-to both of their hearts.

-as we've spend lots of time there.

-Park and Dare Theatre in Treorchy.

-The new drama, 35 Times

-will be staged at the theatre.

-It's about a group of brave women

-who've experienced domestic abuse.

-The director, Bethan was inspired to

-write the show, 35 Times...

-..after spending time with Women's

-Aid groups in Rhondda Cynon Taff.

-They welcomed me into their coffee

-mornings, refuge and workshops.

-They told me

-about their experiences.

-I met these incredibly brave women

-and my inspiration was there.

-They were my inspiration

-as they were just incredible.

-It's called 35 Times.

-Believe it or not, it takes over 35

-cases of physical or mental abuse...

-..before someone reports it

-to anyone outside the family.

-It's a surprising fact

-and I couldn't believe it at first.

-When I first came

-to the rehearsals...

-..I learnt that there are

-over 400 cases a month in Rhondda.

-If there are 400 reported cases,

-there are many more unreported ones.

-These figures make you think.

-The drama is set

-at a coffee morning...

-..similar to the ones

-run by Women's Aid.

-I play Gemma who's in her 20s

-and she's a mother of four.

-She's been married three times

-and abused in every relationship.

-My character is the oldest

-and she's called Glenys.

-She was abused for many years

-She is forgetful which helps her

-to forget the abuse she's suffered.

-It's quite a responsibility

-to deal with such a serious subject.

-You feel a responsibility towards

-those who've experienced the abuse.

-We've met some of these people

-which was quite a moving experience.

-It's a very serious subject but

-there's lots of fun in the drama.

-The show is really positive...

-..as it proves how women

-can join forces to celebrate life.

-These women aren't victims,

-they are survivors...

-..who are working hard

-to get their lives back on track.

-In the end, there hope and they

-are looking forward to the future.

-Pupils of Fitzalan, Whitchurch High,

-Glantaf, Plasmawr and Bro Edern...

-..have been working with me and the

-professional musician, Mei Gwynedd.

-Our cameras followed the pupils

-of Ysgol Bro Edern.

-Tara and I have been working with a

-band from Bro Edern school, Cardiff.

-We've mentored them today...

-..and I hope they'll perform

-in front of the school later on.

-They will also be performing the

-song at the Tafwyl Festival's Tipi.

-It can be challenging but it's

-vital to nurture their confidence.

-They realize that it's lots of work

-but they have enjoyed themselves

-It's great to work with Tara.

-She teaches the choreography

-and concentrates on the vocals...

-..whilst I work

-on their instrumental skills.

-We've been thinking about

-different themes like the summer.

-We wanted to represent our freedom

-as we've just finished our GCSEs.

-We've had lots of fun in the sun.

-I enjoyed it as it's something

-different to what I usually do...

-..and different to the music

-that I usually listen to.

-It was great to work

-with Mei and Tara.

-They compose music in a completely

-different way to what I usually do.

-They worked with us

-as individuals...

-..to make us feel comfortable

-with the instruments.

-It's fantastic that they get to

-perform with professional musicians.

-They've been given a chance to

-develop their composing skills...

-..and join forces to compose

-a Welsh language song.

-It will be fun to perform

-in front of an audience.

-I look forward to performing

-at the Tafwyl Festival...

-..as we're all so proud of what

-we've achieved in one morning.

-Eighty years ago this Sunday...

-..the adventurer, Amelia Earhart

-vanished over the Pacific Ocean...

-..during her attempt

-to fly around the world.

-She's remembered for a special

-reason in this part of Wales.

-On 18 June 1928, residents

-on this stretch of coastline...

-..heard the sound

-of an approaching aircraft.

-As it neared, it became apparent

-that it would land on the sea.

-What was so special about this?

-As well as the pilot and mechanic,

-there was a female on board.

-She was Amelia Earhart

-from America.

-Amelia Earhart

-was an incredibly important woman.

-She was the first woman to cross

-the Atlantic Ocean in a seaplane.

-It took 20 hours and 49 minutes to

-travel from Trepassey, Newfoundland.

-She wanted to land in Southampton

-but our changeable weather...

-..and a lack of fuel meant

-that they landed in Burry Port.

-I'm very proud of our heritage

-and for Amelia Earhart contribution.

-A group of us have organized

-an exhibitions of heritage boards.

-The aim is to educate the public

-and school pupils about our history.

-The people of Burry Port

-are very proud of this connection.

-There's been debate about

-who should claim Amelia Earhart.

-Welcome to Pwll.

-The plane landed there,

-opposite the village of Pwll.

-After a campaign, the local council

-erected a plaque...

-..to mark the exact spot

-where the seaplane landed.

-She landed outside Burry Port,

-or Pwll according to Pwll residents!

-Over the years, there have been many

-disputes about where she landed.

-The German female pilot flew

-a seaplane to Burry Port in 1990.

-John Morgan and I took a boat out

-to tow the seaplane into Burry Port.

-Is it the biggest event to have

-ever taken place in Burry Port?

-You won't find a town story

-with more historical significance.

-There's another important story

-that belongs to Pwll.

-I knew Ossie Roberts and his family

-who lived eight doors down to me.

-He took out a small boat

-to help Amelia from her seaplane.

-This man from Pwll was the first

-to welcome Amelia to dry land.

-Amelia Earhart spent her first night

-as a famous heroine...

-..here at the Ashburnham Hotel.

-She spent her second night at a

-luxury hotel at Hyde Park, London.

-Apparently, the Ashburnham

-was full that night.

-But she's received a welcome here

-even if she didn't understand it.

-She shouted out to the residents of

-Pwll and they shouted back to her.

-However, she couldn't

-understand their accents.

-When she landed,

-she asked of her whereabouts.

-She wasn't too happy when she landed

-as she couldn't understand Welsh.

-We must celebrate as she encouraged

-other women to follow their dreams.

-Next year, we'll be celebrating

-90 years since the 1928 landing.

-I hope that Pwll will be part of the

-celebration, not just Burry Port.

-Next year, we're marking

-90 years of this important story...

-..in Burry Port and Pwll's history.

-To mark the 90 years, we need

-to put Burry Port on the map.
