We're live and we need your help to crack down on crime. | :00:00. | :00:09.
The armed gang who went to terrifying lengths | :00:10. | :00:12.
He said if you do not do as you are told, I will shoot you, and I | :00:13. | :00:31.
believed him. And I will take to the sky with the National Police Air | :00:32. | :00:32.
Service. Hello and welcome to | :00:33. | :00:35.
Crimewatch Roadshow, the programme that's on a mission | :00:36. | :01:00.
to solve the crimes It started with stones | :01:01. | :01:02.
being thrown at a window, but ended with a pensioner nearly | :01:03. | :01:08.
losing his hand. and no one will be safe | :01:09. | :01:16.
as long as he is free. And where are the droids | :01:17. | :01:23.
he's looking for? A Star Wars fan's lifetime | :01:24. | :01:25.
collection stolen. If I got the collection back I'd | :01:26. | :01:29.
feel as though I was whole again, because I don't really | :01:30. | :01:34.
want to collect other people's toys. And Michelle is with the National | :01:35. | :01:37.
Police Air Service near Wakefield. Good morning. | :01:38. | :01:49.
Yes, this is one of their 17 bases across the country. The rotors are | :01:50. | :01:56.
starting up on the police helicopter and later I will go on board to see | :01:57. | :02:00.
how they track down crooks from the sky. | :02:01. | :02:01.
First this morning, a nasty armed robbery in Leeds | :02:02. | :02:04.
But it wasn't the limited edition Porsche the thieves were after, just | :02:05. | :02:10.
Fans of Top Gear will know this is a Porsche Carrera GT. 0- 60 in four | :02:11. | :02:30.
seconds, with a top speed over 200 mph. Only 1270 were ever made. Only | :02:31. | :02:40.
ten remain in the UK. But if they need repairing, there are only a | :02:41. | :02:43.
handful of people who can do the job. Ian Mitchell has been in the | :02:44. | :02:51.
motor trade since he was 12. My business is repairing accident | :02:52. | :02:59.
damaged, high end cars, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW. I enjoy my job. A lot | :03:00. | :03:05.
of people get to my age and have had enough but I enjoyed my job. | :03:06. | :03:10.
Recently, Ian had been preparing a badly damaged Porsche Carrera GT | :03:11. | :03:17.
worth hundreds of thousands. Limited edition, top of the range, the car | :03:18. | :03:22.
that all Porsche owners want. While repairs were carried out there were | :03:23. | :03:26.
many Porsche parts in his garage and they have not gone unnoticed. Last | :03:27. | :03:33.
September Ian popped in to work on a Saturday afternoon to finish off | :03:34. | :03:38.
paperwork. Quarter to four, two blokes came in and asked for a price | :03:39. | :03:47.
for a job. Hello, are you all right. After a discussion Ian gave an | :03:48. | :03:54.
estimate and they left. Few minutes they came back. The door went again. | :03:55. | :04:05.
The tall one coming back in. I thought he was coming to book in. | :04:06. | :04:10.
Cave into the office and I was looking down the barrel of a gun. | :04:11. | :04:13.
Just do as we say. It seemed surreal, like it was not | :04:14. | :04:20.
happening. The big one was holding the gun. He turned around and says, | :04:21. | :04:25.
if you want to go home tonight, you do as you are told. Hold out your | :04:26. | :04:34.
hand is! -- hands. I will never forget looking at the knife and | :04:35. | :04:38.
thinking, that is a nasty looking thing. The little one moved out of | :04:39. | :04:43.
the office and I thought, I have had enough. I pulled off the cable ties. | :04:44. | :04:50.
Thinking he was left alone, Ian headed out to lock the front door. | :04:51. | :04:57.
Do you want me to shoot you? I have nothing to defend myself with so I | :04:58. | :05:01.
backed into the office. I grabbed him. There was a tussle. I felt a | :05:02. | :05:12.
blunt Fard in my back. At that point, the gun, a revolver type gun, | :05:13. | :05:19.
some bullets fell onto the floor. I thought I had better start doing as | :05:20. | :05:24.
I am told if I don't, I will get seriously hurt. He said, if you do | :05:25. | :05:29.
not do as you are told, I am going to shoot you. I believed him. To be | :05:30. | :05:36.
honest, I believed him. With Ian no longer resisting, the men taped him | :05:37. | :05:43.
to a chair and blindfolded him. If I looked out like that I could see out | :05:44. | :05:48.
of the bottom of my left eye to see what was happening. Ian could see | :05:49. | :05:52.
the men were selecting and piling up the rare Porsche parts. They knew | :05:53. | :05:58.
exactly what they were looking for and where they work, as if they had | :05:59. | :06:03.
been in before. I had never seen them before. The thieves started to | :06:04. | :06:10.
load a white transit van. In total, they took ?140,000 parts. Clearly a | :06:11. | :06:20.
lot of planning went into this. They brought with them weapons, the gun, | :06:21. | :06:24.
the machete. They are dangerous, they are violent. Ian was | :06:25. | :06:29.
traumatised, terrified on the evening. It was a harrowing | :06:30. | :06:37.
experience. We need to identify these two men. Ian needed stitches | :06:38. | :06:42.
to the laceration on his hip and has struggled to come to terms with the | :06:43. | :06:47.
event. I used to always work late and I have stopped doing that, | :06:48. | :06:53.
stopped working weekends. I work behind locked doors, which is | :06:54. | :06:57.
strange when customers cannot get in, they have to knock on doors, | :06:58. | :07:01.
things like that. I had to put cameras in. It has impacted on | :07:02. | :07:03.
everything. A very scary robbery. Detective Constable | :07:04. | :07:08.
Ailis Coates is with me. What do we know about the men who | :07:09. | :07:20.
did this? As you can see from CCTV, the first is a white male, 35 years | :07:21. | :07:27.
old, tall, over six foot. Athletic build and closely shaved hair. He is | :07:28. | :07:32.
wearing a grey hooded top with an emblem. White tracksuit -- tracksuit | :07:33. | :07:41.
bottoms with white stripes. The second is approximately 25 years, | :07:42. | :07:46.
between five foot four and five tall with dark short hair, dark eyes and | :07:47. | :07:53.
stubble. Both are described as having northern accents. He is | :07:54. | :07:59.
wearing a black hooded top, tracksuit bottoms, and trainers. | :08:00. | :08:03.
They took weapons, one being a silver revolver and another a | :08:04. | :08:06.
machete approximately 14 inches long. Are they local to the area? | :08:07. | :08:14.
No. We know the suspects made phone calls to Porsche dealerships in the | :08:15. | :08:18.
Manchester area and we believe they are from the Manchester area and | :08:19. | :08:21.
urge anyone offer the parts to come forward. What would you say to other | :08:22. | :08:26.
businesses in the area who might be worried? They do not need to be | :08:27. | :08:32.
worried. This was a targeted attack, it was the Porsche Carrera GT parts | :08:33. | :08:37.
they were after. We know the men had weapons. They are described as | :08:38. | :08:41.
dangerous and we urge the public not to approach them but to contact us | :08:42. | :08:47.
instead. Ian has improved security on the premises and no parts are | :08:48. | :08:54.
kept there any more. Thanks. Do take another look at these men. | :08:55. | :08:59.
They need to be caught. They are very dangerous and so do not | :09:00. | :09:03.
approach them but if you recognise them, we need you to get in touch. | :09:04. | :09:11.
Next a round-up of crooks caught on CCTV. This bloke is sitting on the | :09:12. | :09:20.
steps of the London hotel having a cigarette. These two Merrie men ask | :09:21. | :09:25.
for a lighter and after he obliges, the man in a red body warmer offices | :09:26. | :09:32.
hand for a fist bump. He then sweeps into a half-hearted hug, but look | :09:33. | :09:36.
closely, while his friend is distracting the smoker with pats on | :09:37. | :09:40.
the back, he steals his watch. This wasn't just a normal watch. It was | :09:41. | :09:51.
Rolex worth ?10,000. Bring us now and call time on these two. | :09:52. | :09:57.
It is the early hours of the morning and this person with a helmet has | :09:58. | :10:03.
found their way into a bakery, not for a midnight snack. The mystery | :10:04. | :10:10.
person starts pouring a liquid from a petrol can all over the shop. He | :10:11. | :10:14.
then head back towards the door and leaves. A few minutes later, the | :10:15. | :10:21.
intruder is back and lights up the liquid trail. Flames spread | :10:22. | :10:26.
throughout the shop, causing ?50,000 of damage to equipment and stock. | :10:27. | :10:32.
This bakery had been undergoing refurbishment and was due to open | :10:33. | :10:36.
that morning. Luckily, no bomb was hurt. But this firestarter in the | :10:37. | :10:41.
distinct helmet needs to be stopped. Call us now. | :10:42. | :10:48.
A lady is at a cash machine and has entered her PIN number. This man | :10:49. | :10:54.
strikes up a conversation. Police say he is using a newspaper to hide | :10:55. | :11:00.
some button pressing. He carries on talking to her and uses the | :11:01. | :11:04.
newspaper to cover part of the cash machine. This is it again. | :11:05. | :11:10.
Detectives say he managed to request ?300 in cash and think he has done | :11:11. | :11:18.
the same crime since. Who is he? We need to catch him now. | :11:19. | :11:20.
If you spotted anyone you knew, call us now. | :11:21. | :11:22.
Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones. | :11:23. | :11:26.
Text CW, space and then your message. | :11:27. | :11:31.
Texts will be charged at your standard message rate. | :11:32. | :11:34.
I'm inside the National Police Air Service helicopter. | :11:35. | :11:51.
With me is Tactical Flight Officer Neil Martin. | :11:52. | :12:02.
It seems a pretty complex job. They can zoom down on the ground. | :12:03. | :12:58.
The National Police Air Service covers the whole of England and | :12:59. | :13:07.
Wales. With 17 bases, crews can respond to emergency calls within | :13:08. | :13:13.
minutes. Mansfield railway station. Their job as the eye in the sky is | :13:14. | :13:22.
to support police on the ground. The heart of the National Police Air | :13:23. | :13:27.
Service is here, at the operational control room in Wakefield. The crew | :13:28. | :13:32.
are making their way to the aircraft. Have you got an incident? | :13:33. | :13:36.
Where they respond to over 200 calls per day. | :13:37. | :13:44.
West Yorkshire Police are aware. The National Police Air Service | :13:45. | :13:47.
operations centre is unique. It is the first and only in the country. | :13:48. | :13:53.
The type of incident we attend can vary from a suspect search to a | :13:54. | :13:59.
firearms incident, a reported stolen vehicle, a vehicle pursued. The | :14:00. | :14:05.
helicopter bases range from Exeter to Newcastle and support 43 police | :14:06. | :14:12.
forces. Today, call operators Alison and Lawrence are looking after the | :14:13. | :14:17.
North East and the west of England. We try to get to 98% of the | :14:18. | :14:22.
population within 20 minutes. The aircraft can fly 120 mph and if they | :14:23. | :14:28.
are 20 miles away they will get there in ten minutes. The | :14:29. | :14:33.
helicopters provide a live feed of action to the control room and | :14:34. | :14:34.
Lawrence must monitor the screens. We are a vital link between policing | :14:35. | :14:46.
on the ground and air support. A call has come in from the police | :14:47. | :14:50.
on the ground in Bradford who need help pursuing a stolen car. At the | :14:51. | :14:55.
base near Leeds, the crew jumped into action. | :14:56. | :15:00.
There are a lot of systems to employ and a lot of things to do at the | :15:01. | :15:04.
same time. We get the minimum details and get to task. | :15:05. | :15:11.
We can do that in a hurry, less than three minutes. | :15:12. | :15:17.
Whilst Neil Pratt the helicopter camera, Lee Beevers is in charge of | :15:18. | :15:21.
all the operations and communications back to base. | :15:22. | :15:25.
It is only once airborne that he finds out where they are going. | :15:26. | :15:33.
Centre of Bradford. OK. Travelling at 125 mph, it will take | :15:34. | :15:38.
them just nine minutes to catch up with the stolen car. | :15:39. | :15:46.
If there is a pursuit, we can follow the car while the pursuing cars can | :15:47. | :15:51.
drop off. That can enhance the safety. | :15:52. | :16:00.
Two and a half minutes away. Before they can get near, the job is called | :16:01. | :16:05.
off. Thank you, we have been cancelled | :16:06. | :16:09.
from the job. The car has been stopped and two men | :16:10. | :16:12.
arrested. So, it is back to base. The job can | :16:13. | :16:19.
be used stressful on occasions. There is no time to rest as another | :16:20. | :16:23.
call immediately comes in. Very few details. They will be | :16:24. | :16:29.
starting up now and shouting they are listing. | :16:30. | :16:31.
We are ready to lift. This time, a missing person. | :16:32. | :16:37.
It is confirmed we are airborne. With you in about nine minutes. We | :16:38. | :16:45.
are looking for a 14-year-old girl. Walking in the woods, she has got | :16:46. | :16:48.
lost. With a missing child, we would want | :16:49. | :16:54.
to be helping the search as quickly as possible. | :16:55. | :16:57.
The 14-year-old girl has learning difficulties and is thought to be | :16:58. | :17:01.
lost in some woods near Doncaster. The location is remote and fast. | :17:02. | :17:06.
A group of three on the path, three o'clock. | :17:07. | :17:16.
Do we know what coloured top? Blue jogging bottoms, Brown top, | :17:17. | :17:19.
black coat. On a warm day, a thermal camera is | :17:20. | :17:23.
not so good. But she could be wearing distinctive | :17:24. | :17:26.
clothing so we can use the day camera. | :17:27. | :17:32.
While I am concentrating, the picture from the camera paints 1000 | :17:33. | :17:37.
words, people can see what is happening, see the officers on the | :17:38. | :17:39.
ground. The target position is where the | :17:40. | :17:41.
bodies are. How long ago was the sighting? | :17:42. | :17:48.
45 minutes ago. We have five minutes left on scene, it is negative at | :17:49. | :17:52.
this time. Having a good look around the water. | :17:53. | :17:57.
Because of the strict aviation rules, they only have minutes left | :17:58. | :18:02.
in the air. They desperately try to find the girl. | :18:03. | :18:09.
Blue joggers, brown top, black coat. I think that is us. With their time | :18:10. | :18:14.
up, they must hand the search over to the night crew. | :18:15. | :18:20.
If you are involved in a pursuit or serious incident and contributing to | :18:21. | :18:23.
the capture of a criminal, or finding a missing person, it isn't | :18:24. | :18:28.
much more rewarding than that in the police force. | :18:29. | :18:37.
Thankfully, the girl was found safe and well. | :18:38. | :18:39.
Let's see if we can speak now to the pilot, James. | :18:40. | :18:46.
Talk me through the situations you face in the air? | :18:47. | :18:53.
We do a wide range of tasks, looking for missing people, vehicle | :18:54. | :18:57.
pursuits, following suspects. It is intense, you are multitasking | :18:58. | :19:02.
and the technology looks pretty complicated to me, this is part of | :19:03. | :19:06.
your daily job. It gets busy, six radios to listen | :19:07. | :19:10.
to, seeing what is on the camera at the front, looking out the window | :19:11. | :19:15.
for an idea on the ground. Other particular problems you face? | :19:16. | :19:21.
The weather presents challenges. Now we are a national service travelling | :19:22. | :19:26.
further afield, geography as well. There has been an issue with these | :19:27. | :19:31.
laser pointers, what has been the problem? | :19:32. | :19:34.
People at night target us with laser devices, attacking aircraft flying | :19:35. | :19:39.
near their house. It can be incredibly distracting. It can have | :19:40. | :19:44.
serious consequences. We are flying single pilot. These can cause/ | :19:45. | :19:47.
Lyness. This is why you have special | :19:48. | :19:52.
glasses, how do they work? These particular glasses have a die | :19:53. | :19:57.
in them to absorb the laser. Let us do a demo, if I shine a | :19:58. | :20:02.
light, this is blocking it from reaching the helicopter. If we take | :20:03. | :20:07.
those away, you can see it comes straight through. These are really | :20:08. | :20:11.
useful for you. Very useful. Thank you. | :20:12. | :20:17.
Great that we can hear you again, apologies for the break up in sound. | :20:18. | :20:19.
An unprovoked attack with a meat cleaver that nearly cost | :20:20. | :20:23.
The only thing that came to mind was survival. | :20:24. | :20:30.
Two months on, has the law on micro-chipping dogs | :20:31. | :20:33.
Now, in London last year, almost 43,000 people | :20:34. | :20:48.
were reported missing to the Metropolitan Police. | :20:49. | :20:50.
Thankfully, most were found safe and well. | :20:51. | :20:51.
But that still leaves thousands of families looking for answers. | :20:52. | :20:54.
He went missing more than six months ago. | :20:55. | :20:59.
In a moment, we will hear from his son and grandson. | :21:00. | :21:01.
But first, I'm joined by Detective Chief Inspector Mike | :21:02. | :21:03.
Welcome to the programme, what can you tell us about his disappearance? | :21:04. | :21:13.
Brian lives alone in Abbey Wood, south-east London. | :21:14. | :21:19.
Brian is 86, he was 85 at the time he went missing. | :21:20. | :21:23.
He is five feet and seven inches, medium build, a white man as you can | :21:24. | :21:26.
see. He was last seen in his front garden | :21:27. | :21:32.
at ten o'clock on the 23rd of September, in the morning, going | :21:33. | :21:37.
back into his house. As you would expect, his family are | :21:38. | :21:40.
very concerned about what they have happened to him, as we can see now. | :21:41. | :21:45.
He is nice, a generous person, he would talk and help anyone. Anyone | :21:46. | :21:51.
from the street, everyone knew him because he was so nice. | :21:52. | :21:57.
It is very heartbreaking to find him not here, wondering where he is. You | :21:58. | :22:01.
keep thinking about him all the time. | :22:02. | :22:05.
It is hard. Anyone, anything, please come | :22:06. | :22:08.
forward, give us that little bit of information. If it is tiny and you | :22:09. | :22:12.
don't think it will help, anything will do to give us hope. | :22:13. | :22:16.
If you have seen him or heard anything, please let us know, it | :22:17. | :22:18.
would be brilliant to have him back. What do we know about what he may be | :22:19. | :22:28.
wearing? You will see some CCTV. Brian wears | :22:29. | :22:34.
a Beijing jacket. We have a picture of the jacket he | :22:35. | :22:38.
may have been wearing at the time he was last seen. | :22:39. | :22:41.
Some other items he was believed to have on him. A distinctive mobile | :22:42. | :22:46.
phone he was known to carry. And a watch like this he would have been | :22:47. | :22:50.
wearing at the time. You mentioned CCTV. He is a man of | :22:51. | :22:55.
routine, the same routine every day. What did he do? On weekends, he | :22:56. | :23:00.
would spend his time with his family. | :23:01. | :23:03.
Mondays, see his sister-in-law. Tuesdays, as you can see, the last | :23:04. | :23:09.
CCTV of him at Bluewater, he would spend the morning at the shopping | :23:10. | :23:12.
centre. Wednesdays, Bexley town centre. | :23:13. | :23:17.
He is wearing his beige coloured jacket, the one believed to be | :23:18. | :23:23.
wearing. His last known sighting, and that | :23:24. | :23:26.
was the day before. That was on the 22nd of September at | :23:27. | :23:31.
Bluewater. He was seen by a neighbour on the morning of the | :23:32. | :23:35.
23rd, going back into his house, he hasn't been seen since. | :23:36. | :23:40.
This is being taken seriously, there is a reward. | :23:41. | :23:46.
?10,000 for significant information leading to us finding Brian. | :23:47. | :23:50.
It is worth saying this is totally out of character for Brian, he has | :23:51. | :23:54.
never been missing before. He is fit and healthy, he walks with | :23:55. | :23:57.
a stick. Very out of character, we need | :23:58. | :23:58.
answers for the family. As you've seen Brian's family | :23:59. | :24:01.
are desperate for information. If you have seen Brian or come | :24:02. | :24:03.
across any of his personal items, the watch, mobile phone | :24:04. | :24:06.
or his jacket, then please I'm sure we all had our favourite | :24:07. | :24:08.
toys when we were kids. For Chris Lupton, his obsession was, | :24:09. | :24:16.
and still is, Star Wars memorabilia. He spent his whole life building | :24:17. | :24:19.
up a huge collection. Christopher Lupton has always loved | :24:20. | :24:35.
Star Wars. I loved it when Star Wars came out. | :24:36. | :24:42.
My dad took me to see all the Star Wars films. | :24:43. | :24:46.
He loves the films, Andy Love the toys. | :24:47. | :24:52.
When he bought me the big robot, even though I was only ten, I played | :24:53. | :24:56.
with it, then put it back in its box. That was probably an indication | :24:57. | :25:02.
I would start collecting things. Chris has been collecting ever | :25:03. | :25:06.
since. I really enjoyed collecting. Because | :25:07. | :25:11.
I could immerse myself in that world. I was there. I was a storm | :25:12. | :25:16.
trooper. In fact, I actually became a storm trooper later in life. | :25:17. | :25:22.
After 40 years, he built up quite a connection worth over ?30,000. | :25:23. | :25:26.
But someone else had found out about his hobby. | :25:27. | :25:33.
In April this year, Chris went away for a few days. | :25:34. | :25:37.
While he was gone, his home was broken into and he returned to find | :25:38. | :25:40.
much of his house had been turned upside down. | :25:41. | :25:46.
It was quite devastating. Boxes everywhere. It was just | :25:47. | :25:53.
trashed everywhere. One thing was obvious, they knew | :25:54. | :25:57.
exactly what they were looking for, and they knew where to look. | :25:58. | :26:02.
What the thieves had been looking for was his beloved Star Wars | :26:03. | :26:05.
collection which had been hidden in a secret cupboard behind a curtain. | :26:06. | :26:13.
It made me feel very emotional. It was a conversation of being shocked | :26:14. | :26:18.
and angry. No one burbles a house and find | :26:19. | :26:23.
these on spec. The value of the collection was | :26:24. | :26:31.
worth in excess of 35,000 two ?50,000, maybe even more. | :26:32. | :26:35.
Ed took a long time collecting these. | :26:36. | :26:39.
If I got the collection back, I'd feel as if I was holding. | :26:40. | :26:45.
Grzegorz Krychowiak I took. I do want to collect other people's toys, | :26:46. | :26:50.
these were my toys. -- I don't want to. | :26:51. | :26:51.
This collection clearly meant an awful lot to Chris. | :26:52. | :26:54.
These items were very distinctive, and were stored in a secret place. | :26:55. | :27:05.
These items were stored in a hidden cupboard someone would have known | :27:06. | :27:10.
about to gain access. We believe Mr Lupton was targeted. | :27:11. | :27:15.
What do we know about the people responsible? | :27:16. | :27:19.
Basically, we believe more than one person was involved due to the | :27:20. | :27:23.
amount of items taken. Possibly a vehicle used to take them away. | :27:24. | :27:29.
Although these are toys, this is a serious offence, these were worth a | :27:30. | :27:32.
lot of money. Mr Lupton has been collecting for a | :27:33. | :27:37.
number of years, since he was a child. | :27:38. | :27:40.
They are sentimental value to him. We want to find out about anyone | :27:41. | :27:45.
acting suspiciously in the area, suspicious vehicles, between Sunday | :27:46. | :27:50.
the 10th, and Tuesday the 19th of April. Any items that may have been | :27:51. | :27:54.
sold in person or online, anyone from the Star Wars committee who may | :27:55. | :27:59.
have heard of these items being sold all rested greens. We want to catch | :28:00. | :28:05.
the people responsible. These items mean a lot to Chris. | :28:06. | :28:08.
So, if you can help reunite Chris with his Star Wars | :28:09. | :28:10.
Back in April, it became compulsory for dog owners | :28:11. | :28:14.
Two months on, has the new law really made a difference? | :28:15. | :28:21.
I'm joined by dog wardens Kathryn Hubery and Steve Green, | :28:22. | :28:24.
who are based in Cardiff, and dogs Nilar and Jessie. | :28:25. | :28:28.
Welcome. Explain about why the law was brought into place and what | :28:29. | :28:38.
happens if the dog is not chipped? The main reason for the law is to | :28:39. | :28:42.
help reunite dogs faster with odours if they are lost, stolen, become | :28:43. | :28:49.
strays. That is the main reason, otherwise, if a dog is not | :28:50. | :28:54.
micro-chipped, the owner has 21 days notice to get the dogs chipped. It | :28:55. | :29:00.
is something they have to do now? It is the law. Steve, you will show how | :29:01. | :29:05.
the chip works. You have a dog with a chip. What happens? The microchip | :29:06. | :29:12.
is planted under spare skin around the shoulder blade. I have a pocket | :29:13. | :29:20.
scanner. Scanning that area and when it finds the chip... Hold it up to | :29:21. | :29:25.
the camera and we will try to zoom in. Tilting it slightly forward. | :29:26. | :29:31.
There are some numbers, which do not seem to make sense, but they are | :29:32. | :29:36.
numbers you need. A 15 digit number kept on a database and I will phone | :29:37. | :29:40.
to the database and give them the number and as long as the | :29:41. | :29:44.
information is up-to-date I should be able to repatriate the dog to its | :29:45. | :29:51.
owner. It is a simple thing. There is a needle, this puts the chip in, | :29:52. | :29:55.
between the shoulder blades. You click it and it is a tiny chip that | :29:56. | :30:00.
holds all the information. It is about the size of a grain of rice. | :30:01. | :30:06.
Even if they have a chip, it does not necessarily mean all is well | :30:07. | :30:09.
because information might be out of date. The chip is only as good as | :30:10. | :30:17.
the information on the database and so if you move home, get a new | :30:18. | :30:23.
mobile number, it you need to update it with the chip company which is as | :30:24. | :30:28.
simple as phoning up or going on the internet. You have an appeal for us | :30:29. | :30:34.
in a moment, but there is a rise in social media used to talk about | :30:35. | :30:38.
missing dogs, found pets. It is good but you want to be mindful about | :30:39. | :30:44.
that. Anything that gets the dog back with the owner faster is | :30:45. | :30:47.
positive but people need to bear in mind they have to legally informed | :30:48. | :30:53.
the dog warden service if they find a dog otherwise they could be in | :30:54. | :30:57.
trouble with theft by finding. These two dogs have been rescued and given | :30:58. | :31:05.
new homes, but you have some more which we have seen that have no | :31:06. | :31:11.
home. We have just over 30 at Cardiff dogs' home and we are either | :31:12. | :31:15.
looking for owners or they are looking for new homes to go to. | :31:16. | :31:22.
There is a lovely story with this dog, she looks gorgeous now but she | :31:23. | :31:25.
was in a totally different state when you got her. Yes, a mess, | :31:26. | :31:32.
matted, had probably been left outside. As you can see now... And | :31:33. | :31:41.
she has a new home to go to. Thanks. Around 30 dogs at the centre in | :31:42. | :31:45.
Cardiff that need a new home so if you think you can give them one the | :31:46. | :31:49.
details will be on the screen now. Michelle. | :31:50. | :31:51.
What would you do if someone was throwing stones at your window? | :31:52. | :31:55.
For one pensioner making the decision to confront the thug | :31:56. | :31:57.
outside his home is something he'll regret for the rest of his life. | :31:58. | :32:08.
Retirement has been the best time of my life. Just a quiet, leisurely | :32:09. | :32:17.
life. I get up when I want and go to sleep when I want and go where I | :32:18. | :32:24.
want. Where I live it has countryside within 100 yards in each | :32:25. | :32:28.
direction and it is quiet. Never had any problems. I was watching TV. | :32:29. | :32:44.
I heard stones hitting the window and went to the window, opened it a | :32:45. | :32:49.
little bit, and there was a bloke with a bicycle. I asked him what he | :32:50. | :32:55.
wanted. It was you. What are you talking about? He was ranting on I | :32:56. | :33:03.
had been grassing everybody up. I know it was you! It was ridiculous. | :33:04. | :33:13.
I told him to clear off. Brian decided to go downstairs and | :33:14. | :33:18.
confront the man. Who by now had crossed over the road. | :33:19. | :33:26.
He backed off and was motioning me to go across. Once Brian got close | :33:27. | :33:34.
to the man, he struck out. I went towards him. Then he pulled out an | :33:35. | :33:40.
iron bar and hit me over the head with it. He jumped back and pulled a | :33:41. | :33:49.
meat cleaver out and came at me. He went for me. I put my hand up to | :33:50. | :33:57.
stop him attacking my head and hitting with a torch. But it was not | :33:58. | :34:02.
enough. The meat cleaver sliced through | :34:03. | :34:07.
Brian's hand. I did not feel anything hardly, it was so sharp, it | :34:08. | :34:12.
was as sharp as a razor blade, it cut through everything. Leaving | :34:13. | :34:16.
Brian severely injured, the attacker fled on his mountain bike. The only | :34:17. | :34:23.
thing that went through my mind was survival. Holding pressure on it to | :34:24. | :34:36.
stop the bleeding. RADIO: Go ahead. I have been | :34:37. | :34:39.
attacked by a lunatic, he attacked me with a meat cleaver. | :34:40. | :34:45.
In surgery it took them 12 hours to fix everything up. It has been two | :34:46. | :34:52.
months since the operation and I only have very small movement in a | :34:53. | :34:59.
couple of fingers and the thumb, a little bit more movement but still | :35:00. | :35:04.
not enough to do anything with. Brian sustained a serious injury to | :35:05. | :35:08.
his left hand which was almost completely severed. This is a | :35:09. | :35:13.
dangerous person, who is prepared to use a dangerous weapon against an | :35:14. | :35:16.
old man in public, and it is vital we catch this person. | :35:17. | :35:22.
What he did has greatly impacted on my life. Dependent on others to do | :35:23. | :35:31.
anything. He definitely intended to kill me, there is no question about | :35:32. | :35:43.
it. He is a very nasty, evil person. This must have been a harrowing | :35:44. | :35:45.
ordeal for Brian. And he clearly still has a long and | :35:46. | :35:47.
hard recovery ahead. I'm joined by Detective | :35:48. | :35:50.
Inspector Stuart Hall. We have CCTV of the attacker. The | :35:51. | :35:58.
mail was riding a white mountain bike, which might of been a ladies' | :35:59. | :36:04.
style. He is described as white, stocky, bald, five foot ten, mid to | :36:05. | :36:09.
late 30s, and he may have had a moustache at the time. You have | :36:10. | :36:16.
recovered the meat cleaver? We believe so. Following the attack he | :36:17. | :36:22.
rode in the direction of Thorne and then to West Road and the meat | :36:23. | :36:26.
cleaver was found in a garden on the route taken by the mail and matches | :36:27. | :36:32.
a description given by Brian. You think the incident might have been | :36:33. | :36:35.
linked to previous incidents on the same street. Two months earlier | :36:36. | :36:39.
there was an incident with a stocky, bald-headed mail was captured on | :36:40. | :36:46.
CCTV will stop he was reportedly making threats to one of Brian's | :36:47. | :36:52.
neighbours. It may or may not be the same person, but I urge, if people | :36:53. | :36:57.
look at the images, and see if they can recognise anyone and if they do, | :36:58. | :37:01.
call. Ryan suffered extensive injuries. How is he doing? Brian | :37:02. | :37:07.
needed a lot of surgery. Luckily we saved his hand. He needs video | :37:08. | :37:14.
therapy, which is ongoing. It is a long road ahead for Brian. Thanks. | :37:15. | :37:15.
If you can name the man please get in touch on the usual numbers. | :37:16. | :37:26.
Or if you prefer you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. | :37:27. | :37:29.
Today's collection of Wanted Faces from around the country. | :37:30. | :37:33.
We start with Przemyslaw Piotr Milewski. | :37:34. | :37:36.
He was jailed for three-and-a-half years for robbery, threats to kill, | :37:37. | :37:40.
kidnap and fraud in Poland, and released early on licence. | :37:41. | :37:43.
But officials there now what him to return to serve | :37:44. | :37:45.
He's 30 years old, and has a number of scars including | :37:46. | :37:50.
He has several tattoos, including these two, | :37:51. | :37:53.
If you know where he is, don't approach him, just dial 999. | :37:54. | :38:02.
He was arrested in connection with the supply of class A drugs, | :38:03. | :38:07.
But he failed to return to officers, and is now on the run. | :38:08. | :38:11.
Osman is 26, and has links to Cardiff, the Netherlands, and to | :38:12. | :38:14.
This is James Boffey, although he also goes | :38:15. | :38:23.
He was jailed for five years and nine months in 2011 for his part | :38:24. | :38:30.
in a series of burglaries where families were confronted | :38:31. | :38:32.
He was released early from prison, but has failed to stick | :38:33. | :38:36.
to the conditions of his release, and is now wanted back in jail. | :38:37. | :38:40.
Boffey has a Liverpudlian accent, and a tribal tattoo | :38:41. | :38:42.
He also has links to Essex and Spain. | :38:43. | :38:50.
Finally, we have 35-year-old Matthew John Porter, | :38:51. | :38:52.
He was arrested by detectives in Nottinghamshire investigating | :38:53. | :38:58.
a robbery at a jewellers, where ?250,000 worth of jewellery | :38:59. | :39:00.
He was released on police bail, but has failed to return | :39:01. | :39:06.
Porter has numerous tattoos, including female figures, | :39:07. | :39:09.
He has friends and family in Lincolnshire and the West | :39:10. | :39:13.
Midlands, and speaks with a Midlands accent. | :39:14. | :39:19.
If you know where any of them are, you know what to do. | :39:20. | :39:22.
We have taken a look at a police helicopter, but we will now see | :39:23. | :39:33.
another airborne piece of kit that has been helpful to officers on the | :39:34. | :39:43.
ground. It is the West Yorkshire Police drone. For safety reasons it | :39:44. | :39:49.
cannot be used close to helicopters. How do pilots trained to use these? | :39:50. | :39:59.
It is an intensive course. They must pass assessments during the process | :40:00. | :40:03.
and subject that they go on a four-day course which culminates in | :40:04. | :40:08.
a written exam, which you can understand they love! Followed by a | :40:09. | :40:12.
practical flying assessment and every aspect of the course is pass | :40:13. | :40:16.
or fail and it is only when they have passed every component they are | :40:17. | :40:20.
qualified by the Civil Aviation Authority. It is thorough. What are | :40:21. | :40:27.
they useful? The main function is saving life. When we have people who | :40:28. | :40:33.
have gone missing, are vulnerable, in large open areas, we will use the | :40:34. | :40:38.
device to eliminate parts of the search area, so we can focus on | :40:39. | :40:44.
undergrowth, woodlands, ditches, watercourses, where we feel the | :40:45. | :40:49.
person might be. It speeds up the search process and gives us a better | :40:50. | :40:53.
opportunity of finding people alive. They have been used with recent | :40:54. | :40:58.
flooding and investigating road accidents. Around Christmas time, | :40:59. | :41:02.
Boxing Day we had terrible floods in West Yorkshire and we used the drone | :41:03. | :41:08.
to assess the extent of flooding, but also where people were to be | :41:09. | :41:14.
rescued, what infrastructure was at risk, so we could prioritise rescues | :41:15. | :41:19.
and deployments. The drone unit is expanding? It is, because of the | :41:20. | :41:25.
creativity of officers. You mentioned road collisions. Not | :41:26. | :41:29.
anything of my doing, but the officers investigating a serious | :41:30. | :41:35.
road accident used it to recreate a driver's route, to recreate the | :41:36. | :41:39.
driver's eye view of the route prior to and during the condition, so we | :41:40. | :41:43.
could see what the driver would have seen, could have seen. These will be | :41:44. | :42:00.
rolled out soon. A lot of you are still calling in about the shocking | :42:01. | :42:05.
murder of pensioner Tommy Ward in his home in Rotherham and police are | :42:06. | :42:09.
chasing the Leeds as a result of your information. Many of you | :42:10. | :42:14.
calling in with offers of help for victims of the arson of pigeon | :42:15. | :42:18.
lofts, but police need more information on who started the | :42:19. | :42:26.
blaze. Please get in touch, it really makes a difference. Michelle, | :42:27. | :42:27.
where will you be tomorrow? Well, we've seen today how | :42:28. | :42:29.
useful drones can be This drone footage shows | :42:30. | :42:31.
the impact of fly-tipping and the effect it has | :42:32. | :42:41.
on our environment. And, tomorrow, we're going to be | :42:42. | :42:43.
looking at how authorities are going after the fly-tippers, | :42:44. | :42:45.
tracking down those who dump For more details about the crimes | :42:46. | :42:49.
on today's programme, Before we go, here's another look | :42:50. | :42:59.
at this morning's Wanted Faces. If any of them look familiar, | :43:00. | :43:03.
