-I'm a Pembrokeshire girl.

-I've lived in Carmarthenshire

-I've dreamt about.

-You have to live in the county

-that sponsors the show.

-Carys Evans was the ambassador.

-She's a member of my family.

-I learnt a lot from her.

-I tried for this role.

-My husband and I have a

-My role started last year.

-It's a two-year position.

-Ever year, the county has to help

-to raise funds for the showground.

-I've had to go around the county...

-the fund-raising events.

-I took part in the Tractor Run.

-It was my idea to follow

-It was a lot of fun.

-It's going to be a busy year.

-to talk about for many of us.

-But for Lampeter's Price family...

-..it's how they earn a living

-and is part of the daily lives.

-Lyn Ebenezer is the editor of

-a new book about the family...

-..where three generations

-are undertakers.

-The title is Teulu'r Gymwynas Olaf

-and Rhodri has been to meet them.

-It's quite apt

-that I was at a funeral...

-..when I got the idea for a book

-on Gwilym Price Son and Daughters.

-Many feel

-that it's a sombre subject...

-..but talking to Gwilym

-gave me a new perspective.

-Rhys, Gwilym's grandson who works in

-the business said something to me.

-He said that they don't serve

-the dead but the living.

-I found it quite revealing.

-Gwilym's story covers funerals

-at sea, the burial of a horse...

-..and singing with Vera Lyn

-whilst in the RAF.

-She was singing We'll Meet Again so

-I stood up to sing We'll Meet Again.

-She said "I'd like to get

-those three airmen here."

-She left the stage and joined us

-and I sang with Vera Lynn.

-He sang with Vera Lynn but has also

-buried some important characters.

-I think the biggest had to be

-Gwynfor Evans' funeral.

-I don't know how many people were

-there but it was a huge funeral.

-I'd like to say that it was

-a very dignified funeral.

-You can go from one spectrum

-to the other.

-They buried the activist, Cayo who

-lived locally and was a good friend.

-This features them all

-from Gwynfor to Cayo.

-All this from a man

-who started as a carpenter.

-The family's furniture store was

-part of the business at the start.

-He fell into funerals but his son

-and grandson have followed suit.

-It wasn't accidental

-but more of a necessity.

-Dad would go away to London

-with work.

-Mam would phone the school...

-..so that I had permission to go

-with them to help move the departed.

-Mam did the driving so I'd go with

-them when I was about 15 years old.

-How did it feel for a young lad

-to have to deal with dead bodies?

-It was frightening at first

-because dead bodies are cold.

-I didn't like handling cold things.

-We didn't have gloves so

-I'd wrap a jumper around my hands.

-I started like that

-but you get used to it.

-I remember going to funerals

-when I was twelve or thirteen.

-Dat-cu took me in the hearse

-when I was six or seven.

-I've shadowed Dat-cu all my life.

-A farmer's son is born,

-raised and lives on a farm.

-This is just the same.

-Today, the family can store

-the bodies in a cold chamber...

-..embalm the bodies on the site and

-hold services in their own chapel.

-They can even store ashes

-in their crypt for families.

-What's the secret

-to the family's success?

-People trust us because

-we're a family business...

-..and there's three generations

-in the business.

-Someone will either know my father

-or was in school with me.

-It's important that the children

-follow me into the business.

-Death is a taboo subject.

-I hope we've shed some light

-or given a new perspective.

-It isn't a competition

-with Dat-cu nor Dad.

-Dat-cu has been here for 64 years

-and I hope to do another 64.

-We plan to expand so I'll be happy

-if I achieve half as much as Dat-cu.
