Today, we're in busy London to meet Ryan and his pet dog

and I've heard they live up there.

Hi, Luca. What a lovely dog!

Oh, wow. So, Ryan.

-Yeah.

-Tell me a bit about Luca. What sort of dog is he?

-A Staffie.

-Oh, a Staffordshire bull terrier.

-Yeah. And he's ten.

-And he's ten years old?

-Yeah.

-How old are you?

Seven!

So, this lovely dog has been around since you were born?

-Yeah.

-You guys must really get on well.

-Yeah.

-Oh, that's lovely.

And he's deaf.

-He's deaf? He can't hear anything at all?

-No.

-Oh, wow.

So, what do you do if you want Luca to sit down or give you a paw?

-We put our finger down.

-And then he gets a treat.

So, you show Luca hand signals, Ryan?

Yeah.

-Sit.

-Oh, wow!

Paw. Paw.

Paw as well. There we go, good boy!

That is so cool.

So, Luca can't hear, but he does understand hand signals.

-Yeah.

-So, that one was sit. Was it with your finger?

-Yeah.

-Do you think he'll do it for me?

-Yeah.

-Luca...

-Grandpa, let Rory have a treat.

That is amazing, you're a very smart dog.

Ferne, can you give us some more facts about Staffies,

just like lovable Luca here?

Of course, Rory.

Staffies come in lots of different colours.

Fawn, black,

red, or white.

They usually have a heart-shaped face. Aw!

A Staffie tends to have lots of energy

and they can be really good at ball games.

Ryan, I've got a challenge for you.

I want you to show me four things you do to care for Luca.

Ryan, why is the bowl on top of the bin?

-He'll eat it.

If you put that on the ground, he's going to gobble it all up.

-Will you help me feed him?

-Yeah, of course. I'll hold that tin.

Oh. Do you think he's going to like this?

Yeah! Look, Rory.

-He's eating it up.

-Yum-yum!

-Do you know why Luca's leg is shaking?

-Yeah.

-Why is that?

-Because he's old.

-Oh. He is an old dog.

-Yeah.

-Ten's old in dog years.

Look, he's giving you a shake!

I know, he's giving me a paw.

Good lad.

It's very important to brush your dog to get rid of

loose hairs and dirt.

-Do you want me to do some?

-Yeah!

I'll do some brushing. You tell me if I'm doing it right.

-Am I doing good?

-Yes.

I think Luca likes that.

That's lovely.

-Ryan?

-Yeah?

-High five.

That was awesome. You showed me four fabulous things that you

do for Luca. Very well done. But I've got just one question.

Where does Luca go to the toilet?

Outside in the park.

Good idea. If you've got a dog,

ideally it's best to have a garden as well.

That way, you can let them out whenever they want.

But if you don't, it's really important to let them outside to

stretch their legs and go to the loo as well.

Shall we see if Luca wants to go to the loo?

-Yeah.

-I've got the poo bags. Let's go!

-Bye, Grandpa.

-Bye-bye, boys.

Luca will show us the spot.

It's important to take your dog outside regularly,

to give them plenty of exercise and let them go to the toilet.

What's he doing here?

Right, we've got a poo here.

-Who's going to pick it up?

-You are.

-Do you know where the poo is?

-Yes, it's right here.

Right, what are we going to do with this?

-Throw it in the bin.

There we go.

Some parks, like this one, have a special bin for poo bags.

And once we've picked up poo, what do we need to do?

-Wash our hands!

-Yes, let's do it.

-Rory?

-Yeah?

-Down there is the canal.

Yeah, it's beautiful, isn't it?

Ryan, this park is awesome, there's so many things to do!

-Yeah.

-If Luca could do anything, though, anything at all,

what do you think he'd do?

If my pet could do anything,

he would be an amazing astronaut dog.

He would fly up to space in a white rocket

and float around and meet his alien friends.

They'll have a lovely picnic together on the moon

and watch shooting stars.

Ryan, I've heard that this park is full of lots of different animals,

-is that true?

-Yes.

-What sort of animals?

Dogs, ducks and foxes.

Wow! Now, I know Luca can't hear,

but he does have a great sense of smell

and I think he can sniff out lots of different animals. Don't you?

-Yeah.

-So shall we go on an animal-spotting adventure?

-Yeah.

-He's smelling one already, come on!

Oh, he's found some lovely birds.

I like these little pigeons.

Yeah, there's loads, aren't there?

Yeah.

-That's an Egyptian goose.

-Look, yellow.

-They're very handsome, aren't they?

I think Luca's sniffed something else out.

There's dogs up ahead! Look, see those dogs?

-Yeah.

-That's a nice dog, isn't it?

-What's that bird at the very end?

The one at the very end, far away?

That looks like some gulls to me.

-What else can you see?

-That bird there in the water.

-The black and white one?

-Yeah.

-Those are coots.

And they've got a white bit here and a white beak.

What have we got in here?

The London Zoo!

-The zoo's here?

-Yeah!

Oh, amazing. Let's see if we can see inside, then.

Can you smell anything, Luca?

What can you smell?

Oh, look at his nose going. Rory, look!

The parrot! Look, there in the bird cage!

I see them! Look, there they are!

They are beautiful, macaws.

They are lovely.

-Look over here!

-Oh!

-The camel cage!

I can see a head poking out.

Look!

-Do you think he can smell the camels?

-Yeah. Ew!

-Oh!

Can you imagine how bad that smell is for Luca,

if he's got a really good sense of smell?

-Yeah.

-That must be stinky.

I never thought we were going to come to the park and see camels.

Look, this is the tiger cage, Rory!

-Tiger!

-I just saw a tiger!

-Where was it?

-In there.

-At the fence?

-Yeah!

-Those are beautiful stripes.

Wow, that was awesome.

And this view is incredible, isn't it, Ryan?

-Yes.

-Look at that!

Luca did very well sniffing out all those animals.
