Convincing your family to up sticks

0:00:020:00:04

and move to the other side of the world is a tough enough task,

0:00:040:00:09

but if a previous attempt had ended in a failure of epic proportions,

0:00:090:00:13

could you pick yourself up, dust yourself down

0:00:130:00:16

and convince your family to put everything on the line

0:00:160:00:19

for a second time?

0:00:190:00:21

Following a serious of hard knocks,

0:00:210:00:23

Jon Lawrence is desperate for a new life in New Zealand.

0:00:230:00:26

I didn't choose New Zealand, it chose me.

0:00:260:00:29

My decision has been made for the last five years.

0:00:290:00:32

But with one failed attempt at migrating...

0:00:320:00:35

I was in New Zealand for two hours before I booked my return ticket.

0:00:350:00:39

..his wife can't face putting everything on the line again.

0:00:390:00:42

I cannot go through the turmoil.

0:00:420:00:44

I can't do it.

0:00:440:00:46

While a trial week shows the merits of a move...

0:00:460:00:48

This would be a nice house to live in, wouldn't it?

0:00:480:00:51

..it could mean the end of Jon's dream.

0:00:510:00:53

I've got two people in tears here

0:00:530:00:55

who probably mean more than the dream.

0:00:550:00:57

Lying in the temperate south-west Pacific,

0:01:220:01:25

most of New Zealand enjoys at least 2,000 hours of sunshine every year.

0:01:250:01:29

With jaw-dropping scenery, thanks to its mountains, glaciers,

0:01:340:01:37

volcanoes and beaches, it's a popular choice with Brits

0:01:370:01:40

looking to start a new life overseas.

0:01:400:01:43

And more than a quarter of the migrant population

0:01:430:01:45

hail from the UK and Ireland.

0:01:450:01:47

Jon Lawrence's first bid for a new life in New Zealand

0:01:500:01:54

ended in disaster when he was forced to fly home

0:01:540:01:57

after just one day on Kiwi soil.

0:01:570:01:59

Now he's considering making the move for a second time.

0:01:590:02:04

But with one last shot at persuading his wife and children

0:02:040:02:07

the countries where they should be living,

0:02:070:02:09

will it be a case of once bitten, twice shy?

0:02:090:02:12

The Lawrences trial week begins with over 24 hours in the air,

0:02:140:02:17

travelling from London to New Zealand's capital Wellington

0:02:170:02:20

via Dubai and Sydney.

0:02:200:02:22

A somewhat bumpy flight has proved too much

0:02:290:02:32

for a rather pale-looking Jon and his sensitive tummy.

0:02:320:02:35

Somewhere in the Tasman Strait is probably my stomach.

0:02:350:02:38

If anybody actually finds it, I'd be grateful

0:02:380:02:41

if they would hand it back.

0:02:410:02:43

Hayden and Austen have just one thing on their minds.

0:02:440:02:48

I'm looking forward to sleeping.

0:02:480:02:50

Mum Kerry-Ann is keeping an open mind about the week ahead.

0:02:500:02:54

-We're not sure what to expect, are we?

-No.

0:02:540:02:56

So, it'll be full of surprises.

0:02:560:02:58

Hopefully nice ones.

0:02:580:03:00

Jon will need to make a quick recovery if he's to set to work

0:03:000:03:03

convincing his family New Zealand is where their future lies.

0:03:030:03:07

Jon Lawrence lives with his wife Kerry-Ann and their two sons,

0:03:110:03:15

Hayden, who's ten, and eight-year-old Austen, in Norfolk.

0:03:150:03:18

Jon and Kerry-Ann were teenage sweethearts.

0:03:180:03:22

-We met at school.

-Yeah.

-We met...

0:03:220:03:25

1993. And we've been together ever since then.

0:03:250:03:28

We had lots of laughs. We still have lots of laughs. That's what's great.

0:03:280:03:31

Lots of hassles, but we do have lots of laughs.

0:03:310:03:34

And then 9/11 happened and...

0:03:340:03:36

our whole world sort of turned upside down, really.

0:03:360:03:39

The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center

0:03:420:03:45

killed nearly 3,000 people.

0:03:450:03:47

One of the victims was a close friend of Jon's.

0:03:470:03:49

Well, her name was Kylie and she was a friend of the family

0:03:510:03:55

and, you know, we were very close. She was a lovely, lovely person.

0:03:550:03:58

It did hit him hard, really. It did hit him hard.

0:04:010:04:04

Losing Kylie wasn't the only tragedy to befall the family.

0:04:040:04:08

Just over a year after 9/11,

0:04:080:04:10

my mother suffered a very serious stroke.

0:04:100:04:13

And then in the March following that, I had a miscarriage.

0:04:130:04:17

That was really, really hard as well.

0:04:170:04:19

Deeply trying years took their toll and Jon developed depression.

0:04:190:04:24

You know, it was a very difficult couple of years

0:04:240:04:26

and I started to get lower and lower and lower.

0:04:260:04:29

It was watching him go through it every day...

0:04:290:04:31

Sorry.

0:04:330:04:34

It was tough.

0:04:370:04:39

Yeah.

0:04:400:04:41

Suffering from stress and anxiety, Jon started to look for

0:04:410:04:46

a new beginning away from the pressures of the UK.

0:04:460:04:49

His research led him to New Zealand.

0:04:490:04:52

I didn't choose New Zealand, it chose me.

0:04:520:04:54

I was attracted to the landscape.

0:04:540:04:56

I was attracted to its physical beauty.

0:04:560:04:58

I was attracted to its culture, the Maori culture.

0:04:580:05:01

In 2010, Jon applied for and was offered a teaching job

0:05:010:05:04

in the country.

0:05:040:05:06

The whole family took a trip to New Zealand to discover

0:05:060:05:09

if everything he'd read about the land was true.

0:05:090:05:11

We went from Auckland all the way down to Wellington.

0:05:180:05:21

And we'd go, "Wow."

0:05:210:05:22

And then you'd go round the next corner, and you'd say, "Wow!"

0:05:220:05:26

You'd think, "How many more wows can I have?"

0:05:260:05:29

Jon was smitten and the move was on,

0:05:290:05:31

with him heading out first to set up home ahead of the others' arrival.

0:05:310:05:36

-Everything about it stressed me out, didn't it?

-Yeah.

0:05:360:05:39

Selling the house, packing everything up

0:05:390:05:41

and getting it over there.

0:05:410:05:43

I had a leaving party.

0:05:430:05:45

-I'd said goodbye to all my friends...

-Your family.

-..my family.

0:05:450:05:50

I said goodbye to Kerry-Ann and the kids.

0:05:500:05:52

It was very, very difficult.

0:05:520:05:54

Everything was going to plan until Jon handed over his passport

0:05:540:05:59

at the immigration desk in New Zealand.

0:05:590:06:01

The gentleman said... Asked me to see my paperwork.

0:06:010:06:05

And they said, "Well, it's not all in order.

0:06:050:06:07

"You shouldn't be here."

0:06:070:06:09

It was a huge shock.

0:06:090:06:11

Jon discovered he didn't have the correct visa

0:06:110:06:13

for working in the country.

0:06:130:06:15

I was in New Zealand for a grand total of...

0:06:150:06:19

two hours before I booked my return ticket.

0:06:190:06:23

-I was just angry at myself.

-Yeah.

-I was livid that I'd been so stupid.

0:06:230:06:28

Yeah.

0:06:280:06:29

On returning to the UK, the fallout from the failed move was massive.

0:06:290:06:33

By this point, he'd got no job, he'd got no car, I'd got no job

0:06:330:06:37

because I'd handed my notice in.

0:06:370:06:38

It was a pretty dreadful time.

0:06:380:06:40

Over the last five years, the family have slowly rebuilt their lives.

0:06:460:06:50

But despite everything they've been through, Jon's dream hasn't died.

0:06:500:06:55

I still have it in my head and my heart that...

0:06:550:06:58

that it would be a great place for the kids.

0:06:580:07:01

They would be so happy in that kind of environment

0:07:010:07:04

where there's a lot of outdoor stuff going on.

0:07:040:07:07

Still bearing the scars of the first failed attempt,

0:07:070:07:10

Kerry-Ann doesn't want to risk everything all over again.

0:07:100:07:13

I cannot go through the turmoil of everything that we went through

0:07:130:07:16

building up to it and afterwards when it all fell apart.

0:07:160:07:19

I can't do it.

0:07:190:07:21

And the children agree.

0:07:210:07:23

They're with me on this. Jon's totally outvoted.

0:07:230:07:25

Kerry-Ann's also deeply worried about leaving

0:07:260:07:29

her close group of friends, especially fellow teacher Mrs P.

0:07:290:07:33

Drop of a hat and she's there, isn't she?

0:07:330:07:36

We've been through so much together in the last, what, 12 years

0:07:360:07:38

-that we've worked together.

-Yeah.

0:07:380:07:40

The couple both know, second time around,

0:07:420:07:45

the stakes are higher than ever.

0:07:450:07:47

It's a huge risk because if it all goes wrong again...

0:07:470:07:50

..I'm going to have to deal with another failure

0:07:520:07:54

and I'm not sure how many more failures I've got in me.

0:07:540:07:57

It has to be right for us all, not just him.

0:07:570:07:59

To find out if Jon can persuade Kerry-Ann

0:08:060:08:09

New Zealand should become their home,

0:08:090:08:11

the family are visiting Wellington,

0:08:110:08:13

located on the far southern tip of the country's North Island.

0:08:130:08:17

The Lawrences' base for the week is a three-bedroom cottage

0:08:170:08:20

directly across the road from Worser Bay beach -

0:08:200:08:23

a popular destination for families.

0:08:230:08:25

Arriving in less than favourable weather,

0:08:270:08:29

the family are keen to explore their temporary home.

0:08:290:08:32

Right, let's go and nosey then, shall we?

0:08:320:08:35

-Oh, yes.

-Can this be my bedroom?

0:08:360:08:39

Not a chance.

0:08:390:08:41

We've got a nice place for you under the stairs anyway, Hayden.

0:08:410:08:44

That's lovely, isn't it?

0:08:440:08:46

Neither his air sickness or the pouring rain have dampened

0:08:460:08:49

Jon's enthusiasm.

0:08:490:08:50

Look at that view.

0:08:500:08:52

Good grief, look at that.

0:08:540:08:55

I still think it looks great, even in this sort of weather.

0:08:570:09:00

As they settle in, Jon's happy to be finally spending

0:09:000:09:03

more than just hours in the land of his dreams.

0:09:030:09:06

It's magical to be back in New Zealand.

0:09:080:09:12

I've been thinking about it for five years or so,

0:09:120:09:16

and it's... I'm actually here now.

0:09:160:09:18

Couldn't have hoped for better.

0:09:180:09:20

But he's under no illusions he faces an uphill struggle

0:09:200:09:23

over the coming days.

0:09:230:09:25

I still think it's going to be difficult to convince Kerry-Ann

0:09:260:09:29

to come out. Especially after the flight we've just had.

0:09:290:09:32

It was draining.

0:09:320:09:34

But it's also a reminder of just how far away we are from home.

0:09:340:09:38

And the boys agree their mum will be a tough nut to crack.

0:09:380:09:42

I think it's going to be very, very hard for my dad

0:09:420:09:47

to convince my mum to go.

0:09:470:09:49

I think my dad's got a pretty big job trying to convince my mum.

0:09:490:09:53

Kerry-Ann knows how happy a yes vote would make a husband.

0:09:530:09:56

I think if we all voted yes, I think he might actually do

0:09:560:10:00

a little party dance. I think that would be the reaction

0:10:000:10:03

you'd see at the end of the week if we all decided

0:10:030:10:05

that yes, it was the right option to do it.

0:10:050:10:07

Back in the UK, the Lawrences live in a three-bedroom

0:10:150:10:18

semi-detached house near King's Lynn in Norfolk.

0:10:180:10:21

Full of memories, it's a home Kerry-Ann loves.

0:10:210:10:24

It's the only home we've had.

0:10:250:10:27

It's the one the kids were born in, the one we had dogs in.

0:10:270:10:31

I can't imagine leaving it for anything actually.

0:10:310:10:34

If they did move, the couple would have a budget of around £150,000

0:10:350:10:40

and their wish list is fairly modest.

0:10:400:10:43

Nothing has to be massive or anything, does it?

0:10:430:10:45

A garden would be nice so the kids can go out and play.

0:10:450:10:47

I'm not really worried about a smart house.

0:10:470:10:50

I'm not worried about swimming pools, tennis courts.

0:10:500:10:52

I'm not worried about underground heating.

0:10:520:10:55

I just want it to be a home.

0:10:550:10:57

For Jon, it's more about the quality of life.

0:10:570:11:00

I'm not worried about upgrading.

0:11:000:11:02

I'm more worried about upgrading my life.

0:11:020:11:06

To find out what kind of house the Lawrences could buy

0:11:080:11:11

in New Zealand, today we'll show Jon and Kerry-Ann three properties -

0:11:110:11:15

two on budget and one which could be their dream home.

0:11:150:11:18

Only after they've seen each one will they discover its value.

0:11:200:11:24

For their first viewing, the family head 20 minutes north of Wellington

0:11:290:11:33

to the Stokes Valley area of Lower Hutt.

0:11:330:11:35

It's an area known for its scenery and serenity

0:11:350:11:38

and could be an ideal location for a young family.

0:11:380:11:41

From the outside, first impressions could be better.

0:11:430:11:47

-Shall we have a nosy?

-I'm not overly enamoured with the overhang, but...

0:11:470:11:51

I'm sure it's lovely inside.

0:11:520:11:53

Once up the steep staircase though, Jon's outlook improves.

0:11:530:11:57

It's a proper Kiwi house, isn't it? Nestled in the hillside.

0:11:580:12:02

And living amongst the trees gets the thumbs up.

0:12:020:12:05

-That's nice, isn't it?

-Wow.

0:12:050:12:08

Nice little place to have your breakfast.

0:12:080:12:10

Having all the ferns around and the beautiful greenery around you,

0:12:100:12:13

I love it.

0:12:130:12:14

The bedrooms are the subject of some robust discussion.

0:12:140:12:18

It's bigger than the rooms in our house, isn't it?

0:12:180:12:20

-This is bigger than your room.

-No, it's not bigger than my room.

0:12:200:12:23

It's not bigger than Hayden's, bigger than Austen's though.

0:12:230:12:26

-No, this is bigger than Hayden's.

-No, it's not.

-No, listen, don't forget you've got

0:12:260:12:29

-the sloping ceiling which comes much lower.

-That's got nothing to do with it.

0:12:290:12:33

You're outnumbered! Let's go.

0:12:330:12:35

It's clear that Jon and Kerry-Ann

0:12:350:12:37

aren't singing from the same hymn sheet.

0:12:370:12:39

I could see myself living in somewhere like this.

0:12:390:12:42

It's not really to my taste at all. I don't like it at all.

0:12:420:12:45

But other than that, it's great.

0:12:450:12:47

Oh, dear. Refusing to give up, Jon has plans for the basement.

0:12:470:12:50

I think I see a recording studio here.

0:12:500:12:53

-Oh, dear.

-HAYDEN LAUGHS

0:12:530:12:55

I think I see somewhere to put a car rather than fill it with rubbish.

0:12:550:12:59

Maybe even a pool table.

0:12:590:13:00

I'll get my coat.

0:13:010:13:03

Inside has failed to completely wow Kerry-Ann.

0:13:040:13:07

How will outside fare?

0:13:070:13:09

Garden is a little bit too small for my liking.

0:13:090:13:11

Yeah, it's not big. It's nice.

0:13:110:13:13

It's big enough for what we would want, isn't it?

0:13:130:13:15

Then Jon spots a surprise.

0:13:150:13:17

I wonder if you can get up on that bit up there.

0:13:170:13:19

Yeah, I can't resist it. Let's go up there. Go on.

0:13:190:13:23

Oh, look, there's another path up there as well.

0:13:230:13:26

Go on. So, the garden is actually pretty huge.

0:13:260:13:29

And before you know it, the boys are in their element.

0:13:290:13:32

This is unbelievable.

0:13:320:13:33

And Jon's pleased as punch.

0:13:350:13:37

I could see myself here, that's for sure.

0:13:370:13:39

This property has received a mixed response.

0:13:410:13:44

But could they afford it with their £150,000 budget?

0:13:440:13:47

So how much do you think it is, Austen?

0:13:470:13:49

£170,000.

0:13:490:13:51

-170.

-What do you think, Hayden?

0:13:510:13:54

240.

0:13:540:13:55

I think it's about 160,000.

0:13:550:13:59

I'd say 140.

0:13:590:14:00

Turn it over.

0:14:040:14:06

That just £1,000 over budget.

0:14:070:14:10

So that's roughly the same as ours then.

0:14:100:14:13

I still think, in terms of the setting, it is amazing.

0:14:130:14:17

Well, onwards and upwards.

0:14:190:14:21

Kerry-Ann doesn't seem impressed so far.

0:14:210:14:24

So, will property two turn things in Jon's favour?

0:14:240:14:27

Staying in the Stokes Valley area, just a few minutes away,

0:14:270:14:30

is this three-bedroom 1950s weatherboard home.

0:14:300:14:33

Despite the outside not immediately grabbing Jon...

0:14:340:14:38

Bit more closed in, isn't it?

0:14:380:14:39

..inside, the vibe is more positive.

0:14:390:14:41

-Very spacious.

-Yeah.

-Lots more space.

0:14:440:14:46

-Much lighter as well, isn't it?

-Yeah. Not quite as dark

0:14:460:14:49

-as the other house, is it?

-No.

0:14:490:14:51

-Decent-sized kitchen for us, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-It's nice.

0:14:510:14:53

It's much lighter, isn't it? That's the thing that hits you,

0:14:530:14:56

-isn't it?

-It's more homely.

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

0:14:560:14:58

It's not as large a lounge.

0:14:580:15:00

But it's more homely.

0:15:010:15:02

The light theme continues into the bedrooms.

0:15:020:15:05

It's a lot brighter than the other one.

0:15:050:15:07

Don't know. It just feels airier, even though

0:15:070:15:10

the room's probably not much bigger than the last house.

0:15:100:15:13

It does feel more spacious and more airy.

0:15:130:15:16

And Kerry-Ann could be coming round.

0:15:160:15:18

Yeah, maybe this one's more liveable in for me than the other one.

0:15:180:15:22

It's a relief to hear you say that because...

0:15:220:15:26

Yeah, I could see that the last house wasn't really to your liking.

0:15:260:15:30

Currently used as an office,

0:15:300:15:32

the largest of the three bedrooms is a real crowd pleaser.

0:15:320:15:36

Ooh!

0:15:360:15:37

-This is big, isn't it?

-This is a bit more like it.

0:15:370:15:41

-This is good. It's got a lot of space, hasn't it?

-Yeah.

0:15:410:15:44

It's light again, isn't it?

0:15:440:15:45

All the light coming through that window again.

0:15:450:15:49

Outside, the garden gets a thumbs up from Jon and Kerry-Ann.

0:15:490:15:53

-That's a decent enough size, isn't it?

-Yes.

-Yes.

-A nice-sized garden.

0:15:530:15:57

Doesn't look too difficult to maintain either.

0:15:570:16:00

Even if the boys feel it's missing a certain something.

0:16:000:16:04

The other garden is a bit better than this garden.

0:16:040:16:06

Yeah, it'd be better if we joined them together.

0:16:060:16:09

You mean what you want is a treehouse

0:16:090:16:11

-and a swing in this garden...

-Yeah.

-..and it'd be fine.

-Yeah!

0:16:110:16:14

So far, so good.

0:16:140:16:16

That is until a furry friend from next-door makes itself known.

0:16:160:16:20

DOGS BARK LOUDLY

0:16:200:16:23

-Those dogs are giving it a bit of welly, aren't they?

-Plenty of room.

0:16:230:16:26

Excellent.

0:16:260:16:28

I'm not sure I could cope with that dog barking all day though.

0:16:280:16:31

DOG BARKS

0:16:310:16:34

Not the best way to end a viewing, but barking dogs aside, the house

0:16:340:16:37

has gone down well, so could they afford it with their £150,000 budget?

0:16:370:16:43

If we were to move over, this would be a nice house to live in,

0:16:430:16:47

wouldn't it? It's probably out of our price range.

0:16:470:16:50

I feel a little bit hemmed in by the close proximity of the other houses.

0:16:500:16:54

But it is a lovely house.

0:16:540:16:57

I reckon it's going to be a lot more than the last one.

0:16:570:17:00

And the last one was 151, wasn't it?

0:17:000:17:02

I think it's going to be nearer 200,000.

0:17:020:17:05

Go on then, Hayden.

0:17:080:17:10

Um...

0:17:100:17:12

That's £7,000 over budget.

0:17:140:17:17

-I am surprised.

-Doable.

0:17:180:17:19

I really did think it would be a lot more.

0:17:190:17:23

-I'm more sold on this house than on the last one.

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

0:17:230:17:26

-For this house, I would actually consider being able to move here and live here.

-Yeah.

0:17:260:17:30

-So you can see yourself moving over here with this?

-No, I can see me living in this house.

-All right.

0:17:300:17:35

OK. It's a start!

0:17:350:17:37

Jon could be edging closer to persuading Kerry-Ann.

0:17:370:17:42

Will property three seal the deal?

0:17:420:17:45

Just a few doors down on the same road is this four-bedroom home,

0:17:450:17:49

tucked away in a private setting in the bush.

0:17:490:17:53

-Look at that!

-We're out in the sticks here, aren't we?

0:17:530:17:56

-Jon's a fan of seclusion.

-You like the fact it's hidden, don't you?

0:17:560:18:00

I do, I like it. It's... It's out of the way.

0:18:000:18:04

And already, he can imagine it as a home.

0:18:040:18:06

-It's just so peaceful.

-Yeah, it is.

0:18:060:18:09

-I could see myself here.

-Could you?

0:18:120:18:14

Guitar on the porch.

0:18:140:18:16

-LAUGHTER

-Hillbilly.

0:18:160:18:18

Inside pleases the whole family.

0:18:180:18:20

-Oh, wow!

-Mm.

-Wow!

-It's a nice living space, isn't it?

0:18:220:18:26

Especially Jon.

0:18:260:18:27

It's lovely, isn't it? It's quite bright, isn't it?

0:18:270:18:31

Yeah, nice size as well.

0:18:310:18:32

Yeah, I like it.

0:18:340:18:36

The family bathroom wins praise.

0:18:360:18:39

-Oh, it's a bigger bathroom!

-It is bigger, isn't it?

0:18:390:18:42

-Yeah.

-It's a reasonable size.

0:18:420:18:44

Until they realise the bath might be

0:18:440:18:46

more suited to other worldly creatures.

0:18:460:18:49

I've got a feeling that New Zealand baths are smaller than ours.

0:18:490:18:53

-Or that New Zealand people are smaller than us.

-They do have Hobbits.

0:18:530:18:57

Stepping outside, everyone's breath is taken away.

0:18:570:19:00

-Look at that! Look at that!

-Wow!

0:19:000:19:03

-Lovely, isn't it?

-Isn't that beautiful?

0:19:030:19:06

It's amazing, isn't it?

0:19:060:19:08

Look at these lovely trees.

0:19:080:19:10

What a stunning setting.

0:19:100:19:12

And Kerry-Ann can envisage the alterations she would make.

0:19:120:19:15

Yeah, it would be nice

0:19:150:19:16

if you had this bit of grass and cleared the path over there.

0:19:160:19:19

-Are you making plans?

-No.

0:19:190:19:21

Nice try, Jon!

0:19:210:19:23

So will this house fall within their £150,000 budget?

0:19:230:19:27

Right.

0:19:270:19:28

Oh, I think this house is going to be massively out of our price range.

0:19:280:19:32

-I don't think we're going to be able to afford it.

-Maybe 220?

0:19:320:19:35

220,000?

0:19:350:19:37

-I don't know. 240.

-Right. Shall we see?

-Yup.

-Yup.

0:19:370:19:41

-Oh, my word!

-Ah!

0:19:490:19:50

That's £26,000 over budget, but...

0:19:500:19:54

-That's surprising.

-A lot cheaper than we thought

0:19:540:19:56

-it would be, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-That is brilliant, actually.

0:19:560:19:59

That's not so much out of our range at all, is it?

0:19:590:20:03

That makes me feel really confident about a move.

0:20:030:20:06

Depending on what job opportunities there would be out here.

0:20:060:20:09

-And the price of our house.

-Yeah, and what house prices are...

0:20:090:20:15

Well, we'd get... That might be possible.

0:20:150:20:18

It's been a mixed day on the property hunt front.

0:20:210:20:24

Property one didn't have the best kerb appeal,

0:20:240:20:26

but impressed with its secret garden.

0:20:260:20:29

Property two's light interiors hit the spot, but the barking dog didn't.

0:20:300:20:35

And hideaway property three got top marks for peace and quiet

0:20:370:20:41

and its wow-factor garden.

0:20:410:20:43

So when it comes to the vote,

0:20:430:20:45

will the family choose properties at home or away?

0:20:450:20:49

Based on the properties we've seen today, our vote goes to...

0:20:490:20:53

-UK.

-New Zealand.

-Can't decide.

0:20:580:21:01

I think it's a bit of no-brainer, personally.

0:21:040:21:06

Nothing grabbed me worth moving and leaving what we've got for.

0:21:060:21:10

Travel halfway round the world for something I don't really feel comfortable in.

0:21:100:21:14

So it looks at the moment it's 2½ to 1½!

0:21:140:21:18

So New Zealand's winning at the moment.

0:21:180:21:21

LAUGHTER

0:21:220:21:25

Jon knows he needs to start winning Kerry-Ann around.

0:21:290:21:32

Finding good jobs with decent wages in New Zealand could do the trick.

0:21:320:21:36

Back in the UK, Jon runs his own business,

0:21:400:21:43

offering specialist music classes to students of all ages.

0:21:430:21:47

I love my job at the moment.

0:21:470:21:49

As long as I do something creative every day, then I'm happy,

0:21:490:21:52

but I never quite know what I'm doing day-to-day,

0:21:520:21:55

which is one of the great things about my job.

0:21:550:21:58

In New Zealand, he expects he'll have to return

0:21:580:22:00

to his former job of working as a college lecturer.

0:22:000:22:03

It'll have to be in further education again,

0:22:030:22:06

or the tertiary section, as it's known over there.

0:22:060:22:08

Because I have to work for a while and get my citizenship

0:22:080:22:12

before I can then start a business, which is what I'm doing now.

0:22:120:22:16

-Why are you moving country?

-Why am I moving country?

0:22:160:22:19

Well, I might be, I might not be.

0:22:190:22:21

I don't know.

0:22:210:22:23

-Do you think I should move?

-No.

0:22:230:22:25

No, OK.

0:22:250:22:27

I think I know someone else who's got that kind of view as well.

0:22:270:22:31

Kerry-Ann's a primary school teacher, which brings mixed fortunes.

0:22:310:22:35

I love my job.

0:22:350:22:36

I don't like all the pressures and massive amounts of paperwork,

0:22:360:22:40

but I do actually enjoy the time in the classroom with the children.

0:22:400:22:43

She's hoping the teaching profession in New Zealand is less pressured.

0:22:430:22:47

I'm hoping to find a job that will give me some sanity, yes!

0:22:470:22:51

And a lot less stress!

0:22:510:22:53

It's an important day for both Jon and Kerry-Ann, as they set off

0:22:560:22:59

to discover what work opportunities there might be in New Zealand.

0:22:590:23:04

Jon heads to the New Zealand School of Music

0:23:040:23:07

at the Victoria University of Wellington.

0:23:070:23:10

After a sleepless night, he knows today has to come up trumps

0:23:100:23:14

if he is to bring Kerry-Ann around to his way of thinking.

0:23:140:23:18

I've been up throughout the night,

0:23:180:23:20

thinking about what might happen, what might transpire.

0:23:200:23:23

If Kerry-Ann doesn't vote for New Zealand, I think

0:23:230:23:26

that'll be the end of it and that'll be a real kick in the teeth.

0:23:260:23:30

Kerry-Ann's visiting Silverstream Primary School,

0:23:300:23:33

just down the road from the houses the family viewed.

0:23:330:23:36

I think Jon's hoping that today will change my mind,

0:23:360:23:39

regarding jobs in New Zealand

0:23:390:23:41

and hopefully change my mind overall,

0:23:410:23:43

but there's no point uprooting everything in the UK

0:23:430:23:46

to come over to New Zealand and not be able to manage.

0:23:460:23:49

Jon meets musical director Euan Murdock,

0:23:490:23:51

who gives him a tour of the university's performance spaces,

0:23:510:23:54

recording studios and collection of instruments from around the world.

0:23:540:23:59

Just being here now, I can... My knees are going a bit.

0:24:000:24:03

And Jon can't resist having a go.

0:24:040:24:07

-See if you can do a scale, so you go one ahead of the other.

-OK.

0:24:070:24:11

HE PLAYS

0:24:110:24:14

You're an absolute natural, Jon!

0:24:180:24:20

Jon's eager to know what music teaching opportunities

0:24:200:24:24

might exist for someone with his level of experience.

0:24:240:24:27

You would struggle to find a job at a university level.

0:24:270:24:31

However, the community college experience you have,

0:24:310:24:34

in my opinion, directly relates to institutes, polytechnics

0:24:340:24:39

and institutes of technology.

0:24:390:24:41

-Yes.

-Of which, there are a number through New Zealand.

0:24:410:24:44

What do you think my salary expectations might be?

0:24:460:24:49

My sense is that, given your leadership already

0:24:490:24:52

in that area of work back in the UK,

0:24:520:24:54

that you would be in the senior band, which would put you

0:24:540:24:58

somewhere between 70,000 and 90,000 New Zealand dollars.

0:24:580:25:01

That's about £35,000,

0:25:010:25:04

over double what he currently brings home

0:25:040:25:06

on a self-employed basis in the UK.

0:25:060:25:09

But what about the all-important work/life balance?

0:25:090:25:13

New Zealand is a fabulous place to bring up a young family.

0:25:130:25:16

You have to work hard, there's no question about that,

0:25:160:25:19

but there's also an expectation that families are very important

0:25:190:25:22

and certainly within this school,

0:25:220:25:24

I'd like to think that families come first.

0:25:240:25:27

It's exactly the kind of news Jon had been hoping to hear.

0:25:270:25:31

And he's anxiously hoping Kerry-Ann's day is as encouraging.

0:25:310:25:35

I don't really know how Kerry-Ann's going to get on.

0:25:370:25:41

I'm hoping she'll be open-minded and positive, so fingers crossed.

0:25:410:25:44

School principal Mary shows Kerry-Ann around

0:25:460:25:49

and introduces her to ex-pat deputy principal Zach Mills.

0:25:490:25:54

She wastes no time in grilling him

0:25:540:25:56

on how he's found teaching in New Zealand.

0:25:560:25:59

-And the work/life balance is better?

-Yes.

0:25:590:26:02

Certainly the schools that I've worked in,

0:26:020:26:04

they really want their teachers to have that work/life balance,

0:26:040:26:08

to go out and play their sport or do the things they really love

0:26:080:26:11

because they find they bring that passion and energy back into the school.

0:26:110:26:14

Next, she wants to know if there are jobs with her name on them in New Zealand.

0:26:140:26:19

Absolutely cos I see that you've been teaching for 16 years,

0:26:190:26:22

-is that right?

-Yes. Too long!

-Round about that.

0:26:220:26:25

-Yes.

-And of course, you've got some real strengths in PE and in Music.

0:26:250:26:30

And of course, when we're looking to employ new teachers,

0:26:300:26:33

we're looking at what else they can bring to the school,

0:26:330:26:37

not just the reading, writing and maths.

0:26:370:26:39

It's all sounding very promising,

0:26:390:26:42

but then Kerry-Ann asks about the hard cash.

0:26:420:26:45

How much would she earn?

0:26:450:26:46

Roughly, you would be starting on round about 50.

0:26:470:26:50

-OK.

-OK.

0:26:530:26:55

So... But then, you'd work up through the steps.

0:26:550:26:59

That's around £22,000.

0:26:590:27:01

Significantly lower than the £30,000 she currently earns at home.

0:27:010:27:06

OK. That's quite a bit lower than what I am on at the moment.

0:27:060:27:09

Absolutely. Yes, yes.

0:27:090:27:11

So, based on everything they've discovered today,

0:27:110:27:15

when it comes to work, will the couple choose home or away?

0:27:150:27:19

-New Zealand.

-Undecided.

0:27:220:27:24

-Well, that could have been worse!

-SHE LAUGHS

0:27:260:27:30

It's just that massive pay cut that worries me about the work.

0:27:300:27:34

It's not all about the money, is it?

0:27:340:27:36

It is also about the quality of life when you're at work.

0:27:360:27:39

And if I would be earning a bit more, then it might...

0:27:390:27:42

-Maybe that might balance things out a little bit.

-Yeah.

0:27:420:27:44

I did think that if you voted no, that it would be the end of it,

0:27:440:27:47

-the whole thing, to be honest.

-Mm.

0:27:470:27:51

So, the fact that you were edging towards maybe a yes...

0:27:510:27:55

..is positive.

0:27:560:27:58

Gives me a little bit of hope.

0:27:580:28:00

With Kerry-Ann yet to cast a vote in favour of New Zealand,

0:28:050:28:08

it looks like Jon's facing an uphill struggle

0:28:080:28:11

if he's to stand any chance of realising his dream.

0:28:110:28:15

With the sun shining,

0:28:150:28:17

the family head out to explore the lifestyle Wellington could offer them

0:28:170:28:21

and for Jon, it could be the ideal opportunity to get Kerry-Ann onside.

0:28:210:28:26

At home, much of family life revolves around football,

0:28:280:28:31

so the family start their day with a training session with the Juniors.

0:28:310:28:36

I like your top. Fantastic.

0:28:370:28:40

And while mum and dad meet some of the parents on the sidelines...

0:28:400:28:44

-This seems like a lovely area to live.

-Oh, it is.

0:28:440:28:47

..Austen and Hayden are immediately at home,

0:28:470:28:50

kicking about with their new Kiwi friends.

0:28:500:28:52

We came out ten years ago and...

0:28:560:28:58

I mean, I didn't have my children when we came,

0:28:580:29:01

so it was a little bit lonely for me,

0:29:010:29:04

but you meet so many families through the kids and the clubs

0:29:040:29:07

and activities and we just spend our life outdoors, on the beach.

0:29:070:29:12

It's the kind of experience Jon had been hoping for.

0:29:120:29:15

Today has been fantastic.

0:29:150:29:17

We've had a chance to see what our lives could be like if we were here.

0:29:170:29:22

And everywhere that you go, people are friendly.

0:29:240:29:28

-Kerry-Ann's happy too.

-Seeing the kids totally fit in,

0:29:280:29:31

being greeted by the parents that were there,

0:29:310:29:34

being spoken to quite happily, you know, it was really nice

0:29:340:29:37

and they just kind of welcome you with open arms.

0:29:370:29:40

-See you.

-Thank you.

-Bye-bye.

0:29:450:29:47

Next, the Lawrences head in to Wellington

0:29:470:29:50

for a spot of lunch beside the harbour,

0:29:500:29:52

giving the family time to catch up on how the week's going.

0:29:520:29:55

-What about this morning? Do you think the training was better?

-Yeah.

0:29:550:29:58

-No. I don't think it was better.

-It was equal.

0:29:580:30:01

It was equal. It was a lot more friendly though.

0:30:010:30:04

For Kerry-Ann, the week's improved as it's gone on.

0:30:040:30:07

Gradually, the week has got better for me,

0:30:070:30:10

whereas I think Jon started off on a high and will continue on a high.

0:30:100:30:14

But Jon accepts she's not entirely sold.

0:30:140:30:16

This week's been a bit of a mixed bag for Kerry-Ann.

0:30:160:30:20

I think she's seen that the lifestyle that she could have,

0:30:200:30:25

or we could all have here, it would be superb.

0:30:250:30:28

But I... I'm not sure...

0:30:280:30:30

I'm not totally sure she can look past

0:30:300:30:33

that huge pay cut she'd have to take.

0:30:330:30:35

I'm not sure at the moment which way I'm going to go.

0:30:350:30:38

It's borderline, which is a positive,

0:30:380:30:40

I suppose, on the first day, isn't it?

0:30:400:30:42

But yeah, still not sure if I'm swayed enough or not.

0:30:420:30:47

And the boys also know Mum's yet to be convinced.

0:30:470:30:51

I don't think Dad's quite done it.

0:30:510:30:52

Not quite convinced her to come, no.

0:30:520:30:54

Keeping his thoughts to himself, even Jon's beginning to realise

0:30:560:31:00

just how much he'd be leaving behind in the UK.

0:31:000:31:03

I know that I have wonderful friends at the moment

0:31:040:31:08

who have supported me through some really horrible, horrible times

0:31:080:31:14

and I have such a heightened appreciation

0:31:140:31:18

of what friendship really means now.

0:31:180:31:20

Could it be just a blip for Jon, or a complete change of heart?

0:31:210:31:25

Despite his disclosure, it has been a fun day out for all the family,

0:31:250:31:30

so when it comes to lifestyle, how will they vote?

0:31:300:31:33

Based on the experience we've had today, our votes are...

0:31:330:31:36

-New Zealand.

-New Zealand.

-New Zealand.

0:31:450:31:47

It's clean sweep.

0:31:470:31:49

-Everybody got New Zealand.

-Ho-ho-ho!

0:31:490:31:51

-Are you slightly happy there, honey?

-Back of the net!

0:31:530:31:55

SHE LAUGHS

0:31:550:31:57

Right...

0:32:020:32:04

Kerry-Ann's first vote for New Zealand

0:32:040:32:06

could mean Jon's dream isn't over yet.

0:32:060:32:09

But if it's to become a reality, the finances will need to stack up.

0:32:090:32:13

The couple feel their house in the UK is worth £160,000.

0:32:130:32:18

We sent round two estate agents to give their valuations.

0:32:180:32:22

This is actually a property I put on the market a couple of years ago.

0:32:230:32:27

Oh, good size room. Nice fireplace. Great views.

0:32:270:32:31

And a broken picture frame!

0:32:310:32:33

D'uh!

0:32:330:32:34

Since I was here last time, the kitchen's been replaced,

0:32:340:32:37

which is great, to a modern, high-gloss unit,

0:32:370:32:40

so it looks really, really modern.

0:32:400:32:42

Main bedroom. And again, dual aspect, which is really good.

0:32:420:32:45

Makes the room really nice and light.

0:32:450:32:48

I'd probably remove this, as it impedes a bit in the room.

0:32:480:32:51

-We could remove that, but then we would have no clothes.

-That's true!

0:32:510:32:55

-That's my room!

-Hayden!

-Ah, so this is bedroom two.

0:32:550:32:58

It's obviously got a lot of things in here, including a bunk bed,

0:32:580:33:01

wardrobe and wildlife.

0:33:010:33:03

Um... You could alter this round and easily accommodate a double bed

0:33:030:33:06

-in here, so it's a nice-sized bedroom.

-Whereas Austen's bedroom...

0:33:060:33:10

It's quite compact, but it's got everything you need in it.

0:33:100:33:13

Bed, wardrobe, drawers, games box... But it's got beautiful views.

0:33:130:33:17

Bit of lawn over to the side.

0:33:170:33:19

But of course, the main thing is the open view at the rear,

0:33:190:33:22

which is what so many people want,

0:33:220:33:24

when they live in the country. Great.

0:33:240:33:26

I would suggest marketing the property at £159,950,

0:33:260:33:29

but for a quick sale, I would suggest marketing at 155.

0:33:290:33:32

In the current market conditions, we'd probably recommend

0:33:320:33:35

a marketing price of £159,950, but to go no lower than 155.

0:33:350:33:41

-Price has gone up slightly.

-Yes.

-By about 10 grand.

-Yes.

-That's good.

0:33:410:33:45

-Amazing what a lick of paint will do.

-It is.

0:33:450:33:47

The valuations go down well,

0:33:470:33:49

and next, the couple sit down to compare

0:33:490:33:52

the cost of living in New Zealand with the UK.

0:33:520:33:55

Starting with the weekly food shop.

0:33:550:33:57

Let's see how skint we are.

0:33:570:33:59

We drink milk by the bucket load and that's more expensive already.

0:33:590:34:03

Almost double the price, look.

0:34:030:34:05

We get through loads of ham, don't we?

0:34:050:34:08

Well, we won't if we're here, will we?

0:34:080:34:11

I've got it at £117.96. An extra £27 a week.

0:34:110:34:16

With groceries coming in at around £100 a month more in New Zealand,

0:34:160:34:21

Jon puts on a brave face.

0:34:210:34:23

That's not great news, but... It's not dreadful, is it?

0:34:250:34:29

Next, the couple move on to examine their bigger outgoings,

0:34:290:34:32

basing their figures on the dream home we showed them.

0:34:320:34:35

The mortgage is massively different, isn't it?

0:34:350:34:38

It's an extra 300 quid gone already.

0:34:380:34:41

Mm.

0:34:410:34:42

Look at petrol, look how much cheaper that is.

0:34:420:34:46

That's... That's good.

0:34:460:34:48

£462.49...

0:34:510:34:55

worse off a month.

0:34:550:34:57

In total, the couple work out,

0:34:570:34:59

they'd be spending nearly £500 a month more in New Zealand.

0:34:590:35:03

Jon's speechless, but once they take into account how much

0:35:030:35:07

they might earn in New Zealand, the figures begin to look better.

0:35:070:35:11

Yes, I can feel the smug smirk coming right now.

0:35:110:35:15

£629.51 a month better off.

0:35:150:35:19

-So...

-SHE LAUGHS

0:35:230:35:26

Shall we get the tickets booked?

0:35:260:35:28

Their sums show they'd be better off to the tune of £7,500 every year.

0:35:280:35:33

It's made my decision a lot harder.

0:35:330:35:36

You can't argue with that, can you?

0:35:360:35:38

I can just feel the smug coming this way!

0:35:400:35:43

So will it be another clean sweep,

0:35:460:35:48

as the couple choose between finances in the UK and New Zealand?

0:35:480:35:52

Based on the figures we've seen today in the reality check,

0:35:520:35:56

our vote goes to...

0:35:560:35:58

-New Zealand.

-New Zealand.

0:36:040:36:06

You can't argue with the figures, can you?

0:36:090:36:12

When you think about it, you know...

0:36:120:36:14

600-odd pounds a month better off is a no-brainer.

0:36:140:36:17

-I was tempted to do a little lap of honour around the garden.

-Please don't.

0:36:190:36:22

KERRYANN LAUGHS

0:36:220:36:23

Such a significant boost to their finances has been impossible

0:36:290:36:32

to argue with, helping Jon's dream gain yet more momentum.

0:36:320:36:36

But the week's far from over,

0:36:360:36:38

and the family now face what could be the biggest hurdle to a move.

0:36:380:36:43

Having discussed it with the children first, they sit down to watch

0:36:430:36:46

messages from friends and family back home together.

0:36:460:36:49

FROM TV: Hi!

0:36:500:36:51

-Hi!

-Hi!

0:36:510:36:52

Hi, guys.

0:36:520:36:53

Hi there, all of you.

0:36:530:36:54

Hi, Jon. Hi, Kez.

0:36:540:36:56

I love her to bits, yeah.

0:36:560:36:57

She's one of my best friends and yeah, she's very loyal.

0:36:570:37:01

Yeah, she's a great friend.

0:37:010:37:02

She's a lovely lass.

0:37:020:37:05

Mad, but lovely.

0:37:050:37:06

Jon is really fun to be with, really outgoing.

0:37:080:37:13

Hayden's the more grown-up one.

0:37:130:37:15

He looks very much like Jon

0:37:160:37:18

and acts very much like Jon

0:37:180:37:20

when Jon was younger, whereas Austen acts like Jon is now,

0:37:200:37:24

-a bit crazy and a bit...

-THEY LAUGH

0:37:240:37:27

-Lively, entertaining...

-Very accident prone.

0:37:270:37:30

-Very accident prone, yes.

-Yes,

0:37:300:37:32

but good kids, really good kids.

0:37:320:37:34

-I must admit, I really didn't want them to go, did I?

-No.

0:37:340:37:38

Nikki was in a state of depression for weeks on end,

0:37:380:37:42

used to be waking up in the night cos she didn't want them to go,

0:37:420:37:45

and I had to be consoling her.

0:37:450:37:47

We would never be able to take Mum to see him over there.

0:37:470:37:50

That would be an impossibility.

0:37:500:37:51

It's just the distance between us, I wouldn't be able to do that.

0:37:510:37:56

The one thing you want to do is watch your grandchildren grow up,

0:37:560:37:59

which we're not going to be able to do.

0:37:590:38:01

It's going to be a big loss to us all.

0:38:010:38:04

It's the birthdays and the Christmas and the Easter and the...

0:38:040:38:08

you know, when we're all supposed to be sat around a table, aren't we?

0:38:080:38:12

That'll be the hardest time.

0:38:130:38:15

Make the right decision based on what you want,

0:38:160:38:19

not what any other people want.

0:38:190:38:21

We think it's a great idea for you and a great opportunity,

0:38:210:38:25

so make the right decision.

0:38:250:38:27

We really don't want you to go, but if you have to,

0:38:270:38:33

if you want to follow your dream, you've got to do it.

0:38:330:38:36

If you decide that New Zealand is the place for all of you,

0:38:360:38:39

then you go with my best wishes.

0:38:390:38:42

I'd be losing part of me.

0:38:420:38:44

Because of...

0:38:460:38:47

I won't change anything.

0:38:530:38:55

Because I think, if they want to go, it's right.

0:38:550:38:58

Take care.

0:38:580:39:00

I don't know what to feel.

0:39:080:39:10

I know how I feel.

0:39:100:39:12

But I've got two...

0:39:130:39:15

two people in tears here...

0:39:150:39:17

..who, um...

0:39:180:39:20

..who probably mean more than the dream.

0:39:250:39:27

Just as the balance seemed to be tipping in favour of New Zealand,

0:39:300:39:34

messages from home have been a tough reminder

0:39:340:39:37

of how hard it would be to leave friends and family behind.

0:39:370:39:41

With their week in Wellington drawing to a close,

0:39:410:39:44

both Jon and Kerry-Ann are struggling with conflicting emotions.

0:39:440:39:48

So, where will the Lawrences decide their future lies?

0:39:480:39:52

When the Lawrences arrived in Wellington seven days ago,

0:39:550:39:58

Jon was desperate to see if New Zealand could deliver second time round.

0:39:580:40:02

The whole week's been fantastic.

0:40:020:40:04

We've had lots of good things like... I still think we'd have

0:40:040:40:08

a good house over here and good financial prospects.

0:40:080:40:12

But has New Zealand shown Kerry-Ann enough to sway her?

0:40:120:40:16

I'm still kind of torn between the fact of, yes, it could work,

0:40:160:40:19

then it could be fantastic and it could be for the best,

0:40:190:40:22

but if it doesn't, you know,

0:40:220:40:23

what are we losing out on that we're leaving behind in the UK?

0:40:230:40:26

I'm still torn between the two things.

0:40:260:40:28

Seeing messages from home brought focus to the thorny issue

0:40:280:40:31

of leaving loved ones behind.

0:40:310:40:33

Just watching your dad get upset's not really that easy, is it?

0:40:330:40:37

And friends as well that, you know, we really do heavily rely on,

0:40:380:40:41

and they're always there for us, so to find that

0:40:410:40:44

and get that again somewhere else is going to be tricky.

0:40:440:40:47

Well, I know it took a lot out of her.

0:40:470:40:49

And Austen was clearly upset.

0:40:490:40:52

She only usually cries when she really doesn't want to do it

0:40:520:40:56

or she's really sad, and...

0:40:560:40:59

She cried then, so...

0:41:000:41:02

Jon faces the ultimate dilemma -

0:41:020:41:05

having to choose between his dream and family.

0:41:050:41:08

I wish I could explain what's going through my head at the moment.

0:41:090:41:12

I'm massively confused.

0:41:150:41:17

I've been thinking about New Zealand for five years or so,

0:41:180:41:22

and I'm here now.

0:41:220:41:24

And yet I feel further away from it than I ever have.

0:41:240:41:27

But on the other hand I feel closer to my family than I've ever felt before.

0:41:270:41:32

So, where will the family finally decide their future lies?

0:41:320:41:35

My decision has been made for the last five years,

0:41:370:41:41

and now I have to kind of formalise it by turning the card,

0:41:410:41:45

all of a sudden it's not so straightforward.

0:41:450:41:49

We've had a great week.

0:41:510:41:52

Based on the experiences we've had this week, our vote goes to...

0:41:520:41:56

-UK.

-Undecided.

-Undecided.

-UK.

0:42:070:42:09

Why is yours undecided?

0:42:120:42:14

-Because it has to be right for all of us, not just for me.

-Yeah.

0:42:140:42:19

Seeing Austen so upset brought it home that it might be my dream,

0:42:190:42:26

but it can't be...

0:42:260:42:27

It has to be all of us.

0:42:270:42:30

So...but having said that, I've got a dream family.

0:42:300:42:34

Why did you change your mind?

0:42:340:42:37

-The video changed my mind.

-Why?

0:42:370:42:39

-I just didn't want to leave everyone.

-OK.

0:42:390:42:42

What about you, Austen?

0:42:420:42:43

I just really didn't want to leave my friends and family.

0:42:430:42:47

It's time to move on and it's time to think of someone other than myself.

0:42:470:42:51

In the end, his week in New Zealand's shown Jon

0:43:000:43:03

the dream life he's been chasing may actually lie closer to home.

0:43:030:43:08

It's been a long journey for the Lawrence family,

0:43:080:43:11

but wherever they go on to spend their future,

0:43:110:43:14

we hope it's a very happy one.
