We're on the road once again with police, as they bring | :00:00. | :00:08.
who have ruined the retirement plans of 89-year-old Eric. | :00:09. | :00:15.
The first thing I noticed was the gate was unlocked. | :00:16. | :00:18.
I felt the fear then, I thought something is terribly wrong here. | :00:19. | :00:22.
The graffiti-busting cleaners sprucing up the streets of Bristol. | :00:23. | :00:33.
We get racist, offensive graffiti, so we tried to remove it before the | :00:34. | :00:36.
public can see any of it. And it's a hot and sunny day | :00:37. | :00:38.
down in Bristol harbour. But a dip would still | :00:39. | :00:40.
be a very bad idea. when people who've had too many | :00:41. | :00:43.
end up in the drink. Live for the next 45 minutes, | :00:44. | :00:48.
this is Crimewatch Roadshow. Hello and welcome to | :00:49. | :01:14.
Crimewatch Roadshow. to solve the crimes | :01:15. | :01:16.
happening where you live. why police reckon they're up to | :01:17. | :01:23.
no good - burgling rural homes. I couldn't believe | :01:24. | :01:31.
the glass all over the floor, it was such a shock when you have | :01:32. | :01:34.
lived here a long while, and you don't expect anything | :01:35. | :01:37.
like that to happen. limbering up | :01:38. | :01:39.
for a charity cycling marathon. This morning, | :01:40. | :01:47.
the team's moved to Bristol, and the Baltic Wharf | :01:48. | :01:49.
near the city centre. I can't complain, Rav, | :01:50. | :01:52.
it's a lovely part of the world. Home to the SS Great Britain, | :01:53. | :01:58.
Brunel's original steam ship. Today I'll be out on the water | :01:59. | :02:01.
with the Fire Service and I'm going to set | :02:02. | :02:07.
these divers a challenge - There it goes! | :02:08. | :02:18.
See how they get on in a bit. Bur first, can you help catch | :02:19. | :02:24.
the thieves who burgled Worst of all, they stole | :02:25. | :02:28.
a very rare item that he hoped would | :02:29. | :02:35.
help fund his retirement. In the centre of Bath, this | :02:36. | :02:47.
weathered shop front will always hold special memories for | :02:48. | :02:52.
89-year-old antique dealer Eric. We have run an antique shop in Bath for | :02:53. | :02:58.
50 years. I've dealt with dealers from all over the world, America, | :02:59. | :03:03.
Australia, they all used to come to my shop. But after a lifetime in the | :03:04. | :03:09.
trade, in May this year, Eric decided it was finally time to close | :03:10. | :03:15.
the business and retire. Oh, I was very emotional, yes, I thought, I am | :03:16. | :03:19.
going to miss a lot of people coming in, you know, and I felt, well, at | :03:20. | :03:25.
the end of the day, I am in my 80s, I have got to decide what I am going | :03:26. | :03:30.
to do with the rest of my life, you know? Eric had held onto some | :03:31. | :03:32.
valuable items for his shop which he plans to sell if he became short of | :03:33. | :03:39.
money. I never had a pension plan, you know? All I have got is | :03:40. | :03:44.
antiques. I can sell it as I go along. On the daily closed the shop | :03:45. | :03:52.
for the final time, Eric moved his precious antiques collection into | :03:53. | :03:55.
storage in an old chapel he owns five outside Bath. I would rather | :03:56. | :04:06.
look at the antiques, money doesn't give me any pleasure, it is just | :04:07. | :04:11.
paper, isn't it? I felt quite confident it was in a safe place. | :04:12. | :04:20.
Unfortunately for Eric, thieves had other ideas. Some time between 5pm | :04:21. | :04:28.
on the 7th of May and 11am on the 9th of May, the chapel was broken | :04:29. | :04:30.
into. The chapel doors were reinforced, | :04:31. | :04:43.
but the thieves came prepared - with heavy duty tools. CCTV footage | :04:44. | :04:51.
captured people moving around inside the building. Once inside, they | :04:52. | :04:59.
helped themselves to dozens of smaller antiques. They also took | :05:00. | :05:08.
Eric's favourite, and most unusual item, an 18th century bronze wishing | :05:09. | :05:11.
well, which he believes is worth up to ?500,000. The wishing well was my | :05:12. | :05:21.
height, about five foot four. It was huge. There may be two in the world, | :05:22. | :05:30.
but I don't think there would be any more than that. People that have | :05:31. | :05:36.
seen it said, I can't believe I'm looking at it. It was such an | :05:37. | :05:45.
impressive piece. In just 20 minutes, the collection, which had | :05:46. | :05:48.
taken Eric a lifetime to build, was gone. | :05:49. | :06:05.
The first thing I noticed was the date was unlocked, I felt the fear | :06:06. | :06:14.
then, I thought, something is terribly wrong. I didn't want to | :06:15. | :06:19.
look, I walked in, and then I saw it, you know, this gone, that gone, | :06:20. | :06:23.
everything gone, gutted. That is how I felt. | :06:24. | :06:29.
To steal the retirement fund of an 89-year-old man on the day that he | :06:30. | :06:37.
retires is truly appalling. We believe it has been planned, because | :06:38. | :06:42.
he was moving some very expensive, substantial pieces of artwork to a | :06:43. | :06:51.
storage facility. Why is the burglary has had a devastating | :06:52. | :06:56.
impact on Eric. Every day I wake up, I think all the years I have been in | :06:57. | :07:01.
business, it is all gone. What have I done to deserve this? You never | :07:02. | :07:05.
forget it, it is on your mind all the time. 24 hours a day, you cannot | :07:06. | :07:09.
relax from it. And you feel, why me? Now, since that burglary, | :07:10. | :07:17.
he's tightened up his security, but sadly, many of the antiques | :07:18. | :07:22.
stolen were irreplaceable. Detective Sergeant | :07:23. | :07:25.
Laura Miller joins me now. Some of these items | :07:26. | :07:27.
were bulky and very heavy. They must have been really hard | :07:28. | :07:30.
for the thieves to move. Yes, around 30 bronze sculptures, | :07:31. | :07:35.
paintings, antique clocks. One particular item, | :07:36. | :07:40.
the five foot bronze wishing well, so the offenders would have had | :07:41. | :07:42.
a large vehicle with them. There was CCTV in the chapel, there | :07:43. | :08:03.
were at least two, but we believe four people were involved in the | :08:04. | :08:08.
theft. What information you looking for? These are unique pieces, | :08:09. | :08:12.
especially the wishing well. We want to know how it is being stored, | :08:13. | :08:16.
whether it has been sold, if you have that information, we would like | :08:17. | :08:21.
to know. And because they are such unique items, someone must know | :08:22. | :08:27.
where they are. It is one-of-a-kind, it is very dear to Eric, we would | :08:28. | :08:31.
like to know where it is. We are are looking for 2-4 men with a van or a | :08:32. | :08:37.
chat, possibly with a lifting mechanism in the Bath area. | :08:38. | :08:40.
Call us if you know anything about Eric's stolen antiques. | :08:41. | :08:43.
Hopefully, we'll get some answers today. | :08:44. | :08:48.
It is a little too late at night for these two to be getting inked up at | :08:49. | :09:04.
this tattoo parlour in Winterbourne. So what are they up to? While the | :09:05. | :09:09.
woman is hanging around outside, she gives us a good look at her face. | :09:10. | :09:14.
The man eventually comes back over with something in his hands and put | :09:15. | :09:18.
it through the door. Suddenly, the parlour is up in flames. But this | :09:19. | :09:25.
arsonist doesn't get away scot-free. He set himself alight too. Luckily, | :09:26. | :09:29.
the fire didn't take hold, especially as there was a mum and | :09:30. | :09:33.
baby in the flat above the shop. They weren't injured, but the | :09:34. | :09:37.
property did suffer considerable smoke damage. Do you know who they | :09:38. | :09:42.
might be? Did you see anyone in the area with burn injuries around that | :09:43. | :09:44.
time? If so, you know what to do. Here you can see a burglar lurking | :09:45. | :09:56.
about in the early hours of the morning, but strangely he doesn't | :09:57. | :10:02.
take anything from the property - on this occasion. Incredibly, almost a | :10:03. | :10:05.
year later, police believe they called him on camera again, but in | :10:06. | :10:11.
someone else's home. He is scoping out this place but still doesn't | :10:12. | :10:15.
steal anything. He does take some time to tamper with the door, | :10:16. | :10:19.
though. Police believe his method is to break-in and recce what he wants, | :10:20. | :10:23.
interfere with locks, doors and windows so next time he can gain | :10:24. | :10:28.
easy access. If you recognise his face, then we need to hear from you. | :10:29. | :10:32.
If you can name anyone you've just seen, | :10:33. | :10:34.
It's free, and the number is 08000 468999. | :10:35. | :10:37.

I'm on the water in Bristol Harbour with Avon Fire and Rescue Service. | :10:54. | :10:56.
Good morning, we are on the water this morning, and we have been | :10:57. | :11:05.
called to a person who has off a boat into the water. It happens | :11:06. | :11:09.
quite regularly in Bristol, we have got such a big harbour-side, and | :11:10. | :11:13.
lots of people come to visit, and it does happen on a regular basis. May | :11:14. | :11:18.
be people who have had too much to drink? On a day like today, people | :11:19. | :11:22.
who might want to go for a swim, but it happens in the evenings when | :11:23. | :11:29.
people have had a drink. Your job is to rescue them, someone is in the | :11:30. | :11:32.
water, talk me through what is happening. We have identified | :11:33. | :11:37.
someone in the water, the boat is launched. We have several methods, | :11:38. | :11:42.
we can throw a rope, talk to the casualty, in this instance we are | :11:43. | :11:46.
going to use the boat, because it is a lot quicker. So as we are | :11:47. | :11:52.
approaching, we slow down, start talking to the casualty, get them to | :11:53. | :11:56.
help themselves to help us gets them into the boat. It is a lovely summer | :11:57. | :12:01.
day, what is the temperature like there? Surface temperature is 19, | :12:02. | :12:07.
which is still quite cold, but below that is very cold, ten or 11 | :12:08. | :12:13.
degrees, so if you fall in the water, you cannot swim properly, it | :12:14. | :12:17.
is difficult for your body to react to that. So dealing with cardiac | :12:18. | :12:22.
problems and forced intake of water. If your body hits cold water, you | :12:23. | :12:27.
might have a cardiac event. Also, a sharp intake of air, you could | :12:28. | :12:32.
swallow a lot of water. The rescue is taking place, we are approaching | :12:33. | :12:37.
the man in trouble. They are talking to him, he can hold self in the | :12:38. | :12:41.
water and help us out. Telling him what to do, hold onto the boat, we | :12:42. | :12:46.
will encourage him to hold onto the front and then we can pull him on. | :12:47. | :12:53.
And that is called scoop? Yes, it makes life easier to pull the | :12:54. | :12:58.
casualty on. Thankfully, a successful rescue this time, what | :12:59. | :13:01.
advice would you have for people watching at home? If you are walking | :13:02. | :13:06.
home from bars and clubs at night, walk with other people, body up, so | :13:07. | :13:11.
if you get into trouble, you have got someone to help you. If someone | :13:12. | :13:16.
goes in the water, dial 999 and ask for the Fire Service, give your | :13:17. | :13:20.
location. Encourage the person to help themselves, to swim to safety | :13:21. | :13:25.
and hold on. Thank you very much. In a few minutes, we will find out how | :13:26. | :13:29.
the police divers are getting on finding the replica gun I threw in | :13:30. | :13:31.
the water. Rav. Thanks, Tina - | :13:32. | :13:33.
looking forward to that. Right, lots more to come this | :13:34. | :13:36.
morning, including... The city which boasts amazing art | :13:37. | :13:38.
and grotty graffiti. Now police in Bristol are getting | :13:39. | :13:41.
tough on the taggers. Over the last 18 months, | :13:42. | :13:43.
the graffiti unit has prosecuted 42 offenders, | :13:44. | :13:47.
and three have gone to prison. And the Kent micropub targeted | :13:48. | :13:50.
by thieves not once but twice. where they came | :13:51. | :13:55.
through on the glass. are wheeling their way | :13:56. | :14:03.
into studio this morning. These are all serving officers | :14:04. | :14:11.
with South Wales Police, and they're training for a big bike | :14:12. | :14:13.
marathon later this month. I'm also joined by Lilian Smith, | :14:14. | :14:16.
who's involved in the event, Lilian, I'll chat to | :14:17. | :14:19.
you in just a moment. But first, Deputy Chief | :14:20. | :14:23.
Constable Matt Jukes, Were going to be doing the police | :14:24. | :14:37.
Unity Ride for a fantastic charity, Care of Police Survivors, who look | :14:38. | :14:39.
after the families of officers who have died on duty. 50 of us from | :14:40. | :14:46.
Wales, we will be riding 200 miles and arriving at a national memorial | :14:47. | :14:51.
service. How is training going? OK, could always be better! There is a | :14:52. | :14:57.
memorial service at the end of the ride. This is last year. Lovely | :14:58. | :15:02.
pictures. It is a really emotional moment for everybody. At the service | :15:03. | :15:08.
of surviving families and they present the riders with medals. It | :15:09. | :15:12.
is moving for everybody, there are 250 people from all over the UK | :15:13. | :15:18.
taking part now. Talk me through the bracelet as well, very emotional | :15:19. | :15:22.
attachment to that. It is. Every rider wears a bracelet to remember | :15:23. | :15:26.
an officer who died on duty. Last year I wore this bracelet which | :15:27. | :15:33.
remembers Trevor Smith who sadly Lillian lost. Sadly killed on duty | :15:34. | :15:42.
in a road traffic accident. Must have been very difficult for you. It | :15:43. | :15:48.
was because I had a 15-year-old son who had lost a father and 15 is not | :15:49. | :15:53.
a very nice age to be left without a father. But we just got on with life | :15:54. | :15:57.
because there was no Cops in those days. This is a picture of Trevor in | :15:58. | :16:05.
his uniform. A very proud man. You must have been very proud of him. | :16:06. | :16:12.
Yes. It must've been hard without a charity like Cops. Did you find that | :16:13. | :16:17.
particularly difficult? It was very lonely. Are they helping you now? | :16:18. | :16:24.
Yes I was so pleased to find them. Christine from Cops got in touch. | :16:25. | :16:30.
She found out I was widowed from the police roll of honour and we have | :16:31. | :16:33.
been in touch over the years. Nice to know there is someone you can | :16:34. | :16:39.
speak to. You're not alone. Find you, you have not noticed this, | :16:40. | :16:43.
Lillian, he has a surprise for you. We know you love to go to the | :16:44. | :16:47.
memorial services to remember Trevor and you couldn't make it last year | :16:48. | :16:51.
so here is a picture of us remembering Trevor, the memorial | :16:52. | :16:58.
tree. Wales. His service insignia there and something to remind you | :16:59. | :17:02.
you are not forgotten and he is not forgotten. Very nice. Thank you. We | :17:03. | :17:07.
know you could not make it last year so they brought it to you. Lovely. | :17:08. | :17:15.
Thank you. Any tips for the guys? I wish them all the best. That is from | :17:16. | :17:20.
me as well. Good luck. Lovely gesture. Back to you, Tina. | :17:21. | :17:26.
Now, this part of Bristol around the harbour is certainly | :17:27. | :17:28.
very picturesque on a summer morning like this. | :17:29. | :17:30.
But just up the road, parts of the city centre | :17:31. | :17:32.
The city of Bristol is world-famous for its street art. Mysterious | :17:33. | :17:43.
artist Banksy made his name here and others have followed his lead, | :17:44. | :17:47.
creating hundreds of elaborate paintings. For locals and visitors, | :17:48. | :17:52.
it is certainly a talking point. It adds colour and uniqueness. It | :17:53. | :17:58.
definitely brings out the vibrancy. A good thing. I think it should | :17:59. | :18:05.
continue. Graffiti is a massive benefit socially and financially the | :18:06. | :18:14.
rundown areas. People want to come in droves, tourists, coming in packs | :18:15. | :18:18.
to take photos of the art. But not all graffiti is so popular. Initials | :18:19. | :18:24.
and logos, known as tags, are sprayed on thousands of walls across | :18:25. | :18:31.
the city, including people's homes. Tagging, I disagree with it | :18:32. | :18:36.
entirely. It is just scribbles. I get a lot of it on my properties and | :18:37. | :18:47.
I am ever more painting over it. Tackling the tags is also a | :18:48. | :18:50.
full-time job for Bristol's clean-up team. It is early morning and Mark | :18:51. | :18:56.
is heading to the city's temple meets train station. We get a number | :18:57. | :19:02.
of things happening in the night. We get racist offensive graffiti. We | :19:03. | :19:06.
try and remove it before the public can see it. This morning, Mark has | :19:07. | :19:11.
spotted some new tags at the front entrance of the station. This sign | :19:12. | :19:16.
is a group of lads in Bristol, they all write this kind of thing just to | :19:17. | :19:21.
show the group has been in that area and also to let the other crew know | :19:22. | :19:26.
they have been here and on the wall. There are 100 active taggers in | :19:27. | :19:34.
Bristol and it costs a lot to clean up the graffiti. Ten, 20 minutes to | :19:35. | :19:42.
complete. It took that tagger or artist ten seconds max. Some taggers | :19:43. | :19:49.
enjoy the challenge of making the marks in hard to reach places, | :19:50. | :19:53.
sometimes with tragic consequences. This is quite a sad story. This type | :19:54. | :20:06.
is a guy called Buzz and he is prolific and he was on a bridge and | :20:07. | :20:12.
he tragically fell off. He paid the ultimate price and file of the | :20:13. | :20:16.
building he was tagging and died. It is a persistent problem and police | :20:17. | :20:20.
are now trying new ways to get tough on illegal with the T. Fixed penalty | :20:21. | :20:26.
notices is the way we used to go until we began to realise the sheer | :20:27. | :20:31.
volume of the damage. We take photographs of all of the damage and | :20:32. | :20:36.
we start in the centre of the city and we go out, like a dart board and | :20:37. | :20:40.
cover the whole city and photograph everything. The photos can be used | :20:41. | :20:47.
to map a tagger's movements and help convict serial offenders. Over the | :20:48. | :20:51.
last 18 months, the unit has prosecuted 42 offenders, three have | :20:52. | :20:59.
gone to prison. For the mayor of Bristol, striking a balance between | :21:00. | :21:02.
tagging and art presents a challenge. While we want to | :21:03. | :21:10.
celebrate our street art and our graffiti artists, what we also have | :21:11. | :21:14.
to do is take care of what we might call vandalism which comes across as | :21:15. | :21:21.
tagging. The May has teamed up with the graffiti artists to try a new | :21:22. | :21:26.
approach. Over the next few months, 15 walls will be set up across the | :21:27. | :21:31.
city where artists can express themselves freely. We have got the | :21:32. | :21:34.
walls around the city where people can go and do graffiti without fear | :21:35. | :21:39.
of prosecution. We are encouraging it to happen here. It will be really | :21:40. | :21:47.
interesting to see how that pans out. | :21:48. | :21:48.
Well, here at Bristol's harbourside, I'm with Avon | :21:49. | :21:50.
and Somerset Police's underwater search team. | :21:51. | :21:52.
Earlier, I threw a replica firearm into the water | :21:53. | :21:54.
Sergeant Nick Evans from the dive team joins me. | :21:55. | :21:58.
Nick, talk me through what everyone's doing here on your team? | :21:59. | :22:01.
At the moment we have got a diver in the water with the handler looking | :22:02. | :22:08.
after him with a line constantly attached to him, delivering air. We | :22:09. | :22:14.
have a stand-by diver here. If the diver in the water gets in trouble, | :22:15. | :22:19.
we deploy the stand-by diver. I am in charge of communications and | :22:20. | :22:23.
delivering the air to the diver in the water. How do you know how it is | :22:24. | :22:28.
going? We communicate on this, from surface to the water. Can I talk to | :22:29. | :22:35.
the diver? Certainly. If you say panel to diver. Panel to diver. How | :22:36. | :22:45.
are things going? How is the visibility? How are things going? | :22:46. | :22:54.
Visibility is no. Nil visibility. Negative as yet. Continuing with the | :22:55. | :23:00.
search. Visibility, sounds like it is really bad. Understood. | :23:01. | :23:08.
Understood. You can never see anything down there, diver's worst | :23:09. | :23:13.
nightmare. Pretty treacherous. You can never see anything, shopping | :23:14. | :23:17.
trolleys in there, worst nightmare to get caught up in that. Can we ask | :23:18. | :23:24.
him if he has found the gun? Have you found the gun yet? No, negative, | :23:25. | :23:33.
nothing yet. Understood. How long do you think it will take them? It can | :23:34. | :23:40.
take two minutes, two hours, there is no visibility, done by touch. | :23:41. | :23:45.
Hopefully they find it by the end of the programme. Rav, they are still | :23:46. | :23:48.
searching. Thanks, Tina. | :23:49. | :23:53.
Now it's time for a look at today's Wanted Faces. | :23:54. | :23:56.
Detectives would like to speak to him about the murder of a man | :23:57. | :24:00.
who was repeatedly stabbed near Chelmsley Wood | :24:01. | :24:02.
Chase has links to this area and also to Shard End in Birmingham. | :24:03. | :24:06.
The 20-year-old also has numerous different hairstyles, | :24:07. | :24:08.
He's 5ft 6 and described as dangerous, so if you know | :24:09. | :24:11.
This is Jabar Ababakr, although he also calls himself | :24:12. | :24:21.
He was arrested in connection with a rape allegation | :24:22. | :24:24.
and released on police bail, but has failed to return | :24:25. | :24:27.
Originally from Iraq, the 32-year-old now has links | :24:28. | :24:30.
He was arrested in connection with a robbery in Southwark | :24:31. | :24:34.
in London, in which a car was taken, and also an incident when the same | :24:35. | :24:38.
He was also granted bail but has not returned to police. | :24:39. | :24:42.
Giddings is 31 and has links to Lewisham in South East London. | :24:43. | :24:45.
And finally today, this is 36-year-old Matthew John Porter. | :24:46. | :24:48.
He was arrested by detectives investigating a robbery | :24:49. | :24:50.
at a jeweller's where ?250,000 worth of jewellery and watches were taken. | :24:51. | :24:54.
Again, he was given bail but hasn't been seen since. | :24:55. | :24:57.
Porter has numerous tattoos, including female figures | :24:58. | :24:59.
He has links to Lincolnshire and the West Midlands. | :25:00. | :25:08.
If you know where any of these faces are, make sure you get in touch | :25:09. | :25:11.
Next, to a particularly vicious assault which happened | :25:12. | :25:15.
A 29-year-old father of two was on an evening out with his wife | :25:16. | :25:23.
when a man attacked him, leaving him with life-changing injuries. | :25:24. | :25:25.
Detective Sergeant Jon Williams from Gloucestershire Constabulary | :25:26. | :25:27.
Liam Hopson suffered a serious head injury which has left him with life | :25:28. | :25:42.
changing injuries. He is currently living at home with his mother | :25:43. | :25:47.
receiving care. We can see a map of where the attack happened. He had | :25:48. | :25:49.
been enjoying himself with friends. At Moo Moo's nightclub, | :25:50. | :26:00.
on Regent Street, in Cheltenham, They left the nightclub | :26:01. | :26:02.
around 3.30am and were walking along Rodney Road, | :26:03. | :26:05.
where a male suspect, who was with three other males, | :26:06. | :26:08.
made offensive remarks about Liam's wife, causing some heated | :26:09. | :26:10.
words between them. Both groups moved on and went | :26:11. | :26:12.
their separate ways. Further along Rodney Road, | :26:13. | :26:14.
near to the junction of the A46, the suspect reappeared and shouted | :26:15. | :26:17.
some more abuse. Liam shouted back, the suspect | :26:18. | :26:19.
walked towards him and punched him once, causing him | :26:20. | :26:21.
to fall to the floor. The suspect then walked | :26:22. | :26:23.
off and disappeared Liam was taken to hospital | :26:24. | :26:27.
where it was confirmed We can see some CCTV footage | :26:28. | :26:30.
of a man you want to speak Yes, CCTV footage | :26:31. | :26:35.
shows the man leaving This is the mail we believe to be | :26:36. | :26:38.
the offender. If anyone recognises this man, | :26:39. | :26:47.
please get in contact. There are also a number of other | :26:48. | :26:49.
people you want to speak Yes, we are keen to speak to these | :26:50. | :26:52.
three men who appear They are seen leaving with him, | :26:53. | :26:56.
heading down Rodney Road. These men are key are to helping | :26:57. | :26:59.
with our investigation. Let us hope someone can help. The | :27:00. | :27:05.
numbers will be on the screen throughout the programme. Rav. | :27:06. | :27:10.
If you have any idea who that man seen on CCTV in Cheltenham is, | :27:11. | :27:15.
Now, burglars usually want to make a quick getaway | :27:16. | :27:23.
But some prefer to let the train take the strain. | :27:24. | :27:28.
The rural county of Somerset has many peaceful hamlets and quiet | :27:29. | :27:40.
villages. One of them is Templecombe. It is a small village, | :27:41. | :27:45.
the hairdressers, the church, school, and the main asset is the | :27:46. | :27:50.
railway station. It is fairly quiet on the whole. But one Saturday | :27:51. | :27:57.
morning back in April, the picturesque village had some very | :27:58. | :28:02.
unwelcome visitors. Glass everywhere. Draws were open and the | :28:03. | :28:09.
jewellery taken. It is such a shock when you have lived here a long | :28:10. | :28:13.
while and you do not expect anything like that to happen. Mavis has lived | :28:14. | :28:26.
in Templecombe for 30 years. That day, she had arranged to go on a | :28:27. | :28:30.
shopping trip with a friend. Rita and I had agreed to go up to the | :28:31. | :28:33.
market together. We were looking forward to a nice day in the morning | :28:34. | :28:39.
seeing friends, chatting, having coffee. They headed off together, | :28:40. | :28:53.
leaving Mavis's house empty. In the early afternoon, these two men | :28:54. | :28:55.
arrived at Templecombe by train. CCTV captures one of the men walking | :28:56. | :29:16.
towards Mavis's house. He crept into her back garden. Police believe he | :29:17. | :29:25.
then smashed a French door. And then crawled into Mavis's home. Draws | :29:26. | :29:33.
were ransacked and jewellery stretched Murray snatched from | :29:34. | :29:38.
Mavis's bedroom and a laptop containing precious photos was | :29:39. | :29:45.
stolen -- and jewellery snatched. Mavis returned from the market | :29:46. | :29:51.
unaware of what had happened. We had a really nice time, the end of a | :29:52. | :29:56.
good day. I walked into the lounge and looked around and I couldn't | :29:57. | :30:00.
believe the glass all over the floor. | :30:01. | :30:04.
My clothes were pulled out of the drawers, and the things out of the | :30:05. | :30:11.
wardrobe, obviously looking to see if I had hidden anything. They had | :30:12. | :30:15.
taken my laptop, which had all my photos. And I was absolutely | :30:16. | :30:22.
shocked, really. And I phoned reader straightaway and said, I've been | :30:23. | :30:28.
burgled. The jewellery were things that came from my grandmother, my | :30:29. | :30:34.
mother, my sister, gifts - for example, a silver locket that had a | :30:35. | :30:40.
photo of my grandmother on one side, my mother the other. You can't ever | :30:41. | :30:44.
replace those. It's upsetting, very upsetting. After the burglary, CCTV | :30:45. | :30:53.
captures the two men together, getting on a train back to London. | :30:54. | :30:59.
This burglary is unusual. The offenders arrived by train, and they | :31:00. | :31:04.
left by train. This is the first time that I've come across burglars | :31:05. | :31:09.
in this part of Somerset using the rail network to commit crime. Police | :31:10. | :31:14.
believe the same men carried out a similar burglary near another rural | :31:15. | :31:19.
train station earlier that day. These two men, we believe, have come | :31:20. | :31:24.
from London, and then they've targeted rural villages. They've | :31:25. | :31:28.
been getting off the train, scoping these villages and towns, finding | :31:29. | :31:32.
empty properties, forcing entry, stealing items. I think people | :31:33. | :31:42.
should be more aware of how they hurt other people. It just seems | :31:43. | :31:44.
completely wrong. Jim, this seems quite unusual, | :31:45. | :31:49.
to use the rail network to carry out Yes, that is correct, I've | :31:50. | :32:02.
investigated a number of burglaries over the years - this is the first | :32:03. | :32:05.
incident of this kind I've come across. You believe the two men in | :32:06. | :32:10.
the film had carried out a burglary earlier that day. Yes, they got off | :32:11. | :32:16.
the train, broke into a property, stole items, before travelling to | :32:17. | :32:22.
Templecombe, where one broke into Mavis's house. The CCTV is quite | :32:23. | :32:27.
clear, how would you describe them? The two men are of Mediterranean | :32:28. | :32:32.
appearance, late 20s, early 30s, one appears to be slimmer than the | :32:33. | :32:36.
other, both have dark hair. And you believe they are from outside the | :32:37. | :32:42.
area. That's right, they boarded a train at Basingstoke and travelled | :32:43. | :32:45.
to Templecombe. We know they travelled back on the train, getting | :32:46. | :32:50.
off at Clapham Junction. And the items stolen from Mavis really do | :32:51. | :32:54.
mean a lot to, they are irreplaceable. They are, she had a | :32:55. | :33:00.
laptop stolen, a significant amount of jewellery stolen, and she would | :33:01. | :33:01.
be keen to get those items back. If you have any information on these | :33:02. | :33:05.
two men, get in touch now. And remember, victims of any crime | :33:06. | :33:10.
can also call Victim Support. This time, one who prefers to strike | :33:11. | :33:12.
under cover of darkness. Heerenveen, a seaside town with an | :33:13. | :33:34.
historic pier and a promenade dating back to Victorian times, but more | :33:35. | :33:37.
recently it has become famous for something else, the birthplace of | :33:38. | :33:43.
the micropub. They micropub is just one room, basically, so it can be a | :33:44. | :33:54.
small shop, this one was a pet shop. Micropubs our community pubs, it is | :33:55. | :33:57.
all about the conversation and nothing else to interfere with that. | :33:58. | :34:04.
For the past few years, Gary and Gavin have run the pub together. It | :34:05. | :34:10.
is just two of us, all the customers know it is me and Gary. There is a | :34:11. | :34:17.
lot of Mickey taking. I wouldn't want to suggest I do more, but he is | :34:18. | :34:23.
quite slow! It is about half and half. We do have rules, we don't | :34:24. | :34:29.
have mobile phones, we don't have electronic cigarettes. We have a | :34:30. | :34:34.
system where it is a ?1 fine if anybody's phone goes off. Most | :34:35. | :34:40.
people have no objections to putting a pound in the charity box. For the | :34:41. | :34:46.
two friends, business was going well, but success attracted and | :34:47. | :34:51.
welcome attention. On the night of the 16th of February, Gavin blocked | :34:52. | :34:55.
up as normal, but during the early hours, the pub had an unwanted | :34:56. | :34:57.
visitor. The following morning, Gavin went to | :34:58. | :35:16.
open up. As soon as I arrived, I saw a hole where they came through on | :35:17. | :35:21.
the glass. The burglar had emptied the till and taken around ?250. We | :35:22. | :35:27.
thought, don't worry, we've got CCTV. As well as the money, the | :35:28. | :35:37.
burglar had also stolen the CCTV. So we knew there was no way we would | :35:38. | :35:41.
going to catch them, lack of evidence. It is terrible, it is just | :35:42. | :35:49.
an invasion. It was pretty devastating, to be honest. With the | :35:50. | :35:55.
CCTV footage gone, all Gary and Gavin could do was repaired the | :35:56. | :35:57.
damage and carry on with business as usual. But less than two months | :35:58. | :36:07.
later, they were targeted again. I turned up, and there it was, the | :36:08. | :36:12.
whole, I could see another hole, but this time on another window. What | :36:13. | :36:19.
the burglar didn't know was that Gary and given had since gone to | :36:20. | :36:24.
town and ramped up their new CCTV. Now every angle was covered, there | :36:25. | :36:30.
was nowhere for the beef to hide. Bingo, we got him. Breaking into the | :36:31. | :36:35.
front window, he could be seen rummaging around looking for loot. | :36:36. | :36:41.
And wanting to have his cake and eat it, he stops to have a munch on some | :36:42. | :36:48.
leftover birthday treats on the bar. But not satisfied, this greedy | :36:49. | :36:51.
burglar did the unthinkable - and swiped the charity box. | :36:52. | :36:58.
You just don't expect someone to steal from a charity. The money that | :36:59. | :37:07.
is collected is for disabled children and adults. I just don't | :37:08. | :37:11.
understand why they should just go for a charity. That is the lowest of | :37:12. | :37:20.
the low. This is an individual who has been very callous with the | :37:21. | :37:24.
crime. He has targeted a small, family run business. He has gone to | :37:25. | :37:29.
the back office, where he has taken small amounts of money, and then, | :37:30. | :37:33.
more pertinently, he has stolen a charity collection box which | :37:34. | :37:38.
contained approximately ?200. Whilst it equates to a relatively small | :37:39. | :37:43.
amount in monetary terms, it is the big emotional affect that it has on | :37:44. | :37:47.
them. There is also an element of when they locked the doors at night, | :37:48. | :37:53.
will there have been another break-in in the morning? Everybody | :37:54. | :37:57.
says, you are insured, but we still have to pay an excess each time. We | :37:58. | :38:02.
are going to definitely carry on with the charity, we raised ?3500 | :38:03. | :38:08.
now. We think it is important to support it. They could have trashed | :38:09. | :38:13.
the place, torched it, and the worst thing is it was February, and then | :38:14. | :38:20.
six weeks later again - how long is this going to happen? This is where | :38:21. | :38:24.
we want to catch him. We absolutely do want to catch | :38:25. | :38:27.
this fella, so take another look | :38:28. | :38:30.
at the CCTV image. Do you recognise | :38:31. | :38:31.
this light-fingered low-life? He's described as | :38:32. | :38:34.
around 20 years old, with a thin build | :38:35. | :38:36.
and white complexion. He was wearing a North Face jacket | :38:37. | :38:38.
and tracksuit bottoms. Next, the Metropolitan Police | :38:39. | :38:44.
urgently needs your help to catch a man who preyed on a vulnerable | :38:45. | :38:47.
woman with learning difficulties and autism, stealing | :38:48. | :38:50.
more than ?200 from her. On 10th April this year, | :38:51. | :38:53.
the victim was walking around She's in her 50s | :38:54. | :38:56.
and her vulnerability is visible. and tricked her into giving him ?25 | :38:57. | :39:02.
which she had in her wallet. About five minutes later, | :39:03. | :39:08.
he approached her again, this time telling her that | :39:09. | :39:11.
she owed him ?200 for work he claimed to have carried | :39:12. | :39:13.
out on her mother's house, CCTV shows man walking | :39:14. | :39:16.
the victim to a cash machine on Kew Bridge Road in Brentford, | :39:17. | :39:21.
where she withdrew the money. He's wearing very | :39:22. | :39:24.
distinctive clothing - bright yellow and black trousers, | :39:25. | :39:29.
a blue checked shirt and beige cap. Three months on, the woman | :39:30. | :39:32.
is still traumatised by the incident and is finding it hard to understand | :39:33. | :39:35.
why she was targeted. If you have any information, | :39:36. | :39:38.
please get in touch. Or you can speak to | :39:39. | :39:41.
Crimestoppers anonymously. from Avon and Somerset Police's | :39:42. | :39:44.
underwater search team. Nick, your diver | :39:45. | :39:55.
is still down there. How is he getting on? It has been | :39:56. | :40:04.
very difficult, but he has found the gun. He's coming up now! How | :40:05. | :40:09.
difficult was it? Very little visibility, it is all down to touch, | :40:10. | :40:15.
but it works. We should say that was just an exercise, so they knew | :40:16. | :40:18.
roughly where to look, but much harder in real life. We are | :40:19. | :40:23.
currently looking for a suitcase in relation to a murder which has been | :40:24. | :40:26.
going on for three or four macro weeks, the conditions are the same, | :40:27. | :40:31.
no visibility. You search these waters all the time, what have you | :40:32. | :40:38.
found? We found a World War II helmets, a full life-size version of | :40:39. | :40:43.
Russell Crowe, lots of weapons and guns. It is not just weapons, Nicola | :40:44. | :40:50.
is here, what happened to you? Before we come to you, our diver has | :40:51. | :40:53.
just arrived with the gun, proof that he has founded, brilliant! What | :40:54. | :41:00.
did they find for you? These guys found my engagement ring. About a | :41:01. | :41:03.
year ago, I was out rowing here early in the morning, and I put my | :41:04. | :41:09.
engagement ring in my friend's bag, and it wasn't there when we came | :41:10. | :41:15.
back. Two weeks of frantic panic searching, the harbour master got | :41:16. | :41:19.
the word out that I had lost it, and these guys were on a training | :41:20. | :41:21.
exercise and had a look while they were down there, and unbelievably, | :41:22. | :41:29.
they founded for me. That is incredible, congratulations, you got | :41:30. | :41:32.
married last autumn, we can see a photo of that now. Just how | :41:33. | :41:36.
difficult was it? I think I described it as trying to find a | :41:37. | :41:41.
pinhead in a football stadium while blindfolded. I am glad we got the | :41:42. | :41:45.
ring back. How did you feel when they got it to the surface? I'm sure | :41:46. | :41:50.
you thought you had lost it. I thought it was gone, but I just | :41:51. | :41:55.
cried, I didn't have any words, I was just delighted, my husband was | :41:56. | :41:59.
very happy as well! We should say this was a one-off, a happy ending, | :42:00. | :42:04.
but the team generally don't do requests. Rav. | :42:05. | :42:06.
Just time for a quick update now on your calls. | :42:07. | :42:10.
You have helped police make yet another arrest. Two weeks ago, we | :42:11. | :42:16.
showed you CCTV of an attack on a man in an off-licence in east | :42:17. | :42:20.
London. Officers have arrested and charged a man with GBH, but they are | :42:21. | :42:24.
still keen to identify this man in connection with the incident. | :42:25. | :42:28.
Yesterday, we asked for your help after a scam in Dorset in which | :42:29. | :42:32.
police believe a car for sale was tampered with in order to try to | :42:33. | :42:37.
knock down the price. Police say you have given impossible names for the | :42:38. | :42:41.
men which they are chasing up. It is our last show tomorrow, where are | :42:42. | :42:42.
you going to be? Rav, I'll be ending our road trip | :42:43. | :42:44.
in Cardiff, finding out what makes I might even end up | :42:45. | :42:47.
behind bars myself! And we'll also be going along | :42:48. | :42:53.
on an operation to seize counterfeit products and dangerous | :42:54. | :42:56.
fake electrical goods. For more details about the crimes | :42:57. | :43:00.
on today's programme, Before we go, here's another look | :43:01. | :43:08.
at this morning's wanted faces. If any of them look familiar, | :43:09. | :43:14.
