ALL SING VARIOUS NOTES

0:00:370:00:39

..as Joe Jonas is our superstar judge.

0:00:390:00:43

Eating cake by the ocean is very difficult.

0:00:430:00:46

There's so much charisma and so much personality

0:00:460:00:49

and someone keeps winking at me.

0:00:490:00:50

# Right, I should have known you were bad news... #

0:00:500:00:53

That was next-level.

0:00:530:00:56

And tensions run high with the last two places in the live final

0:00:560:01:00

at stake.

0:01:000:01:02

I can see great vocal potential here. Serious? Yeah.

0:01:020:01:05

There's a little Riff-Off developing here.

0:01:050:01:07

Who will win tonight's heat

0:01:070:01:09

and who deserves the wild card place?

0:01:090:01:12

It's really hard. Come on, let's make a decision.

0:01:120:01:14

I think it's a good choice. OK, on your head be it.

0:03:540:03:56

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:03:560:03:58

Thank you so much to all of tonight's six amazing vocal groups,

0:04:260:04:31

and a big thanks to the musical genius

0:04:310:04:33

behind the Pitch Perfect movies -

0:04:330:04:35

our series musical director, Deke Sharon,

0:04:350:04:37

for that amazing rhythm mashup!

0:04:370:04:39

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Thank you.

0:04:390:04:42

Now, Deke, I must ask you -

0:04:420:04:44

what can we expect tonight from our phalanxes of larynxes?

0:04:440:04:49

I can't follow that!

0:04:490:04:52

Can't follow that.

0:04:520:04:53

We have wall-to-wall fun tonight, Mel.

0:04:530:04:55

69 amazing singers.

0:04:550:04:57

You want Motown? Check. Pop? Check.

0:04:570:05:00

Rock? Check. Opera? Check.

0:05:000:05:02

Musical theatre? Check. Get ready to par-tay.

0:05:020:05:05

Fantastic!

0:05:050:05:07

So tonight six of Britain and Ireland's best vocal groups

0:05:070:05:11

will battle it out in a series of vocal challenges.

0:05:110:05:14

Only one group will make it through to the live final, where they'll be

0:05:140:05:17

in with a chance of taking home the amazing ?50,000 cash prize!

0:05:170:05:21

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:05:210:05:23

But more important than that -

0:05:230:05:25

being crowned Champions of Pitch Battle 2017.

0:05:250:05:29

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:05:290:05:31

Deciding their fate is our very own triple threat, our judges.

0:05:330:05:37

She's the Brit Award-winning singer whose milkshake most

0:05:370:05:40

definitely brought all the boys to the yard - it's Kelis!

0:05:400:05:44

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:05:440:05:47

He's the choir master, the twisted choir master.

0:05:530:05:57

It's Gareth Malone!

0:05:570:05:59

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:05:590:06:01

Terrifying. Hello!

0:06:160:06:18

CHEERING

0:06:180:06:20

Simmer down, simmer down.

0:06:230:06:26

He's sold over 17 million records worldwide,

0:06:260:06:29

so let's lose our minds and go ruddy crazy - it's Joe Jonas!

0:06:290:06:33

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:06:330:06:37

I am very excited to be judging on Pitch Battle.

0:06:370:06:40

# Talk to me, baby... #

0:06:400:06:42

Being in a choir when I was younger,

0:06:420:06:44

then working with my brothers for years and having to find ways to

0:06:440:06:48

have the balance melodically, also the harmonies...I can relate

0:06:480:06:52

to what they're going through, especially the younger groups.

0:06:520:06:55

# Every night it's the one thing on my mind... #

0:06:550:06:58

The diversity of genres tonight is unbelievable.

0:06:580:07:01

It's going to be really amazing to see talented individuals that

0:07:010:07:04

really take on the challenge.

0:07:040:07:06

# Cake by the ocean... #

0:07:060:07:07

It's this week's superstar guest judge - Joe Jonas!

0:07:070:07:11

CHEERING

0:07:110:07:14

Joe, so good to see you.

0:07:310:07:33

Good to see you. Now, little bone to pick with you.

0:07:330:07:36

Cake by the ocean. Mm.

0:07:360:07:39

Have you ever eaten a Battenberg on Bournemouth Beach?

0:07:390:07:42

Eating a cake by the ocean is very difficult.

0:07:420:07:46

The sand gets into the sponge. I wouldn't recommend it.

0:07:460:07:50

Wouldn't recommend it. I just wanted to clear that up.

0:07:500:07:53

The first one, what's it called? Battenberg. OK.

0:07:530:07:56

I have never seen it either. Pink and yellow squares

0:07:560:07:59

held together with marzipan in a sort of cross.

0:07:590:08:01

It's got a lovely rise on it. It's a very delicious cake.

0:08:010:08:04

This isn't the cake show.

0:08:040:08:06

LAUGHTER AND APPLAUSE

0:08:060:08:08

Thank you so much, judges.

0:08:080:08:10

Right, it's time for battle one.

0:08:100:08:12

Our first two groups are about to perform their Showstopper

0:08:120:08:16

before going face-to-face in a thrilling Riff-Off.

0:08:160:08:20

CHEERING

0:08:200:08:23

Our judges here will decide which group packed the biggest vocal

0:08:230:08:26

punch and deserves to go through to the solo battles later on.

0:08:260:08:30

So let's meet tonight's two groups

0:08:300:08:31

gearing up for our first clash of choirs.

0:08:310:08:34

From Hertfordshire, it's Tring Park 16.

0:08:340:08:37

CHEERING

0:08:370:08:41

And from the West Midlands, it's Crescendo.

0:08:410:08:44

CHEERING

0:08:440:08:46

ALL: We're Tring Park 16.

0:08:460:08:48

A chamber choir from Tring Park School for the Performing Arts

0:08:480:08:51

in Hertfordshire. Tring Park is a really mad and crazy place to be.

0:08:510:08:55

We're all sixth-form students so we're all 17 and 18 years old.

0:08:550:08:58

We've seen some incredibly successful and famous people walk in

0:08:580:09:01

and out of its doors - Lily James, Daisy Ridley, Ella Henderson -

0:09:010:09:05

and we all want to follow in their footsteps.

0:09:050:09:07

Tring Park was a bit of a magical place.

0:09:090:09:11

In one room you could have ballet going on,

0:09:110:09:13

in the other you could have people playing the piano, saxophones.

0:09:130:09:16

You could say Tring Park was the Hogwarts of the performing arts.

0:09:160:09:19

Last year we were fortunate to take

0:09:190:09:21

part in BBC's Songs Of Praise Senior School Choir Of The Year,

0:09:210:09:25

which we eventually went on to win.

0:09:250:09:27

Entering this competition, it's really nice just to do

0:09:270:09:29

something different and sing more modern stuff that we listen to.

0:09:290:09:32

Do you think we're going to shock them, like, when we come on stage?

0:09:320:09:35

Mum will be shocked. Yeah.

0:09:350:09:37

People might expect a more classical sound but what we're bringing

0:09:370:09:40

to Pitch Battle is something quite fresh and exciting.

0:09:400:09:43

ALL: We're Crescendo!

0:09:470:09:49

Crescendo is a group of passionate musical theatre performers that love

0:09:490:09:52

to sing songs from the shows.

0:09:520:09:54

We're a diverse group. I'm a warehouse manager.

0:09:540:09:58

I work at a prison. I'm a hairdresser.

0:09:580:10:00

And I own a bacon factory. The best thing at rehearsal, for me,

0:10:000:10:04

is getting all of Sarah's bacon butties.

0:10:040:10:06

Come on, then, come and get your sandwiches.

0:10:060:10:08

It's amazing we get any rehearsing done!

0:10:080:10:11

ALL: # Be our guest... #

0:10:110:10:13

When we rehearse, we very rarely get the hall to ourselves.

0:10:130:10:17

There's usually people having a listen

0:10:170:10:19

and they seem to really enjoy it.

0:10:190:10:20

# Be our guest, be our guest... #

0:10:200:10:23

We know that we could be up against more professional groups but

0:10:230:10:26

between us we've got the passion to give anyone a run for their money.

0:10:260:10:30

CHEERING

0:10:300:10:31

APPLAUSE

0:10:340:10:36

First, and hoping to impress our judges

0:10:390:10:41

with their Showstopper, Believer,

0:10:410:10:43

it's our chamber choir, Tring Park 16.

0:10:430:10:47

# Hoo Hey, ha, hey!

0:10:500:10:52

# Hoo Hey, ha, hey!

0:10:520:10:54

# First things first I'mma say all the words inside my head

0:10:540:10:59

# Second things second

0:11:100:11:12

# Don't you tell me what you think that I could be

0:11:120:11:15

# I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea, oh

0:11:150:11:19

# Ooh-oooh

0:11:190:11:21

# The master of my sea, oh

0:11:210:11:23

# Ooh-ooh

0:11:230:11:26

# I was broken from a young age

0:11:260:11:28

# Taking my sulking to the masses

0:11:280:11:30

# Writing my poems for the few

0:11:300:11:32

# That look to me, took to me, shook to me, feeling me

0:11:320:11:34

# Singing from heartache from the pain... #

0:11:340:11:36

I quite like this!

0:11:360:11:38

# Speaking my lesson from the brain

0:11:380:11:40

# Seeing the beauty through the

0:11:400:11:44

# Pain

0:11:440:11:45

# You made me a You made me a believer

0:11:450:11:48

# Believer

0:11:480:11:51

# Pain

0:11:510:11:53

# You made me a You made me a believer

0:11:530:11:56

# Believer

0:11:560:12:00

# Pain

0:12:000:12:01

# You made me a You made me a believer

0:12:010:12:04

# Believer

0:12:040:12:07

# Pain

0:12:070:12:09

# You made me a You made me a believer

0:12:090:12:13

# Believer Oh-oh-oh. #

0:12:130:12:17

CHEERING

0:12:170:12:19

Well, I'm a believer.

0:12:270:12:28

But before we hear from our judges, here is their competition.

0:12:280:12:31

Singing their Showstopper, a Motown medley,

0:12:310:12:34

it's our musical theatre group, Crescendo!

0:12:340:12:38

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:12:380:12:42

# Ooh, yeah, baby

0:12:420:12:45

# Like a fool I went and stayed too long

0:12:450:12:49

# Now I'm wondering if your love's still strong

0:12:490:12:52

# Ooh, baby, here I am

0:12:520:12:55

# Signed, sealed, delivered I'm yours

0:12:550:12:57

# Waaah

0:12:590:13:01

# Then that time I went and said goodbye

0:13:010:13:05

# Now I'm back and not ashamed to cry

0:13:050:13:08

# Ooh

0:13:080:13:11

# Baby, I need your loving

0:13:110:13:13

# Got to have all your loving

0:13:130:13:17

# Baby, I need your loving

0:13:170:13:21

# Got to have all your loving

0:13:210:13:24

# Feel like you can't go on Can't go on

0:13:240:13:27

# Cos of all your hope is gone All your hope is gone

0:13:270:13:30

# And your life's filled with much confusion

0:13:300:13:34

# Because your happiness is just an illusion

0:13:340:13:36

# Happiness is just an illusion

0:13:360:13:38

# And your world around is crumblin' down

0:13:380:13:41

# Well, darling, reach out

0:13:410:13:45

# Reach out Reach out for me

0:13:450:13:48

# I'll be there

0:13:480:13:52

# With a love that will shelter you

0:13:520:13:55

# I'll be there

0:13:550:13:58

# With a love that will see you through

0:13:580:14:02

# Ooh, I'll be there

0:14:020:14:06

# Signed, sealed, delivered

0:14:060:14:10

# I'll be there. #

0:14:100:14:14

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:14:140:14:16

I love that.

0:14:210:14:22

I love that. Amazing.

0:14:240:14:27

That was good. I'm so happy.

0:14:270:14:29

What a cracking start that was!

0:14:350:14:38

Now, Tring 16, I know that your teacher is around, isn't she?

0:14:380:14:42

Mrs Norris? Hello! Aww!

0:14:420:14:46

How did you feel about their performance?

0:14:480:14:50

I thought they were absolutely amazing.

0:14:500:14:52

I thought they really, really nailed it and it gave me goose bumps

0:14:520:14:55

and made me really proud.

0:14:550:14:57

Aww!

0:14:570:14:59

She liked it, gang, well done.

0:14:590:15:01

Well done, all of you.

0:15:010:15:02

Now, I know that you're a prison manager.

0:15:040:15:09

Have you brought the cuffs with you tonight?

0:15:090:15:12

They're in the dressing room, yeah.

0:15:120:15:16

Who are you going to be cuffing tonight?

0:15:160:15:19

Haven't decided yet.

0:15:190:15:22

She's got her eye on Malone, I can see it.

0:15:220:15:24

Listen, a very, very good start on both sides.

0:15:270:15:30

Kelis, is there a frontrunner for you?

0:15:300:15:32

They're so different. I was actually really wowed by Tring Park 16.

0:15:320:15:36

You guys are very committed, it's very serious, I love it.

0:15:360:15:39

I kind of felt your angst a little bit

0:15:390:15:41

so I think, just for the Riff-Off,

0:15:410:15:43

take a deep breath, you got through the first part, it was fantastic.

0:15:430:15:47

And then for Crescendo, I feel like you have really great vocal control

0:15:470:15:51

and every time there was a soloist,

0:15:510:15:53

I felt like it wasn't over-singing, it was just exactly what we wanted.

0:15:530:15:56

I think my own note for you guys would be keep the rhythm.

0:15:560:15:59

These things have a nice swing to them so just be mindful of that.

0:15:590:16:03

But I loved the performance. Very excited to see both groups.

0:16:030:16:07

Lovely, Kelis.

0:16:070:16:08

Now, Gareth, did Crescendo sign, seal and deliver for you

0:16:080:16:12

and are you a believer in Tring Park 16?

0:16:120:16:14

I am. Honestly, if I'd been in something that cool and fun...

0:16:140:16:18

My school choir was not that cool.

0:16:180:16:20

I heard hints of the choral sound and I wanted more of that.

0:16:200:16:24

I thought if you're a chamber choir, let's hear some real choral music.

0:16:240:16:27

So I hope that in the Riff-Off, you've got something a little more,

0:16:270:16:30

you know, rich and sonorous.

0:16:300:16:32

And then we have Crescendo. Lots of vocal experience.

0:16:320:16:35

You've been working on that sound very hard.

0:16:350:16:37

You've come out here and done medleys.

0:16:370:16:39

It's tough because you have a very short space of time to win us over

0:16:390:16:42

and I can just be getting into a song and you change it up.

0:16:420:16:45

You've really gotta handle the energy right

0:16:450:16:47

and I thought you did that very well, so that's good.

0:16:470:16:50

Now that's the Motown thing - I want to see what else you've got.

0:16:500:16:53

Now, Joe, what advice would you give to the two groups

0:16:530:16:56

before they meet each other again the old Riff-Offery?

0:16:560:16:59

Just enjoy, settle.

0:16:590:17:01

Obviously there's a lot of nerves, being on that stage.

0:17:010:17:04

I think being out there by yourself is probably a very vulnerable thing

0:17:040:17:07

but you held your own.

0:17:070:17:08

And Crescendo... Damn, Daniel.

0:17:080:17:11

LAUGHTER AND APPLAUSE

0:17:110:17:14

I will say the spotlight definitely wasn't on Daniel.

0:17:140:17:17

I mean, everyone had a moment where they showed their vocals

0:17:170:17:19

and that was pretty impressive. Good words, gang.

0:17:190:17:21

OK, only one group will go through to the solo battles later tonight,

0:17:210:17:25

the other is about to be knocked out of the competition.

0:17:250:17:28

Deciding their fate is the themed Riff-Off.

0:17:280:17:32

AUDIENCE: Whoo!

0:17:320:17:35

So let us now reveal your theme.

0:17:350:17:38

AUDIENCE: Oooh...!

0:17:410:17:44

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:17:470:17:49

Well, the theme is Trouble.

0:17:490:17:52

If there is any trouble, Jodyne is here, very much

0:17:520:17:55

just ready to deal with any situation.

0:17:550:17:59

Good luck, guys, in the Riff-Off.

0:17:590:18:01

# I knew you were trouble when you walked in

0:18:090:18:13

# So shame on me now

0:18:130:18:16

# Flew me to places I'd never been

0:18:160:18:19

ALL: # Now I'm lying on the cold hard ground

0:18:190:18:22

# Oh, oh, oh

0:18:220:18:25

# Trouble, trouble, trouble

0:18:250:18:28

# I knew you were trouble when you walked in

0:18:280:18:32

# Trouble Trouble, trouble

0:18:320:18:34

# I knew you were trouble when you walked in

0:18:340:18:38

# Trouble Trouble, trouble. #

0:18:380:18:41

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:18:410:18:43

# Trouble troublemaker, yeah, that's your middle name

0:18:430:18:46

# Whoa-ho-ho

0:18:460:18:48

# I know you're no good but you're stuck in my brain

0:18:480:18:51

# Whoa, whoa, whoa And I wanna know

0:18:510:18:53

ALL: # Why does it feel so good but hurt so bad?

0:18:530:18:55

# Whoa

0:18:550:18:57

# My mind keeps saying Run as fast as you can

0:18:570:19:00

# Troublemaker

0:19:000:19:01

# I say I'm done but, babe, you pull me back

0:19:010:19:05

# Whoa-oh-oh

0:19:050:19:06

# I swear you're giving me a heart attack

0:19:060:19:09

# Troublemaker. #

0:19:090:19:11

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:19:110:19:13

# I'm on your side

0:19:130:19:18

# Oh, when times get rough

0:19:180:19:23

# And friends just can't be found

0:19:230:19:29

# Like a bridge over troubled water

0:19:290:19:36

# I will lay me down

0:19:360:19:40

# Like a bridge over troubled water Like a bridge over troubled water

0:19:400:19:47

# I will ease your mind. #

0:19:470:19:54

Very good! That was great.

0:19:540:19:58

# I never meant to cause you trouble

0:19:580:20:03

# I never meant to do you wrong

0:20:050:20:10

# Oh, no

0:20:130:20:14

# I see I see

0:20:140:20:18

BOTH: # A spider web and it's me in the middle

0:20:180:20:22

ALL: # Whoa-oh-oh-oh

0:20:220:20:25

# I never meant to cause you trouble

0:20:250:20:32

# Oh, no, I never meant to do you wrong. #

0:20:320:20:38

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:20:380:20:41

# Right, I should have known you were bad news

0:20:410:20:43

# From the bad boy demeanour and the tattoos

0:20:430:20:45

# Cos most guys only want one thing

0:20:450:20:47

# But I'm undecided, trying to figure out if that's you

0:20:470:20:50

# Either way, though, I think you're worth a test drive

0:20:500:20:52

# So much better than the next guy

0:20:520:20:54

# And a little trouble only makes for a good time

0:20:540:20:57

# So all the normal red flags be a good sign

0:20:570:20:59

ALL: # Don't you come here thinking about it

0:20:590:21:02

# Ain't that far

0:21:020:21:04

# Seem like trouble to me

0:21:040:21:07

# I can tell by the way that you lean

0:21:070:21:10

# And the way that you kiss your teeth

0:21:100:21:12

# And you turn up so flashy clean

0:21:120:21:14

# Smells like trouble to me. #

0:21:140:21:18

# When will somebody save me? When will somebody save me?

0:21:180:21:22

# I got trouble with my baby

0:21:220:21:24

# She got trouble with her baby

0:21:240:21:25

# Cos I know I know

0:21:250:21:27

# I do I do

0:21:270:21:29

# Too much Too much

0:21:290:21:30

# For you I got trouble with my baby

0:21:300:21:32

# Got trouble with my baby

0:21:320:21:34

# I can't go on like this

0:21:340:21:37

# Mama said there'd be days like this

0:21:370:21:40

# Now the whole world knows

0:21:400:21:42

# I got trouble with my baby

0:21:420:21:44

# Trouble with my baby

0:21:440:21:45

# Trouble with my baby

0:21:450:21:47

# Trouble with my baby

0:21:470:21:48

# Trouble with my baby. #

0:21:480:21:51

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:21:510:21:53

Oh, yeah! I think the judges are the ones who are in trouble right now.

0:22:030:22:06

That was pretty amazing watching two different generations of high-energy

0:22:060:22:10

performers bring it on both sides.

0:22:100:22:12

Tring had backflips and rap but it was when they pulled down to

0:22:120:22:16

those choral harmonies that I think they really threw that sucker punch.

0:22:160:22:19

And on the other hand we had sequins and wagging fingers

0:22:190:22:22

and all kinds of attitude.

0:22:220:22:24

What's it going to be - youthful exuberance?

0:22:240:22:26

Is it going to be seasoned polish?

0:22:260:22:28

It's in your hands, judges.

0:22:280:22:31

I love it when you say "sucker punch."

0:22:310:22:34

MIMICS HIM: Sucker punch.

0:22:340:22:36

Liam, that was extraordinary.

0:22:360:22:38

How do you sing like that and then produce a flick-flack?

0:22:380:22:43

A lot of work and practice.

0:22:430:22:47

Guys, that was absolutely brilliant.

0:22:470:22:50

Now, hello, Tom. Hello, how are you? Very good indeed.

0:22:500:22:54

Now, how was that for you? What do you make of this side?

0:22:540:22:57

They were coming at you, weren't they?

0:22:570:23:00

There was a lot of attitude there. Yeah, they were fantastic.

0:23:000:23:03

Absolutely brilliant. But hopefully us old people, you know, brought it.

0:23:030:23:08

Can I just say, I very much enjoyed the bit

0:23:080:23:12

when you gave "Damn, Daniel" a slap across the face!

0:23:120:23:15

Did you catch that bit, judges? She gave him a whack round the face.

0:23:150:23:19

No, could we see it again? I'm sorry, I missed it.

0:23:190:23:22

Gareth, there was, quite literally, double trouble going up here.

0:23:230:23:27

We really enjoyed it.

0:23:270:23:28

If I start with Crescendo, you just make excellent tone choices,

0:23:280:23:32

so when you need to be sinewy and thin,

0:23:320:23:34

you're doing these very thin "Ahh" in the background,

0:23:340:23:37

and then you brought it out to a lovely, rich "Ohh!"

0:23:370:23:39

It's quite sonorous.

0:23:390:23:41

I thought that was very stylish, so very well done.

0:23:410:23:44

Moving over to Tring Park 16.

0:23:440:23:46

Wow! Secret weapon - Matt, the rap, totally not expecting that.

0:23:460:23:51

That was great fun.

0:23:510:23:53

Listen, I have been waiting for a choir to sing in eight parts

0:23:530:23:58

and you did.

0:23:580:23:59

For 16-, 17-, 18-year-olds to sing like that,

0:23:590:24:02

I thought it was really lovely.

0:24:020:24:03

They weren't all perfectly executed but, boy, there was

0:24:030:24:07

a lot of variety, so very well done.

0:24:070:24:09

Kelis, what are your thoughts right now?

0:24:090:24:11

Well, you know, I really do think that Gareth kind of took all of

0:24:110:24:14

the words right out of my mouth - I think he's been reading my notes.

0:24:140:24:19

Crescendo, you guys are so spot-on.

0:24:190:24:22

You kind of put the heart at ease

0:24:220:24:24

and I really enjoy watching you,

0:24:240:24:26

I think you are a lot of fun to watch.

0:24:260:24:29

I was absolutely blown away with Tring Park 16.

0:24:290:24:32

You showed your versatility here, you nailed it.

0:24:320:24:35

Now, Joe, anyone troubling you up here?

0:24:350:24:37

So much trouble as well, yeah.

0:24:370:24:39

Tring Park, the energy level was through the roof.

0:24:390:24:43

You literally showed us every style of music,

0:24:430:24:46

which was really impressive.

0:24:460:24:47

Joe, with the vocals, I was really impressed.

0:24:470:24:49

With a name like that, I assumed you'd be...

0:24:490:24:52

LAUGHTER

0:24:520:24:54

Crescendo, obviously you deliver.

0:24:540:24:56

You guys also had some dance moves, too, which was really impressive.

0:24:560:25:00

Yeah, overall, it's really tough to say.

0:25:000:25:03

You both sounded so wonderful.

0:25:030:25:06

Aw, thanks, Joe. Thank you.

0:25:060:25:08

Now, a profiterole by the ocean is fine, Joe. That's fine.

0:25:080:25:12

Doughnut? Not sure. Profiterole, I'm good with.

0:25:120:25:17

So only one group can go through to tonight's solo battles.

0:25:170:25:22

Joe, which group would you like to see going through to

0:25:240:25:28

tonight's solo battles?

0:25:280:25:29

Tring Park.

0:25:330:25:34

Well done, guys.

0:25:350:25:37

Gareth, who do you think deserves a place in those solo battles?

0:25:430:25:46

I've got to say, this was a very difficult one.

0:25:460:25:49

Both of you were great. But I am going to go for...

0:25:490:25:52

..Tring Park 16.

0:25:560:25:57

Kelis, out of interest, who would you have chosen?

0:26:060:26:09

Obviously I absolutely loved Crescendo

0:26:090:26:12

but I ended up picking Tring Park 16 as well.

0:26:120:26:15

OK. Listen, we're going to be very, very sad

0:26:150:26:17

to say goodbye to you, Crescendo.

0:26:170:26:19

You've brought real vim, vigour and life to proceedings.

0:26:190:26:23

Thank you so, so much.

0:26:230:26:24

We've loved having you here but going though...is Tring Park 16!

0:26:280:26:34

CHEERING

0:26:340:26:38

But the question - who will be joining you?

0:26:380:26:41

It's time for battle two.

0:26:410:26:42

Let's meet our next groups ready to go head-to-head on Pitch Battle.

0:26:420:26:46

From London, it's Vocalities.

0:26:460:26:49

And from Dublin, it's The Ramparts.

0:26:530:26:56

We are... ALL: Vocalities!

0:27:000:27:04

We're a seven-piece group from all over Europe.

0:27:040:27:06

Norway! Lithuania! Portugal! Norway! Italy! Estonia! England!

0:27:060:27:12

We're coming together for Pitch Battle.

0:27:130:27:15

Got the support of our six countries and we really want to do them proud.

0:27:150:27:19

Kerli and I are best friends.

0:27:190:27:21

We started recording covers and putting them up on social media.

0:27:210:27:25

And we started inviting these guys over for guest solo spots.

0:27:250:27:29

And then we formed this super group, Vocalities.

0:27:290:27:33

We all miss our countries. That's what brought us together.

0:27:330:27:37

Hi!

0:27:370:27:38

But what we miss the most is the food.

0:27:380:27:41

Everyone brings dishes from their own countries.

0:27:410:27:43

I still need to make toad in the hole. Toad in a hole?

0:27:430:27:47

Girls, here's to a Showstopper!

0:27:470:27:49

We're The Ramparts, from Dublin, Ireland.

0:27:570:27:59

CHEERING

0:27:590:28:01

We were set up about two years ago and we've grown ever since.

0:28:010:28:04

We're a group of lads with a passion for singing barbershop harmony.

0:28:040:28:08

Sometimes we go busking on Grafton Street.

0:28:110:28:14

We sing trad Irish songs, folk songs, pop songs.

0:28:140:28:18

Any type of song!

0:28:180:28:20

With bands like U2, Thin Lizzy,

0:28:200:28:23

maybe we'll be the next big thing outta Ireland.

0:28:230:28:26

This is definitely the biggest thing we've ever done.

0:28:260:28:28

Going to give it everything.

0:28:280:28:30

And you know what? I think we might make it the whole way to the final.

0:28:300:28:33

CHEERING

0:28:330:28:34

APPLAUSE

0:28:400:28:42

Up first, with their Showstopper, the Adele classic Send My Love,

0:28:430:28:48

it's our all-female vocal group, Vocalities!

0:28:480:28:52

SHE MIMICS BEAT

0:29:000:29:03

# This was all you, none of it me

0:29:030:29:06

# You put your hands all over my body and told me

0:29:060:29:10

# Told me

0:29:100:29:11

# Ummm

0:29:110:29:13

# That was what you told me

0:29:130:29:15

# I'm giving you up

0:29:150:29:18

# I've forgiven it all

0:29:180:29:21

# You set me free

0:29:210:29:25

# Hey!

0:29:250:29:26

# Send my love to your new lover

0:29:260:29:29

# Treat her better

0:29:290:29:31

# We gotta let go of all of our ghosts

0:29:310:29:34

# We both know we ain't kids no more... #

0:29:340:29:37

Nice.

0:29:370:29:39

# If you're ready

0:29:390:29:40

# If you're ready, I am ready

0:29:400:29:43

# If you're ready I'm ready

0:29:430:29:45

# We both know we ain't kids no more

0:29:450:29:48

# I'm giving you up

0:29:480:29:52

# I've forgiven it all

0:29:520:29:55

# You set me free

0:29:550:29:58

# Hey!

0:29:580:30:00

# Send my love to your new lover If you're ready

0:30:000:30:02

# If you're ready Treat her better

0:30:020:30:05

# If you're ready Gotta let go

0:30:050:30:08

# We both know we ain't kids no more

0:30:080:30:11

# Send my love to your new lover If you're ready

0:30:110:30:14

# If you're ready Treat her better

0:30:140:30:16

# If you're ready Gotta let go

0:30:160:30:19

# We both know we ain't kids no more

0:30:190:30:22

# Ooh. #

0:30:220:30:25

OK. Yeah, very good!

0:30:250:30:26

Wow! I want to be in Vocalities.

0:30:360:30:39

Girl power!

0:30:390:30:40

But your competition are ready and raring to go.

0:30:400:30:43

Performing their Showstopper, Shape Of You,

0:30:430:30:46

it's our barbershop chorus - boy power! -

0:30:460:30:50

it's The Ramparts!

0:30:500:30:51

# Doot-do, a-root-do, a-root do

0:30:570:31:02

# The club isn't the best place to find a lover

0:31:020:31:04

# So the bar is where I go

0:31:040:31:05

# Me and my friends at the table doing shots

0:31:050:31:08

# Drinking fast and then we talk slow

0:31:080:31:10

# Come over and start up a conversation with just me

0:31:100:31:13

# And trust me I'll give it a chance now

0:31:130:31:15

# Take my hand, stop, put Van the Man on the jukebox

0:31:150:31:17

# And then we start to dance and now I'm singing like

0:31:170:31:20

# Girl, I want your love

0:31:200:31:22

# Your love was handmade for somebody like me

0:31:220:31:25

# Come on now, follow my lead

0:31:250:31:27

# I may be crazy, don't mind me

0:31:270:31:29

# Say, boy, let's not talk too much

0:31:290:31:32

# Grab on my waist and put that body on me

0:31:320:31:35

# Come on now, follow my lead

0:31:350:31:37

# Come on now, follow my lead

0:31:370:31:38

# I'm in love with the shape of you

0:31:390:31:42

# We push and pull like a magnet do

0:31:420:31:44

# Although my heart is falling, too

0:31:440:31:47

# I'm in love with your body

0:31:470:31:49

# And last night you were in my room

0:31:490:31:51

# And now my bedsheets smell like you

0:31:510:31:54

# Every day discovering something brand-new

0:31:540:31:56

# I'm in love with your body

0:31:560:31:58

# Oh-ah, oh-ah, oh-ah, oh-ah

0:31:580:32:00

# I'm in love with your body

0:32:000:32:03

# Oh-ah, oh-ah, oh-ah, oh-ah

0:32:030:32:05

# I'm in love with the shape of you

0:32:050:32:07

# Come on, be my baby Come on

0:32:070:32:10

# Come on, be my baby Come on

0:32:100:32:12

# Come on, be my baby Come on

0:32:120:32:14

# Come on, be my baby

0:32:140:32:16

# Come on, be my baby Come on

0:32:160:32:19

# Come on, be my baby Come on

0:32:190:32:21

# Come on, be my baby Come on

0:32:210:32:24

# Come on

0:32:240:32:27

# I'm in love with the shape of you. #

0:32:270:32:30

Now, listen, this is rather amazing.

0:32:470:32:49

We've got the most incredible international group,

0:32:490:32:53

so, girls, I will say...

0:32:530:32:54

SHE SAYS HELLO IN VARIETY OF LANGUAGES

0:32:540:32:57

All right?

0:32:570:32:59

I might have missed one out, I'm sorry, Carina.

0:32:590:33:02

How do you say "hello" in Norway?

0:33:020:33:04

Hallo! Isn't that lovely?

0:33:040:33:06

Or hi!

0:33:060:33:07

So nice! Hallo! Hallo! Hallo!

0:33:070:33:12

Were you pleased with how that went? I was really happy, it was amazing.

0:33:120:33:16

It's so much fun to sing for you guys and...sing with you...

0:33:160:33:20

AUDIENCE: Aww!

0:33:200:33:22

LAUGHTER

0:33:220:33:26

Am I sensing a little bit of...? SHE CLICKS HER TONGUE

0:33:260:33:29

Well, not from me.

0:33:290:33:31

LAUGHTER

0:33:310:33:33

Not from you.

0:33:330:33:35

Not today, not tomorrow, not next week, not ever.

0:33:350:33:39

APPLAUSE

0:33:390:33:42

Was that too much? Not at all! Never too much, Adam.

0:33:420:33:45

Not from the Irish anyway.

0:33:450:33:47

I'm loving your... Is this a lucky earring?

0:33:470:33:49

It's not lucky, it was literally two euro.

0:33:490:33:53

And everyone keeps talking about it.

0:33:530:33:56

I tried to convince the lads to get them as well

0:33:560:33:58

but I don't think it's going to happen.

0:33:580:34:00

You've all got lovely, amazing, matching outfits.

0:34:000:34:03

I just feel like I'm part of a stag party.

0:34:030:34:07

LAUGHTER

0:34:070:34:09

CHEERING

0:34:090:34:11

Now, Gareth, it's a right royal battle of the sexes

0:34:130:34:17

going on up on stage.

0:34:170:34:19

Who are you siding with?

0:34:190:34:20

Talent on both sides, and very different.

0:34:200:34:23

We had a show

0:34:230:34:24

and then we had some really delicate moments from Vocalities.

0:34:240:34:28

I liked that you went from a lovely chord into a kind of drop,

0:34:280:34:31

that worked really well.

0:34:310:34:33

Lots of lovely voices, good blend, good sound. I want more.

0:34:330:34:37

APPLAUSE

0:34:370:34:39

Guys, geeks anonymous, it was fantastic.

0:34:390:34:42

It made me smile and that's really crucial. Little bits of harmony.

0:34:420:34:47

The harmony that you did do you pulled off, sounded really good.

0:34:470:34:50

It wasn't super difficult but it was well handled.

0:34:500:34:53

I think you've got trickier waters to navigate in the next stage

0:34:530:34:56

so I'll be intrigued to see if you can show me

0:34:560:34:58

a little more finesse, a little more depth.

0:34:580:35:00

Now, Joe, who needs to be showing you more?

0:35:000:35:05

They both showed off so much vocals.

0:35:050:35:06

I would say, you know, there's about 100 men up there, I don't know

0:35:060:35:10

how much more vocals you can show but I was really impressed.

0:35:100:35:14

It was simple but also complex on its own

0:35:140:35:17

and you guys really showed off what you can do.

0:35:170:35:19

And then for the ladies, your vocals were beautiful and delicate

0:35:190:35:22

and you all worked so well together

0:35:220:35:23

and being from all over the world it's really impressive

0:35:230:35:26

that you can do this in such unison, so I was really impressed.

0:35:260:35:31

So the girls with Adele, the guys with Ed Sheeran.

0:35:310:35:34

It's like the Brit Awards, isn't it?

0:35:340:35:36

Talking of Brit Award winners, Kelis,

0:35:360:35:40

is there a clear winner for you at the moment?

0:35:400:35:44

Well, thank you. First of all, you guys are so much fun.

0:35:440:35:47

There's so much charisma and so much personality

0:35:470:35:49

and someone keeps winking at me, I swear. Who's winking at Kelis?

0:35:490:35:54

Was it you?

0:35:540:35:55

LAUGHTER

0:35:550:35:58

You ladies, you guys have some amazing harmonies.

0:35:580:36:00

There was some moments that were so lush.

0:36:000:36:03

But pull back a little bit because your tone is great,

0:36:030:36:06

I just think that you're an alto, so you're in there and then

0:36:060:36:10

you've got these very, like, soft and beautiful, ethereal voices.

0:36:100:36:13

And so I just wanna hear that blend a little bit more.

0:36:130:36:17

But...so good. You guys killed it, it was great. Thank you, judges.

0:36:170:36:20

One of these groups is about to be knocked out of the competition.

0:36:200:36:23

One of these groups is about to be knocked out of the competition.

0:36:240:36:24

AUDIENCE: Whoo!

0:36:250:36:27

Theme, oh, Theme Machine, I'm looking for a Theme Machine

0:36:270:36:31

to reveal...

0:36:310:36:33

It's too long, isn't it? Let's just reveal the theme.

0:36:330:36:37

AUDIENCE: Ooh...!

0:36:390:36:42

CHEERING

0:36:450:36:47

Weddings.

0:36:470:36:49

Pull out the stopper, let's have a whopper,

0:36:490:36:53

but get me to the church on...

0:36:530:36:55

Is that not going to feature, is it? No, that won't feature.

0:36:550:36:58

Let's hope the judges say "I do" after this Riff-Off.

0:36:580:37:02

I'm just going to have a think about what I've done, singing that song.

0:37:020:37:06

Good luck in the Riff-Off, everybody. Good luck!

0:37:060:37:09

0:39:490:39:53

0:40:240:40:26

# Should've, should've

0:40:260:40:28

# Oh-oh-oh, it should've been me. #

0:40:280:40:31

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:40:310:40:34

Oh, yeah! That was next-level.

0:40:400:40:44

On one side, the single ladies stacked up their vocal harmonies,

0:40:440:40:48

threw a bunch of sass in there.

0:40:480:40:49

On the other side, we had a whole bunch of cheeky guys

0:40:490:40:52

who went deep with group vocals and over-the-top choreography.

0:40:520:40:56

And did you notice, Mel, that together they told a story?

0:40:560:41:00

It started with single ladies and then we had a proposal,

0:41:000:41:03

going to the chapel, I do, and then in the end it should have been me.

0:41:030:41:07

Something pretty incredible they made together and I get

0:41:070:41:09

the sense that's not the last thing they're going to making together.

0:41:090:41:13

Now, girls, listen,

0:41:130:41:16

up against quite a few testosterone, bowtie-clad lads.

0:41:160:41:21

How did it feel? Was it a tough competition?

0:41:210:41:23

We had so much fun with this battle but...girls have to win.

0:41:230:41:27

CHEERING

0:41:290:41:31

They're laying down the gauntlet.

0:41:310:41:33

Now, listen, that is a beautiful, rich voice. How low can you go?

0:41:350:41:40

DEEP VOICE: # Well, I can go pretty low. #

0:41:400:41:45

That's impressive. That's impressive.

0:41:450:41:49

Now, Joe, which of the two groups will always be a bridesmaid

0:41:490:41:53

and who's going to be the bride tonight, do you think?

0:41:530:41:57

This was actually pretty tough to call.

0:41:570:41:59

It became dance-off at one point. Yes!

0:41:590:42:03

But the gentlemen, the charisma is at a high level.

0:42:030:42:05

Is it Sean?

0:42:050:42:07

Sean, I was really impressed, that voice came out of nowhere.

0:42:070:42:10

And what about Vocalities?

0:42:100:42:11

They had some secret dance moves in their pockets, too, I saw.

0:42:110:42:14

But the song choices were really strong as well.

0:42:140:42:17

Kelis? It was really entertaining to watch.

0:42:170:42:20

I mean, Vocalities, I think you guys have some gorgeous harmonies

0:42:200:42:23

and some really beautiful vocal aerobatics you were doing.

0:42:230:42:26

There were so many harmonies

0:42:260:42:27

that I think you guys really pulled them off very nicely.

0:42:270:42:30

It's going to be tricky, I can sense.

0:42:300:42:32

Gareth, our very own father of the bride,

0:42:320:42:35

who would you like to see live happily ever after?

0:42:350:42:39

I'm going to start with Vocalities. Well done.

0:42:390:42:42

I really admired some of your harmonies.

0:42:420:42:44

I admired your vocal energy.

0:42:440:42:46

I felt like the dance moves were maybe something new for you?

0:42:460:42:50

Yeah, and that's difficult because you are up against a group of lads

0:42:500:42:53

who've just, I mean, you know, their sense of shame has just gone.

0:42:530:42:56

And they're just going for it!

0:42:560:43:00

They agree!

0:43:000:43:02

And I love that. I absolutely loved that.

0:43:020:43:04

But that makes it very difficult for you because even

0:43:040:43:07

when you were singing your socks off and you were singing beautifully,

0:43:070:43:10

my eye was going to you

0:43:100:43:12

because you were just popping off the stage in terms of energy,

0:43:120:43:15

and I think as a performer, you've always got to be

0:43:150:43:18

upping your game, adding, adding.

0:43:180:43:20

If you see someone giving you more, you've gotta give them more.

0:43:200:43:23

That's a tough lesson to learn.

0:43:230:43:24

If I come to you, Ramparts, it was party time.

0:43:240:43:27

It was a Ram-party!

0:43:270:43:29

CHEERING

0:43:290:43:31

It was. The harmony was so much better in that.

0:43:310:43:33

I thought the Going To The Chapel, that really worked for you,

0:43:330:43:36

that's absolutely your genre.

0:43:360:43:39

Very good, but two very, very different performances.

0:43:390:43:42

OK, thank you so much, judges.

0:43:420:43:43

I'm afraid there is only one place left in the next round.

0:43:430:43:48

Gareth, which group would you like to see going through

0:43:500:43:53

to the solo battles?

0:43:530:43:54

It's not all about tone, it's about performance as well.

0:43:540:43:58

For me, The Ramparts had that.

0:44:010:44:03

Joe, who would you like to send through to those solo battles?

0:44:090:44:12

Have to go with Ramparts on this one, yeah.

0:44:160:44:19

Kelis, who would you have gone for? It's a Ramparts party.

0:44:240:44:29

Listen, Vocalities, it's been so lovely having you here.

0:44:290:44:32

Don't give up what you do because you do it brilliantly.

0:44:320:44:35

Wouldn't you agree, everybody?

0:44:350:44:36

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:44:360:44:38

Such a great Riff-Off, guys, thank you so much.

0:44:400:44:43

There is only place left in the solo battles.

0:44:430:44:46

Let's meet tonight's final two choral contenders.

0:44:460:44:49

It's the Oxford Alternotives!

0:44:490:44:51

And from London, it's Vox-Xover!

0:44:550:44:58

We are...

0:45:000:45:01

The Oxford Alternotives.

0:45:010:45:03

We're from the University of Oxford.

0:45:040:45:06

We are a mixed a cappella group,

0:45:060:45:07

with people from colleges all over the University.

0:45:070:45:10

We think it's the oldest student a cappella group in the UK.

0:45:100:45:13

We are its current crop.

0:45:130:45:15

# Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother

0:45:150:45:17

# You're stayin' alive... #

0:45:170:45:19

We are a group of really different personalities and characters.

0:45:190:45:22

JP is Blues cricket.

0:45:220:45:23

Hiba's our cool dancer.

0:45:230:45:26

G-Lo, she is one of the best cellists in the University.

0:45:260:45:29

And Bryce... He's liftable.

0:45:290:45:31

We can lift him up and throw him around.

0:45:310:45:33

We've been working on this performance for months,

0:45:380:45:40

and now we're just ready to get out there,

0:45:400:45:42

wow everyone and beat the other group.

0:45:420:45:45

We are Vox-Xover.

0:45:510:45:53

And we are five professional opera singers from London.

0:45:530:45:57

We've been on tour through Europe,

0:45:570:45:59

been in Phantom Of The Opera and Les Miserables.

0:45:590:46:01

We like to add a little bit of rock edge to everything that we do.

0:46:010:46:04

# Thunderbolt and lightning... #

0:46:040:46:06

We were originally a four-piece. Nadia came along as a guest singer,

0:46:060:46:09

and we thought five voices together sounded epic,

0:46:090:46:12

so she stuck around.

0:46:120:46:13

Especially with Michael.

0:46:130:46:15

Nadia and I got engaged, and since then, it's been incredibly busy,

0:46:150:46:19

planning for our big day this summer.

0:46:190:46:21

But also rehearsing for Pitch Battle.

0:46:210:46:24

When we perform, we are quite used to some pretty epic staging

0:46:240:46:27

in large spaces.

0:46:270:46:28

But when we rehearse, it's just at Nadia and Michael's flat.

0:46:280:46:31

# Many, many... #

0:46:310:46:33

Yeah, we just get together like friends and have a sing.

0:46:330:46:36

Despite there only being five of us, we make a big sound together.

0:46:380:46:41

Hopefully we can give the other groups a run for their money.

0:46:430:46:45

When it comes to our Showstopper,

0:46:450:46:47

we're going to "rocket".

0:46:470:46:50

Up first, and performing a Rihanna medley,

0:46:590:47:02

it's our a cappella group, the Oxford Alternotives.

0:47:020:47:06

APPLAUSE

0:47:060:47:08

# Doo-doo-doo-wow

0:47:150:47:18

# I'm obsessive when just one thought of you comes up

0:47:180:47:21

# And I'm aggressive just one thought of close enough

0:47:210:47:23

# You got me stressing, incessantly pressing the issue

0:47:230:47:27

# Cos every moment gone you know I miss you

0:47:270:47:30

# SOS Somebody, help me, yeah... #

0:47:300:47:34

# And boy, your love's enough with words unspoken

0:47:440:47:48

0:47:480:47:51

# I don't know what to do

0:47:510:47:53

# I'm going crazy

0:47:530:47:58

# Oo-oh... # APPLAUSE

# Find light in the beautiful sea I choose to be happy

0:48:000:48:04

# You and I, you and I

0:48:040:48:08

# We're like diamonds in the sky

0:48:080:48:10

# At first sight I felt the energy of sun rays

0:48:100:48:17

# I saw the life inside your eyes

0:48:170:48:22

# We found love in a hopeless place

# We found love in a hopeless place

0:48:250:48:29

# We found love in a hopeless place

0:48:290:48:37

# But I've got to let it go. #

0:48:370:48:41

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:48:430:48:46

Aw, you've got to love a medley. Powerful stuff.

0:48:530:48:55

But up next, something completely different.

0:48:550:48:58

Performing their Showstopper, Barcelona,

0:48:580:49:00

it's our classical group Vox-Xover.

0:50:250:50:28

Yes! Yes!

0:50:300:50:32

# Barcelona! #

0:50:320:50:38

Yeah!

0:50:400:50:42

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:50:440:50:48

Now, Rosie, there were so many layers in that.

0:50:530:50:57

It was... It was very much like an opera cake,

0:50:570:51:00

which again, Joe, I wouldn't eat by the ocean.

0:51:000:51:03

How many parts were in that? 14. 14 parts, Gareth!

0:51:030:51:07

14 layering parts.

0:51:070:51:09

Now, Rosie, I must ask you,

0:51:090:51:11

why do you think you should stay in this competition?

0:51:110:51:14

Well...

0:51:140:51:16

We just literally love singing together and having fun together

0:51:160:51:19

and we're basically like a family,

0:51:190:51:21

because we don't love each other all the time, but for the most part,

0:51:210:51:24

we just have a really great time, so we want to keep doing that.

0:51:240:51:27

Oh, that's very lovely.

0:51:270:51:28

Now, talking of beautiful things and relationships,

0:51:280:51:32

Nadia, I believe you are engaged

0:51:320:51:33

to this lovely man next to you, Michael.

0:51:330:51:35

Yes, I am.

0:51:350:51:37

Congratulations. APPLAUSE

0:51:370:51:39

Michael, congrats. How is the wedding planning going?

0:51:390:51:42

Have you sorted out the hors d'oeuvres,

0:51:420:51:45

the invitations, all that kind of stuff?

0:51:450:51:47

Yes, the amuse-bouches are on the way.

0:51:470:51:49

HE LAUGHS There will be a big cake.

0:51:490:51:51

Ooh, what sort?

0:51:510:51:52

Cheese...cake.

0:51:520:51:54

Cheesecake by the ocean is fine, Joe.

0:51:540:51:56

It's fine. It's OK, I approve.

0:51:560:51:58

Because you have a nice solid layer at the bottom,

0:51:580:52:01

which kind of decrumbs the whole thing, so that works.

0:52:010:52:04

LAUGHTER Did you...

0:52:040:52:08

Did you propose to Nadia with song?

0:52:080:52:10

I didn't, no, I crumbled under the pressure, I'm afraid. Aw!

0:52:100:52:15

No, I was a whimpering mess, and thankfully,

0:52:150:52:18

she worked out what I was trying to say and accepted.

0:52:180:52:21

APPLAUSE Lovely!

0:52:210:52:22

Kelis. Yes.

0:52:220:52:23

A cappella versus opera. Only on this show.

0:52:230:52:27

Seriously!

0:52:270:52:28

I feel like I was dressed appropriately

0:52:280:52:30

to come and watch you sing and perform somewhere.

0:52:300:52:33

And I absolutely loved every second of it.

0:52:330:52:34

So, well done there.

0:52:340:52:37

I think for Oxford Alternotives,

0:52:370:52:39

there were some really interesting choices there, so that was exciting.

0:52:390:52:42

I do want to say, and commend you guys on a cappella.

0:52:420:52:45

It is really hard, and there were so many moving parts.

0:52:450:52:48

There were moments where I was a little bit nervous pitch-wise.

0:52:480:52:51

I want to see you guys really pull together.

0:52:510:52:53

Because these guys are on your tail.

0:52:530:52:55

It's going to be very interesting.

0:52:550:52:57

Now, Joe, what are you going to be looking for

0:52:570:52:59

when they come to the Riff-Off?

0:52:590:53:00

I'd say for Vox-Xover, first of all, so impressed.

0:53:000:53:04

Your vocal range is insane.

0:53:040:53:06

Coming out the gate, belting.

0:53:060:53:09

And also, the only lady to hold

0:53:090:53:11

so strongly in a group is really impressive.

0:53:110:53:13

So, amazing. But I guess what I'm looking for next is how,

0:53:130:53:17

coming from the operatic world, what you'll do with different styles

0:53:170:53:20

of music, and how you'll balance the two.

0:53:200:53:21

And what about the Oxford Alternotives?

0:53:210:53:23

I think that last song, it got a little pitchy here and there,

0:53:230:53:28

but finding kind of your comfort zone and settling in,

0:53:280:53:30

so that way for this next song, you guys really just ease into it,

0:53:300:53:34

you know, find your zone.

0:53:340:53:36

Gareth, as we've said,

0:53:360:53:38

stylistically, two very, very different groups.

0:53:380:53:41

Two very, VERY different performances.

0:53:410:53:43

If I start with you, Vox-Xover,

0:53:430:53:45

if I'm honest, I struggle slightly with this kind of crossover style,

0:53:450:53:49

it's a difficult one to pull off.

0:53:490:53:51

But I can see great vocal potential here.

0:53:510:53:53

Vocal POTENTIAL? Serious?

0:53:530:53:56

Yeah, it's just not...my jam. Seriously.

0:53:560:53:58

AUDIENCE: Oo-oo-oh!

0:53:580:54:00

There's a little Riff-Off developing here at the judges' desk!

0:54:000:54:02

Kelis, you loved it. And it's fine that she loved it.

0:54:020:54:05

I'm a sceptic, I'm afraid to say.

0:54:050:54:07

We can get you a cream for that, Gareth. Thank you.

0:54:070:54:10

LAUGHTER

0:54:100:54:11

Yeah, please.

0:54:110:54:14

Oxford Alternotives.

0:54:140:54:16

I'm afraid I've got your score here.

0:54:160:54:18

Just being a little bit nerdy, some of your harmonies that you were

0:54:180:54:21

trying to pull off, in the arrangement,

0:54:210:54:22

I would say keep it simple.

0:54:220:54:24

Doing these complicated chords, it's like building a house.

0:54:240:54:26

You've got to have the foundations there.

0:54:260:54:28

You can't just build a penthouse flat

0:54:280:54:30

and have nothing underneath it.

0:54:300:54:31

And I thought at times, your upper notes were just a bit exposed

0:54:310:54:35

and there was no foundation to the chords.

0:54:350:54:38

So I think in the Riff-Off, you've got to work hard,

0:54:380:54:40

cos you are up against people who are vocally incredibly assured.

0:54:400:54:43

Vocal potential! Vocal potential, that's right.

0:54:430:54:46

No, I mean, come on. Great voices. I don't wish to be unfair.

0:54:460:54:49

That's it from Nerds Corner.

0:54:490:54:51

I doubt that! Yeah, I doubt that! I doubt that!

0:54:510:54:55

I'll just go back to my score.

0:54:570:54:59

One group is about to be knocked out of the competition.

0:54:590:55:02

The other will face Tring Park 16 in tonight's solo battles.

0:55:020:55:06

Deciding their fate is the dramatic Riff-Off.

0:55:060:55:09

AUDIENCE: Ooh!

0:55:090:55:12

# Sweet themes are made of this... #

0:55:130:55:17

Anyway, let's reveal the theme.

0:55:170:55:19

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:55:270:55:29

Lonely.

0:55:290:55:30

Time to find out who's going to be lonely at the top

0:55:320:55:34

and who will be going home alone.

0:55:340:55:36

Good luck.

0:55:360:55:37

0:59:110:59:18

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:59:180:59:21

This was a fascinating battle because it was an uphill climb

0:59:230:59:26

for both of these groups.

0:59:260:59:28

Our a cappella group had to perform with instruments

0:59:280:59:31

and our opera group had to, basically, perform with a rock band

0:59:310:59:34

and both groups did very, very well.

0:59:340:59:37

Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, Celine Dion, Les Mis.

0:59:370:59:41

The Riff-Off's like a box of chocolates.

0:59:410:59:43

You never know what you're going to get.

0:59:430:59:46

APPLAUSE

0:59:460:59:50

Well done, everyone concerned in the Riff-Off. Little Imogen,

0:59:500:59:54

I have got some... You dropped your little tissue.

0:59:540:59:56

I was very emotional in the last song. Have you recovered?

0:59:561:00:01

Just about. Just about, Mel, thank you. Thank you.

1:00:011:00:03

How was that for you guys? It is such a wonderful experience

1:00:031:00:06

to do this on the stage and to share this experience.

1:00:061:00:09

We have so many unique personalities

1:00:091:00:10

and everyone brings something to the group. Lovely.

1:00:101:00:13

Thank you so much, guys. Great Riff-Off work.

1:00:131:00:15

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:00:151:00:17

Woody.

1:00:171:00:18

How was the Riff`Off for you? Bit of a challenge for us,

1:00:181:00:21

given our background and things,

1:00:211:00:23

but I think we pulled it out the bag.

1:00:231:00:25

We have got a lot of tricks up our sleeve, a lot in the locker

1:00:251:00:28

that we can, hopefully, continue to show the audience

1:00:281:00:31

here and at home.

1:00:311:00:33

I'm not sure I want to see inside your locker, Woody.

1:00:331:00:35

I'm not sure. What sort of things have you got in your locker?

1:00:351:00:38

Cake? Always good. Talk to Joe Jonas about that.

1:00:381:00:42

Croquembouche by the ocean, absolutely fine, Joe.

1:00:421:00:45

Absolutely fine.

1:00:451:00:48

Well done, everybody. That was a cracking Riff-Off,

1:00:481:00:50

I have to say. Kelis, if you could, which lonely hearts club band

1:00:501:00:55

would you be joining tonight?

1:00:551:00:56

I think for me, Imogen, you sound fantastic. Your tone is amazing.

1:00:561:01:01

I love it. It's so easy. It came...

1:01:011:01:04

and you stood and, kind of, took your stance and it came out.

1:01:041:01:07

It was great. That was a wonderful moment.

1:01:071:01:09

There were some great harmony moments in there, as well, that I really liked.

1:01:091:01:12

And the blend was really good.

1:01:121:01:15

Vox-Xover, so good to watch. So exciting.

1:01:151:01:18

There were some pitch moments that I think you gentlemen had,

1:01:181:01:21

but it didn't faze you, Nadia, so well done.

1:01:211:01:23

It's tough. You guys delivered, so we'll see.

1:01:231:01:27

Thanks, Kelis.

1:01:271:01:28

Gareth, you said that you were a bit of a sceptic about Vox-Xover.

1:01:281:01:33

Have they changed your opinion?

1:01:331:01:35

I thought that was much more the thing, for me.

1:01:351:01:37

I liked your music theatre sound.

1:01:371:01:38

That was really exciting, but when you are doing the vibrato

1:01:381:01:42

on those close harmony moments, you need to adapt your style.

1:01:421:01:46

You have got one poor soprano there all the way up in the heights.

1:01:461:01:49

No alto to fill the gap in-between

1:01:491:01:51

and you guys - # Oh-oh-oh-oh! # - down the bottom.

1:01:511:01:55

Very hard to tune in. It didn't sound exactly like that, though.

1:01:551:01:57

When I do, # Oh-oh-oh-oh!? No. You didn't sound like that, though.

1:01:571:02:00

That was a cruel exaggeration, but just watch that.

1:02:001:02:04

You have got to support your soprano,

1:02:041:02:06

who is out there very exposed.

1:02:061:02:07

And well done. That was vocal acrobatics up there.

1:02:071:02:10

Turning to the Oxford Alternotives,

1:02:101:02:13

when you do a style, like Rock And Roll,

1:02:131:02:15

and then you change to Elvis Presley,

1:02:151:02:17

you have to adapt your sound,

1:02:171:02:18

you have to adapt your vocal set-up to that completely

1:02:181:02:22

and you have got to commit to that.

1:02:221:02:24

I felt, at times, you just dipped your toe in the water.

1:02:241:02:26

That is a great first step, but I want all-in.

1:02:261:02:29

Done. I've finished. OK. Good.

1:02:291:02:31

LAUGHTER

1:02:311:02:33

Relax. Take it easy. Take a deep breath.

1:02:331:02:35

Joe. Dear Joe.

1:02:351:02:37

Who put up the best fight?

1:02:371:02:39

You guys really impressed me yet again, but you coming out with

1:02:391:02:43

Led Zeppelin is a daring move. Then finishing with Celine Dion,

1:02:431:02:46

I was so, kind of, shocked and impressed how you guys came together

1:02:461:02:49

that last minute and really showed off your talent.

1:02:491:02:52

So, I have to say it's kind of up in the air for me right now.

1:02:521:02:56

Only one of these groups can go through to tonight's solo battles.

1:02:561:02:59

Kelis, which group would you like to put through

1:03:041:03:06

to tonight's solo battles?

1:03:061:03:08

Vox-Xover!

1:03:161:03:18

Vox-Xover from Kelis.

1:03:181:03:20

Joe, which group do you think

1:03:231:03:25

deserves a place in those solo battles?

1:03:251:03:28

I have to go with Vox-Xover.

1:03:311:03:33

Vox-Xover.

1:03:331:03:35

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:03:351:03:38

Gareth, out of interest, who would you have gone for?

1:03:421:03:45

I was won over. I would have gone with Vox-Xover.

1:03:451:03:47

Yeah, we turned him! Wow.

1:03:471:03:49

Now, Alternotives, well done.

1:03:501:03:52

You were absolutely excellent and all of us absolutely loved you.

1:03:521:03:56

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:03:561:03:59

The groups through to the solo battles are Tring Park 16...

1:04:011:04:04

You, literally, showed us every style of music,

1:04:041:04:06

which was really impressive.

1:04:061:04:08

We knew we had to pull it out the bag.

1:04:081:04:09

..Vox-Xover...

1:04:091:04:11

I was won over. I liked your music theatre sound.

1:04:121:04:15

That was really exciting.

1:04:151:04:16

Brilliant!

1:04:161:04:17

..and The Ramparts.

1:04:171:04:19

There is so much charisma and so much personality.

1:04:201:04:22

And someone keeps winking at me, I swear!

1:04:221:04:25

# The unreachable....star! #

1:04:251:04:33

APPLAUSE

1:04:331:04:36

It's time for the solo battles.

1:04:361:04:39

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:04:391:04:44

Up first, let's find out who Tring Park 16 have chosen

1:04:441:04:47

to put under the spotlight as their soloist.

1:04:471:04:50

Caitlin is our soloist in our Solo Battle.

1:04:511:04:54

We chose Caitlin cos she has just got the most incredible voice.

1:04:541:04:57

It is so unique.

1:04:571:04:58

I grew up in a really musical family.

1:04:591:05:01

My mum is a concert pianist,

1:05:011:05:03

my dad is a drummer and my sister is the singer-songwriter, Birdy.

1:05:031:05:07

Birdy is a massive inspiration,

1:05:081:05:10

as well as a sister and a best friend.

1:05:101:05:12

She always tells me to just go for it, to just express myself.

1:05:121:05:15

I suffer from muscle strain disorder,

1:05:171:05:19

which puts a lot of tension on my throat.

1:05:191:05:22

When my muscle strain gets at its worst,

1:05:221:05:24

I physically can't sing.

1:05:241:05:26

Sometimes, I can't even speak, it gets so bad.

1:05:261:05:29

Coming here is a massive challenge for me.

1:05:291:05:31

In your voice, there is just a little bit of rasp that cheats in.

1:05:311:05:34

I'm terrified about my voice. I don't know how it's going to go

1:05:341:05:38

when I get out there.

1:05:381:05:39

I'm just going to give it my all.

1:05:391:05:41

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:05:441:05:47

# Same bed, but it feels just a little bit bigger now

1:05:531:05:58

# Our song on the radio but it don't sound the same

1:06:011:06:05

# When our friends talk about you

1:06:071:06:09

# All it does is just tear me down... #

1:06:091:06:11

Oh, God, yeah.

1:06:111:06:13

# Cos my heart breaks a little

1:06:131:06:16

# When I hear your name

1:06:161:06:19

# Although it hurts

1:06:191:06:22

# You'll be the first to say that you were wrong

1:06:221:06:29

# Oh, oh-oh, oh, oh-oh, whoa

1:06:291:06:32

# Oh, I know you're probably much too late

1:06:321:06:36

# To try and apologise for your mistakes

1:06:361:06:39

# But I just want you to know

1:06:391:06:43

# I hope he buys me flowers

1:06:451:06:49

# I hope he holds my hand

1:06:491:06:52

# Give me all his hours

1:06:521:06:56

# When he has the chance

1:06:561:06:58

# He'll take me to every party

1:06:581:07:02

# Do you remember how much I loved to dance?

1:07:021:07:05

# Do all the things you should have done

1:07:051:07:09

# When you were my man

1:07:091:07:11

# He'll do all the things you should have done

1:07:111:07:16

# When you were my man. #

1:07:161:07:21

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:07:231:07:26

What a voice. Gorgeous. Well done.

1:07:261:07:29

Feeling the pressure next, it's Vox-Xover,

1:07:361:07:38

whose soloist has been busy putting in Pitch Battle rehearsals

1:07:381:07:41

with the planning of a wedding.

1:07:411:07:43

For our solo, we needed a voice that has drama and intensity.

1:07:441:07:48

For that reason, we've chosen Nadia.

1:07:481:07:50

I started singing when I was 12 years old and I trained classically

1:07:511:07:55

back home in Sweden.

1:07:551:07:56

Michael and I met singing together,

1:07:561:07:58

as cheesy as it sounds, it was love at first sight!

1:07:581:08:01

He proposed in Rome. I thought I was going off to do concerts

1:08:011:08:05

and work with him.

1:08:051:08:07

I wasn't expecting it, at all.

1:08:071:08:08

Michael is absolutely everything to me. He is just my best friend.

1:08:101:08:14

Every time I see Nadia perform, I am unbelievably proud

1:08:151:08:18

and I know that, when she is singing the solo, that will be

1:08:181:08:22

the proudest moment so far.

1:08:221:08:24

With the boys and my husband behind me,

1:08:241:08:25

I've got all the support I need.

1:08:251:08:28

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:08:291:08:32

# How can you see into my eyes

1:08:361:08:41

# Like open doors?

1:08:411:08:45

# Leading you down into my core

1:08:451:08:51

# Where I've become so numb

1:08:511:08:54

# Wake me up inside

1:08:561:09:00

# Call my name and save me from the dark

1:09:001:09:05

# Frozen inside without your touch

1:09:051:09:09

# Without your love, darling

1:09:091:09:14

# Only you

1:09:141:09:17

# Are the life among the dead

1:09:171:09:23

# Ah, ah-ah

1:09:231:09:26

# Ah, ah-ah

1:09:261:09:28

# Ah, ah-ah

1:09:291:09:31

# Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah

1:09:311:09:37

# Wake me up inside

1:09:371:09:39

# Wake me up inside

1:09:391:09:42

# Call my name and save me

1:09:421:09:45

# From the dark

1:09:451:09:47

# Bid my blood to run

1:09:471:09:49

# Before I come undone

1:09:491:09:52

# Save me from the nothing I've become

1:09:521:09:56

# Bring me to life. #

1:09:561:10:04

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:10:061:10:09

Wow. That was great. That was fantastic.

1:10:101:10:14

Our final group are The Ramparts,

1:10:171:10:19

who've chosen their youngest member

1:10:191:10:21

to lead them in their Solo Battle.

1:10:211:10:23

For the solo battle, we have decided to give it to the youngest member

1:10:241:10:27

of The Ramparts, which is Ruairi Nicol.

1:10:271:10:30

CHEERING

1:10:301:10:31

I go to Belvedere College Secondary School in inner-city Dublin.

1:10:321:10:35

I've got double music first thing on a Monday,

1:10:351:10:37

which is great to start off the week.

1:10:371:10:39

Given that I'm just 17, it's great still living at home.

1:10:391:10:42

I don't know where I'd be without my mum, honestly.

1:10:421:10:44

She looks after pretty much everything that I do

1:10:441:10:47

and everything that goes on in my life.

1:10:471:10:49

It's a bit like having a personal assistant or my own manager.

1:10:491:10:52

You could get off the couch and do some work?

1:10:521:10:55

I love being a part of The Ramparts, just cos it's like having

1:10:551:10:58

17 older brothers.

1:10:581:11:00

It means a lot that the lads have trusted me with

1:11:001:11:02

this incredibly important solo.

1:11:021:11:04

I know the lads are going to be standing behind

1:11:041:11:06

me the whole way through - they've got my back.

1:11:061:11:08

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:11:121:11:14

# I don't know you

1:11:181:11:22

# But I want to

1:11:221:11:26

# All the more for that

1:11:261:11:30

# Words fall through me

1:11:321:11:36

# And always fool me

1:11:361:11:40

# And I can't react

1:11:401:11:44

# And games that never amount

1:11:471:11:51

# To more that they're meant

1:11:511:11:55

# Will play themselves out

1:11:551:11:58

# Ah-ah-ah-ah

1:11:581:12:01

# Ah-ah-ah-ah

1:12:011:12:04

# Take this sinking boat

1:12:041:12:09

# And point it home

1:12:091:12:12

# We've still got time

1:12:121:12:19

# Raise your hopeful voice

1:12:191:12:23

# You have a choice

1:12:231:12:26

# You'll make it now... #

1:12:261:12:31

Bang on.

1:12:311:12:32

# Falling slowly

1:12:321:12:36

# Sing your melody

1:12:361:12:41

# I'll sing along. #

1:12:411:12:48

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:12:511:12:53

Mrs Norris, Caitlin, what a performance.

1:13:081:13:11

I mean, the whole group, what a performance there.

1:13:111:13:14

What did you think? I think Caitlin is really something very special

1:13:141:13:17

and someone we need to keep a very close eye on in the future.

1:13:171:13:21

That sounds worrying.

1:13:211:13:23

LAUGHTER

1:13:231:13:24

In a good way! In a good way.

1:13:241:13:26

No-one messes with Mrs Norris, do they?

1:13:261:13:28

No-one messes.

1:13:281:13:30

Well done, Tringers, that was really, really strong.

1:13:301:13:32

Now, Nadia, corsetry, a heavy rock beat -

1:13:321:13:37

it was all incredibly alluring.

1:13:371:13:39

Very, very strong from you. How did you feel, doing that?

1:13:391:13:42

It was amazing. It was nerve-racking, but loved it

1:13:421:13:45

and it is so great being up here with these guys. It's just...

1:13:451:13:48

They give such energy off, it's just awesome. I loved it.

1:13:481:13:51

Well done, all of you. That was tremendous.

1:13:511:13:53

Now, where is Ruairi?

1:13:531:13:55

You are the youngest member of the Ramparts.

1:13:551:13:57

How old are you, Ruairi?

1:13:571:13:59

17. 17. Did you enjoy it, Ruairi? It was brilliant.

1:13:591:14:03

It was a fantastic experience. Yes.

1:14:031:14:04

APPLAUSE

1:14:041:14:09

So, Gareth, did anyone surprise you up there?

1:14:091:14:11

Sorry, we are just arguing. Oh, dear.

1:14:111:14:14

Yeah, do you know, it was great. This is a very difficult decision.

1:14:141:14:18

Tring - Caitlin.

1:14:181:14:20

Beautiful.

1:14:201:14:21

Absolutely stunning. I was bewitched by your performance.

1:14:211:14:25

It was very moving.

1:14:251:14:26

You have had some vocal issues and I can hear a bit of that,

1:14:261:14:30

but actually, you were careful, you didn't overblow it.

1:14:301:14:33

It was a thrilling performance.

1:14:331:14:35

Your voice is beautiful.

1:14:351:14:36

We're like athletes and sometimes we get injured. And that's OK,

1:14:361:14:39

cos you pressed on. You are doing a really good job.

1:14:391:14:41

Caitlin, I think you would have made Bruno Mars very proud tonight.

1:14:411:14:44

Really impressive, especially with what you're going through vocally.

1:14:441:14:47

That is unbelievable. So, to get up there

1:14:471:14:50

with a great group behind you, that can support you,

1:14:501:14:53

and also know that you are the right pick for them,

1:14:531:14:55

that shows a lot of your team, so good job, guys.

1:14:551:14:58

So, Vox-Xover, that was an amazing vocal display from you,

1:15:011:15:04

Nadia, quite, quite extraordinarily dramatic.

1:15:041:15:07

It was enchanting, it was beautiful,

1:15:071:15:10

there were times when the vibrato, sometimes you'd get lost in it,

1:15:101:15:13

but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

1:15:131:15:15

Pop music translating from that style where you guys come from

1:15:151:15:18

can be tricky, but you do it really well.

1:15:181:15:20

Well, Nadia, obviously you are a star,

1:15:201:15:23

you belong centre stage.

1:15:231:15:25

You were like a cake topper,

1:15:251:15:26

it was like a very dark cake topper, but...

1:15:261:15:29

A terrifying cake! But you were...

1:15:291:15:31

I mean, you absolutely are stunning

1:15:311:15:33

and there was a few moments there where I kind of felt,

1:15:331:15:36

like, in the beauty of the intensity,

1:15:361:15:38

I sort of lost the meaning a little bit,

1:15:381:15:40

but extremely powerful and that's not easy to do either,

1:15:401:15:44

so as far as performance goes, you guys are fabulous!

1:15:441:15:47

Now, Joe, a cake topper by the ocean is absolutely fine.

1:15:471:15:52

Absolutely fine.

1:15:521:15:54

I kind of knew that one was coming.

1:15:541:15:56

I'm sorry! Oh, Joe!

1:15:561:15:58

Oh, Joe, are you bored of me?

1:15:581:16:00

Oh, no!

1:16:001:16:01

Are you bored of me? I couldn't... Joe, I couldn't bear that.

1:16:011:16:04

No, you have a lot of promises

1:16:041:16:05

of taking me out for lots cake in different places, so...

1:16:051:16:07

We will do it, not only by the ocean.

1:16:071:16:09

I have high expectations.

1:16:091:16:11

OK.

1:16:111:16:12

Gareth?

1:16:121:16:13

Boys - Ruairi, 17!

1:16:131:16:16

Lovely, just really sweet,

1:16:161:16:17

that was very sensitive, very beautiful. It was.

1:16:171:16:20

Not absolutely always in tune, but some very good moments.

1:16:201:16:25

I do think, also, that there were some pitchy things there,

1:16:251:16:28

but I love the fact that you guys go for it

1:16:281:16:30

and then, yeah, Ruairi, like...

1:16:301:16:32

Hi! I know who you are!

1:16:321:16:36

LAUGHTER

1:16:361:16:37

I love that you guys put Ruairi in the front line

1:16:371:16:39

because you nailed it,

1:16:391:16:40

it was like honey, it was, like, a beautiful, beautiful moment.

1:16:401:16:44

You guys did a really good job

1:16:441:16:46

and you showed a really romantic side of what you do.

1:16:461:16:49

Waiting for a moment where you can really be sentimental and you proved yourselves.

1:16:491:16:52

Well, once again, it is decision time.

1:16:541:16:56

Judges, please decide the two groups

1:16:561:16:59

you want to take into the final battle.

1:16:591:17:01

OK, judges, please will you tell us the first group that you want

1:17:121:17:16

to go through to the final head-to-head battle and why.

1:17:161:17:19

Gareth?

1:17:191:17:20

Just because of the sheer joyous nature of their performance

1:17:201:17:25

and also a very sensitive song in the solo round...

1:17:251:17:30

It's The Ramparts.

1:17:301:17:32

CHEERING

1:17:321:17:34

Kelis, please tell us the name of the second group

1:17:471:17:50

that will be going through to the final battle.

1:17:501:17:53

This was hard because, as you know, we don't always agree.

1:17:531:17:58

As much as I think we saw some real vocal mastery...

1:17:581:18:04

..we're going with Tring.

1:18:101:18:12

CHEERING

1:18:121:18:15

Oh, Vox-Xover, I'm afraid that means it's the end of your time

1:18:271:18:32

with us tonight, but what amazing performances, seriously!

1:18:321:18:37

CHEERING

1:18:371:18:41

Tring Park 16 and The Ramparts, take a deep breath

1:18:441:18:47

and shake it all out, because this is the final battle.

1:18:471:18:51

They'll share the same song, taking it in turns to out-sing each other.

1:18:551:18:59

While they are performing, our judges here

1:18:591:19:01

will be deciding who they want to win tonight's show.

1:19:011:19:03

Once they've made up their minds,

1:19:031:19:05

our superstar guest judge, Joe Jonas, will join in with

1:19:051:19:08

the group that our judges want to take through to the live final.

1:19:081:19:12

And they are going to be singing one of this summer's biggest smashes

1:19:121:19:16

by none other than our superstar guest judge,

1:19:161:19:18

the mighty Joe Jonas, with "Dinces..."

1:19:181:19:21

How do you pronounce it?

1:19:211:19:22

DNCE. DNCE!

1:19:221:19:26

I knew that! I'm down with the kids! You got, you got it.

1:19:261:19:29

DNCE's Kissing Strangers.

1:19:291:19:31

Now, listen, Joe, you are going to be revealing

1:19:311:19:34

who has won tonight's competition.

1:19:341:19:36

That's quite a lot of pressure on you.

1:19:361:19:39

I'm feeling the pressure.

1:19:391:19:40

I mean, these are two amazing groups who have worked really hard

1:19:401:19:44

and have a lot of fun doing it

1:19:441:19:45

and they've done such a great job and they are both winners tonight.

1:19:451:19:48

So, now, fighting for a place in that grand final,

1:19:481:19:52

it's the final battle,

1:19:521:19:53

with Tring Park 16 versus The Ramparts.

1:19:531:19:57

1:22:541:22:58

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:23:001:23:04

Wow.

1:23:231:23:25

First of all, The Ramparts,

1:23:261:23:30

who brought the Ram-party to the party,

1:23:301:23:33

we're so sorry to see you go tonight, Ramparts,

1:23:331:23:37

you literally gave it your all, you really did.

1:23:371:23:40

CHEERING

1:23:401:23:42

Two words, gents, two words -

1:23:431:23:45

wild card.

1:23:451:23:47

All is not lost.

1:23:471:23:48

There will be that cheeky wild card that joins us in the live final.

1:23:481:23:53

It could be The Ramparts, who knows?

1:23:531:23:55

Still bringing joy, The Ramparts. Still bringing joy!

1:23:551:23:59

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:23:591:24:01

Now...

1:24:031:24:04

Seriously, Tring Park 16, you knocked it out of Tring Park!

1:24:071:24:12

Joe, I must ask you,

1:24:121:24:14

what was it about these guys that made you choose their path?

1:24:141:24:18

I mean, the whole night, they really proved themselves.

1:24:181:24:20

From the beginning and then, of course, the solo performance.

1:24:201:24:24

Both were great, but they really kind of showed

1:24:241:24:26

the judges and myself that they were the winner tonight.

1:24:261:24:29

Joe, being an incredibly busy international/global pop star,

1:24:331:24:39

you are not actually going to be able to join us,

1:24:391:24:41

are you, for the live final?

1:24:411:24:43

But never fear, when you lose one Jonas,

1:24:431:24:46

you gain another!

1:24:461:24:48

So, your lovely brother, Nick, I believe, is going to step in.

1:24:481:24:52

Is that really true, Joe?

1:24:521:24:55

I'll text him right now and make sure, make sure he shows up.

1:24:551:24:58

What are you going to tell him about this group?

1:24:581:25:00

I'm going to tell him... Obviously, it's a tough competition,

1:25:001:25:03

a lot of incredible performers and groups,

1:25:031:25:06

but I've got to give a nice shout-out for my group back here.

1:25:061:25:10

They crushed it tonight.

1:25:101:25:12

Thank you so much to all of tonight's groups for taking part,

1:25:141:25:17

to Deke, to all of our judges

1:25:171:25:19

and, most of all, thank you so much to you for watching.

1:25:191:25:22

Next week, it's the Pitch Battle live final.

1:25:221:25:25

We'll see you again next week. Bye-bye!

1:25:251:25:28

The line-up for the grand final is almost complete,

1:25:301:25:32

but a lifeline still remains for one of five runners-up.

1:25:321:25:36

So, who will Gareth and Kelis pick as their wild card?

1:25:361:25:39

If you want youthful exuberance, that's it.

1:25:391:25:43

# Don't believe me... #

1:25:431:25:45

My kids really loved that.

1:25:451:25:46

LMA, they were super fun, super entertaining.

1:25:461:25:49

They sound like a choir. Yeah.

1:25:491:25:51

# Angel eyes... #

1:25:521:25:54

Wow! Yeah, that's great.

1:25:541:25:56

# Oh, living on a prayer... #

1:25:561:25:59

There's a really nice vintage element about them.

1:25:591:26:01

They are born performers. They are very polished, very tight.

1:26:011:26:04

# I'm on the edge... #

1:26:041:26:06

What Sgarmes gave us was amazing passion.

1:26:061:26:08

You know, it's etched on their faces.

1:26:081:26:09

They are a community choir, they're from a small town in Wales,

1:26:091:26:12

it's just really about the love and the joy of singing.

1:26:121:26:15

Charisma and personality.

1:26:161:26:17

# I'm in love with the shape of you... #

1:26:171:26:20

Warren was winking at me this entire time.

1:26:201:26:22

Hilarious! He was winking at me!

1:26:221:26:24

Come on, let's make a decision, I don't think it's them.

1:26:241:26:26

I think there is a mismatch. I agree.

1:26:261:26:28

It's not them, lack of skill. Now we are down to two.

1:26:281:26:31

Yeah, we are down to LMA... And Sgarmes.

1:26:311:26:33

They're neck-and-neck.

1:26:331:26:34

# Only want to see you laughing in the... #

1:26:341:26:37

Conor's solo kind of skyrocketed them.

1:26:371:26:40

# ..and, honey, I know... #

1:26:401:26:42

You know, it's fabulous, OK? That was phenomenal!

1:26:421:26:45

I love this kid,

1:26:451:26:46

but Kim looked like an absolute star. Here we go.

1:26:461:26:49

# Somebody to love... #

1:26:491:26:54

I have chills!

1:26:541:26:56

# ..Oh oh-oh-oh! # I love her!

1:26:561:27:00

OK, done. Yes!

1:27:001:27:01

# Hallelujah! #

1:27:011:27:04

I think it's a good choice. Wales will thank us.

1:27:041:27:07

Bring on the final battle!

1:27:071:27:09

So, Sgarmes claim the last spot in the live final,

1:27:091:27:11

where they will collaborate with Motown legend Jermaine Jackson.

1:27:111:27:15

Completing the all-star line-up are...

1:27:151:27:17

Leeds Contemporary Singers with Will Young,

1:27:171:27:20

Scot Soul with Chaka Khan,

1:27:201:27:21

All The King's Men with Bebe Rexha,

1:27:211:27:23

Portsmouth University Gospel Choir with Seal,

1:27:231:27:26

and, tonight's victors, Tring Park 16 with Nick Jonas.

1:27:431:27:45

30 vocal groups clashed in choral combat -

1:27:521:27:55

six survivors now face their toughest battles yet

1:27:551:27:58

in the live final.

1:27:581:28:00

I want to, like, hang out with you guys.
