Episode 6 And They're Off... for Sport Relief

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

Hello and welcome to And They're Off for Sport Relief,

the show where five famous faces go head-to-head

in a series of fearsome races.

And in the studio, we have five contestants,

all hoping to choose the champion.

Plus, we are here to raise lots of money for Sport Relief,

and you at home can do your bit and donate.

Details of how to do that will be coming up later on in the show.

But now, it is time to meet the five players,

all hoping to be quick off the blocks tonight.

First up, we have Keziah. She's a police officer from Lancashire.

Next up, meet Paul. He's a forensic DNA scientist from Seaham.

Our third player tonight is Tracy. She's a housewife from East Sussex.

Fourth in, meet Michael.

He's a business lecturer from Belfast.

And, finally, it's Josie.

She's a health care scientist's assistant from Newcastle.

So, those are our contestants.

It is time to meet the celebrities who'll be racing for them tonight.

First into the fray, it's hockey gold medal winner Sam Quek.

She beat allcomers with Team GB at the Olympics,

but will she give the opposition some stick today?

Our next competitor is Homes Under The Hammer presenter Martin Roberts.

Has he got the foundations to prove a strong investment

or will he get a proper gazumping?

Next, a woman who's used to being thrown in at the deep end.

It's Olympics swimming legend Sharron Davies.

Can she pool her resources and put in a gala performance?

Our fourth Challenger is actor and presenter Tyger Drew Honey.

He shot to fame on Outnumbered

but, with four fearsome opponents, will he be outnumbered today?

And finally, its award-winning comedian Zoe Lyons.

She's a very funny comic

but the big question is will this stand-up fall down?

That remains to be seen.

So, here is how the game works.

Our celebrities will fight it out over five pretty tough races.

In every race, you will be represented by one of them,

but you'll have to earn the right to pick a celeb.

If you pick the loser, you're out of the game.

Let's have a look at the first race,

as demonstrated by our resident Olympian.

Our race demonstrator is Daryll Neita,

Olympic sprinter and World relay silver medallist.

And our first race is the Mud Run.

It's a simple test of speed and power

and celebrities need to sprint 50 metres to the finish

but avoid getting stuck in the three mud pits.

They'll need to be strong and focused

to make it to the end of the course.

If they get stuck in the mud, they'll need to haul themselves out

and keep going till they reach the finish line.

So, first up, our celebrities need to show us

Get ready for a very soggy Mud Run!

Zoe's pumped up.

And Tyger, put 'em up, put 'em up!

They're on the start line.

-KLAXON

-And they're off!

It's chucking it down here but Tyger makes a decent start.

He's followed by Sam,

who attacks the mud pit like it's nicked her hockey sticks.

Take that, mud pit!

They're all in pit one at the moment. Tyger, Zoe...

Zoe, in green, is going to be first out, I think.

But Martin's stuck. If only house prices moved this slowly, eh?

Zoe and Tyger storm their way onto the second pit.

Sam not far behind with a two-footed jump.

Take that, second mud pit.

And here's Sharron, in purple.

Plop.

Tyger's in the lead here, as Martin hits the mud hard for a second time.

Tyger's got the technique,

nearly clearing that pit.

Sam just behind him there, look.

But our property expert's taken up permanent residence in that pit,

by the looks of things.

Tyger's out of the last pit now and, look at that,

finishes with a cartwheel. Sam, with a slide.

But now it's back to where the action's really at.

Sharron's managed to break away from Martin here.

Jumped straight into that mud. Zoe's got the finish line in sight, look.

Martin is gaining ever so slightly on Sharron here.

I mean, he's a long way back.

Zoe's in third. Sharron's out now.

Martin most definitely isn't.

There's no way he's catching Sharron.

She's fourth and Martin must think he's back on Homes Under The Hammer,

because he's going, he's going, and he's gone.

Our celebrities need to make their way

over eight inflatable donuts to the finish line.

They're going to need good balance and agility

just to make it across because, if they hit the water,

they're back to the start.

They can use any technique they want.

Some might run but some might crawl.

Maybe slow and steady will win the race.

and who's going to get a right good dunking. Here we go.

Race two, it's The Donuts.

Sharron waves for the camera.

Zoe, primed for the occasion.

Sam, up for the fight.

And Tyger, something for the ladies.

Zoe and Sam, attacking the donuts, but Zoe's off.

And so is Sam, eventually. That was a good run. Let's see that again.

Zoe goes first. Sam can't quite stay on her feet. Both back to the start.

Tyger and Sharron, slow and steady here.

Tyger, well, he wobbles on that next donut but he is still on.

Sharron, it has to be said, is taking it very slowly.

And Sam's donuts are sopping wet and she just can't stay on.

Tyger, though, really beginning to get things in motion here.

Look at that face! Sharron, getting things in slow motion, really,

it has to be said.

And Zoe Lyons falls.

So, Tyger's beating Lyons!

Well, that's one age-old question answered.

Sam's off again, look.

Look at that! And, just like that, Tyger gets his paws onto the bank.

He has cleared the donuts! He looks exhausted.

Here comes another run from Sam.

three, four, five...

She's still on! That's amazing! Amazing run from Sam!

Tyger crosses the line.

He earns his stripes there, with a victory.

Sharron's inching forward.

Zoe's inching downwards much quicker.

Look at that. Sam's at the bank. What a display that was!

She's dragged herself up to second place, when she looked out of it.

Sharron's still looking a bit out of it,

reaching for her final donut though. Sam takes second.

Zoe's going to need a miracle here.

And possibly a float and a towel and a fan heater!

Sharron is out.

She climbs out. She'll take third.

And poor old Zoe is defeated.

That's one, two, three,

but Zoe is stranded in the lions' enclosure,

back at the start, for fourth.

I mean, Michael,

Tyger Drew Honey flying past the donuts like they weren't even there.

He's doing absolutely fantastic. I'm kind of glad

I was swayed by his first win. Can he keep it going? I hope so.

I think I'm definitely going with him

if I get the answer to the question.

I wasn't enormously confident going in to that race.

It had a number of factors that weren't going to go for me.

Speed is not my strong point and balance certainly isn't,

so I was quite surprised I got to the fourth one.

All of our celebrities have given up their time

Race three and they're racing all the way to the top.

Sam, thumbs up.

Sharron, hands up.

Tyger, well, that's a mess-up.

-KLAXON

-And they're off!

They need to steer their balls all the way to the top,

avoiding the holes. Sam, very close to that first hole.

Dangerous, in fact. So is Sharron, wiggling her arms for some reason.

But Tyger is on the move. Can he dodge this hole?

Sam's not getting far here.

Oh, deftly done. This really is a tricky game

because any one of those holes can swallow your ball,

and that's you back to the start.

Well, look at this. Tyger is out in front,

steering his way past that big hole.

And he really is nearing the top here.

He's got one straight run, into the target. Well, there it is!

Tyger wins To The Top!

He made that look really, really easy.

But Sharron's sinking into the abyss there.

It's a good job she never did THAT when she was swimming!

Back to the start for her. Sam...

Oh, she had a sort of mad panic at the end there

and the set nearly collapsed.

Well, that would have been a total disaster.

Sharron, now starting again. We begin again. Sam, the same.

Picking their way up between these horrifying holes,

just waiting to swallow them up and send them right back to the start.

Look at the concentration there on Sam's face.

That's ultimate focus, that is.

Sharron jiggling away in that trademark style

that we've come to know and respect.

Sam, trying to work this out like a potentially difficult puzzle.

That's what this is - it's a puzzle.

Balls avoiding holes - that's what it's all about.

And Sharron is getting the hang of this. Look at that, Sam.

Oh, she's on a knife edge here!

She seems to have taken control of that situation again.

She steps back a couple of paces. Sharron, too.

She's dispensed with the jiggling, but she's lost it.

She's lost it! That's dropped. And Sam is very, very close now.

Can she do this? She must do it! She's inches away!

Surely this is going to be it! Second place for Sam.

Arms aloft, triumphant!

And Sharron has to admit defeat.

Still, she got a nice cuddle off everyone.

Let's take a look at the race that'll decide your fate.

In race four, our celebrities will tackle The Death Slide.

They'll scramble 20 metres up a climbing wall.

It's a test of courage and steady nerves,

as they drop down the slide

and plunge into the freezing waters below.

Then, it's a short swim to the mats,

before they haul themselves out and sprint to the finish line.

Who are you behind in The Death Slide?

Choosing first in this round could make all the difference.

So, in this head-to-head,

you'll need to answer not one, but two questions correctly.

Here's your first.

Well, take cover, cos they're about to make an even bigger one.

Race four is the Death Slide.

Here they are. Tyger, bouncing around like Tigger.

Sam, trying to out-Tigger Tyger.

But who'll "Winnie" and who'll just be "Pooh"?

It's actor versus Olympian.

-KLAXON

-And they're off!

They're step for step in the sprint.

They're hitting the wall at exactly the same time.

They're neck and neck with each other!

This really is terrifically close.

Oh, but Sam's just gone head-to-head with that beam. Ouch!

And Tyger throws himself down the slide.

This is the most unorthodox entry we've ever seen!

Seriously, what is that technique?

I've never seen anything like it. There's a classic entrance from Sam.

Tyger, like a crazy spider.

Sam, smoothly through the air, lands on the back of her head,

like you're meant to.

And she's up and swimming for the mats. So is Tyger.

There's not much between these two.

Tyger touches first but Sam's right on Tyger's tail.

This is going to come down to a sprint across a wobbly mat.

Who's going to take it? Tyger leaps towards the platform.

He's the winner! Sam just behind him. She takes second.

Oh, and there's an undignified scrap,

both trying to pull each other in.

But, thankfully, neither succeeds.

Just time for a bit of post-race analysis.

"That slide was an important bit."

"Yes, I thought that slide was important too.

"Then I banged my head."

Well, how about that? Michael, you have shouted yourself hoarse today.

Yes, I'm going to go and have a lie-down after.

-Oh, Josie...

but someone you know has a gold medal from the Olympics to her name

OK, in a moment,

all of our celebrities will be back for the final race.

But first, everyone is here tonight for one reason,

and that is to raise money for Sport Relief.

Tom Daley recently went to Malawi

to meet people working on the front line in the fight against malaria.

Now, this is a tough film to watch,

but it shows just how important your support is.

Here, in Malawi, in 2016,

20 children under five died from malaria every day.

It's really sad to walk through this ward

and see kids that should be running around

and playing outside and having fun.

They're kids... They're just kids.

And they don't need to be suffering like this.

Five-month-old Aisha has been in hospital for three days

with severe malaria and her condition is critical.

What is happening at the moment?

So, in this case, she's very sick.

Very concerned...

..but we will do as much as we can to help.

Malaria is treatable.

But for many of the kids I saw, it hadn't been spotted early enough.

But there is a way we can help speed up diagnosis.

I'm at a rural health clinic which, for most parents,

is the first port of call

when their child falls extremely ill with suspected malaria.

Malaria can be difficult to accurately diagnose

without expensive equipment like microscopes.

But health workers here are using a game-changing rapid test.

Billiam's baby, Lexa, has suspected malaria.

Why, in particular, in rural areas like this,

is it so important to have these tests?

A lot of lives have been saved. We cannot say how many, but many.

The test result comes back in just 15 minutes.

It's a miracle, really, they're able to test

and now that baby can recover.

Lexa is one of the lucky ones.

She got her malaria diagnosed early enough

to have the best chance of recovering quickly,

and it's all thanks to one of these plastic miracles.

OK, Michael, it's time to take on the Showdown.

The final race is the Showdown and they're all back.

Zoe in lane one.

Sharron, ready to run.

Martin can't wait till we're done.

Sam, oh, she looks fun.

Tyger, quick kiss of the gun.

Tyger launches himself off the platform, followed by Sam.

Zoe trailing. Tyger hits the water first.

It's pretty close here, you know. Sam, just with the edge.

But Tyger, Martin and Sharron are all still in this.

Climbing up the bank goes Sam.

First up, she is leaping her way to the top of the slide.

She has got a point to prove and she is proving it.

Tyger and Martin, down the slide now.

Sam already swimming, and we know Tyger's quick. Can he catch her?

Zoe's hauling herself up the bank, but, back at the front,

Sam is still in the lead, Tyger second.

This is very, very close indeed. Sharron takes a leap.

She's chasing down Martin, as Zoe hits the slide.

She's got Sharron and Martin in her sights. Look at her go!

Oh, she's got a lakeful of water in her face as well.

Unbelievably, Martin's beaten Sharron out of the water.

as Martin claims an extremely respectable third.

Zoe collapses. Oh, dear.

Sharron runs in for fourth. That's terrific.

And, with a bit of a helping hand, it's all over.
