attacked with a stun gun and bundled into his car, the kidnap of a | :00:19. | :00:29.
:00:29. | :00:40. | ||
Hello, and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow. We're live, and we're here | :00:40. | :00:44.
every weekday morning looking at the crimes that can spoil your lives. On | :00:44. | :00:52.
the programme today: risking it all to get away. | :00:52. | :00:59.
A father forced to jump from a card to escape his abductors. We are out | :00:59. | :01:05.
with a special -- special squad on Moss Side clamping down on thieves. | :01:05. | :01:10.
And, the good neighbour savagely attacked while checking out a pair | :01:10. | :01:20.
:01:20. | :01:27. | ||
of suspicious men. Good morning, I am at the | :01:27. | :01:30.
headquarters of Greater Manchester Police in Central Park. A massive | :01:30. | :01:35.
force area with plenty to keep the 8000 police officers on their toes. | :01:35. | :01:40.
Later, we take a close look at some weapons which appear harmless but | :01:40. | :01:50.
:01:50. | :01:51. | ||
are really deadly. The 11th of March was an ordinary | :01:51. | :01:55.
day for this shopkeeper, or so he thought. | :01:55. | :02:00.
I thought, I am helpless here, what are they going to do to me? I opened | :02:00. | :02:10.
:02:10. | :02:16. | ||
I went to school here, all my friends are here, most of my family | :02:16. | :02:22.
is here. I bought my own post office, I have had it seven years. I | :02:22. | :02:30.
know the community really well. The 11th of March was just another | :02:30. | :02:35.
ordinary day at this Oldham post office. I did my reports at 530, | :02:35. | :02:43.
like I normally do. Then I stopped up in the shop. That night, this | :02:43. | :02:47.
dedicated father was picking up his two young children from their | :02:47. | :02:53.
after-school club at the local mosque. At six pm. , he closed the | :02:53. | :02:58.
shop, and made his way to his car which was just around the corner. | :02:58. | :03:02.
looked at the car park and saw two men wearing hats and scarves on | :03:02. | :03:07.
their face. The only thing I could see was their eyes. At that moment, | :03:07. | :03:12.
I didn't think too much, I thought it was cold which was why they were | :03:12. | :03:15.
covering their faces. All of a sudden, they headed straight for | :03:15. | :03:25.
:03:25. | :03:34. | ||
someone was playing a prank. I felt scared. No one was around, I was on | :03:34. | :03:41.
my own. I was helpless. What were they going to do to me? These | :03:41. | :03:45.
criminals overpowered him but as he struggled to get free, things took a | :03:45. | :03:51.
turn for the worse. He got something out of his pocket. A hand-held | :03:51. | :03:59.
device, I didn't know what it was. He was hit by a stun gun. A weapon | :03:59. | :04:03.
that can carry a charge of 1 million volts. I could feel the electric | :04:03. | :04:08.
shock going through me, my leg especially. Then a burning sensation | :04:08. | :04:13.
after the electric shock. It felt really painful. The unusual thing | :04:13. | :04:18.
about this case, we often find people are threatened with weapons, | :04:18. | :04:25.
but often they are not used. He was shot four times. Once would have | :04:25. | :04:31.
stunned him. Up to four times it would have momentary boat -- | :04:31. | :04:36.
immobilisation. It must've caused a lot of pain. Snatching his keys, | :04:36. | :04:42.
they bundled him into his own car. Already shot and in pain, he was | :04:42. | :04:50.
terrified. I felt really, really frightened, helpless. I couldn't do | :04:50. | :04:55.
anything. Things were about to get even worse, as he was driven into | :04:55. | :04:59.
the night. Unbelievable. We will see what | :04:59. | :05:08.
happened next, later. We start now with a nasty fight | :05:08. | :05:13.
caught on camera. October last year, in the elephant and Castle area of | :05:13. | :05:17.
London. Watch the man at the top of the | :05:17. | :05:26.
screen picking a fight with someone. A second man follows shortly after. | :05:26. | :05:31.
Although it is only a cayenne, in front of commuters, they are | :05:31. | :05:35.
assaulting a man in broad daylight. Even after pushing him to the | :05:35. | :05:40.
ground, they continued punching and kicking him. Eventually, members of | :05:40. | :05:45.
the public get involved to pull the men away. The police need to | :05:45. | :05:49.
identify these violent men and their victim. | :05:49. | :05:57.
If you know anything, call us. A bookies in Hounslow, May this | :05:57. | :06:01.
year. It looks like this man is having a really bad day. After a few | :06:01. | :06:06.
minutes, he loses it completely, reaches for the machine, and pulls | :06:06. | :06:12.
it to the ground, and calmly steps of it on his way out. Do you know | :06:12. | :06:20.
this grumpy gambler? Give us a call. A bus from all switch to Sutton | :06:20. | :06:26.
Green at 4am. One of the passengers is asleep at the back of the bus. | :06:26. | :06:31.
This man looks like he is settling down for a casual nap as well. But, | :06:31. | :06:37.
no, it is a ruse to get him closer to the dosing passenger and his | :06:37. | :06:40.
phone. After a while, he settles down with a newspaper, not to catch | :06:40. | :06:47.
up with events, but as a decoy while he steals the phone. He even has the | :06:47. | :06:52.
cheek to check it out under his paper, before making a pretty | :06:52. | :06:57.
leisurely getaway. Take a good look at this laid-back thief, and call us | :06:57. | :07:02.
if you recognise his face. If you do recognise any of these | :07:02. | :07:12.
:07:12. | :07:16. | ||
faces, pick up the phone. You can call us. You can also text us. Of | :07:16. | :07:24.
course, you can e-mail us as well. Sean? | :07:24. | :07:30.
Rav, we are encouraged to keep an eye out for intruders but when one | :07:30. | :07:32.
good they both became concerned about a potential break in next | :07:32. | :07:39.
door, he ended up as the victim. A savage attack on a 62-year-old man. | :07:39. | :07:46.
I didn't know what was happening. Pain flashed through me. Now, the | :07:46. | :07:51.
hunt to catch the two men responsible is on. Simon was | :07:51. | :07:57.
enjoying a quiet night at home. He has asked us not to use his real | :07:57. | :08:01.
name for fear of reprisal. He was about to go to bed after staying up | :08:01. | :08:08.
to record a TV programme. When I go to bed at night time, I always check | :08:08. | :08:13.
up everything is locked up. Everything is OK, secured, the | :08:13. | :08:17.
windows and back door locked. particular night, he noticed | :08:17. | :08:22.
something which made him suspicious. I had seen a torch light over the | :08:22. | :08:29.
next door at a house. I thought it was a flashing light coming on and | :08:29. | :08:34.
off in the kitchen. Then, I saw it again. Anxious about what he had | :08:35. | :08:38.
seen, Simon went outside to investigate. But something bad was | :08:38. | :08:44.
about to happen to this good neighbour. | :08:44. | :08:51.
I shouted, what is going on, who is it? And this person just came out of | :08:51. | :09:01.
:09:01. | :09:07. | ||
nowhere. He noted me. -- nutted. I didn't know what was happening, pain | :09:07. | :09:11.
flashed through my head. Injured but desperate to see where his attacker | :09:12. | :09:18.
was going and doing, he followed. I went around the bend, I bumped | :09:18. | :09:26.
into a second man. I saw him lifting a hammer up. I thought, he is going | :09:26. | :09:31.
to hit me over the head. The second attacker then hit him repeatedly | :09:31. | :09:36.
with a hammer, in a savage and brutal attack. He hit me over the | :09:36. | :09:42.
arm, I could feel my bone crunching, the pain in my arm, I couldn't | :09:42. | :09:47.
believe that someone would do this to me. Someone so dangerous out | :09:47. | :09:57.
:09:57. | :09:57. | ||
there with a hammer. Basically he was trying to kill me. The pair of | :09:57. | :10:02.
men ran off leaving Simon seriously injured on the street. His arm was | :10:02. | :10:06.
broken but it could have been much worse. We are treating it very | :10:06. | :10:10.
seriously, it is a section 18 assault which carries life | :10:11. | :10:14.
imprisonment. But for the presence of mind of the victim who protected | :10:14. | :10:19.
himself with his arm, we could be looking at more serious offences, | :10:19. | :10:26.
they could have murdered him. I think the force used has been | :10:26. | :10:31.
excessive. He could have run away, pushed him over and made escape. | :10:31. | :10:37.
They took the option to assault him and sustain the attack on him which | :10:37. | :10:41.
has resulted in severe injury. is desperate for anyone with | :10:41. | :10:46.
information to come forward. I feel haunted by this man who has done | :10:46. | :10:55.
this to me. And gutted what he has done. I need him to be caught, | :10:55. | :11:03.
because I think he tried to kill me. On the night. He is a dangerous | :11:03. | :11:08.
person. This man needs to be caught as soon as possible and put away. | :11:08. | :11:14.
Simon says, until that happens, he will feel unsafe in his own home. | :11:14. | :11:22.
I am joined now by one of the main leaders in the investigation of this | :11:22. | :11:27.
case. A savage attack on a 62-year-old gentleman who sustained | :11:27. | :11:32.
injuries to his arm, a fracture, still causing him problems to this | :11:32. | :11:40.
day. He has been badly affected, a horrendous, terrifying the deal -- | :11:40. | :11:47.
ordeal. He was hit with a hammer several times. You are very keen to | :11:47. | :11:52.
track these bend down and you have pretty good description. The victim | :11:52. | :11:57.
has provided descriptions of the two people responsible. The first, | :11:57. | :12:07.
:12:07. | :12:08. | ||
having in East European accents, five tall -- having an East European | :12:08. | :12:15.
accent. Wearing a leather jacket and gloves. The second, and East | :12:15. | :12:21.
European accent, 40 years of age, six feet tall, wearing dark | :12:21. | :12:24.
clothes. If anything knows anybody after saying that, please get in | :12:24. | :12:30.
touch. You want anyone who recognises these men to get in touch | :12:30. | :12:36.
straightaway? Yes, the key to this lies in the community. Anybody who | :12:36. | :12:40.
sees those voters will know the responsible person. Please make | :12:40. | :12:45.
contact with the police as soon as possible. | :12:45. | :12:50.
Please keep those calls coming in, it really makes a difference. After | :12:50. | :12:56.
yesterday, police are following up some really strong leads, the conman | :12:56. | :13:01.
especially who pretended to be fixing Mary's electricity but | :13:01. | :13:08.
stealing from her purse. Many people got in touch offering help. And help | :13:08. | :13:15.
wanted in connection with people involved in violent disorder at a | :13:15. | :13:19.
Millwall match, police officers now have a potential name of one | :13:19. | :13:24.
suspect. We showed you the CCTV of a man kicking a traffic warden in the | :13:24. | :13:27.
head. Again, a number of potential names the him which police are | :13:27. | :13:32.
looking into right now. It is time to have a look at today's | :13:32. | :13:38.
Wanted Faces and we start with this man. | :13:38. | :13:45.
This man is wanted for connection with two counts of GBH where one man | :13:46. | :13:48.
was attacked and another attacked with a baseball bat. Police have | :13:48. | :13:53.
been looking for him 30 years. He had connection with the Kingston | :13:54. | :13:59.
upon Thames area. Next is this man. He is wanted for | :13:59. | :14:02.
by detectives in London in connection with an attack on to | :14:02. | :14:08.
serving police officers. His hair is now more grey than this image taken | :14:08. | :14:13.
in 2004. He has a distinctive scar on his left cheek, and described as | :14:14. | :14:17.
dangerous. If you know where he is, do not approach him, just contact | :14:17. | :14:23.
the police. Our third face is this man. He has | :14:23. | :14:29.
been on the run for ten years. He was given temporary police from | :14:29. | :14:33.
prison but failed to return. He was in gel for beating a woman to death | :14:33. | :14:39.
with a poker. This is an old photo but please do not think his | :14:39. | :14:42.
appearance has changed much. He was born in Oldham but could be anywhere | :14:42. | :14:49.
in the UK. Finally, this man. He failed to | :14:49. | :14:54.
appear before Harrow Crown Court in March 2010 on a charge of grievous | :14:54. | :14:59.
bodily harm and a warrant issued. He is originally from Brazil, and has a | :14:59. | :15:03.
12 inch vertical scar on his upper thigh. Last known to be living | :15:03. | :15:07.
around north-west London. If you recognise any of these faces, pick | :15:07. | :15:14.
the phone and please call us. You can text us. Of course, you can | :15:14. | :15:24.
:15:24. | :15:34. | ||
and had my folks and kidnapped in his own car that we find out. And | :15:34. | :15:44.
:15:44. | :15:48. | ||
tackling the burglars targeting missing Persons bureau to try to | :15:48. | :15:51.
find the 300,000 people who go missing every year. Thankfully, they | :15:51. | :15:56.
find most safe and well but some work involves having to identify | :15:56. | :16:01.
bodies, and they are looking for a man found in the Manchester canal in | :16:01. | :16:07.
March. That is in that direction. Inspector Morris, you can tell us | :16:07. | :16:12.
about this man. He was found in Bridgewater Canal in | :16:12. | :16:18.
March, in white male, 20 to 40 years old, no tattoo is all scores and a | :16:18. | :16:22.
full set of teeth. He was found in his underwear, long johns and a | :16:23. | :16:28.
black T-shirt. This is the closing that was found a | :16:28. | :16:33.
month before the body, it is related that case -- clothing. | :16:33. | :16:36.
It was found in month before we found him on the canal bank, along | :16:36. | :16:41.
with books. And you want anybody to take a look | :16:41. | :16:45.
at this clothing. The book she referred to are pretty unusual. You | :16:46. | :16:53.
have got them here. -- books. We took them to a professor at | :16:53. | :16:55.
Manchester University who said it is extracts from various religions and | :16:55. | :17:00.
it looks as though it has been researched online, but a lot of work | :17:00. | :17:05.
has gone into these works, they are nicely bound. | :17:05. | :17:08.
So potentially the man made these books from his own research. There | :17:08. | :17:14.
is handwriting on some pages when notes have been taken, so a what put | :17:14. | :17:18.
into this. A lot of homeless shelters around | :17:18. | :17:23.
Manchester, we have tried to trace him to these, but unfortunately we | :17:23. | :17:27.
have not been able to. So it does seem a mystery because | :17:27. | :17:33.
you have been to the usual places and you have tried to follow up on | :17:33. | :17:38.
the books, but it remains a mystery, so viewers could be vital in this. | :17:38. | :17:43.
He is not known to the police and has never been arrested. We have | :17:43. | :17:48.
fingerprints and DNA but not on the database, so if viewers can phone | :17:48. | :17:51.
in, hopefully we can return him to his family. | :17:51. | :17:54.
Look at this clothing and if you recognise it all the books, please | :17:54. | :18:01.
get into it. I am joined by Sherry Latham from | :18:01. | :18:04.
the serious organised crime agency which has launched a website to help | :18:04. | :18:07.
with cases like the one you have just seen, tell me more. | :18:07. | :18:13.
The missing Persons bureau launched this website in November last year | :18:13. | :18:17.
to enlist the help of the public to identify these people who still | :18:17. | :18:24.
remain unknown. It contains details of deceased individuals found with | :18:24. | :18:30.
no identification and a life people who for a number of reasons cannot | :18:31. | :18:37.
identify themselves -- alive. So somebody with dementia, for example. | :18:37. | :18:42.
And we can see details here, you have photographs of distinctive | :18:42. | :18:51.
marks on somebody, so you have got tattoo is here. That would be very | :18:51. | :18:58.
distinctive and that is a great clue in identifying somebody. And you | :18:58. | :19:02.
also use artist impressions, tell me about those. | :19:02. | :19:08.
Where it is not appropriate to have an image of the unidentified people, | :19:08. | :19:11.
police enlist the help of a forensic artist to put together a likeness of | :19:11. | :19:16.
that person and these are effective tools in identifying somebody. | :19:16. | :19:22.
There are other details that you do put on this website. This is | :19:22. | :19:31.
closing. Again, it is so distinctive it is the sort of thing that would | :19:31. | :19:41.
:19:41. | :19:42. | ||
jog somebody's memory. But this is a shield design, what does that mean? | :19:42. | :19:46.
We gave deep consideration before we developed the website about putting | :19:46. | :19:53.
images on it. The aim and the important thing is to identify them | :19:53. | :19:58.
and images is the best way to do that. We have tried to minimise | :19:58. | :20:01.
distress by obscuring those images, and people have to choose to view | :20:01. | :20:06.
them. We would not expect anybody to see images they do not expect to | :20:06. | :20:09.
see. And one not look at that now for | :20:10. | :20:14.
obvious reasons but if somebody wants to go on that, they can do. It | :20:14. | :20:17.
is a wee days but it is working, you have had a success story. | :20:17. | :20:24.
We recently had our first match through the site. We were contacted | :20:24. | :20:28.
not long after launch I somebody who had seen a case of a non-identified | :20:29. | :20:36.
female they thought could be an aunt of theirs. We had fingerprints of | :20:36. | :20:38.
the body and we worked retrospectively to find fingerprints | :20:38. | :20:42.
and we found it much. And it gives that family some form | :20:42. | :20:45.
of closure. It is about bringing resolution to | :20:45. | :20:48.
the family. Fascinating, thank you for | :20:48. | :20:54.
explaining it to was. What you to? I am reporting on a burglary | :20:54. | :20:59.
operation because that 28,000 reported burglaries in the Greater | :20:59. | :21:07.
Manchester area -- there were 28,020 12. The custody suites are getting | :21:07. | :21:11.
full and we went out on a burglary operation in the Mossside area of | :21:11. | :21:17.
the city. Burglary here is a chronic problem. | :21:17. | :21:23.
Most deaths are small-scale but for the victims, they are serious. This | :21:23. | :21:27.
sergeant and his team are running an operation to crack down on these. | :21:27. | :21:33.
Priority for the force is burglaries. Unfortunately, it has a | :21:33. | :21:38.
lasting effect for victims of crime in that when people are burgled, | :21:38. | :21:43.
they feel insecure in their own premises and their privacy is | :21:43. | :21:48.
violated, so we take it very seriously. | :21:48. | :21:52.
The property they are after is small, things like portables, your | :21:52. | :22:00.
tablets, gadgets they can carry. Most of what I say burglaries can | :22:00. | :22:07.
get down alleyways to shortcuts and if they are on bikes, they will | :22:07. | :22:12.
quickly disappear. As dusk settles, it is not long | :22:12. | :22:16.
before somebody catches the eye of the team, a male cyclist has been | :22:16. | :22:20.
seen repeatedly circling the area and they suspect he has his eye on | :22:20. | :22:24.
an unattended bike. They decided to check him out. | :22:24. | :22:33.
You are going to get searched. Hang on! Let go of me! | :22:33. | :22:37.
Keep your hands down. I will have to put you in handcuffs. | :22:37. | :22:40.
They suspect the man may be in position -- may be in possession of | :22:40. | :22:45.
bike is dealing equipment. With the man objecting to their search, they | :22:45. | :22:53.
do not take any chances. Why are you handcuffing me? ! | :22:53. | :22:59.
Stop palling! You cannot keep pulling against us. | :22:59. | :23:04.
When we first saw him, he was paying attention to a bike. We have a lot | :23:04. | :23:08.
of pedal cycles stolen and he seemed to watch it slowly. We have seen him | :23:08. | :23:13.
a couple of times circling round. The officers find the man has done | :23:13. | :23:18.
nothing wrong and he is free to go. Have a pleasant evening. | :23:18. | :23:23.
We have got quite a few of these houses taken up by students. | :23:23. | :23:28.
Potential for five or six students having a laptop, a phone each, so if | :23:28. | :23:33.
a burglar is to commit a burglary in one house, it could be potentially | :23:33. | :23:38.
yielding, so it attracts burglars. Later, a group of men on bikes are | :23:38. | :23:43.
asked to stop. Most of the men escaped but one man is not quick | :23:43. | :23:48.
enough. Why are you running? | :23:48. | :23:53.
I am not running. Why have your friends run off? Stop | :23:53. | :23:59.
lying to me. You try to run away, why? Why are you riding around the | :23:59. | :24:05.
streets? I have got nothing to hide. | :24:05. | :24:08.
Where did you get the bike from. My mate. | :24:08. | :24:16.
Tell me his name. I do not know his second name. I met | :24:16. | :24:20.
him on the main road. What is his telephone number? How | :24:20. | :24:22.
are you getting the bike back to him? | :24:22. | :24:27.
An officer spots a phone that seem suspicious. | :24:27. | :24:30.
That is not his bone, look at the contacts and the photos. | :24:30. | :24:37.
His story just is not adding up. that is not his phone. | :24:37. | :24:40.
He is arrested on suspicion of theft and taken into custody. | :24:40. | :24:45.
When we found a phone, there is a list of contacts and one was for | :24:45. | :24:51.
parents. We work -- we rang them and they confirmed the owner is a | :24:51. | :24:56.
student from Manchester. We will go to the address to establish why this | :24:56. | :24:58.
man was riding around with this phone. | :24:58. | :25:02.
Police arrived at the student's phone and he tells them what has | :25:02. | :25:07.
just happened. I turned round was trying to get | :25:07. | :25:12.
away from him and he came after me and pushed me against the railings, | :25:12. | :25:17.
went through my pockets, threatened to stab me. I did not see a knife at | :25:17. | :25:23.
a was not going to muck around. The main thing is I was not stopped, so | :25:23. | :25:27.
no harm has come. He is reunited with his phone and | :25:27. | :25:31.
his bike and seems none the worse for his ordeal. But that is not | :25:31. | :25:36.
always the case. When you are threatened with | :25:36. | :25:41.
violence, a chat -- it changes the way people live their life. So they | :25:41. | :25:44.
will not use certain routes, they will always be looking over their | :25:45. | :25:50.
shoulder at who is about and who is watching, and it can do hate. People | :25:50. | :25:54.
sometimes will not go out for weeks after a robbery so it is really | :25:54. | :26:00.
satisfying when we get somebody in. 2:30am, the team are on high alert. | :26:00. | :26:06.
This is prime time for offending. Hello, boys, we know what you are up | :26:07. | :26:13.
A gang of suspected burglars hotfoot it into an estate, the police are on | :26:13. | :26:18.
their tails. The suspects vanish into a network | :26:18. | :26:26.
of gardens and alleys, and all-too-familiar tactic. A search | :26:26. | :26:33.
turns up nothing, and it seems this time, they have escaped. But in all, | :26:33. | :26:37.
tonight's operation has been a success. | :26:37. | :26:41.
What is important is that during the night, we have not stopped anybody, | :26:41. | :26:45.
we have been targeting people we believe are acting in crime and it | :26:45. | :26:50.
has been led by intelligence. We have had people make from us in | :26:51. | :26:54.
hotspot areas that we are satisfied that we have prevented a crime from | :26:54. | :27:04.
:27:04. | :27:05. | ||
Busy night! And now back to the frightening incident we told you | :27:05. | :27:10.
about before, a shopkeeper who was ambushed after he left work to pick | :27:10. | :27:14.
up his children. Earlier, we saw how this father of | :27:14. | :27:20.
three and shopowner was ambushed on his way home. | :27:20. | :27:27.
I just felt scared. Nobody else was around and I was on my own. I | :27:27. | :27:32.
thought, I am helpless here. After shocking him with a stun gun, | :27:32. | :27:38.
these men put him in the back of a car and abducted him, they pushed a | :27:38. | :27:41.
cloth over his head that was so tight, he felt he was suffocating. | :27:41. | :27:50.
As soon as they put back of over my face, I could see nothing. I was | :27:50. | :27:53.
panicking and breathing heavily, I could not control my breathing, I | :27:53. | :27:58.
felt really help us. What happens next made his blood run | :27:58. | :28:02.
cold. They told him that they were | :28:02. | :28:06.
watching his family and that he would have to do what he was told if | :28:07. | :28:10.
he wanted to see them again. When they mentioned my family, my | :28:10. | :28:15.
children, it just really shocked me, I was really scared and I was | :28:15. | :28:23.
thinking, why are you involving my kids? If you want something from me, | :28:23. | :28:26.
get it from me. We cannot imagine how he must have | :28:27. | :28:31.
been feeling, to know his family were under threat must have been a | :28:31. | :28:35.
horrendous ordeal for him. I made my mind up, I am going to get | :28:35. | :28:43.
out of this situation. My only focus was my family and that is what made | :28:43. | :28:48.
me a stronger person from inside. The car kept moving, and by now he | :28:48. | :28:51.
was very distressed, blindfolded, upset, and with his family under | :28:51. | :28:58.
threat, he feared for his life but knew he had to act. What happens | :28:58. | :29:04.
next made him determined to escape. He said, give me your hands. And I | :29:04. | :29:10.
saw a piece of rope in his hands so I knew he would tie my hands up and | :29:10. | :29:16.
if he did that, I had no chance. My focus was to open the back door and | :29:16. | :29:20.
get out onto the road. He made the brave decision to open | :29:20. | :29:24.
the car door and jump out. I did not think of any consequences | :29:24. | :29:28.
of what was going to happen after that. | :29:28. | :29:33.
He obviously did not know what was going to happen next. He has been | :29:33. | :29:37.
through this terrifying ordeal and jumped from a moving vehicle, that | :29:37. | :29:41.
is how much threat he felt under of being abducted by these two men. | :29:41. | :29:47.
Wasim broke his wrist in the fall. I was really lucky to only have | :29:47. | :29:54.
broken my wrist and nothing else. I was thinking, if a car was coming | :29:54. | :30:00.
from the opposite direction, anything could have happened. | :30:00. | :30:05.
Wasim's car was found a few streets away, abandoned. Thankfully, his | :30:05. | :30:10.
family were safe and sound. I have got my life back and am with | :30:10. | :30:15.
my family again. I still feel scared going back to work. I am always | :30:15. | :30:19.
wary, looking around, I do not think it will be the same for a long | :30:19. | :30:22.
time. This is humour -- this is an | :30:22. | :30:26.
horrendous crime, they used a stun gun con and made threats against his | :30:26. | :30:31.
family, we need to catch them before they strike again because next time | :30:31. | :30:41.
:30:41. | :30:46. | ||
the consequences could be even more serious attack but it is a mystery | :30:46. | :30:51.
what these men wanted? They never actually make clear what they | :30:51. | :30:58.
wanted, they've made demands for keys but not which keys. Anybody who | :30:58. | :31:04.
was in that area, the car park at the junction, on Monday 11th of | :31:04. | :31:10.
March 20 six pm. . You have some descriptions of these men. Two male | :31:10. | :31:16.
offenders. They spoke Punjabi. In particular, with a dialect which we | :31:16. | :31:23.
know is particular to the Oldham and Bradford areas. That could be key to | :31:23. | :31:31.
the investigation. And, the stun gun, it had a horrific impact. What | :31:31. | :31:37.
do you know about the gun which was used? This is not the stun gun which | :31:37. | :31:43.
was used. We do not know the make or model used. These are very dangerous | :31:43. | :31:49.
weapons, not readily available but not impossible to get. We have had a | :31:49. | :31:52.
warrant executed in greater Manchester, someone has ordered a | :31:52. | :31:57.
stun gun from the Internet and the delivery company has notified the | :31:57. | :32:02.
police. Somebody has been arrested for purchasing a stun gun. So you | :32:02. | :32:12.
have taken one of these off the streets correct. If you can help the | :32:12. | :32:14.
police with this investigation, it is vital you get in touch. | :32:14. | :32:19.
We heard earlier how the UK Missing Persons Bureau has launched a | :32:19. | :32:26.
website to publicise unidentified people and remains. Keith is here | :32:26. | :32:31.
now and needs our help, tell us about your appeal? Two weeks ago | :32:31. | :32:36.
today we discovered the body of a lady in a shallow grave. We are | :32:36. | :32:41.
taking her death as murder and are appealing to the public for help in | :32:41. | :32:45.
identifying how. What have you got to go on at the moment? We have | :32:45. | :32:52.
built a profile of this lady. was petite, five, middle-aged, with | :32:52. | :33:01.
blonde hair. She had a lot of cosmetic dentistry. And she was | :33:01. | :33:04.
wearing for very distinguishable rings. We can see those on the | :33:04. | :33:09.
screen, are unique. Two of them in particular you want to know more | :33:09. | :33:17.
about. This one with a black heart. That was worn in a certain fashion | :33:17. | :33:23.
which interested you. This ring has a history in Irish Catholics, it was | :33:23. | :33:28.
worn with the heart facing into the body which could suggest this lady | :33:28. | :33:33.
was in a relationship. This other one with a number of stones, one | :33:33. | :33:39.
stone is missing, there could be a reason for that. Maybe this jokes | :33:39. | :33:46.
somebody's memory? It is a combination of four rings, so | :33:46. | :33:50.
possibly unique to one individual. There is further information you | :33:50. | :33:56.
want to release about a vehicle. a result of enquiries, we have had | :33:56. | :34:01.
witnesses come forward saying they saw a Renault vehicle around the | :34:01. | :34:09.
entrance, at ten pm. , and seen on two separate occasions. There may be | :34:09. | :34:14.
an innocent explanation, but I would appeal to the owner or driver to | :34:14. | :34:18.
come forward. If anyone saw the vehicle in the area at that time, I | :34:18. | :34:25.
would appeal to them to come forward to progress this. This Renault, it | :34:25. | :34:30.
could be a new or older model, it may not be that exact colour but it | :34:30. | :34:36.
will help people. Remind us of the date and time? Mid April this year, | :34:36. | :34:42.
two separate occasions, ten pm. , a slightly unusual golden colour. | :34:42. | :34:51.
Hopefully we can help you. Take a look at these shocking at | :34:51. | :34:56.
first sight. Just a small number of the weapons which have been taken | :34:56. | :34:59.
off the streets by Greater Manchester Police over the past | :34:59. | :35:03.
years and months. A variety of weapons we are going to take a good | :35:03. | :35:10.
look at now. Rod is from the serious crime division. Shocking to see | :35:10. | :35:14.
these. You are very well aware of what they are. How big a problem is | :35:14. | :35:22.
gun crime here? We have had major successes over the last five years, | :35:22. | :35:30.
it is fallen by over 60% -- it has fallen. | :35:30. | :35:37.
I was surprised, these are cigarette lighters. Beast macro -- beast macro | :35:37. | :35:44.
guns? This is a fully functioning weapon whereas that is a ball | :35:44. | :35:51.
bearing gun which was up to a few years ago available at Army and Navy | :35:51. | :36:00.
's -- stores. They are now illegal. This is interesting, I didn't know | :36:01. | :36:06.
what this was, small but lethal. This is a key fob firearm, capable | :36:06. | :36:12.
of discharging two rounds, just by depressing a button. I have dealt | :36:12. | :36:21.
with a fatality when that weapon was used. This is a zip gun. Pulling the | :36:21. | :36:27.
lever back, it can fired two rounds. We talked about stun guns earlier in | :36:27. | :36:31.
the programme. One has been intercepted today. There is one here | :36:31. | :36:36.
which looks like a mobile phone. looks like an older mobile phone but | :36:36. | :36:42.
it does exactly the same as the other two. It is illegal in this | :36:42. | :36:47.
country. What is public is how on earth do people get hold of them? | :36:47. | :36:52.
One of the joys of the Internet. They are available online. People | :36:52. | :36:58.
import them into this country. You have heard we have had an | :36:58. | :37:05.
interception today. Knives, machete attacks. They are not that common. | :37:05. | :37:09.
These weapons are hard to conceal. There is a lot of media attention. | :37:09. | :37:18.
The most common article used is a cooking knife. | :37:18. | :37:21.
Watch closely, we need your help to name more criminals caught on | :37:21. | :37:29.
camera. We are at a bar and nightclub in | :37:29. | :37:33.
London's West End. It is not open yet but this beef obviously does not | :37:33. | :37:38.
think it is too early for a table. This bar is deserted so he goes | :37:38. | :37:43.
around to help himself. His pockets are not big enough so he puts one | :37:43. | :37:49.
bottle in his trousers. He is not finished, though, and decides to | :37:49. | :37:54.
check out the other room. In there, he raids the fridge and steal small | :37:54. | :38:00.
bottles and, you have guessed it, they also go down his trousers. He | :38:00. | :38:05.
goes behind the bar again for a final top up, before leaving through | :38:05. | :38:11.
a fire exit with 900 of champagne and vodka. Do you know this thirsty | :38:11. | :38:19.
thief? Get in touch if you do. A jewellery shop in Hemel Hempstead. | :38:19. | :38:24.
And this man is on a mission. He had a threatening note to the shop | :38:24. | :38:28.
assistant. In it, he claims to have a stun gun and says he will shoot | :38:28. | :38:33.
unless he's given jewellery. The man then goes behind the counter with a | :38:33. | :38:37.
plastic bag and starts stealing stuff. The shop assistant sees his | :38:37. | :38:42.
chance and makes a run for it, closely followed by the thief whose | :38:42. | :38:47.
bag is holding 20,000 of jewellery. He fumbles with the door before | :38:47. | :38:52.
making his getaway. Do you know this stun gun grabber? Give us a call if | :38:52. | :38:58.
you do. It is Christmas Day in Gloucester. | :38:58. | :39:02.
It should be a joyous occasion but not for the woman with the white | :39:03. | :39:07.
handbag over her arm. Here she is walking into church. She makes her | :39:07. | :39:11.
way down the aisle choosing herself a seat in plenty of time for the | :39:11. | :39:16.
service. A few other people seem to be doing the same, but keep an eye | :39:16. | :39:22.
on the man in a blue coat. She leaves her bag and walks off. It | :39:22. | :39:28.
will be safe in a church, right? Wrong. This man has other ideas and | :39:28. | :39:33.
picks up her bag, hides it in his jacket and walks out. So much for | :39:33. | :39:43.
:39:43. | :39:43. | ||
goodwill to all men. Come on, tell us who this shameless thief is. | :39:43. | :39:48.
What a despicable crime on Christmas Day of all days. If you recognise | :39:48. | :39:51.
him or anyone else, do get in touch. | :39:51. | :39:58.
Please call. Or send us a text. Or drop us an e-mail. If you want to | :39:58. | :40:04.
remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers. | :40:04. | :40:14.
I am with the Northern division of the force. You have a brand new tool | :40:14. | :40:18.
which is proving effective. automatic resource location system | :40:19. | :40:24.
which tells us where officers are, compared with incidents is | :40:24. | :40:28.
happening. Before we get into detail, we want to set it a test | :40:28. | :40:33.
because we know you can track officers and their exact location. | :40:33. | :40:38.
Patrick, if you don't mind, going out there, we will follow your every | :40:38. | :40:44.
move on this map. How did you get this idea? It was something I | :40:44. | :40:50.
believe which appeared on TV, as a Hollywood dream. We have a system | :40:50. | :40:57.
now up and running. From the streets of Hollywood to Manchester. Let us | :40:57. | :41:03.
look at it now, what can we actually see? This is the greater Manchester | :41:03. | :41:08.
area. These are the police officers patrolling the streets. The triangle | :41:08. | :41:15.
shows the vehicles driving around. The square, incidences which are | :41:15. | :41:23.
ongoing where we send resources. How useful is it practically? Before, it | :41:24. | :41:29.
was just radios. For a major instance, we nearly had a gas | :41:29. | :41:33.
expansion in North Manchester, we could map our resources and set a | :41:34. | :41:39.
chord in. Where is Patrick now? about to lead the police station. | :41:39. | :41:48.
can follow him, the red Square. That will be Patrick going on patrol. | :41:48. | :41:52.
all works, thanks for explaining it to us. | :41:52. | :41:57.
Lots of calls coming in today. Some information already on one of our | :41:57. | :42:02.
faces, Teddy Simpson, wanted in connection with two attacks on | :42:02. | :42:09.
police officers. And another face, a possible lead, this man failed to | :42:09. | :42:13.
return to prison where he served time for beating a woman to death. | :42:13. | :42:20.
News just in, a possible name on the hammer attack in Manchester. That | :42:20. | :42:24.
horrendous attack. What are you doing tomorrow? | :42:24. | :42:28.
I will be down the road in Manchester city Centre, Friday | :42:28. | :42:33.
night, we will be out with the police and partygoers who flood into | :42:33. | :42:38.
the city centre over the weekend. will be looking at a common crime, | :42:38. | :42:43.
bike theft, and what you can do to avoid it. Thank you. For more | :42:44. | :42:49.
details, head to our website. Finally, we will leave you with | :42:49. | :42:54. |
