Neighbourhood policing has come a long way since the days of Dixon Of Dock Green.

0:00:020:00:05

Good evening, all.

0:00:050:00:06

From inner-city estates to suburbia, this new

0:00:060:00:09

generation of community police officers are on the front line.

0:00:090:00:13

Their aim is to develop a stronger bond with the community,

0:00:150:00:18

crack down on the crimes taking place on your doorstep

0:00:180:00:21

and formulate fast-action plans to take down the criminals.

0:00:210:00:26

-I said no.

-I said yes.

0:00:260:00:27

In this new series of Neighbourhood Blues

0:00:280:00:31

we go to the Humberside police region

0:00:310:00:33

and get exclusive access to 12 teams of neighbourhood police officers

0:00:330:00:37

as they tackle the problems blighting local people...

0:00:370:00:40

-No, I don't care.

-Hey, hey!

0:00:400:00:42

..and rise to the challenge of making the streets a safer place.

0:00:450:00:49

Coming up...

0:01:130:01:14

As darkness falls, Cleethorpes' May Day bank holiday celebrations

0:01:140:01:18

take a turn for the worse...

0:01:180:01:19

SHOUTING

0:01:190:01:22

..a falling-out over the garden fence sees these two warring

0:01:220:01:26

neighbours go to court...

0:01:260:01:27

There's a pile of wood here. He just bulldozed it down.

0:01:270:01:30

-That is not on the deeds. It's a no-brainer.

-Right.

0:01:300:01:33

..and could these pint-sized Sherlocks really have witnessed a kidnapping?

0:01:330:01:37

Do you know the difference between the truth and lies?

0:01:370:01:41

All across Humberside, neighbourhood police teams take

0:01:460:01:49

time-out from regular police work to engage with the public.

0:01:490:01:53

The aim is not only to give policing a friendlier face,

0:01:530:01:56

but to also provide people with information about the causes

0:01:560:01:58

of crime and how to limit the chances of becoming a victim of it.

0:01:580:02:02

And it's an approach that has paid dividends.

0:02:020:02:05

In the olden days, you wouldn't have expected the police to get

0:02:080:02:11

involved in a dispute between neighbours,

0:02:110:02:14

but things have changed

0:02:140:02:15

and the neighbourhood teams have become well versed at mediating

0:02:150:02:18

when a slanging match develops across the garden fence.

0:02:180:02:21

I know friends of mine

0:02:210:02:22

who have got major problems sometimes with their neighbours.

0:02:220:02:25

If you live in a flat

0:02:250:02:27

and you've got some weirdo who is playing drugged-up heavy bass music

0:02:270:02:31

at four o'clock every morning, it's not a lot of fun,

0:02:310:02:34

really, not a lot of fun.

0:02:340:02:36

And I suppose the answer is to move, but it seems unfair.

0:02:360:02:40

Other neighbours I've had in the past have been slightly different,

0:02:400:02:45

where they go out of their way to be awkward,

0:02:450:02:48

and also domestic disputes.

0:02:480:02:50

The police having to deal with them, is, in my eyes, ridiculous,

0:02:500:02:53

because that shouldn't be something they should be involved in,

0:02:530:02:57

but if someone's getting hurt, then of course.

0:02:570:02:59

But I've seen police just having to go to people's houses cos of a disagreement that's heated.

0:02:590:03:03

-My neighbours are all right.

-I've got lovely neighbours. I can't complain. Lovely neighbours.

0:03:030:03:07

In fact, one of my neighbours is actually an ex-police officer.

0:03:070:03:10

Couldn't get any safer than that, can you?

0:03:100:03:13

Falling out with a neighbour can have major repercussions.

0:03:140:03:17

As well as causing much heartache, such fights can cost you dearly

0:03:170:03:21

and even make your house unsaleable.

0:03:210:03:24

Today, over in Bridlington, PC Nikki Cammis is en route to meet

0:03:260:03:30

a pair of neighbours who are at loggerheads.

0:03:300:03:33

A track that acts as a right of way to several properties,

0:03:340:03:38

including theirs, is also lined by a hedgerow and a fence.

0:03:380:03:42

The two men have fallen out about who can use the right of way

0:03:420:03:46

and exactly where the dividing line between their properties is.

0:03:460:03:50

So, trees, I've dealt with those sort of issues before.

0:03:510:03:54

I know a little bit about trees. Boundary lines... Way over my head.

0:03:540:04:00

The dispute has been going on for over two years.

0:04:000:04:04

-Hello.

-Hiya.

0:04:040:04:05

-Your dad is back, isn't he?

-Yes. He's just up there.

0:04:050:04:07

-I'll go and fetch him.

-Thanks.

0:04:070:04:09

It relates to an access road

0:04:090:04:10

and the boundary line between the properties.

0:04:100:04:13

Despite trying to resolve it through mediation, both parties

0:04:130:04:16

believe they are in the right

0:04:160:04:18

and the case is now going to court tomorrow.

0:04:180:04:20

Nikki is paying a them visit to see how they are bearing up.

0:04:200:04:24

I have come today from the neighbourhood team

0:04:240:04:26

in Bridlington to discuss with you the issue that you

0:04:260:04:28

have at the moment with your neighbours.

0:04:280:04:30

What I would like to know is, we now know the decision's coming

0:04:300:04:34

tomorrow, about time, I know you're confident you're going to win.

0:04:340:04:39

If you do happen to lose, what's going to be the consequence of that?

0:04:390:04:42

It's difficult to say how I can lose

0:04:420:04:45

because I've got the original certified documents,

0:04:450:04:48

the measurements add up to the boundary line.

0:04:480:04:51

Nothing that Mr Rhodes has got provides any...

0:04:510:04:55

The onus of proof is on him, because he's the claimant.

0:04:550:04:58

But he hasn't got any evidence.

0:04:580:05:00

He's jumped on a letter that's not a legally binding document.

0:05:000:05:04

And if the judge accepts the letter that he's built his case round,

0:05:040:05:09

-he actually loses land. He doesn't gain it.

-Right. If you lose...?

0:05:090:05:14

If I lose, then I'll get a substantial legal bill to pay

0:05:140:05:18

-because obviously they are going to want their costs paid.

-Right.

0:05:180:05:22

If I win, then it will stay as it is and it will be a garden

0:05:220:05:26

because that's all it is.

0:05:260:05:28

As tensions between the homes have escalated, both have taken to

0:05:280:05:34

installing CCTV cameras to monitor activity over the right of way

0:05:340:05:38

and boundary line which is in dispute.

0:05:380:05:41

But this brings with it a whole new set of legal problems

0:05:410:05:44

surrounding the issue of privacy.

0:05:440:05:46

-Obviously you've got two new cameras up on your building.

-Yes.

0:05:460:05:49

Again, they want to know where your cameras are facing, to offer reassurance...

0:05:490:05:53

I said I would offer them reassurance that they don't go onto their land.

0:05:530:05:56

-Camera can't go onto their land.

-His camera goes onto my land.

0:05:560:06:00

That's what the officer had been to see them about.

0:06:000:06:03

Yes, but it does. It points directly onto my road.

0:06:030:06:06

It's onto... Well, it's very similar...

0:06:060:06:08

It shows a garage there and it shows my road there.

0:06:080:06:11

But...

0:06:110:06:13

I know you're saying it's your road, but to them they have right of access...

0:06:130:06:17

-No.

-I know you believe that.

-No, it isn't. It's not on the deeds.

0:06:170:06:21

-I've got the documents. It's a no-brainer.

-Right.

0:06:210:06:24

I know for you, but until it is decided tomorrow...

0:06:240:06:26

-Until it is decided tomorrow...

-..they think differently.

-Well...

-OK?

0:06:260:06:30

If it turns out you win tomorrow and it's your land,

0:06:300:06:32

then I'll happily go back and check their CCTV

0:06:320:06:34

and make sure it doesn't cover your driveway, if it's yours.

0:06:340:06:37

I can't say fairer than that, can I?

0:06:370:06:40

Are you all right, Martin?

0:06:400:06:42

With Mr Walker left to ponder about the legalities of his CCTV set-up,

0:06:420:06:46

Nikki heads next door to pay the other neighbour, Mr Rhodes, a visit.

0:06:460:06:52

You are very confident you're going to win

0:06:520:06:53

and, believe you me, when I spoke to him,

0:06:530:06:56

he's not even thinking about losing.

0:06:560:06:58

It's not even an option in his mind.

0:06:580:07:00

All I can reiterate to you is, please don't take any matters

0:07:000:07:03

into your own hands and just think, a better person walks away,

0:07:030:07:07

-otherwise you're going to walk yourself straight into some trouble.

-Yeah.

0:07:070:07:11

It's clearly taking a strain on both parties,

0:07:110:07:14

who are convinced of their own right to access the driveway

0:07:140:07:17

and manipulate the boundary line as they see fit.

0:07:170:07:20

He has bought the plot of land. Since he's moved in two years ago,

0:07:200:07:23

it's been one thing after another.

0:07:230:07:25

There was a nice full hedge. He's hacked it right back.

0:07:250:07:28

This is my fence that he knocked down.

0:07:280:07:30

It was fenced off all the way down here.

0:07:300:07:33

His pal, he just bulldozed it down. And I think there

0:07:330:07:36

was about six of them altogether came one day and just bulldozed it down.

0:07:360:07:39

These are the trees that he's chopped down.

0:07:390:07:41

One there, one there, they're just stumps now.

0:07:410:07:44

It's a shared access lane and he's just blocked it all.

0:07:440:07:47

Mr Rhodes believes that the fallout from the dispute over the

0:07:470:07:50

right of way in particular is also affecting other homes in the area.

0:07:500:07:54

This is 101 here's main access.

0:07:540:07:58

He's put that wire fence across, he's put the boat there.

0:07:580:08:01

Anybody that comes up here, they've been abused by him.

0:08:010:08:05

I haven't been able to use it for the last year or two

0:08:050:08:09

because he would scare you.

0:08:090:08:12

Neighbourhood disputes often begin over minor misunderstandings,

0:08:120:08:17

but this one has escalated to a point where only

0:08:170:08:20

a court of law can bring any closure to the two men who are both

0:08:200:08:23

adamant that they are in the right.

0:08:230:08:26

When we first came, the hedge came out to beyond my car

0:08:260:08:28

right at the bottom.

0:08:280:08:30

If you look at that, there's no growth at this side whatsoever.

0:08:300:08:34

So he tried to simulate that the centre of the hedge was

0:08:340:08:38

further over than what it actually was, but I've pipped him at the post

0:08:380:08:43

by cutting the hedge back. That's when he started...

0:08:430:08:46

That's when the argument first started and I said

0:08:460:08:48

I'm quite within my right to chop down my side of the boundary hedge.

0:08:480:08:52

The fencing were here, at this side here.

0:08:520:08:55

So you can see naturally that it juts out

0:08:550:08:59

nearly three foot into the road.

0:08:590:09:00

This line is a straight line,

0:09:000:09:03

not a dogleg.

0:09:030:09:05

As is often the case with neighbourhood disputes,

0:09:050:09:08

the initial problem can lead to a larger falling out

0:09:080:09:12

and further accusations being made.

0:09:120:09:14

If we pass each other at the bottom, he'll pull up

0:09:140:09:18

and just stare at the wife, or stare at me, and anybody that is

0:09:180:09:22

coming to the house. He's just sat glaring at you, intimidating you.

0:09:220:09:26

The day that we put this fence up,

0:09:260:09:28

that night she turned her lights off, he turned his off,

0:09:280:09:31

it were all...

0:09:310:09:32

When he was grinning at me, he was taking pictures, so I waved at him.

0:09:320:09:36

And the next day, police came up, he told them that I'd stuck two fingers

0:09:360:09:40

up at him and shouting and bawling at him.

0:09:400:09:43

There were these two or three almighty bangs and it were him.

0:09:430:09:46

With emotions running this high, the neighbourhood team

0:09:460:09:49

are keen for this neighbourhood dispute to be brought to

0:09:490:09:52

a swift end that can enable both parties to move on from this

0:09:520:09:56

unfortunate set of incidents that have blighted them.

0:09:560:09:59

Both men remain in a confident mood.

0:09:590:10:02

There is no way round it.

0:10:020:10:03

It's written in the deeds

0:10:030:10:05

and that's where the saying comes from, "in deed".

0:10:050:10:08

-So, 11 o'clock tomorrow, hopefully.

-See you later.

0:10:080:10:12

For Nikki, the court ruling will at last provide a clear

0:10:120:10:16

focus for the police, should any further falling out arise.

0:10:160:10:19

It's a nightmare. It's a nightmare. It's a headache. It's a nightmare.

0:10:190:10:23

And I don't know who the land belongs to, either,

0:10:230:10:26

but once that's decided by the judge then I'll be able to manage it better

0:10:260:10:30

because it will be a case of, "It's not your land,

0:10:300:10:32

"now get on with it, get on with your lives."

0:10:320:10:34

Find out later which man wins this battle of the boundary line.

0:10:340:10:38

So-called legal highs have been making headlines.

0:10:450:10:49

Many of these lab-manufactured powders aim to simulate

0:10:500:10:54

the effect of drugs such as ecstasy.

0:10:540:10:57

Whilst they may not be banned,

0:10:570:10:59

many of these uncontrolled substances are toxic.

0:10:590:11:02

Legal highs are a big problem, not just in our city,

0:11:020:11:07

throughout the country.

0:11:070:11:08

And one of the big challenges with dealing with them

0:11:080:11:11

is that their composition can be altered chemically

0:11:110:11:17

ever so slightly, and what happens is that governments are always playing

0:11:170:11:22

catch-up if they try and actually classify them as illegal.

0:11:220:11:27

So people can get round that.

0:11:270:11:29

And the use of them to get a quick fix can be devastating.

0:11:290:11:33

I think it's £5 a bag for a legal high

0:11:350:11:37

and by the end of it, you end up in hospital.

0:11:370:11:40

I think there should definitely be an age limit where you've got to

0:11:400:11:43

be at least maybe 20, or over 20, to buy these drugs, because people,

0:11:430:11:48

15-year-olds, are buying them,

0:11:480:11:49

and they're really hurting themselves from them

0:11:490:11:52

because they don't know the effects of it.

0:11:520:11:54

Over 60 people died in the UK last year alone.

0:11:540:11:57

Many more suffered kidney, liver and brain damage,

0:11:570:12:00

all as a result of legal highs.

0:12:000:12:03

Dealing with the dangerous effects these substances

0:12:030:12:05

have on people is a problem the neighbourhood team are now

0:12:050:12:08

confronting on the streets on a daily basis.

0:12:080:12:11

Today, in Hull city centre, a man has been spotted banging his head

0:12:110:12:14

repeatedly in a telephone box.

0:12:140:12:17

PCSO John Hamilton is concerned that drugs may be involved.

0:12:170:12:21

What is that on there?

0:12:210:12:24

-What's this?

-It's a legal high.

-It's a legal high, is it?

-Yes.

0:12:240:12:29

Right, leave that there for now. Don't touch anything more.

0:12:290:12:33

Just come out of the telephone box for me.

0:12:330:12:35

So, that stuff in there, you say it's a legal high, is it?

0:12:390:12:43

-Yeah.

-What is it?

0:12:430:12:45

What's it called?

0:12:450:12:47

HE MUMBLES

0:12:470:12:49

-You what?

-Zappy.

-Zappy?

0:12:490:12:51

Where did you buy that from?

0:12:520:12:54

Can you remember?

0:12:590:13:00

The man suddenly becomes totally unresponsive.

0:13:000:13:04

John radios in the situation.

0:13:040:13:06

There is white powder all set out with stuff for snorting.

0:13:060:13:10

I feel...

0:13:100:13:12

I feel like a... I feel like a supernatural being.

0:13:120:13:16

When the man does speak he is garbled and disorientated.

0:13:160:13:20

-It's the drugs that are talking.

-Is it?

-Yes.

0:13:200:13:23

I can't believe I'm... I can't believe I'm still standing.

0:13:230:13:27

I don't think I can get higher than this because I am

0:13:270:13:30

so high I could go out for ever.

0:13:300:13:32

HIS SPEECH SLOWS AND SLURS

0:13:320:13:39

I feel like a supernatural being. I'm feel like I'm dead.

0:13:390:13:42

My colleagues have just turned up now

0:13:420:13:45

and they will have a quick word with you as well.

0:13:450:13:48

John is waiting for backup to deal with the situation.

0:13:480:13:52

You've got some legal highs with you, or something, have you?

0:13:520:13:55

The man surrenders the substances to the police.

0:13:550:13:59

The police decide to take him home to prevent him

0:13:590:14:02

becoming a danger to himself.

0:14:020:14:04

You can't stay here taking them

0:14:040:14:07

because people are going to continue to ring us, aren't they?

0:14:070:14:10

It's going to continue to make you do strange things.

0:14:100:14:13

Fortunately, on this occasion, there were no serious consequences,

0:14:160:14:20

but anyone taking legal highs is playing a risky roulette game

0:14:200:14:24

whose outcome can be fatal.

0:14:240:14:26

The drug he was taking is actually classified legal.

0:14:320:14:36

However, it does state all over the packaging that it's not fit for human consumption.

0:14:360:14:41

A lot of these legal highs are designed to be plant food,

0:14:410:14:46

fertilisers, scents to be burnt, but people take them,

0:14:460:14:51

which makes them do unusual, strange things, and it is very dangerous.

0:14:510:14:57

The man was offered some help

0:14:570:14:59

and support services to deal with his problem,

0:14:590:15:02

but find out later what happens when the neighbourhood team go to

0:15:020:15:06

a local college to give students a wake-up call

0:15:060:15:08

about the dangers of legal highs.

0:15:080:15:11

Maintaining law and order remains part of the remit of all

0:15:180:15:22

neighbourhood police teams.

0:15:220:15:24

Ensuring that communities are safe

0:15:240:15:26

and crime free is always top of their agenda.

0:15:260:15:29

And when high spirits run the risk of getting out of hand,

0:15:290:15:32

the team are always fast to react.

0:15:320:15:34

All across the country, a bank holiday is a time to kick back

0:15:360:15:39

and relax for millions of hardworking families.

0:15:390:15:42

And when the sun's out,

0:15:420:15:44

where better to head than for a day out by the seaside?

0:15:440:15:47

And today, the crowds are flocking to the popular

0:15:470:15:50

towns of Cleethorpes and Grimsby.

0:15:500:15:53

Whilst the daytime has been uneventful, as night falls,

0:15:530:15:56

many of the crowds remain,

0:15:560:15:58

looking to enjoy the delights that the local pubs have to offer.

0:15:580:16:03

You see a lot of drunks going up and down the high street here.

0:16:030:16:06

I just try and have a laugh over it,

0:16:060:16:08

but I know it's a bit of a serious problem.

0:16:080:16:11

Very uncomfortable walking through a city centre after midnight.

0:16:110:16:15

There are so many drunks about...

0:16:150:16:17

You know, you just don't feel comfortable.

0:16:170:16:19

There's always gangs of people, loud, shouting,

0:16:190:16:22

you just don't know where you are.

0:16:220:16:24

I would definitely not walk through the city centre at night...

0:16:240:16:28

and I don't.

0:16:280:16:30

You used to see a lot more people drinking on the streets.

0:16:300:16:33

You still see...

0:16:330:16:35

some people carrying cans around and maybe drinking,

0:16:350:16:39

but it's not as noticeable as it was.

0:16:390:16:41

If they're drunk and happy, and they're not being...

0:16:410:16:44

Yeah, if they're really drunk, sat on the street, puking up,

0:16:440:16:47

I don't think they should be arrested.

0:16:470:16:49

I don't think that. I think they should maybe be taken home...

0:16:490:16:51

Yea, definitely. And maybe given a warning, saying,

0:16:510:16:54

"If we find you like this again then we are going to do

0:16:540:16:56

-"something about it."

-But I think just...

0:16:560:16:58

arresting people just like that is a bit...

0:16:580:17:01

It's nice to give people a chance.

0:17:010:17:03

But where alcohol is concerned, a good time can very easily turn bad.

0:17:030:17:08

Simon and Wendy are two of a team of 20 officers drafted in to

0:17:080:17:12

make sure the bank holiday's evening celebrations don't get out of hand.

0:17:120:17:17

Because it's still early, only 7.15, just having a drive around the main

0:17:170:17:22

areas where all the pubs are in Cleethorpes,

0:17:220:17:25

just to see if anywhere's particularly busy. Erm...

0:17:250:17:31

And then, later on, we can sort of deploy the staff accordingly.

0:17:310:17:35

These pubs are usually quite busy, along here, in Cleethorpes.

0:17:350:17:38

Quite a lot of people in there as well.

0:17:380:17:40

It's early May bank holiday, so...

0:17:420:17:44

generally...

0:17:440:17:46

the pubs and clubs are quite busy on the Sunday

0:17:460:17:49

cos nobody's at work tomorrow.

0:17:490:17:51

So people make quite a long weekend of it and go out drinking tonight.

0:17:510:17:54

Yeah, we'll just have a walk, I think,

0:17:560:17:58

and see how busy places are before we go in for a briefing.

0:17:580:18:01

A quick tour of the main drinking holes gives them

0:18:040:18:07

an overview of the mood in town.

0:18:070:18:10

How have things been today? All right?

0:18:100:18:12

Right, have a good night, mate.

0:18:120:18:13

-Don't have too much more tonight, though.

-No, I won't...

-Good man.

0:18:130:18:17

Mate, take it easy. See you later, mate. See you.

0:18:170:18:21

Everyone seems in quite good spirits, really.

0:18:210:18:23

I would imagine quite a lot of those people will be going home quite soon.

0:18:230:18:26

I think they've had enough already.

0:18:260:18:28

It's now back to the station for a quick brew and a briefing,

0:18:290:18:33

before the team of 20 hit the town centres to patrol

0:18:330:18:36

the pubs as darkness falls.

0:18:360:18:38

Right...

0:18:380:18:40

Welcome, everyone. Most of town are quite well oiled.

0:18:400:18:42

They've obviously been out watching the football all afternoon.

0:18:420:18:46

Grimsby Town have lost in the semifinal of the playoffs,

0:18:460:18:49

if anybody didn't know that, which means,

0:18:490:18:52

obviously, tempers might be a bit higher than usual.

0:18:520:18:55

With the officers briefed, they split off into two teams of ten.

0:18:550:19:01

As well as their local knowledge,

0:19:010:19:02

they're also armed with another very useful policing tool tonight.

0:19:020:19:06

Basically, what these are, they're a red card

0:19:060:19:09

and they're issued to a person if they're given a Section 27 notice.

0:19:090:19:14

A Section 27 notice is issued to any person who we believe may be

0:19:140:19:18

involved in drink-related disorder,

0:19:180:19:21

either at the time or later on, so we can give them

0:19:210:19:23

a direction to leave a specified area for a period of 48 hours.

0:19:230:19:27

As the teams set off in convoy, they're not even out

0:19:280:19:32

of the station when their first call for help comes in over the radio.

0:19:320:19:36

There's been a call from some door staff in the marketplace

0:19:360:19:40

in Cleethorpes.

0:19:400:19:42

They've detained a male who's thrown a brick at a window...

0:19:420:19:46

of a premises called the Fiddler,

0:19:460:19:47

and the door staff have detained him just round the corner.

0:19:470:19:50

Arriving on the scene, they're greeted by the pub landlord.

0:19:540:19:57

The suspect is already in cuffs.

0:19:570:20:00

Why have I been arrested?

0:20:000:20:01

Wey! Muppet!

0:20:060:20:09

Do your thing, man.

0:20:090:20:10

Yo, do your thing.

0:20:110:20:13

As the police piece together what happened,

0:20:130:20:16

the suspect does himself few favours by hurling abuse at them.

0:20:160:20:20

-Go

-BLEEP

-your mum, you

-BLEEP.

0:20:200:20:22

-Go

-BLEEP

-you mother.

0:20:220:20:25

With the suspect carted off into custody...

0:20:250:20:28

..the police investigate the scene of the crime.

0:20:310:20:35

-Which window is it?

-It's not a window, it's that.

0:20:350:20:37

-Oh, right, OK.

-And then that bit of wood's...

0:20:370:20:40

The landlord describes how the attack unfolded.

0:20:400:20:43

The gentleman was asked to leave the premises

0:20:430:20:45

because he'd actually put two pool balls in his pocket,

0:20:450:20:48

I took the pool balls off him, he was asked to leave, he left.

0:20:480:20:51

And when he left, he went off, come back,

0:20:510:20:55

picked a brick up and lobbed it at the door.

0:20:550:20:58

And the unruly incident has left more than

0:20:580:21:01

a few of the regulars shaken by what's happened.

0:21:010:21:03

To be honest with you, it was a bit scary because, like I say,

0:21:030:21:06

the restaurant bit's been open all afternoon,

0:21:060:21:08

and if there was a bystander sat in there, it would have gone through,

0:21:080:21:11

it would have hit the bystander.

0:21:110:21:13

The town is monitored by a network of CCTV cameras and a call is

0:21:130:21:18

put in by Simon to find out if the suspect was caught in the act.

0:21:180:21:22

Confirm it has been captured or hasn't.

0:21:220:21:25

Ah, excellent.

0:21:280:21:31

We'll make some enquiries with them and get the footage off them.

0:21:310:21:34

The team are in luck. The whole incident was filmed,

0:21:340:21:37

and the CCTV team have managed to locate the footage,

0:21:370:21:41

making for a useful piece of evidence in court.

0:21:410:21:43

With once incident attended to, the team move on with their patrol,

0:21:450:21:49

but find out later what happens

0:21:490:21:51

when drink gets the better of one group of lads...

0:21:510:21:54

..and leads to a violent assault.

0:21:570:21:59

It's been a quiet day for the team

0:22:060:22:08

until a 999 call comes through from worried witnesses,

0:22:080:22:11

concerned they've glimpsed a potential kidnapping in process.

0:22:110:22:15

Nikki Cammis is the first officer on the scene,

0:22:150:22:18

but she gets a surprise when she sees the witnesses.

0:22:180:22:21

There's a woman in the front and she had taped hands.

0:22:210:22:25

-How old was the woman?

-Maybe late 30s.

0:22:250:22:29

What did she look like?

0:22:290:22:31

-She had dark hair.

-Dark brown.

0:22:310:22:34

Like your colour hair.

0:22:340:22:37

They're describing...

0:22:370:22:39

Nikki phones in the suspect's details

0:22:390:22:41

to avoid losing precious time.

0:22:410:22:43

This van's passed them towards B&Q and the vehicle's passed them

0:22:430:22:47

in the opposite direction.

0:22:470:22:48

So they were heading that way, out of town?

0:22:480:22:51

They were going over the B&Q bridge, so I presume...

0:22:510:22:54

THEY TALK OVER EACH OTHER

0:22:540:22:56

A potential breakthrough's on the cards

0:22:560:22:58

when it appears the young lad recognises the van.

0:22:580:23:02

-And then...

-THEY TALK OVER EACH OTHER

0:23:020:23:06

But is this clue too good to be true?

0:23:060:23:10

-You're confident?

-I'm certain it was him.

0:23:100:23:14

One of these kids is saying that they recognise this van.

0:23:140:23:17

The station sergeant wonders if they kids are winding the police up.

0:23:170:23:21

Should their story be taken with a pinch of salt?

0:23:210:23:24

Or is there a grain of truth to it? Nikki presses harder.

0:23:240:23:28

Why do you think it's a woman who lives near you?

0:23:280:23:31

Cos it was the same...

0:23:310:23:33

Undaunted, the lad sticks to his guns.

0:23:330:23:36

-He is convinced about what he saw.

-I've seen that person as well.

0:23:360:23:39

Nikki's now increasingly confident that this lad's no Pinocchio.

0:23:390:23:44

-You can go home now.

-Are we all right?

0:23:440:23:46

Basically, we've had a call from the kids that we've just seen,

0:23:460:23:49

stating that as they've been walking over that hill,

0:23:490:23:52

a little blue van's gone past them

0:23:520:23:55

and inside they've seen a young female, mid-30s,

0:23:550:23:58

that's been tied up with tape across the mouth,

0:23:580:24:01

and the male driver shouting at her.

0:24:010:24:04

Erm... One of the kids thinks it's a vehicle he recognises that

0:24:040:24:08

lives on his local street, so we're heading there now.

0:24:080:24:11

Two other police units have been dispatched

0:24:110:24:14

and have already recced the situation. Nobody's home.

0:24:140:24:18

The blue van is parked and nothing seems amiss,

0:24:190:24:22

but it turns out there is a second blue van registered to the suspect.

0:24:220:24:27

1-5, I'm sat outside and there is a blue vehicle on the drive

0:24:270:24:30

matching the description.

0:24:300:24:31

However, the other patrol that tried to get in is wanting to tell you

0:24:310:24:34

that this vehicle is cold,

0:24:340:24:35

and then a neighbour's told us that he's got two blue vehicles.

0:24:350:24:38

The one we think we're looking for is not here.

0:24:380:24:40

Nikki calls the children back to test their story again.

0:24:400:24:43

You said you saw her hands, but she was obviously in the vehicle

0:24:430:24:46

and you were walking, so how did you see her hands?

0:24:460:24:50

How were you able to see her hands?

0:24:500:24:51

Where are you now?

0:24:530:24:55

And I'm coming back to speak to you.

0:24:550:24:58

Wait there for me, I'm coming. Bye.

0:24:580:25:01

Nikki is hoping that, by talking to the children again,

0:25:010:25:03

she may get to the bottom of this mystery.

0:25:030:25:06

It's not really a case about getting more details -

0:25:060:25:09

it's more about clarifying some points with them...

0:25:090:25:11

that the sergeant wants clarifying.

0:25:110:25:13

The sergeant has doubts or...

0:25:130:25:16

We have to suppose every avenue, I suppose.

0:25:160:25:18

And one of these avenues is, are these children lying

0:25:180:25:21

and have they made it up?

0:25:210:25:23

But despite being given a tough line of questioning by Nikki...

0:25:230:25:27

Do you know the difference between truth and lies?

0:25:270:25:29

..they will not change their story.

0:25:290:25:31

If I said there was an elephant in that parking space behind me,

0:25:310:25:34

-what would I have just done? ALL:

-Lied.

-Yeah.

0:25:340:25:36

And what do you think happens when people lie?

0:25:360:25:39

Why do you think people lie?

0:25:410:25:43

-Yeah?

-For attention.

-Sometimes, yeah.

0:25:430:25:47

OK.

0:25:470:25:48

So it's really important, then, that you tell me the truth.

0:25:480:25:53

We are telling the truth. I swear.

0:25:530:25:55

Either's there a major incident happening

0:25:550:25:57

or a hoax is now causing mayhem.

0:25:570:25:59

Either way, it's a serious matter.

0:25:590:26:01

We were all thinking it might be for a joke,

0:26:010:26:03

but if that's a joke, it's a really sick joke to pull.

0:26:030:26:06

But from my point of view, a vehicle's passing you,

0:26:060:26:09

takes a couple of seconds to pass. From what you're telling me,

0:26:090:26:13

you've seen a lot of stuff in that couple of seconds,

0:26:130:26:17

-which is fine if that's what you've seen.

-She just...

0:26:170:26:20

There's no camouflaging the children's distress,

0:26:200:26:23

and their story seems watertight.

0:26:230:26:26

We just saw her taped up, panicking really badly...

0:26:260:26:29

-And him shouting.

-Like, that's... That's the basic...

0:26:290:26:34

That's what we saw.

0:26:340:26:36

I've honestly got four upset kids here.

0:26:360:26:40

I get you've seen the other side, but they really are upset.

0:26:400:26:44

Then a call comes through.

0:26:440:26:47

Other officers have finally spoken to the van owner.

0:26:470:26:51

Guys, listen, I'm so sorry you've had to experience this,

0:26:510:26:54

but the officers have spoken to the people in the van

0:26:540:26:56

and they're saying it was a practical joke.

0:26:560:26:59

She tied him to the steering wheel or something earlier on...

0:26:590:27:02

It's not funny, darling,

0:27:020:27:03

and I'm going to go back up and speak with them,

0:27:030:27:05

and explain just how upset you actually are.

0:27:050:27:08

Cos the officers that have spoken with them didn't realise...

0:27:080:27:11

-So it was the right person?

-Yeah. Yeah, it was right, darling.

0:27:110:27:15

Not surprisingly, the comedy is lost on Nikki and the children.

0:27:150:27:19

I'm going to go back up now and tell them off, and explain to them just...

0:27:190:27:23

I expect better from adults.

0:27:230:27:24

I know, but everybody would have seen it and stuff, so I don't...

0:27:240:27:27

And please don't think that I was doubting you,

0:27:270:27:29

but it's my job to doubt people.

0:27:290:27:31

And you did the right thing to ring it in, all right?

0:27:310:27:34

And, unfortunately, there is stupid adults around

0:27:340:27:37

that haven't got anything better to do.

0:27:370:27:39

-That all right, everyone? See you later.

-Bye.

0:27:390:27:43

The children may be vindicated,

0:27:440:27:46

but Nikki's not finished with the matter.

0:27:460:27:48

She's got the pranksters in her sights now.

0:27:480:27:51

Hiya, it's just the police.

0:27:520:27:54

Can I ask if we can have a quick chat

0:27:540:27:57

-about what's just happened?

-Yeah.

-Thank you.

0:27:570:27:59

They're clearly a pair of jokers - that's the only way to put it.

0:27:590:28:02

They're just a pair of jokers and they still see the funny side.

0:28:020:28:04

And as much as she's also got a ten-year-old herself

0:28:040:28:07

and she understands how children may have perceived the incident,

0:28:070:28:10

she thinks that people should be allowed to have a laugh,

0:28:100:28:12

and that's fine. But it's not every day you go

0:28:120:28:15

and pass somebody that's got masking tape around their mouth.

0:28:150:28:18

We're going to deal with this

0:28:180:28:19

as what we call a community resolution.

0:28:190:28:21

I'm going to bring the children up next week

0:28:210:28:23

and they can apologise to them cos they caused them genuine fear...

0:28:230:28:27

for no need at all. Just for the... For their own fun.

0:28:270:28:30

So now they can say sorry.

0:28:300:28:31

The children involved in reporting the suspected kidnapping

0:28:330:28:37

were congratulated by the police for their clear and concise

0:28:370:28:40

approach to describing what could have been a serious crime.

0:28:400:28:44

As people start living in more densely populated areas,

0:28:500:28:53

the police find themselves dealing with an increased number of complaints.

0:28:530:28:57

Some of these problems arise when neighbours fail to get along

0:28:570:29:00

and find themselves in a dispute that only the law can now resolve.

0:29:000:29:04

Over in Bridlington, PC Nikki Cammis has been involved with two

0:29:050:29:09

neighbours who have literally had a falling out over the garden fence.

0:29:090:29:13

It's difficult to say how I can lose.

0:29:130:29:15

A dispute over a boundary line

0:29:150:29:17

and a right of way has lasted over two years

0:29:170:29:20

and has generated numerous headaches for the parties involved.

0:29:200:29:23

He's bought the plot of land. Since he moved in two years ago,

0:29:230:29:26

it's been one thing after another.

0:29:260:29:28

Mr Rhodes and Mr Walker.

0:29:280:29:31

Despite the police trying to mediate between the two men,

0:29:340:29:37

the case has now ended up in court.

0:29:370:29:40

But will the judge fall on the side of Mr Rhodes or Mr Walker?

0:29:400:29:44

We're about to find out.

0:29:440:29:46

Won on all accounts.

0:29:490:29:51

Mr Rhodes' thumbs-up says it all...

0:29:510:29:53

and his relief is evident.

0:29:530:29:56

Well, I'm very pleased with how it all went,

0:29:560:29:58

and Mr Walker was shown, once again, what sort of person he is.

0:29:580:30:02

Mr Walker is understandably downbeat at the ruling

0:30:020:30:05

and at the expensive legal costs he will now face.

0:30:050:30:08

And I think, well, really, the judge has ignored all the major things

0:30:080:30:13

and he's just given 1½ foot of our land away.

0:30:130:30:17

Mr Rhodes has an emotional statement to make.

0:30:170:30:20

I'd like to thank my family and friends...

0:30:210:30:23

HE SOBS

0:30:230:30:26

..and my solicitors for their help and support they have given me.

0:30:260:30:31

And for the police, as of late, they've been a great support.

0:30:310:30:36

And...I'd just like to go and get a cup of tea.

0:30:370:30:40

LAUGHTER

0:30:400:30:42

For a neighbourhood dispute to end up in a costly court visit is

0:30:440:30:48

never in the interests of anyone involved,

0:30:480:30:51

which is why the neighbourhood police teams always try to

0:30:510:30:54

resolve any falling out through mediation.

0:30:540:30:57

Mr Rhodes won the case.

0:30:590:31:01

The boundary between the properties was clearly defined.

0:31:020:31:06

Mr Walker must pay £7,115 for reinstatement of land,

0:31:080:31:14

losses and interference.

0:31:140:31:16

He was also ordered to pay legal costs.

0:31:160:31:19

It's the May Day bank holiday, and the seaside towns of Grimsby

0:31:240:31:28

and Cleethorpes have seen the pubs packed out with revellers

0:31:280:31:31

looking to make the most of the extended weekend.

0:31:310:31:35

We love Cleethorpes.

0:31:350:31:36

A team of 20 neighbourhood officers are out on patrol to ensure

0:31:360:31:40

any merriment is kept in check.

0:31:400:31:41

Got to go. Got to go. That's the state of play

0:31:410:31:43

in Cleethorpes at the moment - busy but jovial.

0:31:430:31:46

But as last orders are being called,

0:31:460:31:49

the boys in blue know that as revellers spill out

0:31:490:31:51

onto the streets, so too can trouble.

0:31:510:31:55

Spirits are running high,

0:31:550:31:57

and Simon and the team are happy to show their support to the public,

0:31:570:32:00

who are enjoying themselves.

0:32:000:32:02

I know I'm getting old now because I don't like this music any more.

0:32:020:32:07

Put a bit of Bruce Springsteen on or something like that.

0:32:070:32:10

Whilst most are intent on having a good time, there's one

0:32:100:32:14

group of lads looking for trouble, and Simon is first on the scene.

0:32:140:32:18

SHOUTING

0:32:180:32:20

There appears to have been an altercation between two men,

0:32:260:32:29

so the officers separate them to find out what happened.

0:32:290:32:32

Off we go.

0:32:320:32:34

SHOUTING

0:32:340:32:36

-What's going on?

-I was upstairs and some guy...

0:32:360:32:40

And it's not just the lads who are in hot water.

0:32:400:32:44

Oi!

0:32:440:32:45

You're going to get yourself locked up if you don't disappear now...

0:32:450:32:48

or you'll get yourself locked up.

0:32:480:32:50

-I have

-BLEEP...

0:32:500:32:53

It's a case of handbags at midnight.

0:32:530:32:56

I've left my jacket on the top floor - that's all I'm after.

0:32:560:32:59

Well, there's no need to do that, or you get yourself locked up,

0:32:590:33:01

-do you understand?

-Simon tries to calm the situation.

0:33:010:33:04

He asks security staff exactly who was involved in the drunken ruckus.

0:33:040:33:09

Who's done what? Or do we just want rid of them?

0:33:090:33:12

Just get rid of them, yeah.

0:33:120:33:13

-No-one's made any complaints?

-We just want rid.

0:33:130:33:16

So who is it? There's that kid there and his missus, they need to go.

0:33:160:33:21

-What about...? Is this kid...?

-Yeah.

0:33:210:33:23

The hope is everyone can be sent home with

0:33:230:33:25

a Section 27 dispersal order, instead of to the cells.

0:33:250:33:29

But just as this situation is contained,

0:33:300:33:32

another reaches flashpoint just down the road,

0:33:320:33:35

meaning Simon is on the move again.

0:33:350:33:37

SHOUTING

0:33:380:33:41

It's another brawl,

0:33:410:33:43

but this time the suspect isn't going down without a fight.

0:33:430:33:47

The man is wrestled to the ground, as the team around him

0:33:470:33:50

try to find out what happened.

0:33:500:33:52

SHOUTING

0:33:520:33:56

You're under arrest, all right?

0:33:560:33:58

What's the score with this kid, here?

0:33:580:34:00

-He had to be dragged out by about six bouncers.

-For nothing.

0:34:000:34:03

I was trying to get a drink.

0:34:030:34:05

A moment later, another lad, who is bleeding badly,

0:34:050:34:08

staggers out onto the pavement

0:34:080:34:09

and the police can see he came off worse for wear in this scrap.

0:34:090:34:14

The boy needs an ambulance.

0:34:140:34:16

Whereabouts have you just come from?

0:34:210:34:23

As officers provide on-the-spot medical assistance

0:34:230:34:26

waiting for the paramedics to arrive,

0:34:260:34:28

the suspect is questioned.

0:34:280:34:30

I tried to calm it down all night, tried to calm it down.

0:34:320:34:35

And then he come up to me, barged me in the back,

0:34:350:34:37

so I grabbed hold of him and said, "Who you barging?"

0:34:370:34:40

He threw three punches at me before I retaliated.

0:34:400:34:43

He threw three punches at me and then,

0:34:430:34:45

as soon as he threw the third punch,

0:34:450:34:46

I retaliated, and that's when the bouncer grabbed hold of me.

0:34:460:34:50

Which you...

0:34:500:34:52

And if you check on the CCTV, you'll see exactly what happened.

0:34:520:34:55

Mate, just put your hands behind your back.

0:34:550:34:57

Oh, I'm getting arrested.

0:34:570:35:00

At the end of the day, that's what we're here to find out -

0:35:000:35:04

what the truth is. Somebody said that's he's assaulted somebody,

0:35:040:35:08

so that's why he's under arrest.

0:35:080:35:10

-You're going to arrest him?

-Yes.

-For the night?

-Yes.

0:35:100:35:13

Despite his partner's protests, the man is arrested

0:35:130:35:17

and taken into custody.

0:35:170:35:18

But hang on a minute.

0:35:200:35:22

Let's have a quick replay of the start of the ruckus.

0:35:220:35:25

Look at the footage again. No, you're not seeing double.

0:35:250:35:28

It's a classic case of mistaken identity.

0:35:280:35:32

Remember the lad who was originally arrested?

0:35:320:35:34

Well, look, he's got the same haircut

0:35:340:35:36

and wearing a similar T-shirt to the suspect who's just been

0:35:360:35:39

bundled into the police van.

0:35:390:35:41

Right, what's this kid done?

0:35:420:35:44

To be honest, I think he's a witness.

0:35:440:35:47

-I've done nothing.

-At the moment...

0:35:470:35:49

I've locked up the other kid in the white T-shirt, who's quite muscly,

0:35:490:35:54

and I think he's the one who's slotted...

0:35:540:35:57

He said he slotted him.

0:35:570:35:58

He said that the guy we've got?

0:35:580:36:00

-So we're getting his details as a witness.

-Yes.

0:36:000:36:02

This lad is completely innocent and let go on the spot without

0:36:020:36:05

change, and turns from suspect to a valuable witness.

0:36:050:36:09

But as police talk to other witnesses and security staff,

0:36:090:36:12

it becomes apparent that another person was involved in the assault.

0:36:120:36:15

-Who assaulted him?

-That lad in the van...

-The bald lad.

0:36:160:36:21

Bald man.

0:36:210:36:23

The police are now looking for a man with a shaved head.

0:36:230:36:26

He's been involved in it,

0:36:280:36:30

I don't know how he's been involved with it,

0:36:300:36:33

but he's got blood on him. I don't want him back in the venue.

0:36:330:36:36

I've got one lad in the van already,

0:36:360:36:39

but they're saying that he's also involved.

0:36:390:36:42

A suspect fitting the description

0:36:420:36:44

is promptly rounded up and arrested.

0:36:440:36:46

Oh, you're joking!

0:36:460:36:48

I haven't done owt, mate.

0:36:490:36:51

I stopped the fight and that was it.

0:36:510:36:54

-Don't

-BLEEP

-speak to me like that.

0:36:540:36:55

This man is the 12th person arrested in the space of four hours,

0:36:570:37:01

but the groundwork Simon and the team did at the start of the night

0:37:010:37:04

has paid dividends in ensuring law and order was maintained.

0:37:040:37:08

Right, we're off back to Grimsby police station.

0:37:120:37:15

We've got two prisoners for an assault.

0:37:150:37:17

The victim's gone off to hospital.

0:37:170:37:19

He looks like he's got quite nasty facial injuries,

0:37:190:37:22

so we've got two males in custody for that

0:37:220:37:24

and we're just going to book them in

0:37:240:37:26

for that at the police station now.

0:37:260:37:28

It's been a night of mash-ups and lock-ups for the team.

0:37:280:37:32

But as they do one last sweep of the streets,

0:37:320:37:34

there's one more local they need to deal with.

0:37:340:37:39

Hold on, guys. Can one of you just pop out

0:37:390:37:41

and check this guy that's laid on the floor?

0:37:410:37:43

Yeah, just jump out for us. He's laid on the pavement there, look.

0:37:430:37:47

Hopefully, he's just drunk and having a sleep.

0:37:470:37:52

You all right, mate?

0:37:520:37:53

You all right?

0:37:540:37:56

What's your name?

0:37:560:37:57

What you doing on the floor?

0:37:570:37:59

Have you? You can't lay down here, can you?

0:38:010:38:03

You going to get up? Get up. Let's have a go.

0:38:030:38:06

Going to stop at my sister's tonight.

0:38:060:38:08

-You're comfortable walking, yeah?

-I think so.

-You sure?

0:38:080:38:12

-Got to go...

-Flag a taxi down.

0:38:120:38:15

You can't lay on the floor, though.

0:38:150:38:16

I can't. I've got about three quid on me.

0:38:160:38:18

Right. Well, we're not a taxi service, are we?

0:38:180:38:21

-I know you're not, but... Did me best.

-If you come out,

0:38:210:38:23

you've got to make sure you save enough money to get home.

0:38:230:38:26

Don't lay out on the floor cos someone will run over you

0:38:260:38:29

when they pull up, won't they? All right?

0:38:290:38:32

-Take care of yourself.

-See you later.

0:38:320:38:35

He's on his way, he looks more stable,

0:38:400:38:43

and I'm sure he'll get home safe. There you go.

0:38:430:38:47

This May Day mayhem-maker was found guilty of criminal damage

0:38:470:38:51

by the magistrates' court.

0:38:510:38:53

These scrappers were not arrested.

0:38:540:38:56

Oh, I'm getting arrested.

0:38:580:39:02

These two bruisers are both on police bail...

0:39:020:39:06

pending further investigation.

0:39:060:39:08

So-called legal highs are chemical compounds that claim to

0:39:160:39:20

simulate the effects of drugs such as ecstasy.

0:39:200:39:23

I am so high, I could...

0:39:230:39:26

HIS SPEECH SLURS AND SLOWS

0:39:260:39:30

But the evidence is that they can be deadly,

0:39:300:39:33

and the neighbourhood teams have been working hard to try

0:39:330:39:36

and educate the public as to their danger.

0:39:360:39:39

Today, the team are about to take part in a very eye-catching stunt.

0:39:390:39:43

Only the principal and the head of the students' union

0:39:430:39:46

are in on the act.

0:39:460:39:48

Hi, Barry, you all right?

0:39:480:39:49

We think we've got a student in possession of drugs.

0:39:490:39:52

We think he's in the cafeteria. Go and have a look.

0:39:520:39:57

CHATTER

0:40:010:40:03

-Come and have a look at the far end.

-OK, yeah.

0:40:030:40:07

-We've received information that you're possibly in possession of drugs.

-OK.

0:40:080:40:12

That means that I'm going to search you under

0:40:120:40:14

Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. OK?

0:40:140:40:17

-This is Sergeant May, I'm PC Hays, OK?

-Mm-hm.

0:40:170:40:20

-Are you known to the police at all?

-No, I'm not.

-OK.

0:40:200:40:25

The police do a thorough search of the student in front

0:40:250:40:28

of his classmates. There's no privacy here...

0:40:280:40:32

..not even when the search turns up trumps.

0:40:330:40:36

-Connor, what are these?

-They're... They're legal highs.

0:40:360:40:39

-Legal highs. And what do they actually contain?

-I don't know.

0:40:390:40:42

OK, and why have you got legal highs on you?

0:40:440:40:46

-Because I'm selling them.

-You're selling them. OK.

0:40:460:40:49

So what has my colleague recovered from your sock, Connor?

0:40:490:40:52

-Erm... That's cannabis.

-All right. OK.

0:40:520:40:56

-Even though you said you didn't have anything on you?

-Yeah.

0:40:560:41:00

I'm now arresting you for possession of cannabis,

0:41:000:41:02

which is a Class B controlled drug.

0:41:020:41:05

I'm also arresting you on suspicion of possession of a controlled

0:41:050:41:09

-drug with intent to supply.

-School's out for this student,

0:41:090:41:14

as the police station replaces afternoon lessons.

0:41:140:41:17

Mind your head when you get in.

0:41:170:41:20

But all is not quite what it seems...

0:41:200:41:23

for the young man is guilty of nothing more

0:41:230:41:26

than teaming up with the police.

0:41:260:41:28

The stop, search and arrest have all been faked.

0:41:280:41:31

It's now time for the cuffs to come off.

0:41:310:41:34

-We've not brought a key.

-THEY LAUGH

0:41:340:41:36

There's no key.

0:41:360:41:38

This is quite uncomfortable, really.

0:41:380:41:40

You were shaking.

0:41:400:41:43

Dozens of students filmed the staged arrest on their phones and the

0:41:440:41:48

whole incident went viral, getting thousands of hits on YouTube.

0:41:480:41:52

We saw them taking photos as well.

0:41:520:41:54

There was two or three, just to the right-hand side,

0:41:540:41:56

as we walked in and started searching Connor.

0:41:560:41:58

They all got their mobiles out and started pictures of us.

0:41:580:42:01

It proper scared us. We weren't expecting it at all.

0:42:010:42:03

The police and the principal were running around.

0:42:030:42:05

It was a massive rush.

0:42:050:42:07

There was staff and there was cameras and there...

0:42:070:42:09

It was all a bit daunting.

0:42:090:42:10

It was during lunchtime, so there was a lot of people around...

0:42:100:42:13

And everyone was asking questions, "What's going on?"

0:42:130:42:16

We had the idea of a legal highs week,

0:42:160:42:18

which we'd have events like the arrest and other things,

0:42:180:42:22

to promote maybe...

0:42:220:42:24

the idea of legal highs and how they can be dangerous.

0:42:240:42:27

The experiences we've had, certainly in the North Lincolnshire area,

0:42:270:42:31

is young people can use legal highs,

0:42:310:42:33

and sometimes it's just get that message out about

0:42:330:42:36

the dangers associated with them and the problems that they can cause,

0:42:360:42:40

and what better place than a college?

0:42:400:42:41

It's really good cos the college are actually leading on it

0:42:410:42:44
