Today, I'm in Castlewellan in Northern Ireland

to meet Eva and her pet goats.

She's my favourite.

They are British Saanens.

What are they very good for?

-Milking.

We bring them to the shows.

I bet they win lots of awards.

Eva, what age is Roxie?

Roxie is five months old.

That's still quite young, isn't it?

-Yes.

-And can you tell me what a baby goat is called?

A kid, like me.

That's right. Baby goats are called kids,

female goats are called nannies and males are billies.

I love their white coats.

They are so soft.

-I really like their ears because they're floppy.

Can you tell me what a goat's foot is called?

They are called hooves and they have two toes.

That is right. They're really good for climbing, aren't they?

I like to see them jumping and being silly.

about Roxie and her goat friends here?

Of course, Ferne.

Saanen goats are sometimes called gentle giants

because they can grow up to be very big goats.

The Saanen breed is the largest breed of Swiss goat.

They have white skin and a short white coat.

The Saanen goat is a dairy goat, which means they make lots of milk.

You can drink goats' milk and it can be used

to make lots of food, like cheese.

Having a pet means that you have to give it a lot of love,

care and attention and pet goats can be pretty hard work,

-Yes, I look after them every day.

What do you need to do to look after your pet goats?

We need to give them water, food and hay and we need to muck them out.

That sounds like a lot of work.

It's very important for goats to have both outdoor and indoor areas,

like this pen.

Saanen goats have very pale skin so it's good that they have shade

when it's sunny so they don't get sunburned.

What do we need to do next?

We need to give them hay, food and water.

Daddy's putting the clusters onto Alice.

Wow, look at all the milk going through.

Saanen goats are brilliant dairy goats

which means that they make loads of milk.

Look at them go. I can't get over how much milk there is.

You can just feel it and it's warm.

Is it warm? Oh, my goodness, it is.

Shall we take it to the kids?

-Yes.

-They're going to love this.

Milk time.

Move over.

Look at this. Because these kids are a bit older,

they don't need milk from their mothers any more,

but it's nice to give it to them as a treat sometimes.

-They really are hungry.

-Yes, they are.

-But we still have one more thing to do. What is it?

-Wash our hands.

We're so lucky it's not raining,

because Roxie's loving being outside, isn't she?

She loves her food.

She does. Eva, if Roxie and the goats could do absolutely anything,

what would they do?

If my pet goats could do anything,

they would be Irish dancers.

They would enter a big competition

and wear white dresses with gold sparkles.

All the other goat friends would love their dances

and give them really high scores.

They would win a really big trophy.

Sometimes, goats need to be washed and brushed to keep their coats nice

and clean and healthy.

Do you like brushing Roxie?

-Yes.

-She's very soft, isn't she?

And do you brush all of your goats?

Yes, I brush them before shows so their coats are shiny and soft.

And your goats do lots of shows, don't they?

Yes, I'm going to do a show for you today and you can be the judge.

That sounds like so much fun.

I think Roxie is looking brushed and ready. Should we go to the show?

-Yeah.

Eva goes to lots of agricultural goat shows

and I can't wait to be a judge

at the show she's putting on for me today.

Our first obstacle is a tricky one.

The cans.

So, competitors have to weave their goats in and around the cans,

being really careful not to knock them over.

Straight from the cans,

you go on to the big climb and that's where goats have to be really

steady with perfect balance

to climb up all the way onto this hay bale and do

a big jump off to the last area, which is the judging area.

So I'm going to stand here and I'm going to inspect the goats to see if

they have lovely clean noses, bright eyes, good strong backs, shiny,

soft coats and good hooves.

It's going to be so exciting and we're ready for Eva and Roxie.

Perfect start, well done.

Great job around the cans. You didn't even hit one.

Big climb. This is really tough for such a young goat.

Remember, she's only five months old.

She definitely deserves a bit of a nibble at the end, doesn't she?
