Good evening and welcome to the final of The Apprentice 2015. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
12 weeks ago, 18 candidates entered the boardroom, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
hoping to win Lord Sugar's £250,000 investment. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:10
Now, only Vana and Joseph remain and one of them | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
is about to become Lord Sugar's new business partner. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
In the next hour, we'll find out which of them that is | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
and then straight afterwards both candidates will join us | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
here on You're Hired, where we'll be talking to them | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
and looking back at this year's series, along with our panel | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
and the other candidates and, of course, Lord Sugar himself. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
All of that later. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
First, let's sit back and enjoy the final of The Apprentice. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:35
£250,000. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
It's an acorn which we want grown into a great oak tree. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:44
Lord Sugar's on the hunt for a brand-new business partner. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:48
If you think this process is tough, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
it's just got a whole lot tougher. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
Over the next 12 weeks, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:54
you are out of your comfort zone. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
Ready to fight for his funding, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
18 aspiring entrepreneurs. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
Supply and demand - that's what this is about. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
I'm demanding the answers, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
you better bloody well supply them. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
On the table, a quarter-million-pound investment | 0:01:10 | 0:01:15
and a 50-50 partnership with Britain's toughest backer. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
You haven't used any of your skills, any of your knowledge. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
Mistake on that, mistake on this. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
Straight in the bin. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
-Rich, come on! -Let's go, mate. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
It's a deal worth battling for. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:30
I sold the most yesterday. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
-You did yesterday, but this morning you didn't. -Whatever. Whatever. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
18 candidates... | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
-Hang on. Ooh. -Common sense prevails. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
We're going to be explosive. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:40
..12 testing weeks... | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
-I really don't know what to do. -I messed up a bit, didn't I? | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
CHARLEINE SQUEALS | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
..one life-changing opportunity. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
You're fired. You're fired. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
This is a bad call on strategy. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
You're fired. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:53
-I'm going to win, I'm going to win. -You so want to win. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
Previously on The Apprentice... | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
Today, you are going to present your business plans. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:12
It's going to be a long day. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
For the final five... | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
I just want the world and everything in it. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
No matter what. I'm not going to stop. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
Believe me, I believe you. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
..the ultimate grilling. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
I think you're the type of guy that feels you can write | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
a lot of bullshit and no-one will see the truth underneath. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
I've thrown it away. I want my mum. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
In the boardroom... | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
Joseph, you've got to show me a path as to how this can get big. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
..the inquisition continued. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
Vana, I ain't worried. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:40
£250,000 is like a spit in the ocean. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:44
For Charleine, some parting advice. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
Why don't you just carry on in Plymouth? You're known there, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
you developed your business there. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:50
With regret, Charleine, you're fired. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
Gary's business... | 0:02:53 | 0:02:54
A virtual party is when you can actually beam people in. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:58
-It's like virtual meetings. -Skype, isn't it? | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
..baffled. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:01
Don't get it. You're fired. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
And thoroughbred Richard... | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
You've done extremely well. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:07
You were in the winning team eight times. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
..fell at the final hurdle. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
I'm not going into business with anybody that's got some other | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
deal on the side, so, Richard... | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
He became... | 0:03:17 | 0:03:18
You're fired. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
..this 16th casualty of the boardroom. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Very well done, the pair of you. You're in the final. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
Now, just two remain... | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
-Well done, Vana. -Great job. -So happy. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
..to fight it out to become Lord Sugar's business partner. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:33
7am. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:44 | |
PHONE RINGS | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
-Hello? -'Good morning. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:54
'Lord Sugar would like you to meet him at City Hall. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:56
'The cars will be with you in 20 minutes.' | 0:03:56 | 0:03:58
For the finalists... | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
-We've to be at City Hall in 20 minutes. Ready? -I'm getting up. -OK. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:04
..it's head-to-head. | 0:04:04 | 0:04:06
Vana's a very credible candidate, | 0:04:06 | 0:04:08
but I'm going to try my best and I'm here to win. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
We are not here for the same reasons. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
I'm here because I want to create an impact on the world. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
He's here because he wants to become a billionaire. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
On the banks of the Thames... | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
..City Hall. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:30
London's political powerhouse | 0:04:33 | 0:04:36
and location for Lord Sugar's final showdown. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
Good morning. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:57
JOSEPH AND VANA: Good morning, Lord Sugar. | 0:04:57 | 0:04:59
Only one of you can receive my £250,000 investment, | 0:04:59 | 0:05:03
so this is your last opportunity to convince me it should be you. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:09
And for your final task I want you to launch your businesses. | 0:05:09 | 0:05:13
You need to research your market and produce a digital billboard | 0:05:13 | 0:05:17
and promotional video. | 0:05:17 | 0:05:18
And in a few days' time, | 0:05:18 | 0:05:20
you'll be back here presenting to 200 industry specialists. | 0:05:20 | 0:05:25
Well, there's a lot to do, so I've arranged some help. | 0:05:25 | 0:05:28
Vana, heads or tails? | 0:05:39 | 0:05:41
Heads. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:42
Tails. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:43
Joseph, choose your first assistant. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:46
Erm, I'm going to go with Gary, please. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:50
I'm going to go with Richard. | 0:05:55 | 0:05:56
Brett, please. | 0:06:00 | 0:06:01
Charleine. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:04
Elle, please. | 0:06:05 | 0:06:06
Ruth, please. | 0:06:09 | 0:06:10
Mergim, please. | 0:06:12 | 0:06:13
Natalie. | 0:06:16 | 0:06:17
I wanted you anyway. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:19
-VANA LAUGHS -Promise. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:20
Now, Vana, you really need to prove to me that there is | 0:06:22 | 0:06:25
a market out there for your dating business | 0:06:25 | 0:06:28
and that my £250,000 won't be quickly swallowed up. | 0:06:28 | 0:06:32
And, Joseph, you have a small-time plumbing business at the moment. | 0:06:32 | 0:06:37
You're going to have to explain how you're going to grow that to | 0:06:37 | 0:06:41
make it into a substantial company. | 0:06:41 | 0:06:44
So I look forward to seeing you all in a couple of days' time. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:47
Off you go. | 0:06:47 | 0:06:48
Two days to prove plans can become profitable partnerships. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:57
Great to see you again, boys. | 0:06:57 | 0:06:59
Congratulations. | 0:06:59 | 0:07:00
Really pleased to be on Vana's team. | 0:07:02 | 0:07:04
She's very switched on, very well-educated person. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:07
-She'll know what she'll want to do. -We are just vessels of Vana. | 0:07:07 | 0:07:11
First for both finalists, put the plans to their troops. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
Essentially it's an online dating app. | 0:07:16 | 0:07:19
It's about playing games in order | 0:07:19 | 0:07:20
to figure out who you should be matched with. | 0:07:20 | 0:07:23
The types of games will be like brainteasers, psychometric tests, | 0:07:23 | 0:07:26
we want to figure out if you're empathetic, if you're a risk taker, | 0:07:26 | 0:07:29
all those things, but we want to figure them out without asking you. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:32
There is a scientific algorithm matching you with a person, | 0:07:34 | 0:07:38
based on who you are. It's not just some random algorithm. | 0:07:38 | 0:07:41
The way we do it is with this Oxford PhD. He's going to be | 0:07:41 | 0:07:44
the brains behind it, so it's something that makes sense | 0:07:44 | 0:07:46
because he actually has a PhD in desire. | 0:07:46 | 0:07:49
Gaming meets dating. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:53
This is a novel, but complicated concept, | 0:07:53 | 0:07:55
but Richard is a self-proclaimed marketing expert | 0:07:55 | 0:07:58
so maybe he can communicate it in her branding. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
I'll just table one idea that I've sketched out | 0:08:01 | 0:08:03
here in terms of the billboard. | 0:08:03 | 0:08:05
You could have just two people on their phones. | 0:08:05 | 0:08:08
Coming up on the phones could be things like | 0:08:08 | 0:08:11
"extrovert", "determined", "risk taker". | 0:08:11 | 0:08:13
I know I've chosen a really good team. | 0:08:13 | 0:08:15
I need someone on board who can help pitch, brand and market, | 0:08:15 | 0:08:19
and that's Richard's expertise. | 0:08:19 | 0:08:21
I might not like him as a person, but I like him in business. | 0:08:21 | 0:08:25
I could take your concept and make sure that billboard holds up | 0:08:25 | 0:08:28
to what your concept is. | 0:08:28 | 0:08:30
I like that idea. | 0:08:30 | 0:08:32
Across the hall... | 0:08:32 | 0:08:33
Guys, great to see you again. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:35
..a warm reunion. | 0:08:35 | 0:08:36
My existing business is a plumbing, heating and maintenance business. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:40
What our aim is to do is to expand the business, | 0:08:40 | 0:08:43
moving into renewable technologies like the solar panels. | 0:08:43 | 0:08:46
So you start with an initial investment, | 0:08:46 | 0:08:49
have the system installed and then you get free hot water. | 0:08:49 | 0:08:53
I want to make sure I'm on the same level as you. | 0:08:53 | 0:08:55
I pretty much understand everything | 0:08:55 | 0:08:56
you mentioned apart from the renewable technologies. | 0:08:56 | 0:08:59
Joseph picked returning candidates based on how much he liked them, | 0:08:59 | 0:09:02
not based on how much they could help him. | 0:09:02 | 0:09:04
See the tag line I've come up with is "creating a sweeter future", | 0:09:04 | 0:09:07
obviously cos you've got the play with the Lord Sugar element. | 0:09:07 | 0:09:09
'And there's no inspiration' | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
and I think he'll be kicking himself that he didn't pick people with | 0:09:11 | 0:09:14
a much more creative and marketing background than the people here. | 0:09:14 | 0:09:17
You need to start thinking about image | 0:09:17 | 0:09:19
and that's what we need you to be able to say, what your vision is. | 0:09:19 | 0:09:23
Yeah. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:25 | |
10:30. | 0:09:25 | 0:09:26
Half of each team heads off to research their market | 0:09:28 | 0:09:31
and create a digital billboard. | 0:09:31 | 0:09:33
I really like the idea that the game that you play starts to | 0:09:33 | 0:09:36
influence the person that you're going to be introduced to. | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
You always think, | 0:09:39 | 0:09:40
"Why would I be attractive to the opposite sex and then..." | 0:09:40 | 0:09:43
-Aw. You're OK, Richard. -Didn't ever have any problems in my day. | 0:09:43 | 0:09:47
Back at base... | 0:09:49 | 0:09:50
-The words "play" and "date" have to be in the name. -OK. | 0:09:50 | 0:09:53
So that's why I'm thinking Date Play. | 0:09:53 | 0:09:56
..name sorted for Vana. | 0:09:57 | 0:09:59
Actually, can you just make the word "play" in the fuchsia? | 0:09:59 | 0:10:03
Next, putting love into the logo. | 0:10:03 | 0:10:05
-You don't want to be too feminine, as well. -The pink is not pink. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:09
-It's like pinkish-reddish. -Do you want any aspect of it to look fun? | 0:10:09 | 0:10:12
I don't really want too much fun. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:14
On the other team... | 0:10:14 | 0:10:16
How about the name My Plumber? | 0:10:16 | 0:10:17
The protege. | 0:10:17 | 0:10:19
..aiming for a bold new brand-name... | 0:10:19 | 0:10:23
What about something like The Plumbing Co? | 0:10:23 | 0:10:25
-..Joseph, Gary and Mergim. -Do you want to write this up on there? | 0:10:25 | 0:10:29
Enerplutuer. E-N-E-R-P-L-U-T-U-E-R. | 0:10:29 | 0:10:33
Basically, the way I've come up with it is put | 0:10:33 | 0:10:35
"future", "plumbing" and "energy", and just mixed the words up. | 0:10:35 | 0:10:40
So, I just thought of one, guys. PrimeTime Plumbers. PTP. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:44
-Rolls off the tongue. -PrimeTime Plumbers. Hm? | 0:10:44 | 0:10:48
Right. | 0:10:48 | 0:10:50
For Vana's digital billboard creatives... | 0:10:50 | 0:10:53
I'm thinking having a girl, | 0:10:53 | 0:10:55
sat there lonely at home sort of thing, glass of wine, do you know? | 0:10:55 | 0:10:58
Then you've got the lonely old man, you know, as Richard would be, | 0:10:58 | 0:11:02
and then you down on one knee | 0:11:02 | 0:11:04
and then it shows how they've taken this lonely moment together? | 0:11:04 | 0:11:08
Working with Charleine, it's depressing at times, | 0:11:08 | 0:11:11
and it's funny at times, but what we're doing is presenting | 0:11:11 | 0:11:16
the dream of what this could be and I think we'll be able to do that. | 0:11:16 | 0:11:20
So I'm still thinking boy and girl back-to-back, | 0:11:20 | 0:11:23
playing on a phone, and those words come out through the phone - | 0:11:23 | 0:11:26
"determined", "go-getter", whatever, and the girl's got the same thing, | 0:11:26 | 0:11:30
she's like, "Yeah, I'm a determined go-getter," etc, | 0:11:30 | 0:11:33
-and then they come together into a heart. -OK, that works. | 0:11:33 | 0:11:36
Back working with Richard, you know what Richard's like. | 0:11:39 | 0:11:42
It's kind of Richard's way. | 0:11:42 | 0:11:43
But it's something that I never really got on board with. | 0:11:43 | 0:11:46
We need to get it from one place, same height, same everything. | 0:11:46 | 0:11:49
-Do you do photography? -Honestly, I do this all the time. | 0:11:49 | 0:11:53
You could do maybe like a... like a...like a... | 0:11:53 | 0:11:57
-You tell me, then. -I'm only joking. | 0:11:57 | 0:11:59
Why don't you do it first and then I'll follow you, then? | 0:11:59 | 0:12:02
Then we'll get the same looks, then? | 0:12:02 | 0:12:04
'It's definitely going to take | 0:12:04 | 0:12:05
'all my acting ability to make out that we're in love.' | 0:12:05 | 0:12:08
Yeah, tell you what, walk over there. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:10
Then just relax and then just start... | 0:12:10 | 0:12:12
A few weeks ago, I could have throttled him, | 0:12:12 | 0:12:14
and there he is, down on one knee to me. | 0:12:14 | 0:12:17
Mid-afternoon. | 0:12:21 | 0:12:23
Putting Joseph's renewable plan to market leaders British Gas... | 0:12:23 | 0:12:27
We've got a few questions that | 0:12:27 | 0:12:29
we want to run through with you if that's OK. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:31
..Brett and Elle. | 0:12:31 | 0:12:32
Joseph is really interested in growing renewable technology | 0:12:32 | 0:12:35
so really one of the main questions we have for you is where you | 0:12:35 | 0:12:38
-see that going. -It's not that big in the UK yet. | 0:12:38 | 0:12:41
It's a significant capital investment to put solar | 0:12:41 | 0:12:44
panels on your roof. | 0:12:44 | 0:12:46
He's just trying to latch on to the fact we are all getting green. | 0:12:46 | 0:12:48
This is not a market that will be mass-market in the next five years. | 0:12:48 | 0:12:52
-Hi, it's Elle speaking. -Hi, Elle, how are you doing? | 0:12:55 | 0:12:58
A couple of key things. With the renewable technology, | 0:12:58 | 0:13:01
it's not something that's taking off in the next five years or so. | 0:13:01 | 0:13:05
She said a lot of her customers, | 0:13:05 | 0:13:07
they're a bit kind of nervous about going into it yet. | 0:13:07 | 0:13:10
It's that initial cost and generally it is quite a large amount. | 0:13:10 | 0:13:14
'It's not... You know...' | 0:13:14 | 0:13:16
All right, then, bye. Speak to you soon. Bye. Bye. | 0:13:16 | 0:13:20
I have my vision and I know what I wanted | 0:13:20 | 0:13:22
and it's hard to now think of something else that'll work. | 0:13:22 | 0:13:26
Renewable technology is 15 years away, but he seems to be | 0:13:26 | 0:13:29
putting this at the forefront of his campaign and that's a real risk | 0:13:29 | 0:13:33
because most people don't even know what it is, let alone how to get it. | 0:13:33 | 0:13:37
I do think that there is a big market for renewable | 0:13:37 | 0:13:40
energy that is something that is coming in. | 0:13:40 | 0:13:42
I can't see anything else working. | 0:13:42 | 0:13:44
-For Date Play... -Welcome. -Thank you. | 0:13:46 | 0:13:49
..a chance to pick up pointers... | 0:13:49 | 0:13:51
We're looking to launch a dating app paired through gaming. | 0:13:51 | 0:13:53
..from online giant eHarmony. | 0:13:53 | 0:13:56
The lady that's actually putting this together, | 0:13:56 | 0:13:58
she's a very intelligent person. | 0:13:58 | 0:14:00
The games aren't just going to be | 0:14:00 | 0:14:01
like your tacky sort of cheesy games. | 0:14:01 | 0:14:03
It'll be like a lot of in-depth and brain and science | 0:14:03 | 0:14:07
and everything behind it. | 0:14:07 | 0:14:08
You're probably going to have to demonstrate your unique | 0:14:08 | 0:14:11
selling points to drive awareness of the brand | 0:14:11 | 0:14:14
because it is such a crowded market. | 0:14:14 | 0:14:16
You know, what kind of marketing do you want to put behind it? | 0:14:16 | 0:14:19
We're creating a digital billboard and we are also creating a TV | 0:14:19 | 0:14:22
advert, so what key messages do you think we need to get across? | 0:14:22 | 0:14:27
Strong imagery is important, and make sure that your brand | 0:14:27 | 0:14:30
feels really fresh and modern and not cheesy. | 0:14:30 | 0:14:34
I think cheesy has been done in this industry. | 0:14:34 | 0:14:36
We ourselves and others have learned the lessons from that. | 0:14:36 | 0:14:39
-Look forward to putting this into action. -Good luck. -Thank you. -Great. | 0:14:39 | 0:14:43
-Hello? -Hello, how are you doing? | 0:14:43 | 0:14:46
-The super sub team. -We thought we'd give you some feedback. | 0:14:46 | 0:14:49
'What I took out of it as being the most important bits for you | 0:14:49 | 0:14:52
'is the brand is really important.' | 0:14:52 | 0:14:54
Like, get rid of the cheesy boy and girl staring into each other's eyes. | 0:14:54 | 0:14:58
-OK. -No cheese. -I don't agree with that, but OK. | 0:14:58 | 0:15:01
'I like the continuity between the ad and the billboard. | 0:15:01 | 0:15:05
'You and Charleine will be in both.' | 0:15:05 | 0:15:07
I think that's important and I think we're telling a clear story. | 0:15:07 | 0:15:10
-Thank you. -All right, cheers, bye. | 0:15:10 | 0:15:12
Telling us not to do male and females. | 0:15:14 | 0:15:16
It's like, OK, we've got this new age, like... It's dating! | 0:15:16 | 0:15:21
We're going to have the company name across the top with | 0:15:25 | 0:15:28
a naked flame with our still going in behind. | 0:15:28 | 0:15:30
Applying Joseph's renewable approach to PrimeTime's digital billboard... | 0:15:30 | 0:15:35
The solar energy represents renewable sources. | 0:15:35 | 0:15:37
..Brett and Elle... | 0:15:37 | 0:15:39
-Then some biomass energies. Is that all right? -Yeah. -Fantastic. | 0:15:39 | 0:15:42
I think for Joseph at the moment, it he's not necessarily 100% | 0:15:42 | 0:15:45
clear how he wants to portray his business idea. | 0:15:45 | 0:15:47
Let's take a couple of pictures of the flame to pick the best one, | 0:15:47 | 0:15:50
cos sometimes flames obviously move naturally. | 0:15:50 | 0:15:53
I've tried to incorporate some sort of fun with it, | 0:15:53 | 0:15:55
make it a little bit more snazzy. | 0:15:55 | 0:15:57
We've tried to make the best out of a potentially bad situation. | 0:15:57 | 0:16:00
I think you might have to go further away. | 0:16:00 | 0:16:01
But then I've got your hand on it. | 0:16:01 | 0:16:04
-For God's sake. -Don't put your fingers over the end. | 0:16:04 | 0:16:06
I tried to flick it again so it was ready. | 0:16:06 | 0:16:08
In east London... | 0:16:10 | 0:16:11
I do actually think it's a good logo. What do you think? | 0:16:11 | 0:16:13
-Yeah. -It's eye-catching, I think. | 0:16:13 | 0:16:15
..PrimeTime Plumbers finally has a logo. | 0:16:15 | 0:16:18
The whole point of this is to be innovative | 0:16:18 | 0:16:20
and stand out from the competition. | 0:16:20 | 0:16:23
-I think it gives an elegant side to it, as well. -Yeah, I'm happy. | 0:16:23 | 0:16:28
-KARREN: -Joseph needs to understand how he takes his small business | 0:16:28 | 0:16:31
and grows it into a nationwide business. | 0:16:31 | 0:16:33
But instead he's focusing on the logo. | 0:16:33 | 0:16:36
It's not very modern. | 0:16:36 | 0:16:37
He just ought to really think about what is his USP, | 0:16:37 | 0:16:41
what makes him unique and why is he the service you should go to? | 0:16:41 | 0:16:45
With logos signed off... | 0:16:45 | 0:16:47
-I think it looks good. -Yeah? -Yeah. | 0:16:47 | 0:16:49
..time for finishing touches... | 0:16:49 | 0:16:51
We've got two miserable-looking people with our company name on it. | 0:16:51 | 0:16:54
That picture needs some words. | 0:16:54 | 0:16:56
..for Date Play. | 0:16:56 | 0:16:57
That needs to flash in a box with a black and pink border. | 0:16:57 | 0:17:01
Stop flashing in boxes with black and pink borders. | 0:17:01 | 0:17:04
-Can you make it sparkle? -Ruth, stop sparkles. | 0:17:04 | 0:17:08
On the other team... | 0:17:08 | 0:17:10
This is going to represent his company... | 0:17:10 | 0:17:12
..the big reveal of PrimeTime Plumbers. | 0:17:12 | 0:17:15
-ELLE: -It's not what I was expecting. | 0:17:15 | 0:17:16
I think he's missed a trick with the colour element. | 0:17:16 | 0:17:21
It's not what I thought of. | 0:17:21 | 0:17:22
HE SCOFFS | 0:17:22 | 0:17:24
HE SNORTS | 0:17:26 | 0:17:27
If that's took three men three hours, | 0:17:27 | 0:17:30
that's effectively nine man-hours to produce something like that. | 0:17:30 | 0:17:33
It's not the way I'd portray my brand-new business to have looked. | 0:17:33 | 0:17:36
If he's happy with it and he likes it, what more can we do? | 0:17:36 | 0:17:40
-RICHARD: -Yes. Bravo, guys. | 0:17:42 | 0:17:45
-RUTH: -Hopefully, we've kept it classy. | 0:17:45 | 0:17:47
We don't want cheesy. So, you know, I think we've ticked all the boxes. | 0:17:47 | 0:17:52
-Happy? -Yeah. -Happy? -Happy! | 0:17:52 | 0:17:55
-Yeah. -Well done. -Well done, well done, Ruthy baby. | 0:17:55 | 0:17:58
I just don't think it stands out enough. | 0:17:58 | 0:18:00
The billboard won't be | 0:18:00 | 0:18:01
the be all and end all of whether or not he wins. | 0:18:01 | 0:18:03
We can only deal with what we had | 0:18:03 | 0:18:04
and we tried to make the best out of a bad situation. | 0:18:04 | 0:18:07
I just think it all looks a bit shit... | 0:18:07 | 0:18:10
in the nicest way possible. | 0:18:10 | 0:18:12
Oh, God. | 0:18:12 | 0:18:13
8am. | 0:18:19 | 0:18:21 | |
We have our storyboard here for the video promo to see | 0:18:21 | 0:18:24
if you guys have any feedback. | 0:18:24 | 0:18:26
Today, the teams must film promos for their fledgling businesses. | 0:18:26 | 0:18:30
OK, so, here we have Charleine playing on her phone. | 0:18:30 | 0:18:33
Taking charge of her video, Vana. | 0:18:33 | 0:18:35
Then we have Richard playing on his phone in a different shot, | 0:18:35 | 0:18:38
then we have jugglers and a light show. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:40
So it'll be like a metaphor for what's going on behind the scenes. | 0:18:40 | 0:18:43
I want to be there during the filming | 0:18:43 | 0:18:46
because I think the real challenge will be getting across the main | 0:18:46 | 0:18:49
ideas, so I want to make sure that I'm there as well in order to | 0:18:49 | 0:18:53
have all the tools I need to give a good presentation tomorrow. | 0:18:53 | 0:18:56
Date Play, the only dating app using scientifically | 0:18:56 | 0:18:59
-formulated games to help match you. -Nice, like it. | 0:18:59 | 0:19:02
Elle, I hope you don't mind and, Brett, I hope you don't mind, | 0:19:02 | 0:19:04
but I want to use you as actors in the video. | 0:19:04 | 0:19:07
Oh, Christ, here we go. | 0:19:07 | 0:19:09
On the other team, Joseph gets to grips with his promo. | 0:19:09 | 0:19:13
So, Brett, we've got you the boiler suit and the tool bag. | 0:19:13 | 0:19:16
-So then you come in. -Ta-da. | 0:19:16 | 0:19:18
Wow, that was fast. PrimeTime Plumbers. | 0:19:18 | 0:19:21
So, Mergim's going to be the overseer. | 0:19:21 | 0:19:24
Everything that is coming out, basically. | 0:19:24 | 0:19:26
The fact that Joseph's giving Mergim | 0:19:26 | 0:19:28
the role of overseeing the promo today is a little bit concerning. | 0:19:28 | 0:19:32
Just make sure the message comes across, | 0:19:32 | 0:19:34
that's the key to the advert. | 0:19:34 | 0:19:36
Stand there as a viewer and make sure that everything is clear. | 0:19:36 | 0:19:38
I know from experience what can happen when you give | 0:19:38 | 0:19:41
Mergim any responsibility, so we'll have to see how that pans out. | 0:19:41 | 0:19:45
Ruth and Natalie are going to be going to the app developers. | 0:19:45 | 0:19:48
Tasked with finalising Vana's figures... | 0:19:48 | 0:19:51
What's important is proving that this money will go further | 0:19:51 | 0:19:55
than Lord Sugar thinks it will go. | 0:19:55 | 0:19:56
..Natalie and Ruth. | 0:19:56 | 0:19:58
-So I want Lord Sugar to see... -Yes. -..this is totally possible with the money. | 0:19:58 | 0:20:01
And you need to know what you'll be spending out afterwards. | 0:20:01 | 0:20:04
Yeah. And what I also know. | 0:20:04 | 0:20:06
What's really important today is that WE show and prove to Lord Sugar | 0:20:06 | 0:20:10
that his investment is not going to be wasted. | 0:20:10 | 0:20:12
That's what's really important to get from this group this morning. | 0:20:12 | 0:20:15
And by gorra - they're going to give us it. | 0:20:15 | 0:20:17
-RICHARD: -After you, ladies... | 0:20:19 | 0:20:21
9:30am. | 0:20:21 | 0:20:23
I'm kind of freaking out. | 0:20:24 | 0:20:25
You guys need to ask the right questions. | 0:20:25 | 0:20:27
I want you to run this, cos Ruth can be a little wordy. | 0:20:27 | 0:20:30
You need to ask about...if it's feasible, how long it will take. | 0:20:30 | 0:20:33
But the most important questions are going to be around costings. | 0:20:33 | 0:20:36
So around the cost of developing the app. | 0:20:36 | 0:20:39
Now I've just got images of me just kind of going, "Oh, no... | 0:20:40 | 0:20:44
"my pipes have burst," then Brett running in going, "Oh, hang on, let me grab a tool..." | 0:20:44 | 0:20:48
I've been stitched up here! | 0:20:48 | 0:20:49
Central London. | 0:20:51 | 0:20:53
Wouldn't I shout, "Mergim, the fire's not working..."? | 0:20:53 | 0:20:55
-You'd be like - "Oh. PrimeTime Plumbers." -Yeah. | 0:20:55 | 0:20:58
Running up for record... | 0:20:58 | 0:20:59
Location for PrimeTime Plumbers: The Movie. | 0:20:59 | 0:21:02
I'm off to run a bath. | 0:21:02 | 0:21:05
Mergim, the fire's not working. | 0:21:05 | 0:21:07
-STIFFLY: -Neither is the bath! | 0:21:07 | 0:21:09
HE LAUGHS | 0:21:09 | 0:21:10
-Cut(!) -Mergim, no! | 0:21:13 | 0:21:15
-BRETT MIMICS HIM -"Neither is the bath!" | 0:21:16 | 0:21:17
What are you doing?! | 0:21:17 | 0:21:19
Action... | 0:21:19 | 0:21:21
Well - what are we going to do about it? I'm freezing. | 0:21:21 | 0:21:23
I'll get hold of PrimeTime Plumbers, | 0:21:23 | 0:21:25
-on the... -HE CRACKS UP | 0:21:25 | 0:21:26
That was perfect! | 0:21:26 | 0:21:27
-Guys, honestly... -Brett, what can we do? Cos I'm trying. | 0:21:27 | 0:21:31
How can you not laugh at that face? Look at it. | 0:21:31 | 0:21:34
-It's starting to look like a 1970s porno. -Action... | 0:21:34 | 0:21:37
Well - what are we going to do about it? | 0:21:37 | 0:21:40
What are you laughing for?! | 0:21:40 | 0:21:42
Ohhh...! | 0:21:42 | 0:21:44
Representing the inner workings of Vana's dating app... | 0:21:46 | 0:21:51
-You guys are amazing. -..a group of jugglers. | 0:21:51 | 0:21:54
It's representative of them passing data, | 0:21:54 | 0:21:56
with them juggling | 0:21:56 | 0:21:57
-and passing the lights to each other. I think it's a good metaphor. -Definitely, definitely. | 0:21:57 | 0:22:01
It is a hard sell. This whole thing is asking people mentally | 0:22:01 | 0:22:05
to make a leap from real people on phones | 0:22:05 | 0:22:07
to some sort of weird, | 0:22:07 | 0:22:09
surreal app world, | 0:22:09 | 0:22:12
so we have juggling, dancing... | 0:22:12 | 0:22:14
And MAYBE that's enough, but it's a big ask. | 0:22:14 | 0:22:18
-HE CROONS: -# This is the night... # | 0:22:18 | 0:22:20
Rekindling the romance... | 0:22:20 | 0:22:22
-# ..and they call it... # -..Richard and Charleine. | 0:22:22 | 0:22:25
Guys, no. Seriously. | 0:22:25 | 0:22:27
You look like a freak. | 0:22:27 | 0:22:28
OK, no rose. | 0:22:28 | 0:22:30
I can't believe I've found my ideal match... | 0:22:30 | 0:22:32
Right, too forced. Try again. | 0:22:32 | 0:22:34
Vana, Richard and Charleine have had a whale of a time today | 0:22:34 | 0:22:37
creating the video... | 0:22:37 | 0:22:38
-RICHARD: -It's really good to get to know you like this. | 0:22:38 | 0:22:41
Richard... Your wedding ring. | 0:22:41 | 0:22:43
'The fact is, though, that Vana's head should really be thinking | 0:22:43 | 0:22:46
'about what could persuade Lord Sugar she can create' | 0:22:46 | 0:22:49
a website, an app, and everything that goes with it, | 0:22:49 | 0:22:52
and, most importantly, create a profit out of this business. | 0:22:52 | 0:22:56
-You made it happen. -The sparks were flying! -The sparks were flying. -Yeah. | 0:22:56 | 0:22:59
Holborn. | 0:22:59 | 0:23:01
-NATALIE: -Hello... -MAN: -Hi there. -RUTH: -Hello, there, hi. | 0:23:01 | 0:23:04
Sent to meet app developers for Vana's vital figures... | 0:23:04 | 0:23:08
People will play games, and they'll be matched scientifically by what they do on the games. | 0:23:08 | 0:23:13
..Ruth and Natalie. | 0:23:13 | 0:23:14
How much would it generally cost for that app to be developed? | 0:23:14 | 0:23:17
The starting price would be, say, £30,000 to £40,000. | 0:23:17 | 0:23:19
The important thing to think about an app is it's never finished - | 0:23:19 | 0:23:22
some of the leading apps, | 0:23:22 | 0:23:23
you know, you're talking hundreds and hundreds of thousands of pounds. | 0:23:23 | 0:23:26
-That'll probably soak up your initial investment. -The sky is the limit. | 0:23:26 | 0:23:30
In terms of return on investment for your client, | 0:23:30 | 0:23:32
what sort of figures are being bandied about in THEIR minds? | 0:23:32 | 0:23:37
It will be a long time before you get to a sort of a critical mass | 0:23:37 | 0:23:40
where you can actually start to monetise it. | 0:23:40 | 0:23:42
You're walking into such a crowded marketplace, | 0:23:42 | 0:23:44
and none of this happens overnight | 0:23:44 | 0:23:46
and I think your investor needs to understand that | 0:23:46 | 0:23:48
it's about playing the long game, | 0:23:48 | 0:23:50
and creating a brand more than anything else. | 0:23:50 | 0:23:53
-NATALIE: -'Hello.' | 0:23:53 | 0:23:55
Hi, yes. How are you guys? | 0:23:55 | 0:23:57
Some of them did say that it is possible to create an app for 30 to 40 grand. | 0:23:57 | 0:24:02
'One person did say that he thought you would get through the whole investment in a few months.' | 0:24:02 | 0:24:06
'So he was including marketing in that budget, correct?' | 0:24:06 | 0:24:08
No, he was... We asked them specifically how much would it cost | 0:24:08 | 0:24:12
'to just develop the app. Wasn't about marketing.' | 0:24:12 | 0:24:14
-Yeah. Can I just clarify... -No. | 0:24:14 | 0:24:17
'The guy said that was to launch an app.' | 0:24:17 | 0:24:19
-Vana... -Let me just check. -..my opinion was that it was just for | 0:24:21 | 0:24:24
'app development. I'm pretty certain that was the case.' | 0:24:24 | 0:24:27
-All right. OK. -Bye, Vana, good luck. | 0:24:27 | 0:24:29
They are confused between them of what the developers actually said, | 0:24:29 | 0:24:33
-which I'm not surprised about - I mean, it's Ruth and Natalie... -CHARLEINE: -Yeah. Scatterbrained. | 0:24:33 | 0:24:37
The fact that Ruth and Natalie | 0:24:37 | 0:24:39
weren't able to even | 0:24:39 | 0:24:41
be on the same page about feedback is pretty shocking. | 0:24:41 | 0:24:45
This is cut-throat, this is competitive, | 0:24:45 | 0:24:46
and there isn't room for these types of errors. | 0:24:46 | 0:24:48
Late morning. | 0:24:50 | 0:24:51
Lord Sugar's made it very, very clear that he needs me to show him | 0:24:51 | 0:24:55
this is big enough for him to invest in. | 0:24:55 | 0:24:58
To help PrimeTime hit the big time, | 0:24:58 | 0:25:00
for Joseph, a meeting with company bigwigs. | 0:25:00 | 0:25:03
So, thank you very much for your time this morning. | 0:25:03 | 0:25:06
His aim - find out what it takes to serve commercial clients. | 0:25:06 | 0:25:10
I currently run my own business, | 0:25:10 | 0:25:12
I've been in the plumbing and heating industry for around ten years, | 0:25:12 | 0:25:15
and we do all different types of domestic work. | 0:25:15 | 0:25:18
The reason I am here today is to find out | 0:25:18 | 0:25:20
how I'm going to enter into a slightly bigger, | 0:25:20 | 0:25:23
more corporate market. | 0:25:23 | 0:25:24
-Does anybody use renewable technologies in their business at the moment? -Yes. | 0:25:24 | 0:25:28
It's a very crowded market, | 0:25:28 | 0:25:30
which has suffered from the unpredictability of government policy around renewables. | 0:25:30 | 0:25:33
I'm more interested in smart technology. | 0:25:33 | 0:25:35
If I've got a water pump that has four pumps and one's breaking down, | 0:25:35 | 0:25:39
I want to know - I'm not on site. | 0:25:39 | 0:25:40
I've never heard of anything like that, to be honest, | 0:25:40 | 0:25:43
so that is a nice thing to look into. | 0:25:43 | 0:25:45
What is the one unique thing | 0:25:45 | 0:25:46
that you're going to provide that'll make us notice you? | 0:25:46 | 0:25:49
Service is the main thing. The companies that I've dealt with in the past, | 0:25:49 | 0:25:53
I made sure I was there straightaway, | 0:25:53 | 0:25:54
the job was outstanding, the price very competitive... | 0:25:54 | 0:25:57
What you do have is a very personable personality | 0:25:57 | 0:26:00
and I think that that's probably going to carry you quite far. | 0:26:00 | 0:26:03
I think that that's what you need to hone, if anything, a little more. | 0:26:03 | 0:26:07
Joseph made the wrong decision yesterday - | 0:26:07 | 0:26:09
he spent all day faffing around with the logo. | 0:26:09 | 0:26:11
'But thankfully today he's come here, he's gleaned so much information...' | 0:26:11 | 0:26:15
Growth is the key to getting the investment, and he focused today on that. | 0:26:15 | 0:26:20
For Joseph, a last-minute change of direction. | 0:26:20 | 0:26:23
-'Hi, Elle, how you doing?' -Yeah, good. You? | 0:26:23 | 0:26:25
'Is there any way that you could incorporate' | 0:26:25 | 0:26:27
a smart technology scene into that filming? | 0:26:27 | 0:26:30
-BRETT: -'Not really. Erm...' -'Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, we can...' | 0:26:30 | 0:26:33
Maybe Mergim could literally look at his phone, go, | 0:26:33 | 0:26:36
-"I'll book it on the app." -BRETT: -Yeah, I know what you mean. | 0:26:36 | 0:26:38
-No, that's fine. -No worries, we can do that, that's no problem. -'Cheers, then.' | 0:26:38 | 0:26:42
Next, a plan to turn praise | 0:26:42 | 0:26:43
into tools for tomorrow's pitch. | 0:26:43 | 0:26:46
I'm going to ask everybody | 0:26:46 | 0:26:48
to do a quick soundbite, something like, | 0:26:48 | 0:26:50
"Listening to PrimeTime Plumbers | 0:26:50 | 0:26:52
"I would potentially like to work with them in the future." Is that something you could say? | 0:26:52 | 0:26:56
The opportunity that PrimeTime Plumbers has | 0:26:56 | 0:26:58
is to create a really reliable brand. | 0:26:58 | 0:27:01
It's nice that you said PrimeTime Plumbers, as well. | 0:27:01 | 0:27:03
-I hope I'm about to get some shares or something. -THEY LAUGH | 0:27:03 | 0:27:06
I think Joe's got a terrific idea here. | 0:27:06 | 0:27:09
And I think Joseph has got a great future in this industry. | 0:27:09 | 0:27:12
Obviously we're hoping to come to London at some point, could I take your card? | 0:27:12 | 0:27:15
-Thank you. Cheers. Take care. -Let's have a chat when you're done. -Definitely, thank you very much. | 0:27:15 | 0:27:20
6:30pm. | 0:27:22 | 0:27:25
Still with unanswered questions about her finances, | 0:27:25 | 0:27:28
Vana calls for advice from the top... | 0:27:28 | 0:27:31
-'Hello.' -Hi. Erm, is this Mr Bertrand? | 0:27:31 | 0:27:35
..the managing director of eHarmony. | 0:27:35 | 0:27:38
Is this possible with £250,000? | 0:27:38 | 0:27:40
'I think it's possible, | 0:27:40 | 0:27:42
'I think you're going to have to be probably focused on a small number of features | 0:27:42 | 0:27:48
'because you have limited budget.' | 0:27:48 | 0:27:51
You do think that IS something that could work? | 0:27:51 | 0:27:53
'It's a very, very competitive market. | 0:27:53 | 0:27:55
'There are ten to 15 new dating apps | 0:27:55 | 0:27:57
'running out of business every week in the UK, | 0:27:57 | 0:28:00
'and it's very hard to get people to want to pay | 0:28:00 | 0:28:03
'for a dating app, because they've got so much choice for free.' | 0:28:03 | 0:28:06
So, I understand that that will be a difficult aspect of this. | 0:28:06 | 0:28:10
-'Good luck.' -Thank you very much, take care. -'Take care.' -Bye! | 0:28:10 | 0:28:14
(Right.) | 0:28:15 | 0:28:16
The warning signs are there for Vana. | 0:28:16 | 0:28:18
Because £250,000 investment | 0:28:18 | 0:28:21
is unlikely to be able to produce an app that then generates revenue. | 0:28:21 | 0:28:26
I think she's going to need more than the amount | 0:28:26 | 0:28:28
that Lord Sugar has on offer, | 0:28:28 | 0:28:30
and that may very well cause him a problem. | 0:28:30 | 0:28:32
9:00pm. | 0:28:34 | 0:28:36
So, I think tomorrow, Gary, will be one of the biggest days of my life. | 0:28:36 | 0:28:40
Feeling nervous obviously, | 0:28:40 | 0:28:42
I've never spoke in front of 200 people before. | 0:28:42 | 0:28:45
Is there any story why you went into that industry, from day one? | 0:28:45 | 0:28:49
-Because I was expelled from school(?) -GARY LAUGHS | 0:28:49 | 0:28:52
I had nothing else, and I picked it at the time | 0:28:52 | 0:28:54
cos it was there and people said that there was money in it. | 0:28:54 | 0:28:56
D'you think, get all that in there? | 0:28:56 | 0:28:58
Yeah, I mean, in your own way, | 0:28:58 | 0:28:59
having that real passion, I think that'll help. | 0:28:59 | 0:29:01
In life, you don't get these opportunities very often. | 0:29:01 | 0:29:04
I'm feeling excited, I'm feeling nervous. It's a mixed bag of emotions. | 0:29:04 | 0:29:09
It all comes down to me. | 0:29:09 | 0:29:10
7am. | 0:29:18 | 0:29:20 | |
Got a lot of material ready for the pitch. | 0:29:20 | 0:29:22
This is what it's all boiled down to, | 0:29:22 | 0:29:23
all of the hard work, once again. | 0:29:23 | 0:29:25
Today, the finalists present their companies to Lord Sugar. | 0:29:25 | 0:29:29
You three girls are going to go to consumer testing. | 0:29:29 | 0:29:32
It's important for me that you get statistics, so I want numbers. | 0:29:32 | 0:29:35
But first, a chance to test their new brands on the public. | 0:29:35 | 0:29:39
Got some boiler suits and some sandwich boards for you guys to wear... | 0:29:39 | 0:29:44
-Think that looks good? -ALL: Yeah. | 0:29:44 | 0:29:45
Teams dispatched, Vana tackles the flaws in her funding. | 0:29:47 | 0:29:52
We will have to do a second round of fundraising, for sure. | 0:29:52 | 0:29:56
I think you've got two options. | 0:29:56 | 0:29:58
I think you've got, ballsy, and just saying, "I know this is a problem, | 0:29:58 | 0:30:02
-"I'm going to tackle it head-on..." -Yeah, I'd rather do that. | 0:30:02 | 0:30:04
The other option is... | 0:30:04 | 0:30:07
I don't think you have another option. Cos it WILL come up. | 0:30:07 | 0:30:10
I'm going to tackle the issue of funding and financing head-on. | 0:30:10 | 0:30:13
I'm going to talk about raising that next round of financing | 0:30:13 | 0:30:16
through a venture capital fund. | 0:30:16 | 0:30:18
This is not going to be an investment where you're | 0:30:18 | 0:30:21
putting £250,000 in and expecting returns immediately. | 0:30:21 | 0:30:24
Maybe I shouldn't say... "There's a very...slim chance"? | 0:30:24 | 0:30:28
It's something that I think will | 0:30:28 | 0:30:30
kind of protect me | 0:30:30 | 0:30:31
in the sense that I will have put all my cards out on the table, | 0:30:31 | 0:30:35
so I won't get these difficult questions about fundraising. | 0:30:35 | 0:30:40
"This IS a higher-risk investment than a gas or plumbing company, | 0:30:40 | 0:30:43
"but this WILL give you larger returns." | 0:30:43 | 0:30:47
Yes, there's hundreds of tombstones for apps. | 0:30:47 | 0:30:51
But there's also some BIG apps | 0:30:51 | 0:30:53
that have made millions of pounds, | 0:30:53 | 0:30:55
and you could be the next one | 0:30:55 | 0:30:57
-because you've got a great platform to be able to start from. -Yeah. | 0:30:57 | 0:31:01
Liverpool Street Station. | 0:31:04 | 0:31:05
-That looks good. -Yeah, it don't look out of place. | 0:31:05 | 0:31:08
Joseph's team seek feedback for the pitch. | 0:31:08 | 0:31:10
Would you say that you could get a clear message | 0:31:10 | 0:31:13
about what PrimeTime Plumbers is about? | 0:31:13 | 0:31:15
I wouldn't have noticed the advert unless you'd pointed it out. | 0:31:15 | 0:31:18
-I thought it was pretty dull. -Right, OK... | 0:31:18 | 0:31:20
-Why did you choose a grey background? -Kind of maybe the slight issue. -I think colour. -Yeah. | 0:31:20 | 0:31:25
Perhaps you need to think about your name. | 0:31:25 | 0:31:27
I don't think it gets the message at all. | 0:31:27 | 0:31:28
We know we'll get some negative feedback. | 0:31:29 | 0:31:31
Do you reckon it's a good idea to tell Joseph any of this? | 0:31:31 | 0:31:34
-Well, to be honest... -Nah... -We should not overload him. | 0:31:34 | 0:31:37
-They just said it could have been more colourful. -Yeah. -I would literally just say that. | 0:31:37 | 0:31:41
9am. | 0:31:41 | 0:31:43 | |
For the finalists, pitch pending. | 0:31:43 | 0:31:46
I'm going to try and... keep my focus with Lord Sugar. | 0:31:46 | 0:31:51
I want him to see my confidence, I want him to see my passion, | 0:31:51 | 0:31:54
I want him to see that I know what I'm talking about, I want... | 0:31:54 | 0:31:57
I want him to look inside me and see that I'm the right man. | 0:31:57 | 0:32:00
I wish right now you were throwing me into that 20-minute pitch. | 0:32:03 | 0:32:06
I could just do it. | 0:32:06 | 0:32:07
Just don't cheapen what you're doing. | 0:32:07 | 0:32:09
Keep it classy, keep it classy. | 0:32:09 | 0:32:11
Come on... | 0:32:11 | 0:32:13
At Victoria Station... | 0:32:14 | 0:32:17
Oh, my God...! | 0:32:17 | 0:32:19
-Charleine, you look great. -You look beautiful. | 0:32:19 | 0:32:21
..Vana's team pull commuters. | 0:32:21 | 0:32:24
-Have you ever downloaded any dating apps? -No. I have a boyfriend. | 0:32:24 | 0:32:28
You have a boyfriend, that's why. | 0:32:28 | 0:32:29
Would you ever download this ap? | 0:32:29 | 0:32:31
Probably not right now, I have a girlfriend. | 0:32:31 | 0:32:33
I wouldn't go for it, but I actually think, like... | 0:32:33 | 0:32:36
I think people like my dad would go for it. | 0:32:36 | 0:32:39
Your dad would go for it? | 0:32:39 | 0:32:40
City Hall. | 0:32:43 | 0:32:45
Landmark for London. | 0:32:47 | 0:32:49
Today, pitch location for Lord Sugar's finalists. | 0:32:50 | 0:32:55
-Look at this. This is my stage, Gary. -The scene is set. | 0:32:58 | 0:33:02
Look at that... | 0:33:02 | 0:33:04
-IN AWE: -Wow! | 0:33:04 | 0:33:05
First - filter through the feedback. | 0:33:10 | 0:33:13
Overall, quite positive, to be honest - there wasn't any massive negative points, | 0:33:14 | 0:33:18
it was just...the display could have been a bit more colourful. | 0:33:18 | 0:33:22
Take that on the chin. | 0:33:22 | 0:33:23
Yeah. | 0:33:23 | 0:33:24 | |
-VANA: -Was the feedback good or not? -Mixed. -Mixed. OK. | 0:33:24 | 0:33:28
Half of the people we did ask was in a relationship. | 0:33:28 | 0:33:30
I don't want to hear about | 0:33:31 | 0:33:33
the people in a relationship, obviously. | 0:33:33 | 0:33:35
-So can you just tell me the numbers for the single people? -Yeah. Right, OK. | 0:33:35 | 0:33:40
Three people were single. | 0:33:40 | 0:33:42
Yeah. | 0:33:43 | 0:33:44 | |
Out of three single people... | 0:33:44 | 0:33:46
All of them would download. | 0:33:46 | 0:33:48
That's 100%... | 0:33:48 | 0:33:50
Er... Would they use the app? Four said yes, three said they wouldn't... | 0:33:50 | 0:33:53
But are those three people the people in relationships? Cos of course they wouldn't use it. | 0:33:53 | 0:33:57
It's like asking a bald man if he would use Charleine's hair salon. | 0:33:57 | 0:34:02
-Of course he wouldn't, so that's not part of the sample. -Yes. | 0:34:02 | 0:34:05
The three who were single, 100% of them said they would download it. | 0:34:05 | 0:34:08
100% of them said they liked the concept, | 0:34:08 | 0:34:11
and they would pay. | 0:34:11 | 0:34:12
-So from the little feedback we've got, it's been quite positive. -Yeah. | 0:34:12 | 0:34:16
1pm. | 0:34:20 | 0:34:23 | |
Doors open to top names from British industry. | 0:34:23 | 0:34:27
Including experts from the worlds of plumbing... | 0:34:28 | 0:34:32
and dating. | 0:34:32 | 0:34:34
"My name is Joseph Valente. | 0:34:44 | 0:34:47
"I'd like to go back to the beginning, | 0:34:47 | 0:34:49
"and that requires talking about me." | 0:34:49 | 0:34:52
-(Baroness Brady.) -(Lord Sugar.) | 0:35:00 | 0:35:02
Hoping to woo the industry experts... | 0:35:04 | 0:35:07
..Vana Koutsomitis. | 0:35:09 | 0:35:11
APPLAUSE | 0:35:11 | 0:35:12
'I'm basically putting myself on the line. | 0:35:14 | 0:35:16
'I'm showing my creation, | 0:35:16 | 0:35:18
'that might not be accepted or | 0:35:18 | 0:35:22
'welcomed by the industry experts. | 0:35:22 | 0:35:23
'It's nerve-racking presenting my idea in front of a large audience. | 0:35:26 | 0:35:30
'You know that there's no hiding.' | 0:35:30 | 0:35:32
Hello, and welcome. | 0:35:34 | 0:35:36
I have been working in the dating industry | 0:35:36 | 0:35:39
for the past couple of years. | 0:35:39 | 0:35:41
So I really understand the market. | 0:35:41 | 0:35:43
And I think there's room for something new. | 0:35:43 | 0:35:46
I'm introducing Date Play. | 0:35:47 | 0:35:49
This is a concept that marries two very different fields, | 0:35:49 | 0:35:54
but two very GROWING fields - | 0:35:54 | 0:35:56
gaming, and dating. | 0:35:56 | 0:35:58
I'm going to show you a quick video, | 0:35:58 | 0:36:00
so you can understand what we're all about. | 0:36:00 | 0:36:03

People might say, "Oh, there's too many dating apps out there." | 0:36:35 | 0:36:39
But they're wrong. | 0:36:39 | 0:36:40
This is a growing industry. | 0:36:40 | 0:36:43
One in four people | 0:36:43 | 0:36:44
that get married today have met online. | 0:36:44 | 0:36:47
That's telling us something, right? | 0:36:47 | 0:36:49
So, let's go into the details. | 0:36:49 | 0:36:52
Why is Date Play unique? | 0:36:52 | 0:36:55
It will be scientific games, it'll be brainteasers. | 0:36:55 | 0:36:58
It'll be psychometric-type tests. | 0:36:58 | 0:37:00
But they will all be done in an interactive manner | 0:37:00 | 0:37:02
that is engaging for the end user. | 0:37:02 | 0:37:05
So the games will not be just random. | 0:37:05 | 0:37:08
I will be working with an Oxford PhD - | 0:37:08 | 0:37:10
we call him the Doctor of Desire. | 0:37:10 | 0:37:12
CHUCKLING | 0:37:12 | 0:37:13
In terms of the growth strategy, we think we can have 2.4% | 0:37:15 | 0:37:20
of our free users convert to paying users. | 0:37:20 | 0:37:23
What needs to happen now | 0:37:23 | 0:37:25
is we need to prove this model. | 0:37:25 | 0:37:27
We need to get those users on board, and then, if need be, | 0:37:27 | 0:37:31
we can go and do another round of fundraising with a venture capital firm. | 0:37:31 | 0:37:35
I want to quote Romain Bertrand, | 0:37:37 | 0:37:40
who kindly helped with a bit of my market research. | 0:37:40 | 0:37:44
He told me yesterday, | 0:37:44 | 0:37:46
"I think it's definitely possible | 0:37:46 | 0:37:48
"to launch a first version of the app, | 0:37:48 | 0:37:50
"and operate it without having marketing, | 0:37:50 | 0:37:52
"for under £250,000." | 0:37:52 | 0:37:56
Thank you very much for your time today, | 0:37:56 | 0:37:58
and I'd like to open it up to any questions you may have. | 0:37:58 | 0:38:02
The main problem in the industry is | 0:38:02 | 0:38:04
how to actually monetise this business. Why do you think | 0:38:04 | 0:38:08
you'd be any different? | 0:38:08 | 0:38:09
We think there's room for something new. | 0:38:09 | 0:38:11
So this is a NEW opportunity, | 0:38:11 | 0:38:15
that marries dating and gaming. | 0:38:15 | 0:38:17
I think there's room for it - and I'd like to prove it. | 0:38:17 | 0:38:19
Lots of people, they go on to the online dating up | 0:38:19 | 0:38:22
because they literally want to get through at least 100 people a day, | 0:38:22 | 0:38:25
and they are extremely aesthetically-driven. | 0:38:25 | 0:38:29
That feels like a stronger proposition | 0:38:29 | 0:38:31
than somebody who's well psychologically-matched. | 0:38:31 | 0:38:34
I agree. But...there comes a point | 0:38:34 | 0:38:37
where you need a smarter tool to help match people. | 0:38:37 | 0:38:39
What if it can be fun - | 0:38:39 | 0:38:42
but there was actually a thought process | 0:38:42 | 0:38:44
that went on behind the scenes of the app, | 0:38:44 | 0:38:46
that could ensure that you weren't going to meet ANOTHER boring date? | 0:38:46 | 0:38:51
Thank you so much for your time, I really enjoyed being here today. | 0:38:51 | 0:38:54
Oh, my God, it was like, so energising. | 0:39:04 | 0:39:06
-I was dodging questions... -You did so well. -You did, honestly. | 0:39:06 | 0:39:10
-It was great. -Oh... -BRETT: -Well done. -I'm so relieved. | 0:39:10 | 0:39:12
There are risks to it, | 0:39:12 | 0:39:14
but the capital value of the dating business is huge. | 0:39:14 | 0:39:17
For Lord Sugar - feedback from the experts. | 0:39:17 | 0:39:20
When they stick, they stick well - and it's viral | 0:39:20 | 0:39:23
and there's a lot there that could make it work. | 0:39:23 | 0:39:25
I'd invest in her as a person. | 0:39:25 | 0:39:27
In terms of the idea, I think she's going to need a bit more help. | 0:39:27 | 0:39:30
-Further investment... -Yeah. -..would make that business grow. That's how the model works. | 0:39:30 | 0:39:34
That's what I'm coming round to thinking - £250,000 | 0:39:34 | 0:39:37
to get the thing off the ground and to demonstrate that it is scalable... | 0:39:37 | 0:39:42
Don't be nervous. Do yourself proud. | 0:39:44 | 0:39:47
About to take the plunge... | 0:39:47 | 0:39:49
-You know your business, you know your market. -..Joseph Valente. | 0:39:49 | 0:39:53
'This is the biggest pitch of my life, | 0:39:55 | 0:39:57
'everything we've done in this process comes down to this. | 0:39:57 | 0:40:00
That was my chance to show Lord Sugar who I am, what I'm about. | 0:40:02 | 0:40:05
Not only Lord Sugar but the industry. | 0:40:05 | 0:40:08
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:40:13 | 0:40:15
Please let me introduce you to... | 0:40:15 | 0:40:18
PrimeTime Plumbers. | 0:40:18 | 0:40:19
I would like to go back to where it all began | 0:40:21 | 0:40:24
and that starts with myself, | 0:40:24 | 0:40:25
which just happens to be my favourite subject. | 0:40:25 | 0:40:28
I started plumbing and heating when I was 15 years old. | 0:40:28 | 0:40:32
I then progressed. I started my first business in 2012, | 0:40:32 | 0:40:36
in Peterborough, and I was able to very, very quickly take on | 0:40:36 | 0:40:41
multiple engineers, have an office, employ a small infrastructure, | 0:40:41 | 0:40:46
and now what I need to do is to push this brand out of Peterborough | 0:40:46 | 0:40:50
and grow through larger cities. | 0:40:50 | 0:40:52
My team has put together a promotional video | 0:40:52 | 0:40:54
and I'd like to show you that now. | 0:40:54 | 0:40:57
I'm off to run a bath. | 0:40:58 | 0:41:01
Mergim, the fire's not working. | 0:41:02 | 0:41:05
-The bath is not working neither. -What are we going to do about it? | 0:41:05 | 0:41:09
-I'm freezing. -I'll book PrimeTime Plumbers on their app. | 0:41:09 | 0:41:12
DOORBELL RINGS | 0:41:12 | 0:41:14
Hi, I'm Brett from PrimeTime Plumbers. | 0:41:14 | 0:41:16
Oh, wow. That's quick. | 0:41:16 | 0:41:17
That's all done for you now. | 0:41:17 | 0:41:18
The fire's been serviced and your hot water's running. | 0:41:18 | 0:41:21
Thank you so much. We were freezing when we got in. | 0:41:21 | 0:41:23
Well, you know you can get the app from PrimeTime Plumbers, which | 0:41:23 | 0:41:26
enables you to be able to control all your heating from your phone. | 0:41:26 | 0:41:29
'PrimeTime Plumbers, | 0:41:29 | 0:41:31
'providing a local service to the nation 24/7. | 0:41:31 | 0:41:34
'Find us on Facebook and Twitter.' | 0:41:34 | 0:41:37
So, my vision for the brand is to expand it across the country, | 0:41:39 | 0:41:44
but it's the way we go to market is the difference. | 0:41:44 | 0:41:47
So we go to market through property management companies, | 0:41:47 | 0:41:50
getting large portfolios that way. | 0:41:50 | 0:41:52
This allows you to build the business very quickly | 0:41:52 | 0:41:54
and, hopefully, one day, we are a nationwide business. | 0:41:54 | 0:41:58
The future of this industry, in my mind, is going to be based | 0:41:58 | 0:42:02
around smart technology. Controlling our thermostats on the app, | 0:42:02 | 0:42:06
running a bath when we're not even at home, but I think it's key to | 0:42:06 | 0:42:09
not forget plumbing and heating has been around for thousands of years. | 0:42:09 | 0:42:14
It started basic in the Roman times | 0:42:14 | 0:42:16
and it's progressed throughout the years, and I think it's going | 0:42:16 | 0:42:20
to move on into the future, into the space age of our human race. So... | 0:42:20 | 0:42:25
Yeah, the plumbing and heating industry is massive, basically. | 0:42:25 | 0:42:30
I'd like to thank you all for listening to me today. | 0:42:30 | 0:42:33
Any questions? | 0:42:33 | 0:42:34
I loved your presentation, | 0:42:34 | 0:42:35
-I loved the energy and enthusiasm you brought to it. -Thank you. | 0:42:35 | 0:42:38
Your whole service concept really struck me - | 0:42:38 | 0:42:41
I think that's a good concept. | 0:42:41 | 0:42:42
How are you going to make sure you recruit | 0:42:42 | 0:42:44
and select engineers that live up to it? | 0:42:44 | 0:42:46
I think that it's a process that requires vetting. | 0:42:46 | 0:42:49
It's finding the right people and then it's holding on to those people, | 0:42:49 | 0:42:53
and making sure they don't leave your business. | 0:42:53 | 0:42:56
If you plan to grow through partnerships with property | 0:42:56 | 0:42:59
management companies, how are you going to get the business | 0:42:59 | 0:43:02
development skills that you need to win those contracts? | 0:43:02 | 0:43:05
I think it's key to build relationships, | 0:43:05 | 0:43:07
act very professional, talk to them about the service that you provide, | 0:43:07 | 0:43:11
tell them how easy you can make their life, | 0:43:11 | 0:43:13
to make your business stand out. | 0:43:13 | 0:43:15
APPLAUSE | 0:43:15 | 0:43:16
Thank you. | 0:43:19 | 0:43:20
Yes! Smashed it! | 0:43:25 | 0:43:28
So good! Well done! | 0:43:28 | 0:43:30
The feeling that that gave me must be | 0:43:30 | 0:43:32
like when you score in the World Cup! | 0:43:32 | 0:43:35
I thought it was terrifically articulate, very engaging, | 0:43:35 | 0:43:39
and he has a certain style and manner about him. | 0:43:39 | 0:43:41
He definitely is right that there are some growth markets | 0:43:41 | 0:43:45
in smart technologies, but he needs to really focus on what | 0:43:45 | 0:43:48
he's good at and to build a reputation for himself. | 0:43:48 | 0:43:51
I think he can build a nice business. | 0:43:51 | 0:43:54
I guess the question is - | 0:43:54 | 0:43:55
-can he build a really successful business? -Hm. | 0:43:55 | 0:43:58
Pitches over. | 0:44:01 | 0:44:03
Tomorrow, the final boardroom. | 0:44:05 | 0:44:09
You can go through to the boardroom now. | 0:44:32 | 0:44:34
-Good morning. -ALL: -Good morning, Lord Sugar. | 0:44:59 | 0:45:02
Well, welcome back, past candidates. | 0:45:02 | 0:45:07
I've got to choose today to fix broken hearts or broken boilers, | 0:45:08 | 0:45:13
-one of the two. -LAUGHTER | 0:45:13 | 0:45:15
So I'll start off with Joseph. | 0:45:15 | 0:45:18
So, on day one, | 0:45:18 | 0:45:20
you concentrated on the logo and the company name, is that right? | 0:45:20 | 0:45:25
That's right. I did spend a lot of time | 0:45:25 | 0:45:27
going through a number of names. | 0:45:27 | 0:45:29
-Yeah, PrimeTime Plumbers you came up with in the end, yeah? -Yep. | 0:45:29 | 0:45:33
-Mergim, you came up with an interesting one, didn't you? -Yeah. | 0:45:33 | 0:45:37
HE LAUGHS | 0:45:37 | 0:45:39
-Still inspired. -LAUGHTER | 0:45:39 | 0:45:43
It's nice to see you back again, Mergim. | 0:45:43 | 0:45:45
I was thinking about you the other day. | 0:45:45 | 0:45:48
I was demolishing a building somewhere | 0:45:48 | 0:45:49
and there was some shelves that had to be destroyed. | 0:45:49 | 0:45:52
I thought, "Mergim, that's right up your alley." | 0:45:52 | 0:45:55
Anyway, the logo and the digital billboard. | 0:45:55 | 0:45:59
Yeah, we were required to carry out the digital billboard. | 0:46:00 | 0:46:03
Joseph wanted pictures to signify exactly what the company does | 0:46:03 | 0:46:06
with regards to the plumbing, the heating and the renewable technologies | 0:46:06 | 0:46:10
and I think that we did really get that across. | 0:46:10 | 0:46:12
Feedback about it wasn't great though, was it? | 0:46:12 | 0:46:14
They just said it was a bit bland, that's all they did say. | 0:46:14 | 0:46:17
It sounds like pretty much a wasted day, I think, yeah? | 0:46:17 | 0:46:19
If I'm coming up with a brand and I'm presenting to you, I don't | 0:46:19 | 0:46:22
think spending a number of hours on it is a wasted day by any means. | 0:46:22 | 0:46:26
The name is not the be all and end all of a decision | 0:46:26 | 0:46:29
that I'm going to make over the business partner | 0:46:29 | 0:46:33
or whether business is successful. You know, what's in a name? | 0:46:33 | 0:46:36
What's important is to understand the business. | 0:46:36 | 0:46:39
That's what I set you to do. | 0:46:39 | 0:46:40
In fact, you sent Brett and Elle to talk | 0:46:40 | 0:46:43
to the lady from the large energy organisation. | 0:46:43 | 0:46:46
Yeah, that's right. | 0:46:46 | 0:46:48
You didn't think you were better off deployed going to see them? | 0:46:48 | 0:46:51
I'm lucky because I chose Brett and he's very clued up, | 0:46:51 | 0:46:53
and I feel that he was able to convey, along with Elle, | 0:46:53 | 0:46:56
the questions that I wanted answering. | 0:46:56 | 0:46:58
I didn't think I needed to meet her personally. | 0:46:58 | 0:47:00
One of Joseph's ideas is about this renewable energy. | 0:47:00 | 0:47:03
-That's correct. -Yeah. -She said that it's not really going to take off | 0:47:03 | 0:47:06
for another five to ten years, but it is important... | 0:47:06 | 0:47:09
-Five to 15 she told me, yeah. -Ah. Five to 15, yeah. | 0:47:09 | 0:47:13
Anyway, the video. | 0:47:13 | 0:47:15
I saw your acting ability in it, Mergim, | 0:47:15 | 0:47:18
and I would suggest that you stick to your day job. | 0:47:18 | 0:47:21
-HE LAUGHS -No, no, actually, it was OK. | 0:47:21 | 0:47:25
It was good, it told the story. Anyway... | 0:47:25 | 0:47:27
We did have an idea, once we got the storyboard, | 0:47:27 | 0:47:30
that it was going to look very, sort of '80s porno, | 0:47:30 | 0:47:33
where we've got a leak and then the plumber turns up. | 0:47:33 | 0:47:37
But we knew that it was for Joseph, | 0:47:37 | 0:47:38
so we had to get a serious take on it, and I'm pretty sure that | 0:47:38 | 0:47:41
Joseph was really happy with the end result, to be honest. | 0:47:41 | 0:47:43
-You was in it also. -A little bit, yeah. -You was the plumber, yeah. | 0:47:43 | 0:47:46
It only seemed right. | 0:47:46 | 0:47:48
Trustworthy plumber you look like. | 0:47:48 | 0:47:50
Easy to find as Lord Lucan, I think. And then, Joseph, you and Gary | 0:47:50 | 0:47:55
-went off to a focus group, is that right? -Yes, that's right. | 0:47:55 | 0:47:58
I know a lot about the domestic market, so I wanted to go to | 0:47:58 | 0:48:01
the large businesses and see what that market was all about. | 0:48:01 | 0:48:04
-It was a good meeting, wasn't it? -It was a really good meeting, yeah. | 0:48:04 | 0:48:07
You learnt a lot. And I'll tell you what else Joseph did, | 0:48:07 | 0:48:09
-he got the business cards of six or seven... -I heard about that. | 0:48:09 | 0:48:12
Yeah, leading businesses. | 0:48:12 | 0:48:14
You've got more cheek than Kim Kardashian, I think. | 0:48:14 | 0:48:17
-LAUGHTER -Yeah. | 0:48:17 | 0:48:19
-Yeah, that was good. Good. Happy working with Joseph? -Brilliant. | 0:48:22 | 0:48:25
-Absolutely brilliant. -Completely think it's going to work. | 0:48:25 | 0:48:28
-They good for you? -The team were amazing. | 0:48:28 | 0:48:30
-Once again, thank you very much for all your help. -Good. | 0:48:30 | 0:48:32
-Vana, you came up with this Date Play, didn't you? -Yes. | 0:48:32 | 0:48:36
There aren't many words related to playing and dating | 0:48:36 | 0:48:40
and the combination had to be right. | 0:48:40 | 0:48:42
The business model is all about playing a bit of a game. | 0:48:42 | 0:48:45
The ultimate goal, isn't it, that you're actually putting two people | 0:48:45 | 0:48:48
together, so that when they're down the pub in five years' time, | 0:48:48 | 0:48:52
they'll say, "Do you remember where we met?" | 0:48:52 | 0:48:54
"Yes, stage five of Space Invaders - I'll never forget it." | 0:48:54 | 0:48:58
LAUGHTER | 0:48:58 | 0:49:00
So, in the initial meeting, we wanted a unified strategy | 0:49:00 | 0:49:04
between the digital billboard, the branding and the video. | 0:49:04 | 0:49:06
Which looked like they came out of the same family, which is quite good | 0:49:06 | 0:49:10
from a marketing point of view. | 0:49:10 | 0:49:12
That shows that there's consistency in the marketing message, | 0:49:12 | 0:49:15
which was very good. Then, you three make the video. | 0:49:15 | 0:49:18
-You two are actually starring in it. -Yeah. | 0:49:18 | 0:49:20
This is a date where both of you have got your wedding rings on. | 0:49:20 | 0:49:25
-The perfect match. -LAUGHTER | 0:49:25 | 0:49:28
I would've actually upgraded on that day, if I was given that option, | 0:49:28 | 0:49:33
to actually take another match, Lord Sugar. | 0:49:33 | 0:49:35
It wouldn't work for me. | 0:49:35 | 0:49:37
-You can't say the same joke that many times. -Anyway, yeah, so... | 0:49:37 | 0:49:40
So Ruth and Natalie were going to go meet the app developers. | 0:49:40 | 0:49:44
We were briefed to ascertain whether or not this app could be | 0:49:44 | 0:49:49
launched within the funding that Vana is here to apply. | 0:49:49 | 0:49:53
I know, that is what I sent her off to talk about. | 0:49:53 | 0:49:56
I've got £250,000 to spend, that's it. | 0:49:56 | 0:49:59
I expect you to be making money, not coming, knocking on the door | 0:49:59 | 0:50:02
to me, six months later and saying, "Well, we've blown that. | 0:50:02 | 0:50:05
"Let's move on." | 0:50:05 | 0:50:07
Yeah, so I was really interested to hear | 0:50:07 | 0:50:09
the feedback from London app developers. | 0:50:09 | 0:50:11
We got some positives and negatives. | 0:50:11 | 0:50:13
A lot of people said you could definitely do it | 0:50:13 | 0:50:15
between 75,000 and 100,000. | 0:50:15 | 0:50:17
One man said that it would cost 250,000, so... | 0:50:17 | 0:50:20
I got it. You can build something for 150,000, | 0:50:20 | 0:50:23
but actually a proper one is going to cost a lot more - | 0:50:23 | 0:50:26
that's the bottom line. | 0:50:26 | 0:50:27
So, then, you made that phone call to the dating site expert | 0:50:27 | 0:50:32
and, in fact, you even quoted his positive statements at the event yesterday. | 0:50:32 | 0:50:37
The point was that I wanted to get an expert opinion | 0:50:37 | 0:50:40
to quell your concerns and to calm your worries about the funding problems. | 0:50:40 | 0:50:44
I think you were wonderfully manipulative in that conversation. | 0:50:44 | 0:50:47
You did quite leave out some of the elements that might have put | 0:50:47 | 0:50:50
-a negative slant on it. -Yeah. -Yeah. | 0:50:50 | 0:50:52
15 new apps come to the market every week | 0:50:52 | 0:50:55
and 15 apps go bust every week, is that right? | 0:50:55 | 0:50:58
I think was his words, wasn't it? | 0:50:58 | 0:51:00
You might have that kind of radar where you kind of exclude... | 0:51:00 | 0:51:03
-Selective hearing. -Selective hearing hearing bad news. -Maybe. | 0:51:03 | 0:51:06
-So you're pleased to see on this team, yeah? -Very pleased, yep. | 0:51:06 | 0:51:09
-She was fantastic. -It was a great pleasure to work with her. | 0:51:09 | 0:51:12
-Exciting project, you think, yeah? -Massively, yes. | 0:51:12 | 0:51:15
The fact that linking gaming, which is incredibly popular online, | 0:51:15 | 0:51:18
and also dating, which again is a massively growing industry, | 0:51:18 | 0:51:21
you're almost bringing two big opportunities together. | 0:51:21 | 0:51:25
Well, very helpful, ladies and gentlemen. Thanks for coming back. | 0:51:25 | 0:51:30
It's nice to have seen you again. Thanks a lot. | 0:51:30 | 0:51:32
-ALL: -Thank you. | 0:51:32 | 0:51:35
Take care. Good luck. | 0:51:35 | 0:51:37
-Bye. Good luck, Vana. -Cheers, Vana. | 0:51:37 | 0:51:40
Bye. Good luck. | 0:51:40 | 0:51:42
JOSEPH CLEARS HIS THROAT | 0:51:45 | 0:51:47
Now, Vana, look, I spoke to all of these advisers yesterday | 0:51:51 | 0:51:56
and unanimously they agree with me | 0:51:56 | 0:52:00
that to think that £250,000 | 0:52:00 | 0:52:05
is going to be enough to kick-start | 0:52:05 | 0:52:08
a revenue-earning dating application | 0:52:08 | 0:52:12
is naive, to say the least. | 0:52:12 | 0:52:15
In the presentation that I made to you yesterday, | 0:52:15 | 0:52:18
I had included the information about going to do a round of financing | 0:52:18 | 0:52:22
to venture capital firms and I will tell you | 0:52:22 | 0:52:25
up front that I want to prove this model and go raise more money. | 0:52:25 | 0:52:29
Am I getting the correct feedback from you now that this £250,000 | 0:52:29 | 0:52:35
is really the seed money to prove the model works? | 0:52:35 | 0:52:42
Yes. Because of the nature of this industry, yes. | 0:52:42 | 0:52:45
Yes will be good enough to me. Prove the model works, right? | 0:52:45 | 0:52:48
That is correct. You would be investing in the fact that | 0:52:48 | 0:52:51
you have faith that I can bring this to fruition. | 0:52:51 | 0:52:55
If we can get 100,000 users in six months, we can go... | 0:52:55 | 0:52:59
-Free users. -It could be free users, it could be paying users, | 0:52:59 | 0:53:03
because venture capital firms tend to just want to see traction. | 0:53:03 | 0:53:07
They want to see that there's an upward trend. | 0:53:07 | 0:53:09
I know what they want to see | 0:53:09 | 0:53:10
cos I'm known to be a rather wealthy man | 0:53:10 | 0:53:13
and, when you go to the financial community, | 0:53:13 | 0:53:16
the first thing they will say is, | 0:53:16 | 0:53:17
"Yeah, we like the idea, we'll take a share of it, | 0:53:17 | 0:53:21
"but why doesn't Lord Sugar weigh in a bit more?" | 0:53:21 | 0:53:23
OK. I understand your concern. | 0:53:23 | 0:53:25
There's dozens of venture capital firms out there | 0:53:25 | 0:53:28
and, as you saw with my pitching skills, | 0:53:28 | 0:53:30
I guarantee I can make a pitch and get one investment at least. | 0:53:30 | 0:53:33
That's the way it's going to have to happen. OK. I've got it. | 0:53:33 | 0:53:37
I think I've got it now. | 0:53:37 | 0:53:38
Now, Joseph, I sent you off the other day to address how | 0:53:38 | 0:53:42
you are going to grow this business, right? | 0:53:42 | 0:53:44
Basically, what I was trying to show you with what I did yesterday of how | 0:53:44 | 0:53:47
we were going to grow was the only way we're going to do this | 0:53:47 | 0:53:50
is by moving into different towns, that is how we're going to grow, | 0:53:50 | 0:53:53
so what I would like to do with the money is | 0:53:53 | 0:53:55
basically purchase new vans to be able to move into the new areas. | 0:53:55 | 0:53:59
-Fair enough. -New tools and then pay wages for new staff | 0:53:59 | 0:54:02
to take on the new business. | 0:54:02 | 0:54:04
How are you going to drum up the business? | 0:54:04 | 0:54:06
Going round to the estate agents and doing exactly what I did in Peterborough. | 0:54:06 | 0:54:09
If I can do it there, I can replicate it in another city. | 0:54:09 | 0:54:12
Here I've got a big issue. | 0:54:12 | 0:54:14
-You've got my name associated with this proposed business, OK? -Mm-hm. | 0:54:14 | 0:54:18
Regretfully, the plumber market is known for, well, | 0:54:18 | 0:54:23
sorry to say, cowboys, OK? | 0:54:23 | 0:54:26
I don't want to appear on Anne Robinson's television programme | 0:54:26 | 0:54:30
or get a phone call from her, 12 o'clock at night, | 0:54:30 | 0:54:33
asking me to comment about a bad installation that was done | 0:54:33 | 0:54:36
in a company in which I am an investor. | 0:54:36 | 0:54:40
I think that's down to whether you believe in me | 0:54:40 | 0:54:42
-enough to be able to... -Exactly. | 0:54:42 | 0:54:43
-Exactly, but... -..to not let that happen and to not let you down, in a sense. | 0:54:43 | 0:54:47
And just to let you know also, just one more quick thing, | 0:54:47 | 0:54:50
if you think it's small-time, I don't know exactly how much | 0:54:50 | 0:54:53
money you want me to make, but there is that plumbing and heating company | 0:54:53 | 0:54:56
in London that now currently turn over £14 million. | 0:54:56 | 0:54:58
That guy was a plumber that came from the same | 0:54:58 | 0:55:01
sort of background as me, so there is big money. | 0:55:01 | 0:55:03
I don't know exactly what you want, | 0:55:03 | 0:55:05
-if that's big enough for you or not... -That'll do for a start, yeah. | 0:55:05 | 0:55:08
I am going to have a very, very important chat with Karren | 0:55:08 | 0:55:13
and Claude, and then you're going to come back in here and I'm going | 0:55:13 | 0:55:17
to make my mind up which one of you is going to be my business partner. | 0:55:17 | 0:55:22
It's very, very difficult. | 0:55:33 | 0:55:35
You couldn't get a wider difference between the businesses. | 0:55:35 | 0:55:38
Claude, you've been following Vana. | 0:55:38 | 0:55:40
I think Vana's really coming into her own. | 0:55:40 | 0:55:42
I think that she showed true leadership skills with her team | 0:55:42 | 0:55:46
and the key about Vana is she knows her business inside out. | 0:55:46 | 0:55:49
I think the difficulty with Vana is it's sort of a double risk. | 0:55:49 | 0:55:53
First, she wants your £250,000 to prove that it's a concept | 0:55:53 | 0:55:57
that people will buy into and then she'll go off | 0:55:57 | 0:56:00
and get the big money that she needs to run this business. | 0:56:00 | 0:56:03
But she has got something unique within her concept. | 0:56:03 | 0:56:06
Joseph - I think he's a good bloke. I think he's a fine fellow. | 0:56:08 | 0:56:12
I think he takes great pride in the job that he does. | 0:56:12 | 0:56:14
I think he takes great pride in the fact that he's a hard worker. | 0:56:14 | 0:56:17
I mean, look, Joseph is the DNA of this business. You're buying him. | 0:56:17 | 0:56:21
You know, he may not be the finished article business-wise | 0:56:21 | 0:56:24
but you're buying him. | 0:56:24 | 0:56:26
The question is, can he retain the DNA whilst he builds the company? | 0:56:26 | 0:56:31
I think he will need a watchful eye. | 0:56:31 | 0:56:34
Tough one. Tough one. | 0:56:34 | 0:56:36
PHONE RINGS | 0:56:36 | 0:56:37
-Yes, Lord Sugar? -Could you send the two of them in, please? | 0:56:39 | 0:56:43
'Yes, Lord Sugar.' | 0:56:43 | 0:56:45
You can go through to the boardroom now. | 0:56:45 | 0:56:47
First of all, here you are, 12 weeks into the process, and you've done | 0:57:01 | 0:57:06
exceptionally well, whatever the outcome of today is going to be. | 0:57:06 | 0:57:12
So I have here a proposition, which is technology, and I'm known | 0:57:12 | 0:57:17
to be in this technology business. | 0:57:17 | 0:57:19
And then I have something, | 0:57:19 | 0:57:20
which is the service industry, which is a bit alien to me, I have to say. | 0:57:20 | 0:57:25
Why don't you, one last time, Joseph, | 0:57:25 | 0:57:28
tell me why you think you should be my business partner? | 0:57:28 | 0:57:32
Lord Sugar, I once read a book that changed my life - | 0:57:32 | 0:57:34
the title of the book was What You See Is What You Get. | 0:57:34 | 0:57:37
I'm now sat in front of the author of that book | 0:57:37 | 0:57:40
and what I'm saying to you is what you see is what you get. | 0:57:40 | 0:57:43
I've got ten years' experience in this industry, I'm driven, | 0:57:43 | 0:57:46
passionate, hard-working. | 0:57:46 | 0:57:49
Through these last 12 weeks, I've jumped through hoops to try | 0:57:49 | 0:57:52
and prove to you time and time again that I can adapt and change. | 0:57:52 | 0:57:55
I do need investment, I do need mentoring, but with that | 0:57:55 | 0:57:58
combination, I will make £1 million within five years - | 0:57:58 | 0:58:01
there's no doubt about that - | 0:58:01 | 0:58:03
and I hope you can see me as a person and I hope you buy into me. | 0:58:03 | 0:58:07
Hm. So, Vana, same question - | 0:58:07 | 0:58:11
why should you be my business partner? | 0:58:11 | 0:58:14
I think you've seen my performance in this process. | 0:58:14 | 0:58:17
You've seen how I manage people, | 0:58:17 | 0:58:18
you've seen how I operate in the tasks, you've heard from Claude | 0:58:18 | 0:58:21
and Karren how I operate in the business setting. | 0:58:21 | 0:58:24
And I will make sure that we generate revenues | 0:58:24 | 0:58:27
and generate profits. | 0:58:27 | 0:58:29
And, yes, I will need to raise further capital, | 0:58:29 | 0:58:32
but you would prefer to have a small piece of a bigger pie | 0:58:32 | 0:58:37
than a bigger piece of a smaller pie, and my business will make | 0:58:37 | 0:58:40
a bigger impact on the world than Joseph's business will. | 0:58:40 | 0:58:44
This app has potential to have a much bigger impact | 0:58:44 | 0:58:46
on a much larger scale. | 0:58:46 | 0:58:47
Your clients make £40 a month registration fee. | 0:58:47 | 0:58:51
We make £50 an hour on a callout fee. | 0:58:51 | 0:58:54
Just because it's not global, we can make a lot of money in this country. | 0:58:54 | 0:58:57
Lord Sugar, you're going to invest your £250,000 | 0:58:57 | 0:58:59
and it's going to evaporate. There's no way it's going to take off... | 0:58:59 | 0:59:03
Lord Sugar, I have contacts in the industry that I'm going in. | 0:59:03 | 0:59:06
I'm not going in here blind. | 0:59:06 | 0:59:08
I have experience building websites. | 0:59:08 | 0:59:11
I am able to engage with investors and I am able to sell this product. | 0:59:11 | 0:59:16
-Hm. It's... -Could I say one more quick thing? -Yeah. | 0:59:16 | 0:59:19
Just very quickly, I know you really like technology and that's why | 0:59:19 | 0:59:22
I tried to picture about the smart technology yesterday. | 0:59:22 | 0:59:25
I think me and you could put smart technology into our industry, | 0:59:25 | 0:59:28
pioneer it and we could be the next big players | 0:59:28 | 0:59:31
in the smart technology in our industry. | 0:59:31 | 0:59:33
Look, I know this must be agonising for you, | 0:59:34 | 0:59:37
but I'm going to make a decision now. | 0:59:37 | 0:59:39
Joseph, yeah, you're right, what you see is what you get. | 0:59:41 | 0:59:45
I think I can see what I would get in you | 0:59:45 | 0:59:48
and you certainly impressed Claude and Karren over the past 12 weeks. | 0:59:48 | 0:59:53
But the service industry is one which, well, to be honest with you, | 0:59:53 | 0:59:57
I've never had anything to do with whatsoever. | 0:59:57 | 1:00:00
But I know it can be lucrative. | 1:00:00 | 1:00:02
Vana, you are a very, very, very clever lady - | 1:00:04 | 1:00:09
there is no question of that. | 1:00:09 | 1:00:10
You've adapted very well. You've understood thing well. You get it. | 1:00:10 | 1:00:14
I like technology, I love technology, | 1:00:16 | 1:00:18
that's what I've done all of my business life, | 1:00:18 | 1:00:20
and old habits die hard. | 1:00:20 | 1:00:24
Technology has been my best friend for over 50 years... | 1:00:31 | 1:00:37
..but maybe it's time to make new friends. | 1:00:40 | 1:00:44
And so, Joseph... | 1:00:44 | 1:00:47
you are going to be my business partner. | 1:00:47 | 1:00:50
Thank you. | 1:00:50 | 1:00:52
Thank you, Lord Sugar. It means the world to me. | 1:00:52 | 1:00:54
I'm not going to let you down. | 1:00:54 | 1:00:55
-Really appreciate it. -Congratulations. | 1:00:55 | 1:00:57
Thank you very much. | 1:00:57 | 1:00:58
So, very well done. | 1:01:00 | 1:01:01
Thanks a lot. Off you go. | 1:01:01 | 1:01:03
Thank you. | 1:01:03 | 1:01:04
From task one, I think he showed a certain calibre, | 1:01:16 | 1:01:19
a certain entrepreneurial flair, | 1:01:19 | 1:01:21
-that I think you don't see too often in a young man. -Yeah. | 1:01:21 | 1:01:24
It was a tough one, but you know what? | 1:01:24 | 1:01:26
Joseph, my money, my help - I think he can go far. | 1:01:26 | 1:01:29
Yes! | 1:01:32 | 1:01:33 | |
Come on! | 1:01:33 | 1:01:34
Come on! | 1:01:40 | 1:01:42
I can't believe I'm Lord Sugar's business partner. | 1:01:42 | 1:01:44
I'm ready to work so, so hard. | 1:01:44 | 1:01:46
Since the day I was expelled from school, | 1:01:46 | 1:01:48
I always knew that I was going to do something big in my life. | 1:01:48 | 1:01:51
I'm come such a long way. | 1:01:51 | 1:01:53
I can finally now say that I'm proud of myself, | 1:01:53 | 1:01:55
I feel that I've achieved something big in my life, | 1:01:55 | 1:01:57
and I look forward to doing some amazing things | 1:01:57 | 1:01:59
with Lord Sugar in the future. | 1:01:59 | 1:02:01
18 candidates... | 1:02:04 | 1:02:06
one investment. | 1:02:06 | 1:02:08
Lord Sugar's search for a new business partner is over. | 1:02:08 | 1:02:14
APPLAUSE | 1:02:14 | 1:02:16
We have a winner. Lord Sugar has chosen his next business partner, | 1:02:21 | 1:02:25
which means I can say, "Good evening, I'm Jack Dee. | 1:02:25 | 1:02:28
"Welcome to The Apprentice - You're Hired." | 1:02:28 | 1:02:30
There was a tense moment tonight as, after 12 gruelling weeks, | 1:02:30 | 1:02:33
it looked like Lord Sugar had suddenly | 1:02:33 | 1:02:34
decided on a controversial way of choosing the winner. | 1:02:34 | 1:02:37
-Vana, heads or tails? -Heads. | 1:02:37 | 1:02:40
Meanwhile, chatting away in the car, | 1:02:41 | 1:02:43
Charleine got a frankly worrying response from Ruth. | 1:02:43 | 1:02:46
Really pleased to be on Vana's team. | 1:02:46 | 1:02:48
She's very switched on, very well-educated person - | 1:02:48 | 1:02:51
she'll know what she'll want to do. | 1:02:51 | 1:02:53
We are just vessels of Vana. | 1:02:53 | 1:02:55
Right, OK. Stop the car, please, I want to get out. | 1:02:57 | 1:03:00
And, of course, Mergim auditioned for EastEnders. | 1:03:00 | 1:03:05
Mergim, the fire's not working. | 1:03:05 | 1:03:07
Neither...is...the...bath. | 1:03:07 | 1:03:09
Yeah, look out, Eddie Redmayne, there's a new kid in town. | 1:03:10 | 1:03:14
Joining me on the panel for tonight's final, | 1:03:14 | 1:03:16
we have an embarrassment of riches. | 1:03:16 | 1:03:18
Internationally renowned business advisor Allyson Stewart-Allen, | 1:03:18 | 1:03:21
bestselling author and columnist Grace Dent | 1:03:21 | 1:03:23
and, enough of the riches, is time for the embarrassment - | 1:03:23 | 1:03:26
it's Romesh Ranganathan. | 1:03:26 | 1:03:27
Welcome to You're Hired. APPLAUSE | 1:03:27 | 1:03:30
So, our runner-up made it all the way to the final | 1:03:33 | 1:03:37
but, in the end, it was, "Close, but no Su-gar." | 1:03:37 | 1:03:41
LAUGHTER AND GROANS | 1:03:41 | 1:03:42
I honestly have no idea how that pun made it through to the final. | 1:03:44 | 1:03:48
Technology has been my best friend for over 50 years... | 1:03:50 | 1:03:56
..but maybe it's time to make new friends. | 1:03:59 | 1:04:02
And so, Joseph, you are going to be my business partner. | 1:04:02 | 1:04:09
Thank you. | 1:04:09 | 1:04:10
Thank you, Lord Sugar. It means the world to me. | 1:04:10 | 1:04:12
I'm not going to let you down. | 1:04:12 | 1:04:15
-Congratulations. -Thank you very much. | 1:04:15 | 1:04:18
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the runner-up | 1:04:19 | 1:04:22
of The Apprentice 2015 - Vana Koutsomitis. | 1:04:22 | 1:04:26
AUDIENCE CHEERS | 1:04:26 | 1:04:28
-Oh, Vana! -Hi! | 1:04:36 | 1:04:37
So good to have you here. | 1:04:37 | 1:04:40
And what a popular candidate you've been - you can tell already. | 1:04:40 | 1:04:44
I'm very happy to be here. | 1:04:44 | 1:04:46
You know what? Congratulations for getting so far. | 1:04:46 | 1:04:48
It must have been a tough choice, in the end. | 1:04:48 | 1:04:50
If only there was some kind of gaming app, | 1:04:50 | 1:04:52
where Lord Sugar could have been able to know | 1:04:52 | 1:04:54
who he's best matched to, do you think? | 1:04:54 | 1:04:57
I mean, it was a very close-run thing, we know that. | 1:04:57 | 1:04:59
You may not have come away with an investment, | 1:04:59 | 1:05:02
but you've gained a lot doing this process, surely? | 1:05:02 | 1:05:05
Yeah, and I think, you know, it's all about the match, | 1:05:05 | 1:05:07
so, if you make the right match, | 1:05:07 | 1:05:08
if you and your investor feel that you're compatible, | 1:05:08 | 1:05:12
and you feel that you have the same vision of the future, | 1:05:12 | 1:05:15
and you have the same risk appetite, then it works really well. | 1:05:15 | 1:05:18
But if you don't feel that way, | 1:05:18 | 1:05:19
then it's kind of better to go your separate ways. | 1:05:19 | 1:05:21
Did you have a lot of fun doing it? | 1:05:21 | 1:05:23
-I had a lot of fun. -You had fun. | 1:05:23 | 1:05:25
I learned so much, so it's been great. | 1:05:25 | 1:05:27
Vana, one thing want to know - in the house, | 1:05:27 | 1:05:29
why do all the girls do their hair on the landing? | 1:05:29 | 1:05:32
-So... -What's that about? | 1:05:34 | 1:05:35
-It's a huge house! -Well, I'm not used to it, | 1:05:35 | 1:05:37
but in the UK you can't plug in your blow-dryers | 1:05:37 | 1:05:40
or hair curlers in the bathroom. | 1:05:40 | 1:05:42
In the US, we can, so this is, like, new to me. | 1:05:42 | 1:05:44
So, we had to sit in this special little area with a little mirror | 1:05:44 | 1:05:47
and do... We actually had to stack up, | 1:05:47 | 1:05:49
so I would have to go on the floor cos I was taller than Charleine, | 1:05:49 | 1:05:51
and then Charleine would go behind me, | 1:05:51 | 1:05:53
and we would, like, simultaneously do our hair. | 1:05:53 | 1:05:55
It took coordination. | 1:05:55 | 1:05:56
Sorry about our electrics in this country, anyway. | 1:05:56 | 1:05:59
No... Nothing... It's actually safer, it's actually safer. | 1:05:59 | 1:06:02
OK, that's good to know. | 1:06:02 | 1:06:03
-Yeah. -At least we've got health and safety on our side. | 1:06:03 | 1:06:06
Romesh, did you have Vana down as a finalist right from the beginning? | 1:06:06 | 1:06:09
No. | 1:06:09 | 1:06:11 | |
LAUGHTER | 1:06:11 | 1:06:12
Not that I thought you were bad or anything, | 1:06:12 | 1:06:14
but, you know, you seemed to have the skills, | 1:06:14 | 1:06:16
particularly when it came to where you had to go | 1:06:16 | 1:06:19
and buy the items - I thought you had a bit of a wobble there. | 1:06:19 | 1:06:23
-That was a tough one for me. -Yeah, I mean, especially... | 1:06:23 | 1:06:26
-The cheese, really, like... -OK. | 1:06:26 | 1:06:28
It really outfoxed you, didn't it? | 1:06:28 | 1:06:30
You were sort of going, "Isn't all cheese whole?" It was... | 1:06:30 | 1:06:33
Yeah, but in fairness, where Vana comes from, cheese comes in aerosols, | 1:06:33 | 1:06:37
-so... -Exactly. | 1:06:37 | 1:06:39
-You weren't to know, were you? -Exactly. I was just really confused. | 1:06:39 | 1:06:42
But having said that, as the process went on, as each task went by, | 1:06:42 | 1:06:48
you just sort of looked stronger | 1:06:48 | 1:06:50
and stronger throughout the whole process. | 1:06:50 | 1:06:52
So, no, I didn't have you pegged as a finalist from the beginning, | 1:06:52 | 1:06:54
-but your qualities shone through very quickly. -Thank you. | 1:06:54 | 1:06:57
Well, you might have put together a fantastic pitch | 1:06:57 | 1:06:59
but, in the end, it wasn't quite enough. | 1:06:59 | 1:07:01
Let's just have a look at why. | 1:07:01 | 1:07:04
Vana, you really need to prove to me that there is a | 1:07:04 | 1:07:06
market out there for your dating business. | 1:07:06 | 1:07:09
So, essentially, it's an online dating app. | 1:07:09 | 1:07:11
It's about playing games | 1:07:11 | 1:07:13
in order to figure out who you should be matched with. | 1:07:13 | 1:07:15
Is this possible with £250,000? | 1:07:15 | 1:07:19
'I think it's possible.' | 1:07:19 | 1:07:21
I think there's room for something new. | 1:07:21 | 1:07:24
I'm introducing Date Play. | 1:07:24 | 1:07:27
'It's a match!' | 1:07:27 | 1:07:30
'Date Play - | 1:07:30 | 1:07:31
'date while you play.' | 1:07:31 | 1:07:34
I'd invest in her as a person. | 1:07:34 | 1:07:36
In terms of the idea, I think she's going to need a bit more help. | 1:07:36 | 1:07:38
This £250,000 is really to prove the model works. | 1:07:38 | 1:07:45
Yes, I will need to raise further capital, | 1:07:45 | 1:07:49
but you would prefer to have a small piece of a bigger pie | 1:07:49 | 1:07:53
than a bigger piece of a smaller pie. | 1:07:53 | 1:07:55
Well, sadly, as we now know, it was, "Bye-bye, Miss American Pie." | 1:07:56 | 1:08:00
See what I did there? That was... | 1:08:00 | 1:08:02
That was as good a link as you'll ever get, I think. | 1:08:02 | 1:08:06
So, Vana, your idea itself was very well-received, | 1:08:06 | 1:08:08
people seemed to like it, | 1:08:08 | 1:08:10
but it was the finance side of it that sort of... | 1:08:10 | 1:08:13
Had you underestimated who much it was going to cost? | 1:08:13 | 1:08:15
I think that I thought of this more as a seed investment, | 1:08:15 | 1:08:19
and I thought of it more on the tech side of things, | 1:08:19 | 1:08:21
-because that's the kind of world I have been working in recently. -Yeah. | 1:08:21 | 1:08:24
So, I actually wasn't thinking that it would just be 250,000 | 1:08:24 | 1:08:28
and, all of a sudden, I'd become... I'd create a million dollar company. | 1:08:28 | 1:08:32
I thought it would be 250,000, | 1:08:32 | 1:08:34
then another round of investment, and then a 50 million company. | 1:08:34 | 1:08:39
Grace, what impressed you about Vana? | 1:08:39 | 1:08:40
You are clever and capable, and likeable, | 1:08:40 | 1:08:44
and I think it shone through. | 1:08:44 | 1:08:46
I think you are someone that can be trusted to get things done. | 1:08:46 | 1:08:49
And whether it's selling houses or making sure a cake gets made, | 1:08:49 | 1:08:52
there's a lot to like in you. | 1:08:52 | 1:08:55
-Did you like the idea of this dating app? -Yeah. | 1:08:55 | 1:08:58
I mean, I was thrilled to see someone bring an app | 1:08:58 | 1:09:01
to the table this time. | 1:09:01 | 1:09:02
I've been kind of waiting for this to come, you know, | 1:09:02 | 1:09:05
to be more of a fixture on The Apprentice. | 1:09:05 | 1:09:08
My slight issue with it was that, however it goes, | 1:09:08 | 1:09:11
you always end up going out with a gamer. Isn't that the problem? | 1:09:11 | 1:09:14
-No! -How long do you have to go out with them before you say, | 1:09:14 | 1:09:16
"Look, I'm not really into Warhammer, I just wanted a girlfriend"? | 1:09:16 | 1:09:19
You know, if you're on the Tube in the mornings, | 1:09:19 | 1:09:21
you notice that everyone is playing Candy Crush. | 1:09:21 | 1:09:24
I mean, even your grandma plays Candy Crush, | 1:09:24 | 1:09:26
so it's not necessarily gamers any more. Now it's mainstream. | 1:09:26 | 1:09:29
-OK, that's...and are you still going to develop the idea? -Yeah. | 1:09:29 | 1:09:33
I'm really excited about it and I really believe in the idea. | 1:09:33 | 1:09:35
Oh, good. Good for you. | 1:09:35 | 1:09:37
Allyson, do you detect there's a particular American style | 1:09:37 | 1:09:41
that Vana has brought to the process? | 1:09:41 | 1:09:42
I do. I think, you know, one of the things we do extremely well | 1:09:42 | 1:09:47
is embrace anything new, and it's part of our culture, | 1:09:47 | 1:09:50
and the fact that Vana positioned this as, | 1:09:50 | 1:09:52
"This is new, therefore exciting," | 1:09:52 | 1:09:54
implies that therefore it's better - | 1:09:54 | 1:09:56
and that works extremely well in the US. | 1:09:56 | 1:09:58
This side of the Atlantic, however, people are a little more sceptical. | 1:09:58 | 1:10:01
It takes a little more convincing to get people to like new things. | 1:10:01 | 1:10:05
-Yeah. -So...but I wouldn't lose that enthusiasm | 1:10:05 | 1:10:08
and I wouldn't lose that positioning. | 1:10:08 | 1:10:10
-I think you did a fantastic job. -Thank you. | 1:10:10 | 1:10:12
Do you feel, over the process, you've changed your approach to business - | 1:10:12 | 1:10:15
from being in the UK, or just from what you've learned? | 1:10:15 | 1:10:18
I think I changed my approach to business | 1:10:18 | 1:10:21
because, at the beginning, I kind of came in there being, like, | 1:10:21 | 1:10:24
"I really want to do it and I'm going to make everyone know it." | 1:10:24 | 1:10:27
-Mm-hm. -And then eventually I started realising | 1:10:27 | 1:10:29
that that wasn't really the style here | 1:10:29 | 1:10:30
and it was more appropriate to kind of, like... | 1:10:30 | 1:10:32
Even if you really want to do something, | 1:10:32 | 1:10:34
pretend that you don't, really, | 1:10:34 | 1:10:36
because then people will be, like, more open to the idea. | 1:10:36 | 1:10:39
-So, that's your summary... -That's what I learned. | 1:10:39 | 1:10:41
..of being in Britain, really, isn't it? | 1:10:41 | 1:10:43
Lose the enthusiasm, you might get somewhere. | 1:10:43 | 1:10:46
LAUGHTER | 1:10:46 | 1:10:48
More than any other candidate, though, | 1:10:49 | 1:10:51
you've shown that you would be at home doing business | 1:10:51 | 1:10:54
anywhere in the world. | 1:10:54 | 1:10:55
Let's have a look at this. | 1:10:55 | 1:10:56
I was born and bred in New York City, | 1:10:57 | 1:10:59
and that has taught me that you have to be both street smart | 1:10:59 | 1:11:02
and charismatic in order to be a good leader. | 1:11:02 | 1:11:04
I speak French | 1:11:04 | 1:11:05
and that will be a tool we can use quite well on the ground there. | 1:11:05 | 1:11:08
-Bonjour. -Bonjour. | 1:11:08 | 1:11:10
-Est-ce que vous parlez anglais? -Little bit. | 1:11:10 | 1:11:12
-We're four nice girls... -Yes! -..coming from the UK. | 1:11:12 | 1:11:15
-Seven for 45. -OK. | 1:11:15 | 1:11:18
45 euros for seven crystal glasses - | 1:11:18 | 1:11:20
that's gotta be a steal in anyone's book. | 1:11:20 | 1:11:23
You did do a good deal. | 1:11:27 | 1:11:28
My parents are actually architects in New York, so I'm... | 1:11:28 | 1:11:31
-Oh, so it's an easy conversation! -Yeah, yeah. | 1:11:31 | 1:11:33
Where are you from, by the way? Are you Italian? | 1:11:33 | 1:11:35
From Brazil! | 1:11:35 | 1:11:36
My parents have a three-bedroom in New York | 1:11:36 | 1:11:38
and they're architects, so I know what the flow will be like. | 1:11:38 | 1:11:41
-Thank you. -Thank you. -Thank you! -Take care. -Bye. | 1:11:41 | 1:11:44
So, Vana, you were born in New York | 1:11:49 | 1:11:51
and you went to university in Beijing. | 1:11:51 | 1:11:54
So, actually, it was Shanghai. I'm half Colombian, half Greek. | 1:11:54 | 1:11:57
My mother's Colombian, father's Greek | 1:11:57 | 1:11:59
and grew up in New York, but studied abroad quite a bit, | 1:11:59 | 1:12:01
so I studied in Shanghai and in Paris and in Madrid. | 1:12:01 | 1:12:05
Cos you speak a lot of languages, we found out. | 1:12:05 | 1:12:06
But there was one language that really struggled with, wasn't there? | 1:12:06 | 1:12:09
-Let's just remind ourselves what that was. -Oh... | 1:12:09 | 1:12:12
I'm going to be fluent in Mancunian. | 1:12:12 | 1:12:13
It's like, "Manchestarrr." | 1:12:13 | 1:12:15
-"Manchestarrr," like... -Manchestarrr... | 1:12:15 | 1:12:18
Manche... Give it... You were nearly there. Have another try. | 1:12:19 | 1:12:21
-So, I've been practising... -Yeah? | 1:12:21 | 1:12:23
And I'd say, "I love Man-ches-TA." | 1:12:23 | 1:12:26
-LAUGHTER -Is it better? | 1:12:26 | 1:12:28
-Is that Mandarin? -It sounded... | 1:12:28 | 1:12:30
It sounded a little bit like my mum, actually. | 1:12:30 | 1:12:34
You've got your family here, you said earlier? | 1:12:34 | 1:12:37
-Yes, I have. -Who've you got here? | 1:12:37 | 1:12:38
I have my boyfriend, Joris, | 1:12:38 | 1:12:40
my mom, Maria, and my sister Alexandra. | 1:12:40 | 1:12:42
Hello! We want to know, firstly, how you met your boyfriend. | 1:12:42 | 1:12:45
-I met him... -LAUGHTER | 1:12:45 | 1:12:47
I, regretfully, didn't meet him online. | 1:12:47 | 1:12:49
-Yeah? -I met him at Oxford on our MBA programme. -OK. -Yeah. | 1:12:49 | 1:12:53
-Welcome. -Alexandra, what was Vana like as a sister? | 1:12:53 | 1:12:56
Was she always entrepreneurial? | 1:12:56 | 1:12:58
I tell the story all the time about how she would take my toys | 1:12:58 | 1:13:02
from the apartment and go downstairs, | 1:13:02 | 1:13:04
and sell them on the street. | 1:13:04 | 1:13:05
LAUGHTER | 1:13:05 | 1:13:06
You must, as a family, you must be very proud of her now. | 1:13:06 | 1:13:09
-Yeah. -Yeah. -Amazing. | 1:13:09 | 1:13:10
Now, throughout the evening, | 1:13:10 | 1:13:12
we'll be presenting The Apprentice Awards - | 1:13:12 | 1:13:14
known in the industry as the Sugars - to various candidates. | 1:13:14 | 1:13:17
They're sitting up there, in the audience, | 1:13:17 | 1:13:19
and let's hear about the first award. | 1:13:19 | 1:13:21
And the nominations are... | 1:13:27 | 1:13:28
..Ruth, for losing her shoe, but not her composure... | 1:13:30 | 1:13:34
Ooh! | 1:13:34 | 1:13:36 | |
Lost a shoe. I lost my shoe! Keep going, keep going! | 1:13:36 | 1:13:40
..Mergim, for trying to sell fish to a vegan restaurant... | 1:13:40 | 1:13:45
I want to offer you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. | 1:13:45 | 1:13:48
The fish. | 1:13:48 | 1:13:50
Um, first thing... | 1:13:50 | 1:13:51
That we are a vegan restaurant. | 1:13:51 | 1:13:53
Is there anything I can do to convince you at all? | 1:13:53 | 1:13:56
No. Thank you. | 1:13:56 | 1:13:58
..Gary, for refusing to give up on his dream of cheaper cod... | 1:13:58 | 1:14:01
We're looking at 15 kilos. | 1:14:01 | 1:14:03
-15 - you've got to do us better than that. -Gary! | 1:14:03 | 1:14:05
-Can you...? -8? -Gary! | 1:14:05 | 1:14:07
..and Gary, for refusing to give up on his bid | 1:14:08 | 1:14:11
to climb a four-foot fence. | 1:14:11 | 1:14:14
I'm stuck! | 1:14:14 | 1:14:16
Let's go! | 1:14:16 | 1:14:17
APPLAUSE | 1:14:20 | 1:14:21
Vana, would you do us the honours and let us know who the winner is? | 1:14:21 | 1:14:26
And the winner is... | 1:14:26 | 1:14:28
-Mergim! -Mergim! AUDIENCE CHEERS | 1:14:28 | 1:14:31
Romesh will make the presentation. | 1:14:31 | 1:14:34
-Get in there! -Excuse me. | 1:14:34 | 1:14:35
Excuse me. | 1:14:35 | 1:14:37
Excuse me. | 1:14:37 | 1:14:38
There we go. | 1:14:38 | 1:14:40
-Mergim. -Yes. -Congratulations. | 1:14:42 | 1:14:45
-Thank you. -How do you feel? | 1:14:45 | 1:14:46
Oh, it's just an honour. Honestly, like... | 1:14:46 | 1:14:48
I never thought this day would ever happen. | 1:14:48 | 1:14:50
-It really is, like... -You won something! | 1:14:50 | 1:14:52
Yeah, I've actually won something in my life! | 1:14:52 | 1:14:54
-BRETT: -You might be able to put it on a shelf, now. -Yeah! | 1:14:54 | 1:14:56
LAUGHTER | 1:14:56 | 1:14:57
I'll bring you round to sort it out, yeah? | 1:14:57 | 1:14:59
Yeah, it's literally, like, | 1:14:59 | 1:15:01
I think it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, | 1:15:01 | 1:15:03
and in life you've got to try the impossible. | 1:15:03 | 1:15:05
-OK, don't build up your part. -Congratulations, Mergim! | 1:15:05 | 1:15:08
So, now, Vana, | 1:15:13 | 1:15:14
I don't want to denigrate your business skills at all, | 1:15:14 | 1:15:17
but it would seem that you had a bit of an unfair advantage | 1:15:17 | 1:15:19
all the way through the process. | 1:15:19 | 1:15:21
Is it true you have - how shall we put it - | 1:15:21 | 1:15:23
a psychic side to you? | 1:15:23 | 1:15:25
I wouldn't say it's a psychic side. | 1:15:25 | 1:15:27
-I think I just like using astrology to match people... -Mm-hm. | 1:15:27 | 1:15:30
..and it's something that I get a lot of crap for. | 1:15:30 | 1:15:33
People say, "Ugh, that's so silly. | 1:15:33 | 1:15:35
"You're so educated, how could you believe in that?" | 1:15:35 | 1:15:37
But it's worked for me, so I stand by my beliefs. | 1:15:37 | 1:15:40
So, you can tell when you meet people what their star sign is? | 1:15:40 | 1:15:43
Yeah, and I can ask them a few questions | 1:15:43 | 1:15:44
and figure out quite easily. | 1:15:44 | 1:15:46
Well, I'm normally fairly sceptical about that kind of thing, | 1:15:46 | 1:15:48
but have a look at this. | 1:15:48 | 1:15:51
X-FILES THEME PLAYS | 1:15:51 | 1:15:52
Vana, she's a bit of a psychic. | 1:15:52 | 1:15:54
She's into her dating scene, she's all about the star signs. | 1:15:54 | 1:15:58
Everything with Vana is star signs - | 1:15:58 | 1:16:00
the first thing is she tries and guesses. | 1:16:00 | 1:16:03
The crazy thing about Vana, | 1:16:03 | 1:16:04
and I think what gives credibility to the star sign thing is, | 1:16:04 | 1:16:07
she will guess people's star signs | 1:16:07 | 1:16:10
without having asked them a single question. | 1:16:10 | 1:16:12
It's very interesting because she often gets it right. | 1:16:12 | 1:16:15
I do think she is a bit psychic, in a way. | 1:16:15 | 1:16:16
LAUGHTER | 1:16:19 | 1:16:20
-I like it. -I like that. | 1:16:28 | 1:16:29
Yeah. | 1:16:31 | 1:16:32 | |
-Ooh, that was pretty spooky, wasn't it? -Spooky! | 1:16:34 | 1:16:36
Tell me, in your premonition, did you win The Apprentice, | 1:16:36 | 1:16:39
or were you runner-up still? | 1:16:39 | 1:16:40
-Actually, I had a dream that I was runner-up... -Did you? | 1:16:40 | 1:16:43
..and I know that sounds crazy, but it actually happened. | 1:16:43 | 1:16:45
Grace - mysticism, star signs, astrology - are you into all that? | 1:16:45 | 1:16:49
-No, it's rubbish. -LAUGHTER | 1:16:49 | 1:16:51
No, well, it kind of is, | 1:16:51 | 1:16:52
but I do know that lots of people really do love it - | 1:16:52 | 1:16:56
and it's also very lucrative, so maybe you could move into that, | 1:16:56 | 1:17:01
-because some of the most... -No. -..profitable journalists | 1:17:01 | 1:17:04
are the ones that write the astrology columns. | 1:17:04 | 1:17:07
-But... -It's true! -Those are the most profitable? | 1:17:07 | 1:17:09
Yeah. And they do the phone lines, | 1:17:09 | 1:17:11
and they have people like Vana ring up... | 1:17:11 | 1:17:12
-Oh, I know about the phone lines. -You know what I mean? | 1:17:12 | 1:17:15
-There's a serious point to this, Allyson, isn't there? -Mm. | 1:17:15 | 1:17:17
-There's intuition, isn't there? -Absolutely. | 1:17:17 | 1:17:19
You go on a gut feeling sometimes in business - you go on a hunch. | 1:17:19 | 1:17:22
Yes, and, in fact, the best leaders, and the best businesses, | 1:17:22 | 1:17:25
are those that have been founded on people that had that intuition | 1:17:25 | 1:17:28
and stuck with it, even when people said, | 1:17:28 | 1:17:31
"Oh, that's crazy. That's superstition." | 1:17:31 | 1:17:33
Think about the bagless vacuum cleaner, | 1:17:33 | 1:17:35
think about the portable music players - | 1:17:35 | 1:17:37
those were really from, you know, | 1:17:37 | 1:17:40
the leaders thinking, "This is the right thing to do. | 1:17:40 | 1:17:43
"I believe the market wants this." | 1:17:43 | 1:17:45
-So, you know, it pays a lot of money when you get it right. -Yeah, sure. | 1:17:45 | 1:17:48
OK, well, as you know, throughout the series, | 1:17:48 | 1:17:51
Romesh has been investigating what it might be like to be a candidate, | 1:17:51 | 1:17:55
so what have you been looking at this week, Romesh? | 1:17:55 | 1:17:57
Well, obviously I had a go at all of the tasks | 1:17:57 | 1:17:59
and the one thing I haven't done | 1:17:59 | 1:18:01
is see what it's like to be on the losing team. | 1:18:01 | 1:18:03
Obviously that's outside of my realm of experience. | 1:18:03 | 1:18:06
-LAUGHTER -What I decided to do was simulate | 1:18:06 | 1:18:08
what it would be like to be on the losing team | 1:18:08 | 1:18:10
and I took a visit to the losers' cafe. | 1:18:10 | 1:18:12
Oh, great. Let's have a look. | 1:18:12 | 1:18:14
Excuse me, could I get a skinny soya macchiato, please? | 1:18:14 | 1:18:18
I guess that's a no, then. | 1:18:22 | 1:18:24
Who's responsible for the failure of this task? | 1:18:24 | 1:18:27
As project manager for the losing task, | 1:18:29 | 1:18:30
I've now got to make the decision of who to take back | 1:18:30 | 1:18:33
into the boardroom with me. | 1:18:33 | 1:18:34
Gary, I'm taking you back to the boardroom. | 1:18:34 | 1:18:36
I've got no choice. I've got to take somebody back. | 1:18:36 | 1:18:38
And you know what, Charleine? You're coming, too. | 1:18:38 | 1:18:40
They're not responsible for the failure of this task, | 1:18:40 | 1:18:43
but I'd just quite like to see them get fired. | 1:18:43 | 1:18:45
Richard, why don't you just piss off, mate? | 1:18:45 | 1:18:47
Joseph, where are you going? | 1:18:47 | 1:18:50
-Well, good morning. -Good morning, Lord Sugar. | 1:19:03 | 1:19:05
Let's get going, then. | 1:19:05 | 1:19:07
APPLAUSE | 1:19:07 | 1:19:09
Yeah, well, I know who'd I'd fire - but let's wait and see what happens. | 1:19:12 | 1:19:15
In the meantime, I'm pleased to say that we have the proprietor | 1:19:15 | 1:19:19
of the Bridge Cafe with us tonight. | 1:19:19 | 1:19:21
Please welcome Frank Marcangelo. Here he is. | 1:19:21 | 1:19:23
APPLAUSE | 1:19:23 | 1:19:25
How are you, Frank? | 1:19:25 | 1:19:26
Frank, does it bother you that your cafe | 1:19:30 | 1:19:33
is now known as the "Loser Cafe"? | 1:19:33 | 1:19:35
No, not really. It's actually increased the business a lot. | 1:19:35 | 1:19:38
-LAUGHTER Has it? -I bet it has! | 1:19:38 | 1:19:40
-People love to come there. -Do they? | 1:19:40 | 1:19:41
They see you on The Apprentice, they want to come along? | 1:19:41 | 1:19:43
-Yeah, they come from all over the place. -Do they? | 1:19:43 | 1:19:46
We've even had people from Australia, Hong Kong. | 1:19:46 | 1:19:48
It's ridiculous, really, but it's true. | 1:19:48 | 1:19:50
And they've all said, "We've seen The Apprentice..." | 1:19:50 | 1:19:52
-Yeah, they love it. -Cos I've got to say, | 1:19:52 | 1:19:54
there's nothing else appeals about it, to me, than... | 1:19:54 | 1:19:56
HE LAUGHS | 1:19:56 | 1:19:58
ROMESH CRACKS UP | 1:19:58 | 1:19:59
And do they all come in and sit round with plastic cups and have a row? | 1:20:01 | 1:20:06
We only use plastic cups for The Apprentice, actually. | 1:20:06 | 1:20:09
We have got china cups, really. | 1:20:09 | 1:20:10
AUDIENCE GROANS No, no, no, no. | 1:20:10 | 1:20:13
-Yeah. -Since we're having a little dig at me. | 1:20:13 | 1:20:16
Well, listen, thanks very much for taking the time and coming down. | 1:20:16 | 1:20:19
-My pleasure. -Let's hear it for Frank Marcangelo. | 1:20:19 | 1:20:21
APPLAUSE | 1:20:21 | 1:20:23
So that brings me to your catering skills, Vana. | 1:20:23 | 1:20:28
In particular, the very delicious looking dehydrated crisps | 1:20:28 | 1:20:32
that you made in the... | 1:20:32 | 1:20:34
Yeah, OK. Those actually tasted really good! | 1:20:34 | 1:20:38
I know you won't believe it, but... | 1:20:38 | 1:20:40
Until you tipped a litre of oil all over them! | 1:20:40 | 1:20:42
LAUGHTER | 1:20:42 | 1:20:43
And then you dumped Richard in it, by blaming the packaging, | 1:20:43 | 1:20:46
for which we love you all the more. | 1:20:46 | 1:20:48
-But you got on quite well with Richard, didn't you? -Yes. | 1:20:50 | 1:20:53
I think Richard was actually one of the most talented candidates | 1:20:53 | 1:20:56
when it came to marketing, creativity. | 1:20:56 | 1:20:58
He knew how to pitch, and he knew how to make things happen | 1:20:58 | 1:21:02
when it came to branding, so he was on his own. | 1:21:02 | 1:21:04
I blamed him because I genuinely thought | 1:21:04 | 1:21:06
that he should have listened to me, | 1:21:06 | 1:21:07
and I wanted to get back at him for the sous slave incident, | 1:21:07 | 1:21:10
where he tried to basically make me his slave in the kitchen. | 1:21:10 | 1:21:14
-Yes, for the children's party, making the cake? -Yeah. | 1:21:14 | 1:21:17
He wanted to make me the sous slave | 1:21:17 | 1:21:18
by having me do all the cutting of the bread, | 1:21:18 | 1:21:20
then he wouldn't let me touch the cake, and it was like, | 1:21:20 | 1:21:23
-I knew how to fix the cake. He wouldn't let me touch it. -Yeah. | 1:21:23 | 1:21:25
But you beasted him, didn't you, because in the end, | 1:21:25 | 1:21:28
-he was bowing to you by the end of the property series. -Exactly. | 1:21:28 | 1:21:30
So yeah, good for you. | 1:21:30 | 1:21:32
-Richard, how are you? Are you all right? -I'm very good, thank you. | 1:21:32 | 1:21:34
Vana chose you to be in her team, | 1:21:34 | 1:21:37
Selina chose you to be in her team for the children's party. | 1:21:37 | 1:21:39
-Why do you think that was? -Because I'm amazing, obviously! | 1:21:39 | 1:21:42
-LAUGHTER -Oh, here we go! | 1:21:42 | 1:21:44
Ah, it's good to see you haven't changed, Richard. | 1:21:44 | 1:21:47
Exactly! Nothing changes here! | 1:21:47 | 1:21:48
You did manage the impossible tonight. | 1:21:48 | 1:21:50
You got Richard and Charleine to act as loving couple, didn't you? | 1:21:50 | 1:21:54
Did that take some persuading? | 1:21:54 | 1:21:55
By the end of the process, I was just, like, taskmaster. | 1:21:55 | 1:21:59
I was like, "You're doing this. | 1:21:59 | 1:22:01
"You're acting like you're in love, we're going to make this happen," | 1:22:01 | 1:22:04
because there was no time or room for error. | 1:22:04 | 1:22:06
Yeah, the lovely Ruth as well. Ruth is here. Ruth. | 1:22:06 | 1:22:09
And you were a vessel of Vana, | 1:22:09 | 1:22:11
-weren't you? -A vessel of Vana. Absolutely, yeah! | 1:22:11 | 1:22:14
-Tell me, were Charleine and Richard explosive enough? -Well, they were! | 1:22:14 | 1:22:19
Of course, you know, I wasn't in the process at that time, | 1:22:19 | 1:22:22
so I didn't realise that these guys weren't getting on, | 1:22:22 | 1:22:24
so I just thought, you know, fall in love, | 1:22:24 | 1:22:26
and they were like... "No!" | 1:22:26 | 1:22:27
Now, as ever this year, | 1:22:27 | 1:22:29
the candidates' every move was monitored by Lord Sugar's aides, | 1:22:29 | 1:22:32
who reported their progress back to him. | 1:22:32 | 1:22:35
As you'd expect, Claude and Karren were not easily impressed. | 1:22:35 | 1:22:38
I don't know why you're laughing. | 1:22:38 | 1:22:40
I think we're in trouble with this lot. | 1:22:40 | 1:22:42
# Uh-oh, we're in trouble... # | 1:22:42 | 1:22:44
You've got to engage your brain at some point. | 1:22:44 | 1:22:46
They don't know the first thing about actually how honey is made. | 1:22:46 | 1:22:49
You said that people over the age of 45 don't understand anything new. | 1:22:49 | 1:22:53
No, I don't think I said they don't understand anything new. | 1:22:53 | 1:22:55
Doesn't matter what you meant by it, it was very insulting. | 1:22:55 | 1:22:58
They're all lambs to the slaughter, | 1:22:58 | 1:23:00
because none of them seem capable of coming to a decision. | 1:23:00 | 1:23:02
You wouldn't want to go into an events business with him, | 1:23:02 | 1:23:05
having watched that party, I can assure you. It was bad. | 1:23:05 | 1:23:08
You two were impressive. | 1:23:08 | 1:23:10
You two, not so much. | 1:23:10 | 1:23:11
What a complete waste of time! | 1:23:11 | 1:23:14
-Mergim? -Yes? | 1:23:14 | 1:23:15
-Do you know what you're doing? -Yes. Screwing a nail. | 1:23:15 | 1:23:18
"Screwing a nail"? | 1:23:20 | 1:23:21
I think I'm going to have to go down and lie down for a while, | 1:23:22 | 1:23:25
and put a cold towel on my head. | 1:23:25 | 1:23:27
Sam should be so embarrassed about this. | 1:23:27 | 1:23:30
She just didn't put her back into it. | 1:23:30 | 1:23:31
Which would you rather have, Karren - | 1:23:31 | 1:23:33
someone who is very enthusiastic | 1:23:33 | 1:23:34
or somebody who doesn't seem to care that much? | 1:23:34 | 1:23:37
-Rather have neither. -True. | 1:23:37 | 1:23:39
Vana, you had a bit of a run-in with Karren in the boardroom. | 1:23:42 | 1:23:45
She sort of told you off for giggling after the discount task. | 1:23:45 | 1:23:51
Who is scarier - Karren, Claude, Lord Sugar? | 1:23:51 | 1:23:54
Erm...I think they're all pretty scary in different ways. | 1:23:54 | 1:23:58
So I would say that Lord Sugar is number one scariest, | 1:23:58 | 1:24:02
and then I would say that his scariness is more like | 1:24:02 | 1:24:04
blunt and to the point, like, you can't even speak. | 1:24:04 | 1:24:07
And then I would say Karren is scary, | 1:24:07 | 1:24:09
because she just gives you this look, | 1:24:09 | 1:24:11
and it's like, "You're an idiot," and then Claude is scary, | 1:24:11 | 1:24:14
because he will call you out for your BS so quickly, | 1:24:14 | 1:24:17
and then you'll have your tail between your legs | 1:24:17 | 1:24:20
and you just won't know what to do. | 1:24:20 | 1:24:21
You got off to a good start with the interview with him, didn't you? | 1:24:21 | 1:24:24
You just said, why don't I tell you | 1:24:24 | 1:24:26
what your first question's going to be, and... | 1:24:26 | 1:24:28
I was just, like, so nervous at that point | 1:24:28 | 1:24:30
that I was just speaking too much, | 1:24:30 | 1:24:32
and I think I should have held back, maybe sat down and said hello. | 1:24:32 | 1:24:37
But at that point, I wanted to, basically, distract him | 1:24:37 | 1:24:40
a little bit from maybe the weak points of my business plan. | 1:24:40 | 1:24:42
Allyson, you advise businesses all over the world. | 1:24:42 | 1:24:45
Is what Karren and Claude do, is it easy or harder than it looks? | 1:24:45 | 1:24:49
I think it's a lot harder than it looks. | 1:24:49 | 1:24:51
You have to scrutinise the numbers, | 1:24:51 | 1:24:52
you have to make sure that market research has been done, | 1:24:52 | 1:24:55
that you can validate that there really is demand | 1:24:55 | 1:24:59
for these concepts, | 1:24:59 | 1:25:00
and you also have to watch how they behave in the tasks. | 1:25:00 | 1:25:03
Are they good team leaders? Is the role clear? | 1:25:03 | 1:25:06
Does the team perform well? | 1:25:06 | 1:25:08
So there are a lot of variables that you're watching simultaneously. | 1:25:08 | 1:25:12
I don't think it's easy. | 1:25:12 | 1:25:13
OK. Of course, it was Claude's debut as an aide in the show. | 1:25:13 | 1:25:18
-How do you think he did, Grace? -I love him. | 1:25:18 | 1:25:21
I think he's absolutely amazing. | 1:25:21 | 1:25:22
He just exudes this terrifying quality. | 1:25:22 | 1:25:25
So, Romesh, we saw you earlier in your spiritual home, | 1:25:26 | 1:25:29
otherwise known as The Loser Cafe. What happened next? | 1:25:29 | 1:25:32
Well, I'll choose to ignore your disrespect there, Jack. | 1:25:32 | 1:25:35
But, basically, I've heard so much about how daunting | 1:25:35 | 1:25:38
-the boardroom is, so I decided to give it a go for myself. -Right. | 1:25:38 | 1:25:41
Well, let's have a look at that. | 1:25:41 | 1:25:43
Let's get going, then. | 1:25:43 | 1:25:44
Why do you think I should let you remain in this process? | 1:25:45 | 1:25:49
I think I should remain in the process | 1:25:49 | 1:25:51
because I'm obviously the most talented candidate. | 1:25:51 | 1:25:53
I mean, I've always been an entrepreneur, | 1:25:53 | 1:25:55
starting from when I was four... | 1:25:55 | 1:25:57
When I was 15, yeah, I gave up on business | 1:25:57 | 1:25:59
and tried to go after girls. | 1:25:59 | 1:26:01
That didn't work out, so I went back to business... | 1:26:01 | 1:26:03
I sold a jam sandwich to a kid for 25 pence... | 1:26:03 | 1:26:05
It was about 36, 37, that I realised I didn't want to be a DJ any more, | 1:26:07 | 1:26:12
but unfortunately, I had changed my name legally to DJ Banganathan... | 1:26:12 | 1:26:15
-OK, look. I don't want to hear any more from you. -Can I just say...? | 1:26:15 | 1:26:18
I'm not asking for any comment. | 1:26:18 | 1:26:20
You come across as a very nice chap, but I have concluded... | 1:26:23 | 1:26:27
..that... | 1:26:29 | 1:26:30
..with regret, you're fired. | 1:26:31 | 1:26:33
Well, thank you very much for the opportunity, Lord Sugar, | 1:26:35 | 1:26:37
Karren, Claude. | 1:26:37 | 1:26:39
LAUGHTER | 1:26:48 | 1:26:50
APPLAUSE | 1:26:50 | 1:26:53
Now, it's time for another award, | 1:26:53 | 1:26:55
so let's have a look at who's in the running. | 1:26:55 | 1:26:57
And the nominations are... | 1:27:03 | 1:27:05
Richard, for his novel way of breaking the ice. | 1:27:05 | 1:27:09
Come with me and ice skate. | 1:27:09 | 1:27:11
Dan, for his never-take-no- for-an-answer attitude. | 1:27:13 | 1:27:18
Hello, are you interested in buying some salad? | 1:27:18 | 1:27:21
I don't suppose you'd be interested in buying it at all? | 1:27:21 | 1:27:23
-I haven't got my purse on me! -OK, no worries, no worries. | 1:27:23 | 1:27:26
Ruth, for her thoroughly hands-on approach. | 1:27:27 | 1:27:31
Gosh, aren't you solid? Ooh, aren't you lovely? | 1:27:31 | 1:27:34
And Brett, for really getting the bit between his teeth. | 1:27:36 | 1:27:39
It's not warm, but it's bite proof. | 1:27:39 | 1:27:42
LAUGHTER APPLAUSE | 1:27:42 | 1:27:45
-And, Allyson, would you please let us know who the winner is? -Yes. | 1:27:48 | 1:27:51
The winner is... | 1:27:51 | 1:27:53
Ruth. | 1:27:53 | 1:27:54 | |
APPLAUSE | 1:27:54 | 1:27:57
-Sorry. Sorry again. Congratulations. -You look like a hungry gentleman. | 1:27:57 | 1:28:01
-Ooh, I tell you. -Check out the... | 1:28:01 | 1:28:02
-Fabulous. Aren't you lovely? -Check out the gun show. | 1:28:02 | 1:28:05
LAUGHTER | 1:28:05 | 1:28:06
-Thank you very much. -Sorry, mate. There we go. | 1:28:06 | 1:28:09
-Ruth, how do you feel? -Well, I feel incredible. | 1:28:09 | 1:28:13
I feel validated, in terms of the way that I behaved | 1:28:13 | 1:28:17
and the sales that I created. | 1:28:17 | 1:28:19
-Yeah. -It's for fishcakes, isn't it, not cat towers? | 1:28:19 | 1:28:22
-Yes. -Yeah. -Yeah. | 1:28:22 | 1:28:24
-OK. Great! I'm up for it. -OK. | 1:28:24 | 1:28:26
It's not been the best interview, Jack, but... | 1:28:26 | 1:28:30
Let's give it up for Ruth anyway. Thank you. | 1:28:30 | 1:28:32
APPLAUSE | 1:28:32 | 1:28:34
Vana, congratulations getting so far. | 1:28:39 | 1:28:41
You've really been a fantastic candidate on The Apprentice, | 1:28:41 | 1:28:44
and just like on You're Fired, no-one leaves Your Hired empty-handed. | 1:28:44 | 1:28:48
Now, I know you like the idea of some sort of puzzle which reveals the face | 1:28:48 | 1:28:51
of the person that you've been matched with as the game progresses. | 1:28:51 | 1:28:54
So, with that in mind, I've got you this. | 1:28:54 | 1:28:57
It's a Lord Sugar jigsaw puzzle. There you are. | 1:28:57 | 1:29:00
-What I've always wanted! Thank you! -That's for you to take away. | 1:29:00 | 1:29:03
Thank you very much, Vana. | 1:29:03 | 1:29:04
APPLAUSE | 1:29:04 | 1:29:07
And it's been great having you on this show. | 1:29:07 | 1:29:08
Let's have a look at your highlights. | 1:29:08 | 1:29:10
Just come take a look. There's no harm in that, right? | 1:29:10 | 1:29:12
Vana - so academic, so well spoken. Such a nice person. | 1:29:12 | 1:29:18
# Take a sip from my secret potion | 1:29:18 | 1:29:20
# I'll make you fall in love... # | 1:29:20 | 1:29:22
-Don't break them! -LAUGHTER | 1:29:22 | 1:29:24
You should check it out. Right over there, next to Ann Summers. | 1:29:24 | 1:29:27
LAUGHTER | 1:29:27 | 1:29:29
Vana, a very intelligent, switched-on, inspirational woman. | 1:29:29 | 1:29:33
And someone who has a great head on her shoulders, and a good person. | 1:29:33 | 1:29:38
She's a really good person. | 1:29:38 | 1:29:40
I need some help with the weeding. There's too many weeds. | 1:29:40 | 1:29:42
I think that a lot of single women have cats. | 1:29:42 | 1:29:45
We're literally doing everything we possibly can. | 1:29:46 | 1:29:50
SHE LAUGHS | 1:29:50 | 1:29:52
Ladies and gentlemen, Vana Koutsomitis! | 1:29:52 | 1:29:54
Thank you. | 1:29:54 | 1:29:56
APPLAUSE | 1:29:56 | 1:30:00
So, there's just one more candidate left to meet. | 1:30:00 | 1:30:02
Technology... | 1:30:03 | 1:30:05
has been my best friend for over 50 years. | 1:30:05 | 1:30:10
But maybe it's time to make new friends. | 1:30:13 | 1:30:15
And so, Joseph, you are going to be my business partner. | 1:30:17 | 1:30:23
Thank you. | 1:30:23 | 1:30:24
Thank you, Lord Sugar. It means the world to me. | 1:30:24 | 1:30:26
Not going to let you down. | 1:30:26 | 1:30:28
-Congratulations. -Thank you very much. | 1:30:29 | 1:30:31
Ladies and gentlemen, | 1:30:35 | 1:30:36
please welcome the winner of The Apprentice 2015, | 1:30:36 | 1:30:39
Joseph Valente. | 1:30:39 | 1:30:40
APPLAUSE | 1:30:40 | 1:30:44
Oh, look at that! | 1:30:48 | 1:30:50
Standing...standing ovation. How about that, eh? | 1:30:53 | 1:30:57
Thank you very much. | 1:30:57 | 1:30:58
Listen, you know what, we've got a lot to get through tonight, Joseph, | 1:30:58 | 1:31:01
-so no toilet breaks, nothing, right? -We're good. No toilet breaks. | 1:31:01 | 1:31:04
Has it sunk in yet? You're hired. | 1:31:04 | 1:31:06
No, it's quite overwhelming, you know? It seems surreal. | 1:31:06 | 1:31:09
It's absolutely incredible. | 1:31:09 | 1:31:11
Lord Sugar's my inspiration and to be sitting here | 1:31:11 | 1:31:14
as his business partner is amazing. | 1:31:14 | 1:31:16
And also, since day one, you seem to have really enjoyed yourself, | 1:31:16 | 1:31:20
I thought. Do you think you would have got a lot out of it | 1:31:20 | 1:31:23
even if you hadn't won, you'd be saying the same thing? | 1:31:23 | 1:31:25
Yeah, I mean, every task is a mini business masterclass. | 1:31:25 | 1:31:29
You know, you get to meet so many different people, and work | 1:31:29 | 1:31:32
with everybody, and you're chucked into so many crazy environments. | 1:31:32 | 1:31:35
It's just fantastic. Absolutely amazing experience. | 1:31:35 | 1:31:38
Well, congratulations. | 1:31:38 | 1:31:39
I think it's time that we met your new business partner. | 1:31:39 | 1:31:43
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Lord Sugar. | 1:31:43 | 1:31:46
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 1:31:46 | 1:31:49
Hello. All right, son? | 1:31:57 | 1:31:59
Lord Sugar, a very big welcome to You're Hired. | 1:32:01 | 1:32:03
Lovely to have you here. | 1:32:03 | 1:32:05
Congratulations on choosing a new business partner. | 1:32:05 | 1:32:07
As you said, this is a bit of a new area for you. | 1:32:07 | 1:32:10
-Are you excited about branching out? -Very much so, yes. Very much so. | 1:32:10 | 1:32:14
And I'm also excited for Joseph, | 1:32:14 | 1:32:17
because he is a glowing example | 1:32:17 | 1:32:20
of the reason that I do this Apprentice process. | 1:32:20 | 1:32:23
At the end of the day, what's good about this process, | 1:32:23 | 1:32:26
and in this particular series is, you've got Joseph here | 1:32:26 | 1:32:30
as a great example of what is possible. | 1:32:30 | 1:32:33
He is a self-confessed naughty boy in his early days, as a young chap. | 1:32:33 | 1:32:39
He got himself into a little bit of hot water. | 1:32:39 | 1:32:41
Fortunately, not that serious hot water. | 1:32:41 | 1:32:44
Turned his life around, decided he was going to go to work, | 1:32:44 | 1:32:47
and here he is today, the well-deserved winner of | 1:32:47 | 1:32:51
The Apprentice, and I look forward to him being my business partner, | 1:32:51 | 1:32:54
and I'm going to give him a lot of coaching, | 1:32:54 | 1:32:56
but I hope it inspires a lot of people looking in | 1:32:56 | 1:33:00
to see what is possible in this world. | 1:33:00 | 1:33:03
Two very strong finalists you ended up with. | 1:33:03 | 1:33:05
But only one can win, sadly. Any advice for Vana? | 1:33:05 | 1:33:08
Well, Vana, as everybody has seen, is a highly intelligent young lady, | 1:33:08 | 1:33:13
and she's got this dating application idea. | 1:33:13 | 1:33:18
I'm sure that it might have legs. | 1:33:18 | 1:33:20
And... But it does need a tremendous amount of investment. | 1:33:20 | 1:33:24
This process is all about £250,000. That's your lot. | 1:33:24 | 1:33:29
In the business it goes, and get on with it. | 1:33:29 | 1:33:33
And I think the main decision here was that | 1:33:33 | 1:33:36
we couldn't do it on the 250,000. | 1:33:36 | 1:33:40
OK. Well, let's have a look at how Joseph ended up the winner. | 1:33:40 | 1:33:44
Joseph, you have a small-time plumbing business at the moment. | 1:33:44 | 1:33:48
You're going to have to explain how you're going to grow that to | 1:33:48 | 1:33:52
make it into a substantial company. | 1:33:52 | 1:33:55
What I aim to do is to expand the business, | 1:33:55 | 1:33:59
moving into renewable technologies. | 1:33:59 | 1:34:01
With the renewable technology, | 1:34:01 | 1:34:02
it's not something that's taking off in the next five years or so. | 1:34:02 | 1:34:06
I'm more interested in smart technology. | 1:34:06 | 1:34:08
If I've got a water pump that has four pumps, | 1:34:08 | 1:34:10
and one is breaking down, I want to know that. I'm not on site. | 1:34:10 | 1:34:13
Please let me introduce you to PrimeTime Plumbers. | 1:34:13 | 1:34:18
Well, you know you can get the app from PrimeTime Plumbers, which | 1:34:18 | 1:34:21
enables you to be able to control all your heating from your phone. | 1:34:21 | 1:34:24
Lord Sugar, I once read a book that changed my life. | 1:34:24 | 1:34:26
The title of the book was What You See Is What You Get. | 1:34:26 | 1:34:29
I'm now sat in front of the author of that book, | 1:34:29 | 1:34:32
and what I'm saying to you is, what you see is what you get. | 1:34:32 | 1:34:35
APPLAUSE | 1:34:37 | 1:34:40
So, Joseph, you read Lord Sugar's book. | 1:34:40 | 1:34:45
Was that literally your light bulb moment, | 1:34:45 | 1:34:47
-or whatever the plumbing equivalent of that is? -Literally, yeah. | 1:34:47 | 1:34:50
Was that your U-bend moment, was it? | 1:34:50 | 1:34:52
It was like someone flicked the switch, you know? | 1:34:52 | 1:34:55
My lovely mother over there bought me it for Christmas, | 1:34:55 | 1:34:58
and I read it solid for literally three weeks, | 1:34:58 | 1:35:01
and I was so inspired by that book, just to see what Lord Sugar's | 1:35:01 | 1:35:04
journey was, from nothing to what he managed to achieve. | 1:35:04 | 1:35:07
You know, I literally quit my job within, like, three weeks, | 1:35:07 | 1:35:11
took out a 15 grand personal loan, started a business, | 1:35:11 | 1:35:14
bought a van, branded it, and then just blew up from there. | 1:35:14 | 1:35:19
Let's move on to your business plan pitch. | 1:35:19 | 1:35:21
Because I think on day one, you were faffing about a bit, | 1:35:21 | 1:35:23
you were wasting time talking about the name, | 1:35:23 | 1:35:26
thinking of calling it things like... was it Enerplutuer? | 1:35:26 | 1:35:29
And it didn't seem to be going anywhere. | 1:35:30 | 1:35:32
But day two, you just hit the ground running. You used the focus group. | 1:35:32 | 1:35:35
The pitch was amazing. What are your memories of doing that? | 1:35:35 | 1:35:39
Yeah, we spent a lot of time thinking of a new name, | 1:35:39 | 1:35:41
and trying to brand it, | 1:35:41 | 1:35:43
and I probably did mess about a little bit rather than | 1:35:43 | 1:35:45
looking at how I was going to grow the business and present it, | 1:35:45 | 1:35:48
but I did want to get that right. | 1:35:48 | 1:35:50
You know, my mind was a little bit clouded, but now, looking back, | 1:35:50 | 1:35:52
I could probably have moved on a little bit quicker, | 1:35:52 | 1:35:55
but at the same time, you want to take the right logo | 1:35:55 | 1:35:57
and the right name when you're presenting something, you know? | 1:35:57 | 1:36:00
I mean, Lord Sugar, the original plan was for a franchise operation, | 1:36:00 | 1:36:03
wasn't it? And then Joseph adapted it, | 1:36:03 | 1:36:06
and he started to focus in on the smart technology. | 1:36:06 | 1:36:10
But is that what you're looking for, someone who can adapt and change? | 1:36:10 | 1:36:14
Yeah, the franchise thing was a little bit difficult, | 1:36:14 | 1:36:18
put it that way, and that he should concentrate on | 1:36:18 | 1:36:21
building the business up first of all, | 1:36:21 | 1:36:23
because you can't franchise something | 1:36:23 | 1:36:25
unless you've got some renowned, successful business out there | 1:36:25 | 1:36:29
for someone else to become a franchisee. | 1:36:29 | 1:36:32
I mean, Allyson, Joseph, as we saw, | 1:36:32 | 1:36:34
he used the focus group to mould his business, actually. | 1:36:34 | 1:36:38
How important are focus groups in the real world, | 1:36:38 | 1:36:41
and are they always right? | 1:36:41 | 1:36:42
So, they are very important. | 1:36:42 | 1:36:44
They are as right as you want them to be, | 1:36:44 | 1:36:47
and what I mean by that is, you've got to listen. | 1:36:47 | 1:36:50
And you have to listen through a certain lens | 1:36:50 | 1:36:52
or through a certain filter | 1:36:52 | 1:36:54
about whether you think that the people that have been | 1:36:54 | 1:36:57
recruited truly reflect the marketplace. | 1:36:57 | 1:36:59
But it's a listening exercise. | 1:36:59 | 1:37:01
I would never advise a company to just launch a product or service | 1:37:01 | 1:37:05
without surveying, is there demand, | 1:37:05 | 1:37:08
what does it look like, what shape does it take? | 1:37:08 | 1:37:11
It's critically important that you do that. | 1:37:11 | 1:37:13
Because, Grace, we saw Joseph here getting the focus group to | 1:37:13 | 1:37:18
film testimonials for Joseph. He was asking for business cards. | 1:37:18 | 1:37:22
In your world, you must see a lot of schmoozing and networking. | 1:37:22 | 1:37:25
-Has he got the moves? -He's pretty good, though, yeah. | 1:37:25 | 1:37:27
-He's very good at it. -I think he could teach media people something. | 1:37:27 | 1:37:30
-Yeah, you were very good. -Thank you. | 1:37:30 | 1:37:32
I think you could be a little bit heavy-handed, but it gets results. | 1:37:32 | 1:37:35
You got all those cards. I wouldn't have done that. | 1:37:35 | 1:37:38
-So, Lord Sugar, you gave Joseph the nickname Valentino. -Yeah. | 1:37:38 | 1:37:43
-Do you find him generally charming to deal with? -I don't know yet! | 1:37:43 | 1:37:47
I am, of course, as you know! | 1:37:48 | 1:37:50
LAUGHTER | 1:37:50 | 1:37:52
Well, charm is one thing. It helps if you've got the look as well. | 1:37:52 | 1:37:57
No disrespect, but did you smarten yourself up a little bit, | 1:37:57 | 1:38:00
or did you still look like a plumber with a moustache, like Super Mario? | 1:38:00 | 1:38:03
# Uh-huh, uh-huh | 1:38:05 | 1:38:07
# And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly... # | 1:38:07 | 1:38:09
Good morning, Joseph speaking. | 1:38:09 | 1:38:10
# For a white guy. # | 1:38:10 | 1:38:12
I would have assumed that you, Valentino, would have gone | 1:38:12 | 1:38:15
after the mirror, because you spend most of your time looking in there. | 1:38:15 | 1:38:19
# Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, cinco, seis. # | 1:38:22 | 1:38:25
-Does this look all right, or does it look stupid? -Looks stupid. | 1:38:26 | 1:38:29
Does it? SHE LAUGHS | 1:38:29 | 1:38:31
# Give it to me, baby... # | 1:38:31 | 1:38:33
AARGH! | 1:38:33 | 1:38:35
Don't grow it back. | 1:38:35 | 1:38:37
-Are you really Joseph? -Am I really Joseph? Yes. | 1:38:37 | 1:38:40
Oh! The new and improved Joseph. | 1:38:41 | 1:38:43
So, the moustache has gone. Has it gone for ever? | 1:38:45 | 1:38:47
-Are you going to grow it back? -It's gone for ever. | 1:38:47 | 1:38:49
-Gone for ever. -It's not coming back. | 1:38:49 | 1:38:51
Was that part of your game plan, to do it at the interview stage, to...? | 1:38:51 | 1:38:55
I think it was an iconic moment, you know? | 1:38:55 | 1:38:57
The moustache made me stand out, | 1:38:57 | 1:38:58
and when I shaved it off, it was for a reason. | 1:38:58 | 1:39:02
You know, I wanted to show them | 1:39:02 | 1:39:04
that I'd taken the feedback on board, | 1:39:04 | 1:39:06
and in certain situations, you can be judged by what you look like, | 1:39:06 | 1:39:09
and I did look a little bit second-hand car salesman-like, | 1:39:09 | 1:39:12
-and... -A little bit(!) | 1:39:12 | 1:39:14
LAUGHTER | 1:39:14 | 1:39:16
I think I look a hell of a lot smarter without it. | 1:39:16 | 1:39:18
You look like Walker off Dad's Army most of the time. | 1:39:18 | 1:39:20
Actually, let's put it to the audience. | 1:39:20 | 1:39:22
I'll tell you what - have you got your cards? | 1:39:22 | 1:39:25
If you think Joseph was right to shave off his moustache, | 1:39:25 | 1:39:28
hold up "Hired". | 1:39:28 | 1:39:29
If you think he was wrong, hold up "Fired". | 1:39:29 | 1:39:31
And, obviously, I think that's fairly conclusive | 1:39:34 | 1:39:37
that they think you looked ridiculous for the first 10 weeks. | 1:39:37 | 1:39:40
LAUGHTER | 1:39:40 | 1:39:41
So, Joseph, I understand you've got your family here tonight. | 1:39:41 | 1:39:44
-I've got my mum Jane and my sister Ciara. -Hello, Mum and sister. | 1:39:44 | 1:39:48
Yeah, so you must be very proud of Joseph, aren't you? | 1:39:48 | 1:39:51
-Extremely proud. I can't even begin to explain. -No, I'm sure. | 1:39:51 | 1:39:55
What was he like as a little boy? | 1:39:55 | 1:39:56
I reckon he was a cheeky little bugger, was he? | 1:39:56 | 1:39:59
-He was, very much so, yes. -What did he get up to? | 1:39:59 | 1:40:02
Full of life, always up to something. | 1:40:02 | 1:40:05
Bossing his friends around. | 1:40:05 | 1:40:07
Yes, just on the go from the minute he got up in the morning | 1:40:07 | 1:40:09
-till he went to bed. -And what does Joseph's sister have to say about it? | 1:40:09 | 1:40:13
Yeah, he was very, very cheeky. Very bossy. | 1:40:13 | 1:40:16
But we always knew he was going to do well. | 1:40:16 | 1:40:19
-He's always done really well. -Are you glad the moustache has gone? | 1:40:19 | 1:40:22
I am. | 1:40:22 | 1:40:23 | |
It's lovely to have you here. Let's hear it for Joseph's mum and sister. | 1:40:23 | 1:40:28
Now, Karren said at one point that you picked your team | 1:40:30 | 1:40:35
for the final task by who you liked | 1:40:35 | 1:40:38
rather than who was going to be most helpful. Do you agree with that? | 1:40:38 | 1:40:41
Um, I agree that I like them, they're a fantastic bunch. | 1:40:41 | 1:40:45
But I picked them because Gary is fantastic at pitching | 1:40:45 | 1:40:48
and he taught me a lot. | 1:40:48 | 1:40:50
Brett is in the plumbing and heating industry | 1:40:50 | 1:40:52
so it was great to have another expert on the team. | 1:40:52 | 1:40:54
Mergim and Elle, you're just fantastic. | 1:40:54 | 1:40:57
LAUGHTER | 1:40:57 | 1:40:58
-Well, I know... -Cheers, J! | 1:40:58 | 1:41:01
How are you all doing? Did you enjoy your...? | 1:41:01 | 1:41:03
We loved your acting debut. | 1:41:03 | 1:41:05
-If I cue you in, Mergim? -Yeah? | 1:41:05 | 1:41:07
Mergim, the fire isn't working. | 1:41:07 | 1:41:09
-WOODENLY: -Neither is the bath. | 1:41:09 | 1:41:11
LAUGHTER | 1:41:11 | 1:41:13
It's beautiful, it's right from there, isn't it, with you? | 1:41:13 | 1:41:18
Lord Sugar, I think we all enjoyed watching Mergim for various reasons. | 1:41:18 | 1:41:22
But you were very impressed by him, weren't you? | 1:41:22 | 1:41:25
Yeah, look, he's a great character, | 1:41:25 | 1:41:28
and what I like about this series | 1:41:28 | 1:41:31
is what I've already explained about Joseph and where he came from. | 1:41:31 | 1:41:34
Mergim also comes from a very difficult background. | 1:41:34 | 1:41:38
He was a refugee, came to this country a long time ago | 1:41:38 | 1:41:44
and I believe that as a young man ended up having to | 1:41:44 | 1:41:48
take over his family and look after all of his family and siblings. | 1:41:48 | 1:41:53
He had about five or six jobs at any one time. | 1:41:53 | 1:41:57
It's an amazing thing what he's done. | 1:41:57 | 1:42:00
He came on to the process, I think, a little bit early. OK? | 1:42:00 | 1:42:04
So, you know, apply again... | 1:42:04 | 1:42:07
..in 12 years. | 1:42:09 | 1:42:11
LAUGHTER | 1:42:11 | 1:42:13
-You won't be alive by then, probably. -I won't? | 1:42:13 | 1:42:16
AUDIENCE GROAN | 1:42:16 | 1:42:19
There's Mergim for you, you see. | 1:42:22 | 1:42:24
It was the infamous handyman task in week six, where Mergim showed us | 1:42:27 | 1:42:31
his deftness with a screwdriver. | 1:42:31 | 1:42:33
But you really came into your own in that task | 1:42:33 | 1:42:35
cos you were in your comfort zone, you knew what you were doing. | 1:42:35 | 1:42:38
Did you feel that was like a turning point for you? | 1:42:38 | 1:42:41
It was a massive turning point. | 1:42:41 | 1:42:42
I think after that, people started taking me seriously | 1:42:42 | 1:42:45
and I showed what I'm all about, that I know the business | 1:42:45 | 1:42:49
and I can take control of a situation. | 1:42:49 | 1:42:50
You know, it was great to get immunity from Lord Sugar. | 1:42:50 | 1:42:53
-That was an amazing feeling. -That was an amazing moment, wasn't it? | 1:42:53 | 1:42:57
Grace, what did you make of that task? | 1:42:57 | 1:42:59
That was one of my favourite parts of the whole series. | 1:42:59 | 1:43:02
Watching Mergim going into places and take the value off properties. | 1:43:02 | 1:43:05
It was quite comforting to know that somebody | 1:43:05 | 1:43:09
is as useless as I am at doing any kind of DIY, | 1:43:09 | 1:43:12
but I wouldn't try and set up a business doing it. | 1:43:12 | 1:43:15
-It was wonderful to watch. -It was. Romesh, what did you make of it? | 1:43:15 | 1:43:20
I thought, Joseph, you were exceptional in that task. | 1:43:20 | 1:43:24
Obviously you're doing a task that fits into what you know, | 1:43:24 | 1:43:29
but actually, the way you took that task by the scruff of the neck | 1:43:29 | 1:43:33
and basically led that team, I thought was impressive. | 1:43:33 | 1:43:36
I was guilty as a viewer of misjudging you | 1:43:36 | 1:43:39
because early on you seemed like a nice guy, | 1:43:39 | 1:43:41
but I didn't really see those strengths in you. | 1:43:41 | 1:43:44
Then suddenly, with that task, it was an eye-opener, | 1:43:44 | 1:43:47
-you were very impressive. It was amazing. -Thank you. | 1:43:47 | 1:43:49
Joseph, your performance in the handyman task | 1:43:49 | 1:43:52
obviously gave you confidence, not that you really needed it. | 1:43:52 | 1:43:55
Have a look at this. | 1:43:55 | 1:43:57
Joseph has a lot of confidence, you can even see it in his walk. | 1:43:58 | 1:44:02
# Walk this way, talk this way | 1:44:02 | 1:44:05
# Walk this way, talk this way | 1:44:05 | 1:44:09
# She told me to walk this way | 1:44:09 | 1:44:12
# Talk this way Just give me a kiss... # | 1:44:12 | 1:44:15
Is that something you've always done, walk like that? | 1:44:18 | 1:44:21
-It looks like you're in a Tarantino movie. -That's my Apprentice walk. | 1:44:21 | 1:44:24
It wasn't all plain sailing, though. | 1:44:24 | 1:44:25
One of my favourite moments was when you had to deliver the good news | 1:44:25 | 1:44:29
about the market research on the health snack task. | 1:44:29 | 1:44:31
Let's have a look at that. | 1:44:31 | 1:44:33
'What feedback have you had?' | 1:44:33 | 1:44:35
They weren't really too keen on the taste | 1:44:35 | 1:44:37
'and then the texture they didn't like at all.' | 1:44:37 | 1:44:40
'I want you to talk about feedback,' | 1:44:40 | 1:44:42
but I want you to talk about it | 1:44:42 | 1:44:44
in a very positive way. | 1:44:44 | 1:44:45
Yeah, I mean... | 1:44:45 | 1:44:47
'No negativity, stand by what we're saying, back it up 100%.' | 1:44:47 | 1:44:50
See you soon. | 1:44:50 | 1:44:51
Joseph, I know you've been out | 1:44:54 | 1:44:56
tasting it with the consumers this morning. | 1:44:56 | 1:44:58
We'd like you to share the feedback that we've got. | 1:44:58 | 1:45:01
Um... | 1:45:01 | 1:45:03 | |
Um... | 1:45:04 | 1:45:06 | |
So, basically, to start with, they thought the product was amazing. | 1:45:06 | 1:45:10
APPLAUSE | 1:45:12 | 1:45:15
I just... I love Karren's expression at that point. | 1:45:16 | 1:45:20
She's saying, "Amazing? As in amazing no-one threw up on the pavement?" | 1:45:20 | 1:45:24
No, you can't hide anything from Karren. | 1:45:24 | 1:45:27
But Gary dropped you right in it, there, didn't he, really? | 1:45:27 | 1:45:30
-Sorry, mate. -Lord Sugar, that's a good point. | 1:45:30 | 1:45:33
You've talked a lot about supporting the product, | 1:45:33 | 1:45:35
and Joseph certainly did do that. | 1:45:35 | 1:45:37
He did, he sailed a little bit close to the wind | 1:45:37 | 1:45:40
as far as the truth was concerned. | 1:45:40 | 1:45:43
But to give him credit, you saw him hesitate a couple of times, | 1:45:43 | 1:45:46
which showed his honesty, really, | 1:45:46 | 1:45:48
as if to say, "Oh, my God, I've got to lie here." | 1:45:48 | 1:45:51
But the thing is, you've got to find some positive things to say. | 1:45:51 | 1:45:54
I think earlier in the process, we saw some candidates who, | 1:45:54 | 1:45:57
halfway through, kind of gave up on the product. | 1:45:57 | 1:46:01
You can't afford to give up on your product. | 1:46:01 | 1:46:03
I mean, that's what you've got, that's what you've got to sell, | 1:46:03 | 1:46:06
that's what you decided to do, get on with it. | 1:46:06 | 1:46:09
You've got to get on with it. It's not a good thing | 1:46:09 | 1:46:12
if anybody gives up on what their product is | 1:46:12 | 1:46:15
and what their idea is. | 1:46:15 | 1:46:17
So we had a bit of that this year. I won't mention any names. | 1:46:17 | 1:46:21
-It was Natalie, wasn't it? -Yeah, that's right. | 1:46:21 | 1:46:25
Well, I didn't mention the name. | 1:46:25 | 1:46:27
-But you have to back your product. -OK. | 1:46:27 | 1:46:30
So, in the last instalment, | 1:46:30 | 1:46:31
we saw Romesh being fired in the boardroom. | 1:46:31 | 1:46:34
What did you get up to next, Romesh? | 1:46:34 | 1:46:36
Well, I had been fired, unjustly. | 1:46:36 | 1:46:39
And so I then had to do the walk of shame and the cab ride home. | 1:46:39 | 1:46:42
Let's have a look at that then. | 1:46:42 | 1:46:44
-Previously on The Apprentice... -You're fired. | 1:46:44 | 1:46:47
Where's the taxi? | 1:46:55 | 1:46:57
Am I supposed to book the taxi myself? | 1:46:58 | 1:47:01
Hello, this is Romesh, formerly known as Team Romesh. | 1:47:01 | 1:47:04
Could I have a taxi from Lord Sugar's office, please? | 1:47:04 | 1:47:08
What took you so long? Can you actually do it properly? | 1:47:12 | 1:47:15
Come out and reverse back in? | 1:47:15 | 1:47:17
Lord Sugar was wrong to fire me today. | 1:47:36 | 1:47:38
He knows it, I know it, everybody knows it. | 1:47:38 | 1:47:42
I did learn one thing from this process. Claude's e-mail address. | 1:47:44 | 1:47:47
He didn't even give it to me, I just saw it on a piece of documentation. | 1:47:47 | 1:47:52
That's networking. | 1:47:52 | 1:47:53
APPLAUSE | 1:47:53 | 1:47:56
Yes, in case you're wondering, that's [email protected]. | 1:47:59 | 1:48:03
So, Lord Sugar, if Romesh applies for the next series, | 1:48:03 | 1:48:05
can you see him as a potential business partner? | 1:48:05 | 1:48:08
Look, he's got scope, maybe. | 1:48:08 | 1:48:10
Maybe. Never say never. | 1:48:10 | 1:48:13
In his case, I would. | 1:48:13 | 1:48:15
Well, it's time for another award. | 1:48:15 | 1:48:17
Let's have a look at who's in the running. | 1:48:17 | 1:48:19
And the nominations are... | 1:48:26 | 1:48:28
..Dan - for his bold team name suggestion. | 1:48:29 | 1:48:32
Can I sort of throw my thought into the thought pond | 1:48:32 | 1:48:36
and we call ourselves the Sugarbabes? | 1:48:36 | 1:48:39
The Sugarbabes. | 1:48:39 | 1:48:41
David - for rewriting the fashion rule book. | 1:48:42 | 1:48:45
You can wear it with almost anything. | 1:48:45 | 1:48:48
You're wearing it with jeans, I'm wearing it with a bit of a suit. | 1:48:48 | 1:48:51
Brett - for claiming the sky and a brick wall | 1:48:51 | 1:48:54
are pretty much exactly the same. | 1:48:54 | 1:48:56
You've literally got all of this to look out at. | 1:48:56 | 1:48:59
I think you're showing them the wrong spot. | 1:48:59 | 1:49:01
It's pretty much exactly the same. | 1:49:01 | 1:49:04
And Mergim - for blaming the wall for his failure to put up a shelf. | 1:49:06 | 1:49:10
I did say it was probably her wall as well, Lord Sugar. | 1:49:10 | 1:49:13
Something wrong with her wall? | 1:49:13 | 1:49:15
Yeah, it's a good thing I spotted the problem now. | 1:49:15 | 1:49:18
APPLAUSE | 1:49:18 | 1:49:20
And Grace is going to tell us who the winner is. | 1:49:22 | 1:49:25
And the winner is... | 1:49:25 | 1:49:28
Brett. | 1:49:28 | 1:49:29
-Here you go, Brett. -Thanks, mate. -Congratulations. How do you feel? | 1:49:34 | 1:49:37
It just goes to prove that if you don't get your ass in your hands | 1:49:37 | 1:49:40
and you keep to the specification, | 1:49:40 | 1:49:43
you can sometimes still get it wrong. | 1:49:43 | 1:49:45
-So thank you ever so much. -What a worthy champion. | 1:49:45 | 1:49:48
-Brett, that was great. -Let's hear it for Brett. | 1:49:48 | 1:49:51
Joseph is no longer just a candidate, he's now the winning candidate | 1:49:53 | 1:49:57
and we've got some previous winners in the audience tonight. | 1:49:57 | 1:50:00
Last year's winner is here. | 1:50:00 | 1:50:02
Mark Wright, ladies and gentlemen, here he is. | 1:50:02 | 1:50:04
So...Mark, you are now a year into your partnership. | 1:50:04 | 1:50:10
What's it like working with Lord Sugar? | 1:50:10 | 1:50:13
You were saying earlier he's a right pain. | 1:50:13 | 1:50:15
Yeah, I also said not to tell him that. So, thanks. | 1:50:15 | 1:50:18
I think...I remember sitting in Joseph's position last year | 1:50:18 | 1:50:21
and you're not sure what's about to happen | 1:50:21 | 1:50:23
and I think everyone thinks that at home. | 1:50:23 | 1:50:25
But it's the most life-changing thing. | 1:50:25 | 1:50:26
Lord Sugar opens a bank account, | 1:50:26 | 1:50:29
literally £250,000 goes into that account. | 1:50:29 | 1:50:32
He puts a very good team around you, as well as himself, | 1:50:32 | 1:50:34
and you get a lot of support from the other apprentices as well. | 1:50:34 | 1:50:37
It's literally a life-changing thing, | 1:50:37 | 1:50:39
and you're about to experience one of the best years you'll ever have. | 1:50:39 | 1:50:42
That's amazing to hear, isn't it? And he obviously is... | 1:50:42 | 1:50:46
APPLAUSE | 1:50:46 | 1:50:48
All right, any advice for Joseph on the dos and don'ts | 1:50:48 | 1:50:51
-of working with Lord Sugar? -It's really just to listen. | 1:50:51 | 1:50:54
I think you've got such a good team around you and Lord Sugar | 1:50:54 | 1:50:57
makes himself really available over the next couple of months. | 1:50:57 | 1:51:00
And we're all here to help you as well. | 1:51:00 | 1:51:02
So just ask for advice, listen to what you're told, | 1:51:02 | 1:51:04
get your head down, work hard and you'll do exceptionally well. | 1:51:04 | 1:51:07
Mark, how is your business doing? | 1:51:07 | 1:51:09
Yes, my business has just flown. | 1:51:09 | 1:51:12
Climb Online is 11 months old this month. | 1:51:12 | 1:51:14
We've already turned over in excess of £1.5 million. | 1:51:14 | 1:51:18
We've got 20 staff, two offices, | 1:51:18 | 1:51:20
and we provide search engine marketing for over 200 | 1:51:20 | 1:51:23
of the biggest companies in the country, so we've done really well. | 1:51:23 | 1:51:27
Congratulations, well done. | 1:51:27 | 1:51:29
We've also got previous winners Tom Pellereau, Dr Leah Totton | 1:51:32 | 1:51:37
and Ricky Martin are here. What do you think of Joseph's idea? | 1:51:37 | 1:51:41
Joseph, I think you are great | 1:51:41 | 1:51:43
and I am opening a new clinic at the minute | 1:51:43 | 1:51:45
and if you could do my plumbing, that would be really great! | 1:51:45 | 1:51:49
Well, thank you to all our previous winners there. | 1:51:49 | 1:51:52
So, Lord Sugar, it's been an incredibly eventful series. | 1:51:56 | 1:51:59
We've had a triple firing, we've had a resignation, | 1:51:59 | 1:52:01
lots of very challenging tasks. What was your favourite task? | 1:52:01 | 1:52:05
The advertising task is always one of my favourites | 1:52:05 | 1:52:08
because I'm a marketing man myself. | 1:52:08 | 1:52:10
And I have to say, and I will repeat, that this particular year's | 1:52:10 | 1:52:14
advertising task was the best one that we've ever had. | 1:52:14 | 1:52:18
I mean, I'm talking about the winning team, of course. | 1:52:18 | 1:52:21
-Yeah. -This is the Western shampoo. | 1:52:21 | 1:52:24
Yeah, this is the one that Richard took credit for. | 1:52:24 | 1:52:27
LAUGHTER | 1:52:27 | 1:52:29
-Which is surprising, of course. -David is there as well. | 1:52:29 | 1:52:32
David, what do you think about that? | 1:52:32 | 1:52:34
I personally think that Richard was great at delegating, | 1:52:34 | 1:52:37
but when it came to the branding and things like that, we work together | 1:52:37 | 1:52:41
as a team and I'd like to take credit for the name and the logo. | 1:52:41 | 1:52:44
So you're taking credit? | 1:52:44 | 1:52:45
Lord Sugar, I'm sure you've enjoyed watching the candidates. | 1:52:45 | 1:52:49
We've certainly enjoyed watching you on this series, as always. | 1:52:49 | 1:52:52
Let's have a look at your highlights. | 1:52:52 | 1:52:54
Lord Sugar. | 1:52:59 | 1:53:00
Get your hands out of your pockets. | 1:53:02 | 1:53:04
This is an incredible opportunity. | 1:53:04 | 1:53:07
Any business partner of mine | 1:53:07 | 1:53:09
needs to know that making money involves hard work. | 1:53:09 | 1:53:12
-However, he did stipulate... -I'm going to fall asleep in a minute. Get to the point. | 1:53:12 | 1:53:16
I want you to get a piece of that action, | 1:53:16 | 1:53:18
so I'm sending you to the London Pet Show. | 1:53:18 | 1:53:21
You couldn't sell a bone to Battersea Dogs Home | 1:53:21 | 1:53:23
at the moment, from what I've heard. | 1:53:23 | 1:53:25
The main character is a monster who lives a life of isolation | 1:53:25 | 1:53:28
until society learns to live with it. | 1:53:28 | 1:53:31
It sounds like the biography of Piers Morgan. | 1:53:31 | 1:53:34
For your next task, I'd like you to create your own healthy snacks. | 1:53:36 | 1:53:41
You went to retailers with this? Does it come with face wipes? | 1:53:41 | 1:53:45
You've got more cheek than Kim Kardashian, I think. | 1:53:45 | 1:53:48
Thanks a lot. Off you go. | 1:53:51 | 1:53:53
Lord Sugar, did you ever get that oil off your hands? | 1:53:57 | 1:54:00
Oh, it was difficult! | 1:54:00 | 1:54:02
I like Claude's face at that time because I said to him, | 1:54:02 | 1:54:06
"Let's open these crisps." | 1:54:06 | 1:54:09
And he said, "Are you sure?" | 1:54:09 | 1:54:11
I said, "Yeah, why not?" And he brought out this roll of... | 1:54:11 | 1:54:16
And said you need to have this around you. | 1:54:16 | 1:54:18
Well, I had to degrease afterwards. | 1:54:18 | 1:54:22
It was an all-round disastrous task, really, wasn't it? | 1:54:22 | 1:54:25
It weren't too good. | 1:54:25 | 1:54:27
I'm not too sure of The Apprentice historians out there | 1:54:27 | 1:54:31
as to whether we've ever had a situation | 1:54:31 | 1:54:36
where both teams got no orders. | 1:54:36 | 1:54:38
So I had a dilemma, really. I think it's a first, really. | 1:54:38 | 1:54:42
Well, it's time for our final Apprentice 2015 award. | 1:54:42 | 1:54:46
And this is a very special one. | 1:54:46 | 1:54:48
And the nominations are... | 1:54:55 | 1:54:57
Vana - for explaining the thinking behind their Cactus shampoo bottle. | 1:54:57 | 1:55:02
The green bottle was chosen because the cactus is green. | 1:55:02 | 1:55:07
Charleine - for describing the weight of the heavy candles. | 1:55:09 | 1:55:14
The heavy candles are heavy. | 1:55:14 | 1:55:16
Natalie - for unlocking the mystery of the name Desert Secret. | 1:55:18 | 1:55:22
We've got a secret to show to you all today. | 1:55:22 | 1:55:25
A secret from the desert. | 1:55:25 | 1:55:27
Desert Secret. | 1:55:27 | 1:55:30
And Elle - for telling us what's wrong with that fish. | 1:55:31 | 1:55:35
That fish doesn't have a head. | 1:55:35 | 1:55:37
APPLAUSE | 1:55:37 | 1:55:39
And, Lord Sugar, would you please announce the winner? | 1:55:42 | 1:55:46
Well, the winner is Charleine. | 1:55:48 | 1:55:51
-Oh, thanks, Richard. I've been waiting for this. -It's my pleasure. | 1:55:58 | 1:56:01
Oh, yeah! | 1:56:01 | 1:56:02
Charleine, tell me, how does it feel to win this prestigious award? | 1:56:02 | 1:56:06
I'm really happy to win the award for the heavy candles are heavy. | 1:56:06 | 1:56:10
Do you think you might take one of those candles | 1:56:10 | 1:56:12
for a romantic dinner with Richard in the future? | 1:56:12 | 1:56:14
-Yeah, I think me and Richard have started... -Perfect match. | 1:56:14 | 1:56:17
Yeah, we've started gelling lately, haven't we? We have. | 1:56:17 | 1:56:22
It's a scandal here, Jack. | 1:56:22 | 1:56:24
Back to you in the studio. | 1:56:24 | 1:56:26
Let's give it up for Charleine anyway. Thank you very much. | 1:56:26 | 1:56:30
Well, Joseph, we've loved watching you on The Apprentice. | 1:56:35 | 1:56:38
You've now got an investment of £250,000, | 1:56:38 | 1:56:41
but nobody leaves You're Hired empty-handed. | 1:56:41 | 1:56:43
You're a very smart looking fellow, but just in case you want to | 1:56:43 | 1:56:46
change your look at any time, we've got you this, which is... | 1:56:46 | 1:56:50
It's a "show before you grow" moustache gallery. | 1:56:50 | 1:56:54
-Thank you very much. -So you can just experiment. | 1:56:54 | 1:56:56
You don't need to grow it and look stupid for three weeks. | 1:56:56 | 1:57:00
How about that? That's for you there. | 1:57:00 | 1:57:03
That's amazing, thank you very much. | 1:57:03 | 1:57:05
APPLAUSE | 1:57:05 | 1:57:08
Huge congratulations. Let's look at your highlights. | 1:57:10 | 1:57:14
I want the cars, I want the girls, but most of all, I want the power. | 1:57:16 | 1:57:20
He does have his own opinions and he isn't scared to share them. | 1:57:22 | 1:57:26
And I quite like that in someone. | 1:57:26 | 1:57:28
No messing about, no stopping, no toilet breaks, literally hitting it. | 1:57:28 | 1:57:31
Solid, yeah? | 1:57:31 | 1:57:33
You say you are the master of persuasion with the women. | 1:57:33 | 1:57:36
Oh! | 1:57:36 | 1:57:38 | |
You've got a beautiful smile. Let's go at 180. | 1:57:39 | 1:57:42
Maybe I should change your name to Valentino. | 1:57:42 | 1:57:44
I'm full of admiration for what he's done in his life | 1:57:44 | 1:57:47
and throughout this process, I can see him going a long way. | 1:57:47 | 1:57:50
Do you want to come over quickly before we shut? | 1:57:50 | 1:57:52
We're about to put the lid down. | 1:57:52 | 1:57:54
Joseph, you are staying today, whatever happens. | 1:57:54 | 1:57:57
-Well done, Joseph. -Good job. | 1:57:57 | 1:57:59
Congratulations, mate. | 1:57:59 | 1:58:01
Thank you very much. | 1:58:01 | 1:58:02
I feel absolutely amazing and I can't wipe the smile off my face. | 1:58:02 | 1:58:06
Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of The Apprentice 2015, Joseph Valente. | 1:58:06 | 1:58:12
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 1:58:12 | 1:58:15
So, that's it for this year's Apprentice. | 1:58:19 | 1:58:22
Lord Sugar will be looking for another business partner next year, | 1:58:22 | 1:58:25
so if you think that could be you, go to bbc.co.uk/apprentice | 1:58:25 | 1:58:29
to find out how to apply for the next series. | 1:58:29 | 1:58:31
Thank you to my guests - Lord Sugar, Allyson Stewart-Allen, Grace Dent, | 1:58:31 | 1:58:35
and it's nearly Christmas so I'll thank him as well, Romesh Ranganathan. | 1:58:35 | 1:58:38
Congratulations to all of this year's candidates, to Vana, | 1:58:38 | 1:58:41
and, of course, our winner | 1:58:41 | 1:58:42
and Lord Sugar's new business partner, Joseph Valente. | 1:58:42 | 1:58:45
That's it from all of us. | 1:58:45 | 1:58:46
Have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year. Goodnight. | 1:58:46 | 1:58:50 |
