We're live once again and waiting for your calls. | :00:00. | :00:08.
The callous robber who beat up and robbed a visually impaired man. | :00:09. | :00:13.
Within seconds of that I was feeling blows to my head. | :00:14. | :00:18.
And football fans are hoping for a trophy at the Euros, | :00:19. | :00:22.
but this is the Jules Rimet World Cup and it's had | :00:23. | :00:25.
Hello and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow. | :00:26. | :00:56.
We're live for the last time this week, tackling crimes | :00:57. | :00:59.
A beloved pet dog killed and dumped in a canal. | :01:00. | :01:08.
I just wanted to know the reasons why, | :01:09. | :01:10.
And a savage attack on a vulnerable woman in broad daylight. | :01:11. | :01:17.
He shouldn't pick on people with learning difficulties, | :01:18. | :01:21.
because it's not nice to be knocked around. | :01:22. | :01:26.
Today Michelle's is in her home town of Manchester. | :01:27. | :01:33.
Good morning, Michelle. We are home in Manchester. | :01:34. | :01:41.
Manchester is home of two of the world's biggest football | :01:42. | :01:43.
teams and just behind me is the National Football Museum. | :01:44. | :01:46.
Millions of people watched England play Wales in a really exciting | :01:47. | :01:48.
match in the Euros yesterday and, talking of big tournaments, | :01:49. | :01:51.
We'll be finding out what happened when this was stolen 50 years ago. | :01:52. | :01:58.
But first, to a cowardly attack on a visually-impaired man. | :01:59. | :02:13.
Les Lightfoot has lived in the Hulme area of Manchester for five years. | :02:14. | :02:22.
You go to the park, which is only ten minutes away. I used to feel | :02:23. | :02:29.
quite safe there. There were no cars or anything. It gives me sense of | :02:30. | :02:35.
achievement to get there by myself. Over the years, Les' vision has | :02:36. | :02:42.
deteriorated and he now relies on a white cane to get around. I do now | :02:43. | :02:49.
have a fairly small area in my left eye where I can see quite clearly. | :02:50. | :02:53.
But it does mean I have to do build a picture up of what's happening | :02:54. | :02:58.
around me. The white cane looks for me as part of my visual system, if | :02:59. | :03:08.
you like. I've always been very independent. I worked pretty hard at | :03:09. | :03:15.
it. It was quite a struggle at times. Many times I wanted to give | :03:16. | :03:18.
up on it but I have persevered with it. On the 4th of April this year, | :03:19. | :03:25.
Les made the short journey to his local pharmacy. The sun came out and | :03:26. | :03:31.
I thought I had not been out for a while. I've got a prescription which | :03:32. | :03:35.
needs to be taken to the chemist. I will do that. Before heading home, | :03:36. | :03:44.
he stopped off for a copy. I was getting a little bit tired. I went | :03:45. | :03:50.
in, just had a coffee, sat for ten minutes, a little bit of a rest, and | :03:51. | :03:55.
then made my way back along the same route. I got to the apartment main | :03:56. | :04:04.
door and went to the keypad to put in the code. I remember getting it | :04:05. | :04:11.
wrong at least three times because I remember saying, third time lucky. | :04:12. | :04:15.
It was at this time I realised there was someone close to me. I turned | :04:16. | :04:20.
around, couldn't see them properly. It was a male I did not recognise, | :04:21. | :04:25.
so I said to them, are you living here? He said, no, I'm just | :04:26. | :04:32.
visiting. I said, would you mind bringing my bell, then and he moved | :04:33. | :04:37.
away and I thought no more of it. I made my way up the stairs. Got to | :04:38. | :04:45.
the first floor landing. When I realised someone was behind me. And | :04:46. | :04:53.
they pushed me into the banister and I felt like I was trapped. I felt a | :04:54. | :05:03.
going into my pockets. The person then said, "I only want your wallet | :05:04. | :05:10.
and your phone" something like that. He said, "Don't fight me." Within | :05:11. | :05:15.
seconds of that, I was feeling blows to my head. And that was the last | :05:16. | :05:22.
thing I remember. Until I came around in hospital sometime later. | :05:23. | :05:29.
Leslie was attacked in his own home where he should feel the safest. The | :05:30. | :05:34.
injury he sustained were horrific. Deeply unnecessary. Bearing in mind | :05:35. | :05:38.
the offender only actually got away with Les' wallet, his face was | :05:39. | :05:42.
extremely bruised, both his eyes were swollen, and he had a large | :05:43. | :05:46.
swelling on his forehead, as well. He fell down the stairs which caused | :05:47. | :05:50.
some really serious injuries to him, including a fractured kneecap which, | :05:51. | :05:55.
for someone like Leslie, is completely horrific. When the | :05:56. | :06:01.
reality of what happened dawned on me, I became a little bit of a | :06:02. | :06:07.
quivering jelly in the hospital. Most people go through life saying | :06:08. | :06:13.
that will never happen to me. But, when it does, it changes you. I'm | :06:14. | :06:22.
much more aware of people around me now and everyone I see as a | :06:23. | :06:28.
potential offender. It made me quite fearful, in that respect. As I get | :06:29. | :06:30.
older, that's only going to increase. Paul Les. | :06:31. | :06:37.
I'm joined by DC Louise Kelly from Greater Manchester Police. | :06:38. | :06:39.
This was a particularly cruel attack. Les is visually impaired and | :06:40. | :06:51.
walks with a white cane and whoever had attacked him would have seen | :06:52. | :06:55.
this. He always enjoyed his independence but since the attack | :06:56. | :06:58.
its knocked his confidence. Reminders of the detail of the | :06:59. | :06:59.
attack. The attack happened on Monday 4th | :07:00. | :07:05.
April 2016 just before 7pm at Les' Les had been out to do a few errands | :07:06. | :07:08.
and walked home via Stretford Road. We believe he may have been followed | :07:09. | :07:12.
back to his flat, where he was then robbed, punched | :07:13. | :07:15.
and as a result of the attack. He's also fallen down the stairs | :07:16. | :07:18.
and badly damaged his knee. And what do we know about the person | :07:19. | :07:21.
who's did this? We believe the suspect is possibly | :07:22. | :07:23.
an Asian or mixed race man, Approximately 5 foot 6 | :07:24. | :07:26.
and wearing a blue tracksuit. We believe he may have been riding | :07:27. | :07:29.
a bicycle and may have fled Les's The only got away with his wallet, | :07:30. | :07:33.
didn't he? Yes, that's correct. It's described as a brown leather | :07:34. | :07:47.
wallet and had a small amount Les did try and protect | :07:48. | :07:50.
himself but the violence used by the offender | :07:51. | :07:53.
was completely unnecessary. And if you can help, | :07:54. | :07:57.
please get in touch. Unfortunately Les' attacker | :07:58. | :08:01.
wasn't caught on CCTV. It's nearly It's closing time | :08:02. | :08:05.
at this shop in Bath Road. this shop assistants are packing | :08:06. | :08:25.
away when two masked men walk in. The first guy is carrying two large | :08:26. | :08:30.
knives and wearing a pair of tights over his head. If you look closely, | :08:31. | :08:35.
we catch a glimpse of the second man before he pulls on his mask. Smile, | :08:36. | :08:43.
you are on CCTV. The petrified shop assistants run away to safety with | :08:44. | :08:45.
one of the men shouting after them to come back. Not likely! They go | :08:46. | :08:52.
for a look around the shop. One tries to kick the storeroom door in | :08:53. | :09:00.
but, wait, what's the handle for? Champs. They don't find anything at | :09:01. | :09:05.
the back but as they turn, one of them even looks up the camera. They | :09:06. | :09:11.
eventually give up and leave empty-handed. Who are these would-be | :09:12. | :09:23.
robbers? It's a Monday evening in Humberside. A van is parked up near | :09:24. | :09:26.
a building site. The bloke in the passenger seat seems to be scoping | :09:27. | :09:33.
out the yard opposite. A few moments later, the van is going in. Two men, | :09:34. | :09:38.
dressed as workmen, get out and take a closer look at a road roller. This | :09:39. | :09:44.
may all seem quite normal, but there was a problem. This is not their | :09:45. | :09:46.
building site, it's not their roller. The bloke in the high viz | :09:47. | :09:51.
jacket tries to get the engine started while the other one in the | :09:52. | :09:54.
white T-shirt watches his mate do all the hard graft. After a phone | :09:55. | :09:59.
call, they finally managed to get the motor going. The guy in the | :10:00. | :10:04.
white T-shirt has now put on a jumper, and got out some ramps from | :10:05. | :10:09.
the van. Once it is loaded, they pack up and go. They turned the | :10:10. | :10:15.
corner and the bloke in the bloody jumps out to change the van's | :10:16. | :10:19.
numberplate. This machine is worth ?8,000. | :10:20. | :10:20.

Now, we're currently in the midst of the Euros but it's 50 years | :10:38. | :10:49.
since England won the 1966 World Cup. | :10:50. | :10:55.
Everyone remembers Sir Bobby Moore holding the cup. | :10:56. | :10:58.
On Sunday 20 March 1966, the Jules Rimet trophy was stolen. | :10:59. | :11:06.
Adam Comstive, you work here at the museum, | :11:07. | :11:08.
Three months before the tournament began the trophy was on display in | :11:09. | :11:20.
Westminster Hall in London and was actually stolen fold them as one | :11:21. | :11:24.
security guard on duty, an elderly man, on a break, and it's pretty | :11:25. | :11:28.
unbelievable the security levels back in those days. It wasn't stolen | :11:29. | :11:35.
for very long, was it? No, it was found by a dog called Pickles, at | :11:36. | :11:39.
the walk with his owner. We've actually got a clip of them. Take a | :11:40. | :11:41.
look at this. As I was putting the lead | :11:42. | :11:45.
on I noticed this package laying there, wrapped just in newspaper | :11:46. | :11:49.
but very tightly bound with string. I tore a bit off the bottom | :11:50. | :11:55.
and there was a blank shield, then there were the words Brazil, | :11:56. | :12:00.
West Germany and Uruguay printed. My heart started thumping against my | :12:01. | :12:13.
chest. It's the World Cup. After he found it, Pickles | :12:14. | :12:20.
became a national hero He was awarded a number of honours | :12:21. | :12:25.
and was even invited to the celebration banquet | :12:26. | :12:29.
after England won the cup. Now, unfortunately, there are some | :12:30. | :12:31.
other football-related crimes going on at the moment which have | :12:32. | :12:34.
less of a happy ending over Football is a family game but | :12:35. | :12:44.
unfortunately a small minority of people are ruining it for everybody | :12:45. | :12:54.
else. If people are considering going to the football,'s what tips | :12:55. | :12:59.
and advice would you give them to stay safe? I would say the vast | :13:00. | :13:04.
majority of people there are safe and the matches are taking place in | :13:05. | :13:08.
cities and towns quite densely populated, so if you are their | :13:09. | :13:12.
travelling, if you do see large crowds gathering and there is | :13:13. | :13:17.
clearly a mood change and it feels aggressive, and you see things | :13:18. | :13:20.
you're not happy with, walk away, get out of the area and reported to | :13:21. | :13:25.
police. Equally, avoid excessive alcohol drinking. Alcohol will be a | :13:26. | :13:29.
factor in the violence and it's been sad to see the small minority of | :13:30. | :13:33.
fans, England fan, getting involved in this trouble, but make sure you | :13:34. | :13:37.
get out of the way and reported to police and idled so same unless | :13:38. | :13:41.
you've got a ticket, avoid travelling. There are other places | :13:42. | :13:45.
you can watch the game away from any problems. Thank you very much. Some | :13:46. | :13:47.
sound advice there. When police investigate crimes, | :13:48. | :13:49.
like football hooliganism, they often rely on video | :13:50. | :13:51.
footage as evidence. Many officers already use | :13:52. | :13:53.
Body Worn Cameras which record But one police force has | :13:54. | :13:55.
gone a step further. For the last six months, | :13:56. | :13:59.
Cheshire Constabulary has issued officers with video recorders, | :14:00. | :14:01.
which stream images live, from a crime scene back | :14:02. | :14:05.
to the control room. PC Darren Mundey is here, | :14:06. | :14:13.
with one of the cameras. It's a standard video camera which | :14:14. | :14:22.
we take out onto the ground and we have done for many, many years which | :14:23. | :14:26.
of records onto a flash card cap as a back-up for us so that needs to go | :14:27. | :14:30.
to court at a later date, the clever bit we have is this here. It uses | :14:31. | :14:36.
technology and software which runs through and, using the cell network, | :14:37. | :14:39.
we can broadcast live from anywhere but has a mobile phone signal into a | :14:40. | :14:50.
control room. were so you just need that in the mobile phone signal? We | :14:51. | :14:56.
have a live stream, and we can see some unrest. There are officers | :14:57. | :15:00.
involved in some public order kit. Talk me through what we are seeing. | :15:01. | :15:06.
We had a protest where police had been deployed on the camera has had | :15:07. | :15:11.
a look in the control room has seen its starting to escalate from there | :15:12. | :15:14.
and we had some petrol bombs thrown. There are bats being used. The | :15:15. | :15:21.
control room can deploy staff appropriately and that the right | :15:22. | :15:24.
time and that a good pace and in the right direction. The difference with | :15:25. | :15:30.
CCTV is it is limited with the angle of the camera where as this can | :15:31. | :15:36.
follow it. I think it's fair to say that the protest is not real. They | :15:37. | :15:41.
are your staff and colleagues, but this is not pre-recorded, this is | :15:42. | :15:45.
live as it is happening. These student police officers, and it's at | :15:46. | :15:51.
the training centre in Winsford. But it does demonstrate how it works. | :15:52. | :15:56.
This is not pre-recorded, it is live but this kit has helped you deal | :15:57. | :16:00.
with real police emergencies, hasn't it? Yes we've used it where we had | :16:01. | :16:06.
protests and the staff were deployed appropriately on the ground but the | :16:07. | :16:10.
recording on the camera was able to go through the judicial process. The | :16:11. | :16:15.
beauty of the kit is you are relying on a mobile phone signal. Should the | :16:16. | :16:19.
signal go down, all is not lost. You can still draw out a number of | :16:20. | :16:23.
interesting and decent evidential facts. Absolutely. We are relying on | :16:24. | :16:30.
mobile phones and sometimes the signals drop but the camera still | :16:31. | :16:34.
records and sends signals to the control room so we can draw a square | :16:35. | :16:39.
around the bit we are interested in, some footwear, logo, somebody's | :16:40. | :16:45.
face. Very quickly, do you see that this could possibly involve from the | :16:46. | :16:49.
body worn cameras that they have at the moment? The technology is out | :16:50. | :16:54.
there and there is a lot of work going on the body worn camera and | :16:55. | :16:58.
streaming that back is on the horizon. I think this is brilliant, | :16:59. | :17:00.
Darren. Thanks for showing us. Next, can you help police find | :17:01. | :17:03.
the man who violently mugged a woman with learning disabilities | :17:04. | :17:06.
in Wigan? 61-year-old Susan Bannister has | :17:07. | :17:14.
lived in the Scholes area of Wigan for the last nine years. She is | :17:15. | :17:20.
well-known in her local community. I like going out. I like going dancing | :17:21. | :17:29.
on Wednesdays. Like going to work and talking to people. Susan has | :17:30. | :17:36.
learning difficulties but her mother, Joan, has always encouraged | :17:37. | :17:41.
her to live life to the full. We bought this house for Susan because | :17:42. | :17:45.
I wanted to see her living independently for when I am not | :17:46. | :17:49.
here. So she could live happily ever after. She is happy here, I am happy | :17:50. | :17:54.
she is here. She goes to her voluntary job two days a week. She | :17:55. | :18:02.
has a good life. But one sunny Thursday afternoon back in April, | :18:03. | :18:07.
all of that changed. It was the Queen's Birthday and Susan was | :18:08. | :18:10.
helping to put on a special party for the residents of her local care | :18:11. | :18:17.
home where she works. I love the Royal family, and she's 90. I like | :18:18. | :18:24.
talking to the old people. They like me, and it was nice. When Susan | :18:25. | :18:30.
finished work, she met her boyfriend Michael and they walked to the | :18:31. | :18:37.
shops. We went up to the chemist for Michael's tablets. But the couple | :18:38. | :18:44.
were being watched. As Michael stepped into the chemist and Susan | :18:45. | :18:47.
followed, she was viciously attacked. This fellow grabbed me at | :18:48. | :18:54.
the back and knocked me flying off the step to get my necklace of May. | :18:55. | :19:04.
I started to scream. It's the first time I have ever screamed in my | :19:05. | :19:11.
life. As Susan lay helpless on the ground, the thief ripped to chains | :19:12. | :19:14.
and rings from around her neck. He then ran off leaving Susan shocked | :19:15. | :19:21.
and confused. I felt scared. He hurt me. She was bruised all down her | :19:22. | :19:30.
left leg. Her neck was damaged when he dragged the necklaces. She had | :19:31. | :19:35.
two tops on and he had ripped both from top to bottom. Awful. It's my | :19:36. | :19:39.
jewellery, he shouldn't have taken it. The police are hoping that | :19:40. | :19:44.
somebody saw this brutal attack and have pieced together the robber's | :19:45. | :19:50.
escape route. The attacker ran from the chemist, cutting across this | :19:51. | :19:53.
grass verge in front of the church when he turned right. We know the | :19:54. | :19:58.
attacker continued to run along the street, where he made his escape | :19:59. | :20:04.
through the bushes. Using the short cut suggests he has local knowledge | :20:05. | :20:09.
and could well live nearby. Witnesses described the attacker as | :20:10. | :20:13.
smartly dressed wearing a matching dark coloured tracksuit, trainers | :20:14. | :20:18.
and dark sunglasses. We think Susan may have been targeted because she | :20:19. | :20:22.
is vulnerable. It was a cowardly attack on Susan and one which I am | :20:23. | :20:28.
personally appalled by. The robbery has had a lasting effect on Susan. I | :20:29. | :20:33.
look around now to see if they are there. I want to catch them because | :20:34. | :20:39.
they'll probably do it to other people. Susan wouldn't have been the | :20:40. | :20:43.
first and she won't be the last, will she? I don't like what he's | :20:44. | :20:47.
done. You shouldn't pick on people with learning difficulties. Because | :20:48. | :20:54.
it's not nice to be knocked around. That is just terrible. | :20:55. | :20:56.
Take another look at the man responsible. | :20:57. | :21:01.
They've been linked to hundreds of deaths. | :21:02. | :21:06.
We find out how the ban on legal highs is being policed. | :21:07. | :21:10.
And the family pet, stolen and killed. | :21:11. | :21:14.
She was found with a carrier bag on her head and wrapped around her neck | :21:15. | :21:26.
was some curtain wire. Now, police here in Manchester | :21:27. | :21:29.
are in the middle of a month long campaign warning people | :21:30. | :21:32.
against the dangers of drink As part of that campaign police | :21:33. | :21:34.
here in Manchester have released some really shocking footage, | :21:35. | :21:38.
PC Matt Picton is here now Back on the 29th of May this year we | :21:39. | :21:52.
had a shocking incident, and we can see the video of a young child with | :21:53. | :21:55.
his mother selecting some sweets from a shelf and a drunk driver | :21:56. | :21:59.
approaches the front of the shop and drives straight through the front of | :22:00. | :22:03.
the shop, demolishing the shop and traps the child inside. It is | :22:04. | :22:08.
shocking. How is the little boy? I spoke to the family yesterday and he | :22:09. | :22:11.
only suffered minor cuts and bruises, which is quite remarkable, | :22:12. | :22:15.
but the psychological effects on him and his sister who witnesses are | :22:16. | :22:19.
severe. That is totally understandable. What happened to the | :22:20. | :22:23.
driver? The driver was arrested and was charged and went to court and | :22:24. | :22:26.
was disqualified for three years after pleading guilty to provide -- | :22:27. | :22:31.
failing to provide a breath sample and driving without due care. What | :22:32. | :22:36.
is happening with your campaign? It is a month-long campaign for drink | :22:37. | :22:41.
and drugs driving and we want to hammer home the message that | :22:42. | :22:44.
drinking and taking drugs and driving is not acceptable in any | :22:45. | :22:48.
circumstances. We don't want people to stop enjoying football going out | :22:49. | :22:51.
and having a drink but do not get behind the wheel of a car. Part of | :22:52. | :22:56.
the campaign, it's just all about drinking, drugs are a big problem. | :22:57. | :23:02.
One of the biggest problems is new psychoactive substances formerly | :23:03. | :23:09.
known legal highs. The substances exploded onto the scene in 2009 when | :23:10. | :23:13.
Method Roan became fashionable and readily available. -- mephedrone. | :23:14. | :23:25.
The government soon bandit but producers of legal highs found other | :23:26. | :23:28.
ways to manufacture within the law. The drugs were often labelled as not | :23:29. | :23:32.
for human consumption, but that didn't stop people taking them. For | :23:33. | :23:36.
those who fell ill, treating them was far from simple. From a medical | :23:37. | :23:43.
point of view we know, for example, heroin causes respiratory and | :23:44. | :23:48.
cardiac depression. We note cocaine puts extra strain on your heart and | :23:49. | :23:53.
can lead to cardiac damage but we don't know about legal highs. In | :23:54. | :23:59.
2014, while still legal, the drugs were linked to 150 deaths in the UK. | :24:00. | :24:06.
Last month across just four days, nine people in Rochdale alone needed | :24:07. | :24:11.
treatment after taking them. But things are changing. Three weeks ago | :24:12. | :24:17.
a new blanket ban was brought in, making all so-called legal highs | :24:18. | :24:21.
illegal. And police in Rochdale were the first to react. | :24:22. | :24:24.
Here with me now is DI Andy Butterworth who's team made | :24:25. | :24:26.
Have legal highs always been a problem in Greater Manchester? | :24:27. | :24:30.
We have always had problems with legal highs in Manchester | :24:31. | :24:32.
unfortunately like many other places in the country. | :24:33. | :24:35.
But at the time the legislation came through this also coincided | :24:36. | :24:38.
with number of people falling ill in the through taking them. | :24:39. | :24:40.
Well, over the period of 4 days, nine males in the area became ill | :24:41. | :24:50.
after taking suspected psychoactive substances, | :24:51. | :24:55.
two ended up on a ventilator in hospital. | :24:56. | :24:57.
As a result we searched shops in Rochdale thought to sell | :24:58. | :25:02.
the substances and from one of the shops we seized these. | :25:03. | :25:05.
As you can see, there are lots of different types. | :25:06. | :25:09.
And these ones, Chronic, Pandoras Box, Inhilliation, | :25:10. | :25:12.
Clockwork Orange and Cherry Bomb were taken by the nine people | :25:13. | :25:15.
being taken ill just before the ban came in. | :25:16. | :25:17.
Then on the day the ban came in your team made the first | :25:18. | :25:20.
My team stop searched a mail at the shop and he appeared to be under the | :25:21. | :25:32.
influence of something and they recovered a psychotic substance and | :25:33. | :25:37.
subsequently they proceeded with the arrest of the person who sold it to | :25:38. | :25:39.
him. So three weeks ago these | :25:40. | :25:42.
were all legal? That is certainly not the case now, | :25:43. | :25:46.
and those found supplying any new psychoactive drugs | :25:47. | :25:49.
face serious consequences. Next, to a case where a beloved pet | :25:50. | :25:50.
was killed on Christmas Eve, leaving his distraught owner | :25:51. | :25:55.
searching for answers. Anthony Taylor from near Stockport | :25:56. | :26:10.
has always loved dogs. Two years ago he bought a puppy and the pair were | :26:11. | :26:22.
inseparable. Everybody loved Troyer. She was my best friend. She was with | :26:23. | :26:26.
me all the time and I took are as many places as I could. Troyer was a | :26:27. | :26:32.
rare breed, who had been imported from the Canary Islands. People see | :26:33. | :26:38.
them to be may be aggressive in the way they look but they are pretty | :26:39. | :26:41.
much just like a family guard dog. My girlfriend's daughter used to | :26:42. | :26:45.
sleep with her on the road and they used to but their arms around each | :26:46. | :26:49.
other. Pretty cute. She was part of the family. Troyer had her own | :26:50. | :26:57.
luxury kennel in the garden. It was a really quality well built kennel | :26:58. | :27:01.
which I had purpose-built for her, heated, everything like that. As | :27:02. | :27:05.
Christmas approached Anthony was looking forward to celebrating with | :27:06. | :27:09.
his girlfriend, her children and Troyer. We got Troyer a big bone and | :27:10. | :27:15.
we have that under the tree because we wanted to open presents with her | :27:16. | :27:20.
as well. On the evening of the 23rd of December, Anthony fed Troyer in | :27:21. | :27:24.
her kennel and asked his mum to look after her while he stayed at his | :27:25. | :27:28.
girl friend 's house. It was the last time he would ever see his | :27:29. | :27:38.
beloved id dog. -- his beloved dog. During the night, Troyer's kennel | :27:39. | :27:42.
was broken into and she vanished. I was devastated. I was devastated. I | :27:43. | :27:48.
just knew that somebody had taken her because of the way she had been | :27:49. | :27:56.
locked up at night. Anthony spent all of Christmas Day searching for | :27:57. | :28:01.
Troyer. I pretty much spoiled Christmas altogether. I add other | :28:02. | :28:06.
people helping me out, driving round different areas. I was getting | :28:07. | :28:10.
messages of hundreds of people to tell me they were searching for her. | :28:11. | :28:15.
Finally, weeks later, a friend called with the news Anthony had | :28:16. | :28:19.
been dreading. And she phoned me to say that she thinks there is a dog | :28:20. | :28:23.
in the canal and she took a picture and sent it through to me and I | :28:24. | :28:28.
could make the pattern out, and I pretty much knew. I had a few tears | :28:29. | :28:37.
while I was at work. I got in my van and I drove straight home. She was | :28:38. | :28:43.
just lying on the side of the canal bank with the cover over and record | :28:44. | :28:46.
wrapped around her neck. Her death was investigated by police | :28:47. | :29:00.
and the RSPCA. They confirmed the dog had been killed deliberately. | :29:01. | :29:05.
Troya was found with a carrier bag on her head and wrapped around her | :29:06. | :29:09.
neck was some curtain wire. Also attached to her collar was washing | :29:10. | :29:13.
line. The postmortem revealed that was probably strangled and | :29:14. | :29:18.
suspended. I can't actually believe something like this would happen. | :29:19. | :29:22.
I've never encountered anything like this. It's animal cruelty at its | :29:23. | :29:26.
worst. It's absolutely horrific, really. Months later, Anthony is | :29:27. | :29:35.
still searching for answers about Troya's death. It's just more | :29:36. | :29:40.
whodunnit and why. I just want to know the reasons why. She was such a | :29:41. | :29:48.
nice dog, sociable dog, everybody liked her, and if they had a | :29:49. | :29:53.
problem, just knock on the door and talk to me, have a chat. She has | :29:54. | :30:02.
left a massive gap, but sometimes she just comes back into my head. | :30:03. | :30:05.
I've had the odd nightmare and stuff like that. She just appears | :30:06. | :30:12.
sometimes. She's never forgotten. PC Torkington, you've been | :30:13. | :30:14.
involved in the case. It's hard to believe that someone | :30:15. | :30:18.
could do this. That's right and we think that two | :30:19. | :30:21.
people may have taken A neighbour heard some noise around | :30:22. | :30:33.
3am on Christmas Eve so we think she was taken around that time. Did a | :30:34. | :30:38.
postmortem revealed anything else? Unfortunately, it was not able to | :30:39. | :30:42.
tell us what time Troya entered the canals that could be any time | :30:43. | :30:46.
between Christmas Eve 2015 and lunch was found on January 18. You find | :30:47. | :30:52.
dog theft is a big problem? Not a massive problem. Sometimes are taken | :30:53. | :30:57.
for dogfighting. She may been taken for that reason but pure speculation | :30:58. | :31:04.
at this time. The local people really rallied around for Anthony | :31:05. | :31:08.
when they found out about Troya, didn't they? Yes, they held a vigil | :31:09. | :31:12.
for Tara and was a massive campaign. We've also raised about ?2500 as a | :31:13. | :31:19.
reward so we want information on who can tell if they saw Troya between | :31:20. | :31:25.
Christmas Eve 2015 and January the 18th 2016. Is Anthony doing OK now? | :31:26. | :31:31.
I believe he's getting over the initial shock. He just wants help to | :31:32. | :31:34.
find those responsible. Please come forward | :31:35. | :31:41.
of you have any information. Now it's time for a look | :31:42. | :31:43.
at today's Wanted Faces. Police forces around the country | :31:44. | :31:46.
are asking for your We start today with 21-year-old | :31:47. | :31:48.
Arkadiusz Studzinski. He was due to appear in court | :31:49. | :31:52.
in connection with an attack in which a man was kicked | :31:53. | :31:55.
several times in the head Originally from Poland, | :31:56. | :31:57.
Studzinski now has He's Leonard Christopher Haddlesey, | :31:58. | :32:01.
though he also calls himself He was found guilty | :32:02. | :32:07.

but didn't turn up for sentencing. Haddlesey is 47 and has links | :32:12. | :32:14.
to London, Hull and Beverley Third today is Anthony Vincent | :32:15. | :32:17.
Sanjurgo. The 24-year-old failed to appear | :32:18. | :32:24.
in court in connection with drugs He has a Liverpudlian accent | :32:25. | :32:27.
and a large scar on his right leg. Finally for today we have Mourad | :32:28. | :32:32.
Nehari. He's 24 and detectives in Cheshire | :32:33. | :32:36.
want to question him after a pensioner's bank card | :32:37. | :32:39.
was stolen and later used to buy Originally from Marseille in France, | :32:40. | :32:42.
Nehari now has links to London, If you know where any of the wanted | :32:43. | :32:49.

on a young man right On 23rd December, Joe Mottram | :32:59. | :33:03.
and his friends had been on a night When they came outside just before | :33:04. | :33:08.
2am he was assaulted. The last thing I remember was being | :33:09. | :33:24.
at the bar and my girlfriend was buying a drink and the next time I | :33:25. | :33:30.
saw daylight was in hospital. Outside the Tiger Tiger nightclub he | :33:31. | :33:32.
was punched to the ground. Whilst it was lying on the floor, another man | :33:33. | :33:38.
ran over and stamped on his head. Leaving him with life changing | :33:39. | :33:44.
industries. -- injuries. The blood was rushing into my lungs and they | :33:45. | :33:48.
were filling up with blood. So they had to put me into an induced coma. | :33:49. | :33:53.
This person left me for dead and made my mum and my friends say | :33:54. | :33:58.
goodbye to me. I don't want it to happen to anyone else. Just awful. | :33:59. | :34:02.
I'm joined by Detective Constable Anthony Strong | :34:03. | :34:04.
This experience has had a profound effect on Joe and his family. | :34:05. | :34:10.
Joe suffered very serious injuries to his head and jaw, | :34:11. | :34:18.
He's also suffered serious memory loss, which he has yet | :34:19. | :34:23.
His family were told to expect the worst by doctors | :34:24. | :34:26.
at the hospital, which is obviously extremely traumatic for them. | :34:27. | :34:28.
What can you tell us about what happened that night? | :34:29. | :34:31.
In the early hours of 23rd December last year, just before 2am, | :34:32. | :34:34.
Joe and his friends left the club and went outside. | :34:35. | :34:36.
They were were confronted by another group of men. | :34:37. | :34:39.
As he lay on the floor a second man came over and stamped on his head, | :34:40. | :34:47.
That Samantha are looking for. We can seize on CTV of it. Yes, the man | :34:48. | :34:58.
we are looking for is an Asian male, aged about 20 years old, five foot | :34:59. | :35:04.
five, slim build, on the evening wearing a black jumper with a white | :35:05. | :35:08.
shirt underneath and blue jeans. He's also got short dark hair in a | :35:09. | :35:14.
side parting style. We would urge anybody who recognises this man to | :35:15. | :35:20.
contact the police. He has suffered quite physical injuries but as one | :35:21. | :35:23.
psychological, this is something which is really affected him and his | :35:24. | :35:27.
family so please get in touch with us as ever. Details on your screen. | :35:28. | :35:29.
Rav, back to you the studio. Next, we need your help to catch | :35:30. | :35:32.
a prolific gang of distraction burglars who've targeted elderly | :35:33. | :35:35.
people across two counties Here to tell us more is DS | :35:36. | :35:37.
Ian Grimble from Suffolk Police, Ian, you've been able to link | :35:38. | :35:41.
a spate of burglaries On Saturday 9th April we had | :35:42. | :35:45.
reports of seven very A ruthless gang of three or four | :35:46. | :36:06.
males, or disguised, and one of the techniques they used was to try to | :36:07. | :36:10.
pretend to be from the water board, in order to steal valuables and cash | :36:11. | :36:14.
from elderly people. Let's have a look at a map and talk me through | :36:15. | :36:19.
what we're looking at here and where the offences taken place. | :36:20. | :36:24.
Yes, we believe the gang travelled up the A14 and went across country. | :36:25. | :36:27.
They started in Big Icklington in Bury St Edmunds at around 2.30pm, | :36:28. | :36:30.
attempting to trick their way into an elderly man's home, | :36:31. | :36:32.
Around an hour later, we think the same men | :36:33. | :36:35.
were in Knackton in Ipswich, before striking again in the village | :36:36. | :36:38.
I want to talk about that at the moment, particularly nasty. They | :36:39. | :36:44.
then moved on to commit four more burglaries in Norfolk. They targeted | :36:45. | :36:55.
a 94-year-old woman. They stole ?3000 cash from her and also stole | :36:56. | :36:59.
high-value jewellery and cash from the other addresses. Totally | :37:00. | :37:04.
unacceptable. The 80-year-old had particularly horrendous ordeal, | :37:05. | :37:09.
didn't he? Yes, the 84-year-old was pinned down, had a screwdriver held | :37:10. | :37:13.
to a slowed and was threatened. This is a ruthless gang that... They | :37:14. | :37:20.
clearly need to be caught. Thankfully you have some CCTV which | :37:21. | :37:23.
you think could be of the offenders. We have got a car. This is a Jaguar | :37:24. | :37:30.
XS are which we believe was stolen on the 24th of March from the | :37:31. | :37:34.
Wellingborough area. It was used on false plates. This was 11:30am at a | :37:35. | :37:40.
BP in Wellingborough. One man goes into the garage and fills up. They | :37:41. | :37:45.
were all wearing flat caps, shirt and tie is, and they are aware of | :37:46. | :37:52.
the CCTV and tried to hide their face. These are individuals we are | :37:53. | :37:57.
interested in. So this person inside and also this one with a hat on, | :37:58. | :38:03.
they always wear their hats. That's correct, Rav. They all wore smart | :38:04. | :38:10.
clothing, shirt, ties, trilby hats. Surely someone must know who they | :38:11. | :38:13.
are and that's all you want. You just need names from the public? | :38:14. | :38:19.
That's correct. If anybody can identify these individuals and saw | :38:20. | :38:23.
them on that date, on the Saturday, and also anyone who was got any | :38:24. | :38:31.
information about the stolen Jaguar. We need information about the car | :38:32. | :38:32.
and who they are. Take another look at these images | :38:33. | :38:41.
and if you know who they are, Over the weekend, there | :38:42. | :38:44.
was a huge festival here in Manchester with over 80,000 - | :38:45. | :38:48.
Parklife. Just like any festival, the police | :38:49. | :38:50.
were expecting many drugs on site. In charge of the security operation | :38:51. | :38:53.
on behalf of GMP was Lovely to meet you. It was a | :38:54. | :39:02.
successful in busy weekend for you, wasn't it? I'm pleased with how | :39:03. | :39:06.
things went. We seized hundreds of drugs, and I brought a selection to | :39:07. | :39:11.
show you. How did it work? We have a really strong relationship in | :39:12. | :39:16.
partnership with Park life, the organiser and the event security. | :39:17. | :39:19.
Everybody is search, passing through sniffer dogs. The exterior of the | :39:20. | :39:24.
site there are drugs around the bins where people can surrender them in | :39:25. | :39:29.
those areas. Last year, they were so popular, we had to bring in bigger | :39:30. | :39:36.
bins. We also run a policing operations throughout the weekend to | :39:37. | :39:39.
target drug dealers as well. It's a real team effort at festivals like | :39:40. | :39:44.
this especially concerning drugs. Yes, huge effort. Everyone committed | :39:45. | :39:47.
to making sure they enjoy themselves, enjoy the festival | :39:48. | :39:55.
safely. When we seized drugs, it's important to understand what they | :39:56. | :39:59.
are. And, more importantly, what is in those drugs, so we work closely | :40:00. | :40:02.
with the loop charity who do testing for us. Thank you very much. Let me | :40:03. | :40:07.
introduce you now to Works with police here | :40:08. | :40:11.
and across the country at clubs and festivals and you have this | :40:12. | :40:17.
great piece of drug testing we can identify drugs used in about | :40:18. | :40:25.
60 seconds. We tested 300 people at the Festival last weekend and so we | :40:26. | :40:30.
could let emergency services no on-site what was circulating. Let's | :40:31. | :40:36.
get the testing starting. We have got a packet with a white powder, | :40:37. | :40:42.
unknown. We put a sample onto the plate, pull the clamp-down and it | :40:43. | :40:45.
will compare the unique footprint that sample with the database which | :40:46. | :40:50.
contains all of the different samples, so if we wait 60 seconds, | :40:51. | :40:54.
the results will come up and we can see if you look at the screen, this | :40:55. | :41:01.
is 928 out of 1000 hit quality of MDMA. Very high quality. | :41:02. | :41:06.
Essentially, a matching process. A laser beam goes through here and | :41:07. | :41:10.
matches it with the database. That's correct and there's hundreds and | :41:11. | :41:13.
hundreds of different drugs on the database. Earlier the girl died from | :41:14. | :41:21.
ecstasy. Unfortunately, 17-year-old died in Manchester last month taking | :41:22. | :41:27.
red MasterCard pills. We tested them on site and they had 250 mg of MDMA | :41:28. | :41:33.
which is ten times the strength of some of the pills. Gosh, let's see | :41:34. | :41:40.
what the results show up. This shows the sample, this bag contains | :41:41. | :41:44.
crystal MDMA, with a hit quality of 900 made out of 1000 which is high | :41:45. | :41:51.
purity. That is a high strength and it shows how effective this testing | :41:52. | :41:55.
is. It's really helping. It's saving people's lives at the end of the | :41:56. | :41:59.
day. Thank you very much. Rav, back to you. | :42:00. | :42:01.
Just time for an update on what's come in on the phones and remember | :42:02. | :42:05.
the shocking raid at the home of Dennis and June in Rotherham | :42:06. | :42:08.
As a result of this appeal, a 21 man has been charged with arson full for | :42:09. | :42:13.
the appeared before Westminster magistrates yesterday. Sam Sheldon | :42:14. | :42:23.
had a broken cheekbone after a night out with friends and he was attacked | :42:24. | :42:27.
and we are now looking into potential new lead on the attack as | :42:28. | :42:30.
a thank you to everyone who's got in touch. | :42:31. | :42:31.
Please do keep those calls, texts and emails coming in. | :42:32. | :42:34.
