Today, we're in wonderful Windsor to meet Marta and her pet dog.

I love dogs, so I can't wait to meet them.

Marta, who is this little bundle of fun?

Ginger.

Wow, I love Ginger!

What sort of dog is Ginger?

-A pug.

-Of course she is!

You can tell with this lovely squishy face... Hi!

..this curly tail, and all this energy. How old is she?

-Nearly two.

-Oh, wow. Still quite young, then?

-Yeah.

So, Marta, I've heard that your dog

understands another language.

-Is that true?

-Mm-hm.

-What is it?

Italian.

I've never met a dog that knows two languages. This is amazing!

-So can you show us some commands in Italian?

-Yeah.

What have you got there?

-Dog treats.

-Oh, perfect.

Right, let's pop Ginger down.

Getting very excited already.

That means, "Sit down."

-Will you give her a treat?

Marta, what do you love most about Ginger?

Well, I love that she's a very good dog,

and she's like a sister for me,

and she gives me loads of cuddles.

Aw, that's lovely!

And actually, pugs were originally bred as companion dogs,

which means they love spending time with people.

Pugs can be very friendly, and clever as well.

Fern, can you give us some facts about pugs

-just like our little friend Ginger, here?

-Of course, Rory.

A group of pugs is called a grumble.

They can be black or fawn in colour,

and even apricot or silver,

and their nose and mouth are always black.

Some pugs have really curly tails,

but other pugs have no curl at all.

Pugs can make great pets because they're so full of personality,

but with all that energy,

they need lots of space so they can run around.

Marta, how do you look after Ginger?

Well, we give her food and water.

Both of those are very important.

-So shall we do that now?

-Yeah.

-Food.

So how often do you feed Ginger?

Two times a day.

Usually, I give her one...

-..and another half.

So, what else do you do to look after Ginger?

We give her exercise.

That's right, that's very important.

Playing with your dog is good because it gives them exercise,

and also because it helps build a great friendship with them.

What do you like to play with Ginger?

Run around with her chewy toy.

-Oh, is that her favourite toy?

-Mm-hm.

-Shall we go and find it?

-Yeah.

Now that Ginger's had a rest after eating, let's play!

What is Ginger's favourite thing to do after she's had a nice bath?

-Lie on her pink cushion.

And she's definitely due a rest.

If Ginger was to fall asleep on her favourite pink cushion

and dream of doing anything, what do you think she'd do?

If my pet could do anything,

she would be a magical flying pug...

..wearing multicoloured wings.

Her job would be to collect rainbows,

and put them into her sparkly pink bag.

She'd be a very happy pug.

So Ginger's been fed, we've given her some water,

she's had a nice play, and she's had a wash as well.

It's just as well I brought my party clothes.
