Good morning. We are on the road once again with police asking your | :00:08. | :00:15.
help to bring criminals to justice. The callous thief who stole a man's | :00:16. | :00:19.
car and left him for dead. What was going to his mind, I don't know, it | :00:20. | :00:24.
is a mindless thing to do. Trapped underground as water rises, | :00:25. | :00:29.
we find out how rescue teams train to help cavers in trouble. We will | :00:30. | :00:33.
get people up front and rear, we will be pushing and pulling and | :00:34. | :00:41.
driving it through a tight passageway. | :00:42. | :00:43.
I am on an oil rig looking at the unusual skills emergency crews need | :00:44. | :00:46.
to work in places like this. You're watching Crimewatch Roadshow. | :00:47. | :01:08.
Welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow, we are coming to you live each morning, | :01:09. | :01:13.
highlighting everyday crime which could affect anyone of us. Also | :01:14. | :01:20.
today... The disabled grandfather brutally beaten on his way home from | :01:21. | :01:25.
the rugby club. I looked into the mirror and saw blood trickling down | :01:26. | :01:29.
from my head down my face onto my clothes. And I will be finding out | :01:30. | :01:34.
how gyroplanes like these are patrolling the skies to protect the | :01:35. | :01:37.
public. This morning the team have moved on | :01:38. | :01:41.
to a specialist training Centre in Darlington. Good morning, what are | :01:42. | :01:47.
you up to? The emergency services had to train | :01:48. | :01:52.
for huge range of challenging situations and this facility | :01:53. | :01:55.
specialises in industrial and aviation scenarios. Crews trouble | :01:56. | :01:58.
here from all over the world to practice drills on-board | :01:59. | :02:01.
helicopters, planes and even oil rigs. | :02:02. | :02:05.
We will find out how they do it. First, to Bradford and West | :02:06. | :02:08.
Yorkshire where police are hunting for a thief who would stop at | :02:09. | :02:14.
nothing to his getaway. -- to make his getaway. I could have | :02:15. | :02:19.
been dead. If my neighbour had not come out when he did, that could | :02:20. | :02:21.
have been it. I am from Bradford, I have lived in | :02:22. | :02:35.
Bradford all my life. Phil is a family man who loves | :02:36. | :02:39.
nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. I am | :02:40. | :02:46.
very proud grandad. Only seven at the moment but there is another one | :02:47. | :02:51.
coming along. Other than that, I love football, watching football. I | :02:52. | :02:55.
used to take them every home game, away games as well. The three | :02:56. | :03:00.
grandchildren, I used to take with my daughter and sometimes my son as | :03:01. | :03:08.
well. They were good days out. As we sat here, just over the fence | :03:09. | :03:11.
out of their is where it took place that morning. Every time I come out | :03:12. | :03:18.
my gate it is there. It will not go away. | :03:19. | :03:27.
Phil's job means he works unsociable hours. | :03:28. | :03:30.
I work for a waste company dealing with skips and everything. Being the | :03:31. | :03:34.
manager of the yard I had to be first that, I am in bed at nine | :03:35. | :03:40.
o'clock. -- being the manager of the yard, I have to be the first one | :03:41. | :03:43.
there. Early one morning in April last | :03:44. | :03:47.
year, his usual routine took a very nasty turn. | :03:48. | :03:55.
I was up at 3am. Go down the stairs, put the kettle on. | :03:56. | :04:02.
At around 4am, Phil went outside to his four by four pick up and started | :04:03. | :04:06.
the engine to warm it up. Leaving the keys in the ignition. | :04:07. | :04:19.
Go in, get the coffee. Just as he headed back outside, he | :04:20. | :04:24.
spotted something unusual. I looked up the car, it was creeping | :04:25. | :04:29.
forward and I thought the handbrake had flipped. I went on the front of | :04:30. | :04:34.
the car, glanced through the windscreen and saw a figure in the | :04:35. | :04:38.
driver's seat. He floored the accelerator and dragged me into the | :04:39. | :04:41.
road. The driver sped off, leaving Phil | :04:42. | :04:48.
for dead. Fortunately, Phil's neighbour was | :04:49. | :04:53.
awake. I heard a loud roar going up the road and I said to myself, that | :04:54. | :04:58.
is not Phil driving that car. Immediately I rushed downstairs, got | :04:59. | :05:03.
out as fast as I can and I found Phil lying on the floor in immense | :05:04. | :05:09.
pain. He said, they have taken my car and run over me. Nick Foles for | :05:10. | :05:17.
an ambulance. -- phoned for an ambulance. If he had not come out | :05:18. | :05:22.
when he did, that could have been the end. Phil's injuries were | :05:23. | :05:27.
horrific. His pelvis was shattered, he had a punctured lung, broken | :05:28. | :05:32.
bones in his neck, ten broken ribs and a serious head wound. He had to | :05:33. | :05:36.
be placed in a medically induced coma. | :05:37. | :05:41.
I can't believe he is here today, to be fair. He just proper fought on. I | :05:42. | :05:46.
did not think he would be out of the wheelchair, to be honest. | :05:47. | :05:51.
This was an extremely nasty incident. The victim was left for | :05:52. | :05:55.
dead on the grass verge, the suspect made off and made no attempt to come | :05:56. | :06:02.
back and look after the victim. The effect on Phil and his family | :06:03. | :06:07.
has been devastating. My main concern is my wife. She has | :06:08. | :06:11.
been through an awful lot this year. She has lost a lot of weight. My | :06:12. | :06:17.
immediate thought is for her, really. | :06:18. | :06:20.
Phil still can't comprehend the actions of the driver who stole his | :06:21. | :06:24.
car. What was going through his mind, I don't know. It was a | :06:25. | :06:30.
mindless thing to do. It could have robbed all of my family of me. | :06:31. | :06:39.
Well, Phil is lucky to be alive after such an horrific attack. DCI | :06:40. | :06:44.
Andy Howard joins me now. We heard that Phil was following his usual | :06:45. | :06:48.
early morning routine, he had left the engine running in his car. Do we | :06:49. | :06:54.
think he was deliberately targeted? It is a possibility. Like you say, | :06:55. | :06:58.
it was a regular routine for him and it might have been somebody aware of | :06:59. | :07:02.
that routine, but we are not ruling out that it could have been an | :07:03. | :07:05.
opportunist, somebody walking by who saw the vehicle with the engine | :07:06. | :07:09.
running and decided to take the chance. What do we know about the | :07:10. | :07:15.
stolen vehicle? It was a Mitsubishi L 204 by four, Black and silver in | :07:16. | :07:20.
colour and happy Animal logo down the side. It was found about six | :07:21. | :07:26.
hours later on Bell House Avenue in Bierly, about a mile away from the | :07:27. | :07:32.
Holme Wood estate where they lived. I am keen to trace anybody who saw | :07:33. | :07:36.
that being driven around on the 12th of April 2016 or who saw anybody | :07:37. | :07:40.
leaving the vehicle on Bell House Avenue to come forward. You have | :07:41. | :07:45.
CCTV footage of someone you are keen to speak to? One of Phil's | :07:46. | :07:49.
neighbours captured CCTV of a tall, slim figure wearing a foodie. That | :07:50. | :07:55.
was seconds before the vehicle was taken -- wearing a foodie. We need | :07:56. | :08:01.
to speak to that person. We saw in the film that Phil suffered serious | :08:02. | :08:06.
injuries? Some life changing injuries. He was in an induced coma | :08:07. | :08:12.
for a substantial period. He had a broken pelvis, fractured ribs, he | :08:13. | :08:17.
has also suffered psychologically in relation to the attack and is still | :08:18. | :08:21.
suffering now over 12 months later, we are really keen to speak to | :08:22. | :08:25.
anybody with information in relation to this. Thank | :08:26. | :08:38.
you, Andy. Rav. If you can't get through on the | :08:39. | :08:41.
phones you can send us a text. Next, time for a round-up of criminals | :08:42. | :08:44.
caught on CCTV. One of these is pretty full on. | :08:45. | :08:46.
It is the middle of the day and some unexpected guests are paying a visit | :08:47. | :08:49.
to a back garden in south London. It looks like they don't want to be | :08:50. | :08:53.
seen. Especially when one realise he has shown us his face. Whereas his | :08:54. | :08:59.
pal has forgotten to wear a belt and does not seem too bothered about | :09:00. | :09:03.
bearing more than his face! The homeowner returned later to find | :09:04. | :09:09.
over ?1000 worth of jewellery and an antique coin collection missing from | :09:10. | :09:12.
their home. Any idea who these two are? | :09:13. | :09:17.
Police would also like to speak to this man, who approach the property | :09:18. | :09:22.
40 minutes before the burglary took place, he may have vital | :09:23. | :09:32.
information. You know what to do. It is just gone midnight and | :09:33. | :09:35.
everyone seems to be enjoying the quiet drink at the local pub. But | :09:36. | :09:41.
things do not stay calm for long. Watch the two punters at the back of | :09:42. | :09:45.
the bar chatting. They have never met but seem to be having a good | :09:46. | :09:51.
natter. When out of nowhere, the man sitting down launches himself that | :09:52. | :09:56.
his neighbour, savagely attacking him until he is sprawled on the | :09:57. | :10:01.
floor. He does not stop there and lashes out, pummelling the man until | :10:02. | :10:11.
he is unconscious. Then out of the blue, another two blokes decide they | :10:12. | :10:14.
should have a go and kick the victim while he is down. Eventually the | :10:15. | :10:17.
troublemakers are called off when they leave, having fractured the | :10:18. | :10:23.
man's ribs. Fortunately the victim regains consciousness but is still | :10:24. | :10:25.
suffering blackouts since the attack. | :10:26. | :10:32.
Police need your help to identify these spineless thugs. Name them. | :10:33. | :10:43.
It is the early hours on a Saturday morning outside a hairdresser's in | :10:44. | :10:47.
south-east London. This man is not here for a short back and sides. | :10:48. | :10:52.
Instead, this resourceful raider uses whatever he can find to smash | :10:53. | :10:57.
his way through one of the doors before finally managing to get | :10:58. | :11:01.
inside. Exiting the property only minutes | :11:02. | :11:07.
later, he gets away with items worth almost a grand. Who is this sneaky | :11:08. | :11:13.
salon raider? If you know the name of anyone you | :11:14. | :11:17.
have just seen then we need to hear from you. Callers for free on 08000 | :11:18. | :11:27.

your message. Texts will be charged up the standard rate. The e-mail | :11:32. | :11:36.
address is [email protected]. This morning I am in Darlington, not | :11:37. | :11:40.
too far from the North Sea coast, where there are hundreds of UK owned | :11:41. | :11:45.
oil and gas rigs. Many other people who work on these rigs come here for | :11:46. | :11:49.
training. The man who prepares them for their life offshore and for any | :11:50. | :11:55.
situations that could happen is Steve. IDEMITSU. This looks so | :11:56. | :12:01.
realistic, it plays a very important role in the training that happens | :12:02. | :12:06.
here. Talkers do the exercise, what is the problem? It is a toxic gas | :12:07. | :12:14.
release exercise, fatal for people. We will have a hazmat exercise for | :12:15. | :12:18.
the emergency response team. It seems serious. We have various | :12:19. | :12:23.
zones. Talk me through how they work? Prior to them coming in we do | :12:24. | :12:28.
a fantastic risk assessment of the area and decide where the hot zone | :12:29. | :12:33.
is. A limited amount of personnel with the correct equipment will be | :12:34. | :12:36.
allowed in there. We have the warm zone set up where we have further | :12:37. | :12:42.
reduced equipment for guys that will do the decontamination of the guys | :12:43. | :12:47.
going into the highly hazardous area, then the cold zone, where the | :12:48. | :12:52.
guys are dressed and disrobed at the end of the incident. | :12:53. | :12:56.
I have never seen a uniform quite like that. What are they wearing and | :12:57. | :13:02.
why? That is a full gas tight suit, we have done the risk assessment on | :13:03. | :13:06.
the product coming out, that is the best protection for those guys, | :13:07. | :13:11.
fully encapsulated gas protective suits. As we follow them, they are | :13:12. | :13:15.
going into what you call the hot zone. As you said before they are | :13:16. | :13:20.
trying to stop a leak. How will they go about doing that? We have done | :13:21. | :13:25.
the risk assessment and talk to the control room and we have the details | :13:26. | :13:29.
from the offshore installation manager that he needs a valve to be | :13:30. | :13:33.
isolated to cut down on the exposure of this project to the rig. | :13:34. | :13:38.
With this kind of thing, I imagine time is of the essence? You have to | :13:39. | :13:43.
have a lot of training to do this, for me as a novice it looks | :13:44. | :13:48.
incredible. They do an initial four decors and come back and do an | :13:49. | :13:55.
refresher every couple of years. Fingers crossed they manage to stop | :13:56. | :13:58.
the pressurised league. Make sure you join us later to see what | :13:59. | :14:02.
happens. Thanks, Michelle. Lots more to come, | :14:03. | :14:07.
including... A violent attack on a man as he | :14:08. | :14:11.
walked home from a night out at the rugby club. I am glad I contacted my | :14:12. | :14:17.
friend. If I had been at home on my own then nobody would have known I | :14:18. | :14:22.
had collapsed. It would have been a different story. And more eyes in | :14:23. | :14:26.
the sky, how civilians are using these amazing flying machines to | :14:27. | :14:27.
help patrol from above. Now, last Wednesday, due to the | :14:28. | :14:39.
tragic events that Grenfell Tower, many of you would understandably | :14:40. | :14:42.
have missed an important appeal on this programme from Kent Police. | :14:43. | :14:47.
Back in 1987, two young women were murdered within five weeks of each | :14:48. | :14:51.
other. Both victims lived in bedsits in Tunbridge Wells and both were | :14:52. | :14:55.
killed in similar ways. Police thought a serial killer was on the | :14:56. | :14:58.
loose and launched a massive manhunt but 30 years on the killer has yet | :14:59. | :15:07.
to be caught. Why did he have to kill her? She | :15:08. | :15:16.
never upset anybody. Was it because she knew him? There is always that | :15:17. | :15:23.
question, why did he have to kill her? At 12 o'clock, BBC Radio Kent | :15:24. | :15:32.
News. Police today issued a fresh appeal for witnesses following the | :15:33. | :15:37.
murder... In the summer of 1987, the quiet town of Tunbridge Wells was | :15:38. | :15:41.
rocked by news of an horrific murder. | :15:42. | :15:52.
25-year-old Wendy Knell worked in a shop. She lived in a house made up | :15:53. | :15:59.
of nine small bedsits. She was on the ground floor. Her window could | :16:00. | :16:03.
not be locked because the latch was painted over. Her room faced out | :16:04. | :16:08.
onto the garden and an alleyway onto the back of the street. A prowler | :16:09. | :16:16.
had recently been seen in the area. She spent the evening of Monday the | :16:17. | :16:21.
22nd of June at her boyfriend's house. He dropped her back to her | :16:22. | :16:27.
bedsit at 11:15pm. That was the last time she was seen alive. Wendy was | :16:28. | :16:33.
found the next morning. She had been brutally attacked and murdered. I | :16:34. | :16:38.
was driving minibuses in Tunbridge and when I got back to the station, | :16:39. | :16:45.
the inspector said your wife is panicking, your daughter has not | :16:46. | :16:49.
turned up to work. So I went to the bottom of the cul-de-sac where she | :16:50. | :16:56.
lived and there were two War three police cars and people outside of | :16:57. | :17:02.
Wendy's flat. Two policeman brought me home because they would not let | :17:03. | :17:08.
me drive my car. I went in sobbing my heart out and said that our | :17:09. | :17:17.
daughter was dead. This was a huge investigation at the | :17:18. | :17:21.
time for Kent Police. Huge amounts of resources put into it. Large | :17:22. | :17:27.
media appeals and a number of lines of enquiry that were followed, but | :17:28. | :17:33.
the case eventually went nowhere. The investigation team turned to | :17:34. | :17:36.
crime watch and a national appeal went out. But as police were | :17:37. | :17:50.
following leads from the Crimewatch appeal, reports came through that | :17:51. | :17:55.
another body had been found. A double murder hunt is underway in | :17:56. | :18:01.
Kent tonight following the discovery of a body on Romney Marsh. | :18:02. | :18:07.
Caroline's body was found. Caroline Pierce lived in a bedsit. She lived | :18:08. | :18:12.
on the same street as Wendy where she managed a restaurant. On the | :18:13. | :18:17.
night of Tuesday 24th of November, Caroline had been out with her | :18:18. | :18:20.
friends and decided to take a cab home. Shortly after, a number of | :18:21. | :18:31.
residents heard screams. Caroline's body was found in a ditch three | :18:32. | :18:36.
weeks later. She too had been brutally murdered. Kent Police threw | :18:37. | :18:45.
everything at the cases. Think of the impact in that community in that | :18:46. | :18:50.
town at the time, with two murders of two young women in bedsits. This | :18:51. | :18:57.
was a big investigation. Keys were missing from both crime scenes. The | :18:58. | :19:04.
killer was never caught. But for 30 years the police have refused to | :19:05. | :19:11.
give up. These merger investigations are never closed and the cold case | :19:12. | :19:16.
team has been reviewing and investigating these murders. The | :19:17. | :19:22.
biggest breakthrough came from DNA testing. There was no match on the | :19:23. | :19:31.
national DNA database. Through the modern DNA and forensics techniques, | :19:32. | :19:35.
they identified a DNA profile from Wendy's murder. Despite there being | :19:36. | :19:43.
no match on the system, for the cold case team, the hunt for the killer | :19:44. | :19:49.
of Wendy Knell and Caroline Pierce continues. Did someone come home | :19:50. | :19:58.
with blood on them? A change in behaviour? My view is whoever | :19:59. | :20:05.
committed these murders needed to be expecting a call and are not on | :20:06. | :20:13.
their door at any time. Just before it happened I turned 50 and they all | :20:14. | :20:18.
said to me your life begins at 50. That happened and my life finished, | :20:19. | :20:25.
as I knew it then. I have got quite a lot of cancer and the specialist | :20:26. | :20:29.
says they cannot do any more for me. If I wake up every morning, it is a | :20:30. | :20:36.
bonus, but I would really, really like him caught before the end | :20:37. | :20:37.
comes, to know who it was. You know? It is just so sad that Bill did not | :20:38. | :20:53.
live to see justice for his daughter. If you can help in anyway, | :20:54. | :20:59.
get in touch using the on screen. Now, every week we are asking for | :21:00. | :21:06.
your help to help trace person. Police have launched a fresh appeal | :21:07. | :21:11.
to trace this man, 52-year-old Nigel Kido from St Osyth in Essex. I'm | :21:12. | :21:16.
joined by Nigel's sister Diana Mays and Detective cheapens the Marie | :21:17. | :21:29.
Hayes from Norfolk Constabulary. Tell me what Nigel was like. He | :21:30. | :21:36.
spent a lot of time with his son. They played a lot of football. He | :21:37. | :21:39.
was looking forward to the holidays where he could spend a lot of time | :21:40. | :21:44.
with him. And to go missing like this was completely out of | :21:45. | :21:50.
character? He was devoted to his son. DCI James, from a police point | :21:51. | :21:57.
of view, what do we know about his last movements? We know he travelled | :21:58. | :22:08.
to Essex and spent the night with a female friend. The last known | :22:09. | :22:12.
sighting was when Nigel was seen in the long Stratton area in April. We | :22:13. | :22:17.
have a map of where the sightings would have been. We have Norwich | :22:18. | :22:23.
here. Talk me through this area here. This is the Long Stratton | :22:24. | :22:30.
area. We know at 6:20am Nigel withdrew ?100 from his bank account. | :22:31. | :22:35.
He then purchased a bottle of water. There has been no other activity on | :22:36. | :22:41.
Nigel's bank account. The last known sighting was in Thelveton between | :22:42. | :22:50.
nine and 10am on that morning. We have some footage now. A nice clear | :22:51. | :22:55.
image. This is the clothing we thought he was wearing at the time | :22:56. | :23:01.
of his disappearance? That is right, if anyone saw Nigel that morning in | :23:02. | :23:05.
the Thelveton area or the Long Stratton area, we would urge them to | :23:06. | :23:09.
come forward to help us. However insignificant they think that might | :23:10. | :23:14.
be, please come forward and help Nigel and the family. And if he is | :23:15. | :23:17.
watching this right now, what would you like to say? Call someone and | :23:18. | :23:25.
let us know you are a. Whatever has happened we can sort it and we can | :23:26. | :23:29.
help him. It does not matter what the reason is, you just want to know | :23:30. | :23:35.
he is OK? He is loved and we just want him home. Thank you both for | :23:36. | :23:40.
joining me today. Let's hope someone watching has the information to help | :23:41. | :23:45.
find Nigel soon. Welcome back to our training | :23:46. | :23:49.
exercise at a specialist facility in Darlington. Earlier, you saw our | :23:50. | :23:54.
emergency crews trying to stop a chemical leak. This is something | :23:55. | :23:58.
which could happen in an offshore platform. It is important that crews | :23:59. | :24:02.
are trained safely and efficiently. I'm joined by instructor Steve | :24:03. | :24:07.
Hadwin. How are they doing? Absolutely fantastic. They have | :24:08. | :24:13.
achieved the objective and stopped the flow. That is not the end of the | :24:14. | :24:18.
exercise? No, it is only a small part. The next phase is to go into | :24:19. | :24:24.
decontamination in the warm zone. I'm going to help you out. Talk me | :24:25. | :24:29.
through what I need to do. We are going to take the position of one of | :24:30. | :24:32.
these gentlemen and what we are going to do is we are going to scrub | :24:33. | :24:37.
them from head to toe using the brushes available. This is a very | :24:38. | :24:43.
different type of shower? Very different shower. So I basically | :24:44. | :24:50.
just need to give them a good scrub. Everywhere you feel they need a good | :24:51. | :24:54.
scrub. I'm good at brushing. How long do they have to do this for? | :24:55. | :25:01.
The solution to pollution is dilutions. I like that, the solution | :25:02. | :25:07.
to pollution is stylish and. When they are out of this warm zone into | :25:08. | :25:12.
the coal zone you do not want any form of chemicals into that area -- | :25:13. | :25:16.
when they go from the warm zone into the cold zone. You get all of the | :25:17. | :25:26.
product off and then disrobing the guys. How are they feeling in these | :25:27. | :25:31.
suits at the minute? Is it pretty hot? It is pretty warm. It is quite | :25:32. | :25:39.
humid as well. It is filling up with damp air inside. It is really | :25:40. | :25:46.
interesting because we don't tend to think of skills like this, but if | :25:47. | :25:51.
you are stranded on an oil-rich, skills like this are invaluable and | :25:52. | :25:56.
it does make a difference. I'm going to keep on scrubbing, I will see you | :25:57. | :25:59.
later. Thanks, Michelle. Next to York where | :26:00. | :26:06.
police are appealing for help as a grandfather made his way home from a | :26:07. | :26:11.
local rugby club. For Andy Boldison, going to his | :26:12. | :26:14.
local rugby club with friends as always been something to look | :26:15. | :26:21.
forward to. I am unemployed, I don't work, I am on disability. Andy has | :26:22. | :26:26.
have hired ill-health since donating a kidney to his sister Mandy 13 | :26:27. | :26:35.
years ago. I have problems on my left side, chronic nerve damage. The | :26:36. | :26:41.
highlight of my week is to go to the Acorn, mix with friends, it is a | :26:42. | :26:47.
nice place, nice people. I usually walk home. Sometimes my old | :26:48. | :26:51.
schoolmates walks home as well, but other time I am on my own. It is | :26:52. | :26:58.
three or four minutes walk to where I live. Normally the walk is quiet. | :26:59. | :27:03.
I see maybe a couple of people. Sometimes I don't see anybody. One | :27:04. | :27:11.
Saturday last month, Andy spent an enjoyable evening at the club. I got | :27:12. | :27:18.
in the Acorn club, about 7:30pm, eight o'clock, sat with my friends, | :27:19. | :27:24.
watching the entertainment. Having a good night, good chat. At the end of | :27:25. | :27:29.
the night, it would have been about 12:30pm one I left. Andy sat off -- | :27:30. | :27:46.
Andy set off on his short walk home. I heard two guys behind me, seemed | :27:47. | :27:54.
to be arguing. One was carrying a glass in his hand. I never said | :27:55. | :28:01.
anything to them, he never said anything to me. And then within | :28:02. | :28:12.
maybe 20 or 30 seconds, I just felt a bang on my head. He remembers | :28:13. | :28:25.
waking up in the same spot some time later, and then walking back to his | :28:26. | :28:32.
home. When I got into my house, I went into the bathroom. I looked | :28:33. | :28:37.
into the mirror and I saw blood trickling from my head, down my | :28:38. | :28:42.
face, onto my clothes. I was in a lot of pain and I could not stop the | :28:43. | :28:49.
bleeding. Andy contacted a friend who is a first aid for help. He sent | :28:50. | :28:56.
her pictures of his head injury. The friend agreed to come and meet him, | :28:57. | :29:02.
so Andy started walking to her house. I got past the Acorn Rugby | :29:03. | :29:08.
Club, going to her house, and then I must have collapsed again. She said | :29:09. | :29:20.
I was out cold. Andy? Andy was taken to hospital where he needed stitches | :29:21. | :29:21.
to his head. This is a serious incident, he had a | :29:22. | :29:31.
significant injury to his head and needed to have over half a dozen | :29:32. | :29:35.
stitches. The victim is unable to recollect what happened, so it is | :29:36. | :29:39.
vital that if anyone has information they come forward to help us | :29:40. | :29:43.
establish the full circumstances. And he has suffered from headaches | :29:44. | :29:46.
after the attack and is anxious about walking on his own. | :29:47. | :29:52.
If I go out at night time I am very wary. If I hear anybody around me I | :29:53. | :29:58.
am looking around all the time. I am glad I contacted my friend to meet | :29:59. | :30:06.
her. If I had been at home on my own then nobody would have known I had | :30:07. | :30:13.
collapsed. It could have been a whole different story. I am a family | :30:14. | :30:17.
man, I have got children and grandchildren. It is actually made | :30:18. | :30:21.
me think differently, because it could have been a lot worse in the | :30:22. | :30:26.
sense that I could have maybe not seen them again. | :30:27. | :30:33.
A really horrible attack. PC Amanda Popely from North Yorkshire Police | :30:34. | :30:39.
jointly. Andy's head injury, we have an image of it, it is particularly | :30:40. | :30:45.
distressing but it gives a good insight into how nasty the injury | :30:46. | :30:50.
was? It was a nasty head injury. He suffered a cut to the top of his | :30:51. | :30:54.
head about four inches in length in the shape of the semicircle. We | :30:55. | :30:58.
believe it was caused with a glass. He needed hospital treatment and | :30:59. | :31:02.
stitches and was left unconscious after the incident. Remind us when | :31:03. | :31:07.
and where it happened? On the early hours of Sunday the 7th of May 2017, | :31:08. | :31:14.
about half past midnight. Andy was on his way back from the Acorn Rugby | :31:15. | :31:19.
Club the incident happened on Windsor Garth in York not too far | :31:20. | :31:24.
from his home address. Do we believe there was a motive? Does not appear | :31:25. | :31:30.
to be. Andy recalls seeing two males walking closely behind him prior to | :31:31. | :31:34.
the incident. They were arguing and it is believed one of them had a | :31:35. | :31:38.
glass in his hand. There was a distinctive item of clothing one of | :31:39. | :31:45.
them had on? We would like to speak to a wearing a light blue coloured | :31:46. | :31:47.
Harrington jacket similar to this one. It is important that if anyone | :31:48. | :31:52.
can recall seeing a male wearing this sort of jacket at that sort of | :31:53. | :31:56.
time they come forward with information. As you heard from | :31:57. | :32:00.
Amanda, any information, please get in touch. The numbers will be on | :32:01. | :32:05.
screen throughout the programme, we always standing by for your calls. | :32:06. | :32:15.
Please get in contact. You can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 | :32:16. | :32:18.
555 111. If you have been a victim of crime you can contact Victim | :32:19. | :32:29.
Support on 0808 1689 111. We all know helicopters have an | :32:30. | :32:33.
important role in tackling crime and public protection, but other | :32:34. | :32:35.
aircraft often play a supporting role. A recent change in aviation | :32:36. | :32:39.
law means we could see more of that in future. To tell us more about | :32:40. | :32:45.
this intriguing flying machine is Jim Hughes, its pilot, from Sky | :32:46. | :32:47.
Watch Civil Air Patrol Highway Patrol. It is a gyroplanes, | :32:48. | :32:59.
officially, also known as an auto gyro or a gyrocopter. The rotor is | :33:00. | :33:06.
not powered in flight, physics keep it spinning. So it is the propulsion | :33:07. | :33:11.
that makes the rotors turned. That would explain a bit more when we saw | :33:12. | :33:17.
it taking off. It takes off like a plane? Wheelie between 5100 metres | :33:18. | :33:22.
worth of runway to get our boat -- airborne. We can do 90% of what a | :33:23. | :33:27.
helicopter can do, we can hover, descends vertically, generally in | :33:28. | :33:33.
flight it flies like a fix plane. Can I go inside? I have been gagging | :33:34. | :33:39.
to do this. At of a tight squeeze. You have spent quite a few hours in | :33:40. | :33:46.
here? That left seat is my office. It has all the instruments in here, | :33:47. | :33:51.
I am not sure if we can see it but there a nifty camera which is vital. | :33:52. | :33:59.
With the commercial gyroplanes, the camera provides real-time imaging | :34:00. | :34:05.
for search and rescue and emergency services. You can see images you | :34:06. | :34:09.
have taken with this, this is a flood that you dealt with? This is | :34:10. | :34:14.
in 2015, we were tasked to take pictures of the flooding in York by | :34:15. | :34:21.
the army. And this is a fire, and aerosol factory which exploded at | :34:22. | :34:24.
Pocklington and we sent live images to the North Yorks police control | :34:25. | :34:30.
room during the response. You are the eyes in the sky. You are a | :34:31. | :34:35.
volunteer, you do this in your own time, the police in other countries | :34:36. | :34:41.
have even use these? Certainly in the US they have used them for many | :34:42. | :34:45.
years, this commercial gyroplanes, they ordered 20 of them. In Germany | :34:46. | :34:51.
they have used them for traffic monitoring, it is costing more than | :34:52. | :34:56.
anything. New aviation law means you can fly this at night? It is like | :34:57. | :35:03.
flying any other aircraft, very exciting times. It is fascinating | :35:04. | :35:10.
kit, thank you for showing us. Back to you, Michelle. | :35:11. | :35:16.
Summer is the peak season for us to enjoy our stunning countryside, | :35:17. | :35:19.
although it is a bit overcast in Chile in the north-east. For some | :35:20. | :35:23.
outdoor enthusiasts it means exploring the ground. We spent the | :35:24. | :35:27.
day with a cave rescue team in the Yorkshire Dales to see how they | :35:28. | :35:30.
spring into action when things do not go to plan. | :35:31. | :35:39.
It is every cave's worst nightmare. To be trapped deep underground as | :35:40. | :35:44.
the water rises -- it is every caver's worst nightmare. Every year, | :35:45. | :35:49.
cavers had to be rescued after getting into difficulties. In the | :35:50. | :35:54.
Yorkshire Dales, which has the most extensive cave systems in the UK, it | :35:55. | :35:58.
is the job of the Swaledale Mountain rescue team to help people in | :35:59. | :36:06.
trouble. It has been challenging. Sometimes very exciting. Really | :36:07. | :36:12.
enjoyed it. It is a big commitment and a substantial amount of training | :36:13. | :36:18.
required. Graham Brown has been part of the team for 40 years. We are | :36:19. | :36:23.
doing an underground practice today down a pothole called Potter, a | :36:24. | :36:31.
popular pothole in the area. -- down a pothole called Crackpot. Graham's | :36:32. | :36:40.
wife Sandra, also a member of the team, will be playing the injured | :36:41. | :36:45.
casualty. I feel it is important to do it, if there is a live casualty | :36:46. | :36:50.
they want to know what they are doing. It is a worthwhile half day | :36:51. | :36:57.
spent with the guys. Leading the team today will be | :36:58. | :37:01.
Allenwood head, a veteran cave of 26 years. -- will be Alan, a veteran | :37:02. | :37:10.
cave rescue. We will package them with a stretcher and evacuate them | :37:11. | :37:11.
to the surface. It is a tough 500 metres scrambled | :37:12. | :37:29.
down with everyone crawling on their elbows and knees through a one metre | :37:30. | :37:35.
high passageway aptly known as Sidnei Wrecker. -- Vinnie wrecker. | :37:36. | :37:46.
It takes a 20 minutes to reach the casualty, getting them out safely on | :37:47. | :37:50.
a stretcher could take two to three others. What is your name? Sandra. | :37:51. | :37:56.
My name is Graham, I am from your local mountain and cave rescue team. | :37:57. | :38:01.
Lower leg injury. We will assess the casualty, treat them in the cave as | :38:02. | :38:05.
best we can, make them comfortable, get them on the stretcher and | :38:06. | :38:10.
evacuate them to the surface. Team Doctor William is on hand to age | :38:11. | :38:14.
Graham in caring for the casualty's needs. -- to assist Graham. The only | :38:15. | :38:27.
injury is the lower leg. For a real-life casualty, the journey back | :38:28. | :38:30.
to the surface is a daunting prospect. The team must manage the | :38:31. | :38:34.
patient's trauma and guide them through the cave system as carefully | :38:35. | :38:42.
as possible. When we're in the wide stream way | :38:43. | :38:46.
where we are now we can carry a stretcher with three each side, | :38:47. | :38:49.
somebody in front and behind, guiding it through. | :38:50. | :38:59.
As we get further through the cave, we will start to use members of the | :39:00. | :39:03.
team to fill the gaps between the rocks, sliding it over our knees and | :39:04. | :39:08.
arms to make it as smooth as we can, finally as we get to tighter | :39:09. | :39:12.
sections we will get people to the front and rear pushing and pulling a | :39:13. | :39:16.
trucking it through a tighter passageway. | :39:17. | :39:20.
Despite if you close shaves, the team finally reaches the surface. -- | :39:21. | :39:26.
despite a a few close shaves. Sandra is unscathed. I am always worried | :39:27. | :39:30.
about my face getting caught on the rocks, there always seems to be | :39:31. | :39:34.
somebody to take it slowly and look after you. It is a training exercise | :39:35. | :39:40.
but in reality we are handling someone on a stretcher and carrying | :39:41. | :39:50.
them, we can graze and injure them. She is happy, we are happy, it has | :39:51. | :39:52.
been a good day. Terrifying, rather than Ben Mee. -- rather than Ben | :39:53. | :39:57.
Mee. Now it's time for a look | :39:58. | :39:58.
at today's Wanted Faces. This is Shazad Ghafoor, | :39:59. | :40:00.
although he also uses the names Nadeem Ahmed, | :40:01. | :40:02.
Nadeem Javaid or Mohammed Ghasoor. He was due to stand trial | :40:03. | :40:04.
in connection with the possession of cannabis with a street value | :40:05. | :40:07.
of millions of pounds, but he didn't turn up in court | :40:08. | :40:09.
and a warrant has been issued The 30-year-old has friends | :40:10. | :40:12.
and family in the Whalley Range, Burnage and Longsight areas | :40:13. | :40:16.
of Greater Manchester. This is John Paul Connors, | :40:17. | :40:17.
although you may know him by many of the other first names | :40:18. | :40:20.
he uses - such as Peter, Michael, Jimmy or Mathew. | :40:21. | :40:23.
He also uses the surname Connelly. He was due in court | :40:24. | :40:25.
in connection with two burglaries in North Yorkshire, | :40:26. | :40:27.
but didn't turn up. He's 26 and has a two inch | :40:28. | :40:29.
scar on his left arm. He has links to Leicester, | :40:30. | :40:32.

It has been a very eye opening experience at the Darlington | :41:29. | :41:31.
training facility today, I am joined by Rick Wilson, an instructor here. | :41:32. | :41:36.
You have also been a firefighter for 33 years. Just how hard is the job | :41:37. | :41:41.
of the firefighter? We have seen the emergency services do... AEROPLANE | :41:42. | :41:49.
DROWNS OUT SPEECH. The firefighter role can be | :41:50. | :41:53.
extremely demanding, physically and mentally. They attend such a wide | :41:54. | :41:58.
bright give incidents that everyday is unpredictable. | :41:59. | :42:01.
It has been amazing for me to get more of an insight into the work you | :42:02. | :42:05.
do, thank so much. They really are amazing people. | :42:06. | :42:10.
There is just time before we go to look at what has been coming and on | :42:11. | :42:13.
calls, texts and e-mails. Detectives are working on leads a lot of cases, | :42:14. | :42:19.
you may remember this man that we showed you yesterday, wanted by | :42:20. | :42:22.
officers from Devon and Cornwall Police in connection with the supply | :42:23. | :42:26.
of Class A drugs. You have given officers information which they say | :42:27. | :42:28.
is of great interest. You might remember we showed you | :42:29. | :42:33.
that horrific hammer attack yesterday on 76-year-old Sheila in | :42:34. | :42:37.
Cleckheaton. We showed you an effect of a man police want to trace and | :42:38. | :42:42.
