It's been a week that's seen some of the BBC's biggest shows back on

0:00:020:00:05

our screens, but with them have come some changes,

0:00:050:00:08

not all of which you are happy with.

0:00:080:00:10

Welcome to this week's Points Of View.

0:00:100:00:13

First this week, the long-running criminal-catching series

0:00:230:00:27

back on the beat with a new look,

0:00:270:00:29

after a six-month absence from our screens.

0:00:290:00:31

Crimewatch returned to BBC One on Monday night with new presenters -

0:00:350:00:39

myself, joined by Radio 1 newsreader Tina Daheley.

0:00:390:00:42

Going weekly for the first time, the live show has also hit the road,

0:00:420:00:46

swapping its traditional studio for a mobile one.

0:00:460:00:50

We are starting here, at RAF Marham in Norfolk.

0:00:500:00:53

Home to the Air Force's Tornado squadrons and the location of

0:00:530:00:58

the attempted abduction of a British airman just a few weeks ago.

0:00:580:01:02

Well, the verdict on Crimewatch's refreshed format is in.

0:01:020:01:06

There was criticism of the content, with some of you questioning

0:01:270:01:30

why the show ran films about cases already solved,

0:01:300:01:34

and a feature on the perils of online dating.

0:01:340:01:37

And finally, you were unhappy with the decision to split a film about

0:01:570:02:01

the 1984 murder of a teenager, Melanie Road, in two,

0:02:010:02:05

with viewers being encouraged to tune in to tomorrow night's show

0:02:050:02:09

to see how the case was resolved.

0:02:090:02:12

Well, we put your views on Crimewatch's new format

0:02:260:02:29

to the show's executive editor, Joe Mather.

0:02:290:02:32

Here's what he had to say.

0:02:320:02:33

And following complaints about the way the show handled the film

0:02:540:02:57

about Melanie Road, the BBC issued this statement.

0:02:570:02:59

Crimewatch continues in its new guise

0:03:240:03:26

tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.

0:03:260:03:29

Now, over on BBC Two, a perennial favourite

0:03:290:03:32

has been bedding in nicely.

0:03:320:03:33

Kicking off two Fridays ago,

0:03:350:03:37

Gardeners' World is back, with episodes doubling in duration

0:03:370:03:40

to become an hour-long feast of all that flowers.

0:03:400:03:44

The first 60-minute episode saw Monty visit

0:03:440:03:46

the longest herbaceous border in the world,

0:03:460:03:49

while newcomer Flo Headlam took a trip to Liverpool.

0:03:490:03:52

So in this one, I've got hot colours.

0:03:520:03:55

Job done. Et voila.

0:04:000:04:02

The new extended format, which now includes a live weather forecast,

0:04:020:04:06

has left some of you feeling blooming marvellous.

0:04:060:04:08

But, rather than digging the longer duration,

0:04:220:04:25

others felt it was proof you really can have too much of a good thing.

0:04:250:04:28

I must say how disappointed I was

0:04:340:04:36

with the first hour-long programme.

0:04:360:04:38

It was too long, with not enough practical gardening tips.

0:04:380:04:42

Please, BBC, gardeners love Gardeners' World for what it is.

0:04:420:04:47

If the format works, don't change it.

0:04:470:04:50

The Scottish-based drama One Of Us reached its penultimate episode

0:04:530:04:57

this week on BBC One.

0:04:570:04:59

The tense thriller follows two neighbouring families who,

0:04:590:05:02

after each losing a child in a brutal murder,

0:05:020:05:05

have their worlds turned upside down once more

0:05:050:05:07

when the killer arrives on their doorstep,

0:05:070:05:10

only for him to be found murdered the next morning.

0:05:100:05:12

In Tuesday's episode,

0:05:120:05:14

mum Moira discovered her husband Bill was suffering from Parkinson's,

0:05:140:05:18

but it was this line from him that had you getting in touch.

0:05:180:05:21

Did you tell your mother about my condition

0:05:210:05:24

on the day of Grace's funeral?

0:05:240:05:25

Is that how she needed to find out that I was dying?

0:05:250:05:28

You were quick to point out

0:05:280:05:30

Parkinson's isn't a terminal disease.

0:05:300:05:32

I do have concerns that people that make these kind of programmes and

0:05:420:05:45

make these kind of statements need to take into account the feelings

0:05:450:05:50

of people, perhaps who have been recently diagnosed themselves,

0:05:500:05:54

or who have got relatives who have recently been diagnosed,

0:05:540:05:57

before they go making these statements,

0:05:570:05:59

even if it is just on a TV drama.

0:05:590:06:03

Well, here's what the creators of the series had to say in response.

0:06:030:06:06

Next, the much anticipated return of a time-travelling TV repair man,

0:06:260:06:31

last on our screens 17 years ago.

0:06:310:06:34

As part of the BBC's sitcom season,

0:06:380:06:40

the entire cast of Goodnight Sweetheart were reunited last Friday

0:06:400:06:44

for a one-off special penned by the show's original creators.

0:06:440:06:49

You were right about Cuba, just like you were right about Suez,

0:06:490:06:52

and the Berlin Wall.

0:06:520:06:54

And skiffle.

0:06:550:06:56

I never saw that coming.

0:06:580:06:59

Well, sometimes I get lucky, you know.

0:06:590:07:01

After mixed reviews for the recent remake of Are You Being Served,

0:07:010:07:04

you were in no doubt about this one.

0:07:040:07:06

Right, let's keep this simple.

0:07:060:07:08

One-off special, Goodnight Sweetheart,

0:07:080:07:12

thoroughly enjoyable.

0:07:120:07:14

Original writing team, original cast.

0:07:140:07:16

Just adds to the magic.

0:07:160:07:18

Wow. Goodnight Sweetheart,

0:07:180:07:21

the best programme the BBC has ever made,

0:07:210:07:24

and then to carry on 17 years later, brill.

0:07:240:07:28

And it's left you begging the BBC

0:07:280:07:30

not to leave Gary and Co stuck in the past.

0:07:300:07:32

I am seriously fangirling over the

0:07:320:07:34

new episode of Goodnight Sweetheart.

0:07:340:07:37

I think there is a lot of scope for a new series.

0:07:370:07:40

A generous offer, if ever there was one.

0:07:460:07:48

Are you listening, comedy commissioners?

0:07:480:07:50

There's no official word yet

0:07:500:07:52

if Goodnight Sweetheart will be making a return.

0:07:520:07:54

Such a disa...ppointment.

0:07:540:07:56

It's not just sitcoms from yesteryear that have been

0:07:570:08:00

back on our screens lately.

0:08:000:08:01

BBC Two recently rebooted the '90s bot battle show Robot Wars,

0:08:010:08:07

while ITV and Channel 4 have announced both Blankety Blank

0:08:070:08:10

and the Crystal Maze are being lined up for remakes.

0:08:100:08:14

So, as a wave of telly nostalgia sweeps the nation,

0:08:140:08:17

which classic BBC shows do you feel are ripe for a return?

0:08:170:08:22

We headed to Holmfirth, setting of the comedy classic

0:08:220:08:25

Last Of The Summer Wine, to find out.

0:08:250:08:27

I would choose Swap Shop, which was on Saturday mornings.

0:08:320:08:35

You could watch it with your kids, have your breakfast,

0:08:350:08:37

sit down for a couple of hours. It was just a great family programme.

0:08:370:08:40

Why does the chicken cross the road?

0:08:400:08:41

To get to the other side.

0:08:410:08:43

I'd like to see Men Behaving Badly.

0:08:430:08:45

Always made me laugh, that programme.

0:08:450:08:46

I would like to see Bread come back.

0:08:500:08:52

I really liked the way that they all had different jobs,

0:08:520:08:55

especially when many of them were unemployed

0:08:550:08:57

and at the end of the day, they had

0:08:570:08:58

to put all their money and earnings in the bread bin for their mum.

0:08:580:09:02

I'd like to bring back The Good Life.

0:09:020:09:04

And this is due to the values shown in the programme.

0:09:040:09:07

Right. Right. Right.

0:09:070:09:09

Margot, I'll stop mine if you'll stop yours.

0:09:090:09:10

So, listen very carefully, I shall say this only once.

0:09:130:09:15

I'd really like to bring back 'Allo 'Allo.

0:09:150:09:18

Listen very carefully, for I shall say this only once.

0:09:180:09:20

We used to sit around and watch it.

0:09:200:09:22

I think it was on Sunday nights.

0:09:220:09:24

It was just such a great show, full of laughs.

0:09:240:09:26

And, yeah, I'd love to see that again.

0:09:260:09:28

I would like to see SuperTed come back.

0:09:280:09:31

I loved it as a child and I would like my daughters,

0:09:310:09:34

Jessica and Isabella, to see it too.

0:09:340:09:36

Gee, thanks, SuperTed!

0:09:360:09:39

I'd like to see Last Of The Summer Wine come back.

0:09:390:09:41

It was a really popular programme.

0:09:410:09:43

It was lovely to watch it, Sunday evening, sit down,

0:09:430:09:47

gentle humour, and everybody could enjoy it.

0:09:470:09:50

Give me a sign! Give me a sign!

0:09:500:09:54

Plenty of appetite, it appears, for more series to return.

0:09:570:10:00

If you've a BBC show you'd love to see make a comeback, let us know.

0:10:000:10:04

Contact details coming up at the end of the show.

0:10:040:10:06

STRICTLY COME DANCING INTRO PLAYS

0:10:060:10:09

That can only mean one thing!

0:10:090:10:10

# Everybody dance now! #

0:10:100:10:12

Yes, sequins were shimmering and the glitter ball gleaming last Saturday,

0:10:150:10:18

as Strictly Come Dancing's 14th series began with a red carpet

0:10:180:10:22

launch show which saw this year's line-up,

0:10:220:10:25

including singer Will Young and former Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls,

0:10:250:10:29

paired with their partners.

0:10:290:10:31

It's Katya!

0:10:310:10:32

Most of you scored this one a firm...

0:10:390:10:41

TUNEFULLY: ..ten!

0:10:410:10:42

Wow! What a series opener.

0:10:420:10:45

Dripping with the sass and razzle-dazzle that we have

0:10:450:10:48

come to expect from this funfest of glitz, glamour and glitter.

0:10:480:10:53

But not everyone was enthralled by the space-themed opening

0:11:020:11:05

that started the show.

0:11:050:11:06

So sorry.

0:11:080:11:10

The Strictly live shows start in just under two weeks' time

0:11:150:11:18

on 23rd September. Can't wait.

0:11:180:11:21

Sticking with Saturday nights,

0:11:240:11:26

BBC Four has been serving up another slice of Nordic noir in the form of

0:11:260:11:30

Swedish detective series Beck,

0:11:300:11:32

a modern-day dramatisation of a set of novels penned by a Swedish couple

0:11:390:11:43

more than 30 years ago.

0:11:430:11:45

It seems you can't get enough of Scandi dramas.

0:11:450:11:49

But, in recent weeks, the show has been spoiled for some

0:11:580:12:01

by a disappearance, and not one written into the script.

0:12:010:12:04

I really enjoy my Scandi thrillers on TV.

0:12:040:12:07

So I was a bit put out and upset when, in the last episode of Beck,

0:12:070:12:13

you couldn't hear what the characters were saying.

0:12:130:12:17

I don't know what you've done to the sound, BBC.

0:12:170:12:20

While music and sound effects were perfectly audible,

0:12:270:12:29

the actors' dialogue was almost impossible to hear.

0:12:290:12:32

And for once, it wasn't down to mumbling actors

0:12:320:12:36

or loud background music.

0:12:360:12:37

That's all for this week.

0:12:530:12:54

Please do keep your points of view coming.

0:13:030:13:06

We are on social media, of course.

0:13:060:13:07

Tweet us at...

0:13:070:13:09

..or join in the conversation about the week's television

0:13:090:13:12

on our Facebook page.

0:13:120:13:13

And you can pick up the phone, the old-fashioned way.

0:13:130:13:15

The number is...

0:13:150:13:17

Calls are charged at a local rate from a landline,

0:13:200:13:23

mobile tariffs will vary.

0:13:230:13:25

We've been bumped by the tennis next week,

0:13:250:13:27

so we will be back here at lunchtime next Sunday, 12.30, to be precise.

0:13:270:13:32

Set your generic hard disk recorders now, and I'll see you then.

0:13:320:13:36

The case against you is too strong.
