Israel is now living in that strange, shadowy world of disbelief

about what's happened to her in such a brief period of time.

But Nasser shot some holes into their confidence

with his announced determination to blockade vital Israeli shipping

in the Gulf of Aqaba.

Numerically outnumbered in manpower and armament,

they are relying on a mystical sense of invincibility.

But there's been no showdown like this one in ten years.

If war does come here, it could be largely in the air

and it would be quickly over,

with heavy, serious losses to the Israelis.

All eyes are riveted now on the Gulf of Aqaba,

where Nasser may try to fulfil his pledge to crush Israel.

where the Israeli guns have pounded Gaza all day.

Well, our tanks get in in the morning.

bomb a few houses, where there are some Arabs

with guns and everything.

And they shoot the tanks and the tanks shoot back.

The tank is better than a man with a gun.

Well, it looks like the job is pretty complete then.

This is Victory Day in Jewish Jerusalem,

the day the winners of the battle for the Holy City

return through the Mandelbaum Gate

to the cheers and the tears of their fellow Israelis.

This morning, the aeroplanes came in and the tanks came

and they completely blasted the Old City.

And then the finest thing we saw was

our troops marching into the Old City.

And all of us, although we haven't really, you know...

We'd all been fighting, ourselves, but these were the guys

who'd really got into the Old City after 20 years.

This was something we'd been waiting for.

It had been a thorn in our side. And you've got no idea.

To be a Jew and not to have the Old City in our hands,

it's something, which is unexpli...

Syria announced it accepts the ceasefire agreement,

as declared by the United Nations,

joining Jordan and Egypt,

who accepted the ceasefire terms earlier this week.

The IDF army spokesman reports that soldiers

will be sent home in the coming days.

The wind is whistling through?

Most of the refugees here are women and children.

Some of the husbands are here, too, but they're out of sight,

nursing feelings of mixed desperation and hatred

and not wanting to be filmed.

Virtually all of them bring stories of Israeli brutality.

How they were herded together at night, taken part of the way

to the river, made to walk with their hands in the air for miles,

as Israeli troops hurried them along

with bursts of gunfire over their heads.

Several of their villages were deliberately destroyed, they say,

so that they would have to move.

They do not believe that the Western world wants to know that story,

and they say that Israel is the 51st state of the United States

and American imperialism is the cause of their misery.

This largest of the refugee camps has a population of 7,500,

with more coming in every day.

The only thing growing here are seeds of revenge.
