-Steffan Griffiths attends one of the

-biggest science festivals in Europe.

-It's held in Swansea University

-this week.

-who is part of a campaign...

-..to end the stigma

-of mental health in Wales.

-We start the evening on our bikes.

-Some of the world's best cyclists

-have been in Wales...

-..for this year's Tour of Britain.

-This morning,

-they started off in Denbigh...

-..on their way to the finish

-at the Showground in Llanelwedd.

-That's where Rhodri Gomer

-is waiting for us.

-Good evening, Rhodri.

-Over 217km from Denbigh to the

-Showground in Builth Wells...

-..with plenty of climbs

-along the way.

-For the Welsh, there's one special

-individual taking part in the tour.

-Owain Doull is a cyclist

-in Team Wiggins.

-Earlier, I chatted to Owain

-and Sir Bradley.

-Congratulations on what you

-accomplished at the Olympics in Rio.

-How much of a relief was it for you

-to win a gold medal?

-When you work towards something

-for three or four years...

-..the only option is gold and

-it was a big relief to win.

-You returned three weeks ago.

-Have you had the opportunity to

-celebrate with family and friends?

-I was fortunate to have some

-of my family in Rio.

-I haven't done a lot of cycling

-since returning...

-..but have managed to catch up with

-family and friends.

-This tour is proving harder

-that it did last year.

-You've already completed half of it,

-how has it been for you?

-Today hasn't been too bad, but the

-second day was incredibly difficult.

-I think I improve as the days go

-on and I'm enjoying it.

-You seem to be enjoying yourself

-on the Tour of Britain?

-The race is hard and it has been

-a tough week so far.

-We've seen the crowds every day and

-it has been fantastic.

-It's almost like a lap of honour,

-especially after the Olympics.

-The whole team has

-been well received...

-..and it's nice to spend half an

-hour with them after it's all done.

-How difficult has it been to adapt?

-You've concentrated on the track,

-but face eight days of road racing?

-You train the body to perform well

-for four minutes...

-..and move on to racing for five

-to six hours.

-This can prove to be very difficult.

-I haven't performed as well as last

-year, but I'm getting there.

-You came third last year and

-won the points race.

-What are your hopes for this year?

-My main aim is to help

-the other boys.

-Mark Christian is on the GC and

-some of the other boys are fast.

-I hope to finish the race...

-..before training for the

-World Championships.

-Sir Bradley is also

-a part of this team.

-Yesterday, we saw images of him

-running like Chris Froome.

-He seems to be happy and enjoying

-himself back in Britain.

-The team have a lot of fun,

-but we also take it seriously.

-What Bradley did a few days ago,

-sums up the entire team.

-What are your hopes for

-the rest of the season?

-The end of the month, I compete

-in a few races as part of Team Sky.

-I hope I'll be in better shape for

-that and I make a good impression.

-If I'm selected, I then could face

-the World Championships in Qatar.

-Later, I'll get a break, before

-taking on the road for Team Sky.

-can make a huge difference.

-Welcome to the programme.

-This is very important.

-More people need to help others.

-It's very easy to do.

-It can be as simple as sending a

-text or arranging to meet.

-It will make a world of difference.

-It's like you're trying to swim

-in rough waters.

-You have to decide

-whether you sink or swim.

-I can't emphasize enough

-how important it is to reach out.

-It's great knowing that you are not

-alone and people are there for you.

-It feels like someone

-has pulled you out of the waters.

-My name is Anya

-and I live with depression.

-The message is so simple.

-Do the small things

-that will help others.

-That was St David's message.

-If you see someone who

-is feeling down...

-..you have to ask them how they feel

-and listen to their answer.

-You have lived with depression for a

-long time.

-How have these little things helped

-you?

-I was diagnosed at the age of 16.

-I had a problem with my eyes.

-Over time, my eyesight is now worse.

-It's been very difficult but I am

-positive.

-The depression

-came along with the problem.

-There are things which I feel try

-and stop me from living my life.

-How has it affected the family?

-I didn't realize

-that Anya had depression.

-She is a person who can put on a

-brave face.

-There are many people who do this.

-People do hide their illness.

-It only puts more strain

-on the individual.

-We only noticed the depression

-in the past two or three years.

-We try and discuss things as a

-family and be there for Anya.

-We don't have to be with Anya all of

-the time.

-She's a very positive person.

-One in four suffer from depression.

-We all know someone who has a mental

-health issue.

-It isn't great to hea

-r that one in every four...

-..suffer from a mental health

-problem.

-Many are searching for help.

-It can be difficult to ask for help.

-I find it very difficult to do.

-If people approach me to help...

-..then it allows me to be honest

-about my feelings.

-There is a stigma surrounding mental

-health problems.

-What are the social media platforms?

-There's a hastag #estynllaw or

-#reachout.

-There's also a website,

-www.estynllaw.cymru...

-Anya knows a lot more that I do.

-A number of young people

-need people to help them...

-..and need someone to reach out to

-them.

-I fully understand as my son, Guto,

-started nursery school yesterday.

-Today, however,

-is a momentous day...

-..for the new Welsh school

-of Hafan y Mor in Tenby.

-It was opening its doors to pupils

-for the very first time.

-Alun Williams was at

-the school gates this morning.

-Welcome to this brand-new school,

-Ysgol Hafan y Mor.

-I have some very fond memories

-of being in school, so follow me.

-Today is a big day for us.

-We feel that we've accomplished

-some good work, one step at a time.

-My father always called for

-perseverance...

-..and I think it's paid off as we

-open the doors to Ysgol Hafan y Mor.

-We have three children who have,

-up to now, attended Welsh streams.

-Those streams grew...

-..and the county finally saw

-that a new school was needed.

-We have been working for almost two

-years for this day.

-Other people in the area have been

-working for much longer...

-..to see the new school

-opening its doors.

-I'm feeling a little bit nervous...

-..because I'm just about to visit

-Mrs Griffiths, the headteacher.

-I'm Alun and I've been a good boy.

-A gold star for you!

-I feel a bit nervous.

-It's an historical day

-and you must be very proud.

-what we have arrived at.

-A week ago, I thought I'd never

-be speaking to you.

-All kinds of things were piled up

-and building work still going on.

-As a team, we have managed

-to open the doors today.

-I enjoy the fact that everyone

-speaks Welsh at the school.

-I'm looking forward to cooking

-in the cookery room...

-..and playing with my friends

-in Welsh.

-I'm very happy that there's

-a Welsh school in Tenby...

-..because I can make new friends

-and speak Welsh with them.

-I like the new logo with the beach,

-sea, little red boat and the sun.

-I like the new colours because

-they're different to the old ones.

-Many parents

-tell me they're bitter...

-..that they didn't have the

-opportunity to learn Welsh.

-They now want their children

-to have bilingual education.

-I have definitely

-seen a change in attitudes.

-Some old fishing families

-from Tenby harbour...

-..are finally seeing the

-advantage of Welsh education.

-That will transform everything.

-Maybe we will finally

-see the end of the label...

-..Little England Beyond Wales.

-It was quite a battle to get

-children to join the units...

-..but once they started,

-the flow of children increased...

-..which has culminated

-in Ysgol Hafan y Mor.

-We wish you all the best.

-It's an historical day for me too.

-I've never been in the

-headteacher's office before.

-I am very surprised, Alun!

-about the British Science Festival.

-The oldest and most influential

-science festival in Europe...

-..is taking place

-at Swansea University this week.

-Steffan has been over there

-to see what's been happening.

-Welcome to Swansea University

-and the British Science Festival.

-It attracts 10,000 scientists

-and members of the public.

-Swansea University has done so much

-for science in Wales and Britain...

-..as I experienced earlier

-with Professor Siwan Davies.

-She's worked in some of the

-prettiest places in the world.

-Siwan is one of the

-leading scientists in her field...

-..and studies the past

-to understand the future.

-What do you do

-in your day-to-day research, Siwan?

-I specialize in volcanic ash

-which is very valuable.

-It helps us to understand the speed

-at which the climate has changed.

-I study volcanic ash from ice cores,

-mud from the sea and peat marshes.

-The ash helps us to put a date

-on the events of the past.

-Why is your work important to Wales

-and the rest of the world?

-My work deals with the speed and

-reasons behind changes in climate.

-It helps to predict what could

-happen in Wales and the world.

-How do you and Swansea's scientists

-feel about hosting this event?

-We're delighted that the festival

-is in Swansea this year.

-It's a massive event so we can

-showcase our pioneering research.

-This isn't a festival for experts

-but for the general public.

-It proves that science

-is accessible to everyone.

-I'll deliver a lecture on Friday

-and all are welcome.

-I'm now joined by Catrin Newman

-from Swansea University.

-What does it mean for the university

-to host this festival?

-It's wonderful and showcases the

-work of our researchers in Swansea.

-It also enables us to promote

-all the facilities on the campus.

-What else is happening

-during the week?

-There are activities all day

-until late on Friday.

-We have a massive party on the beach

-that is a stone's throw away.

-The party will be the pinnacle

-of the week.

-The activities include experiments

-based on chemistry and physics...

-..and the meaning of dreams.

-There's a psychology lecture asking

-if swearing in your mother tongue...

-..is more cathartic

-than swearing in another language.

-There really

-is something for everybody.

-Come to the festival

-whether you enjoy science or not.

-I've been to some of the lectures

-and they were brilliant!
