Today, we're in Manchester to meet two children and two guinea pigs.

-Yeah.

-And who's this?

-Coco and Squeaky.

-Coco and Squeaky? Where's Squeaky?

-Is this one Squeaky?

-Yeah.

And this is Coco here having a nice snack.

These are wonderful guinea pigs. Boys or girls?

-BOTH:

-Both girls.

-How old are these guys?

-One and a half.

-Have you had them since they were babies? BOTH:

-Yeah.

They're very sweet indeed.

I'm wondering what you guys love about them the most.

-Well, what I like about them most is when they kiss you.

-Oh-ho!

-Do you get a big kiss?

-Yeah.

-And what about you, Fred?

I like playing with Coco.

We should get them out and have a little cuddle.

-BOTH:

-Yeah!

-OK.

Right, come on, Squeaky.

Oh, she's lovely.

-Do you guys know where guinea pigs come from?

-Peru.

Yes, Peru, and South America. That's a long way away from here.

-BOTH:

-Yeah.

-They don't really look anything like pigs, though.

-BOTH:

-No.

-Cos they're not, they're rodents like mice or hamsters.

Very cute, though. What's that you've got there?

-It's a Peruvian waistcoat for the guineas.

-Wow. Very fancy.

RORY LAUGHS

She looks so cute. Look at that!

I'm glad to see you've got TWO guinea pigs.

Why is that important?

If you only get one guinea pig, it'll be lonely.

That's absolutely right.

Guinea pigs like to live in groups, so it's important to keep

at least two, but make sure you have all boys or all girls,

otherwise, you'll have baby guinea pigs running around.

-I've heard one of you can do a good impression of a guinea pig.

-It's me.

SHE SQUEAKS

He-he-he! That's a great impression.

Guinea pigs make all sorts of sounds, and it can mean

they're happy, they're sad,

they're scared or even excited. They're so cute.

Ferne, can you give us

some more facts about our furry friends, just like these guys?

Of course, Rory. One - guinea pigs can have different types of coats.

Some are wiry, some are long-haired,

and the most common is short and smooth.

Two - they tend to be very active during the day,

but less so at night.

Three - guinea pigs' teeth are always growing,

so it's important for them to

constantly gnaw on things to help wear their teeth down.

It's a good idea to give your guinea pigs a safe space

to run around both outside and inside.

While your mum is looking after Coco and Squeaky,

can you guys tell me a bit

about this amazing indoor hutch you've got?

So we've got a water bottle there what they like drinking out of.

Lovely. What else is in there, Fred?

Nuzzling in their boxes, one we made and one they can nibble on.

A house you can eat? Can you imagine that!

-Yeah, we asked them.

-Now, how often do you clean out the hutch?

Once a week.

-I'm here to help you today. Shall we do that now? BOTH:

-Yeah.

It's important to wear gloves when you're cleaning up

after your pets so you don't spread any germs.

-Mind out, Rory.

-Let's get the kennels out first.

Good work.

Here's the bag. I'll put that between you guys.

First, we get all of the old hay and sawdust

out of the cage, into the bin bag.

Then we take all of the old newspapers out.

Good work. That's the last little bit.

-How many sheets should we put down, guys? BOTH:

-All of them.

OK.

Then we put in lots of fresh sawdust.

That'll be all right. And hay.

-Just get it, like, up to the top.

-All the way up to there? BOTH:

-Yeah.

So that it's easy for them to burrow in and they get more sweets.

Perfect. They've got a nice place to hide.

OK, let's put the kennels back. Put that one in.

Fred, where's the other kennel?

Put it there.

This is all looking lovely, but there's something we've forgotten.

We need fresh nuggets.

Of course. What other food do you give the guinea pigs?

-I picked some dandelions in our school.

-Excellent.

-From your school?

-Yeah.

-Very nice.

-Shall we sort out the food now, then?

-Yeah.

Thank you. I'll pop these in.

Here. We've got some dandelion leaves.

-We scatter them all around the hutch.

-Great.

Bonita, what are you doing with that dried food?

I'm just making little holes,

then I can cover them up and then they can't see them,

so they sniff around a little while and then they can find them.

-Shall I do some over here, then?

-Yeah.

-OK.

That's a nice, varied diet you've got for those guys.

-How does this look?

-Great.

And then we have to get some fresh water.

-Now we need to put the lid back on as well, don't we? BOTH:

-Yeah.

Mum, please can you come and get the guinea pigs in?!

-Do you think they're going to like it? BOTH:

-Yeah.

Let's see, little rodents.

Look, there they go.

Oh. Oh, here we go, it's Coco.

Yay! Coco's in!

-Here comes Squeaky. Oh, there we go! Squeaky is in too. BOTH:

-Yay.

-Do you think they're happy with our work? BOTH:

-Yeah.

How can you tell?

Cos they're munching the dandelions,

-having a sniff and enjoying themselves.

-I think so.

GUINEA PIGS SQUEAK

I'm tired after all that hard work.

-I hope these guys appreciate it, don't you? BOTH:

-Yeah.

-They look very relaxed here. Do you think they'll have a nap?

-Maybe.

-Yeah, maybe.

-OK. If your guinea pigs fell asleep right now,

and dreamt they could do anything, what do you think they'd do?

If our pets could do anything,

they would climb to the top of a high mountain

and jump onto the clouds.

Once they'd finished bouncing on the clouds,

they'll sit down and have a rest

and watch all the birds flying in the sky.

Aw, your gorgeous guineas have a pretty brilliant life, don't they?

-BOTH:

-Yeah.

-And you've got two, so do you have one each?

-BOTH:

-Kind of.

Whose is whose?

I usually play with Coco...

And I usually play with Squeak.

You're holding them now, which is good.

What games do you like to play with them?

I like playing ballroom dancing with Squeaky.

I play obstacle course with recycled boxes.

That sounds like great fun and gives me an idea.

Why don't we make an obstacle game and you can be different teams?

-Yeah!

-Yes!

-I'll be Team Squeaky.

-And I'll be Team Coco.

And I'll be the referee.

Let's get these guys back in the hutches and we can get started.
