-# Fancy A Fortune? #

0:01:310:01:33

-On tonight's programme...

0:01:330:01:35

-..Rhodri visits a horse sanctuary on

-the Black Mountains that is packed.

0:01:360:01:40

-London enjoyed a taste of Wales

-with the chef, Bryn Williams.

0:01:410:01:46

-Later, I'll tell you about the menu

-I devised for Fortnum & Mason...

0:01:460:01:50

-..to celebrate St David's Day.

0:01:500:01:54

-Elin meets a Bethesda girl with her

-sights on the Tokyo Olympic Games.

0:01:540:02:03

-My studio guest tonight is

-the Welsh entertainer, Shan Cothi.

0:02:030:02:07

-Welcome to Heno.

0:02:070:02:10

-Thank you.

0:02:110:02:16

-You've got an important concert

-to celebrate Mother's Day.

0:02:160:02:20

-Yes, that's right.

0:02:200:02:29

-It's part of my Paradwys tour.

0:02:300:02:35

-I was meant to be in Aberaeron

-before Christmas.

0:02:350:02:41

-However, I lost my voice.

0:02:420:02:47

-It was rearranged for Sunday.

0:02:470:02:49

-Our first report

-is close to Shan's heart.

0:02:500:02:53

-It's focuses on the Lluest Horse

-and Pony Trust in Llanddeusant.

0:02:530:02:58

-I've never been to the site but

-have heard about their good work.

0:02:580:03:02

-They rescue a lot of horses.

0:03:020:03:05

-Unfortunately,

-the sanctuary is full.

0:03:050:03:07

-But when they received a SOS call

-to save four horses recently...

0:03:080:03:12

-..they stepped up to the plate.

0:03:130:03:15

-Rhodri Gomer has the story.

0:03:150:03:17

-The Lluest Horse and Pony Trust sits

-at the foot of the Black Mountains.

0:03:210:03:28

-It was established in 1985 and has

-rescued over 350 horses and ponies.

0:03:290:03:35

-But their work never stops.

0:03:350:03:38

-Our motto is to rescue,

-rehabilitate and re-home.

0:03:380:03:42

-We rescue the horse or pony

-that needs help...

0:03:420:03:47

-..nurse them back to health

-and try to re-home them...

0:03:470:03:55

-..in a place that will benefit

-the owners as well as the horses.

0:03:560:04:01

-The site offers temporary stables

-for about 30 horses.

0:04:030:04:09

-Unfortunately, their work

-is more important than ever.

0:04:090:04:13

-A lot of people don't realize the

-cost behind caring for these horses.

0:04:130:04:19

-They are cheap to buy

-so people take them home...

0:04:190:04:25

-..but can't look after them

-or afford feed and vet's bills...

0:04:250:04:31

-..so they get rid of them.

0:04:320:04:36

-The team of five at Lluest rescue

-horses from across South Wales.

0:04:360:04:42

-They recently rescued some horses

-from the nearby Black Mountains.

0:04:420:04:49

-What's the story behind

-these four horses?

0:04:490:04:53

-A fortnight ago, a vet told us about

-some horses on the mountain.

0:04:530:04:59

-We went to see them on the Friday

-and they were in urgent need.

0:05:000:05:08

-They had been there for two years

-so faced the harsh storms of winter.

0:05:090:05:16

-Luckily, we were able to help them.

0:05:160:05:20

-They are named after the storms

-that we had this winter...

0:05:200:05:24

-..so they are Imogen,

-Eva, Henry and Gertrude.

0:05:250:05:29

-What would have happened to these

-horses if they hadn't been rescued?

0:05:300:05:33

-They would have been put to sleep.

0:05:330:05:38

-They are segregated from the other

-horses for the first six weeks.

0:05:380:05:42

-The vets check the horses

-before they join the other horses.

0:05:430:05:48

-It's important to give them

-food and water...

0:05:480:05:53

-..because they were starving after

-the winter storms on the mountain...

0:05:530:05:58

-..so have been eating non-stop

-since they arrived!

0:05:580:06:03

-This centre is currently

-at its full capacity.

0:06:030:06:07

-The new horses are segregated

-for the first six weeks...

0:06:070:06:11

-..so it gives them time

-to find new homes.

0:06:110:06:15

-They house an array of horses and

-need practical help from volunteers.

0:06:160:06:21

-More importantly,

-they need funds too.

0:06:220:06:25

-A charity in England has given us

-funds but it runs out in June.

0:06:260:06:32

-Every month, it costs about 7,000

-to keep all these animals...

0:06:330:06:38

-..so we need a lot of help.

0:06:380:06:44

-We'll happily accept

-any sized donation you can offer.

0:06:440:06:48

-Here's a reminder of tonight's

-question for Fancy A Fortune?

0:06:550:07:00

-What is the name

-of St David's mother?

0:07:000:07:03

-1) Nerys, 2) Nansi, or 3) Non?

0:07:030:07:06

-This competition is now closed.

0:07:060:07:14

-You've only got a few minutes to

-pick up that phone so good luck!

0:07:150:07:19

-Shan Cothi is my studio guest.

0:07:200:07:30

-You have a special concert

-on Sunday.

0:07:340:07:44

-I think this would be lovely

-for a gift for Mother's Day.

0:07:470:07:53

-The concert

-is part of the Paradwys Tour.

0:07:530:08:03

-Catrin Finch is one

-of the performers.

0:08:060:08:11

-There's some great music.

0:08:110:08:19

-Aled Wynne is going

-to be the guest tenor.

0:08:190:08:26

-There might be a touch of Myfanwy.

0:08:260:08:34

-The concert happened to fall

-on Mother's Day.

0:08:350:08:38

-The concert is on Sunday at the

-Holy Trinity Church in Aberaeron.

0:08:380:08:47

-There's still some tickets left.

0:08:480:08:58

-Some of the children from the local

-school in Aberaeron...

0:09:010:09:09

-..and they'll sing Anfonaf Angel

-with myself.

0:09:090:09:14

-It sounds like a great evening

-for the whole family.

0:09:140:09:18

-The concert starts at 7.00pm.

0:09:180:09:25

-It should finish at about 9.00pm.

0:09:250:09:35

-This is a great way to introduce

-children to this type of music.

0:09:390:09:44

-Local schools have helped us...

0:09:440:09:48

-..throughout the Paradwys tour.

0:09:490:09:57

-Teachers have told us that we have

-inspired the pupils...

0:09:570:10:03

-..who have helped us.

0:10:030:10:07

-This is the final stop on the tour.

0:10:070:10:12

-This is the last concert

-as part of the Paradwys tour.

0:10:120:10:21

-However, we have been asked to do

-some other concerts...

0:10:220:10:32

-..in various churches.

0:10:340:10:39

-It's great to go to the communities.

0:10:390:10:44

-I get to meet people.

0:10:450:10:49

-I really enjoy meeting them.

0:10:500:10:58

-I hope Mam and Dad can come to the

-concert in Aberaeron.

0:10:590:11:02

-Thank you, Shan.

0:11:020:11:04

-Shan returns later to spin the wheel

-in tonight's Fancy A Fortune?

0:11:040:11:08

-There's still a few minutes left

-to enter our game, Fancy A Fortune?

0:11:080:11:13

-After the break, I'll be calling one

-lucky viewer who can win a fortune.

0:11:140:11:18

-We join the chef, Bryn Williams who

-cooks with Welsh produce in London.

0:11:180:11:23

-There's also a Bethesda girl aiming

-for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

0:11:230:11:30

-Join us in a few minutes.

0:11:300:11:33

0:11:400:11:43

-Welcome back.

0:11:460:11:48

-There's still a few minutes left

-to enter our game, Fancy A Fortune?

0:11:480:11:52

-This competition is now closed.

0:11:520:12:00

-Shan was in London yesterday.

0:12:000:12:02

-Yes, that's right.

0:12:020:12:05

-I was celebrating St David's Day

-at the London Welsh Centre...

0:12:050:12:09

-..with Radio Cymru and my programme,

-Bore Cothi.

0:12:090:12:15

-We had a great time.

0:12:150:12:19

-I met some great people.

0:12:190:12:28

-Aled Hall and Gillian Elisa

-joined us.

0:12:280:12:30

-There was a strong Welsh presence

-in the capital for St David's Day.

0:12:300:12:34

-A host of Welsh produce was

-showcased in prestigious stores.

0:12:340:12:37

-The Taste of Wales campaign is being

-spearheaded by chef, Bryn Williams.

0:12:380:12:42

-London's residents celebrated

-St David's Day in style...

0:12:420:12:45

-..with quality Welsh produce being

-prepared by well-known Welsh chefs.

0:12:460:12:52

-I've prepared a menu using

-the best ingredients from Wales.

0:12:530:12:59

-This menu can be enjoyed

-at Fortnum & Mason for a fortnight.

0:12:590:13:03

-The produce can also be bought

-in the shop and taken home.

0:13:040:13:14

-It's a great way

-to showcase Welsh produce.

0:13:140:13:21

-Fortnum & Mason is a wonderful stage

-that welcomes 10,000 visitors a day.

0:13:210:13:26

-They can buy Welsh produce

-and promote Wales to the world.

0:13:260:13:31

-You live in London so what

-can you tell us about Welsh produce?

0:13:320:13:35

-I use Welsh produce in Odette's and

-it's important for me to do that.

0:13:350:13:42

-I only use the best because I cook

-for people from all over the world.

0:13:420:13:48

-At least 60% of those ingredients

-used in Odette's are from Wales.

0:13:480:13:56

-I've taken recipes from Odette's

-to serve at Fortnum & Mason.

0:13:570:14:04

-Customers know that

-the Caerphilly cheese is excellent.

0:14:050:14:08

-If I replace it, people ask,

-"where's the Welsh cheese?"

0:14:090:14:13

-People are starting to realize

-that Wales has excellent produce.

0:14:130:14:19

-I love Welsh produce and can't be

-a Welsh chef without Welsh produce!

0:14:200:14:25

-Any restaurant in Italy

-will always have Italian produce.

0:14:250:14:30

-I feel it's important to use

-the best that Wales can produce.

0:14:300:14:34

-Many producers have left their

-creameries, farms, bakeries...

0:14:350:14:39

-..fishmongers, butchers, kitchens

-and breweries to travel to London.

0:14:390:14:47

-This year has been mega!

0:14:470:14:50

-We've had far more produce

-and far more venues.

0:14:500:14:55

-To be in the prestige places, as it

-is this year, is very important...

0:14:560:15:00

-..because other retailers

-do follow the big names.

0:15:000:15:03

-Tourists and all sorts of people go

-to London and visit Fortnum & Mason.

0:15:040:15:10

-They see it here, buy it here and

-taste it in restaurants in London.

0:15:100:15:16

-They go home and say...

0:15:170:15:18

-.."that little place on the side

-of the UK has got fantastic meat!"

0:15:180:15:23

-I like it when Wales competes

-with Scotland, England and France.

0:15:240:15:28

-Yes, it's crucial

-to sell the produce in London...

0:15:290:15:34

-..but it should compete and beat

-the best the world has to offer.

0:15:340:15:42

-I always say that Wales

-has the greatest larder on Earth!

0:15:420:15:48

-The best thing about Welsh produce

-is its quality.

0:15:480:15:53

-Thank you, Bryn Williams.

0:15:530:15:55

-Thank you, Bryn Williams.

-

-Thank you.

0:15:550:15:58

-The phone lines have now closed

-for our game, Fancy A Fortune?

0:16:000:16:03

-Stay by your phones as I could be

-calling one of you shortly.

0:16:040:16:07

-The Olympic Games

-are fast approaching.

0:16:070:16:09

-The Rio Games are held this year

-but we're focusing on Tokyo in 2020.

0:16:100:16:15

-A girl from Bethesda is making

-waves in the sailing world.

0:16:160:16:21

-She hopes to represent Team GB

-at Tokyo in four years.

0:16:210:16:25

-But there's one important thing she

-needs to fulfil her dream - a boat!

0:16:260:16:30

-Elin went to meet her.

0:16:300:16:34

-Wales boasts many natural resources

-that can host open-air activities...

0:16:370:16:43

-..such as the mountains,

-oceans, rivers and lakes.

0:16:430:16:48

-The Plas Menai National Outdoor

-Centre hosts an array of courses.

0:16:480:16:54

-One young lady from Bethesda leapt

-at the chance to do some sailing.

0:16:550:17:03

-She's only 18 but has already

-got a long list of achievements.

0:17:030:17:08

-I've had some success

-and represented Wales and Britain.

0:17:090:17:15

-I won a bronze medal at

-the Topper World Championships...

0:17:160:17:20

-..and represented Britain in

-an event that's like the Olympics...

0:17:200:17:25

-..with one boat from each country

-and I'd love to do that again.

0:17:250:17:31

-I won a bronze medal in Europe and

-was fifth in the world in Japan...

0:17:320:17:36

-..so I feel like

-I'm slowly improving.

0:17:360:17:39

-When did you first get involved

-in sailing?

0:17:400:17:43

-I started sailing when I was young

-and remember holidays at Bala Lake.

0:17:430:17:48

-I got my own boat and sailed three

-miles out to sea when I was seven.

0:17:480:17:54

-My friend also had a boat

-and we'd go out sailing and had fun.

0:17:550:18:00

-We went to Pwllheli and down

-the Menai Straits to Y Felinheli.

0:18:000:18:06

-People only think of Welsh mountains

-but our coast is ideal for sailing.

0:18:060:18:12

-I've worked for the Royal Yachting

-Association in Wales for five years.

0:18:160:18:22

-I've followed Mari's sailing career

-very closely.

0:18:220:18:25

-She's moved through the classes,

-has represented Wales and Britain...

0:18:260:18:30

-..been the Welsh and British

-champion and travelled the world.

0:18:300:18:38

-It's been a great start

-to her sailing career.

0:18:380:18:42

-Mari's next step is to win a place

-in the British sailing team...

0:18:430:18:48

-..so that she can compete

-in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.

0:18:480:18:52

-In 2012, she carried the Olympic

-Torch over the Menai Bridge...

0:18:530:18:59

-..but has her sights on a medal.

0:18:590:19:02

-First,

-she needs something very important.

0:19:020:19:08

-Before you can reach the Olympics

-in Tokyo, you need a boat...

0:19:110:19:16

-..but it has to be

-a very special type of boat.

0:19:160:19:22

-Yes, it's complicated,

-large and expensive.

0:19:220:19:27

-I currently travel seven hours to

-Weymouth to train for the Olympics.

0:19:270:19:33

-The site was used for the

-London Olympic Games in 2012.

0:19:330:19:37

-It's the team's training ground.

0:19:370:19:41

-Therefore, it's essential

-that I get a boat.

0:19:410:19:45

-It's very expensive and you're

-asking for help to reach Tokyo.

0:19:450:19:50

-Yes, people can contact me

-via Facebook, Twitter or email.

0:19:510:19:58

-Any support is gratefully received.

0:19:580:20:01

-You've carried the Olympic Torch

-but want to get hold of a medal.

0:20:010:20:06

-Yes, I'd love to have a gold medal

-to accompany the torch.

0:20:060:20:11

-You're on the right path so

-we wish you the very best of luck.

0:20:110:20:15

-Thank you very much.

0:20:150:20:18

-Good luck to Mari.

0:20:220:20:25

-It's time for Shan and me to call

-one lucky viewer in Fancy A Fortune?

0:20:250:20:29

-# Fancy A Fortune? #

0:20:290:20:33

-Shan Cothi joins me to spin

-the wheel in Fancy A Fortune?

0:20:340:20:37

-I've got the all-important

-phone numbers here.

0:20:370:20:41

-Let's get dialling.

0:20:410:20:51

-I need to concentrate here.

0:20:540:20:58

-# Do you Fancy A Fortune? #

0:20:580:21:01

-Yes, please.

-There's nothing happening.

0:21:090:21:12

-I think I did something wrong.

0:21:120:21:15

-Take your time.

0:21:150:21:18

-She's got some big numbers to dial.

0:21:180:21:23

-No, it's not working.

0:21:230:21:28

-Let's try the next line.

0:21:280:21:33

-Would you like to call me?

0:21:330:21:43

-This is a mobile number.

0:21:430:21:45

-It's ringing.

0:21:460:21:48

-Hello?

0:21:480:21:51

-Hello, it's Llinos Lee

-from S4C's Heno.

0:21:510:21:54
