-Hello and welcome to Prynhawn Da.
-We hope you've enjoyed
-your Thursday morning.
-Today, we chat to Meleri Bowen
-about her new blog called Melys.
-We learn more about it shortly but
-here's what else we've got for you.
-It's half term so Huw focuses on
-the latest fashion for youngsters.
-Following the tragic death
-of two-year-old Faye Burdett...
-..Dr Ann discusses
-the dangers of meningitis...
-..including the condition,
-We hear of a trip to Patagonia by a
-group of higher education students.
-We chat to Elin and Menna
-from the group.
-Alwyn Humphries surprises someone
-with his Salt of the Earth plate.
-There's plenty to enjoy over the
-next 50 minutes with me and Sian.
-Welcome to Prynhawn Da.
-There's been recent criticism over a
-lack of information on food labels.
-Many of us just moan about it but
-our guest did something positive.
-She's started a new blog
-welcome to Prynhawn Da.
-What inspired you to write it?
-For many years,
-I've had an interest in food.
-I have an interest on
-the effects of food on the body.
-I decided to do a course
-to learn more information...
-..which I could pass on
-to my family and friends.
-This encouraged me to write a blog.
-There isn't enough information
-about these healthy foods...
-..that have a different name.
-I wanted to devise a place where
-all the information was available.
-There are fads and emphasis
-on different foods all the time.
-Things keep changing.
-There's an emphasis on different
-things at different times.
-I think there needs
-to be a healthy balance.
-I started the blog this year.
-On my blog, I have recipes,
-tips and information.
-I have a variety of information
-on my blog.
-I post many healthy recipes.
-Many people will think healthy food
-doesn't taste tasty.
-I want to end the stigma where
-people believe healthy foods...
-..doesn't have a great taste.
-There are varities of foods
-that are tasty.
-Coconut energy balls,
-dates, maple syrup...
-..all of these
-contain healthy sugar.
-Can you buy many of these foods
-from the supermarket?
-I buy my ingredients
-from a vareity of places.
-You don't have to shop
-in the healthy stores.
-You can also buy
-some of the ingredients online.
-How many people have typed
-"how to lose two stone in 30 days".
-I've been drawn to many quick fixes
-in the past.
-However, I've realized that
-they are not sustainable.
-Healthy eating is a way of living
-and not a diet.
-There is no such thing
-as perfect diet.
-You have to exercise
-and have a balance.
-I'm still studying
-a nutrition course.
-I will have to do essays
-and an exam.
-We have a lot of work to do.
-The coffee companies contain
-at least 20 teaspoons of sugar.
-We don't know how much sugar
-is in the foods.
-I've done it in the past.
-I work with children and I see
-that our habits as children...
-..can affect our future lives.
-You have to start early.
-It's never too late to change.
-I still eat different things.
-What's your top tip
-for healthy eating?
-My top tip for changing
-is to be confident to change.
-People should want to open
-their minds to try new things.
-There are things that are
-healthy that also taste great.
-You can contact me on Facebook
-or Twitter or www.melys.net
-Let's find out
-what Huw's got in store for us.
-It's half term and I'm showcasing
-fashion for the younger generation.
-I've asked pupils from
-local schools to be models today.
-There's no specific theme today...
-..but great outfits.
-Fashion is very interesting
-at the moment.
-The line between teenagers
-and adults is very small.
-London Fashion Week
-is also on the horizon.
-Yes, next week
-is London Fashion Week.
-Occasionally, we see 14-year-old
-models wearing next to nothing.
-Next week, we'll be watching
-the Julien Macdonald show.
-We'll also be looking
-at the work of Jayne Pearson.
-She's from Llanelli.
-She wants to get to the
-same heights as Julien.
-Anwen is from Ysgol Gyfun y Strade.
-When I choose the outfit,
-I didn't know how Anwen would feel.
-However, in school, you don't have
-a lot of money to spend on clothes.
-You know what you want,
-but you can't always afford it.
-Try and get a discount card
-if your a student.
-Lynwen in the River Island store
-..knew that I would need
-a bigger jacket.
-It's small for its size.
-If you go up a size, don't worry.
-Anwen's outfit comes
-from River Island.
-I like this outfit
-and I would wear this.
-The bag is great.
-don't get to keep the clothes!
-Next, we have Jacob.
-I decided to do a geek chic look
-for Jacob without meeting him.
-He looks great in this outfit.
-I'm going to keep the dickie bow
-for London Fashion Week.
-You can just pin it on.
-Dickie bows have been
-Jacob also kept the shirt
-out of the trousers.
-are also very popular.
-Jacob is wearing
-an outfit from Topman.
-Camel coats are also
-..this is why I've chosen
-the camel colour jumper.
-This is a vintage look.
-You would see your grandfather
-wearing an outfit like this.
-Are you comfortable in it?
-I like this outfit.
-Thank you, Jacob.
-Next, we have Leia.
-Leia is from Maenclochog.
-You can have a lot of fun
-These hats are very fashionable.
-Sian loves this hat!
-She probably has one
-in the cupboard.
-Rhiannon who was shopping with me
-commented on the striped jumper.
-Leia is wearing
-an outfit from New Look.
-The jumper is 19.99.
-The pinafore costs 22.
-The bag which is also
-from New Look costs 15.99.
-Wear the vintage items
-if you have them.
-The red bag will stand out.
-I really like the hat.
-You have to raise your head
-to see in this hat.
-After the break, we open
-our surgery doors with Dr Ann.
-Meningitis is under the microscope.
-Join us in a few minutes
-to find out more.
-Meningitis has hit the headlines
-..following the death
-of a two-year-old girl...
-..who died on Valentine's Day having
-battled the disease for a fortnight.
-Heartbreaking images of the toddler
-have been shared on social media...
-..and over 300,000 people
-have signed a petition...
-..calling for the NHS
-to vaccinate all children.
-Dr Ann has joined us on the sofa.
-Welcome to the programme.
-It's such a tragic tale of
-two-year-old Faye Burdett.
-This is very heartbreaking.
-Meningitis is an infection
-of the meninges.
-The meninges is the membrane that
-surrounds the brand and spinal cord.
-It can be caused by a bacteria
-or a virus.
-Owain survived the condition.
-Last year, a vaccine
-for meningitis B was introduced.
-The vaccine is targetted for a group
-that is most at risk.
-The vaccine is targeted for a group
-that is most at risk.
-The vaccine for meningitis B
-is still in its early days.
-The young girl who has died
-had just missed the chance...
-..to get vaccinated.
-Toddlers are vaccinated up
-to 12 months.
-They recommend that you take
-paracetamol for this condition.
-Parents who want older children
-vaccinated must pay privately.
-Hopefully, the condition will be
-eradicated for this age range...
-..in years to come.
-Hopefully, they will expand the age
-range for the vaccine.
-What are the symptoms?
-It's difficult to get
-an early diagnosis.
-Once a rash appears call 999.
-Many patients have
-to undergo amputation.
-Symtoms include high fever
-with cold hands and feet.
-Vomiting and headaches are among
-the symptoms of meningitis B.
-Meningitis used to receive
-a lot of media attention.
-A rash appears on the skin.
-Place a glass tumbler against
-the skin to see if it disappears.
-You have to undergo treatment
-and hope that it works.
-We've also had an email
-from Mona Hughes.
-Let's move onto the condition,
-is autoimmune hepatitis?
-Autoimmune hepatitis is a very rare
-cause of chronic hepatitis.
-White blood cells attack the liver.
-We've also heard
-of hepatitis A and B.
-It's from a group of illnesses
-Healthy cells are attacked.
-Cells in the liver are affected.
-If you don't have early treatment,
-the liver will get infected.
-It can turn to cirrhosis.
-The condition can appear instantly.
-What are the symptoms?
-Symptoms include tiredness,
-pains in your abdomen...
-..joint aches, jaundice
-You also have flu-like symptoms.
-Your skin also starts to itch.
-Tests can be carried out
-for an early diagnosis.
-Steroid medication can gradually
-reduce the swelling of the liver.
-Thank you, Dr Ann.
-After the break...
-..we chat to Menna and Elin who are
-going on a trip to Patagonia.
-Alwyn has a Salt of the Earth plate
-for residents in the Welsh capital.
-See you in a few minutes.
-I'm jealous of our next guests,
-Elin and Menna...
-..as they're going to Patagonia.
-Welcome to you both.
-Tell us more about your trip.
-I heard about it all from a friend.
-She wanted to apply for the trip.
-She asked me to do it with her.
-Weeks later, I learnt that I was
-chosen to go on the trip...
-she wasn't chosen.
-How did she react?
-But fair play to her
-she has been supportive...
-..and helped me raise funds.
-My school asked me if I wanted to go
-on the trip.
-I read about a girl online who went
-last year and it looked amazing.
-I've never been,
-but I would love to go.
-There have been celebrations about
-the first Welsh landing there...
-..and I wanted to learn more about
-There are 25 of us going on the
-trip and they come from all over.
-We have a residential stay
-at Glan Llyn over Easter.

-to go on the trip.
-I baked cakes and sold them
-in the local chapel.
-I also played at concerts
-I collected a cheque from LBS.
-I also picked up a cheque
-have been supporting you.
-Many companies have been generous.
-I've collected half
-the amount I need.
-So have I.
-There are email addresses
-on the screen...
-..in case anyone's interested
-in making a donation.
-How do you hope to raise the
-rest of the funds?

-20-year-old pensioners club.
-I'm surprising a married couple
-who have been here from the onset...
-..and have made
-a massive contribution.
-Let's step inside.
-I'm very sorry to interrupt
-your interesting lecture, Arfon...
-..but I'm afraid this isn't for you!
-Good afternoon to you all.
-Good afternoon to you all.
-This recreation club
-is certainly relaxing.

-Mair is originally from Llandovery.
-I know everything about you.
-You're both long-standing members
-and contributed greatly to the club.
-This is why you've been awarded
-with a Salt of the Earth plate.
-How long have you known the couple?
-When I came to Cardiff
-..Welsh speakers didn't have
-anywhere to meet except Ty'r Cymry.
-At my first meeting,
-I met the president, Idwal.
-We've been friends with
-Idwal and Mair ever since.
-When the time came to establish the
-Welsh pensioners club of Cardiff...
-..I asked Idwal about a committee
-and he became our first treasurer.
-Whatever needs to be done,
-the couple are ready to do it.
-They always do the small things
-that would go amiss with others.
-They've been choir
-and committee members...
-..and a president and treasurer.
-and throws a fantastic party.
-They always puzzle us
-with their questions...
-..which shows us how little
-we know about the world!
-A fortnight ago,
-Idwal and Mair hosted a quiz.
-Last night, I asked for a copy
-to show you how methodical it is.
-The writing is wonderful.
-This quiz is a challenge for us
-Over the years, you've worked
-tirelessly for this group.
-We've enjoyed it.
-The first meeting
-was held in September 1991.
-We've continued ever since.
-Why did you feel the need
-for this group?
-At the time, we needed a society...
-..which would give adults who lived
-alone an opportunity to speak Welsh.
-Somewhere to socialise.
-All the best for the future.
