Millions of you watched Casualty on Saturday, | :00:00. | :00:10.
where there was a dramatic hostage situation | :00:11. | :00:13.
It's one of Britains best shows and today we're joined | :00:14. | :00:27.
by one of its stars, Hannah Spearritt. | :00:28. | :00:30.
Coming up tonight, after ten became eight on Saturday, | :00:31. | :00:34.
Louise Hazel takes a look backstage at The Voice and sees | :00:35. | :00:37.
what chaos lies behind that cool facade. | :00:38. | :00:40.
We've got a special musical tribute to the TV trailblazer | :00:41. | :00:46.
and steeplejack extraordinaire Fred Dibnah. | :00:47. | :00:48.
Toby Earle is back to reveal some TV tittle tattle | :00:49. | :00:50.
And of course we're talking Casualty with newcomer Hannah Spearritt. | :00:51. | :00:56.
But first up, we're celebrating the greatest kids show ever made. | :00:57. | :00:59.
It's been on our screens for over half a century, | :01:00. | :01:11.
is the 36th presenter to steer the good ship BP. | :01:12. | :01:15.
She recently attempted a Sport Relief challenge to run | :01:16. | :01:18.
across the Irish Sea in an inflatable ball. | :01:19. | :01:27.
As you do! I will need to train harder than I have ever trained | :01:28. | :01:37.
before. Working with an a leaked team of specialists. Can I conquer | :01:38. | :01:43.
the sea and find a way to walk on water? Can I become the wave runner? | :01:44. | :01:53.
Please welcome the wave runner herself, Lindsey Russell! We just | :01:54. | :02:00.
said, watching that, I feel sick looking at that! It looks really | :02:01. | :02:05.
tough. It was really, really hard. Certainly one of Blue Peter's | :02:06. | :02:09.
hardest challenges ever. I was in that ball for a long time. Nine | :02:10. | :02:15.
hours, in the end. How far did you manage to cover in that time? I did | :02:16. | :02:22.
17 nautical miles. The aim was 21, but as time went on during the | :02:23. | :02:26.
challenge, the first six hours went really well, then the winter set in, | :02:27. | :02:31.
the tides changed and sadly I could see that I was getting further and | :02:32. | :02:35.
further away. Did they get you out or did they turn you back with a | :02:36. | :02:41.
barge? No, they did, they put me on a boat and I had a little hot | :02:42. | :02:46.
chocolate, and a little cry. Getting back was one of the nicest moments | :02:47. | :02:50.
of my life, getting into Portpatrick. It was lined with | :02:51. | :02:54.
children with Blue Peter banners cheering me on. It was not your | :02:55. | :03:00.
first challenge. Although getting down to the studio today has been a | :03:01. | :03:05.
bit of a challenge, how many hours? I set off at ten o'clock this | :03:06. | :03:10.
morning. You should have come in the ball! What else have you done? I did | :03:11. | :03:15.
amounted marathon, in the Swiss Alps. Climbing up and skiing down? | :03:16. | :03:22.
Yes, climbing up on skis with these velvet things under them, to make | :03:23. | :03:26.
them stick to the snow. That was 18.5 hours. And the marathon as | :03:27. | :03:33.
well? Yes, the London Marathon, that was quite nice. Just four hours! You | :03:34. | :03:39.
say that but you did it in three hours and something, didn't you? | :03:40. | :03:44.
That is pretty impressive. Blue Peter has got to be one of the | :03:45. | :03:49.
toughest gigs in telly. Can you ever say no to things, when they say | :03:50. | :03:52.
something in a meeting, can you say no? You could, but I think part of | :03:53. | :03:59.
being a Blue Peter presenter is, you do it all for the badge and because | :04:00. | :04:03.
you love adventure and trying things. That is the brilliant thing | :04:04. | :04:07.
about the show. And especially that Sport Relief Challenge. I did not | :04:08. | :04:11.
make it to the finish line but it is not really about that. It is about | :04:12. | :04:16.
having a go and doing something crazy and giving it everything. We | :04:17. | :04:19.
have got a clip of the moment you found out that you were going to be | :04:20. | :04:24.
the next Blue Peter presenter. The next Blue Peter presenter, as chose | :04:25. | :04:31.
by you, the CBBC viewers, is... Lindsay! This is your moment, you | :04:32. | :04:39.
are the new Blue Peter presenter, how do you feel? I feel amazing! | :04:40. | :04:48.
Thank you for voting meet, so much! Well done! It is so nice that the | :04:49. | :04:55.
kids voted for you because they are quite fussy customers, kids. They | :04:56. | :04:59.
are. It is a lovely way to get the job, actually. It was | :05:00. | :05:03.
nerve-wracking, but to be voted in by the kids, made the first live | :05:04. | :05:07.
show a bit easier because I thought, they want me here. | :05:08. | :05:14.
You're part of a great Blue Peter line-up with Barney | :05:15. | :05:17.
and Radzi, but a bit like Doctor Who, everyone's | :05:18. | :05:19.
It's Mark Curry, Yvette Fielding and Caron Keating. | :05:20. | :05:27.
Yvette Fielding was the youngest ever Blue Peter presenter - | :05:28. | :05:30.
17 when she auditioned as well. She was a baby. And this was my | :05:31. | :05:43.
favourite clip. It was pancake - gate! Here she is making a bit of a | :05:44. | :05:53.
hash of it! Oh, dear! But is that, then. But is tossing it. OK, I have | :05:54. | :06:02.
turned it over. Oh, dear Amy! Don't do what I have done, I am not a very | :06:03. | :06:06.
good cook at all. Do they teach you just to smile whatever it happens? | :06:07. | :06:12.
Yes, just style it out, which is exactly what she did, with that top. | :06:13. | :06:15.
And apparently Mark Curry refused to look after dog Goldie, | :06:16. | :06:17.
so Yvette had to look after him instead. | :06:18. | :06:25.
Lindsey, how do you get on with the current Blue | :06:26. | :06:37.
Yes, I am quite close to Shelley, the daughters. Is that just any | :06:38. | :06:45.
daughters or can you tell it is Shelley? That is 100% Shelley. | :06:46. | :06:50.
Going back a bit further, there was the 1983 line-up | :06:51. | :06:52.
of Peter Duncan, Simon Groom and Janet Ellis. | :06:53. | :06:55.
During her time on the show, Janet Ellis broke the women's | :06:56. | :06:57.
European free fall record when she sky dived with the RAF, | :06:58. | :07:00.
even after she broke her pelvis in training. | :07:01. | :07:02.
The show received loads of complaints about Peter Duncan | :07:03. | :07:04.
looking scruffy, so they launched a "design Peter an outfit" | :07:05. | :07:09.
competition - and the winning design was his trademark green | :07:10. | :07:12.
Now we've talked challenges, we've talked animals, | :07:13. | :07:28.
but another huge part of Blue Peter are the makes. | :07:29. | :07:31.
Well, this one took me eight minutes, it was a Shaun The Sheep | :07:32. | :07:40.
farmyard, complete with trees, fences, friends galore. | :07:41. | :07:41.
There have been some brilliant makes on the show and some | :07:42. | :07:44.
A make-up holder made from a cutlery tray. | :07:45. | :07:56.
A cat bed made from a washing up bowl. | :07:57. | :08:00.
That looks really comfy! Bit of a shocker, this one. Do your member | :08:01. | :08:06.
this, 2009? April Fools. A fake poo made from a plastic | :08:07. | :08:08.
bottle, and double-sided tape. And if yours looks like that, take | :08:09. | :08:16.
yourself to casualty. Remember it's the greatest kids | :08:17. | :08:20.
show on Earth, and it's That's Blue Peter, | :08:21. | :08:22.
Thursdays on CBBC at 5pm. A huge thank you to the lovely | :08:23. | :08:27.
Lindsey. Now if someone wanted to go | :08:28. | :08:32.
backstage at this show, The things that go on behind those | :08:33. | :08:34.
cameras are outrageous. The Voice however, | :08:35. | :08:37.
is a bit more relaxed. Louise Hazel managed to go backstage | :08:38. | :08:39.
at the first live show this weekend, We are here for the live shows of | :08:40. | :09:02.
The Voice. It is access all areas! I was looking forward to hitting the | :09:03. | :09:05.
button is, but obviously there are no buttons. The blind auditions have | :09:06. | :09:10.
gone now. But it. Reckon they will notice if I just stand in? Oh, there | :09:11. | :09:19.
is upholders! These stairs are totally transparent. I don't know | :09:20. | :09:24.
how anyone has not taken a tumble yet. I have managed to get into the | :09:25. | :09:28.
directors chair. Use of the central nervous system of The Voice. 14 | :09:29. | :09:35.
studio cameras going on here. Run titles! I have always wanted to say | :09:36. | :09:39.
that! They are bringing the audience in now. Not long until the live | :09:40. | :09:46.
show. Do you know already who you will give that fast pass to? I don't | :09:47. | :09:52.
know yet, I will make my decision in the moment, but I feel like it is a | :09:53. | :09:56.
50-50 chance for me this week. It is almost even harder. What about you, | :09:57. | :10:05.
Will? I took the fast pass when I came from the airport. I do not know | :10:06. | :10:09.
yet. So many different varieties of talent out there. In my team, we are | :10:10. | :10:16.
seeing a lot of the same. Dope, dope, dope. Just want to put that | :10:17. | :10:20.
out there. First year on the show, how are you finding it? Everyone has | :10:21. | :10:29.
been really nice, and Will particularly. What about the nerves? | :10:30. | :10:36.
I have told my team, as soon as you start getting rid of the nerves, you | :10:37. | :10:39.
are dead. So just embrace the nerves. Use it for the good. Big day | :10:40. | :10:45.
today. First of the live shows. Feeling a little bit nervous. I feel | :10:46. | :10:53.
quite happy, quite excited. What has it been like working with Will? He | :10:54. | :10:59.
is so amazing and it is such a privilege to be able to work with | :11:00. | :11:09.
him. Who chose the song, you or George? George. It is possibly | :11:10. | :11:14.
something which I would not have chose an, but I will see if I can do | :11:15. | :11:18.
it. It is a challenge for me and I think I needed a challenge. What | :11:19. | :11:24.
does it mean to you guys? This is the only chance we get so it is | :11:25. | :11:34.
something to fight for. So, Jordan, are you pleased to make it this far? | :11:35. | :11:39.
I did not even get a turn at the blinds and now I am here at the | :11:40. | :11:45.
lives. It is a bit much to take in. The person that I am going to put | :11:46. | :11:50.
through as my fast pass is Jordan. My fast pass goes to Kevin. I was | :11:51. | :11:56.
nervous, trying to think of my words and stuff. But I really enjoyed it. | :11:57. | :12:02.
You did a good job. Everything on the stage. You have to be all into | :12:03. | :12:12.
it and show everyone. Tonight I am going to be a gentleman. The emotion | :12:13. | :12:19.
was there. . Do you think you have done enough? I have no idea. It is | :12:20. | :12:27.
really hard, just because you do not really know what the public are | :12:28. | :12:31.
going to do. I think they genuinely do base it on the performance. Let's | :12:32. | :12:39.
hear it one more time for the incredible Harry. And of course, | :12:40. | :12:46.
Lauren! What a day. I am kind of exhausted. That was amazing. I am | :12:47. | :12:52.
off to get a cream tea. That sounds good! | :12:53. | :12:53.
Now, we've had so much chocolate over the weekend, | :12:54. | :12:55.
that the Grapevine is a detox area today. | :12:56. | :12:57.
I've got my bees pollen and bladderwhack smoothie. | :12:58. | :13:08.
And I have got my shake! Is it disgusting? Yes, don't go there. | :13:09. | :13:13.
But more importantly, we're joined once again | :13:14. | :13:14.
Don't strength out, please! You have been hunting for showbiz and TV news | :13:15. | :13:28.
gossip? I have and I think I have come up trumps. A new bridal show | :13:29. | :13:36.
has been unveiled, if you will. Say yes, to the dress. Only what is to | :13:37. | :13:42.
do? All you have to do is go in the shop - that one looks nice. Done! | :13:43. | :13:48.
But apparently not. It is always the bit in Don't Tell The Bride where | :13:49. | :13:53.
the blokes fall on their face. Huge in America, 200 episodes. It is | :13:54. | :13:59.
going to be filmed over here. And David Emmanuelle is involved. Yes, | :14:00. | :14:03.
the designer of Princess Diana's wedding dress. Have we got some soap | :14:04. | :14:15.
news? Yes, we have. Denise Welsh, formerly of loose women, will be | :14:16. | :14:22.
joining as one of the slaters. Alison Slater, the mother. She looks | :14:23. | :14:33.
not 1 million miles from Old Mo there. She will love you for that! I | :14:34. | :14:39.
think once you get the Slater Black Barnet. That should be a painted | :14:40. | :14:43.
name, by the way! She will be appearing in EastEnders in the not | :14:44. | :14:47.
too distant future. Do you remember John McArdle? Billy Corkhill, he | :14:48. | :14:54.
will be joining Emmerdale. He will be playing a plumber. He might be | :14:55. | :15:00.
her father. Will being a plumber drive her around for Bend? He does | :15:01. | :15:08.
look like a young father Christmas. And you have got everyone's answer | :15:09. | :15:11.
to Saturday night vision? I have. You think of the great double acts | :15:12. | :15:16.
over the years. Alan Carr and Noel Edmonds! It is a thing, apparently! | :15:17. | :15:23.
I don't know if people have had too much sugar this week. For they are | :15:24. | :15:28.
teaming up apparently, according to reports, for a Saturday night show. | :15:29. | :15:34.
It is being reported that they are going to make an entertainment show | :15:35. | :15:39.
together. Do they know each other, then? They have met, but they are | :15:40. | :15:44.
not exactly best buddies, I don't believe. | :15:45. | :15:54.
Jenna Colburn, we know she likes to travel through time, but for this | :15:55. | :16:06.
new drama, Victoria, she is playing Victoria. It looks amazing. It looks | :16:07. | :16:10.
great. 64 years to cover in this story. There were so many fashion | :16:11. | :16:16.
nation attempts, and of course she invented a sponge cake. A life well | :16:17. | :16:22.
lived. And to link it back to the beginning, she popularised the white | :16:23. | :16:25.
wedding dress. This is what I love about you, we have come full circle. | :16:26. | :16:33.
We say thank you very much to Toby. A lead and everyone here, | :16:34. | :16:38.
celebration times, it is our 21st episode today! 21 today! This is a | :16:39. | :16:48.
bit immersing, because guess what? We have got nothing on Casualty, 30 | :16:49. | :16:56.
years this year. Joining us is Hannah Spirit. Here she is in her | :16:57. | :17:01.
first episode. What am I supposed to do? I can't go home without the | :17:02. | :17:07.
money. I bought into it, I thought for a couple of seconds I cared | :17:08. | :17:12.
about Noll. I do, but that doesn't get the debt collectors off my | :17:13. | :17:18.
doorstep. You're not going to have to do worry about it in prison. That | :17:19. | :17:22.
is not going to happen, I have seen your friends, the ones who think you | :17:23. | :17:26.
are a hero. It would be a shame if they found out about the truth. | :17:27. | :17:34.
Please welcome Hannah Spirit. That face you do, it is fantastic. Well | :17:35. | :17:41.
done, joining Casualties. It has been great fun, loved it. 30 years, | :17:42. | :17:47.
an institution on the telly. On your first day where you pretty nervous | :17:48. | :17:53.
about it? Yes, I was pretty nervous, there is or is that feeling you are | :17:54. | :17:59.
the new girl, but then quickly you get settled. Everyone is so lovely. | :18:00. | :18:09.
Do you do a lot of scenes with that guy? Yes, it was my surrogate daddy. | :18:10. | :18:19.
Your character, she is a bit troublesome, Mercedes. A bit of a | :18:20. | :18:26.
troublemaker. She has got a child and that is her main want to gain | :18:27. | :18:32.
money but at the end of the day she is a drug addict as well. Also she | :18:33. | :18:37.
has had a bad experience with her ex recently. She is a manipulator. She | :18:38. | :18:48.
comes into the programme marking the nicest guy possible, which is in | :18:49. | :18:54.
all. She then ends up manipulating Mac to give her money. Quite a meaty | :18:55. | :19:02.
character. How does it work on set at casualties, are their ambulances | :19:03. | :19:07.
whizzing around? Can you jazz around on the trolleys? Yes, there are lots | :19:08. | :19:13.
of Ben Stow was around on. It is quite nice when you get those scenes | :19:14. | :19:20.
-- a lot of heads. Then you can just kind of -- a lot of beds. It is film | :19:21. | :19:30.
extorted Dr Who in Cardiff? Yes. Do you all eat together in the canteen? | :19:31. | :19:35.
Yes, we all have lunch at different times. Some aliens queueing up for | :19:36. | :19:45.
the chicken hotpot? It is a bit like that, and there are three sets going | :19:46. | :19:48.
at the same time. Lots of episodes the same time. Before hitting | :19:49. | :19:53.
Hollywood, lots of movie stars popped up at Holby General. In 1993, | :19:54. | :19:59.
an 18-year-old Kate Winslet appeared in the drama as teenager, Suzanne. | :20:00. | :20:07.
Did you know that? No, I didn't. Check this one out, not someone who | :20:08. | :20:12.
appeared in just one episode but three between 1994 and 1996, a | :20:13. | :20:17.
teenage Orlando Bloom. Look at how young he is! Must have had some | :20:18. | :20:23.
trouble with his elf, if he was at the hospital! From health to Hobbit, | :20:24. | :20:35.
1998, a very freshfaced Martin Freeman. After last night's finale, | :20:36. | :20:42.
Tom Hiddleston appeared in 2007 as a window cleaner who accidentally | :20:43. | :20:45.
knocks a woman off a balcony. He doesn't look too upset about it. You | :20:46. | :20:51.
have got to be clumsy. I liked the way we did his audition tape for | :20:52. | :20:55.
bond and now we have lost the gig by showing him in that hat. You sort of | :20:56. | :21:00.
did at the other way round, you had done lots of stuff before | :21:01. | :21:06.
Casualties. I did a little bit before, I had done stuff outside of | :21:07. | :21:10.
school, I was in a Company cover national music Theatre. Theatre was | :21:11. | :21:18.
my stomping ground, and then S Club. Was the TV show called Miami seven? | :21:19. | :21:24.
Yes, there we are. How old were you there? 17 going on 18. Did you have | :21:25. | :21:35.
any idea? We were insanely having fun. That was filmed in Essex, yes? | :21:36. | :21:43.
Exactly! We were living on location there. Was it quite weird to get | :21:44. | :21:48.
whizzed away from your folks? Yes, it was crazy but it was our normal. | :21:49. | :21:54.
In a way I only relies how crazy it was looking back, if you know what I | :21:55. | :21:57.
mean, but at the time it was just like that was our life. Back then it | :21:58. | :22:01.
was the acting that it precedents for you. Yes, that show that we did | :22:02. | :22:06.
was what it was an people enjoyed it, it was good hangover TV, it was | :22:07. | :22:12.
sunny, it was not anything to take seriously, but I was on the path to | :22:13. | :22:16.
hopefully make it as an actress before S Club came up, but what an | :22:17. | :22:20.
opportunity. An amazing career you have had. Yes, all good, and that is | :22:21. | :22:26.
what got me into getting an audition the Primeval. That was the dinosaur | :22:27. | :22:34.
one. Yes. Any sort of dream roles, what do you watch? I would love to | :22:35. | :22:41.
be in Dr Who or something like that. What about another big drama? Reid | :22:42. | :22:48.
night Manager. There is a big queue for that one. That would be amazing. | :22:49. | :22:57.
What about the music, will we see S Club back again, because you did | :22:58. | :23:02.
come back for a bit? Yes, we did it last year, so that doesn't seem that | :23:03. | :23:06.
far away for stop if we were to do something again, then maybe we would | :23:07. | :23:10.
kind of maybe do something for the 20th anniversary. So maybe a couple | :23:11. | :23:16.
of years. We are really looking forward to seeing you in casualty | :23:17. | :23:20.
this Saturday. Let's hear it for Hannah Spearritt. Time for the | :23:21. | :23:28.
biggest decision of the day. What are we watching tonight? | :23:29. | :23:40.
Two big shows, first on Channel 4, this one is at 7:15pm. Guy Martin's | :23:41. | :23:51.
Wall of Death Live. You do that really well. Using shipping | :23:52. | :23:58.
containers, Guy has built the world's largest wall of death, you | :23:59. | :24:02.
know the fairground cylinder that people ride around on motorbikes. | :24:03. | :24:08.
This one is 40 metres in diameter and guy is trying to set a new speed | :24:09. | :24:11.
record. His training has not gone valiantly. Faster! Incredibly, after | :24:12. | :24:21.
just two days of practice, Guy manages a whole minute riding the | :24:22. | :24:26.
wall. OK, come in! But that has got him dizzy again. Sorry. Just a bit | :24:27. | :24:39.
dizzy. This is majorly serious. He hasn't got gloves on or anything. He | :24:40. | :24:44.
needs to hit 60 mph to break the record but apparently he is going | :24:45. | :24:51.
for 80 to 100 mph. Biggest risk is blacking out from the G force, but | :24:52. | :24:56.
he has special G force trousers to stop the blood pumping in his legs. | :24:57. | :25:05.
I am only excited about this. If your nerves aren't totally | :25:06. | :25:11.
shattered, you have two tune in to ITV, 9p for some mystery with | :25:12. | :25:16.
Maigret. Rowan Atkinson stars as the French detective based on the novels | :25:17. | :25:24.
of Georges Simenon. Repeat murders, the killer is normally attracted to | :25:25. | :25:27.
the same kind of victim that these women are not similar in age or | :25:28. | :25:30.
profession, nor are they connected with each other through church | :25:31. | :25:35.
background. Their only link is that they were walking through Montmartre | :25:36. | :25:39.
after dark. And that they had dark hair. He leaves no witnesses. He | :25:40. | :25:47.
makes no mistakes. He is great, I love him. He is not the first actor | :25:48. | :25:52.
to play Maigret, Michael Gambon, Rupert Davies and Richard Harris | :25:53. | :25:56.
have all heard a crack at the pipe chuffing detective. Big shoes to | :25:57. | :26:07.
fill. Before we go, we are with the Lancashire Hotpots, here to | :26:08. | :26:10.
celebrate a TV trailblazer. Britain's most famous steeplejack, | :26:11. | :26:18.
Fred Dibnah. Growing up in Bolton, he was a legend, we used to drive | :26:19. | :26:21.
pastors house all the time, we loved him. You have written a song about | :26:22. | :26:27.
him. We certainly have. We live in a very high-tech age, it is easy to | :26:28. | :26:34.
forget our industrial heritage, and who better personifies that than | :26:35. | :26:40.
Fred Dibnah? What a job to inspire two, walk around, blow stuff up, | :26:41. | :26:49.
run. Get on real digital. But nothing rhymes with Fred Dibnah? | :26:50. | :26:54.
Rate there is a trick to it, if you can't find a rhyme, just say | :26:55. | :26:59.
something twice. You should use that for your songs! A quick thank you to | :27:00. | :27:05.
all of our guests. Join us tomorrow at the same time. Anna and I will be | :27:06. | :27:10.
back with Dave spiky and one of the best actresses at the moment, Helen | :27:11. | :27:16.
Manx from raised by wolves. Enjoy this from the Lancashire Hotpots. | :27:17. | :27:27.
# The hardest working bloke in't North. | :27:28. | :27:43.
# He weren't one for health and safety. | :27:44. | :27:54.
# 'Cause on that day when he passed away. | :27:55. | :28:37.
# And they don't make 'em like that any more. | :28:38. | :29:07.
# No, they don't make 'em like him any more. | :29:08. | :29:12.
# No they don't make 'em like that any more. | :29:13. | :29:16.
# And they won't make 'em like him any more. | :29:17. | :29:22. |
