He was always known as Uncle Tommy in the family.

This hall is a memorial to

Thomas Andrews, my great uncle,

and the chief designer of the ship.

The iceberg sliced right down

the side of the ship like a tin opener.

And he explained to Captain Smith

that the ship would sink in two hours,

and that's what happened.

He worked tirelessly to try and keep people calm

and get them to the lifeboats.

He was last seen, I understand, standing in the smoking room.

I think he was just in despair.

Having been responsible for building that huge ship,

it must have been absolutely devastating.
