Hello, and a very good evening from St James's Park, | :00:35. | :00:38.
on this our final day's celebration for Her Majesty's 90th | :00:39. | :00:44.
We've been spoilt with some wonderful scenes already | :00:45. | :00:52.
The crowds were six or seven deep on the pavements around | :00:53. | :00:57.
St Paul's Cathedral on Friday and yesterday they stretched as far | :00:58. | :01:00.
Today was no exception, as the famous red road was transformed | :01:01. | :01:07.
I'm joined here in St James's Park by Darcey Bussell, | :01:08. | :01:18.
Lesley Garrett and Katie Nicholl. Thanks for staying on. Katie Nicholl | :01:19. | :01:26.
from the Mail on Sunday, first of all, you have been here for much of | :01:27. | :01:30.
the weekend, what particularly struck you about the days events? I | :01:31. | :01:35.
loved today's events, the royal walkabout was so special, seeing all | :01:36. | :01:41.
of the Royal family greeting members of the public, many of whom had | :01:42. | :01:46.
spent hours in the rain, making it worth their while, and for the Queen | :01:47. | :01:51.
to come and pay tribute to those patron ages, the organisations of | :01:52. | :01:55.
which she has been the patron for so long, that was special. There was a | :01:56. | :02:00.
lovely element of surprise about today. A wonderful speech by the | :02:01. | :02:08.
Duke of Cambridge. The pomp and pageantry and celebration and rain | :02:09. | :02:11.
and more rain, it has been British and fabulous. The sun is out at the | :02:12. | :02:19.
moment. Darcey Bussell, you danced down the Mall. Not many people can | :02:20. | :02:24.
say that. How did it feel? It was lovely to see their smiles, and all | :02:25. | :02:28.
of the students around, seeing them coming down the Mall and then | :02:29. | :02:31.
joining them in the end was such a treat. You are president of the | :02:32. | :02:38.
Royal Academy of dance, we saw so many people, we will see clips of | :02:39. | :02:44.
them later, an integral part of the parade but specifically where you | :02:45. | :02:47.
yourself danced and we saw this great handbag. Tell us the thinking | :02:48. | :02:52.
behind that. The important messages to say thank you to the Queen for | :02:53. | :02:56.
everything she has done for these charities and we had to reveal that | :02:57. | :03:02.
and we had to decide how to reveal that and it was done on a painted | :03:03. | :03:06.
piece of silk that had to come out of something and a handbag seemed | :03:07. | :03:10.
the most iconic lease of the Queen'swardrobe that we could think | :03:11. | :03:15.
of that would work. They thought possibly someone would jump out of | :03:16. | :03:19.
it but I thought that was beautiful, beautifully painted. It is exciting | :03:20. | :03:24.
because we never rehearsed with the handbag so I can't tell you how | :03:25. | :03:27.
nerve wracking it was, whether it would actually come out in the way | :03:28. | :03:31.
it should. And frankly that it would be the right way up. Nobody knew | :03:32. | :03:36.
what was going to happen. I heard somebody say, when Darcey jumps out | :03:37. | :03:42.
the handbag... I know she's good, but... I can't do that at my age. I | :03:43. | :03:47.
loved being there for all of this tunes and the Royal family and it | :03:48. | :03:50.
was incredibly special because the sun was out, no puddles, and we | :03:51. | :03:56.
could relax enjoy it. Lesley Garrett, we know that today was all | :03:57. | :04:01.
about our Monica's 90 years but also about her saying thank you to the | :04:02. | :04:07.
thousands of people that hold together the charities of which she | :04:08. | :04:12.
is patron, over 600. You were dashing around in the studio and | :04:13. | :04:16.
across the Mall. Those people were saying thank you but also being | :04:17. | :04:21.
treated to a sparkling day out? It was wonderful, the sun shone at the | :04:22. | :04:25.
right moment, when the pageant happened. For me what was special | :04:26. | :04:30.
was the idea of community. And service to the community. There is | :04:31. | :04:34.
no one in the world better at this than the Queen. She is the envy, we | :04:35. | :04:40.
are the envy of the world for having her as this shining example of what | :04:41. | :04:44.
service to the community is all about. She inspires us to serve our | :04:45. | :04:49.
communities also. And the communities that each charity | :04:50. | :04:52.
represents and we support, comes directly from her inspiration. And | :04:53. | :04:58.
without her, I think this great tradition we have in this country of | :04:59. | :05:03.
charitable giving and support really probably wouldn't exist. Do you | :05:04. | :05:07.
agree with Lesley? It was a party, yes, but a party with a message? | :05:08. | :05:13.
Very much so, and it was a thank you, the fact that the Queen took to | :05:14. | :05:16.
the stage to thank the people, not just all of the patronages, but she | :05:17. | :05:27.
also mentioned all of the greetings she had received. It is rare that | :05:28. | :05:30.
she gets the chance to address her people, she gets the Christmas | :05:31. | :05:35.
message but other than that? That truly felt like it was from the | :05:36. | :05:40.
heart. And a joke at the end. It is difficult. She is fun. I hope you | :05:41. | :05:47.
will still be singing happy birthday in December. The message was very | :05:48. | :05:51.
much, I hope you're not! You were pretty close to the Queen, did she | :05:52. | :05:55.
look as though she was enjoying it? There was lots of little claps | :05:56. | :06:01.
coming, and the smile on her face, having her grandchildren around her, | :06:02. | :06:05.
and persons, you could see that they are really happy. It did help. | :06:06. | :06:12.
Lovely to talk to you. The celebrations started on Friday with | :06:13. | :06:15.
the National Service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral. | :06:16. | :06:20.
Let's remind ourselves of that day of celebration which not only | :06:21. | :06:22.
commemorated the Queen's 90 years, but was also the Duke | :06:23. | :06:25.
The service started with a procession, which included the | :06:26. | :06:38.
Archbishop of Canterbury, who had prepared a special sermon. It also | :06:39. | :06:43.
included other members of the chapter of St Paul's. | :06:44. | :06:55.
And leading the procession was the Pearl sword, a symbol of the | :06:56. | :07:01.
authority of the Lord Mayor of London. | :07:02. | :07:29.
Dear friends, we come together to give thanks as one family under God | :07:30. | :07:38.
for life in all its fullness, for love in all its power. For joy in | :07:39. | :07:42.
all its wonder. Most especially today do we give | :07:43. | :07:51.
thanks for the length of years that has been granted to our most | :07:52. | :07:54.
gracious Sovereign Lady, For her faithful devotion, | :07:55. | :07:56.
dutiful commitment, loving leadership, gentle constancy, | :07:57. | :07:59.
royal dignity and kindly humanity. And as we give thanks | :08:00. | :08:05.
for Her Majesty, so also do we give thanks for Philip, Duke of | :08:06. | :08:10.
Edinburgh, and all the Royal Family, for mutual love and support | :08:11. | :08:13.
and for service to this country Rejoicing at our good fortune, | :08:14. | :08:15.
we nonetheless pray The lonely and the despairing, | :08:16. | :08:23.
the sick and the fearful, the weak and the oppressed, | :08:24. | :08:30.
that each precious life may be redeemed by love of God | :08:31. | :08:34.
and love of neighbour, that together we may share | :08:35. | :08:40.
in one another's joy. # Guard us, guide us, | :08:41. | :09:08.
keep us, feed us 90 years ago, Her Majesty The Queen | :09:09. | :09:22.
was born. Like every human being, | :09:23. | :10:51.
knit together in her mother's womb, and today we thank God | :10:52. | :10:53.
for the way in which she, like every human being, | :10:54. | :10:56.
is fearfully and wonderfully made. Before we ever come to light, | :10:57. | :10:58.
God marks our journeys. No one at the Queen's birth knew | :10:59. | :11:02.
for what she was destined. Over the 63 years and the 90 years, | :11:03. | :11:27.
there has been much to fear. Just as the... And more extraordinary, so we | :11:28. | :11:33.
look back on your Majesty's 90 years in the life of our nation, with deep | :11:34. | :11:36.
wonder and profound gratitude. Through war and hardship, | :11:37. | :11:41.
through turmoil and change, we have been fearfully | :11:42. | :11:43.
and wonderfully sustained. You have been an instrument | :11:44. | :11:54.
of God's peace. And through you, God has so often | :11:55. | :11:56.
turned fear into wonder and joy. In the name of the Father | :11:57. | :12:01.
and of the Son and of With the Psalmist, let us call | :12:02. | :12:04.
upon the name of the Lord, and give thanks for all that God has | :12:05. | :12:21.
done, that the hearts of those God of Glory, we give you thanks | :12:22. | :12:24.
for bringing us to birth. Let our mouths be filled | :12:25. | :12:37.
with your praise that we may sing God our King, we give you thanks | :12:38. | :12:40.
for the 90th birthday Sustain and strengthen | :12:41. | :12:54.
her that her reign may God our saviour, we give you thanks | :12:55. | :12:57.
for Jesus Christ, your Son. Enliven the Church, | :12:58. | :13:15.
his body in the world, God our maker, we give you thanks | :13:16. | :13:17.
for the world in which we live. Help us to tend and care for it that | :13:18. | :13:36.
all life may enjoy the fruits Like me, author Michael Bond, | :13:37. | :13:40.
the creator of Paddington Bear among other characters, | :13:41. | :16:02.
also celebrates his 90th Here are his reflections on the 1926 | :16:03. | :16:05.
vintage and the passing I was born on January | :16:06. | :16:13.
the 13th, 1926. My mother took one look at the | :16:14. | :16:25.
scales and decided to call it a day. So I was destined to be an only | :16:26. | :16:32.
child at the outset. I was fortunate enough to be brought | :16:33. | :16:48.
up in a house where books were part My mother was such an avid reader | :16:49. | :16:52.
that she wrote to authors to thank them, and in the same letter asking | :16:53. | :16:56.
if they would make the next My father's motto was, | :16:57. | :16:59.
"The most precious gift you can He was a very polite man, | :17:00. | :17:06.
and always wore a hat when he went outside in public in case he met | :17:07. | :17:16.
anyone he knew. Addressing people older | :17:17. | :17:22.
than yourselves by their Christian name, if you were a child, could be | :17:23. | :17:33.
a tricky business in those days. Which meant that most adults | :17:34. | :17:37.
were either labelled Owing to the horrendous casualties | :17:38. | :17:39.
in the First World War, And because most of them lead lonely | :17:40. | :17:45.
lives, I was frequently invited It wasn't until I reached the age | :17:46. | :17:52.
of 90 that I began to realise the comfort of Louise Haskins' | :17:53. | :18:12.
words suggesting that when you have a problem, | :18:13. | :18:14.
your best bet is to consult the man Truly, if you put your hand | :18:15. | :18:17.
into the hands of God, that shall be to you better | :18:18. | :18:28.
than light and safer Hold fast that which is good, | :18:29. | :18:33.
render to no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, | :18:34. | :18:55.
support the weak, help Love and serve the Lord, | :18:56. | :18:58.
rejoicing in the power And the blessing of God almighty, | :18:59. | :19:04.
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, | :19:05. | :19:10.
be amongst you and remain The Archbishop of Canterbury ending | :19:11. | :19:38.
the service. Katie, what were the highlights? I was going to and to | :19:39. | :19:41.
your question, it was very interesting to have other 90 air | :19:42. | :19:47.
Haas? Yes, a very nice touch to have David Attenborough and Michael Bond, | :19:48. | :19:52.
that familiar tone that puts everyone to use and is immediately | :19:53. | :20:01.
recognisable. Other celebrations of other birthdays. There was a prayer | :20:02. | :20:05.
by a member of the Royal household. Just a sense of inclusivity. The | :20:06. | :20:11.
Duke of Edinburgh, who is 95, got three or four mentions. The Royal | :20:12. | :20:17.
household, that was Oscar Matthew, and underfoot man. Lesley Garrett, | :20:18. | :20:21.
there is an indication if it was needed but so much of royalty is | :20:22. | :20:25.
about tradition, but the careful tweaks that help to stay relevant, | :20:26. | :20:28.
we would not have seen that in services gone by. As you watch the | :20:29. | :20:33.
performers, as somebody who has performed on countless occasions for | :20:34. | :20:36.
the Royal, specifically for the Queen, are your sympathies with | :20:37. | :20:41.
people who have to performed? There was a wonderful young pianist. It | :20:42. | :20:47.
must be no fracking. Is is nerve wracking, but it is a bit like | :20:48. | :20:50.
singing for your mum. You know she is willing you to do well and is | :20:51. | :20:55.
very appreciative that you are there and giving your all. In a way, she | :20:56. | :21:00.
puts you at ease, as all the Royal family is good at doing. One | :21:01. | :21:06.
particular time when I sang for the Queen in seal in Korea, I was doing | :21:07. | :21:11.
a Pacific Rim tour and I was asked to do to two Seoul to perform for | :21:12. | :21:20.
her birthday. It was the first royal visit of the green to that country. | :21:21. | :21:27.
-- to do a detour to Seoul. I tripped on with 50 Korean five roles | :21:28. | :21:31.
in national dress, and it brought a tear to her eyes. -- five-year-olds. | :21:32. | :21:38.
But what was impressive was that it was a five-day trade mission around | :21:39. | :21:44.
her visit. I observed that she started work at eight o'clock in the | :21:45. | :21:48.
morning, did not finish until 11 o'clock at night every day, and the | :21:49. | :21:54.
Duke also. ?4.5 billion worth of trade went down for Britain that | :21:55. | :21:59.
week. All because of her. If that wasn't Seoul, she would have been in | :22:00. | :22:05.
her 70s? Mid to late 70s, very long working days, but I think she works | :22:06. | :22:07.
as hard now. In yesterday's main event | :22:08. | :22:09.
the military said their happy birthday to Her Majesty | :22:10. | :22:12.
in the annual spectacle Let's join Huw Edwards to recall | :22:13. | :22:14.
the highlights of the parade Every year on a Saturday morning in | :22:15. | :22:28.
June, the sovereign's official birthday is celebrated in great | :22:29. | :22:32.
style with the ceremony of Trooping the Colour. The honour of Trooping | :22:33. | :22:37.
the Colour in 2016 falls to the Coldstream Guards. So stand by for a | :22:38. | :22:40.
thrilling display at the Queen's Birthday Parade. | :22:41. | :23:00.
Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh are on the way to the | :23:01. | :23:11.
birth date arrayed at Horse Guards. Number three guard has opened up to | :23:12. | :23:14.
make way for the first royal guests. It is also an opportunity for the | :23:15. | :23:56.
Massed Bands to entertain. The man in charge as the senior of music, | :23:57. | :24:09.

distinctions a former commander of the 1st Battalion, Coldstream | :24:32. | :24:35.

The escort stepping off with great energy and purpose to the rousing | :25:40. | :25:45.
march of the British Grenadiers on their way to escort the colour, | :25:46. | :25:49.
showing the results of weeks of hard work. | :25:50. | :25:56.
Such a proud moment for the regimental Sergeant Major who served | :25:57. | :26:07.
in Iraq and Afghanistan. He now prepares to take possession of the | :26:08. | :26:10.
colour, detecting it with his sword, ready to hand it safely over to the | :26:11. | :26:14.
ensign. The transfer is made | :26:15. | :26:25.
? as the Ensign, 2nd receives the Colour | :26:26. | :26:30.
from Regimental Sergeant Major ? We approach a deeply | :26:31. | :26:37.
symbolic part of this It's the spiritual | :26:38. | :27:18.
heart of the parade. All the Coldstreamers past | :27:19. | :27:25.
and present watching will be feeling Lieutenant James Potter, | :27:26. | :27:27.
who's 25 and from Salisbury, joined the Army less than two years ago, | :27:28. | :27:45.

the Drums and Pipes, led by John They've got a lot of | :28:12. | :28:15.

Having seen them get ready this morning I | :30:17. | :30:18.
The Household Cavalry consists of two regiments, | :30:19. | :30:28.

Your Majesty's Guards are ready to march off, ma'am. | :32:00. | :32:15.

behalf of all the troops from the Commanding Officer for the | :32:29. | :32:30.
So as the Commanding Officer takes his position, first carriages are | :32:31. | :32:39.

So some rousing and energetic music, Mauritania. | :33:00. | :33:32.
That is the march off music at the end of this parade. | :33:33. | :33:36.
This is the moment, Greville, where the Queen will be | :33:37. | :33:39.
reflecting on what the parade has been like. | :33:40. | :33:41.
The Duke of Edinburgh no doubt has his views too. | :33:42. | :33:46.
And to what extent do you think the verdict is clear at | :33:47. | :33:49.
I think Her Majesty will have reached a pretty sound | :33:50. | :33:52.
I think she will have loved it. I thought it looked absolutely | :33:53. | :34:02.
terrific. Nice weather, enjoying the fact lots | :34:03. | :34:11.

Robert Hardman ? who writes | :34:52. | :34:54.
for the Daily Mail. Thank you for joining us, | :34:55. | :34:56.
your thoughts on the parade today. first public appearance from | :34:57. | :34:58.
Princess Charlotte, waiting in the The Queen acknowledging the applause | :34:59. | :35:15.
of this enormous crowd. There will be a big | :35:16. | :35:24.
round of applause and delight when I'm sure people see | :35:25. | :35:26.
the Spitfire and Hurricane. The iconic Battle of | :35:27. | :35:28.
Britain Memorial Flight. C-130 Hercules and two | :35:29. | :35:38.
pilot trainers. Thundering through the sky | :35:39. | :35:43.
above Buckingham Palace. Joining me now is someone | :35:44. | :35:59.
who was instrumental in the planning of today's street party ? | :36:00. | :36:22.
and in between laying the picnic tables they also attended | :36:23. | :36:25.
yesterday's Birthday Parade. I must surely say congratulations, | :36:26. | :36:27.
grandson, Peter Phillips. I must surely say congratulations, | :36:28. | :36:35.
you must be pleased with how it went today. Yes, and slightly relieved, | :36:36. | :36:39.
we caught a lucky break with the weather in between the showers. | :36:40. | :36:44.
Listen, everybody I have spoken to as they were leaving were very | :36:45. | :36:47.
happy. The great British Perrett shone through in the early rain | :36:48. | :36:52.
shower we had in the morning and everyone just carried on and was | :36:53. | :36:59.
happy. -- the great British spirit. The appearance of the Queen made | :37:00. | :37:03.
everyone's day. Are you getting shattered? I am getting that way! | :37:04. | :37:07.
But you still have a smile on your face. Good for you. These ceremonial | :37:08. | :37:13.
occasions have very strict requirements for Trooping the Colour | :37:14. | :37:16.
and everything that happens afterwards and yet you only had a | :37:17. | :37:20.
matter of hours to set up a street party for 10,000 people involved in | :37:21. | :37:25.
the Queen's600 charities. What was the schedule like and how did it | :37:26. | :37:31.
work? Tide. 160 vehicles on loaded in 12 hours. Then obviously we had | :37:32. | :37:39.
to make sure everything was finished off properly and all of the rest of | :37:40. | :37:44.
it prior to the gates opening this morning at 10am. -- vehicles | :37:45. | :37:48.
unloaded. It looks very simple in the time-lapse. It looks almost | :37:49. | :37:53.
flawless. I don't know why you are making such a fuss! CHUCKLES | :37:54. | :37:57.
I saw you throughout the day 's parade chatting to your grandmother | :37:58. | :38:01.
and taking her through it as you were sat by her side. Which bids in | :38:02. | :38:06.
particular did she enjoy? She enjoyed quite a lot of it, one of | :38:07. | :38:10.
the big things was the fact she enjoyed seeing all of these | :38:11. | :38:14.
organisations represented, she has such a long associations with them. | :38:15. | :38:19.
For her it was about being able to give all of these organisations and | :38:20. | :38:23.
opportunity and a platform to come and enjoy this event and celebrate. | :38:24. | :38:29.
But also, you know, these organisations didn't just come to | :38:30. | :38:32.
the mall, they were holding their own events across the country. She | :38:33. | :38:38.
was really happy and enjoyed the day and she would have seen a lot of | :38:39. | :38:41.
familiar faces when she went up and down the Mall. Thousands of cups and | :38:42. | :38:52.
tea and sandwiches, did you have a chance to have one yourself? I might | :38:53. | :38:58.
see if there are any hampers left over. I think they may be gone. Any | :38:59. | :39:03.
chance of a repeat performance next year? Very unlikely, we made it | :39:04. | :39:08.
clear this was a one-off. Everybody seemed to enjoy it. Congratulations. | :39:09. | :39:15.
A unique way to wish the Queen happy birthday. We will now take you | :39:16. | :39:21.
through some of the highlights. Thank you so much. | :39:22. | :39:36.
What did Kate say to you? She asked about what we do as a charity and | :39:37. | :39:44.
she spent a while chatting to us, it was fantastic. You are still | :39:45. | :39:49.
buzzing. It was wonderful, what an amazing opportunity. You have | :39:50. | :39:54.
travelled a long way today, has this met your expectations? It's amazing. | :39:55. | :40:00.
Why has it been so wonderful? It is great because it has been a | :40:01. | :40:04.
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, this is our one chance. After the royal | :40:05. | :40:14.
walkabout there was then the appearance by Her Majesty The Queen | :40:15. | :40:17.
accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. Both | :40:18. | :40:23.
thoroughly enjoying the occasion and heading down the Mall is they made | :40:24. | :40:28.
their way along the Mall the heading to Admiralty Arch where Her | :40:29. | :40:32.
Majesty's family was waiting and Prince William gave his own special | :40:33. | :40:44.
tribute to his grandmother. Your Majesty. Good afternoon everybody. | :40:45. | :40:53.
Thank you so much for showing that the great British public doesn't let | :40:54. | :40:56.
a little rain spoiled a good day out. CHEERING | :40:57. | :41:04.
Catherine, Harry and I and the rest of our family are extremely proud to | :41:05. | :41:11.
be here today. My family has had plenty of reason to celebrate since | :41:12. | :41:19.
the Queen turned 90 in April. The Queen'sstrong health and relentless | :41:20. | :41:21.
energy, her sharp wit and famous sense of humour, and the fact that | :41:22. | :41:26.
the Queen remains very much at the helm of our family, our nation, and | :41:27. | :41:32.
the Commonwealth. The Queen at 90 is the one head of state that world | :41:33. | :41:38.
leaders can turn to for a first-hand perspective of the archive history | :41:39. | :41:43.
over the last six decades. But the reason we are here today is to | :41:44. | :41:48.
celebrate a role that matters just as much to the Queen as the one that | :41:49. | :41:54.
she holds on the world stage. We are here to celebrate the Queen as | :41:55. | :41:58.
patron. Her commitment to the more than 600 charities to which she | :41:59. | :42:02.
lends her name and support is unwavering. From national military | :42:03. | :42:14.
and sporting bodies to small local associations, to charities that | :42:15. | :42:18.
Champion children, faith, education and arts, the Queen'spride in her | :42:19. | :42:23.
role as patron is absolute so under half of my entire family can I say | :42:24. | :42:29.
thank you, you have been partners in the Queen'sservice for so many | :42:30. | :42:33.
years. Before I finish I hope you won't mind if I say a personal thank | :42:34. | :42:38.
you to the Queen and to do so under half of her grandchildren and | :42:39. | :42:42.
great-grandchildren. Granny, thank you for everything you have done for | :42:43. | :42:47.
your family, we could not wish you a happy birthday. APPLAUSE | :42:48. | :42:52.
Now it is my honour to invite to the microphone Her Majesty The Queen. | :42:53. | :42:52.
CHEERING To everyone here today, and those | :42:53. | :43:16.
holding street parties elsewhere, I would like to say thank you for the | :43:17. | :43:21.
wonderful support and encouragement that you continue to give to me. I | :43:22. | :43:27.
hope that these happy celebrations will remind us of the many benefits | :43:28. | :43:33.
that can flow when people come together for a common purpose, as | :43:34. | :43:41.
families, friends or neighbours. And I pay tribute to the commitments, | :43:42. | :43:48.
selfless devotion and generosity of spirit shown by the hundreds of | :43:49. | :43:53.
charities and voluntary organisations represented here | :43:54. | :44:01.
today. You are an example to us all. I much appreciate the kindness of | :44:02. | :44:06.
all your birthday wishes and have been delighted and moved by the many | :44:07. | :44:14.
cards and messages I have received. How I will feel if people are still | :44:15. | :44:19.
singing Happy Birthday in December remains to be seen. | :44:20. | :44:21.
LAUGHTER APPLAUSE | :44:22. | :44:34.

And what a weekend of celebration it's been. | :56:36. | :56:36.
It began on Friday when over 50 members of the Royal Family | :56:37. | :56:39.
and nearly 2000 guests attended a Service of Thanksgiving | :56:40. | :56:42.
