Today, I'm in Derby to meet sisters Charis and Manita and their pet cat.

I just love cats. Come on.

Now, I heard that you have a really special cat

-that I would just love to meet.

So, girls, this is your cat.

-She's beautiful.

-What's her name?

-Olives.

-Olives.

-That's a fantastic name.

What type of cat is Olives?

BOTH: A Siamese.

-That's a very special type of cat, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

-What's something special about Olives?

-She loves cuddles.

-She looks very cuddly, doesn't she?

-Yeah. Yeah.

She's so cute. Siamese cats are very affectionate,

and they love to curl up and have a cuddle.

They also love company and you can often see them following

you around the house. They're very cheeky.

What else is special about Olives?

She's got blue eyes.

And they are beautiful blue eyes, aren't they?

-Yeah.

-All Siamese cats have blue eyes, just like Olives.

And they're stunning. So how old is she?

-Seven.

-That's still quite young, isn't it?

-Yeah.

Hello, Olives. So, so soft.

What is Olives's favourite thing to do?

-Curl up and watch us play.

-Does she sit and watch you play? Is she nosy?

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

-Cos Siamese cats are very intelligent.

Does Olives sleep a lot?

-Yeah. Yeah.

-Some cats can sleep most of the day,

which is a lot longer than us, isn't it?

They love having a good sleep.

Rory, can you tell us some more facts

about our purr-fect new friend here?

Yes, of course, Ferne.

One - Siamese cats tend to have darker fur on their ears, faces,

tails and legs.

And this is called pointed.

Two - young Siamese cats are mainly white in colour

and their pointed fur only gets darker as they get older.

-Three - Siamese cats love to talk, especially to their owners.

-Meow!

And when they want your attention, they make a very loud yowl.

Yooowwweeow!

Four - the Siamese breed is known to be very playful and some like to run

around like they're kittens!

Five - Siamese cats tend to be great jumpers and love heights,

so they can often be found sitting up high on things.

Cats can make great pets,

but, just like all pets, they need lots of love,

-care and attention, don't they, girls?

-Yeah.

So what do we need to do to look after Olives?

Feed her, give her water, clean her litter tray and play with her.

-That's a long list, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-Can I help you out today?

-Yeah.

-So what is the first thing we need to do?

-Feed her.

That sounds good. And how often do you feed Olives?

-Morning and night-time.

-That's great.

And this is a measured amount of food for her, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-We have to be careful we don't give her too much.

Most cats like to eat small amounts of food at a time, but don't worry,

they'll always come back for a little nibble later.

-Is that what Olives does?

-Yeah.

-What type of food does Olives eat?

-Dry cat food.

Do you think that's tasty?

Some cats eat dry food, some eat wet food, and some even eat both.

But Olives is a fan of the dry food.

That's a perfect amount.

-Your mum measured that out for you this morning, didn't she?

-Yeah.

What else do we need to do for Olives?

-Give her water.

-That's really important.

Cats need to have access to lots of fresh water every day.

-They love a good drink, don't they?

-Yeah.

-OK.

-Shall I pour some into her water bowl?

-Yeah.

-That's enough.

-Yeah?

-Yeah.

-Perfect.

-So, shall we put this down?

-Yeah.

And what do we need to do next?

-Clean her litter tray.

-That sounds good.

So this is your litter tray.

It's great. A litter tray is where a pet cat goes to the toilet.

And cats are very clean animals.

They won't really use a litter tray unless it's cleaned regularly.

-Isn't that right?

-Yeah.

-Look, Ferne, she's not used it.

-I know! It's fantastic.

Thank you, Olives, no messy job for us. But if you do need to clean a

litter tray it's really important that you...

-Wash your hands.

-Exactly. Olives is one lucky cat.

She's got a nice clean litter tray.

She's got fresh food and fresh water. Low-five.

It's feeding time for Olives,

and she's coming downstairs for a nibble of her food.

Oh, she seems to be enjoying that.

Looks tasty.

Where is she off to now?

It must be playtime.

What's she doing under those chairs?

Oh, she's decided to come up for some lovely cuddles instead.

Oh, she loves a good tickle.

Well, she's been fed and cuddled and looks like a very happy cat.

Time for Olives to head back upstairs for a lovely snooze.

Oh, so, this is Olives's scratching post. It's great.

It's really important that pet cats have a scratching post

cos it keeps their claws in shape and it's also great for exercise.

-Charis, where do you think Olives is now?

-Sitting in the sun.

Some cats like Olives just love cuddles.

Charis, if Olives could do absolutely anything in the world,

what would she do?

If my pet could do anything...

she would fly on an aeroplane to France.

And then she would climb on top of the Eiffel Tower.

Then she would come back down.

She would be wearing a pink dress.

And carrying a nice velvet bag.

Olives is a really lucky cat to have the two of you to take care of her,

-isn't she?

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

-And cats like Olives just love playtime.

So I had an idea. How about we make her a nice feather toy?

-Yeah!

-Yeah!

-Do you think she'll like it?

-Yeah.

Olives is going to love this.

This is fun.

It is fun making cat toys.

But remember not to use anything too small that they could swallow.

It's really important that when you're playing with your cat

you don't make them cross or annoy them.

They'll usually let you know that they've had enough by walking away.

It's important to make time to play with your cat

to keep them entertained and happy, and afterwards, when they are done,

you can always give them a nice cuddle.
