :01:48.
and the Church of had to call in builders. Enter a church | :01:48. | :01:55.
restoration specialist Daniel Hussey. He charged over 35,000. | :01:55. | :02:00.
The because says he was promised the repairs would last 30 years. | :02:00. | :02:05.
But it was not going to turn out that way. Not only that, the | :02:05. | :02:09.
builder brought the church and congregation unerringly into | :02:10. | :02:17.
contact in -- with dark forces. -- not knowingly. Alun Brookfield has | :02:17. | :02:22.
been vicar for nine years. The repairs were part of a project to | :02:22. | :02:29.
build a village community centre. It was huge. In seven years we | :02:29. | :02:35.
raised 62,000 from the efforts of local people doing strange and | :02:35. | :02:40.
wacky and normal things. We delivered a tube of Smarties to | :02:40. | :02:44.
everybody in the village and asked them to fill it with 20 pence | :02:44. | :02:49.
pieces. The children held a sponsored teddy bear bungee-jump | :02:49. | :02:56.
off the church tower. Alan and his wife Mary carried across to same | :02:56. | :03:04.
David's in Pembrokeshire, 85 miles. Everyone got involved because this | :03:04. | :03:07.
building is important and also because there is no community | :03:07. | :03:13.
facility at this end of the parish. The time frame, what we are looking | :03:13. | :03:18.
at? We looked to have it done in time for the centenary on July 15th. | :03:18. | :03:23.
That will not happen, it will be put back because of the incompetent | :03:23. | :03:29.
workmanship. Daniel Hussey's repairs went up two years ago and | :03:29. | :03:35.
six months later, they began to crumble. What Daniel did is | :03:35. | :03:40.
cracking. It is parting company with an based all over the church. | :03:40. | :03:48.
There is a massive bit, waiting to drop. It is dangerous and why we | :03:48. | :03:53.
cannot start to build the community centre. This area is where people | :03:53. | :03:57.
would enter the centre. Until we can be sure there is no stonework | :03:57. | :04:04.
falling, we cannot start building. What has the builder done wrong? | :04:04. | :04:11.
Kevin Tom's -- Kevin Thomas is a regular expert witness avail. | :04:11. | :04:18.
Daniel replaced the missing stone with mortar, but Kevin said that he | :04:18. | :04:24.
should have used actual stone. What about the way he has done it? | :04:24. | :04:32.
contractor has not stuck to his own specification. This is loose. We | :04:32. | :04:37.
can see that appears to be copper radiator pipe work, rather than | :04:37. | :04:43.
phosphor bronze dowel. Or even stainless-steel mesh, included in | :04:43. | :04:48.
his quotation. In addition, looking at the stonework, I do not believe | :04:48. | :04:55.
it was stabilised properly before the mortar repair. It would have | :04:56. | :05:02.
helped it to bond. He has a case to answer? Definitely. I also think | :05:02. | :05:07.
somebody has signed it off. Why did they approve the specification? | :05:07. | :05:12.
method of fixing the stonework was drawn up by Daniel Hussey and an | :05:12. | :05:16.
architect hired by the church she supervised the work. He said he was | :05:16. | :05:20.
happy with what he saw. The plans were approved by the Church in | :05:20. | :05:28.
Wales. If that was a mistake, it was an honest mistake and innocent. | :05:28. | :05:35.
It appeared to be a feasible option. To be fair, we did our best to | :05:35. | :05:40.
supervise the repairs. Making sure they were using the right materials | :05:40. | :05:45.
and doing as they were contracted to do. When Daniel Hussey's and | :05:45. | :05:48.
water started to crumble, Alun Brookfield started to chase him. | :05:49. | :05:53.
The builder said he would return to fix the flaky stare work, first in | :05:53. | :05:58.
the spring and then in the summer. -- stonework. But he wanted more | :05:58. | :06:04.
money and when he realised he was not getting it, he disappeared. | :06:04. | :06:10.
That is when Alun Brookfield called in X-Ray and we checked him out. | :06:10. | :06:14.
Daniel's firm Building Conservation UK was already being wound up, the | :06:14. | :06:18.
latest in a long line of companies he has run. Three firms still | :06:19. | :06:25.
operate, including a new one called Church Restoration UK Ltd. That | :06:25. | :06:29.
wasn't all we found because alongside his building was a very | :06:29. | :06:37.
different kind of job. Paranormal occult investigator. While Daniel | :06:37. | :06:40.
Hussey has been trying to fix churches, the same man has gone | :06:40. | :06:47.
under the name Magus Lynius Shadee, a witch. In fact, the builder based | :06:47. | :06:56.
he is the king of the witches. Press reports show that he has a | :06:56. | :07:01.
history of angering Christians. By announcing plans to open occult | :07:01. | :07:09.
shops. In 1989 he came to black wood. Over 1,000 banner-waving | :07:09. | :07:14.
Christians marched against his plans to bring a shop there. In | :07:14. | :07:22.
1991 he popped up in Aberystwyth, with occult read out on his mind | :07:22. | :07:25.
and he challenged churches saying if he could raise up the ghost, | :07:25. | :07:32.
they should give him 250,000. If he could not, he would not open a | :07:32. | :07:38.
shop there. In April this year he ignited controversy again with a | :07:38. | :07:45.
scheme to open another occult shop, this time in Bristol. How do you | :07:45. | :07:51.
feel about someone of his beliefs working on churches? There is an | :07:51. | :07:55.
apparent contradiction between being involved in the occult and | :07:55. | :07:59.
working on churches and that would probably make me ask hard questions | :07:59. | :08:04.
than I did ask because I took him at face value without being aware | :08:04. | :08:13.
of his beliefs. But regardless of his beliefs, all the Church wants | :08:13. | :08:18.
to see is the repairs put right so they can build a community centre. | :08:18. | :08:23.
The very disappointed. People would like me to say I was angry, I have | :08:23. | :08:27.
never been angry, but I am disappointed because so many people | :08:27. | :08:32.
put so many hopes in the project and there were so many | :08:32. | :08:36.
possibilities and suddenly we must set back a long way. | :08:36. | :08:40.
That is really sad and the congregation work so hard to get | :08:40. | :08:44.
the cash and they are back to square one. Daniel Hussey seems to | :08:44. | :08:49.
be in no rush to fix the problems. We tracked him to south London but | :08:49. | :08:53.
he is refusing to answer our questions. If you have problems he | :08:53. | :09:03.
:09:03. | :09:07. | ||
would like us to look into, getting Remember to include your daytime | :09:07. | :09:17.
:09:17. | :09:19. | ||
telephone number. We are also on Twitter. | :09:19. | :09:25.
Today, we are in beautiful Llandudno and there is a new site | :09:25. | :09:29.
on the promenade, cyclists. Cycles were banned in the 1870s when it | :09:29. | :09:33.
was built, but the council has agreed to allow them for a trial | :09:33. | :09:38.
period. There is no cycle track and cyclists mingle with pedestrians. | :09:38. | :09:42.
Not everybody is happy. You are from the Civic Trust, what is the | :09:42. | :09:47.
problem? It is safety. We have elderly people who are possibly | :09:47. | :09:51.
hard of hearing and young children who run around without seeing | :09:51. | :09:57.
things and I think there is an issue. Cycling and pedestrians do | :09:57. | :10:03.
not mix. You are from a cyclists Touring Club, what are members | :10:03. | :10:08.
think? You are in more danger in ten minutes on Marston Street than | :10:08. | :10:13.
you are likely to be on this national cycle route. They are not | :10:13. | :10:20.
a threat as suggested. Thank you for your views. I wonder what other | :10:20. | :10:27.
people in Llandudno think. It is a public safety issue if it is full | :10:27. | :10:32.
of people you cannot have cyclists. They never use them Bells. I would | :10:32. | :10:37.
have thought the promenade is wide enough to cope with cyclists. As | :10:37. | :10:41.
long as they are courteous and thoughtful. People like to stroll | :10:42. | :10:47.
along and if you have to be aware of cyclists, I would be against it. | :10:47. | :10:50.
It is nice driving along the promenade but you must use your | :10:51. | :10:57.
common sense, if it is too crowded. It is a beautiful promenade for | :10:57. | :11:05.
cyclists. Does it worry you that there are cyclists around? No. | :11:05. | :11:12.
long as they are not mad. Strong feelings in Llandudno, but what | :11:12. | :11:17.
about way you live? Should cyclists be welcomed in places like this, or | :11:17. | :11:23.
should they stick to the roads? Next, couples often dream of luxury | :11:23. | :11:29.
weddings on Caribbean beaches, but there can be pitfalls. | :11:29. | :11:36.
A wedding in paradise. Sunshine, beaches and romance make for the | :11:36. | :11:41.
dream wedding. That is what appeals to Tina and Adrian from Cardiff. | :11:41. | :11:46.
They married in the Dominican Republic in 20th October 10. | :11:47. | :11:51.
have been together ten years and had planned the wedding for a while | :11:51. | :11:55.
and we thought it would be lovely to go away. The family came, to | :11:55. | :12:03.
make it a holiday as well as a wedding. Can I see the photographs? | :12:03. | :12:09.
You look absolutely gorgeous. Tell me about the day? It was magical, | :12:09. | :12:14.
everything we could have dreamt of and more. The wedding co-ordinator | :12:14. | :12:22.
was fantastic. How everything was set, it was perfect. This looks | :12:22. | :12:27.
like where it was being made official, when you are signing? | :12:27. | :12:35.
was, the signing of the register. It looks a dream day. You went away | :12:35. | :12:40.
as this Morris and came back as Mrs Ford. We thought that would be the | :12:40. | :12:46.
case, but not, because we have not received our wedding certificate. I | :12:47. | :12:52.
am still miss Morris. It has been two years and October. The wedding | :12:52. | :12:57.
certificate has been lost. It has been frustrating. How has it | :12:57. | :13:03.
affected you? Lots of things. I cannot change my passport, my | :13:03. | :13:08.
driving licence, and I am technically not Mrs Ford. When you | :13:08. | :13:13.
get married it is part of the excitement, changing your name. It | :13:13. | :13:22.
is not as if we are a married The original marriage certificate | :13:22. | :13:27.
was drawn up in the Dominican Republic. But 4,000 miles away in | :13:27. | :13:33.
England, it was rejected because Tina's maiden name had been | :13:33. | :13:37.
misspelt. Tina and Adrian booked with Thompson and the wedding party | :13:37. | :13:42.
spent around 20,000. 20 months on, they still don't have the marriage | :13:42. | :13:48.
certificate. Helping to try and sort things out has been Tina's | :13:48. | :13:53.
aunt Rosemary. Has it been getting them down do you think? Yes. When | :13:53. | :13:57.
you're not getting anywhere, I mean, we've tried so hard. You've been | :13:57. | :14:04.
trying to help her, haven't you? Yes. What did you do? I've been | :14:04. | :14:07.
into Thompsons I don't know how many times. I've sent e-mails as | :14:07. | :14:12.
well in the last few weeks. I've spoken to Thompsons office. You get | :14:12. | :14:16.
the same story, you know, we're trying, we're doing our best, but | :14:17. | :14:22.
there's not a lot we can do. Tina and Adrian are getting increasingly | :14:22. | :14:26.
worried by the delays. They are legally married, but for many | :14:26. | :14:30.
things they need to prove it. So they need to get a copy of the | :14:30. | :14:35.
certificate sent from the Caribbean, not as seizey as it sounds. In | :14:35. | :14:40.
March the couple called in X-Ray. Thompson said they had a lawyer on | :14:40. | :14:43.
the case and the certificate should be with them by the end of the | :14:43. | :14:49.
month. At this point a member of the wedding support team told X-Ray | :14:49. | :14:55.
"We're thrilled we've managed to help Mr and Mrs Forward -- Ford | :14:55. | :14:58.
speed up the process of getting their certificate. Happy days. How | :14:58. | :15:02.
did you feel when they said finally it's on its way? I had the phone | :15:02. | :15:06.
call and yeah, I was over the moon, really excited. It just felt like | :15:06. | :15:10.
all of it, it would be an end of everything. We could go ahead now | :15:10. | :15:14.
and change our names. The children were excited as well. It has | :15:14. | :15:20.
affected them as well. # Stop, whoa yes, wait a minute Mr | :15:20. | :15:24.
Postman... # Tina waited for the postman, but | :15:24. | :15:27.
the certificate never came. assumed it would be a couple of | :15:27. | :15:31.
days and it would be with us. A couple of days went by and it still | :15:31. | :15:37.
wasn't, than a week and two. And you just feel deflated again. | :15:37. | :15:41.
months after the wedding, the marriage certificate finally flew | :15:41. | :15:49.
across the Atlantic from the doe minical republic, arriving -- | :15:49. | :15:53.
Dominican Republic, arriving safely at Thompson HQ. It was on the final | :15:53. | :15:58.
leg to Cardiff that the certificate went AWOL. Tina and Adrian are back | :15:58. | :16:04.
to square one. Tina, this is where you live. Where was your | :16:04. | :16:07.
certificate delivered? Just down the road. No! Can you show me? | :16:07. | :16:12.
sure. It turns out that the certificate had been posted to the | :16:12. | :16:21.
wrong address. Just here it was delivered. In this block of flats. | :16:21. | :16:26.
So literally. Just 30 seconds where were you live. Yeah. Until a few | :16:26. | :16:32.
weeks ago these flats were boarded up. Nobody has seen the certificate. | :16:33. | :16:37.
What's it going to be like as you come to celebrate your second | :16:37. | :16:40.
anniversary? It's still the unknown, will we have our wedding | :16:41. | :16:45.
certificate? Will we be Mr and Mrs Ford? We just don't know. It's | :16:45. | :16:50.
taken this long, I'm just hoping it won't take another year to come. | :16:50. | :16:57.
you think you will get it? I hope so. I hope so, because it feels | :16:57. | :17:02.
otherwise as if all of it's, not been for nothing, but as if you | :17:02. | :17:07.
haven't got the end bit of the jigsaw in a way. | :17:07. | :17:11.
Such a frustrating situation. You've got to feel sorry for Tina | :17:11. | :17:14.
and Adrian. Now Thompson have apologised and say they're doing | :17:14. | :17:17.
everything they can to get another marriage certificate but still have | :17:17. | :17:21.
no idea how long that could take. Hopefully they won't have to wait | :17:21. | :17:28.
that long. Now last week we were down south in Blaenau Gwent where | :17:28. | :17:32.
the Council have handed out fines for littering at 75 each. Loads of | :17:32. | :17:37.
you have been in touch, Mike Rose is sick of litter around his area. | :17:37. | :17:42.
Well done he said. David says litter bugs should be offered the | :17:42. | :17:47.
choice of a fine or being made to pick up other people's litter. | :17:47. | :17:50.
Clive says that he knows of a man who was fined for dropping a | :17:50. | :17:55.
cigarette end from the top of a ladder. Which he thinks is a little | :17:55. | :18:00.
bit harsh. And one Council worker from Ebbw Vale, who didn't want to | :18:00. | :18:04.
be named, says the patrol should be out in the evening when people drop | :18:04. | :18:07.
takeaway wrappers. Lots of interesting stuff there. Plenty of | :18:07. | :18:17.
:18:17. | :18:19. | ||
opinions. Next, Lucy's on the case. Beryl likes a gnater with friends | :18:19. | :18:22.
and family. But a freak storm last year cut her off. Her son Gavin was | :18:22. | :18:32.
:18:32. | :18:34. | ||
forced to get in touch. Hi Lucy. My mother's had a terrible problem | :18:34. | :18:38.
with the telephone line for nine months. Hope you can sort something | :18:38. | :18:43.
out for her with BT. I'm on the case. | :18:43. | :18:49.
Last summer the Gwent valleys hit the headlines when a mini tornado | :18:49. | :18:52.
swept through its villages. As debris went flying something | :18:53. | :18:59.
knocked out Beryl's phone line. A number of properties have been | :18:59. | :19:02.
damaged following stormy weather. Roofs of several homes were exposed | :19:02. | :19:07.
after tiles were ripped off in both Crumlin and nearby Newbridge. | :19:07. | :19:11.
flats roof was blown off a building causing damage to neighbouring | :19:11. | :19:14.
properties. It landed on the road. It shot up the road there like a | :19:14. | :19:21.
train. Something out of a movie, unbelievable. Now in her 80s, the | :19:21. | :19:26.
phone is a life line for Gavin's mum Beryl. But it's been nine | :19:26. | :19:30.
months since the storm struck and she's been without a permanent land | :19:30. | :19:33.
line since. Do you remember the day that the storm and the tornado hit | :19:33. | :19:39.
here? Tell me what it was like. was terrific rain and blowing. I | :19:39. | :19:48.
think the full force came up the streets. I didn't even realise my | :19:48. | :19:52.
house had been damaged. How due feel then when you realised that | :19:52. | :19:59.
you were cut off? Well, I thought it wouldn't be any time before they | :19:59. | :20:06.
put it right. But, I truly thought wrong! It must have been a bit of a | :20:06. | :20:10.
worry for you when the phone line was down. Were you concerned? | :20:10. | :20:17.
was very difficult. We could only make contact by ringing a neighbour | :20:17. | :20:20.
and my wife would pop in each day from school and see if everything | :20:20. | :20:29.
was OK on the way home. I realise now how isolated I am. It's made me | :20:29. | :20:36.
almost more nervous, because I always felt very safe in this house. | :20:36. | :20:41.
Gavin bought Beryl a mobile phone. But it was difficult for her to use. | :20:41. | :20:45.
Then BT set up a temporary line, but any hint of bad weather would | :20:45. | :20:50.
leave it crackling terribly. So where is this telegraph pole that's | :20:50. | :20:55.
been causing the problems. That one just there is causing the problems. | :20:55. | :21:00.
The problem's been that they can't get permission to get onto Network | :21:00. | :21:04.
Rail property because it's on their property. They say they can't get a | :21:04. | :21:08.
reply from them to get permission for the line. That's why it's | :21:08. | :21:12.
taking all this line. What do you think of the way BT have handled | :21:12. | :21:16.
the situation. They say it will be repaired in four weeks. They come | :21:16. | :21:20.
and go, another four weeks and we're given another date. Nothing | :21:20. | :21:23.
happens then. It's been almost nine months. What would you like me to | :21:23. | :21:28.
try and do? Make BT repair the line or give us a new line. I'm on the | :21:28. | :21:33.
case. Well, this has been a tough one to | :21:33. | :21:38.
solve. We wrote to BT and Network Rail, who said that health and | :21:38. | :21:41.
safety rules mean that the telegraph pole couldn't be repaired | :21:41. | :21:46.
without the railway line being closed. BT said they'd be asking | :21:46. | :21:51.
for permission for months, but Network Rail claimed they'd heard | :21:51. | :21:56.
nothing. After we got in contact, a date was set. But we piled on the | :21:56. | :22:00.
pressure and BT sent another engineer round to Beryl's house and | :22:00. | :22:03.
he simply fixed the phone line up to a neighbouring property, there | :22:03. | :22:08.
and then. BT has apologised for the delay. | :22:08. | :22:12.
They've also paid out for Beryl's mobile phone and credited her | :22:12. | :22:18.
account with six months' line rental, that's 213.40 in total. | :22:18. | :22:25.
Excuse me. Is that Lucy? Hello, sounds like | :22:25. | :22:30.
your phone's working really well. I'm just ringing to thank you for | :22:30. | :22:34.
all your help. I very much appreciate the efforts you put in | :22:34. | :22:38.
on my behave. Thank you very much indeed. You're welcome. You take | :22:38. | :22:47.
care. Bye. And that's another case closed. | :22:47. | :22:51.
Great result. They got their Fonebak and a little bit of | :22:51. | :22:54.
compensation too. Good news for Beryl. If you'd like us to look | :22:54. | :23:00.
Beryl. If you'd like us to look into us, give us a call: Or e-mail | :23:00. | :23:03.
us too. Don't forget to include a daytime | :23:03. | :23:08.
phone number. All those contact details are on the website too. | :23:08. | :23:12.
Somebody you helped earlier this year has been back in touch with | :23:12. | :23:14.
another problem. Unfortunately this another problem. Unfortunately this | :23:14. | :23:22.
one wasn't so easy to solve. Wouldn't it be great to know every | :23:22. | :23:27.
time you flicked a switch in your home, the electricity you were | :23:27. | :23:31.
using was free. Thanks to a government backed schemes | :23:31. | :23:35.
households across the country are having free solar systems fitted by | :23:35. | :23:38.
Homesun. Free solar panels that give you free energy for your home | :23:38. | :23:43.
and could cut your electricity bill by a third. With great energy deals | :23:43. | :23:47.
on offer, houses like these ones are becoming a common site, but if | :23:47. | :23:52.
you don't have thousands of pounds to buy the panels outright, you can | :23:52. | :23:57.
rent your roof out instead. This way, a company will install the | :23:57. | :24:03.
panels for free, they'll get paid for the energy and you'll get free | :24:03. | :24:10.
electricity in the daytime. Sounds like a win/win situation. Right? | :24:10. | :24:13.
Colette Chilcott from Bridgend was featured on X-Ray before when she | :24:14. | :24:19.
had problems with a computer. Last year, Collet signed a lease with | :24:19. | :24:23.
Homesun limited. Weeks later, 16 solar panels were installed on her | :24:23. | :24:27.
roof. She was receiving free electricity during the day and was | :24:27. | :24:32.
happy with the deal. But at the same time she signed the lease, her | :24:32. | :24:35.
house was up for sale. So any buyers would have to take the lease | :24:35. | :24:42.
on. Would they be as keen to rent their roof out? I luckily had a | :24:42. | :24:49.
buyer last September. But we hit a few hitches, one being the solar | :24:49. | :24:54.
panels. What was the upshot? took us three to four weeks to get | :24:54. | :25:00.
the building regs certificate sorted. In the meantime by buyers' | :25:00. | :25:05.
buyers couldn't wait any longer and pulled out. Did the first buyers' | :25:05. | :25:09.
solicitors have concerns? They did. They asked questions about the | :25:09. | :25:15.
solar panels, especially the lease. Collet locked herself into a 25- | :25:15. | :25:20.
year lease with dozens of clauses. From now on she would need to ask | :25:20. | :25:25.
to carry out repairs on her roof. She had to make sure the flow of | :25:25. | :25:29.
sunlight to the panels wasn't obstructed. If she wanted to get | :25:29. | :25:37.
out of the lease early she would have to buy the panels outright. In | :25:37. | :25:41.
January, the house went back on the market at a reduced price. It | :25:41. | :25:45.
wasn't long before it sparked the interest of another house hunter. | :25:45. | :25:49.
Collet started to pack up her belongings ready for the move, but | :25:49. | :25:53.
once again, the solar panels had her buyers cooling off. I think | :25:53. | :25:57.
when her solicitor looked at the lease and everything, that's when | :25:57. | :26:02.
things started to go wrong. Then we found out that her lender weren't | :26:02. | :26:06.
happy with the lease. What did you have to do really to get her to | :26:06. | :26:12.
buy? Basically, what we have to do is buy the solar panels. It's the | :26:12. | :26:16.
only way that we can do it so that she can get rid of the lease. | :26:16. | :26:21.
much is that costing? It's going to cost just under 20,000 to do that. | :26:21. | :26:25.
Is that something that she's footing? No, we're sharing the cost. | :26:25. | :26:31.
How do you feel about that idea? I'm absolutely gutted by it. I | :26:31. | :26:34.
can't believe how little I'm getting for the house. When I first | :26:34. | :26:42.
put it on the market in March 2010 it was 285,000, now I'm down to | :26:42. | :26:46.
173,000. But it's the only way I can move. Homesun say the buy-out | :26:46. | :26:50.
clause in their lease is designed to stop any problems during a house | :26:50. | :26:54.
sale and that 90% of mortgage lenders do accept their lease. | :26:54. | :26:59.
Since getting the panels installed, the value of Collet's house has | :26:59. | :27:02.
plummeted. Should home owners think twice before signing up to this | :27:02. | :27:10.
type of solar scheme? Chartered sur Tony Filice says it's better to | :27:10. | :27:15.
play it safe. I think every owner before they contemplate having | :27:15. | :27:19.
solar panels should have their -- do their home work. On taib three | :27:20. | :27:23.
estimates for the cost of insulation, with copies of the | :27:23. | :27:28.
lease terms. Once you have that information, to contact your | :27:28. | :27:32.
solicitor, to go through the lease terms and see if there are issues | :27:32. | :27:38.
or points of concern. How do you feel about the solar panels now | :27:38. | :27:42.
then and your decision to go for them? They were a fantastic | :27:42. | :27:46.
initiative, but I just wish I hadn't bothered. Because the lease | :27:46. | :27:50.
side of things, I just wish I hadn't bothered. I would have sold | :27:50. | :27:55.
last November if I hadn't had the panels. The good news is that the | :27:55. | :27:58.
sale has now gone through and Collet has moved house. But it's | :27:58. | :28:03.
been a very stressful, not to mention, expensive experience. | :28:03. | :28:06.
Another reminder to always check the small print especially if | :28:06. | :28:10.
you're signing up to one of those schemes. That's all we have time | :28:10. | :28:13.
for tonight. If there's anything you'd like us to look into, give us | :28:13. | :28:19.
a call or e-mail us. Next week we're back to our usual time of | :28:19. | :28:26. |
