We are live on Edinburgh's Princes Street as the capital city looks

ahead to the end of 2012 and the start of a Brand New Year. Welcome

to Scotland's hog many live in Edinburgh. She is looking beautiful

tonight and has already got her party clothes on board one of the

biggest New Year parties in the world. Just look at the crowds.

Here and at midnight there will be 75,000 revellers on the streets

welcoming in 2013. Edinburgh's started its celebrations yesterday

with a fantastic torchlit procession through the city centre.

If you are not leaving your fireside, you can sit back and

enjoy the show as we bring the party to you. Coming up: A great

collection of musicians led by Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain, as

traditional as a black bun and a lump of coal, although I am not

sure which is which! How do you fancy a massive, Scotland wide

singalong of Auld Lang Syne. We will be getting everybody here and

in Stirling and Inverness and hopefully you at home to join us

after the bells. We will be bringing some of Scotland's

celebrations to you. In a moment we will eavesdrop on Inverness and at

11:30pm we will have an exclusive performance from the Proclaimers on

the Esplanade at Stirling Castle. Let's go over there now to Catriona

Shearer. A good evening and a very warm

welcome to the atmosphere here. The atmosphere is building beautifully.

You can see the band on stage tonight and they are warming the

crowd up beautifully, despite the weather. The snow has not kept the

crowds away and thousands of people are here and looking forward to

bringing in the bells at Stirling Castle. It would not be a party

without a good, hearty Scottish singalong. The masters of that are

no other than the Proclaimers. They are headlining Stirling castle's

celebrations this evening. I caught up with them for a chat. Charlie

and Craig Reid, hello and happy Hogmanay. It is a big night tonight,

not just because you are headlining the celebrations, but because it is

the culmination of your UK tour. How has that been? It has been very

good and the most successful we have ever had in terms of the

people turning up and the consistency. Tonight it is Hogmanay

and how do you feel about it? Excited. You get a bit of

trepidation beforehand, but when she have done the sound check it is

fine and I am looking forward to it. You have played some of the world's

best venues. What is it going to be like playing here? The advantage it

has over Edinburgh is you do not have stands on three sides.

Although you are open to the elements, it is even more

atmospheric. You could not get a better Esplanade on a castle, so a

great place. What do you think about tonight? Hogmanay is not

Hogmanay without a good, Scotty singalong acts which describes your

best. How are you feeling? I feel pretty good. A lot of our material

lends itself to people singing along to it. They all know the

words. We will be happy for people to join in. How do you celebrate

Hogmanay when you are not working? Not as big as I was when I was 16

or 17. I mostly stay quiet. We try and not to work every year are.

in the Highland capital? Something tells me Craig Hill is already

partying in Inverness. We are having the most fantastic year and

the atmosphere is amazing and the audience are going mental. It is a

wonderful place to come up for a new year. We have been going for

three hours already and we are very lucky because it has not rained. We

will be very excited to come back at 12 o'clock. We have had a

practice of Auld Lang Syne and everybody sounds in fine fettle.

The audience are amazing and it is a great atmosphere. Wherever you

We have got visitors from 55 countries from as far away as

Brazil and New Zealand, all in the capital and all here to see how the

Scots do Hogmanay. We will be bringing you one of the best

firework displays in the world and we will be kicking that off with a

lone piper. They are getting warm on the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle.

We will be asking all of you at home to help us welcome in the New

Year with that biggest singalong ever attempted, well, we think. All

that plus an emotional look at the year gone by. I hope you join us

later wherever you are, wherever you are from, with friends and

family, or even if you are having a quiet end to the year, we hope you

will let us entertain you all the way into 2013. Shall we take a

little look at the crowds? Look at that. An estimated up to 80,000

people here, as I said from all over the world. It is estimated

about two-thirds of them have come from far flung countries and they

are certainly ready for a party. We have had them dancing tonight and

we had even had a couple of streakers who went down very well,

and he learned a lot of points for bravery. They were moved along

fairly hastily. All of that to come and we hope to bring you the real
