Time spent travelling on the other side of the world

0:00:020:00:05

when you're footloose and fancy free

0:00:050:00:07

can often leave you longing for more,

0:00:070:00:09

but when your bachelor days are behind you

0:00:090:00:12

and you've a wife that's happy at home,

0:00:120:00:15

is it a move you can realistically make?

0:00:150:00:18

In 2015, Greg and Jenni Wallen

0:00:180:00:22

spent a week in New Zealand to find out.

0:00:220:00:25

Today we'll discover where they are now.

0:00:250:00:28

Ever since backpacking in New Zealand,

0:00:290:00:31

Greg Wallen had been bent on making a permanent return.

0:00:310:00:35

I want to make a home in New Zealand more than anything in the world.

0:00:360:00:39

In 2015, his wife was willing to be convinced.

0:00:390:00:42

It's always been his dream,

0:00:420:00:44

it's been what he wants to do and he put all of that on hold for me.

0:00:440:00:47

I owe him to try.

0:00:470:00:48

However, when a trial week in the country didn't quite go to plan...

0:00:480:00:52

It's cold, the floor feels damp.

0:00:520:00:54

It's not the image that I had in my head of moving to New Zealand.

0:00:540:00:56

I'm worried, Jen, really, really worried.

0:00:560:00:59

One year on, is there a happy ending for both of them?

0:00:590:01:02

I'm not convinced that we are on the same page.

0:01:020:01:05

Lying nearly 1,000 miles from its neighbour Australia,

0:01:270:01:30

New Zealand's home to the southernmost capital in the world.

0:01:300:01:34

A third of the country is designated as national parks and reserves and

0:01:340:01:38

inhabitants are never more than 80 miles from the sea,

0:01:380:01:41

so it's easy to see why every year

0:01:410:01:44

7,000 adventure-loving Brits

0:01:440:01:46

choose to make the country home.

0:01:460:01:48

Greg Wallen was all set to return to the land he loved as a backpacker

0:01:480:01:53

when a dabble in online dating

0:01:530:01:55

bought his plans to an abrupt halt.

0:01:550:01:57

Fast forward to 2015,

0:01:570:02:00

and Greg still believed New Zealand was where he should be living,

0:02:000:02:04

but to make the move,

0:02:040:02:05

first he needed to convince wife Jenni it was a realistic option.

0:02:050:02:10

The Wallens' trial week began with more than 22 hours in the air,

0:02:110:02:15

flying to Auckland via Hong Kong.

0:02:150:02:17

For Jenni, who was three months pregnant,

0:02:210:02:24

the journey was a particularly gruelling one.

0:02:240:02:26

My morning sickness, which lasted...

0:02:270:02:31

27 hours,

0:02:310:02:33

was not great!

0:02:330:02:34

The long trip had given Jenni plenty of time to think about the distance

0:02:340:02:38

she was putting between family.

0:02:380:02:40

I kept thinking about how often my mum would likely come over,

0:02:400:02:44

and it all just got a little bit overwhelming, didn't it?

0:02:440:02:47

For Greg, touching down on Kiwi soil was moving, too.

0:02:480:02:52

I got a bit emotional when I landed, actually.

0:02:520:02:54

It was kind of like, almost like an "I'm home" feeling.

0:02:540:02:57

Whether New Zealand would become his home would depend on Greg persuading

0:02:580:03:02

Jenni in the coming days.

0:03:020:03:04

In 2015, the Wallens - Greg,

0:03:060:03:08

Jenni and Evie, who was three,

0:03:080:03:11

were living in Sheffield.

0:03:110:03:12

Five years earlier, as a young, carefree bachelor,

0:03:140:03:17

Greg had fallen for New Zealand while backpacking.

0:03:170:03:21

The thing I liked most about New Zealand was the people, the culture,

0:03:210:03:23

I think, of the country.

0:03:230:03:25

When his travel visa expired, Greg had reluctantly returned to the UK,

0:03:250:03:30

but smitten with everything New Zealand had to offer,

0:03:300:03:33

he immediately began planning to move there for good.

0:03:330:03:36

I had about a six-month, tops, target in my head and then go back.

0:03:360:03:40

But fate intervened in his New Zealand plans

0:03:410:03:44

when he dipped his toe in the waters of online dating.

0:03:440:03:47

I wasn't looking for anything serious, I wasn't looking for love,

0:03:470:03:50

I wasn't looking for marriage.

0:03:500:03:51

I don't think either of us really went into it thinking that...

0:03:510:03:56

"This is going to be a long-term relationship".

0:03:560:03:58

Within two weeks of meeting,

0:03:580:04:00

Greg begged Jenni to join him for a new life in New Zealand,

0:04:000:04:04

but as their relationship blossomed,

0:04:040:04:06

it was clear her heart lay in the UK.

0:04:060:04:08

I fell in love with Jen and the more I was falling in love with Jen,

0:04:080:04:11

the more the dream was slipping away at the same time.

0:04:110:04:13

Then Jen was going, "Stay, don't go back, we can have a good life here".

0:04:130:04:17

I was just, obviously, I was torn.

0:04:170:04:20

Choosing love over the Kiwi lifestyle,

0:04:210:04:23

Greg settled into home life with his new-formed family.

0:04:230:04:27

But when the couple married in 2013,

0:04:280:04:31

his dream of a life in New Zealand hadn't disappeared.

0:04:310:04:35

When I lived in New Zealand, I felt it was perfect for me.

0:04:350:04:37

I remember walking through towns, parks, beaches,

0:04:370:04:40

kids everywhere and they were all incredibly happy.

0:04:400:04:42

And I remember just thinking to myself all the time,

0:04:420:04:44

"This is a brilliant place to raise a family".

0:04:440:04:48

When Jenni was pregnant in 2015,

0:04:480:04:50

the couple were outgrowing their current home and Greg seized

0:04:500:04:54

the opportunity to kick-start his dream again.

0:04:540:04:56

If we can make it work, finance, job wise, quality of life wise,

0:04:570:05:02

now would be a good time.

0:05:020:05:03

But Jenni was already losing sleep thinking about leaving her family

0:05:030:05:07

-behind.

-I'll wake up in the night,

0:05:070:05:10

or I'll be talking to one of my family or friends who are saying,

0:05:100:05:14

"Oh, we're going to miss you," and I crumble and go,

0:05:140:05:18

"I don't know if I can do this!"

0:05:180:05:20

And taking Evie away from her grandparents

0:05:210:05:23

was also causing concern.

0:05:230:05:25

It's one of the things that holds me back,

0:05:260:05:28

thinking that Evie's not going to have that relationship with

0:05:280:05:31

her grandparents that I really want her to have.

0:05:310:05:35

Leaving loved ones would be hard for Greg, too.

0:05:350:05:38

He'd only recently been reconciled with his mum.

0:05:380:05:41

The hardest person for me to leave behind would probably be...

0:05:410:05:44

Sorry, it's probably...

0:05:440:05:46

It's probably going to be my mum.

0:05:490:05:50

I hadn't talked to my mum for a number of years, and, um...

0:05:510:05:54

..since meeting Jen, we've kind of got our relationship back,

0:05:550:05:58

so...I'm kind of nervous about chucking that away again.

0:05:580:06:02

That's tough for me.

0:06:020:06:04

For four years, Greg had been desperate to make a permanent return to New Zealand.

0:06:040:06:09

Now, he had one week to see if the country he fell for

0:06:090:06:12

as a backpacker was as good as he remembered,

0:06:120:06:15

and convince his wife to start again on the other side of the world.

0:06:150:06:20

To move to New Zealand is a risk, it's a massive risk, it's a gamble,

0:06:200:06:24

-I'm not going to lie about it.

-The rest of our life feels on hold

0:06:240:06:27

until we've made that decision.

0:06:270:06:29

Greg, Jenni and Evie spent their trial week in Auckland,

0:06:380:06:41

home to a third of all New Zealanders.

0:06:410:06:44

Their base for the week was situated in Milford,

0:06:440:06:46

on the city's North Shore.

0:06:460:06:48

Did her first taste of Kiwi living work its charms on Jenni?

0:06:490:06:53

Wow, it looks lovely!

0:06:550:06:57

As they settled in,

0:06:570:06:58

Greg was overjoyed to have finally got Jenni to New Zealand.

0:06:580:07:02

It's took four years to get Jenni to this point,

0:07:020:07:05

I can't believe it's all boiled down to this.

0:07:050:07:08

But she was anxious about the week ahead.

0:07:080:07:11

Deciding on the rest of my life at the end of this week is...

0:07:110:07:13

..quite a scary prospect.

0:07:140:07:16

And in no mood to bow to pressure.

0:07:160:07:19

He's going to have to allow me time to think.

0:07:190:07:21

He needs to not try and force his viewpoint onto me.

0:07:210:07:26

Greg had an uphill struggle on his hands

0:07:270:07:30

if he was to finally make his dream come true.

0:07:300:07:33

This is it, this is like, make or break for me.

0:07:330:07:36

The following week would decide

0:07:360:07:37

where the family would spend the rest of their lives.

0:07:370:07:40

In 2015, the Wallens were living in

0:07:450:07:47

a two-bedroom house in Sheffield.

0:07:470:07:49

We do like living here and we do like the area we're in, but...

0:07:490:07:53

it's just not big enough for our needs any more, we've outgrown it,

0:07:530:07:56

-haven't we?

-Yeah.

0:07:560:07:57

Jenni was fond of an aspect of their current home that

0:07:570:08:00

Greg felt could help his cause.

0:08:000:08:02

I like the open-plan living, I like the fact we've got two toilets.

0:08:020:08:06

You'll like New Zealand then, that's very open-plan living.

0:08:060:08:09

-Yeah, that's good.

-But there could have been a difference of opinion on

0:08:090:08:13

what a Kiwi home had to have.

0:08:130:08:15

At least three bedrooms, two bathrooms,

0:08:150:08:18

preferably one of those is ensuite.

0:08:180:08:20

A wood burner.

0:08:200:08:22

-It's a must.

-We can put one in!

0:08:220:08:24

We can't change sizes of rooms.

0:08:240:08:26

With £250,000 to spend on a Kiwi house,

0:08:300:08:33

we showed the Wallens three properties,

0:08:330:08:36

based on what they wanted

0:08:360:08:37

and what they could afford.

0:08:370:08:39

The search began in Waiuku, close to

0:08:390:08:42

a park and a local primary school,

0:08:420:08:44

this four-bedroom property

0:08:440:08:45

could have been a good fit for the Wallens.

0:08:450:08:48

The house's kerb appeal got the viewing off on the right note.

0:08:480:08:51

-What do you reckon, love?

-It looks very nice.

0:08:510:08:55

Ahh.

0:08:550:08:56

It looked like a good start, until they stepped into the first bedroom.

0:08:560:09:01

-I don't like it.

-Why?

0:09:010:09:03

I reckon the place has got rising damp, it needs a rewire.

0:09:030:09:05

I don't know, I just don't like it - full stop.

0:09:050:09:08

And the next room didn't help, either.

0:09:080:09:11

I don't like the feel of it, Jen.

0:09:110:09:13

We've got to come 12,000 miles, both find new jobs, with two children,

0:09:130:09:18

integrate into life, and then we've got to sort the house out as well.

0:09:180:09:21

So you don't want a renovation project?

0:09:210:09:23

-It's going to be too much for me, Jen.

-OK.

0:09:230:09:26

Two further bedrooms were downstairs.

0:09:260:09:28

Oh, this is nice.

0:09:280:09:30

This is lovely, I like this exposed brick.

0:09:310:09:34

It was an improvement, but Greg's expectations just weren't being met.

0:09:340:09:38

It's just not the image I had in my head of moving to New Zealand,

0:09:380:09:41

it's far from it. This is... Oh, God...

0:09:410:09:44

I'm actually really scared this is not going to work.

0:09:450:09:48

Upstairs, the sitting room showed more promise.

0:09:490:09:52

Well, this is much better.

0:09:520:09:53

It's got the log burner, it's one of your requirements, a log burner.

0:09:530:09:57

-I know, but we're going to need a log burner.

-Was it a log burner you wanted?

-Yes, it was, dear.

-Was it?

0:09:570:10:01

I wasn't quite sure, you've not said it enough!

0:10:010:10:03

And the kitchen also came up trumps.

0:10:030:10:06

-Nice, big kitchen.

-It's nice, isn't it?

0:10:060:10:09

Until electrical engineer Greg spotted some dubious wiring.

0:10:090:10:12

Oh, my God, look at that!

0:10:120:10:16

Back home, that would be uninsurable.

0:10:160:10:18

This house clearly wasn't the one for the Wallens,

0:10:180:10:21

so just how close did it come to the family's £250,000 budget?

0:10:210:10:26

Right, the moment of truth.

0:10:260:10:28

Come on, think positive. £165,000.

0:10:290:10:34

Go on, do it.

0:10:350:10:37

£261,000.

0:10:370:10:40

It was £11,000 over budget.

0:10:410:10:44

-It's looking bleak at least, isn't it?

-I'm glad we're not moving for the house!

0:10:440:10:48

This has made me feel sick with worry about the rest of this week,

0:10:480:10:51

-to be honest.

-But with the price

0:10:510:10:53

of Auckland property hitting home for Greg,

0:10:530:10:55

would the next house be more up his street?

0:10:550:10:58

It was in Pukekohe - a town offering a relaxed way of life,

0:10:580:11:02

yet within an hour's commute of Auckland city centre.

0:11:020:11:05

Wow, look at this front garden!

0:11:060:11:09

I definitely like this area more, it's got a much better view.

0:11:090:11:12

-Inside...

-This is a nice little hall, this feels more modern.

0:11:120:11:17

..Greg's mood continued to life.

0:11:170:11:19

Yeah, this is nice.

0:11:190:11:21

Positive first signs, doesn't feel damp, doesn't feel cold.

0:11:210:11:23

And Evie was happy, too.

0:11:230:11:25

Really, really, really good!

0:11:250:11:28

-Yay!

-This house may have been winning Greg's approval,

0:11:280:11:32

but the floor plan was a stumbling block for Jenni.

0:11:320:11:34

I'm glad there's a third bedroom,

0:11:340:11:36

but I'm not sure how I feel about it being off the dining room.

0:11:360:11:40

And she was no happier in the kitchen.

0:11:400:11:42

I'd redo it.

0:11:420:11:44

The lot?

0:11:440:11:46

-Yeah.

-Really?

0:11:460:11:47

Yeah.

0:11:470:11:48

Outside, the garden didn't impress, either.

0:11:480:11:51

This is a bit pokey, isn't it?

0:11:520:11:54

So basically, the garden for the kids is at the front.

0:11:540:11:57

-It's not enough, is it?

-No.

0:11:580:12:00

The house had won praise and criticism in equal measure,

0:12:000:12:04

but could Greg and Jenni afford it

0:12:040:12:06

with their budget of £250,000?

0:12:060:12:08

For us, to flip that card over

0:12:080:12:10

and keep the dream alive, it's got to be...

0:12:100:12:13

under 200, I'm thinking 180-ish.

0:12:130:12:17

Based on the last property, I'm going to say about 250.

0:12:170:12:20

Go for it.

0:12:240:12:26

251,000.

0:12:280:12:30

It was £1,000 over budget.

0:12:300:12:33

No, absolutely not.

0:12:330:12:35

Maybe I was thinking the grass is definitely greener on the other side.

0:12:350:12:38

Now, I'm kind of like,

0:12:380:12:40

if I'm brutally honest, "Oh, my God, what have I done?"

0:12:400:12:43

The possibility his dream could be slipping away

0:12:430:12:46

proved too much for an emotional Greg.

0:12:460:12:49

The property hunt had brought both doubt and disappointment,

0:12:520:12:56

but there was still one more property to view. Also in Pukekohe,

0:12:560:13:00

we found what we thought could have been Greg and Jenni's dream home.

0:13:000:13:04

Would it be the one to turn around their property fortunes

0:13:040:13:07

and get Greg's dream back on track?

0:13:070:13:09

-Wow.

-OK.

0:13:090:13:11

-This is much better.

-This is much more like what I would like.

0:13:110:13:15

It looked like Greg's expectations were being met at last.

0:13:150:13:19

-This is the image that I had in my head, this is what I wanted you to see, spot-on.

-Lovely.

-Perfect.

0:13:190:13:23

The spacious kitchen with its granite worktops

0:13:250:13:27

had both Greg and Jenni excited.

0:13:270:13:29

That's amazing, isn't it?

0:13:290:13:31

This is such a nice finish.

0:13:310:13:34

-Nicely laid out.

-Nicely laid out, large enough.

0:13:340:13:37

And a second living room hit the spot.

0:13:380:13:41

-This is huge.

-Wow.

0:13:410:13:43

I have noticed the one thing it doesn't have that you wanted...

0:13:430:13:47

-Log burner?

-Yeah.

0:13:470:13:48

I'm willing to sack the log burner off.

0:13:480:13:51

Fair compromise, Greg!

0:13:510:13:53

The first three bedrooms continued to impress.

0:13:530:13:56

-This is nice.

-This is nice.

-I would say I'm sold.

0:13:560:13:58

Well, well yeah, it's a lovely sized room.

0:13:580:14:01

Nice window looking out over the back garden.

0:14:010:14:03

It ticks every box and more.

0:14:030:14:05

But Greg was beginning to worry

0:14:060:14:07

if they could afford to call this house home.

0:14:070:14:10

I've got a feeling we're going to get absolutely smashed on price.

0:14:100:14:13

Money worries seemed a distant memory, though,

0:14:130:14:16

as the master bedroom sealed the deal.

0:14:160:14:18

Oh, this is perfect.

0:14:180:14:20

It was a room that just kept on giving.

0:14:200:14:23

-Walk-in wardrobe...

-A walk-in, not just a built-in!

0:14:230:14:27

Oh, wow.

0:14:270:14:28

Mind-blowing.

0:14:280:14:30

En suite! Oh, this is nice.

0:14:320:14:34

I'm absolutely still speechless!

0:14:340:14:36

It's perfect.

0:14:360:14:38

And outside, the garden was picture perfect.

0:14:380:14:42

That view is stunning.

0:14:420:14:43

This property looked like it could have been

0:14:450:14:48

Greg and Jenni's dream home.

0:14:480:14:50

But was it within reach of their £250,000 budget?

0:14:500:14:54

If we flip this card over now, it comes in £350,000, £400,000...

0:14:540:14:59

If it works out financially and the lifestyle is good...

0:14:590:15:02

-We're on!

-Even if,

0:15:020:15:03

EVEN IF this costs us so much that we couldn't really afford at least

0:15:030:15:08

in the short term to be saving up to go home,

0:15:080:15:12

I like this house so much that I'm thinking...

0:15:120:15:15

-We'll deal with it for the time being.

-We'll deal with it for the time being.

-Right,

0:15:150:15:18

this is it, darling. £400,000!

0:15:180:15:21

£331,000!

0:15:260:15:29

-Really?!

-That is cheap!

0:15:290:15:31

It was £81,000 over budget.

0:15:310:15:34

It's looking positive, at that, isn't it?

0:15:340:15:36

If we can get a decent wage,

0:15:360:15:38

that is all my dreams and more and everything I could ever have hoped for come true.

0:15:380:15:42

Greg was delighted.

0:15:420:15:45

If he could secure the job to pay for this property,

0:15:450:15:48

his dream really could be back on track.

0:15:480:15:51

Property one had caused concern

0:15:510:15:53

with potential damp issues and outdated wiring.

0:15:530:15:56

House number two failed to impress,

0:15:560:15:58

with the garden deemed far too small.

0:15:580:16:01

But property three had raised the bar with wow-factor living areas

0:16:010:16:05

and scenic views.

0:16:050:16:07

So when it came to New Zealand houses,

0:16:070:16:09

did the family vote Home or Away?

0:16:090:16:11

Three, two, one...

0:16:110:16:12

-UK.

-Undecided.

0:16:140:16:15

Where do you want to live?

0:16:170:16:18

Er...

0:16:180:16:19

My house!

0:16:200:16:22

That last house we saw was just ideal.

0:16:230:16:26

And in England, we would never be able to afford that.

0:16:260:16:30

But, if the finances over here means that we could afford that,

0:16:300:16:35

then I would be New Zealand.

0:16:350:16:37

I need to put my thinking, logical head on,

0:16:370:16:40

and my logical head at the moment says to stay in the UK.

0:16:400:16:42

Greg may have found the perfect pad,

0:16:500:16:53

but if the couple were to afford it,

0:16:530:16:55

finding well-paid jobs would be vital.

0:16:550:16:58

Back in the UK, Greg was an electrical engineer,

0:16:590:17:03

running his own business fitting and testing electrical safety equipment.

0:17:030:17:07

Absolutely love it.

0:17:070:17:09

Used to work for a company which I enjoyed, but I thought,

0:17:090:17:12

"I can do better on my own".

0:17:120:17:14

And business at the moment is really, really busy.

0:17:140:17:16

I'm currently booked out for the next sort of three months solid.

0:17:160:17:18

But in New Zealand, he was keen to become an employee again,

0:17:180:17:22

hoping that would improve his work-life balance.

0:17:220:17:25

I hope kind of to work around the 40-50 hours a week in New Zealand

0:17:250:17:29

for a company, weekends and evenings off, ideally,

0:17:290:17:32

so I can get some more time with my family,

0:17:320:17:34

which I currently don't have, always.

0:17:340:17:36

Jenni worked as a social worker dealing with child protection.

0:17:360:17:41

I love, in my job, the thought of helping people.

0:17:410:17:44

I'm helping children to make sure that they have the greatest start in

0:17:440:17:49

-life they can.

-To sign off on a move,

0:17:490:17:52

she'd need to be sure her career prospects wouldn't be hindered.

0:17:520:17:56

The next step forward, if I was to remain in the UK,

0:17:560:17:58

would be looking at a management role.

0:17:580:18:00

And that's what I would be looking for maybe in New Zealand.

0:18:000:18:04

The couple set off to investigate their work prospects down under.

0:18:060:18:10

First up, Greg met Dave Burt,

0:18:100:18:12

who ran an electrical company fitting out a new housing complex.

0:18:120:18:16

This here is a block of probably the first 15 apartments that we've just

0:18:180:18:20

-started pre-wiring.

-Greg wanted to know what his chances of finding a job might be.

0:18:200:18:25

I would say that a qualified electrician is normally never out

0:18:250:18:29

-of work. A good one is never out of work.

-It was a positive start.

0:18:290:18:33

What about the all-important work-life balance?

0:18:330:18:36

-Generally it's a 40-hour week...

-Yeah.

0:18:360:18:38

..but because most of the guys work a nine to ten-hour day, you know,

0:18:380:18:42

you can easily knock on 50 hours per week.

0:18:420:18:45

The hours were what Greg had hoped for,

0:18:450:18:47

but what about the bottom line on his potential earnings?

0:18:470:18:51

Between the 60s, and you could easily go up into the 80-plus.

0:18:510:18:54

At around £35,000,

0:18:540:18:57

that was about £10,000 more than Greg currently earned at home.

0:18:570:19:01

That's good. That's a bit more kind of what I was hoping for.

0:19:010:19:04

Encouraging news for Greg.

0:19:040:19:06

Across town, Jenni was visiting

0:19:060:19:08

a charity providing social work services.

0:19:080:19:11

Senior manager Elizabeth Walker

0:19:110:19:13

gave her the lowdown on what her prospects might be.

0:19:130:19:17

So you would come in at a senior practitioner level.

0:19:170:19:20

It starts at 53 and moves up to around 63, the mid-60s.

0:19:200:19:25

Even at the top of the bracket,

0:19:250:19:26

Jenni would have seen her income fall from around 31 to £27,000.

0:19:260:19:32

How sought-after are social work roles?

0:19:320:19:35

It has become extremely competitive.

0:19:350:19:38

My last recruitment effort, we had one social work vacancy,

0:19:380:19:42

we had 72 applicants.

0:19:420:19:44

Catching up with Greg, Jenni broke the bad news.

0:19:440:19:47

I wouldn't be earning as much as we thought, basically.

0:19:480:19:52

It wasn't what Greg had been hoping to hear.

0:19:520:19:55

But his prospects softened the blow.

0:19:550:19:57

I'd be looking at about 60-65,000.

0:19:570:19:59

If I did overtime, I'd be looking at about 80,000.

0:19:590:20:03

So actually, in one respect,

0:20:030:20:05

it's not as good news for me, but it's much better news for you

0:20:050:20:08

-in terms of finances.

-Yes.

0:20:080:20:10

So after a day of mixed fortunes,

0:20:110:20:14

how did the couple vote when it came

0:20:140:20:16

to work in New Zealand versus the UK?

0:20:160:20:18

BOTH: New Zealand!

0:20:230:20:25

Your news actually makes me think, well,

0:20:250:20:28

maybe I could be the one who works part-time,

0:20:280:20:31

and you could be the one to work full-time.

0:20:310:20:34

I'd have to do a few more hours than I was hoping to,

0:20:340:20:36

but we've always done what we have to do to make it work.

0:20:360:20:39

After a shaky start to the week, a vote for New Zealand from Jenni,

0:20:460:20:51

despite a drop in salary,

0:20:510:20:52

meant Greg's dream could have been back on track.

0:20:520:20:56

New Zealand's famed for its family-friendly lifestyle,

0:20:560:20:59

so would a day sampling some of Auckland's activities

0:20:590:21:02

land another vote in his favour?

0:21:020:21:04

The family kicked things off with a visit to a French market

0:21:040:21:07

in Parnell, just east of the city centre.

0:21:070:21:10

It's been voted one of Auckland's best food markets,

0:21:100:21:13

and they soon tucked in.

0:21:130:21:15

-Mozzarella.

-Mozzarella?

0:21:150:21:17

Mm, that's nice!

0:21:170:21:18

It was the kind of family day out Greg was hoping could be a regular

0:21:210:21:24

-occurrence.

-Today's going absolutely swimmingly.

0:21:240:21:27

Seeing Evie here in New Zealand and how she's been the last couple of

0:21:270:21:30

days, wow, you know, it's tears of happiness, not sadness.

0:21:300:21:34

Seeing your children happy makes me happy.

0:21:340:21:37

And the market was a place

0:21:380:21:40

Jenni could imagine making a regular haunt.

0:21:400:21:42

Come here, have breakfast, get some fresh produce...

0:21:430:21:47

some wine and champagne to go in our hot tub

0:21:470:21:50

that we're going to have out the back of our house!

0:21:500:21:53

-Are you...

-Why am I trying to convince you?

0:21:540:21:56

I know! Are you beginning to change your mind a little bit? This is good, this is progress.

0:21:560:21:59

INDISTINCT

0:21:590:22:01

Next stop, a trip to Auckland Zoo,

0:22:030:22:06

where Evie soon displayed her wildlife knowledge.

0:22:060:22:09

Ostrich!

0:22:090:22:10

Penguins. Look, zebra poo!

0:22:110:22:15

Oh, dear me!

0:22:150:22:16

Thinking of Evie's future,

0:22:160:22:18

Jenni's view on moving to New Zealand seemed to be softening.

0:22:180:22:22

Evie is loving New Zealand.

0:22:220:22:25

And I think I am starting to feel

0:22:250:22:27

very much that this would be ideal for her and for our other child.

0:22:270:22:32

And Greg was beginning to feel confident his wife could be coming round.

0:22:320:22:36

As the week has gone on, she's become more and more towards New Zealand.

0:22:360:22:41

I reckon the dream's still alive.

0:22:410:22:43

I kind of feel it's job almost done, but not quite there.

0:22:430:22:46

I've still got a little bit of apprehension.

0:22:460:22:48

Leaving loved ones, though,

0:22:490:22:51

could still have been an issue for both of them.

0:22:510:22:53

Mum's kind of been really, really supportive about the whole thing.

0:22:530:22:56

She keeps saying, you know, "We're only a day away, worst case scenario".

0:22:560:23:00

Wow!

0:23:000:23:02

You know, I need to do what's best for my family.

0:23:020:23:04

And ultimately, that's what I need to do.

0:23:040:23:06

It's very easy to get caught up in the whole lifestyle,

0:23:060:23:09

"Wouldn't this be great, wouldn't this be brilliant for us and for Evie?"

0:23:090:23:14

But I've not yet really started to think about

0:23:140:23:17

the impact of leaving family and friends.

0:23:170:23:20

The day out had given the family food for thought.

0:23:220:23:24

So, did the lifestyle in New Zealand prove a winner for Greg and Jenni?

0:23:250:23:30

Time to vote!

0:23:310:23:32

-New Zealand!

-New Zealand!

-New Zealand!

0:23:400:23:43

Good girl!

0:23:430:23:44

We've not been constantly worrying about the weather,

0:23:440:23:47

even though we're in autumn, nearly winter over here.

0:23:470:23:49

And it's not been too costly.

0:23:490:23:51

You can't fault this, can we?

0:23:510:23:52

Can't fault it. Can't fault it, it's beautiful.

0:23:520:23:54

With two votes from Jenni for New Zealand,

0:24:010:24:03

it looked like Greg's dream was almost within reach.

0:24:030:24:07

But for it to stand any chance of becoming reality,

0:24:070:24:10

it was vital the finances stacked up.

0:24:100:24:13

The couple thought their house in the UK was worth around £110,000.

0:24:130:24:18

Did two local estate agents agree?

0:24:180:24:20

Nice open plan living space.

0:24:200:24:23

Neutrally decorated.

0:24:230:24:24

Nice windows that overlook the garden.

0:24:240:24:26

The kitchen looks well looked after, and also nice and modern as well.

0:24:260:24:30

So it's a nice, low-maintenance garden with the access out to your rear parking.

0:24:310:24:35

Good sized bathroom, and again, another contemporary look.

0:24:350:24:39

I'll fix the bath now!

0:24:390:24:41

In today's market, I'd value this property at a guide price of 110 to

0:24:420:24:45

£120,000.

0:24:450:24:47

For a quick sale, I'd value the property at £105,000.

0:24:470:24:51

In today's market,

0:24:510:24:52

I'd value this house at around about 110,000.

0:24:520:24:55

If the owners wanted a quick sale,

0:24:550:24:56

then I'd suggest a price between 100,000 and 105,000.

0:24:560:25:00

-I'm not shocked about that.

-No shocks, I'm quite happy with that as well.

0:25:000:25:03

With the valuations on target,

0:25:050:25:07

the couple moved on to examine

0:25:070:25:09

how their finances would fare in New Zealand.

0:25:090:25:12

We provided a comparison of costs,

0:25:120:25:15

starting with the weekly food shop.

0:25:150:25:17

Ketchup, £1.23.

0:25:180:25:20

Meatballs, £2 - she's not going to be having THEM any more!

0:25:200:25:23

Which means it's £57.27 dearer.

0:25:230:25:26

Over £200 more per month

0:25:260:25:28

was double what the family currently spent on food,

0:25:280:25:31

but Greg wasn't daunted.

0:25:310:25:33

It's more, but it's not terrible,

0:25:340:25:36

is it, if we're honest with ourselves?

0:25:360:25:38

Well, we need to put it into context with wages.

0:25:380:25:41

Looking at the bigger bills,

0:25:410:25:42

Greg and Jenni based their sums on the dream house they'd seen.

0:25:420:25:46

GREG WHISTLES

0:25:460:25:47

Sorry, that's just jumped straight out at me, the cost of the mortgage,

0:25:470:25:50

-compared to at home.

-Yes.

0:25:500:25:52

That's...

0:25:520:25:53

That's a biggie.

0:25:530:25:54

-Phone/internet, £20 at home.

-Yep.

0:25:540:25:58

£40 here.

0:25:580:26:00

What's the difference? £1,796.

0:26:020:26:05

Yep.

0:26:050:26:07

In total, the couple discovered they would spend

0:26:070:26:10

around £1,800 per month more in New Zealand.

0:26:100:26:13

And taking their potential wages into account

0:26:130:26:16

only improved things slightly.

0:26:160:26:19

-We're £654...

-Worse off.

0:26:190:26:22

The couple would have been almost £8,000 per year worse off

0:26:220:26:25

IF they made the move.

0:26:250:26:27

But while Jenni wasn't impressed,

0:26:270:26:29

Greg wasn't giving up.

0:26:290:26:31

-I don't think that's bad.

-Basically, we'd have to go for a house

0:26:310:26:35

which was like property one or two.

0:26:350:26:38

Yes, but it wouldn't be forever, would it?

0:26:380:26:41

But when it came to voting on finances in New Zealand versus the UK,

0:26:410:26:45

was the compromise one they'd both be happy to make?

0:26:450:26:48

-UK.

-UK.

0:26:540:26:55

-Are you a bit gutted about that?

-Massively.

0:26:570:27:00

We probably could still make it work financially,

0:27:000:27:03

but I think it would be more of a struggle.

0:27:030:27:06

I'm not going to lie, after seeing that, I am questioning myself.

0:27:060:27:09

That's massive, for me.

0:27:090:27:11

While New Zealand's lifestyle had been everything Greg remembered,

0:27:140:27:18

achieving the life he dreamed of would have required significant

0:27:180:27:21

sacrifice. And the emotional cost of emigrating could still prove

0:27:210:27:26

the biggest barrier to a move.

0:27:260:27:28

With Evie looked after by a childminder,

0:27:280:27:30

the couple sat down to watch messages from home.

0:27:300:27:33

Hi, Jenni, hi, Greg.

0:27:330:27:34

I hope you're having a wonderful time in New Zealand.

0:27:340:27:37

Hi, Jenni, Greg.

0:27:370:27:38

Hello, Auntie Jenni and Uncle Greg.

0:27:380:27:40

Hiya, guys, I hope you've had a good week.

0:27:400:27:43

On the whole, they seem to be...

0:27:430:27:45

..a match made in heaven.

0:27:470:27:48

Hilarious is the word to me that sums Jenni up.

0:27:480:27:51

She's got a lot of friends, she's sociable, she's popular.

0:27:510:27:54

He's very much a family man.

0:27:540:27:57

Family's really important.

0:28:020:28:03

Evie's a really bubbly little girl.

0:28:030:28:06

My granddaughter,

0:28:060:28:08

I do spoil her.

0:28:080:28:11

But if they go, I'll miss her.

0:28:110:28:13

If they left, I think it would leave a big hole...

0:28:160:28:19

..in everybody's life, not just in mine.

0:28:200:28:22

Obviously, yeah, it would be a massive wrench,

0:28:220:28:24

because you've got my mum and dad,

0:28:240:28:26

then you've got me and Jenni.

0:28:260:28:28

The family would be halved because my sister's gone,

0:28:280:28:31

so it would just be me and my kids.

0:28:310:28:33

You make a decision based on what you think is best for you and your

0:28:330:28:37

family. We'll always love you, and we'll always be here for you.

0:28:370:28:41

We'll all really miss you,

0:28:430:28:44

we'll miss the times that we spend together.

0:28:440:28:46

We'll miss seeing Evie grow up.

0:28:460:28:48

We know that all your other friends will feel the same,

0:28:480:28:52

but you've got to do what's right for you.

0:28:520:28:54

You know that I love you, you know that I'll support you.

0:28:540:28:57

But please make the decision which is right for you.

0:28:580:29:01

It's really making the question whether I've got...

0:29:050:29:07

..the guts to...

0:29:080:29:11

go through with it.

0:29:110:29:12

We are going to have to be very selfish

0:29:120:29:15

when we make that decision and not

0:29:150:29:17

think about others, because I think if we thought about others,

0:29:170:29:20

the answer would fairly clearly be, "No, we're not going".

0:29:200:29:23

Greg's long-held dream was hanging in the balance

0:29:280:29:30

as the couple faced the biggest decision of their lives.

0:29:300:29:34

The trial week had more than lived up to Greg's bachelor day memories.

0:29:350:29:39

It's infinitely better in my opinion

0:29:390:29:41

than what we would have back in the UK.

0:29:410:29:43

And despite her initial reluctance,

0:29:430:29:45

a taste of what New Zealand could offer had also appealed to Jenni.

0:29:450:29:49

The experience I've had this week that has won me over the most...

0:29:490:29:53

is...

0:29:530:29:55

is the lifestyle.

0:29:550:29:57

But their week had also shown

0:29:570:29:58

the reality of everyday life in New Zealand

0:29:580:30:01

hadn't been quite what Greg had envisaged.

0:30:010:30:03

I'm not going to lie, I thought we'd fare a lot better than we did.

0:30:030:30:07

He is having to come to terms with the fact that things aren't as

0:30:070:30:10

picture-perfect as he initially thought out here.

0:30:100:30:14

Greg was also struggling to come to terms with leaving family behind.

0:30:140:30:18

I know that I need to make the decision for my family,

0:30:180:30:21

but, you know...

0:30:210:30:23

I kind of care about everyone else, as well.

0:30:250:30:27

As the final vote inched closer,

0:30:270:30:30

the couple wrestled with emotional turmoil.

0:30:300:30:33

I can feel it, I can feel an internal conflict,

0:30:330:30:36

of arguing with myself over it.

0:30:360:30:39

I'm playing with the rest of my family's life.

0:30:390:30:41

With one final turn of the cards,

0:30:410:30:44

it was time to find out if Jenni would green-light Greg's dream.

0:30:440:30:47

-New Zealand!

-New Zealand.

0:30:580:31:00

Home!

0:31:010:31:02

There's some negatives, but there's also a lot of positives and I think

0:31:020:31:06

that we've got to give it a try,

0:31:060:31:08

because I think otherwise we'll always be wondering, "What if?"

0:31:080:31:11

This is all my birthdays, all my Christmases,

0:31:110:31:15

everything I've wanted since I came back.

0:31:150:31:18

The week had given Greg the result he was hoping for

0:31:260:31:29

and with Jenni signed up to the move, it looked like he could be

0:31:290:31:32

on his way back to New Zealand soon.

0:31:320:31:35

We visited them one year later,

0:31:350:31:37

to find out where in the world they are now.

0:31:370:31:40

It's September 2016

0:31:410:31:43

and the Wallen family are living in...Sheffield in the UK,

0:31:430:31:48

and after Jenni's terrible sickness en route to New Zealand for the

0:31:480:31:51

trial week, the latest addition to their family has happily arrived.

0:31:510:31:55

Ethan was born on the 15th of September 2015.

0:31:550:31:59

Ahh, cuddles.

0:32:030:32:06

It was a very quick birth, which I was very pleased about.

0:32:060:32:09

Fortunately for everyone,

0:32:100:32:12

the baby slotted into family life pretty swiftly, too.

0:32:120:32:16

He's such an easy-going child, he's so happy.

0:32:160:32:18

Clap, clap!

0:32:180:32:21

Clap, clap.

0:32:210:32:22

He's an absolute joy.

0:32:230:32:25

What would you like, then, you want chocolate spread on bread?

0:32:250:32:28

Yes, please!

0:32:280:32:30

Big sister Evie couldn't agree more.

0:32:300:32:33

I love my baby brother because he's cuddly

0:32:330:32:36

and very funny.

0:32:360:32:38

He really has completed our family, hasn't he?

0:32:380:32:40

Yeah. Yeah, he was definitely like the missing, the missing piece.

0:32:400:32:44

With the new addition, it's been a busy few months.

0:32:450:32:49

In a lot of respects life's gone on as normal,

0:32:490:32:51

but in other respects, it's completely changed.

0:32:510:32:54

Obviously the birth of Ethan was kind of, that's a massive,

0:32:550:32:58

massive change for anyone.

0:32:580:33:00

Feed my baby...

0:33:000:33:02

What are you going to do your baby for breakfast?

0:33:020:33:04

Now, I'm going to feed you some water and wee your nappy.

0:33:040:33:07

While the subject of emigrating to New Zealand has been an ongoing

0:33:070:33:11

conversation, and the pair can still vividly recall their trial week

0:33:110:33:15

-down under.

-Definitely lived up to my expectations,

0:33:150:33:18

in the fact of how clean it was, how nice the people were and, you know,

0:33:180:33:22

just what a genuinely great place it was to live.

0:33:220:33:26

Despite its ups and downs,

0:33:260:33:28

the week had opened Jenni's eyes to the possibilities of a move.

0:33:280:33:32

It really did help me to...

0:33:320:33:34

..envisage whether we could actually live out there and have a good life.

0:33:360:33:40

Her vote for New Zealand, in the end,

0:33:400:33:42

felt like a dream come true for Greg.

0:33:420:33:45

All my Christmases come at once, all my birthdays come at once,

0:33:450:33:48

I was like, "Right, we've cracked it".

0:33:480:33:50

After a brief stay with some friends,

0:33:500:33:53

Greg and Jenni left New Zealand

0:33:530:33:54

convinced it was only a matter of time

0:33:540:33:56

before they returned to make it their home.

0:33:560:33:59

We got back, told all our friends we all voted yes, we're going to do it,

0:33:590:34:04

we're going to start getting plans in place.

0:34:040:34:06

The couple agreed they would stay in the UK

0:34:060:34:08

until after the baby was born,

0:34:080:34:10

which turned out to be the right move

0:34:100:34:12

as Jenni's pregnancy wasn't all plain sailing.

0:34:120:34:15

I started to feel increasingly unwell.

0:34:170:34:20

She had the most terrible morning sickness...

0:34:200:34:22

Well, I say morning sickness,

0:34:220:34:24

it was just all-day, all-night sickness.

0:34:240:34:26

She really, really struggled.

0:34:260:34:28

You slept for a little bit?

0:34:280:34:29

A little time.

0:34:290:34:31

Only about 20 minutes.

0:34:310:34:33

Fortunately, friends and family rallied round.

0:34:330:34:36

With childcare, coming to see me,

0:34:360:34:40

keeping things stable and secure for Evie.

0:34:400:34:44

Greg was grateful for the support,

0:34:440:34:46

and the experience left him contemplating the reality of leaving

0:34:460:34:50

loved ones if they moved to the other side of the world.

0:34:500:34:54

The whole thing was made massively easier with the support that we had

0:34:540:34:58

from friends and family at that point.

0:34:580:35:00

You're going to mess up the carpet.

0:35:000:35:02

'And without having...that,

0:35:020:35:06

'we would have struggled a lot more.'

0:35:060:35:08

As the weeks went by,

0:35:090:35:10

Greg also began to have more practical doubts

0:35:100:35:13

about the cost of making his dream move.

0:35:130:35:16

When you started working out the finances of moving and the money

0:35:160:35:19

you'd be earning out there, it just wasn't really a viable option.

0:35:190:35:23

We started talking about pushing it back further and further...

0:35:240:35:27

..until finally Greg kind of admitted

0:35:290:35:31

that actually, he wasn't so committed

0:35:310:35:35

to the idea of going any more.

0:35:350:35:38

After all his efforts to get Jenni on board,

0:35:380:35:41

Greg had lost faith in his own dream.

0:35:410:35:44

My heart was saying this is a perfect place to raise my family,

0:35:440:35:47

and then my head's kind of pulling me in the other direction, saying,

0:35:470:35:50

"Well, is it really going to work?"

0:35:500:35:54

You know, you need at least one of you to be really positive

0:35:540:35:58

and focused and want to do it.

0:35:580:36:00

But if you're both sat there saying, "Ooh, I'm not sure,"

0:36:010:36:05

then it's probably not the best decision.

0:36:050:36:07

Letting go of the dream wasn't easy.

0:36:090:36:11

It was quite a heart-wrench, it was tough,

0:36:140:36:16

it was actually really tough to sort of...

0:36:160:36:18

..sort of digest that.

0:36:190:36:21

In my quality of life perspective,

0:36:210:36:23

New Zealand would be infinitely better than we have here in the UK,

0:36:230:36:26

however, unfortunately, as with life, you need money to back this.

0:36:260:36:30

Despite their plans not working out as hoped,

0:36:310:36:34

it's fair to say the Wallens' time down under

0:36:340:36:37

has inspired Greg and Jenni to make

0:36:370:36:39

some really positive changes to their lives in the UK.

0:36:390:36:42

The trial week has really, really helped us to adjust

0:36:440:36:48

and to start focusing

0:36:480:36:50

on what's important in life.

0:36:500:36:52

Greg has started to realise that...

0:36:520:36:55

..he doesn't need to work all the hours,

0:36:560:36:58

that it is just important to have family time.

0:36:580:37:01

What colour would you like to be, Daddy?

0:37:010:37:03

Yellow, please.

0:37:030:37:04

I go first!

0:37:040:37:06

-One, two.

-Thank you.

0:37:070:37:09

It's made me think the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

0:37:090:37:14

There's things here that I think as a family we can adapt to make things

0:37:140:37:19

better here to what I thought it would've been like in New Zealand.

0:37:190:37:23

Three.

0:37:230:37:25

That's rubbish again, I'm back on it!

0:37:250:37:27

One, two, three...

0:37:270:37:29

Oh, Daddy got a ladder!

0:37:290:37:31

I'm not playing!

0:37:310:37:33

Since spending more time together in New Zealand,

0:37:350:37:38

and then since we've got back,

0:37:380:37:40

we started to set up a few routines for ourselves.

0:37:400:37:43

So we'll have...

0:37:430:37:44

Evie and Greg will go out for an afternoon once a month,

0:37:440:37:48

myself and Evie will go out for an afternoon once a month

0:37:480:37:51

and then once a month, we'll all go out together as a family.

0:37:510:37:54

I feel better in myself as a father

0:37:540:37:56

and as a husband than I did before and I think that was also maybe,

0:37:560:37:59

like, another missing piece to the family puzzle.

0:37:590:38:02

Having moved from Devon to be with Jenni, Greg had found himself often

0:38:060:38:10

feeling isolated and lonely in Sheffield.

0:38:100:38:12

But taking up a new hobby has proven

0:38:120:38:14

a positive step in the right direction.

0:38:140:38:17

I've taken up boxing now.

0:38:190:38:21

So that plays quite a large role in my life and I really enjoy it.

0:38:210:38:25

All the guys at the gym that I've met have been so welcoming and I've made some really good friends.

0:38:250:38:29

Keep it nice and long on the jabs, yeah?

0:38:320:38:35

Greg's feeling a lot more settled.

0:38:370:38:39

He's really started to forge some links, some relationships here.

0:38:400:38:44

He looked almost like, gaunt, like he had...

0:38:440:38:46

-Yeah.

-Like his cheeks were, like, dead.

0:38:460:38:48

-Yeah, you could see it, couldn't you? Now, he...

-Looks natural, yeah.

0:38:480:38:52

I kind of feel more cemented here in the UK.

0:38:520:38:55

Having my outlet in boxing...

0:38:550:38:57

..I have my life as me as well as my life as a husband,

0:38:580:39:02

my life as a business owner and my life as a father.

0:39:020:39:05

No, you're the scaredy-cat.

0:39:080:39:09

-Alfie!

-And there are some more changes on the horizon.

0:39:090:39:13

Now a family of four,

0:39:130:39:15

life's proving a bit of a squeeze in their two-bedroom home.

0:39:150:39:18

When it was just me, Jen and Evie, it was kind of just about doable.

0:39:180:39:22

But kind of my work office space

0:39:230:39:25

is now kind of in our bedroom, so it's all a little bit cramped.

0:39:250:39:28

I get annoyed at Jen because she chucks clothes on my desk

0:39:280:39:31

and I'm trying to work and stuff like that,

0:39:310:39:33

so it's a bit tight, so we've decided we need to move.

0:39:330:39:36

We are now...

0:39:360:39:37

..just about in a position in the next few months or so to be moving.

0:39:380:39:44

Buying a house together, our family home.

0:39:440:39:47

As far as the right house in the UK goes, Jen would be able to list a

0:39:480:39:52

million and one things of what she wants from a house.

0:39:520:39:54

More space.

0:39:540:39:56

More rooms.

0:39:560:39:57

Children can have a room that we can shut the door on them,

0:39:570:39:59

adults can have a lovely lounge,

0:39:590:40:01

which isn't constantly full of toys.

0:40:010:40:04

I don't really get a lot of choice in the matter, to be honest,

0:40:040:40:06

I'll just be the one that's probably paying for it!

0:40:060:40:09

But I'm sure it's going to be a hell of a lot easier to make that move

0:40:090:40:12

as a family here in the UK, than it is to a certain extent

0:40:120:40:16

go it alone in New Zealand so I think, once again,

0:40:160:40:18

100%, right decision.

0:40:180:40:20

Come to Grandma.

0:40:200:40:21

Deciding to stay in the UK has been welcome news for loved ones.

0:40:230:40:27

We're very happy to see them stay.

0:40:300:40:32

I mean, we've got a beautiful new grandson

0:40:320:40:35

who we're just getting to know.

0:40:350:40:37

Hi, Grandad!

0:40:370:40:38

I welcome it and it gives us extra time with the two children.

0:40:400:40:45

Peepo!

0:40:450:40:46

Peepo!

0:40:480:40:49

Peepo!

0:40:490:40:51

They are very happy and they were all saying,

0:40:510:40:54

"Oh, well, we're really glad.

0:40:540:40:57

"We wouldn't have wanted you to go,

0:40:570:40:59

"we would have supported it, but we wouldn't have wanted you to have."

0:40:590:41:03

And now they just ignore it like it's never actually happened.

0:41:030:41:06

-Cartwheels!

-However,

0:41:090:41:11

the door's not completely shut on the down under dream.

0:41:110:41:15

Having had a taste of what New Zealand can offer,

0:41:150:41:18

Jenni is keen to keep the option open for the future.

0:41:180:41:21

Ethan!

0:41:210:41:23

In my head, it is only a postponement.

0:41:240:41:27

If I think about us never going to New Zealand...

0:41:270:41:30

..I do get quite sad.

0:41:310:41:34

Jenni's hoping they might revisit the idea in five years' time,

0:41:370:41:41

but with their full and busy life in the UK,

0:41:410:41:43

Greg's more than happy to stay settled in Sheffield for the foreseeable future.

0:41:430:41:48

-Auntie Claire's going to get her shoes.

-Come on.

0:41:480:41:51

I get the occasional moment where I think,

0:41:560:41:59

"Oh, have made the right decision or have I not?"

0:41:590:42:02

And then I quite often sort of set my mind back to when we kind of did

0:42:020:42:07

the reality check out there in New Zealand and we had the prices and everything,

0:42:070:42:10

what it would cost to eat, what it would cost to live.
