of the gangs conned a pensioner on Roadshow. We are live at the end of | :00:41. | :00:50.
a busy week asking your help. On the programme today: Khadar Hussein's | :00:50. | :00:56.
family will never get him back. Now they just want justice for him. We | :00:56. | :01:00.
are going underground, with the officers whose job it is to keep the | :01:00. | :01:07.
Channel Tunnel crime free. And how technology designed for road | :01:07. | :01:14.
traffic accidents helps detectives convicting actorly's murderer -- | :01:14. | :01:19.
convicted Natalie's murder rap. Today, our team are heading for | :01:19. | :01:25.
France. Where are you? Rav, it is our last day with Kent | :01:25. | :01:30.
police and we are live at the Channel Tunnel. This is the first | :01:30. | :01:34.
time ever that anyone has broadcast live from here so it is given to be | :01:34. | :01:39.
exciting stuff. They are on their way to France down there and later | :01:39. | :01:45.
we will be heading inside the tunnel itself to see one of the UK's most | :01:45. | :01:51.
challenging policing operations. Talking of crossing the Channel, our | :01:51. | :01:55.
first appeal is for information about a gang who pretended to ask a | :01:55. | :01:57.
pensioner about directions for France. | :01:57. | :02:03.
It was in fact a scam. Pamela may be 85 but she still lives life to the | :02:03. | :02:07.
full. She is nobody 's fool and what happened to her could happen to | :02:07. | :02:17.
:02:17. | :02:17. | ||
anybody. I think these people are absolute scum, that they can do this | :02:17. | :02:22.
sort of thing to ordinary people who, out of the goodness of their | :02:22. | :02:30.
heart, trying to help somebody. Pamela had booked a holiday to | :02:30. | :02:33.
Spain. She popped into town in Sittingbourne to get her spending | :02:33. | :02:38.
money out of the bank. I love to do things for myself. Although my | :02:38. | :02:45.
family are nearby, I like to be independent. I think it keeps you as | :02:45. | :02:52.
young as possible! I was looking forward that day particularly, | :02:52. | :02:57.
because in a few days I was going on holiday to Majorca and I needed some | :02:57. | :03:04.
cash to take with me. But by the time Pamela got to the bank, she was | :03:04. | :03:09.
being watched. She had been marked out as a target by a gang. As she | :03:09. | :03:14.
headed into the bank, one of them followed behind her. I went into | :03:14. | :03:22.
NatWest and went to the ATM and got 50. At the cash machine, Pamela had | :03:22. | :03:28.
no idea that a few feet behind her, the man was watching as she tapped | :03:28. | :03:32.
in her pin number. Police believe he then made a note of it. I always | :03:32. | :03:38.
thought when you are in a bank you are safe from criminals, but it just | :03:38. | :03:43.
goes to show. Having withdrawn her money, Pamela left the bank and set | :03:43. | :03:47.
off back to her car, and she was still being watched and followed. | :03:47. | :03:53.
The man who had been lurking in the bank was hard on her heels. This is | :03:53. | :03:57.
the CCTV of Pamela walking through the car park and it shows that she | :03:57. | :04:02.
had company. There were now four men following Pamela. And as she reached | :04:02. | :04:09.
her car, one of them moved in. gentleman came up and asked me | :04:09. | :04:16.
directions. It sounds ridiculous, but for France. I said France? He | :04:16. | :04:22.
said, yes. I said just a minute, put my handbag on the passenger seat, | :04:22. | :04:29.
and gave him my attention, which is what he was obviously after after. | :04:29. | :04:34.
Despite the strange request, Pamela tried to help but as she was | :04:34. | :04:40.
writing, he started moving around. The aim was to make sure Pamela was | :04:40. | :04:43.
completely distracted. He was going behind me and then in front of me | :04:43. | :04:49.
and I thought that was a little bit strange, but I was facing him. | :04:49. | :04:54.
Pamela was now confused and did not notice what was happening behind | :04:54. | :04:58.
her. A second man had approached the passenger side, opened the door and | :04:59. | :05:08.
:05:09. | :05:09. | ||
taken her purse from her handbag. I had to have turned round, I would | :05:09. | :05:11.
have probably seen the chap taking my purse but I never thought of | :05:11. | :05:14.
anything criminal involved. I thought I was helping somebody. Even | :05:14. | :05:20.
though it seemed strange to want to go to France! With Pamela's purse in | :05:20. | :05:25.
his hand, he ran across the car park. CCTV shows him heading towards | :05:25. | :05:31.
the high Street and the ATM. Meanwhile, the gang member who had | :05:31. | :05:35.
been distracting Pamela walked away and she got ready to drive home. | :05:35. | :05:42.
I sat in my car my handbag of course was open, and I was devastated. I | :05:42. | :05:49.
thought, my God, my purse has gone! I rushed to whence he came, and of | :05:49. | :05:59.
:05:59. | :06:06. | ||
course there was no sign of him. These men did not hang around. | :06:06. | :06:08.
Within minutes, one of them used two of Pamela's cards to withdraw a | :06:08. | :06:11.
total of 500. I went to the police station and anybody that knows | :06:11. | :06:13.
Sittingbourne knows that the police station is very close, but in that | :06:13. | :06:19.
time the Devils had taken 250 from NatWest and 250 from nationwide. | :06:19. | :06:25.
Plus my 50 holiday spending money. My goodness, what a good rate of | :06:25. | :06:31.
pay. I wish pensioners got that sort of rate! But money is precious when | :06:31. | :06:40.
you are retired. There is not going to be any more coming in. Pamela is | :06:40. | :06:46.
few years that she was taken in. felt stupid and angry and all the | :06:46. | :06:51.
emotions mixed into one, that I could have been so silly to have | :06:51. | :06:59.
fallen for a scam like that. Kent Police want to speak to all four men | :06:59. | :07:03.
involved in this distraction theft. They hope the clear images they have | :07:03. | :07:07.
of two of them will help to jog memories. I hope they are caught and | :07:08. | :07:12.
I hope nobody will fall for this sort of thing and will be more | :07:12. | :07:22.
:07:22. | :07:28. | ||
aware. I think the older we are, Paulson, one of the team | :07:28. | :07:34.
investigating the case. We know that Pamela was taken in. She thought it | :07:34. | :07:40.
was strange that she would be asked for directions to France. | :07:40. | :07:44.
Sittingbourne is not that far away from the coast. But she did want to | :07:44. | :07:50.
help and that is that the heart of these scams. There is something that | :07:50. | :07:55.
is convincing. Yes, sometimes they will ask for help with their car, a | :07:55. | :08:03.
glass of water, to help you into the -- hook you into deep situation. The | :08:03. | :08:09.
first stage is to watch your pin number and obtain it. We have images | :08:09. | :08:17.
of two men. Can you describe them? They are described as Eastern | :08:17. | :08:22.
European of appearance. The first is about 60, heavy build, and the | :08:22. | :08:31.
second man, it in his early 30s. Briefly, advice to people. Be aware | :08:31. | :08:35.
when you are withdrawing money from your cash machine of who is around | :08:35. | :08:41.
you. If somebody is too close to you, do not be scared to be rude and | :08:41. | :08:47.
ask them to step back. Now time to spoil somebody's weekend. Take a | :08:47. | :08:51.
look at this CCTV and see if you recognise anybody. | :08:51. | :08:57.
We all know how it feels to have a bad day but at this book is in | :08:57. | :09:02.
Hounslow, west London, it looks like this man is definitely on a losing | :09:02. | :09:07.
streak. It isn't going his way and he starts taking it out on the | :09:07. | :09:11.
cashier and the machine. He does not know what he is doing with this | :09:11. | :09:19.
seat. He picks it up, puts it down, and heads back over to the cashier. | :09:20. | :09:25.
He is really starting to get mad. Eventually, he completely loses it | :09:25. | :09:30.
and pulls the machine over. What a temper. He stepped over it and walks | :09:30. | :09:38.
out, leaving 3000 worth of damage. If you know this hot-headed high | :09:38. | :09:46.
roller, you know what you need to This man is waiting to get off a | :09:46. | :09:50.
London bus but he has left one of the pockets open on his backpack and | :09:51. | :09:56.
it is an irresistible target for this pickpocket. If you missed it? | :09:56. | :10:03.
Have another look. Watch his left hand as he steals the man's | :10:03. | :10:10.
expensive headphones and MP3 player, worth almost 300. You know him? | :10:10. | :10:15.
Give us a call. Just before Christmas, this man is not just out | :10:15. | :10:23.
for a ride in Lancashire. He is popping into the bank. He rummages | :10:23. | :10:27.
around in a plastic bag and eventually makes his move. But it | :10:27. | :10:32.
cannot choose which cashier to go to. He finally decides but he is no | :10:32. | :10:37.
ordinary customer. He tells the woman he has got a gun in his bag | :10:37. | :10:43.
and wants some money. She hands it over and he makes his getaway. He is | :10:43. | :10:48.
back on his bike considerably richer. He has got four grand to | :10:48. | :10:54.
spend on Christmas presents. Do you know him? | :10:54. | :10:57.
We are banking on you to get information to us about those | :10:57. | :11:06.
people. Call us on 08000 468999. Calls are free from most landlines. | :11:06. | :11:10.

the number is on the bottom right of the screen. The space is very | :11:18. | :11:23.
important, if you do not put it in the message will not get through. | :11:23. | :11:28.
And you can e-mail us. Now it is time for an urgent appeal by the | :11:28. | :11:32.
Metropolitan Police. They are asking for your help to track down a | :11:32. | :11:37.
19-year-old man after a fatal shooting in south London. | :11:37. | :11:40.
Khadar Hussein was 19 from Beckingham. The eldest of five | :11:40. | :11:47.
children, he lived at home with his family. He was popular and had | :11:47. | :11:52.
everything to live for. Like any young man that age, Khadar enjoyed | :11:52. | :11:57.
spending time with friends and playing computer games. He was a | :11:57. | :12:02.
very high per person, he thought he was funny and would tell jokes that | :12:02. | :12:07.
were not funny! He had this laugh that would make you laugh. He was a | :12:07. | :12:13.
really nice person, he was always caring and generally a happy person. | :12:13. | :12:20.
On the 8th of May, Khadar was with friends, hanging out. They spent | :12:20. | :12:23.
most of their time indoors playing games or playing football and stuff | :12:23. | :12:32.
like that. At 8pm, they decided to head outside. They went off together | :12:32. | :12:36.
in a group but then Khadar walked ahead of the others to take a phone | :12:36. | :12:43.
call. One Khadar and his friends had left the house, they started to make | :12:43. | :12:48.
their way along a footpath towards the car park -- once Khadar and his | :12:48. | :12:54.
friends had left. When Khadar walked into the car park, he was alone and | :12:54. | :13:03.
out of sight. He encountered the suspect, we understand from witness | :13:03. | :13:13.
accounts that the phrase" Khadar, don't move" was shouted. It was over | :13:13. | :13:20.
in seconds. When they heard the bang, his friends rang around the | :13:20. | :13:25.
corner -- ran around the corner. Witnesses saw a man running away | :13:25. | :13:29.
from the scene. Khadar suffered from a gunshot wound at the back of his | :13:29. | :13:36.
head. Doctors tried to save his life but he died the following morning. | :13:36. | :13:43.
feel destroyed. I loved him. I never thought of Khadar dying before me. I | :13:43. | :13:48.
thought he would always look after this family. He was caring, looking | :13:48. | :13:53.
after all of us when I am not here. Normally I work weekends and he | :13:53. | :13:58.
would look after his brothers, take them football and things. I cannot | :13:58. | :14:08.
:14:08. | :14:14. | ||
Everything you can replace but not their life. This is the man police | :14:14. | :14:19.
would like to talk to in connection with the shooting. They believe he | :14:19. | :14:24.
has vital information to help solve the crime. His name is Trai | :14:24. | :14:29.
Williamson. He is also 19 and was last seen on the day of Khadar's | :14:29. | :14:35.
murder. From early on we knew we wanted to speak to Trai Williamson. | :14:35. | :14:40.
From the first few hours of the investigation, police were actively | :14:40. | :14:44.
engaged in trying to locate his whereabouts. I believe there are | :14:44. | :14:49.
people within that part of London that know where he is and I appeal | :14:49. | :14:52.
to those people to look into their hearts and to consider what would | :14:52. | :14:58.
they want other people to do were it one of their loved ones that had | :14:58. | :15:03.
been killed. What would they expect the public to do? I am fairly sure | :15:03. | :15:08.
they would expect them to pick up the phone. Police say any | :15:08. | :15:11.
information they received about Khadar's death will be treated in | :15:11. | :15:19.
the strictest confidence. I have to say, please, if you know anything, a | :15:19. | :15:24.
little bit even, it doesn't matter how small they are, it would be a | :15:24. | :15:29.
help to the police or contact them as soon as possible. My little | :15:29. | :15:34.
brother, I don't think he fully understands the situation but my | :15:34. | :15:40.
sisters are so upset. My dad is upset. My Nan especially, she saw | :15:40. | :15:45.
him every week no matter what. I don't know what to do. My Mum wakes | :15:45. | :15:51.
up expecting him to be here. But it is never going to happen again, is | :15:51. | :16:01.
:16:01. | :16:02. | ||
it? Joining me is Russell Taylor from the Metropolitan Police. You | :16:02. | :16:06.
have taken the unusual step of naming this man, Trai Williamson. | :16:06. | :16:12.
Why have you done that? It is essential to progress the case as | :16:12. | :16:17.
soon as possible. Evidence of Jess he was at the scene. We need to find | :16:17. | :16:25.
out what involvement he had. What can you tell us about this man? He | :16:25. | :16:33.
is black, short hair, maybe a gold tooth and he circulates around is | :16:33. | :16:41.
London. That is where we think he Khadar's funeral was last week. His | :16:41. | :16:47.
family are devastated. Nothing can take away the loss. We | :16:48. | :16:50.
need to identify the person responsible. That could bring some | :16:50. | :16:57.
small comfort. You want to make an appeal to the public and tell them | :16:57. | :17:05.
about a reward. The reward is for tenpin -- 10,000 for the arrest of | :17:05. | :17:11.
Trai Williamson. Anybody who knows where he is, please pick up the | :17:11. | :17:17.
phone. Time now to have another look at | :17:17. | :17:21.
some of this week 's wanted faces. We have had good information | :17:21. | :17:25.
through, but we still need information to find them. First is | :17:25. | :17:29.
Mark Robert Cruz, wanted in connection with the production of | :17:29. | :17:35.
10,000 of cannabis. He previously had the surname Hinton and is often | :17:35. | :17:40.
known by his nickname, Tutty. Police believe he fled to Spain but could | :17:40. | :17:45.
now be back here in the UK. This miserable looking guy is called | :17:45. | :17:48.
Goodman. He was jailed for three years for | :17:48. | :17:54.
drug dealing in May, 2011, but was released on licence. He failed to | :17:54. | :17:59.
stick to his conditions and is wanted on a recall. He is easy to | :17:59. | :18:04.
spot because his right ear has a weak chunk missing. | :18:04. | :18:10.
Face 43 is Stefan Cristian Craciun. He was charged with grievous bodily | :18:10. | :18:15.
harm but failed to turn up to court and a warrant was issued for his | :18:15. | :18:18.
arrest. He comes originally from remaining but has links in Edgware, | :18:18. | :18:23.
in London. This is low to Campbell. She is | :18:23. | :18:32.
wanted for questioning. -- Loyota Campbell. She is five tall, speaks | :18:32. | :18:37.
with a London accent and has a scar from a gunshot wound on her left | :18:37. | :18:46.
wrist. Call us. You can text us. Remember | :18:46. | :18:52.
the space is important. If you don't put it in, your message will not get | :18:52. | :19:01.
through. You can e-mail us, too. Still to come: This teenager was | :19:01. | :19:08.
brutally murdered. How police used a high-tech gadget to help bring her | :19:08. | :19:15.
killer to justice. Police in gelling wants your help to | :19:15. | :19:20.
try to find a man who they believe was involved in a vicious and | :19:20. | :19:25.
unprovoked attack in the town. The victim was assaulted as he tried to | :19:25. | :19:29.
stop his car from being underlies. Now the man the police want to talk | :19:29. | :19:37.
to was captured on CCTV and our earlier. It is a pull the second, | :19:37. | :19:42.
and these two men are captured on CCTV by the train station in | :19:42. | :19:46.
gelling. Police want to talk to the man seen here kicking the post at | :19:46. | :19:51.
the pedestrian crossing. The actual attack happened on Franklin Road, | :19:51. | :19:56.
around an hour later, at around 2:30am. The victim had left his home | :19:56. | :20:01.
to confront two men who were kicking cars and fences in his street. He | :20:01. | :20:08.
was hit around the head, kicked and punched until he blacked out. PC | :20:08. | :20:12.
Karen Wigley is one of the officers investigating the case. You have | :20:12. | :20:21.
spoken to one of the men already so we are not showing his face. He is | :20:21. | :20:24.
currently on bail. But he refuses to identify the other man on the | :20:24. | :20:29.
footage. That is why he is wanted. | :20:29. | :20:33.
Tell us about that other man who was seen on the CCTV. You believe he was | :20:33. | :20:40.
involved in the attack. Yes, given the distinctive | :20:40. | :20:50.
:20:50. | :20:50. | ||
description by the victim, here's a white, stocky mail. How badly | :20:50. | :20:59.
injured Izzy? -- is he? There's a possibility he may lose his sight in | :20:59. | :21:07.
his right eye. He is doing well at the moment. He | :21:07. | :21:10.
is preparing for a heart bypass, which a pre-existing condition. But | :21:10. | :21:14.
he is doing well. What would be your advice to anybody | :21:14. | :21:20.
seeing a potential crime outside their property? | :21:20. | :21:29.
Call 999, but be safe. We regularly feature everyday crimes | :21:29. | :21:33.
such as burglary and theft. It is the annoying stuff that can happen | :21:33. | :21:39.
to anybody. The culprits are often responsible for a string of similar | :21:39. | :21:43.
offences. That was definitely the case with the next burglar. Tell us | :21:43. | :21:53.
:21:53. | :21:54. | ||
about this chap. I am sure many of you remember a | :21:54. | :21:57.
CCTV image of a man walking into the backroom of a hairdressing and | :21:57. | :22:02.
stealing the staff 's prize and valuable possessions. Absolutely. We | :22:02. | :22:07.
have got a clip. This is a kitchen of a hairdressers | :22:07. | :22:17.
:22:17. | :22:17. | ||
in Cheshire. We can see a man in the kitchen. He clearly doesn't need a | :22:17. | :22:24.
haircut! He had sneaked in to help himself to designer handbags, cash, | :22:24. | :22:27.
phones and possessions worth more than 6,000. He got itself not one | :22:27. | :22:30.
handbag, not two, but three. We asked if you recognise this man. | :22:30. | :22:34.
Your information helped to catch him. | :22:34. | :22:41.
He is so confident on his stealing spree. But it came to an abrupt end. | :22:41. | :22:47.
Fax to viewers. He was recognised as Robert Hall. Once they had the name, | :22:47. | :22:50.
police could link into a whole string of burglaries in Manchester. | :22:50. | :23:00.
:23:00. | :23:01. | ||
Police were looking at him for a series of burglaries at student | :23:01. | :23:04.
accommodation. They cannot afford to lose anything. He was arrested at | :23:04. | :23:07.
home in January and appeared in court, where he pleaded guilty to | :23:07. | :23:10.
two burglaries. He had another ten taken into consideration, including | :23:10. | :23:14.
those on CCTV. He was imprisoned for two years and nine months. That was | :23:14. | :23:24.
:23:24. | :23:30. | ||
terrific. Another one for us? It goes on. This | :23:30. | :23:37.
man, Vincent Toohey, was on our wanted faces board. He was wanted by | :23:37. | :23:40.
Devon police. He was rattled by this, because within 30 minutes of | :23:40. | :23:43.
transmission he had arranged with the police to give himself up. | :23:43. | :23:48.
That must be a record. He was living in Kent. He pleaded | :23:48. | :23:53.
guilty to conspiracy to supply heroin and was jailed in April for | :23:53. | :24:00.
4.5 years. Again, a fantastic result. We are going to squeeze one | :24:00. | :24:05.
more in. We also featured this man, and as a result of his face being | :24:05. | :24:12.
shown, one call to Crimestoppers helped to trace and find him. He was | :24:12. | :24:17.
arrested. He pleaded guilty to breaching cannabis and was sentenced | :24:17. | :24:22.
in November at Chester Crown Court to two years in prison. Senior | :24:22. | :24:26.
officers in the case were delighted. This had been a two-year | :24:26. | :24:31.
investigation, and by the time they came to the roadshow they had | :24:31. | :24:35.
exhausted all their enquiries. This is what they had to say. One call | :24:35. | :24:40.
came in to say this is the place you need to go. | :24:40. | :24:44.
We quickly assessed the information. We confirmed he was | :24:44. | :24:49.
there and made an arrest. Really, the message I want to get out today | :24:49. | :24:53.
is that you hold the key a lot of the time. If you give us the | :24:53. | :24:57.
information, we can turn it around and get him quickly and make | :24:57. | :25:04.
positive outcomes. You have said it, one call can be | :25:04. | :25:10.
all it takes to secure a conviction. It is so true. | :25:11. | :25:18.
You can take years on an enquiry, and one call can be the turning | :25:18. | :25:20.
point and make all the difference and save time and money, and | :25:20. | :25:23.
distress on the victims, most importantly. | :25:23. | :25:27.
Some really good results there, and you will be back next week? | :25:27. | :25:35.
I am, and I will show how important it is for the public to get involved | :25:35. | :25:41.
in these appeals. Last year, detectives in Kent | :25:41. | :25:45.
investigating the murder of a young woman found they had a large and | :25:45. | :25:49.
complex crime scene to investigate. They realised the best way to make | :25:49. | :25:53.
sense of it was to use a piece of kit you would expect to find at the | :25:53. | :25:58.
sight of a motorway. This may look like a virtual world, but every | :25:58. | :26:03.
metre of this journey every yellow marker that you are seeing, traces | :26:03. | :26:08.
the struggle of a young woman fighting for her life as she was | :26:08. | :26:10.
brutally attacked, staggering down the road. | :26:10. | :26:15.
By the end of this footage is very real. It is where 24-year-old | :26:15. | :26:22.
Natalie Jarvis 's body was found. In April of this year, Adams Wheeler | :26:22. | :26:29.
Hannah was jailed for life for her murder. Our hearts have been | :26:29. | :26:35.
shattered and can never be mended. Our lives will never be a same -- | :26:35. | :26:41.
the same again. In October, Natalie 's Roddy was | :26:41. | :26:48.
found in Kent. The news left her father devastated. | :26:48. | :26:52.
It was like being hit by a ten tonne truck. The initial few hours was | :26:52. | :26:58.
sheer hell. We were not allowed to go and see Natalie for two days. We | :26:58. | :27:04.
couldn't go down to the scene, obviously, because it was preserved | :27:04. | :27:10.
as a crime scene. The murderer believed Natalie was pregnant and | :27:10. | :27:14.
they had argued about it. On October the 3rd of last year, he | :27:14. | :27:18.
went out drinking with a friend. He then drove to Natalie 's house, | :27:18. | :27:23.
picked her up and took her to a country lane. There, he and Natalie | :27:23. | :27:28.
got out of the car. He attacked her with a knife and he stabbed her in | :27:28. | :27:33.
the neck repeatedly. Police were shocked not only by the brutality of | :27:33. | :27:39.
the attack but that it happened over such a large area. | :27:39. | :27:43.
When I arrived, I'd see the barometers were extensive. I had it | :27:43. | :27:50.
measured and it measured approximately 148 metres from the | :27:50. | :27:55.
first location to wear Natalie was found. | :27:55. | :28:00.
He accepted he had killed Natalie. He even wrote about it on Twitter. | :28:00. | :28:05.
But he claimed he acted in self defence, saying she had attacked him | :28:05. | :28:08.
first. But the police didn't believe the story and wanted to show the | :28:09. | :28:13.
jury what had really happened. The crime scene was longer than a | :28:13. | :28:18.
football pitch. They decided to use a scanner, an innovative device | :28:18. | :28:23.
normally used at the scene of serious road traffic accidents. | :28:23. | :28:29.
Using a series of laser scans, GPS maps and digital photographs, is | :28:29. | :28:38.
built up a 3-D map of the area, accurate to within three | :28:38. | :28:41.
millimetres. The request was to be able to show the path taken by | :28:41. | :28:45.
Natalie from where the car was parked to wear she later lay. | :28:45. | :28:51.
A CCTV camera saw the camera at the scene, dividing everything 's point. | :28:51. | :29:01.
:29:01. | :29:01. | ||
When making maps of car crash sites, Dave normally takes about four | :29:02. | :29:05.
scans. Here, at this enormous scene, he took 12. Back at the station, he | :29:05. | :29:13.
began piecing together his scans. They were put together to give a | :29:13. | :29:17.
picture of the crime scene. What we were able to see is the vehicle, so | :29:17. | :29:20.
then that is overlaid onto the scene scanning to try and demonstrate to | :29:20. | :29:24.
the jury that this is what we believe has happened. It is a | :29:24. | :29:30.
virtual walk-through. We have added in these markers. | :29:30. | :29:34.
Various things were noted, such as spots of blood and pieces of Natalie | :29:34. | :29:40.
's clothing. Jury is normally visit the scene, | :29:40. | :29:44.
but in Natalie 's case, it was not necessary. They could see the scene | :29:44. | :29:49.
as it would have looked just after Natalie was killed. | :29:49. | :29:53.
It paints a picture for the jury so they can understand the enormity of | :29:53. | :29:58.
the scene. Natalie 's family were in court | :29:58. | :30:02.
every day of the trial. Going to trial every day was | :30:03. | :30:10.
particular lead distress in. We had the soup bought of all of our | :30:10. | :30:16.
friends. -- the support. There were few days that we went in with less | :30:16. | :30:22.
than 12, 13 friends family members. Natalie 's as well. | :30:22. | :30:30.
It took jewellery is just four hours to find the murderer guilty. -- the | :30:30. | :30:36.
jurors. The only show of emotion from our | :30:36. | :30:41.
family was, yes. The judge praised the way the | :30:42. | :30:47.
technology had been used and for the man whose idea it was it was a | :30:47. | :30:53.
result. I expect that this will form the | :30:53. | :30:59.
focus of many trials to come. Certainly, in homicide | :30:59. | :31:03.
investigations, modern technology never ceases to amaze. This was | :31:03. | :31:10.
really taken to its advantage in this case. | :31:10. | :31:14.
The pioneering use of the scanner had helped to give the jury a real | :31:14. | :31:19.
understanding of what Natalie went through and a vicious murderer was | :31:19. | :31:23.
conduct did. But for Natalie 's father, all he has left of his | :31:23. | :31:28.
daughter I have memories. Natalie, she was nicknamed the | :31:29. | :31:32.
social hand grenade. When she walked into a room, the sound levels went | :31:32. | :31:37.
up, the laughter level went up and smiles broke out everywhere. She was | :31:37. | :31:41.
just wonderful, the most vivid fridge and a vibrant young lady. -- | :31:41. | :31:47.
vivacious. This is the first time they had ever | :31:47. | :31:51.
used this kit in a murder investigation. It is normally used | :31:51. | :32:01.
:32:01. | :32:02. | ||
for road traffic at -- traffic accidents. I know it is 150,000 | :32:02. | :32:09.
worth? Yes. This is the laser scanner that has come along to | :32:09. | :32:15.
replace this old equipment. The laser scanner sends out an invisible | :32:15. | :32:23.
laser and builds up a 3-D model of the entire scene. Pan around them -- | :32:23. | :32:32.
panoramic? Yes. And you can check that back in the office? Yes. This | :32:32. | :32:37.
is a collision I went to, I used the scanner. If we look at the screen. | :32:37. | :32:43.
It is a 3-D model of the crime scene. I can interact with it and | :32:43. | :32:48.
rotate around it as I want to. I can see some skidmarks that I can zoom | :32:48. | :32:55.
in on. If I rotates the surround you can see the tyre marks. Absolutely | :32:55. | :33:02.
amazing. We can hear it doing it stuff now and clicking, taking the | :33:02. | :33:07.
photos so quickly. The level of detail is fascinating and that is | :33:07. | :33:12.
what was so important in that particular case. If we look there, | :33:12. | :33:18.
you can actually track the way the car has travelled down the road and | :33:18. | :33:21.
where it ended. Thank you so much for showing us. | :33:21. | :33:31.
:33:31. | :33:33. | ||
Fascinating. Rav. Time for the final batch of this week's crooks caught | :33:33. | :33:35.
on camera. Harrogate. This man is browsing | :33:35. | :33:38.
computer equipment but he does not have plans to pay for anything. Two | :33:38. | :33:44.
hard drives go into his jacket. Let's watch that sneaky move again. | :33:44. | :33:49.
And on the way out he spots another gadget he fancies, so he takes that | :33:49. | :33:56.
as well. Then he calmly walks out of the shop. Do you know who he is? | :33:56. | :34:06.
Come on. He needs to be caught. It is almost 4am and this man is | :34:06. | :34:10.
wandering around outside, even though it is a cold, December night. | :34:10. | :34:15.
This is not his house but he is trying the door anyway. It isn't | :34:15. | :34:18.
locked so he leaves the door ajar, wipes away his fingerprints and | :34:18. | :34:26.
wanders off. But a few minutes later, he is back to finish the job. | :34:26. | :34:36.
:34:36. | :34:38. | ||
He creeps into the house. Then he makes a discreet exit, having stolen | :34:38. | :34:41.
wallet and a set of car keys. And yes, he remembers to wipe the door | :34:41. | :34:44.
handle again. We need to catch this careful thief quickly. Do you know | :34:45. | :34:52.
him? West London. This man looks like he | :34:52. | :34:57.
is taking money out of a cash machine but he is not using it to | :34:57. | :35:00.
withdraw his own money. He is actually blocking the machine with a | :35:00. | :35:06.
piece of plastic. So when a real customer comes to use the ATM, he | :35:06. | :35:11.
finds that his money does not materialise. Once he has gone, the | :35:11. | :35:15.
thief returns to collect the 200 which has been caught in the | :35:15. | :35:22.
machine. Do you know him? Give us a call. | :35:22. | :35:30.
Call us on the usual numbers or e-mail us. Of course, you can call | :35:30. | :35:38.
Crimestoppers anonymously. When the Channel Tunnel opened back | :35:38. | :35:42.
in 1994, it was a feat of engineering, but it also presented | :35:42. | :35:48.
new challenges or the authorities. We have spent the day with officers | :35:48. | :35:52.
from the Kent force to see how they police their half of the 31 mile | :35:52. | :35:57.
tunnel. At its deepest, it is 114 metres | :35:57. | :36:04.
beneath the sea and 10 million passengers travel through it every | :36:04. | :36:09.
year. The Channel Tunnel is a massive policing challenge for Kent | :36:09. | :36:14.
Police. It is one of the largest ports in the UK in terms of numbers | :36:14. | :36:20.
passing through the border. We have to respond instantaneously to any | :36:20. | :36:25.
incident, because the consequences of an incident underground are quite | :36:25. | :36:27.
extreme. A fire has closed the Channel | :36:27. | :36:32.
Tunnel. Thousands became trapped in the | :36:32. | :36:36.
Channel Tunnel in terrible conditions. In order to keep | :36:36. | :36:40.
passengers safe, the officers have to get used to working below | :36:40. | :36:44.
sea-level. The location of each and every train is monitored from this | :36:44. | :36:49.
control centre. Sergeant Andy Brittenden has been on the | :36:49. | :36:54.
underground beat for five years. With 2000 people travelling through | :36:54. | :36:58.
the tunnel at any one time, his job is to anticipate anything that could | :36:58. | :37:05.
put those people at risk. My staff have to be ready to react to any | :37:05. | :37:09.
situation whereby a train had stopped and there is a need to get | :37:09. | :37:13.
resources to it, to rescue them or get the train moving again. We need | :37:13. | :37:19.
to know that there are two running tunnels, that there are | :37:19. | :37:22.
approximately 50 kilometres there in length, we need to know that they | :37:22. | :37:26.
cross over twice during the tunnel system, and we have to make sure | :37:26. | :37:30.
that we can provide a good service and react quickly if there is a | :37:30. | :37:38.
problem underground. In 2008, a fire broke out inside the tunnel. The | :37:38. | :37:40.
police were responsible for orchestrating the operation to bring | :37:40. | :37:46.
the passengers out. When underground, the police service is | :37:46. | :37:51.
responsible for developing command and control of the incident. No one | :37:51. | :37:55.
was seriously injured in that incident but it just goes to show | :37:55. | :38:00.
how Andy and his team have to be on constant alert. This service tunnel | :38:00. | :38:04.
runs down the middle of the main train tunnels. It is absolutely | :38:04. | :38:10.
crucial for emergency planning. there is a need to evacuate people | :38:10. | :38:15.
from the trains, they will come out into this environment through the | :38:15. | :38:20.
cross passage doors and we can hold them here in this safe haven. We | :38:20. | :38:25.
will not respond into the tunnel unless we know this is a safe haven. | :38:25. | :38:31.
He travels deeper into the 31 mile tunnel. There is a fair distance of | :38:31. | :38:36.
ground side tunnel to cover before we get under the sea but the tunnel | :38:36. | :38:41.
itself. To drop down as it goes lower. As the tunnel is underneath | :38:41. | :38:45.
soil rather than on the bottom of the sea bed, as a lot of people | :38:45. | :38:52.
might think. With 75 metres of solid rock and ocean above, communication | :38:52. | :38:59.
with the outside world is of paramount importance. Calling | :38:59. | :39:05.
underground? Just to let you know we are now up and running. Over. | :39:05. | :39:11.
the check done, Andy heads back to the terminal. And there are | :39:12. | :39:18.
challenges aboveground as well. gets very busy, particularly at | :39:18. | :39:22.
times when there are delays. It is the sort of place where you can get | :39:22. | :39:26.
flash points of people on the particularly if there has been a | :39:26. | :39:35.
delay. We have a coachload of people needing to get to France! There has | :39:35. | :39:41.
been some delays this morning caused by some issues at the check-in. | :39:41. | :39:44.
People do get frustrated and I do understand that. It is a case of | :39:44. | :39:49.
coming down and ironing out if there is anything we can help the public | :39:49. | :39:54.
with, keeping them informed -- finding out. And also supporting the | :39:54. | :40:01.
staff as well, as this can get very busy with delays. With his job | :40:01. | :40:05.
taking him above and below ground, and he believes he has got the best | :40:05. | :40:13.
of both worlds. -- Andy. Ultimately it is all about keeping the 55,000 | :40:13. | :40:19.
daily passengers safe. Joining me now is Sergeant Andy | :40:19. | :40:24.
Brittenden, who we saw in that report. So, the best of both worlds? | :40:24. | :40:30.
I am lucky I have two jobs and I enjoyed both of them. We are | :40:30. | :40:38.
familiar with this kit, we do not normally see it aboveground. | :40:38. | :40:42.
allows us to get emergency equipment underground to the scene of an | :40:42. | :40:46.
incident but it is specifically built because the service tunnel is | :40:46. | :40:51.
only 4.8 metres wide so there is a very narrow gap, a matter of if you | :40:51. | :40:54.
insure is. The wing mirrors are quite small so that when we pass | :40:54. | :41:04.
each other, we do not hit them. Let's take a walk down this very | :41:04. | :41:09.
long vehicle. It is the length of two cars. That is your special | :41:09. | :41:14.
police car because that goes down the tunnel with everything on the | :41:14. | :41:20.
top. Yes, all communications equipment in the roof box. This is | :41:20. | :41:23.
an emergency response vehicle itself. If there was an emergency, | :41:23. | :41:29.
it would be hectic. communications pod allows us to | :41:29. | :41:39.
fulfil our role of command at the scene. We have telephone and fax. We | :41:39. | :41:45.
can notify the ICC of casualty numbers, numbers of evacuations. | :41:45. | :41:49.
People at each of the three locations will be operating phones | :41:49. | :41:55.
and radios. I think this is a first, not many people will have sat in | :41:55. | :41:58.
here Rav! Detectives in North Yorkshire have | :41:58. | :42:02.
arrested one of the wanted faces we showed you earlier in the week. We | :42:02. | :42:08.
can tell you more next week. On Tuesday, the case of the | :42:08. | :42:13.
84-year-old who had money stolen by a man who said he was repairing her | :42:13. | :42:16.
guttering. Detectives have a strong lead. | :42:16. | :42:25.
And one of our faces wanted for fraud. Police looking into a strong | :42:25. | :42:27.
lead on him as well. It has been a great week. Where will | :42:27. | :42:32.
you be on Monday? We are heading to Birmingham, the birthplace of the | :42:32. | :42:36.
iconic mini and we will be investigating a spate of thefts of | :42:36. | :42:40.
those cars. We will also be asking for your help in tracking down the | :42:40. | :42:45.
gold thieves who terrorised a mother and young baby. | :42:45. | :42:52.
That's it for today. Remember the CCTV clips are online. Also, it has | :42:52. | :42:56. |
