# Let us all remember them tonight. #

0:11:400:11:44

We decided that we would go to them,

0:17:560:17:58

rather than wait for them to come to us.

0:17:580:18:00

So, we take the van to community centres, to sports clubs,

0:18:000:18:03

to workplaces, to restaurants, to bars,

0:18:030:18:06

to bookies - wherever we can find men, we took the service to them.

0:18:060:18:10

And why do you think men are more likely to access the service

0:18:100:18:13

here at the Man Van, rather than a traditional doctor?

0:18:130:18:15

Again, there's research that shows

0:18:150:18:18

that men feel that traditional health services

0:18:180:18:21

are more designed for women

0:18:210:18:22

and women have more experience of how to navigate the health system.

0:18:220:18:26

-Are you generally fit and well?

-Yeah.

-Are you fairly healthy?

0:18:260:18:29

-Yeah.

-Right, OK.

0:18:290:18:30

It does vary, depending on...

0:18:400:18:42

We have research from the University of Ulster

0:18:420:18:45

that show that men living in areas of deprivation,

0:18:450:18:48

who have perhaps a little bit less education,

0:18:480:18:51

a little less money to spend, know less about cancer -

0:18:510:18:55

about what causes it, and about what the symptoms are.

0:18:550:18:57

Now, we're delighted to say that an independent evaluation

0:18:570:19:01

of this service has shown that we're getting large numbers

0:19:010:19:05

of men in rural areas, men living in deprivation, single men, older men,

0:19:050:19:10

so, we're getting the people who are often described

0:19:100:19:13

as hardest to reach - but they're not hard to reach,

0:19:130:19:16

it's a matter of bringing the service to them,

0:19:160:19:18

and they are delighted to use it and to come on board.

0:19:180:19:21

-So, it is healthy.

-OK.

-It's at the top end of the healthy range.

0:19:410:19:44

Good job I cleaned my feet this morning.

0:20:430:20:45

Oh. Bit heavier than I thought.

0:20:450:20:46

-Are you?

-Yeah.

0:20:460:20:48

So, I'm just typing in your age and your height, here

0:20:490:20:52

-and then it'll work everything out for me.

-OK.

0:20:520:20:54

-Hi, Sandra.

-Hello, Tomai, how are you?

0:20:580:21:00

Not too bad. Nice to meet you.

0:21:000:21:01

-So, are you generally well, Tomai?

-Yeah, I think - I thought so.

-Good.

0:21:010:21:04

-Before I came in here today!

-Yes! Uh-huh.

0:21:040:21:06

Your blood pressure's a wee bit on the high side today.

0:21:060:21:09

-Yeah, I thought that.

-And you were quite right,

0:21:090:21:11

-you thought that it would be.

-Yeah.

0:21:110:21:13

-Well, Sandra, thank you.

-OK, Tomai.

-See you again.

-All the best.

0:21:130:21:15

-OK.

-Thank you very much now.
