Why are you walking away? In every
corner of Wales we investigate scams | 0:00:08 | 0:00:20
and rip-offs, bad service and dodgy
deals. If you have been conned out | 0:00:20 | 0:00:27
of your hard earned cash... We are
here... On your side. Fighting for | 0:00:27 | 0:00:35
your rights. Fighting for you. This
is X Ray. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:49
On tonight's programme, we put taxi
firms to the test. Can I order a | 0:00:50 | 0:00:57
wheelchair accessible cab, please.
To see how tricky it is for people | 0:00:57 | 0:01:01
with disabilities to get a cab. That
is really shocking. The home owners | 0:01:01 | 0:01:09
who paid for extensions but their
builders' promises were not the only | 0:01:09 | 0:01:13
things left looking shaky. The whole
roof could have collapsed into the | 0:01:13 | 0:01:18
bedroom, bringing everything down.
And who has been telling porkies? We | 0:01:18 | 0:01:25
meet the micro pigs that do not stay
small for long. They grow up to be | 0:01:25 | 0:01:30
about 15 kilo animal. Would you
really want one of those running | 0:01:30 | 0:01:34
around your house? Welcome to the
programme. I am here at Folly farm | 0:01:34 | 0:01:42
in Pembrokeshire where they have all
kinds of animals from the everyday | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
to the exotic. When it comes to
choosing a pet for yourself, it | 0:01:45 | 0:01:51
really does pay to do your homework.
More on that later. First, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:56
travelling by taxi is something most
of us take for granted, but how easy | 0:01:56 | 0:02:01
is it if you are in a wheelchair? We
sent Omar to investigate. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:09
Ayesha Khan lives in Newport South
Wales and on the campus full time. I | 0:02:09 | 0:02:16
enjoyed it, it is a good college and
it is an interesting course. I have | 0:02:16 | 0:02:22
a group of friends and I sit with
them in class and I go out with them | 0:02:22 | 0:02:30
on break. Although born with spina
bifida, Ayesha is keen to live as | 0:02:30 | 0:02:34
independently as possible. I am 21
now and at that age everyone wants | 0:02:34 | 0:02:40
to go out and talk to people. I am
just exactly the same. Ayesha lives | 0:02:40 | 0:02:48
in Newport with her mother and also
campaigns for wheelchair users' | 0:02:48 | 0:02:52
writes. But for her to be
independent she needs one thing, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:57
access to taxis. For me and you that
might be something we take for | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
granted, but for disabled people it
can be a real issue. It is hard | 0:03:01 | 0:03:07
getting a black cab because you have
got to book in advance and at other | 0:03:07 | 0:03:12
times there are problems fitting me
into the actual cab and others say | 0:03:12 | 0:03:16
no. Some drivers will say I cannot
help you? Some will just drive off. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:25
And on top of this everyday
discrimination, Ayesha suffered a | 0:03:25 | 0:03:30
painful injury when a hackney cab
driver braked hard on the M4 whilst | 0:03:30 | 0:03:35
failing to secure her wheelchair. I
hurt my back and my neck. Halfway | 0:03:35 | 0:03:43
through the course I had to leave
and take a year off. It was because | 0:03:43 | 0:03:51
of that. I met up with some of her
friends to see what they think of | 0:03:51 | 0:03:57
her treatment at the hands of some
taxi drivers. Is it unfair that it | 0:03:57 | 0:04:01
is hard for her to socialise with
you and see you? Yes, it is bad for | 0:04:01 | 0:04:06
a leash. She has not had the same
opportunities? It is hard for her to | 0:04:06 | 0:04:14
socialise with us, but we encourage
her to come out. We decided to do an | 0:04:14 | 0:04:20
experiment to test whether
passengers with disabilities are at | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
a disadvantage when it comes to
getting a cab. Can you give me the | 0:04:23 | 0:04:28
number for a taxi, please? Can I
order a wheelchair accessible cab, | 0:04:28 | 0:04:34
please? We picked several firms,
large and small. I ordered a regular | 0:04:34 | 0:04:42
taxi and Ayesha asked for a
wheelchair accessible cab. Let's see | 0:04:42 | 0:04:46
how weak got on. Thank you for your
help. They all said they had | 0:04:46 | 0:04:53
something for me straightaway. Was
it different for you? A lot said | 0:04:53 | 0:04:58
there were no cameras around to take
me and one even suggested I ring | 0:04:58 | 0:05:01
someone else. A lot of the companies
said no one was available and one | 0:05:01 | 0:05:06
company said you should go to a
competitor rather than take your | 0:05:06 | 0:05:12
business? Yes. That is really
shocking. If this was a real | 0:05:12 | 0:05:17
situation where you needed a taxi,
we do not know if you would be able | 0:05:17 | 0:05:21
to get one. I am really shocked to
hear that. Up until now there has | 0:05:21 | 0:05:26
been very little people like Ayesha
can do if they feel they have been | 0:05:26 | 0:05:31
discriminated against by a taxi
driver. But earlier this year a | 0:05:31 | 0:05:35
change to the Equality Act 2010 made
this kind of discrimination illegal. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:47
Drivers who refuse to transport
wheelchair users or try to charge | 0:05:47 | 0:05:50
them extra, now face a fine of up to
£1000 and can even lose their | 0:05:50 | 0:05:53
licence. The main problem is this
legislation only applies to register | 0:05:53 | 0:05:58
drivers of accessible vehicles on a
list. The legislation does not force | 0:05:58 | 0:06:03
councils to maintain such a list. It
just recommends that they do. We | 0:06:03 | 0:06:10
contacted all 22 local authorities
in Wales and discovered eight | 0:06:10 | 0:06:14
councils had published their section
167 list by the October deadline. | 0:06:14 | 0:06:20
It's councils intend to publish
their list by the end of 2017. Eight | 0:06:20 | 0:06:26
councils do not plan to publish
their lists until after the New | 0:06:26 | 0:06:29
Year. It is a situation that has
left leading disability rights | 0:06:29 | 0:06:36
activists like Doug Paulley angry.
He feels the new law only goes | 0:06:36 | 0:06:39
partway to solving the problem. This
is what I do not understand, why | 0:06:39 | 0:06:45
doesn't the government make it
mandatory, a cast iron law? There is | 0:06:45 | 0:06:54
the disability discrimination act in
1995, but it has never started, so | 0:06:54 | 0:07:00
it has been 22 years and now it is
in place it is fundamentally flawed. | 0:07:00 | 0:07:06
You might almost get the impression
that they are not really bothered | 0:07:06 | 0:07:11
about enforcing disabled people's
writes. Ayesha Homs city of Newport | 0:07:11 | 0:07:17
is one of the areas that has a list
of accessible taxis. It means if she | 0:07:17 | 0:07:23
suffers discrimination in future
there is at least a means of seeking | 0:07:23 | 0:07:26
justice. She is hoping it will help
change attitudes on the ground. | 0:07:26 | 0:07:35
Taxis are really important to me
because that is the only way I can | 0:07:35 | 0:07:39
get around to college, socialise
with people. Without that I would be | 0:07:39 | 0:07:45
stuck. I do not want to go out and
have this headache, I just want to | 0:07:45 | 0:07:52
be helped. If this is something you
have experience, or if there is | 0:07:52 | 0:07:56
anything else you think we should be
investigating, give us a call. Or | 0:07:56 | 0:08:00
drop us an e-mail to the usual
address. Still to come: The building | 0:08:00 | 0:08:06
firm that left customers with
unfinished business. That is what I | 0:08:06 | 0:08:11
am left with, it makes me really
angry. Do you know the real cost of | 0:08:11 | 0:08:17
keeping a pet. What about a dog?
Lots and lots. 6000. That is an | 0:08:17 | 0:08:23
expensive rabbit. We are a nation of
animal lovers and many of us share | 0:08:23 | 0:08:30
our home with a furry animal two,
but how would you feel about a pet | 0:08:30 | 0:08:35
pig? Pigs are intelligent and social
animals. Although you are more | 0:08:35 | 0:08:42
likely to find one in a farmyard
than in your front room. But in | 0:08:42 | 0:08:47
recent years breeders claim to have
come up with something that could | 0:08:47 | 0:08:50
change all that, the microbe paid.
They are miniature versions and | 0:08:50 | 0:08:56
billed as being no bigger than a
small dog, ideally suited to live in | 0:08:56 | 0:09:01
your garden or even in your house.
Dashed microbe paid. Also known as | 0:09:01 | 0:09:09
teacup pigs or pint-size pigs, a
spate of celebrity owner is added to | 0:09:09 | 0:09:14
their appeal. Pretty soon they were
hogging the limelight. But there was | 0:09:14 | 0:09:20
a problem. These petite piglets were
not staying chipper latter sized for | 0:09:20 | 0:09:25
long. This little piggy is Hammy, a
microbe paid who outgrew all | 0:09:25 | 0:09:38
expectations. When he was rescued
four years ago, he was small enough | 0:09:38 | 0:09:42
to be kept in a small pen in their
garden. I rescued him from a couple | 0:09:42 | 0:09:49
that did no research whatsoever.
Lived in rented accommodation and | 0:09:49 | 0:09:53
did not get the landlord's
permission. But Hammy soon grew too | 0:09:53 | 0:10:00
big for the couple's garden and was
making a right pig's year of things. | 0:10:00 | 0:10:07
Pig is a lot stronger I thought or
that anyone would think. Hammy was | 0:10:07 | 0:10:13
soon destroying fencing and breaking
loose. But things got more serious | 0:10:13 | 0:10:19
when he attacked a neighbour who
needed hospital treatment. I | 0:10:19 | 0:10:25
personally felt like I had let him
down. I rescued him from a bad place | 0:10:25 | 0:10:30
and he looks like he is in another
bad players, but not through my | 0:10:30 | 0:10:33
fault or his fault. He was just in
unfortunate circumstances. He had | 0:10:33 | 0:10:42
outgrown their small garden and they
urgently needed Hammy re-homed, but | 0:10:42 | 0:10:46
who would take him in? We spoke to a
number of sanctuaries and community | 0:10:46 | 0:10:53
farms across Wales. All of them told
us they are at capacity and | 0:10:53 | 0:10:57
inundated with calls from people
trying to re-home they're not so | 0:10:57 | 0:11:02
small pigs. Some said they were
contacted almost weekly by people | 0:11:02 | 0:11:06
with pigs they could no longer look
after. One of these sanctuaries is | 0:11:06 | 0:11:12
All Creatures Great And Small. They
rescue a variety of animals from | 0:11:12 | 0:11:18
cats and dogs to sheep and, of
course, pigs. Annette Hale looks | 0:11:18 | 0:11:27
after animal welfare at the
sanctuary and has first-hand | 0:11:27 | 0:11:29
experience of dealing with so-called
tiny pigs. Who is this? This is | 0:11:29 | 0:11:34
Percy. He has been with us just
three years in December. He came to | 0:11:34 | 0:11:42
us as a small paid. How big did the
owners think he was going to be? | 0:11:42 | 0:11:49
They are classed as big as a
Chihuahua or something like that. | 0:11:49 | 0:11:53
They thought he was going to be
Chihuahua size? Oh, my word. He | 0:11:53 | 0:11:58
stays in this area and I can see
what has happened to the ground. | 0:11:58 | 0:12:03
Would this happen to a garden? In a
garden it would be worse because at | 0:12:03 | 0:12:08
least here they have access to a
larger field 24 hours a day. So you | 0:12:08 | 0:12:13
can see that even though they have
got access to that, this one is | 0:12:13 | 0:12:17
still being churned up and it is
still really muddy. A quick Internet | 0:12:17 | 0:12:24
search shows these pics for sale all
over Wales on multiple websites from | 0:12:24 | 0:12:29
official breeders to even Facebook.
But it turns out there is confusion | 0:12:29 | 0:12:33
over what one actually is. The net,
is a microbe pig and actual breed? | 0:12:33 | 0:12:42
No, it is not. They are usually
potbellied pigs and it is usually | 0:12:42 | 0:12:48
from smaller parents, but you still
cannot guarantee it, because the | 0:12:48 | 0:12:51
parents could have been larger. You
cannot guarantee they will remain as | 0:12:51 | 0:12:57
a small pig. Generally they grow up
to be about the 50 kilo animal. | 0:12:57 | 0:13:02
Would you really want one of those
running round your house? But | 0:13:02 | 0:13:07
whether because they are being
wrongly sold as small pigs or simply | 0:13:07 | 0:13:11
because their owners did not realise
they would grow beyond teacup sized, | 0:13:11 | 0:13:16
it seems pigs who have outgrown
their pet status are now being given | 0:13:16 | 0:13:20
up across Wales and beyond.
Fortunately for Nick and duly there | 0:13:20 | 0:13:26
was good news. Hammy was re-homed at
this animal sanctuary in Ludlow | 0:13:26 | 0:13:30
where he is much happier. Nick and
Julie visit him as much as they can | 0:13:30 | 0:13:36
and by the looks of it, Hammy is as
excited about this reunion as they | 0:13:36 | 0:13:41
are. I could cry at any rate. Where
he is now is a million times better. | 0:13:41 | 0:13:50
You are beautiful, yes. Is that
good? And so Hammy is one of the | 0:13:50 | 0:13:57
lucky ones, but his story is a
cautionary tale to anyone thinking | 0:13:57 | 0:14:01
of buying one of these peaks. Happy
ending. With me now is Tim. It is | 0:14:01 | 0:14:11
alarming that people are buying
these animals as pets. It is | 0:14:11 | 0:14:14
shocking. We bought tiny little
piglets a few years ago and named | 0:14:14 | 0:14:23
them Arnie and Sylvester and they
were a fantastic addition to the | 0:14:23 | 0:14:27
family and we could put them on a
lead and let them eat the public. | 0:14:27 | 0:14:31
Two years later, here they are, they
are monsters. Wow, definitely not | 0:14:31 | 0:14:38
small, tiny pigs any more. How much
do they wait? In excess of 60 kilos, | 0:14:38 | 0:14:46
they are proper farm animals. They
are farm animals and you cannot | 0:14:46 | 0:14:52
imagine them running around your
living room. You get calls from | 0:14:52 | 0:14:55
people wanting to bring in all kinds
of different animals? There is not a | 0:14:55 | 0:15:00
week that goes by where we do not
get offered horses, large lizards, | 0:15:00 | 0:15:05
snakes, reptiles, parrots and all
sorts of other things. Who are the | 0:15:05 | 0:15:12
people looking to re-home these
animals? They are mostly looking | 0:15:12 | 0:15:17
because they cannot live with them,
they have outgrown the environment. | 0:15:17 | 0:15:22
For example Kim, one of our giant
rabbits, they need a lot of | 0:15:22 | 0:15:27
specialist space and attention and
care and people buy them as tiny | 0:15:27 | 0:15:31
rabbits, not knowing what they were
turned into. What is your advice? | 0:15:31 | 0:15:39
Research before you take on any pet,
it is a lifelong commitment, they | 0:15:39 | 0:15:45
cost a lot of money and they need
space and attention. It is a | 0:15:45 | 0:15:49
responsibility. Thank you so much.
Next, Rachel has been on the trail | 0:15:49 | 0:15:55
of a building firm which left some
of its customers with unfinished | 0:15:55 | 0:15:57
business. | 0:15:57 | 0:16:02
The Welsh valleys had long
celebrated the Italian connection. | 0:16:02 | 0:16:07
From the late 19th century, the
opened ice cream parlours and cafes | 0:16:07 | 0:16:11
to brighten up many a town and
village. Now, a new business is on | 0:16:11 | 0:16:16
the doorstep. Bueti Development.
Like a good espresso, its name | 0:16:16 | 0:16:22
suggests the best of Italy. Classic,
stylish, strong. Indeed, in southern | 0:16:22 | 0:16:30
Italy, the name means little Ops. --
Little box. But it seems there is | 0:16:30 | 0:16:38
another Italian treat their
customers are not so fond of, | 0:16:38 | 0:16:41
laid-back. Some have been left
wondering if their work will ever be | 0:16:41 | 0:16:45
finished. Merthyr Tydfil pensioners
Hilary and ten Parsons both suffer | 0:16:45 | 0:16:53
from lung disease. For them, even
claiming the steers is a struggle. | 0:16:53 | 0:17:00
We got everything on one level,
which will make life a lot easier | 0:17:00 | 0:17:04
for the years in front of us as well
as now. So, I went online looking | 0:17:04 | 0:17:09
for a reputable builder. One of the
builders she found was Bueti | 0:17:09 | 0:17:14
Development. The man behind the
stylish sounding Bueti Development | 0:17:14 | 0:17:19
was no Italian but a regular valleys
boy, Kristian Powell. His sales | 0:17:19 | 0:17:25
pitch, however, was perfetto. A
perfect gentleman, he told me | 0:17:25 | 0:17:33
everything I wanted easier. Promised
it would be finished in five weeks | 0:17:33 | 0:17:37
max and I thought he knew what he
was talking about. He will get it | 0:17:37 | 0:17:41
done and finished. But, instead of
five weeks, three months later this | 0:17:41 | 0:17:46
was what Hillary's extension looked
like. No roofs and no windows. Bueti | 0:17:46 | 0:17:55
Development left of this place in a
right state. A disaster. Hilary paid | 0:17:55 | 0:18:06
Kristian Powell £6,000 of the £9,000
he said the work would cost. But in | 0:18:06 | 0:18:11
the dead of a finished extension,
she was left accessing her garden by | 0:18:11 | 0:18:16
a dodgy set of breeze blocks. --
instead of a finished extension. She | 0:18:16 | 0:18:20
has had to be another builder £4000
to get the building field. So, this | 0:18:20 | 0:18:27
is the bathroom extension. What is
stated he leave it in? Well, it was | 0:18:27 | 0:18:33
all open. We had just the trust is
up. So it was not what to? No, it's | 0:18:33 | 0:18:40
been horrendous. Horrendous. We have
both been on our inhalers more now | 0:18:40 | 0:18:44
than we should be because of the
ongoing dust, the mess... And the | 0:18:44 | 0:18:48
stress as well. Yes, definitely. I
explained all of this to him but to | 0:18:48 | 0:18:53
no avail. He does not seem to take
notice. He will not answer text, | 0:18:53 | 0:18:57
phone calls, e-mails, nothing. And,
it seems others have been strung | 0:18:57 | 0:19:03
along by Bueti Development. They
have 4000 £4000 worth of County | 0:19:03 | 0:19:35
Court judgments against them, even
though they have already been | 0:19:35 | 0:19:42
If I move the level to the back of
the war, it looks like it gets | 0:19:45 | 0:19:48
worse. Spent a lot of money to get
something that should be the hub of | 0:19:48 | 0:19:54
the house for edge to be finished
about this. | 0:19:54 | 0:19:57
And it is hard not to comment on the
state of your garden, which I assume | 0:19:57 | 0:20:03
was left by him? Yes, it was all
agree that it should be disposed of. | 0:20:03 | 0:20:07
That is what I am left with. The
stripped back, Bueti Development's | 0:20:07 | 0:20:16
work, this man has also been told
that little bearing steel beam is | 0:20:16 | 0:20:19
not adequately supported. What was
it like actually seen that? | 0:20:19 | 0:20:23
Absolutely devastating, which we
thought was a finished job. Here we | 0:20:23 | 0:20:27
are looking at back to square one.
And, down the road in Ebbw Vale, | 0:20:27 | 0:20:34
Gareth Hopkins has also been left
alone on a build by Bueti | 0:20:34 | 0:20:41
Development. The bills was split
into two, and extension and a dormer | 0:20:41 | 0:20:46
extension. But nearly a year after a
completion date, the £18,000 project | 0:20:46 | 0:20:52
has been abandoned. During the
build, the roof was left unfinished | 0:20:52 | 0:20:56
and exposed to the elements for
weeks on end. There was a lot of | 0:20:56 | 0:21:03
water ingress through the roof had
not been completed inside and this | 0:21:03 | 0:21:06
is where the water came through and
I had false pans and both catching | 0:21:06 | 0:21:09
the water. There is an electric
socket on the wall here. The water | 0:21:09 | 0:21:14
had come down from the wall around
the socket and saturated it. It is | 0:21:14 | 0:21:18
pretty obvious that windows to get
together, it is a danger. As work | 0:21:18 | 0:21:25
dragged on in fits and starts, there
were also problems in the master | 0:21:25 | 0:21:29
bedroom next door. At the time,
there was just a polythene sheet up | 0:21:29 | 0:21:35
here and that had been left for
months, for progress to be made, so | 0:21:35 | 0:21:39
that I could actually get the doors
and windows fitted. I could not go | 0:21:39 | 0:21:44
out, could not socialise without
worry on my mind all that is my home | 0:21:44 | 0:21:48
safe. If anyone trying to get in,
which was a constant worry and | 0:21:48 | 0:21:52
affected me greatly. Although Gareth
had agreed to put any windows and | 0:21:52 | 0:21:57
doors himself, he could not do this
until Bueti Development's work. But | 0:21:57 | 0:22:08
there were worrying issues with the
roof. This had been held there with | 0:22:08 | 0:22:14
just these two pieces of wood but it
was not until I noticed that it was | 0:22:14 | 0:22:17
blowing from the outset that it
could actually be a danger to life. | 0:22:17 | 0:22:21
The whole race could have just
collapsed in to the bedroom, | 0:22:21 | 0:22:24
bringing everything down. Bueti
Development eventually made the roof | 0:22:24 | 0:22:30
sound, but there was one final
insult to come. Gareth had paid | 0:22:30 | 0:22:35
Christian Powell to get building
approval, but has since found this | 0:22:35 | 0:22:41
was never done. He has had to apply
for retrospective permission and pay | 0:22:41 | 0:22:47
for it a second time, leaving him
still waiting for his extension to | 0:22:47 | 0:22:51
be done. I am really frustrated and
angry that almost one year later, a | 0:22:51 | 0:22:58
job that was to take a matter of
weeks is still ongoing and I am left | 0:22:58 | 0:23:04
with the mess to pick up now. With
none of these customers now able to | 0:23:04 | 0:23:09
get hold of Kristian Powell, it
seems they have hit a brick wall | 0:23:09 | 0:23:15
with the firm with the Italian
sounding name. My anxiety levels | 0:23:15 | 0:23:20
have been through the roof. It has
affected me greatly on a day-to-day | 0:23:20 | 0:23:23
basis. Spend a lot of money, and
unfortunately it is two steps | 0:23:23 | 0:23:27
forward and one step back. I have
lost all faith in him. | 0:23:27 | 0:23:34
Well, Bueti Development got back to
us to see all of the customers in | 0:23:34 | 0:23:37
our film got the rate of mind off
work for the money be paid. Kristian | 0:23:37 | 0:23:41
Powell admits making a mistake when
pricing Upper Gareth's extension, | 0:23:41 | 0:23:45
but says he used his own funds to do
as much extra work as possible and | 0:23:45 | 0:23:49
denies the roof was unsafe. He says
the specification on Hillary and | 0:23:49 | 0:23:54
Kim's job kept changing, making it
impossible to continue, but it was | 0:23:54 | 0:23:59
them who ended the contract and not
him. And he claimed the building | 0:23:59 | 0:24:03
officer did inspect Mr James's
extension and the beams were strong | 0:24:03 | 0:24:11
enough for the Lord.
Earlier, we find out how important | 0:24:11 | 0:24:14
it was to do your research before
finding a pet. I have been to nearby | 0:24:14 | 0:24:19
Tembi to find out how many of us
know the real cost of looking after | 0:24:19 | 0:24:22
our animal friends.
First up, what do people think it | 0:24:22 | 0:24:26
would cost to keep a pet rabbit
across its lifetime? They are quite | 0:24:26 | 0:24:32
cheap, surely. A bit of hay and
feet. £100. £1000. Nine... Files. -- | 0:24:32 | 0:24:44
9000. They do not last very long,
maybe 1000. £6,000. That is an | 0:24:44 | 0:24:52
expensive rabbit. So, what about a
cat? Probably nearly as much as a | 0:24:52 | 0:25:02
dog, really. How much? Ten, 12.
Seven grand. For a cat? Yes. About | 0:25:02 | 0:25:15
1400. 3000. And finally, how much
will man's best friend set you back? | 0:25:15 | 0:25:23
I don't know, 4000. Lets say
£15,000. That's a lot, isn't it?! | 0:25:23 | 0:25:32
Nod over a lifetime... It's not
worth working out, because she is | 0:25:32 | 0:25:38
part of the family. She completes
us. Ten, 15,000. Probably more. | 0:25:38 | 0:25:43
Depends on what you spoil it. I
think a lot. 8000. I think more. | 0:25:43 | 0:25:50
Were not getting a dog then!
Trickier than you might think. Well, | 0:25:50 | 0:25:55
this lady has all the answers. Joe,
it sounds like a cliche but | 0:25:55 | 0:25:59
Christmas is coming and now is the
peak time for people to buy pets. | 0:25:59 | 0:26:03
Definitely, they look for a new pet
for their children, the cute puppy | 0:26:03 | 0:26:08
rabbit and to not think about what
will that cost later on, | 0:26:08 | 0:26:12
necessarily. Then January comes and
they have got an animal that takes a | 0:26:12 | 0:26:15
lot of time and money and they maybe
think about giving them a new woman | 0:26:15 | 0:26:18
that is quite tricky. We had a huge
variety of answers on how much it | 0:26:18 | 0:26:23
costs over the lifetime of an animal
keep one. Let's go for the big | 0:26:23 | 0:26:27
reveal. First of all, rabbits.
£3500! It's a whopping amount, and I | 0:26:27 | 0:26:35
think people forget they need to be
kept in pairs so you can nearly | 0:26:35 | 0:26:38
double that. By the time you have
before housing, food, vaccinations, | 0:26:38 | 0:26:41
health care, it is a lot of money.
Right, a cat. They look after | 0:26:41 | 0:26:48
themselves, don't they? Sometimes,
but no, they are similarly | 0:26:48 | 0:26:52
expensive. A bit more so. OK, so,
for a cat over the course of its | 0:26:52 | 0:26:59
lifetime... Now, that if you a lot
of money. Speaker made a huge amount | 0:26:59 | 0:27:03
of money. People need to really
think hard about that before they go | 0:27:03 | 0:27:06
out and get on. There is a lot of
time and money goes into it. | 0:27:06 | 0:27:10
And finally, the cost of a dog over
its lifetime. You can imagine the | 0:27:10 | 0:27:15
children 's of lighting up, but will
be parents be so happy with this | 0:27:15 | 0:27:18
kind of bill? Shock-mac. Yes, it is
a huge commitment and really, we do | 0:27:18 | 0:27:25
not want to see them being turned
out on the street or sent to | 0:27:25 | 0:27:29
re-homing centres in January.
Whinged to think about it. | 0:27:29 | 0:27:35
Bdefinitely. That we've got time
for. Next weekend, I find the woman | 0:27:35 | 0:27:44
is vertically challenged bed is
getting her sleepless nights. Two, | 0:27:44 | 0:27:46
three, one. I can't do it! This is
ridiculous. Oh! You need a lie down | 0:27:46 | 0:27:56
after that.
And if you have got the hump, pick | 0:27:56 | 0:28:01
up the phone and give us a call. You
can drop us an e-mail, we will see | 0:28:01 | 0:28:09
you next week. Goodbye. | 0:28:09 | 0:28:10 |
