-Nothing beats seeing lambs prancing

-around in the fields in springtime.

-Rhodri Gomer learns about

-the busiest time of the year...

-..whether it's inside sheds

-or outside in the elements.

-I was raised on a sheep farm,

-but I've still got a lot to learn.

-Who better to teach me more about it

-Yes, I've been checking the sheep.

-We would usually expect to have

-five to ten lambs born daily...

-..but they've been

-very slow this year.

-We have a different system to others

-farms, so it might be an eye-opener.

-Tell us more about this lamb.

-The weather was too harsh for one

-of our lambs but not for this one.

-We skinned it

-and put it on to this lamb.

-This sheep has taken this lamb

-under her wing.

-From a tragedy, there's some light

-and this sheep is good mother.

-The newly-born lambs need to fed

-across three to four fields.

-Let's go and feed them.

-Lambing outdoors is easier,

-but it's also a lot of hard work.

-If there's a problem, you have to

-catch the sheep to take it inside.

-But the biggest benefit for us

-is that it's healthier.

-The lambs get on their feet and

-their mothers search for a shelter.

-Further down the road at Llanilar,

-the lambing method is different.

-Hugh Tudor's farm has 1,600

-new additions every year.

-He has to have an extra pair

-of hands to cope with the workload.

-What is the advantage

-of lambing inside?

-If there's a problem,

-you can see them all.

-Foxes or badgers aren't able

-to cause any problems too.

-When you lamb outside, you do lose

-some to nature, weather or wildlife.

-You save some by lambing inside.

-How long will it be before these

-lambs can go out to the field?

-It depends on the weather,

-but it could be a day or two.

-If the weather is fine,

-they'll be sent outside.

-We've just seen two lambs enter the

-world, but what's the next step?

-They come to these small enclosures

-for a day or so.

-We have to make sure that all

-of the lambs have had some milk.

-It will give the lamb strength.

-Once they spend a day here,

-we move them on to a bigger pen...

-..where 15 of them will spend the

-day together, before they go out.

-However, they only go outside

-if conditions are adequate.
